Teaching Experience: I trained as a primary teacher and taught in Key Stage 2 before taking a masters degree and moving abroad. Whilst in Brazil I did a lot of informal teaching across various age ranges and since returning I have taught at secondary level. My greatest success in tutoring was when a would-be teacher passed GCSE maths on the 4 attempt and went on to do a PGCE. |
Tutoring Approach: For children that are struggling with their schoolwork I prefer to use text books from the pupil's school to go over what has been covered in recent lessons. I like to vary the work during my lesson to help maintain concentration and I try to apply key concepts to the child's interests. I believe in paying attention to neatness and correct grammar, and find that children respond well to encouragement and challenges. I haven't yet done any Portuguese tutoring but look forward to the opportunity soon. |

Teaching Experience: As I said previously, I have been doing this student job since I was 18. In Belgium I had an average of 8 students on a weekly basis. I started with one student, and all the others came by worth of mouth communication. The parents of my students and the students themselves are my best references. I love working with younger children. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is very simple. I always work with the student's handbook or notes. The only thing I require is that he or she takes actively part in the tutoring session, and that the notes are clear. I work during 1h sessions, and I prefer to work on weekly terms, unless it is unnecessary. I don't think students can learn a lot with only one session, I think when a student has a problem with a course he or she needs to repeat and exercise. |
