I'm a native Mandarin speaker. I studied Medicine in a university in China. I then found a job teaching Social Medicine in the University for 15 years (up to the associate professor) before I came to the UK in 2000. I got my PhD in Genetics in the UK, and now working as a research scientist in a hospital.

Teaching Experience:
While my daughter was young, she got a lot of help from me in Mandarin, Maths and Sciences. She is now a year 4 medical student in one of the best Universities in the UK. She got five As (Maths, Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) in her A level study and accepted by Cambridge University.
While I was in China, there was an English teacher (who went to China to teach English in our University). We were friends, I helped him a lot in his Mandarin study. He later registered into a university in Beijing to study Chinese literature. He is very successful.

Tutoring Approach:
Being a teacher for so many years, I know what the students need to get the message and remember it. My opinion is that the students should lay solid foundation on basic knowledge, for example, there are basic rules to do the different kinds of calculations. You must work really hard to remember these rules. Once you get them, you will never forget about them and they will benefit you for the whole life. For Mandarin study, after some basic tutoring, I will introduce some Chinese culture into the tutoring which will make the lesson more interesting and help you to know China more.
