Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified teacher of German and Spanish and I have been teaching for a number of years. I am now working as a teacher of Modern Languages in a secondary school.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience of one-to-one and small group tutoring and I have a thorough knowledge of the Scottish school curriculum including arrangements for the new National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher courses. I have now taught the new Curriculum for Excellnece courses in both German and Spanish and have a good understanding of levels and assessments.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring is a great way of learning a language because you benefit from full attention of your tutor. I plan and deliver my lessons to suit my pupils' needs. Passing an exam often needs specialist preparation with someone who knows the exam system and can guide their pupil/student through e.g. unit assessments, Talking exam preparation etc.
On the other hand, we learn languages to use them independently, free from the constraints of selected exam topics. This is where vocabulary, language structure and grammar come together and enables the learner to use their learning in different contexts. I teach all areas effectively using tried and tested techniques and resources that will help my learners improve their knowledge of the language.

Personal Description:
I currently work at the Financial Ombudsman Service and possess a wealth of experience in the legal/ financial world, as well as the social sciences having worked at The Priory for seven years.
Teaching is a great passion of mine that I am very enthusiastic about.
I am a graduate of Northumbria University and London Guildhall University. Having completed a LLB in Law and a BSc in Psychology and Law, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I have decided to teach and have been tutoring for about 10 years.
Currently, I specialise in Law and Psychology, and thoroughly enjoy providing a high standard of quality of teaching to my students. I ensure that the time spent with me is dedicated to achieving what the student requires most.
As a highly qualified and talented individual I enjoy sharing my skills, methods and techniques with my students ,aspiring to ensure that they excel in their chosen course/ subjects.
My students have been able to achieve not just higher grades but also a better understanding of their subjects. They have also been able to gain further transferable skills.

Teaching Experience:

I have ten years experience of private teaching/ tutoring. I teach A level to degree level Law and Psychology.

Tutoring Approach:

I can arrange face to face meetings or online communication.
Tutorial sessions are used to further students knowledge on subjects they require assistance with. They are also used to add additional information and techniques to enhance chances of receiving higher grades.
On initial contact a plan is made in accordance with what is required. The plan will provide for learning subjects as well as exam preparation by way of doing practice papers from previous years.

Personal Description:
My name is Haidee, I'm a 19 year old from Liverpool studying French at The University of Liverpool. (I often go to Kirkby and Fazackerly to work and see family so would often be available to tutor in that area too). I have thoroughly enjoyed learning French for 8 years and would love to pass on my knowledge so that you can enjoy learning French too! This is my first time tutoring but I have a genuine love and flair for languages and have enjoyed teaching friends in my own time, so please don't let this put you off as I would love to help!

In school I sat my GCSE early at the age of 14 (year 9), passing with a B. I then continued to study French for the final two years of school and passed again with an A*. I also started studying Spanish in the last two years and passed with an A. During college I studied French to A2 level, passing with a B. In my time in college I spent a week each year in Montpellier living with a French family and attending a French language school, which I really enjoyed and feel helped me with my learning.

In my free time I love to cook (although I'm not very good at it!), go out for meals (when my cooking goes wrong!), read and watch films. I also love to practise Tae Kwon Do, which I started at the age of 15, although I don't do this since I moved away to university.

Teaching Experience:

This is my first time trying tutoring, but I often helped my sister with her French to GCSE level. I also helped a friend of mine who struggled in school to pass her English and Maths GCSE by using imaginative teaching and memory techniques, to which she was very grateful. Due to having friends that also study languages I am used to being able to help others in areas in which they struggle. I have worked with children and young adults from age 2-18 part-time for the past 3 years and so would be comfortable teaching from all ages.

Tutoring Approach:

Throughout my learning experience I have found that it is best to learn the basic rules and grammar of a language from the start, as this has made it easier to build on this. I have lots of quirky ways of remembering things myself and would urge you to figure out how best you learn in order to develop your own style. I also enjoy to watch films/news, listen to music and read genuine French articles to enhance my own learning and would be using these to make your learning more interesting. As not every individual is the same I will adapt my teaching to suit your style and meet your individual needs and if there's something different you want to do please let me know so I can change!

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic, creative and highly experienced teacher of English language and literature. I retired In 2014 from the full-time secondary school teaching post I held for 23 years, at an independent girls' school in Lincolnshire. I taught throughout the school, at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, and have a strong proven commitment to raising academic standards; my students have achieved consistently excellent GCSE and A Level grades. Although I have a particular passion for teaching literature, I am a rigorous teacher dedicated to raising standards of literacy through my teaching of English language, and to the educational and personal development of young people more widely, especially those in transition to higher education.

As well as teaching my academic subject, I was a sixth form personal tutor for 18 years, monitoring my students' academic progress, and guiding and mentoring those applying to university, assisting with UCAS applications and personal statements, or helping tutees plan for a gap year or for employment - a role which I found particularly fulfilling. I also have experience of teaching in further education and have been successful in teaching mature students from different cultural backgrounds.

For two years 2012-14 , I supervised sixth form students taking the AQA Extended Project Qualification. I greatly enjoy one - to-one tuition.

In a career spanning more than 40 years in all, I have built up extensive subject knowledge and teaching expertise, which I can adapt to students ranging from 11 years to adult.

Teaching Experience:

In my most recent post, which I held for 23 years until my recent retirement, I taught English Language and English Literature throughout the school: to pupils aged 11-14 at Key Stage 3, to pupils taking GCSE exams, and to sixth formers taking AS and A level English.
At GCSE and AS/A Level my pupils have obtained consistently excellent results. I have taught a very wide range of set texts for literature and have taught courses by different exam boards, such as Edexcel, and OCR, and the CIE IGCSE.

My teaching has often involved one-to-one sessions with pupils who need extra support and I have taught those whose attainment in the subject is modest, as well as higher achievers in English.

My teaching experience prior to this included teaching for a total of 7 years full and part-time in further education colleges, and I have also taught English as a foreign language for the British Council.

I have been tutoring privately since retiring from full time school teaching, and I currently tutor students ranging from 15 to 21, assisting with preparation for GCSE exams, A Levels, and at university level. I have been tutoring students following a range of different GCSE courses and examining boards, including Edexcel IGCSE, Cambridge IGCSE, and AQA GCSE courses, both language and literature qualifications, and also the Edexcel combined A Level Language and Literature. My tutoring role includes assisting my tutees with revision of a wide range of set texts, demonstrating my adaptability and expertise in quickly grasping what different exam techniques are required. My private tutees gained English language and literature grades that exceeded their school teachers' expectations in the summer 2015 round of GCSE exams, achieving grades ranging from C (D predicted) to A* (B predicted). In summer 2016, again, my private tutees achieved good grades at least one grade higher than predicted at school and have been able to continue to the next stage of their studies, including university entrance.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is a natural continuation of my approach as a classroom teacher. I am passionate about my subject and prepare lessons thoroughly and imaginatively. I begin by making sure I am fully in the picture with regard to the specific course being followed and the exam criteria, and use the exam boards' websites to source relevant materials such as past papers and teaching resources.

I always have a clear lesson plan and realistic aim of what I wish to achieve in the time available. I like people and I am a friendly, outgoing person who will communicate successfully with a tutee; I enjoy the company of young people and am experienced in putting my tutees at their ease and building their confidence, which I believe is very important. I form productive relationships with those I teach and am good at listening to them and assessing their needs, and adjusting my teaching strategy accordingly.

As well as preparing thoroughly, I mark work meticulously and give very detailed and helpful feedback, both in writing and orally. I set relevant work to be completed for the next tutorial, and monitor progress closely; I stay in regular contact with my students and/or their parents via email and phone.

I am a hardworking and sympathetic tutor with the interests of my tutees at heart; my aim is to help them achieve their full potential and gain exam success.

i prefer to tutor in my own home where I am set up to receive my tutees in a quiet environment designed to maximise academic concentration. I do not tutor on Fridays or at weekends. I am usually able to tutor in school holidays, when I can offer longer, more intensive revision sessions.

Here are some recent 2016 testimonials from former tutees and their parents:

A Level

We turned to a private tutor because our daughter received a disappointing result in her first year of A Level English, but she knew she could do better and wanted to go to a first class University to study English. Her coursework had been excellent and most of her homework was good, too, but her exam technique was less secure. Isla definitely made a difference. She is a nurturing teacher who interacts with the student really well. Isla gave good advice about preparing for the exam paper and gave support in revision of the various texts, which boosted our daughter's confidence. Having achieved the necessary entry grades, our daughter is now at Newcastle University starting her degree course and wants to keep in touch with Isla."
Sally S, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, parent of A Level student

"As someone who wanted to pursue English at university, my grade C at AS Level was not good enough, so during Year 13 we found a private tutor to help me with my A Level English Language and Literature course. Isla put lots of time into helping me come out with an overall high grade B. She gave me wonderful advice with my creative coursework and really enhanced my knowledge of the two plays I was studying for my written exam. I am so grateful and will continue to keep in touch with Isla as I enter my degree course at Newcastle University for English Literature and Creative Writing."
Emily S, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, A Level tutee

GCSE
"Isla provided excellent support during Year 10 and 11 to our daughter in relation to her GCSE studies in both English Literature and Language. This complemented her learning at school and enabled focus on those areas where extra support or explanation was needed. Isla was very flexible in her approach, tailoring her lessons to our daughter's needs and providing additional support on the run up to the exams themselves. Although our daughter isn't continuing her English studies at A Level, Isla is going continue to provide support in relation to essay structure and comprehension in the subjects she has chosen to study. We would highly recommend her. "
Rachel M, Leicestershire, parent of GCSE pupil

Please note:
Some tutees opt for longer sessions fortnightly , rather than one hour weekly. My fees for longer sessions for GCSE and A Level students are £60 for an hour and a half, and £75 for a two hour tutorial, representing a small reduction on the hourly fee of £45. My fees include preparation for the lesson, marking of set written homework, the actual contact time, and follow-up emails,

Personal Description:
I am a third year medical student at Imperial College London. I am very approachable and patient when it comes to working with kids. Having only just left school and achieved excellent results in both GCSE's and A-levels, I know what it requires to bring the best out of a pupil, and that with hard work and the belief that you can do well, that anyone can go on to achieve their ambitions exceptional grades. Having also only recently entered medical school, I understand their requirements extremely well, and can assist with UKCAT (my score: 740) and BMAT (My score: 6.7, 6.5, 4A) revision as well as working on interview and the UCAS application.

Teaching Experience:

Having recently been recruited by keystone tutors, I have had some extra training with regards to the different approaches with different pupils. Since joining university, I am now assisting 8 students with their studies, all of varying levels and take pride in watching them improve over the past few months. The age group varies from doing the 11+ test all the way up to A-level sciences and maths. Having helped a couple of them with GCSE's last year, they improved from a C to an A in their sciences and achieved A*s in Maths. During my A-levels, I was biology and maths prefect, so every week I would run drop-in clinics for year 10 pupils to help with areas they didn't quite understand. Having had some very influential teachers throughout secondary school, I tried to emulate them when tutoring these students. I am fully aware of how beneficial a one-to-one session can be and look to bring the best out of the pupils.

With regards to medicine, I was president of Medic Society during my last year, which involved informing pupils in the younger years about the application process as well as giving them interview and UCAS application preparation. They all found it incredibly useful and have all received offers from medical schools since.

Tutoring Approach:

"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." (Benjamin Franklin)

My teaching style is based around this motto. My sessions are as interactive as possible, explaining complex ideas in inspiring and interesting ways, making it simple to understand. I believe in setting a good base on which to build upon and then tackling exam questions and focusing on exam technique. Nothing is easy and I do expect the child to work hard in order to understand certain aspects, at the same time I am not stern.

Something I certainly found extremely confidence-building was learning beyond the restrictions of the course guide so that I walked into the exam hall relaxed, knowing that I had excess knowledge, and that the examiners could throw any question at me. It will also help the child's understanding if they do intend to carry on the subject.

Of course I would not pile on too much information if the child does feel he/she is struggling, and would work at a pace they feel is comfortable.
Most important thing though, above all else, is to have fun and enjoy what you are learning.

For potential medicine students, I can provide tips and questions for BMAT and UKCAT practice. There are certain tips that are effective which I can provide. Along with this, I can prepare you for the various different university interviews, having experienced all of the ones which I applied for; Cambridge, Imperial College, St Andrews and Aberdeen. Another important field is the personal statement and I can help to improve it as well as relay it to other contacts I have to proof read it and offer constructive criticism.

If you need a tutor with a proven track record for Biology and Science, please contact me. As a current GCSE and A level senior examiner, I can help with exam technique, homework and coursework.

I have an up to date DBS and a full range of textbooks, animations and up to date teaching resources.

Most importantly, I have 25 years of science teaching experience, having worked at two local sixth form colleges so I understand the needs of students preparing for these crucial examinations in an increasingly competitive world.

Teaching Experience:

25 years of A level Biology teaching and a senior examiner

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring involves using past papers and focusing on exam technique. My methods are traditional, using past exam papers and worked examples. Personal Description:
Hi I'm Anmol, I'm a Pharmacy student at Kings College London.

I have previous experience tutoring students of GCSE level for Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology as well as being chosen to one-to-one mentor a year 9 student for exams.
During my AS and A2 years in college, I was also a mentor for a class of Year 10 students supporting them during stressful exam periods.
I am enthusiastic and friendly and have volunteered for two years at a special needs college which greatly developed my confidence skills.

I am dedicated to teaching with a proven track record of responsibility and commitment to meet targets and objectives.

Before the lesson- I would like to discuss which topics are to be covered and source questions for the particular topic so we would know which areas are weak and we can focus on them particularly.
I believe in practising past paper questions topic-by topic, so when it comes to the end of the syllabus the student is already familiar with the sorts that can come up alongside having confidence that they know that area well.

I will try my best to be enthusiastic and keep the student engaged by making the sessions enjoyable so they will grasp more information.

After the session- I will assign some homework and mark it for the next session to get a 100% satisfaction that the student is confident on the topic.

I'm also happy to help with university applications and personal statements! I know applying can be a very challenging process since going through it I feel well equipped to help!

Lastly, I'd like to emphasise that I like to think of teaching as an engaging interaction and not a boring experience. With all the classes I've delivered in the past and the tutees I've tutored, I've always tried my best to really make every hour as productive as possible.

Teaching Experience:

-tutored A level students during college
-mentored a year 10/11 class for two years
-volunteered at a special needs college
-currently teaching GCSE/A LEVEL/ 11+ students

Tutoring Approach:

My main aim will be to provide a solid knowledge of the content and tailor this to the exam style by implementing past papers and textbook questions.

I will try my best to be enthusiastic and keep the student engaged by making the sessions enjoyable so they will grasp more information.

I will keep a close focus on the progression of the student and closer to exams offer detailed revision sessions of all the syllabus.

Personal Description:
I am a recent graduate from Bath Spa University with a first class BA (Hons) in Contemporary Arts Practice. 2014-2017
I am about to start a Masters at the Royal College of Art in Mixed Media Textiles.

I have been practising art for as long as I can remember, and have been selling and exhibiting my work the last two years through commissions and partaking in group exhibitions.

My practice involves using recycled materials and environmentally friendly techniques which I like to bring forward in the lessons teaching children how to create art from materials already available to them.

I'm a young enthusiastic reliable person with lots of energy and time for children.

Ideally I would like to tutor children around West London as I don't have a car.

Teaching Experience:

I have 10 years childcare experience in which I often partook in creative activities with the children.
The age range I have worked with are between 1-12 so ideally I would like to tutor this age group.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that every child learns differently so my teaching approach will vary slightly from child to child dependent on their interests and what they and the parent would like them to learn.
I feel it is important for the child to be excited about what they are learning and be able to express themselves in our lessons, I will often teach fun exciting activities and skills that are not necessarily taught in school.
My art lessons take on a different alternative approach to typical art lessons, for example learning how to make the materials they are going to use as well as how to use them e.g making own paint as well as many more!
