Personal Description:
I'm a BBC television journalist, with a science background. I have to Research new subjects from scratch in order to make informative programmes therefore I can take any subject matter and work hard to have a good understanding of it in a very short space of time.

My skill is teaching people new things - especially helping Students to understand subjects that they have always found difficult. I understand that everyone learns in different ways and that a single method of teaching doesn't work with everyone. By getting to know my student's personality, I discover the ways in which they learn, which means that I can work out the best way to help them to understand new subjects.

I'm patient and good humoured and am good at making people feel relaxed in my company, however I will push to ensure that the students take their work seriously.

Teaching Experience:

Eight years experience tutoring students at home and online - aged 8 upwards. Tutorial help with coursework, essay writing, exam revision and preparation, and practical film making. Tutoring sessions include tips on how to maximise exam marks.

Three months tutoring children in basic numeracy and literacy in the Philippines.

Two years as a cub scout leader - designing weekly classes and running activity sessions for 24 children, aged 8-11.

Tutoring Approach:

I take complicated information and unravel it so that it can be conveyed in simple terms and understood by people of all ages.

I teach a range of subjects in a way that makes them simple to understand and in a style adapted to each student's personality. I'm also skilled at writing reports and essays, particularly understanding all the applied thinking that needs to be demonstrated to gain extra marks.

I love teaching and pass on my enthusiasm to my students. I believe that it's essential to build up the pupil's confidence in their own ability to learn in order for them to become more interested and approach learning in a more focused way.

I always supply the students with extra Q&A revision papers so that they can continue learning outside tutorials.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying for a Biological Sciences PhD. I have an MSc in Applied Marine Science and a first class honours BSc in Marine Biology.
I love my subject and want to share this with the next generation while helping them achieve the best that they can.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience in secondary level education in England, having completed the Student Associate Scheme at the end of my Bachelors Degree. In doing so I had experience working as a classroom assistant and running my own Biology lessons.
I have also worked as a demonstrator within the university.

Tutoring Approach:

I don't believe in giving the answers, it does not help anybody. My approach is to explore the question/problem/topic. If a question can be explored from a different angle then the answer is always reachable. Learning shouldn't be just memorising facts, but really understanding a topic. I love that moment when it just clicks!

Personal Description:
I'm a graduate-entry third year medical student at Imperial College London. I graduated from the University of Sheffield with an upper second class honours degree in Biomedical Sciences in 2012. In between my two degrees I worked as a Medical Assistant in Paediatrics A&E at St George's Hospital, I admire the energy that young people have and found working with children so rewarding. My education and work life has equipped me with solid communication skills, and the ability to work with a vast range of people. Pursuing a path in science has required a lot of motivation, whilst studying for my degrees I consider that my organisational and time-keeping skills have been vital. Despite my background in science I have always maintained a creative side too, and have a keen interest in literature and the arts.

Teaching Experience:

Taking part in numerous voluntary projects has given me a lot of opportunity to teach, both one-to-one and in group scenarios. Whilst volunteering at my local hospital I helped on the children's ward to ensure the patients were not missing out on their education. This included helping children of all ages with their coursework and school syllabus'. I took part in a project based in South Africa teaching at an orphanage, this was a challenge due to the limited resources available, and a language barrier. However, using innovative ways as a team we were able to conduct lessons teaching English, Numeracy and Music that were accessible and enjoyable for the children. During my university career I have completed assignments presenting my own research or ideas to groups of students and tutors, this required explaining concepts in a clear and concise manner. Over the past two years I have tutored several students privately. I have found this experience rewarding and am very proud of their achievements.

Tutoring Approach:

I am always keen to share my enthusiasm in the subject that I am teaching. I am aware of the importance of maintaining a student's interest in the subject. In order to do this, I believe it is vital to assess each student's style and tailor my teaching towards their individual needs. I am very patient, and am happy to explain concepts in numerous different ways to ensure that a student is comfortable. I approach work in a professional manner, and appreciate the importance of time-keeping and dependability.

Teaching Experience:

I've had experiences in teaching privately for 3 years, I use to mainly teach in secondary schools along side both children and adults. I've also taught children with special needs and watch them develop and grow to feel happy because they can play and understand music.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to music tuitionl is to inspire, be passionate and most of all make students be happy. Considering that I'm in full time education, I've witnessed many teachers in music and other subjects that don't enjoy what they do for a living. Fortunately I enjoy the rewarding side of making a child or an adult happy due to them being able to play and understand elements that make music.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified experienced maths teacher with a BSc in Mathematics. I have experience in intervention and one to one tutoring within a high school setting, delivering the intervention sessions in one high school and taking the responsibility of intervention coordinator in another. I have also prepared small groups of pupils for Further/Additional Maths at GCSE Level. I have been very successful in improving under achieving students to achieve their target grade both as a tutor and teacher. For example I took over a GCSE class which was a bottom set who I started teaching at the start of year 11. At that point the highest grade in the class was a grade F. By the end of the year everyone improved significantly and several gained a grade C. As a father I know how important our children achieving their best is to all parents.

Teaching Experience:

During my teaching career I have taught in 4 different high schools including schools with a sixth form. My first post was in a Lancashire High school where I was responsible for the intervention in Mathematics which involves helping small groups of pupils who are below target in Mathematics. My last GCSE group all achieved grade A*-C. (set 2 of 6)

My next post was in a Sefton High School and sixth form where I was responsible for organising and running intervention. My GCSE group (set 5/bottom set) all achieved at least three levels of progress from their starting point and 3 pupils achieved a grade C (This was above their target grade).

In my final year I was teaching 3 GCSE classes. A higher group in which all achieved B-A* as well as a vocational group and a bottom set where some pupils achieved grade C and others made their expected progress.

I have tutored both in school and privately with a lot of success. One example was a private student who came to me having achieved a grade F at the end of year 10. A year later she achieved a C in her GCSE exam. Successes from the exam results in 2016 include an A level student moving from a E to a B. A GCSE student moving from an F to a C who I started tutoring in February. Another GCSE pupil moving from a C to an A.

I am fully up to date with the changes in exams at GCSE Level for the new 9-1 GCSE`s and the changes in the sats for Primary school pupils.

Tutoring Approach:

I want all my students to be able to develop their understanding of mathematics rather than just learning how to answer a question. I try to work with their class teacher in following the methods they are being taught at school but also realise that different methods may be appropriate if they are struggling. I set homework weekly which is assessed at the start each session unless it is a longer piece or exam paper which is taken away and marked and brought back to the next session. I plan topics which are linked to previous learning in order to develop the bigger picture of mathematics but have excellent subject knowledge so I'm able to change my plan if the student wishes to look at another area that might have arisen as a problem in school/college. I also like my students to be proactive and get in touch if they wish to cover a particular topic which wasn't mentioned at the end of the previous session. I have a good relationship with all the people I tutor, they are at ease to ask questions and praise is central to help raise confidence.
