Teaching Experience: I am a qualified further education teacher whom has worked on a supply basis with primary, secondary and post 14 ages through the medium of welsh and within the Special Educational needs Sector. I qualified with a specialism in Sports Science and therefore can teach maths and biology to GCSE Level comfatably and could teach Sport Science to Degree level. I am currently doing a 2 month placement at a Welsh medium secondary school in the Rhondda Cynnon Taff area. The post consists of teaching PE, Maths and Personal and Social education. Previous to qualifying I managed a supported housing project for 16-25 year olds whom had previously experienced some challenges throughout their lives. I would tutor these with Basic Skills and skills that would assist within their specified Special Educational Needs. |
Tutoring Approach: I love the one on one approach of tutoring because you can best change your teaching/tutoring style to suit that person. I believe that everyone can learn but it is how they learn that makes a class situation sometimes difficult. In order for that teacher to give 100% to every person then they require a million styles of teaching all at once and that is impossible. If I am honest I was not the brightest in the class during my schooling days however once I applied the subject to something I enjoyed it became so much easier. A person can lose interest the majority of the time either because it is TOO EASY or it is TOO HARD, the goal is to keep the interest by raising or lowering the bar. |

Teaching Experience: My teacher training back in 2002 - 2004 encouraged me to develop my skills and knowledge in teaching; I also expanded this further at the University of Sunderland in which I obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Post 16 Education. Since 2004 I have taught a wide range of ICT subjects such as Web Design, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and all the other Microsoft Office software, I also teach the very basics of using a computer and how to use the internet, including be safe on the internet. I have taught accredited courses too such as NOCN based qualifications, I mainly teach from one-to-one to small groups of around 6 to 10 learners. Many of the resources and learning methods I use in teaching are created by me to ensure that learners get the best assessment and learning experience, this includes Individual Learning Plans and progress reports. I also make sure that learners have hands on practical experience of using a computer. |
Tutoring Approach: I approach teaching in a supportive manner that is very learner focussed. I allow learners to go at their own pace and not feel pressured; afterall learning should be done in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and also be fun and interactive. If a learner has a question, I certainly do not mind them asking it, no matter how trivial the questions may be I always encourage learners to ask, especially since learning computers can be halted by the most simplest of things. Handouts are given mainly as reference materials or as a practical activity to do between sessions to help build confidence in learners using the computer on their own. During the sessions, I tend to do practical demonstrations to allow the learner to follow and also practical activities to help a learner build up skills. I do not give a handout and say 'learn this'. Learning is tracked by an individual learning plan and progress reports, in which the learner and myself can use to track progress throughout the learning journey. |
