Teaching Experience:

I specialise in 1-1 tutoring of Maths at GCSE and IGCSE Level. In the past year I have been giving 1-1 tuition to 15 students who attend schools in Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge that use Edexcel and OCR Exam Boards. I have also given tuition to students who wish to refresh their "mental maths", gain a teaching qualification or gain entry to officer training in the Armed Services.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach depends partly on how near the Exam date is. If the date is some way away I will focus on teaching the topics the pupil identifies that they have difficulty with. In particular I go through what the pupil has been taught at school since my last tuition session to check that they understand it. As the exam date gets nearer I work through a checklist of every topic in the syllabus, and ensure I cover everything the pupil needs to understand to achieve their target Grade. It's also important for pupils to practise past papers so that they acquire exam technique as well as proficiency in the topics in the syllabus.

I am very much a spontaneous teacher, adapting quickly to the needs of my pupils and am quite flexible in that way. I am meticulous with my lesson planning and work hard to ensure positive outcomes.

These courses ran to educate children between primary and A-level in various aspects of inorganic chemistry. Topics covered were designed to show the diversity of chemistry applied industrially to things such as thermochromic paints, fingerprinting and trace detection.

I have already tutored a small number of students who have gone on to successfully complete there A - levels with progression to UK universities.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe strongly that no two people learn in the same manner; while some respond well to repeat readings by themselves, other people learn well through lecturing and taking notes. It's fundamental to get an understanding of this before commencing tutoring, personally i liked having spoken word followed up by practice exam questions to apply the knowledge.

Second to actually tutoring the academic aspects of science, I emphasise the importance of good exam technique. A large part of any tutoring would be aimed at ensuring the student understands what an exam question is asking and what is relevant in response - a sound knowledge with knowing how to apply it is a key to success.

Hello, I am a GB skeleton athlete currently on a sabbatical from my job as an exercise physiologist. My expertise is in sport science, specialising in physiology which I have a MSc degree from Loughborough University. I am living in Bath again (I did my first degree here) in order to train full-time for skeleton, with the goal being to compete at the Olympic Games in 2022.

I have plenty of ambition, drive and determination and love to inspire people to work hard to achieve their goals. So far I have achieved all the goals I set for myself since school e.g. studying at university, working in elite sport.

I studied maths, english, science, history, geography, P.E., textiles and French for GCSE and got A and A* grades. At A level I studied biology,P.E. and history and received AAB respectively. I have a upper second class honours BSc in sport and exercise science from The University of Bath and a first class MSc in exercise physiology.

Teaching Experience:

I was a class tutor at Loughborough College for three months after graduating from Loughborough University. This involved working closely with pupils to assist them with their school work across a number of subjects at GCSE level.

Part of my role as a sport scientist was to educate athletes on a number of subjects which would improve their performance. This involved constructing and delivering presentations to groups of adults as well as GCSE/A level students. I also regularly worked on a one to one basis to educate athletes on ways they can improve their performance. In both instances I always use examples to demonstrate the point I am making and improve understanding.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a supportive tutor, who encourages students to find the solutions to their problems. I aim to facilitate learning, not spoon feed. Reliable and qualified Maths Teacher with 20+ years of experience of tutoring individuals and groups.

I care deeply about teaching and learning in general and the teaching of mathematics is a particular passion for me. I am a secondary school mathematics teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). I have completed a BSc in Accounting, an ACCA qualification and a PGCE course. I am currently studying for my MSc Education degree. I have 20+ years experience as a tutor and 10+ years as a teacher. I have also worked for an acounting firm for 5 years and worked as a company director for 7 years.

My first session is provided free of charge and I use this session to understand the needs of prospective pupils. At the end of the session, I have a frank and honest discussion with the pupil and/or their guardians. I use these conversations to listen to the concerns of the pupils and/or their guardians and present an outline of my assessment of the student's areas of strengths and weaknesses. I also suggest a course of action to help the pupil move forward.

Teaching Experience:

I have been providing tuition in mathematics for over 20 years and have been a secondary school Mathematics Teacher for over 10 years. I have tutored A Level, university, AAT, CAT, ACCA, CIMA and CIPFA students in accounting for over 10 years and have 5 years experience teaching professioanl accounting courses in private colleges. I have experience teaching to individual students, to small groups and to classes of up to 35 students. I have helped four year old pupils take their first steps in arithmetic and forty plus year old students finally understand how algebra works. In accounting I have worked with 16 year olds studying accounting for the first time for A Levels or CAT or AAT and 40+ year olds who have working in accounting for a long time and are studying for their professional exams.

I have helped students gain confidence in their own mathematical ability when they have been convinced by the academic system that they are incapable of doing well in the subject. I have also helped higher attaining students to challenge themselves and aspire to become even better. Most recently my Year 7 students were the only gold medallists in the UKMT Junior Mathematics Challenge in my secondary school. They did considerably better than all the other Year 7 students and even all the Year 8 students in the school who sat the same exam.

Tutoring Approach:

During the last two decades I have worked with many hundreds of students and have read research studies from academics around the world on the subject of attainment in mathematics. My own experience is in keeping with all the studies I have read about this topic. The overwhelming majority of students can do well in mathematics provided they have the confidence, the techniques and willingness to work hard. Even after only six to eight weeks of tuition, all the students I have tutored have improved by at least one grade or one level.

I tell all prospective pupils there is no magic bullet or shortcut. To achieve success in mathematics a few things are key: understanding the concept well; understanding when and how to apply it in different situations; lots of practice in applying it in different scenarios and short, regular revision sessions. So my only pre-conditions before I agree to work with any student are: a positive attitude; a commitment to put in the time and effort required to bring about the improvement in their grades; and at least one ninety minute session every week.

It is important to me that students should enjoy mathematics and look forward to their sessions with me. To ensure this I use a variety of different resources to explain concepts to students and am a firm believer in using physical and computer based study tools and aides to complement the standard oral and written tools used to teach mathematics. I also believe in linking the mathematics that we study to the real world to increase students' engagement with the topic and their understanding of its relevance. I am very patient and empathetic to my student's needs and once they develop in confidence I encourage all my students to challenge themselves regularly. Depending on the amount of time available, I usually help students cement their mastery of the foundations of arithmetic and algebra before moving on to establish fluency in statistics, geometry and problem solving.

Personal Description:
Hi! My name is Jay.

I'm 24. Earlier this year I returned from a year teaching in Japan, I am originally from Bedford.

I am currently studying for a masters of research in 'Stem Cells, Development and Regenerative Medicine' at the University of Southampton.

I also hold an undergraduate degree in 'Human Physiology' from the University of Liverpool.

I have been invested in the scientific field since I was very young and I have found that my passion for the field comes across in my tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

My first experience of tutoring was a 6-month period volunteering in a middle school in Bedford town (2014)

I then moved to Japan to teach English as a second language in Mimasaka city where I learnt a great deal about teaching in classes of 3 to 43 students.

Upon returning to England earlier this year, I was employed as a student support in a college in Bedford working with disadvantaged and disabled students both 1 on 1 and in small groups.

Before beginning University, I was a team leader with the National Citizenship Service where I helped a group of 15 students complete a dynamic course including everything from adventure activities to carrying out a fundraising project for charity.

I will soon begin volunteering with a mentoring/tutoring charity in Southampton for disadvantaged students.

I have a wide range of experiences working with students from different backgrounds inside and out of the education system. I have attained high qualifications in every subject I tutor and I believe I can both discuss and demonstrate the merits of hard work and education with students who require motivation.

Tutoring Approach:

After much experience in various areas of the education sector, I strongly believe that learning through discussion and questioning is the most effective way to understand the fundamentals of science and improve in this field. Developing a deep interest in science this way can greatly improve a student's confidence and understanding. I can also provide help in exam theory to ensure students won't lose marks through misunderstandings in what is required when answering modern day exam questions.

However, I understand that every student has their own needs and I will strive to tailor each session to the individual.
