Personal Description:
I am a graduate in Politics, English and German with an International House qualification to teach English as a foreign language to adults.

Since 2001 I have been engaged on a university research and publishing project, based in London and Cambridge, that charts the reception of British and Irish authors in Europe, from Francis Bacon to James Joyce.

A significant part of my professional role involves editing and proof-reading academic texts, and I'm happy to undertake this for tutees.

I am also a freelance researcher, writer and curator of exhibitions on contemporary social and political cartoons, such as 'Coping with the Relations', commissioned by the Goethe-Institut and British Council as an international touring exhibition. Amongst other publications I co-authored the book *Deutschland und seine Nachbarn* in 2000 as a resource for political education in German schools.

I am an enthusiastic European with a keen interest in global affairs.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring students in English, Politics and German for many years, as well as working as a business language trainer in companies across London.

Previously I taught English, German and Politics in England (GCSE and A-level), and English as a foreign language at all levels in grammar schools in Austria and Germany. I also taught English as a foreign language to trainee German teachers of English and for Academic & Special Purposes (law, business studies, social sciences) as well as British cultural studies at the University of Osnabruck, Germany, for 8 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe patience, appropriate pace and empathetic attention to an individual's learning needs are essential for anyone helping others to understand often complex ideas and concepts. I also believe successful learning results from both the learner's and teacher's motivation, enthusiasm and interest in the subject. These are principles that inform my role as a tutor.

I much prefer one-to-one or small-group tutoring, particularly where if a foreign language is involved. I believe the intensity of experience such interaction provides is the next best thing to direct engagement with a foreign language in the context in which it is naturally spoken. This is borne out by my own experience as a foreign-language learner.

Personal Description:
I am originally from Ayrshire but have spent the last eight years south of the border studying and working. I have worked as an actor, singer and songwriter and continue to do so whilst teaching. I have now moved back to Ayrshire to live and work and continue to be creative.

Teaching Experience:

*Co-founder and Director of a theatre company
*Director of Fringe based theatrical work
*Drama workshop leader
*Drama teaching assistant with final year university students
*Trainee college lecturer

Tutoring Approach:

I am very passionate about what i do and have worked with many different people of a variety of ages and backgrounds. I have studied the works of many theatre practitioners whilst in and out of education, ranging from the naturalism of Stanislavski through to the forum theatre of Augusto Boal, to name but a few. However my goal when teaching is to have a "thinking performer" who knows themselves and the character and connects with what they're doing rather than merely "pretending". I'm an approachable person with a strong work ethic and strive to push someone to reach their potential.

Personal Description:
I've loved Mathematics from as long as I can remember and I enjoy teaching it and tutoring others. I have studied Maths up to PhD level and so am comfortable teaching all levels of Maths. I am friendly and spend time to help my tutees understand the fundamental concepts which they need for problem solving so that they can be successful in applying this knowledge in their exams.

Teaching Experience:

I was a teaching assistant at Strathclyde University for 4 years. In that time, I lectured Mathematics to first and second year University students, organised and supervised tutorial sessions, set and marked assignments/exams and tutored students on a one-to-one basis. I have also tutored my friend's kids who were home schooled and marked work which their parents didn't have the knowledge to mark.
Also have a PGDE(S) in Mathematics and currently teaching within the new curriculum.
Been involved in secondary school teaching since 2011 and currently teach in a private school in Glasgow.

Tutoring Approach:

I find that the most effective way of mastering concepts/tricks is the hands-on approach. So I work with my tutees particularly in areas where they are weak until they have mastered the underlying concept/approach and are able to apply it on their own to similar problems. I am patient and work with you to help you use the knowledge you already have by approaching material from a different angle to what you've maybe been shown.

Personal Description:
I was born into a French-speaking family and have spoken French my entire life. I have a BA from the London School of Economics in French and Linguistics. I have also lived in France for several years. I have taught French privately for over 20 years and many of my students achieve very high standards. I am very dedicated to my students and try and get the best out of them and build their confidence. One mother with five children of differing ages from 6 years old to 18, where the children were attending Harrodian in Barnes said that her children told her I "was the best French teacher they ever had" - that works for me! I can turn the most hopeless student in French into a budding linguist.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching privately French for over 20 years from beginners to University students as well as adults has given me a great deal of experience across different goals and varying levels. I teach spoken French for those who only want to simply speak the language as well as grammar for those who need to take exams. I work with University students to achieve top grades in dissertations and essays or oral exams. One of my recent students was told by her lecturers she would get a 3rd in her degree ended up getting a 2:1 - not bad eh? I love French literature so if you are studying a piece of literature, I will be able to guide you through the book. I sing with some of my students as I find singing is a wonderful way of learning a language especially where vocabulary is limited. Other students need to listen to French radio in order to accustom the ear to current spoken language and we work together to understand what is being said. I will be the best French teacher you will ever have. Try me!

Tutoring Approach:

I begin by assessing the pupils strengths and weaknesses and then plan lessons to suit the individuals needs. The most important aspect is for the pupil to enjoy the lesson so learning French is a pleasure and not a chore. I also spend time teaching exam techniques as these are as important as studying the language itself. I move away from parrot fashion teaching and ensure that the individual has the rudiments of French and is able to create sentences and has the confidence to put pen to paper.

Personal Description:
I am a second year PhD student at the University of Nottingham having completed my integrated masters degree in Mathematics in the 1st Class. In my PhD I am investigating the effect of rotation on vortices in fluid flows. I hope to use my passion for teaching in further education.

Teaching Experience:

My past tutoring experience includes both GCSE and A level pupils helping them achieve the required grades to attend their university or college of choice.

At university I assist in undergraduate problems classes to assist the lectures in answering questions from the students.

I feel my age and recent undertaking of A-level and degree examinations gives a less formal and more comfortable tutoring experience whilst still maintaining a high quality of tutoring and I can understand the problems and difficulties students may come across as I will have hit these problems myself in the past.

Tutoring Approach:

Since I myself have recently completed my degree and not so long ago my A levels I feel I have an up-to-date understanding of these examinations and the perfect exam technique as well as the required academic content. I am able to empathise with students and provide techniques for understanding which worked for both myself and fellow students. Furthermore having taken A level further mathematics I would also be able to offer tutoring for students taking this as a full A-level or AS-level.

Personal Description:
Hi there, I'm Jessica. I am an enthusiastic Biology graduate who is passionate about the subject and have a broad and detailed knowledge of the subject.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience as a classroom assistant in a primary school where I worked with individual students who required additional support. I also completed a 'Communication and Teaching in Science' module at University. This involved spending time within a Primary school, working with small groups on a science project.

Tutoring Approach:

I want to ensure the syllabus is covered and think it is important to identify the areas which are being overlooked either because they are 'boring' or difficult to understand. I aim to help make the subject more interesting and reminding students that there are lots of interesting facts to learn. I studied for 7 years at University therefore have good experience in identifying the key points to remember for exams.

Personal Description:
I am a successful local tutor and teacher with an MA in Education from Oxford Brookes University (2016), a Postgraduate Diploma in English and Language in Education from the University of Reading (2012). I also have a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Secondary - English) from Oxford Brookes University (2007) and a BA Hons in English Literature (2006). I am passionate about my subject and enthusiastic about improving both my pedagogical and subject knowledge. With A Level clients, I often re-read the key exam texts and exam specifications in order to deliver a successful tutorial. For GCSE, I am confident with multiple exam boards but, again, I take a sincere interest in changes to qualifications and specifications. I have recently led a team of ten teachers in our delivery of the GCSE English qualification through WJEC. Part of my role included observing good teaching practice and documenting this for staff appraisals.

Teaching Experience:

I have ten years experience of working in the state secondary sector as a Qualified English Teacher; teaching anything from Key Stage 3 (11 years - 14 years) up to Key Stage 5 (A Level) including GCSE. I currently teach GCSE and iGCSE English at a popular FE college for adults, returning to education, and for full-time learners aged 16+. In addition, I have previously worked as a Learning Support Assistant, at a Catholic primary school in Reading. I have also taught American children how to use movie editing packages, such as iMovie, in Maine, USA.

Tutoring Approach:

The rapport with the parent is as just as important as the tutee. In order to make a success of the tuition, it's paramount to have a good professional relationship with both. I use feedback from the tutee's parent (via a school report) and informal feedback from the tutee to create an Individual Tuition Plan which includes setting three clear targets. Depending on the key stage and ability of the tutee, this can range anything from parenthetic comma use to translating Chaucerian poetry!

As an actor, my passion for language helps me to understand and analyse literature, and I enjoy applying my politics degree to the work of playwrights. Tutoring Approach:

Every student is an individual and learns in a different way. I like to work with the student to identify any blocks that are holding them back; we gain enormous satisfaction from us moving past these together.
I help students develop their confidence in their own abilities through achievement, and I find that this confidence helps them do better than they ever thought they would. The relationship between tutee and tutor is important and I find building trust is essential for success.

Personal Description:
I am passionate about helping people and inspiring them, and I really enjoy meeting people from all over the world and helping them to improve their English and gain confidence. I am friendly and approachable, and have a calm and patient teaching manner. I strive for personal integrity and professionalism.

I really enjoy learning languages myself - I speak French and Spanish and I am keen to learn more languages. I love travelling and have visited many countries. I lived in South America for a short time. I really like learning about different cultures and people!

English is my native language.

Teaching Experience:

I have 12 years experience of teaching English. I have taught in London, New Zealand and Argentina. I have taught general English and business English, and the exams I have taught are IELTS and CAE.

I taught a student in Japan on Skype for two years, so I have a lot of experience teaching online.

I love teaching beginners - if you are a beginner or if you have a friend or family member who is a beginner then please contact me!

Most of my students have been pre-intermediate to intermediate level, but I have taught all levels from beginners to advanced.

Tutoring Approach:

First of all I will find out from you in a free consultation exactly what you want help with and what your goals are for studying English with me. Then I will plan our lessons according to your English needs. Usually in a normal lesson we will have conversation and speaking practise and I will give you plenty of opportunity to speak and practise your English, then I will give you feedback and go through your mistakes with you. I will also teach you new vocabulary and then we will practise this in speaking activities. However, if you are really confident in speaking English and want to practise other skills such as reading then we will do this instead. Usually I teach lessons that incorporate speaking, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading and grammar. I think homework is very important so I will also set you homework to do in your own time.

Writing: if you would like me to correct your writing (for example you send it to me, I mark it and send it back), my fee for this is 14 per hour, plus Paypal fees.

Personal Description:
I am a recent graduate from Bath Spa University with a first class BA (Hons) in Contemporary Arts Practice. 2014-2017
I am about to start a Masters at the Royal College of Art in Mixed Media Textiles.

I have been practising art for as long as I can remember, and have been selling and exhibiting my work the last two years through commissions and partaking in group exhibitions.

My practice involves using recycled materials and environmentally friendly techniques which I like to bring forward in the lessons teaching children how to create art from materials already available to them.

I'm a young enthusiastic reliable person with lots of energy and time for children.

Ideally I would like to tutor children around West London as I don't have a car.

Teaching Experience:

I have 10 years childcare experience in which I often partook in creative activities with the children.
The age range I have worked with are between 1-12 so ideally I would like to tutor this age group.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that every child learns differently so my teaching approach will vary slightly from child to child dependent on their interests and what they and the parent would like them to learn.
I feel it is important for the child to be excited about what they are learning and be able to express themselves in our lessons, I will often teach fun exciting activities and skills that are not necessarily taught in school.
My art lessons take on a different alternative approach to typical art lessons, for example learning how to make the materials they are going to use as well as how to use them e.g making own paint as well as many more!
