Personal Description:
I hold a Spanish teaching certificate from the Instituto Cervantes (the Internationally-recognised Spanish culture and language institute) and a first-class degree (BA) in Spanish. In addition, I recently qualified to teach in Adult Education by gaining the PTLLS qualification (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning sector), and am also trained in participatory teaching method (popular education theories) which influence my teaching style.

I previously lived and worked in Mexico and Peru and have used Spanish in a professional context as a freelance interpreter and for other commercial companies. In addition I am CRB/DRB-checked.

I am very keen to share my enthusiasm for the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures with willing students and will tailor lessons to suit your personal requirements and interests, whether Spanish for academic exams, work or travel. A consultation class can be booked to gauge your level.

Teaching Experience:

I have more than 2 years' experience in providing private, easily digestible, flexible Spanish tuition to adults, GSCE students and those learning for professional reasons. I currently deliver a Spanish course for adults in Chorlton and will soon be rolling this out into other areas of South Manchester. In addition, I have also taught adults courses on other subjects such as job hunting skills, CV writing and self-esteem/ confidence.

Tutoring Approach:

In my experience, pupils engage best with a foreign language when it is used in context since this brings the words and grammar to life and gives it a purpose. I understand how intimidating foreign language learning can be and make sure I simplify grammar and explanations as much as possible to make new information digestible. I focus on encouraging confidence in spoken Spanish, which makes the class more fun, but will happily tailor the classes to suit the individuals' needs and interests.

Please note that my tuition charges are flexible depending on your financial situation.

Teaching Experience:

October 2009-2013
Private Tutor/Business Owner - From taking on my first pupil to building a successful tutoring service, I have privately tutored around 30+ pupils and have also mentored two tutors over the course of four years. Teaching pupils ranging from Key Stage 1 through to GCSE level, provided me with first-hand experience of the responsibilities of working with children and young adults and has allowed me to encourage pupils to learn in a style individual to them.

January 2012 - December 2012
Drama Teacher - Providing educational and inspiring Drama and Musical Theatre lessons to local school pupils aged 2-19. I provided classes teaching and developing drama skills and techniques and helped many students prepare for auditions. I was also a part of the creative process for school productions. My aim for every lesson was to inspire my pupils during their performing arts journey. I also used drama skills and techniques in a therapeutic manner with the intention of helping my pupils deal with issues such as bullying and a lack of confidence.

April 2008 - October 2008
Diploma in Child Psychology - I studied this particular subject due to my interest in how children's behaviour, reactions, thoughts and emotions develop through the early years of life. I enjoyed this topic and have learnt how important a child's early years are. Not only am I able to understand the environmental and emotional needs and wants of a child, but I also understand the support, patience, respect and care that has to be given to the child and their parents throughout their development.

November 2005 - May 2007
A PAUSE - In my first year of college I trained to become an A PAUSE mentor. Once I had successfully completed my training I travelled to local schools and presented the A PAUSE programme to young adults aged 13-16. In my second year of college I continued presenting the programme and also went on to train other college students aged 16-17 to do the same. Presenting the A PAUSE programme took me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to respond quickly and prompt thought throughout the classroom.

September 2004 - 2007
Volunteer at a Local Church - I volunteered at a local church youth group which involved being a general helper, organising games and entertainment and also supporting and tutoring the youth with their school work. I have helped out at many of the church performances and have also helped to run the Sunday morning creche. This role provided me with the experience of working with children and young adults. I also took part in the 'Safe to grow' programme - designed to maintain the security of children, young adults and their youth leaders within the youth group and creche.

Tutoring Approach:

I strongly believe that all children and young adults should be taught in a style that is individual to them. With this in mind I make sure I establish my pupil's learning style before beginning our lessons. All lessons are then adapted to my pupils chosen subject and their specific way of learning. I make sure that the relevant information is learnt at the correct level, often in accordance with the UK National Curriculum, but do so in a way that is interesting and fun. Above all I make sure that I spend time listening to my pupil in order to address any subject difficulties, and continue to address such concerns until my pupil feels they understand them better. In cases where children over-achieve the work I have set them, I would then make it my aim to push them to complete and understand work of a higher level.

Personal Description:
I am Maths Teacher with over 14 years of experience currently teaching all secondary school ages including GCSE and A-level at a leading independent school in Croydon. I have also tutored for many years, I very much enjoy helping students learn and see the rapid increase in progress and confidence that can be achieved from one-to-one tuition.
My experience includes many years of tuition and preparation for SATs, GCSE and A-Level maths as well as helping with general maths tuition for younger secondary school pupils. I can also help with preparation for the maths part of the 11+ test - entrance exams for grammar or private schools for year 6 pupils. I have also had experience of tutoring IB Studies level maths. I provide tuition in the pupil's own house and am generally available late afternoon or evenings in the Sanderstead , Selsdon, Warlingham, Caterham,Purley, South Croydon and surrounding areas.

Teaching Experience:

I have successfully tutored many pupils for Maths GCSE and A-level (Both pure and applied modules) as well as younger secondary aged pupils. I can provide help with exam preparations or more general support with secondary school maths.I have also helped prepare pupils for the maths part of 11+ exams. /entrance test for grammar or private schools. I am currently teaching full time in a private school and have over 14 years of teaching and private tuition experience. I have an excellent track record of results including one of my Year 11 classes achieving a 90% A* rate at GCSE.

Tutoring Approach:

I can tutor in the pupil's house (depending on the location) at a mutually convenient time, ideally during weekdays after school or evening though I can sometimes do Saturday mornings. I am very punctual and reliable. I can provide materials such as past exam papers or text books if required. I have successfully tutored many pupils to achieve success in both GCSE and A-levels. I can also help with the maths part of common entrance exams and supply materials. My approach is to get the student to think things out for themselves and enable them to gain confidence as they realise that they can answer questions successfully . I encourage students to tell me if, after an explanation, they still are not sure, so that I can try to explain it in a different way.
Feedback / references from recent tutees :
"Thank you for supporting Alex over the last few months with his maths. He felt very confident with his recent statistics paper, which is encouraging. His confidence in maths has definitely grown over the last few months and he is busy revising for C3 and C4 with a positive approach."
Reference from previous A-level + GCSE tutee :"Andrew has been tutoring my son, Michael, for approximately 2 years . Andrew's input has been very helpful to Michael. Andrew is always pleasant and punctual.I would recommend Andrew as a maths tutor "
Michael went on to achieve an A at GCSE and I continued tutoring him for A-level.

Personal Description:
My name is Andrea. I was born in Hungary, but I live in the UK in Eastbourne. I`m a dedicated TESOL/TEFL teacher with very good results. I have been working in different language schools in the UK as an EFL teacher and Director of Studies and at the University of Southampton, teaching international students. Besides teaching English as a second/foreign language I've always wanted to improve my knowledge and get to know more about how language learning can become even more effective. That`s why I've done lots of research and have a number of publications as well.

Teaching Experience:

I've been teaching English as a second or foreign language for more than 20 years. I`ve also been working as a TESOL/TEFL teacher trainer.
Every summer I teach English for Academic Purposes for international students at the University of Southampton.
I've been teaching different age groups from little kids to pensioners.

Tutoring Approach:

Communicative language teaching with all the 4 skills development and grammar.

Personal Description:
I'm a Research Fellow at Cranfield University. I found Chemistry very difficult at High School and have worked hard over the last 8 years studying the science, in the process of gaining my Honours degree and Doctorate, to improve my understanding but I honestly still find it difficult at times. I have a huge amount of enthusiasm for my science and find myself reading Physics, Chemistry and Astronomy in my spare time as well as watching countless lectures and home made videos from other scientists on YouTube.

Teaching Experience:

I have a moderate amount of tutoring experience but I'm confident that this is compensated by my energy and knowledge of my field, I love what I do and revel in helping people understand it with me.

Professionally I have worked with many masters students and tutored them on some more advanced aspects of Chemistry such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy and practical Organic Chemistry. I also lecture on several subjects at my University and have received excellent feedback.

Tutoring Approach:

I usually try to work with images first to help the student picture what we are trying to learn. I find that once a student has a working model or analogy in their head it is much easier to advance and increase their understanding eventually leading to the removal of the analogy.

I find that exercises are useful to build a strong memory of facts and figures associated with the science. I don't believe in learning by rote (although it will pass most exams) if you are interested in a sound understanding of a theory or subject. Any tutoring that I provide will be tailored to the student's particular preference in learning style.

I am 23 years old, and a graduate of French and Management from Leeds University. I am currently living in Oxford. I have a passion for the French language and culture and would love to share and help pass this on to other young people alongside my work.
(I am the brunette in the picture)

Teaching Experience:

I have spent a year working in France as a teaching assistant with the British Council, where I taught English to students aged 15-22. This was a fantastic opportunity for me to gain experience working in a different culture, and to hone my presentation and organisational skills in a new and challenging environment.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to make learning fun, and to motivate students. I do this by setting interesting and diverse themes. I then divide individual classes into several activities to help keep students engaged. I regularly employ vocabulary games and set challenges, which are surprisingly effective way for students to learn and retain new words whilst making the lessons more enjoyable for the students!

Personal Description:
What makes my classes the best option to learn Russian?

- You will acquire Russian naturally in a fun and stress-free learning atmosphere.
- You will be learning with a native speaker.
- You will make progress every single lesson without exception! My lessons are result focussed and highly engaging.
- You will save time by learning from the most effective language acquisition techniques.
- You will have an online access to your individualised lessons materials via your personal Moodle account enabling you to learn anywhere anytime.
- You may choose to take classes according to your needs.
- No obligation initial consultation.

My classes are for

- Adults, Business and Travel
- Children of Russian heritage or working towards a qualification

My lessons for children are based around
- developing your child's speech, reading and writing,
- improving his comprehension
- building her Russian vocabulary to the "educated" standard,
- learning about Russian culture and history
- working on language intereferance and language code switching.
In my teaching children I use proven methods and stragegies developed in American and German schools specifically for biligual children, as well as materials created by a very talented Olga Soboleva.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching adults and children both at prep school and privately.

Tutoring Approach:

As Stephen Krashen puts it, "Simply being a native speaker of a language does not in of itself qualify one as a teacher of that language. Conscious and extensive knowledge of grammar does not make one a language teacher either. Rather, the defining characteristic of a good teacher is someone who can make input comprehensible to a non-native speaker, regardless of his or her level of competence in the target language."

Your primary goal as a student is to learn a language. In that regard my primary job as a tutor is to guarantee the effectiveness of your learning process in relation to your needs and expectations.

How do I achieve that? First and most importantly by combining the right set of tools in my teaching repertoire:

- TPRS - Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling - is at the core of my methodology.

Traditionally there has been a prejudiced view that only certain people can 'do' languages. That only smart students can become proficient and that only the really smart can move on to advanced study. TPRS has demonstrated that the vast majority of students can achieve high levels of success at all levels of foreign language study, and that acquiring a second language isn't nearly as difficult as we teachers sometimes make it. TPRS is making particular headway in language classrooms across the US and considerable research has been done and published on its efficacy.

TPRS works because it is brain-friendly and multi-sensory methodology, fitting the needs of various learning styles. Students develop a real "ear for the language," learning to listen and respond to what sounds right.

- Teaching grammar in meaningful context from day one
The focus is first and foremost on the message, with realistic expectations (level-appropriate) for grammatical accuracy. My philosophy is that of John DeMado: "Linguistic accuracy is a destination, not a point of departure." My way of teaching grammar is based on usefulness, frequency of use and level appropriateness.

- Tremendous amount of Comprehensible Input.

This approach supports the language acquisition theory by Stephen Krashen, who says: "We acquire language in only one way, when we understand messages, that is when we obtain comprehensible input."

- Reading as a major component of learning process.

In his book, The Power of Reading: Insights into the Research, 2nd edition, (p. 37) Stephen Krashen states, "Studies showing that reading enhances literacy development lead to what should be an uncontroversial conclusion: Reading is good for you. The research, however, supports a stronger conclusion: Reading is the only way we become good readers, develop good writing style, an adequate vocabulary, advanced grammatical competence, and the only way we become good spellers."

- Teaching Russian to heritage speakers as a language arts/social science.

What students say:

"As a language teacher myself, I was very particular about the kind of Russian lessons I wanted: communicative, engaging, learning through interaction. I didn't want to get bogged down in grammar but instead to focus on useful vocabulary and phrases I could actually use in Moscow during my regular visits. Julia's lessons have fitted this brief perfectly. Even in our first lesson, I was using Russian to interact in a very simple way, which gave me a huge confidence boost. Julia got to know me well in the initial lesson and then tailored all our classes to my interests and daily activities, making the lessons really relevant and interesting. I initially explained to Julia that I could only do 20 minutes homework a day while commuting into work. She therefore provided vocabulary flashcards I could use on the train to maximise this time. The whole service is bespoke! Julia is a patient, encouraging and engaging teacher "
I would highly recommend her lessons." Sarah, Surbiton

"I took about 5 months of private lessons with Julia, in preparation for a long motorcycle trip around Northern and Central Asia. Although I had been learning a bit of Russian a few years back, I had forgotten everything. In 5 months I went from not speaking any Russian to be able to speak simple sentences, ask questions, explain situations, and feel confident that I can find my way round in any situation that may arise through the trip. Julia impressed me by her enthusiasm, by how much research, effort and preparation she put in, to design the lessons to fit my specific needs, for this journey. I definitely would recommend her to my friends and anyone who wants to learn Russian fast and efficiently." Maria, New Malden

Personal Description:
I am an élite tutor with a double first class MA (Cantab) from the University of Cambridge, specialising in teaching language to learners of all ages. This includes English, Drama, Spanish, Arabic, French and Linguistics.

At a glance:

- Five years' tuition experience.

- First Class degree from University of Cambridge, MA (Cantab).

- Winner of the Bailey Prize and the Dajani Prize for my dissertation and overall degree at Queens' College, Cambridge.

- Winner of the Lerverhulme Trust and D'Oyly Carte Scholarships at Guildhall School; finalist in the National Theatre's Michael Bryant Verse Speaking Award, and the BBC Carlton Hobbs Radio Award.

- Distinction in Advanced Extension Awards in both Spanish and French

Teaching Experience:

I teach English literature and linguistics to all levels, and English language skills both to native speakers and second language learners wishing to finesse their writing and speaking to a level of professional excellence.

I have had great success teaching Spanish, Arabic and French as foreign languages, including to students who had previously struggled with the subjects. I have a 100% success rate in preparing applicants for Oxford and Cambridge.

As a professional actor working on stage and screen, with an MA from the internationally-renowned Guildhall School of Music and Drama, I also enjoy teaching drama and offer mentoring to drama school applicants.

Aside from five years' varied tuition experience (with impeccable references), I have also taught workshops on drama, Shakespeare and improvised comedy in universities and high schools in Britain, France, Germany, Switzerland and the United States

Tutoring Approach:

Despite high demand for my services, I insist on operating a select client list. This enables me to devote the utmost time and care to what I am passionate about: bringing out the best in those I teach.

My method of working is tailored personally and specifically to each individual tutee, their way of learning, and their goals. I pride myself on the relationships I have with my students, who have ranged from adults learning new languages for personal reasons, to primary school children in need of general help with schoolwork. Only by being friendly and engaging but also challenging and determined can I help them fulfil their potential.

Personal Description:
- I have successfully completed two years of a BSc Biomedical science degree at King's college London and have a love of biology and wider science I would love to share with younger generations.
- I am currently taking a year out to help care for my terminally ill father.
- Prior to this, I attended Hampton school from which I graduated with the A-levels maths, chemistry and biology (AAA) and the AS levels physics, geography and computing (AAA).
- Outside of education, I am a 21 year old with keen interests in fitness/nutrition, travelling and extensive reading.
- My primary academic interest lies within the realms of biology but my university degree has left me well versed in chemistry, biochemistry and maths as well.

While I do have my own car and am able to travel as necessary I also have a spacious, 2 desk home office that is an excellent learning environment.

Teaching Experience:

- Throughout my time at school and university I have always enjoyed mentoring, supporting and teaching both those in younger years and my peers who are struggling to grasp a concept.
- I also provided my sister with support in sciences and maths throughout her studies as she was more artistically minded and focused.
- I also spent 6 months volunteering with children who had severe downs syndrome aimed at engaging them in activities to develop their social, cognitive and verbal skills. This was an invaluable experience that saw my patience and empathy grow immeasurably.

Tutoring Approach:

1 - Flexible: Not everyone has the same ability, needs or approach to learning and so I feel it is imperative that tutoring is tailored specifically to what each child wants and needs.
2 - Thorough: I feel that often problems within subjects can run deep to the fundamentals principals on which it is based. It is important that each child has a good understanding of these as they provide them with the ability to apply them and learn independently.
3 - Patient: Feeling like you are struggling and not doing as well as you might want is an extremely demoralizing and difficult thing for a child to cope with. As someone who has experienced it myself I feel I am able to help guide them back on track through my ability to empathize, develop a relationship and slowly help rebuild confidence and motivation.
