Personal Description:
I have taught mathematics for over 20 years now and enjoy keeping up to date with lesson delivery, whilst maintaining a keen interest in how we learn about numbers and maths generally. Towards the end of my career I became interested in our parents and how many struggle with the often complicated explanations offered in some texts or online explanations. I am now semi retired and enjoy offering some simple private tuition in addition to continuing to work part time in schools. I am a friendly, down to earth tutor a good sense of humour.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching in schools for over 20 years with experience in primary numeracy, GCSE's, A levels. I translate complex concepts into ordinary language and everyday life

I also now teach privately for the rest of the week from my home (please view the map for location)
I have enjoyed teaching some very gifted students as well as those who find the subject quite a challenge, as indeed we all do from time to time

Tutoring Approach:

I now mainly prefer to teach adults up to GCSE but as long as you can make daytime sessions I can help. I use an intuitive approach wherever possible. It has been noted that I explain concepts quite clearly and students can be surprised at the ease with which they pick up previously difficult concepts.

I also prepare students for exams and offer guidance on exam technique.

I usually work with whatever you bring to the session, unless a specific topic needs covering in more depth

Personal Description:
I live in Cheshire and have two children. I enjoy camping, the outdoors & the countryside in general. We like to travel around the UK, especially Scotland & Southern Ireland. I have enjoyed being successful professionally & in my academic career & I am always looking for new opportunities to make the best use of the skills I've developed over the years. I enjoy working out and train most days. I have an interest in numismatics (coins and paper money).

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching in Further & Higher education for the past 22 years & I am Head of Subject & Senior Lecturer at a College with Beacon status in the North West. My results are 10% above national benchmark & I am an examiner with a leading examination board. Last year, I carried out some regular private tuition & was able to turn E grades into A grades at A2 level. This was very satisfying for me & the student concerned was able to go on & take a degree in Law, something he wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. I have been specialising in online teaching since 2009 and have been supporting A level, Undergraduate and Ph.D students in order to maximise their academic potential and their summative grades. Don't wait until September to contact me, get ahead now.............Julian

Tutoring Approach:

I like to treat every student as an individual & seek to respond to their individual learning needs. I offer a very reliable, high standard of service & see us as working together to achieve a common objective, that of success in the summative examinations. Being an examiner for sociology is also a real advantage for my tutees too. More recently, I have been working with Nelson Thornes and AQA to provide 50 online Sociology learning resources for publication in support of their new A2 student book. I now also offer online tuition via Skype voice and video call at a discounted hourly rate for block bookings, hence the 25 rate.

Personal Description:
My name is Tim and I'm based in the Caerphilly area. I am happy to work anywhere in Caerphilly, Cardiff, Newport or the Valleys. I am a primary school teacher and have 24 years experience working with children within the age range 6-11.
I have worked in London and in South Wales and have taught in a range of primary schools, teaching children from many different types of background. I have a current CRB check and can provide excellent references.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a primary school teacher since 1986 and have worked across the age range from 6 to 11. I have a good deal of experience teaching children in Year 6 and preparing them for the step up to secondary school. I am able to give tuition in any primary subject but have a specialism in maths as I have been maths co-ordinator in more than one school and have an in depth knowledge of how children learn in this subject and how they can be helped to enjoy their work here and achieve good results. I also have experience of tutoring children in individual sessions and have always been able to help them to improve their standards and become more confident across the curriculum.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very friendly tutor who has always been able to establish a good rapport with children of primary age. I am extremely patient and calm in my approach as a teacher and believe in using humour to help children relax and enjoy learning. I take into account the preferred learning style of the child and tailor all lessons to their needs. I will try to include an element of challenge in all sessions to help children build up their confidence through success on progressively more difficult tasks. I have a huge range of resources I can use to help make sessions interesting and am prepared to be flexible in terms of rates, location of sessions and times.

Personal Description:
Hi there! My name is Will, and I'm a graduate from the University of Cambridge (Christ's College). I studied Natural Sciences, and graduated with a 2.1 MSci specialising in Physics. I studied Maths, Physics and Chemistry at A-levels, and French at AS.
Maths and Physics can be daunting for many young people, yet I believe that anyone can learn to master these subjects if taught to look at the problems in the right way. All that is required is an underlying interest and an enthusiastic teacher!
I work during the week, but I am free in the evenings as well as all day on the weekends.

I am also open to giving INTERVIEW PRACTICE for anyone thinking of applying to OXBRIDGE or one of the many other institutes that demand an interview. Having been in several interviews myself, I can give advice on how to answer general questions, as well as give example questions from my experiences.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored before in my school; I was part of the Mentoring Society from year 11 onwards, in which I taught younger years (especially those taking their GCSE exams). I have also been a voluntary tutor for The Access Project for the past year, tutoring A-Level Physics.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm a very relaxed person, and so I am open to tutoring in many different ways depending on the personal choice of the tutee. I am willing to explain a particular topic, or go through questions that have been answered before the session. However, I would say that working through past papers is usually the most effective way to practice and also identify the areas in which the tutee is having difficulties. My only request is that I'm told beforehand which area/questions/past paper we should work through, to give me time to prepare!

Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Imogen and I'm 23 years old. I am a recent graduate from the University of Kent and completed a year abroad in Paris. I studied French, with modules in International Relations, Politics and German. I previously studied the International Baccalaureate instead of A Levels and whilst doing this tutored a 16 year old girl in GCSE French - she went from a C to an A with just simple tutoring of the basics. I graduated with a 2:1, with all my grammar modules being awarded a first.
My year abroad was spent with a French company, improving my French by being surrounded by solely French speakers! I returned from working and living in the French language feeling hugely confident in my foreign language abilities across all disciplines (listening, reading, writing and speaking).
Currently, I work in construction but use my French to liaise with occasional sub contractors and supply chain. Tutoring is my way of continuing with French before being able to get employed by a French construction company down the line.
I believe that I have a friendly approach to tutoring - and I am confident in my approach with my current 8 and 11 year old students who are mentored in different ways.

Teaching Experience:

As previously mentioned, I tutored a 16 year old girl in GCSE French. Over the 9 month period, we improved on her basic grammar skills and reading and listening skills also. From this site, which I joined in December 2012, I gained one student very quickly and during our 4 months tutoring sessions, she improved her basic understanding tremendously, progressing from a D to a B for her oral exam in April.
My tutoring has continued as part of my job at a school, holding outside the classroom small group sessions.
I am currently tutoring siblings, who are moving to France this year with their family. My approach varies with each of them and I have already seen leaps and bounds of improvement from them both!
My success rate demonstrates my ability to work well as a tutor.

Tutoring Approach:

In terms of my approach to tutoring, I like to assess what the tutee finds difficult and try and work in a different way to how they are accustomed to to see if it helps at all. I draw a lot from my experiences as a student as I have found the ways in which I have been taught very easy to understand. I would like to say that my approach is a lot more suited to children because, like them, I am a student too and I understand what they are coping with and how their mind works. Listening is of key importance and I make sure that I listen to what my tutee is trying to say.

Personal Description:
Hello, I am 21, live in Hull and have been playing the drums for around 5 years. I am currently studying Music Performance at university and have just finished my first year in Bristol. I have lots of experience playing live with various artists and bands. I play many styles and appreciate all music as an art. I mainly play pop, rock and metal but am well grounded in jazz, latin, reggae, drum and bass, blues, hip hop and funk.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching; I started off doing it voluntarily to assist friends but the interest grew and I began getting more and more into it teaching from my home on my acoustic kit. I keep growing as a player and as a teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very passionate about teaching as I believe a good player doesn't make a good teacher. I believe in breaking things down to the simplest level to give the student the best foundation possible. I teach everything from beginner to advanced, all in accordance to want the student wants mostly, then I will create an appropriate plan for he/she. Many students (myself included) have been left disappointed by the lack of passion shown by teachers in whatever subject, which is why I wanted to start teaching in the first place

Personal Description:
My name is Annie and I am a nineteen year old student. I study French and Italian at University College London and am entering my second year. I have just received a high 2:1 in my end of year exams.

Teaching Experience:

As a language student I've done a lot of volunteering, mainly helping out in the younger years' language lessons at school doing oral and grammar work, but sometimes helping out my parents' friends' children in their preparation for GCSEs.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm very enthusiastic about foreign languages and have knowledge of French, Italian and some German. I strongly believe that the world is only as big as the languages you speak! I'm very flexible with when and where lessons take place, though weekday evenings and weekends work best for me. I live in a maisonette in Camden with a light and spacious dining area where it will be possible to have lessons.
I'm prepared to tutor from complete beginner with no previous knowledge up to GCSE level. If you are a student at primary or secondary school, I'm happy to do lessons that help with your school work or target any specific weaknesses you feel you have. Alternatively, I'm also happy to decide what we cover myself. I'll teach oral/conversational classes, vocabulary and grammar.

Personal Description:
I am an Open University student, studying psychology with counselling.

I have a keen interest in teaching and know how difficult and stressful it can be to get the necessary grades. I also know that younger children often tire of learning things that they don't find interesting and have tutored children successfully by relating their interests to what they are studying. I have experience teaching people with learning difficulties.

Teaching Experience:

EAL mentoring
Experience teaching and tutoring KS1
Workshop for KS2 children on how to build a motor vehicle (design, electronics, aerodynamics, etc.)

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring will vary depending on the tutee. While I will make lesson plans, they will be more of a guideline than a fixed plan. I am willing to answer any queries that may arise between sessions and can be contacted by email or text.

Personal Description:
My name is Naomi, I am a recent graduate from the University of a central Lancashire. I graduated with a 2:2 in Children Schools and Families. I have relevant and recent experience with children and young people. I have volunteered in a number of schools as a teaching assistant and up to date with the national curriculum. I am a good listener so can listen to and understand each child's learning style. I can adapt what I know to help your child to achieve the best they possibly can. My aim is to give children confidence in the subjects they are unsure about. Once a child has the confidence they have the ability to reach any target set for them.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a teaching assistant in a number of schools bothe primary and high schools. I have also worked in a special needs school where I learnt a lot about the importance of communication.
As mentioned I have a recent and relevant understanding of the national curriculum so know the subjects and areas children need to strive in.
Although I am not a qualified teacher I am aware of different teaching styles and the importance of giving children confidence to learn.

Tutoring Approach:

1:1 work with children is often needed for children to gain confidence because in a classroom full of 20-30 children can sometimes be daunting and children sometimes lack confidence in asking questions. Therefore not fully understanding a subject. Which is why I feel it is important to guide children into their learning style and help them with topics they are studying in the classroom. They can then take their knowledge into the classroom and apply it to the relevant work.

Personal Description:
Bonjour!

Je m'appelle Annie (I am Annie). I am a private French language tutor.

I teach French from beginners to GCSE level and I am qualified to degree level French. I have been learning French since I was at primary school and love the language and culture.

I achieved an A grade in my A-level oral examination and a high 2:1 (68%) grade in my French grammar exam at university on advanced French grammar. Furthermore, I also received a 1st class grade (73%) on an essay written in French on public policy.

I know the GCSE French syllabus very well and I can definitely help my students achieve the highest grades. I aim to tick the boxes of all GCSE French exams.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching French privately from beginners to GCSE level.

Things covered on the GCSE level exam including:

Personal Description:
I am a Cambridge PhD student studying the fascinating complexity of fish behavior. I am a supervisor in zoology at Cambridge, for which I won the award for best supervisor in the sciences, and have worked as a tutor for all grade levels. I love animals and nature, and write fiction in my spare time. I come from a big family and am used to spending time with children and adults of all ages.

Teaching Experience:

My first formal tutoring job was during my undergraduate degree at Harvard University, where I worked as a peer tutor for biology, physics, and chemistry modules I had taken for my course. Working with peers was an excellent way to build communication skills to best explain complex concepts in a variety of scientific fields. My interests are not limited to science, however- I completed a minor degree in English and earned a certificate in Spanish as a part of my undergraduate education. I had the chance to tutor these subjects (in addition to maths and sciences) as a tutor for Varsity Tutors, a tutoring company in America. I worked for Varsity Tutors for about two years, tutoring students in person near my family home in Chicago for one year and online during the first year of my PhD. I am presently a PhD student in Cambridge, and I began supervising Cambridge students in the fall of 2016. I supervised two modules, both in Evolution and Behavior, and had the wonderful experience of teaching several groups of students for three terms (two courses and revision supervisions prior to exams). Building a connection with these students and watching them develop as scholars and as people was incredibly rewarding. I feel lucky to have taught them, and they nominated me for a Cambridge University Students' Union (CUSU) student-led teaching award. CUSU received about 600 nominations for the student-led teaching awards, and I won the award for best supervisor in the sciences.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor with the Bureau of Study Counsel at Harvard, Varsity Tutors, and as a supervisor at Cambridge, I have found that one of the most important aspects of my role as a tutor is to connect personally with students to tailor my lessons to their learning styles and interests while bolstering their self-confidence. I have received some touching messages from parents of my students reiterating this fact (the students that stick out in my memory are a 14-year-old student I tutored in Advanced Placement Psychology who had become disheartened due to an ineffective teacher, and an 18-year-old basketball-focused student I tutored in English who developed his interest in writing and was considering studying poetry at university). I think that empowering the student to master the material is a very important part of being an effective tutor.
