Personal Description:
I am a very experienced teacher, head of faculty, head of sixth form, examiner and writer. I have recently worked for one of the major examination boards on the new specifications for both G.C.S. E and A-Level.

During my career as a teacher I have taught philosophy and religious studies to Advanced level and English, history, religious studies, geography and citizenship to G.C.S.E. I also specialise in developing study skills and examination techniques in a range of subjects. I have prepared VI form students for university and UCAS application, including Oxbridge, and acted as a mentor to new entrants to the teaching profession.

I am a freelance writer specialising in education, social, religious and moral issues and I also create e-learning resources for an international educational e-learning-platform provider.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience at both G.C.S.E. and Advanced level has been extensive. I am an examiner for two major exam boards and have diverse experience of creating original teaching resources tailored to the needs of pupils.

I have spent most of my career teaching across the ability and age range in 11-18 comprehensive schools although I have also taught in the independent sector.

I am also a part-time on-line tutor for one of the Oxford colleges.

I have also served on several different boards of governors as a foundation, teacher and parent governor.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that the key to success for most pupils is to develop their skills and self-confidence to enhance their ability to successfully complete their examination by developing study skills and examination techniques.

My first session with a tutee and their parents is to establish their needs and goals. Together we draw up a plan of the work which we will pursue. This plan will be reviewed regularly and a progress report compiled.

Each of the subsequent sessions comprises of:
review of any homework set
review of any problems which have occurred that week
lesson on a topic previously decided upon
My primary aim is to help my tutees overcome any difficulties which they are having with their work and to help them to achieve their goals both in the short-term and the long term. Secondly, I aim to give my tutees confidence in their own abilities and to help them develop their skills necessary to succeed in their examinations.
Relevant homework is set as a means of reinforcing the development of skills since assessment and feedback procedures largely rely on this.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly and inspiring Tutor who has supported students of all ages and abilities in achieving their maximum potential.

I am able to adapt my expertise to each student's needs thereby extending their confidence in their own abilities.

Teaching Experience:

My main subjects are English and Mathematics, as well as entrance test preparation subjects and Sociology.

I have a BA Hons Degree in Social Studies and a PGCE in Primary Education

I am a fully qualified and experienced Teacher and have supported a significant number of students from primary to undergraduate level.

By focussing on establishing a positive relationship with each student, my tutees either achieve or exceed their learning targets.

I am experienced at preparing students for exams, including SATs, GCSEs, IELTs and entrance tests as well as intensive short-term revision work to prepare students for a particular exam such as resits.

I have also supported many students whose second language is English, who may be seeking to improve their communication skills within their workplace or preparing for school exams, as well as successfully preparing many adult learners for the QTS skills tests in Literacy and Numeracy, along with IELTS and iGCSEs.

I also offer a proofreading service to under-graduate and post-graduate students who are studying a variety of subjects from Business Management to Chemistry.

Here are a few of the comments that have been made by some of my students:

After a short period of intensive GCSE Maths revision, Mr Brown commented, "Great tuition, made a big difference to my son's exam results."

Mr Jones, an adult learner, recently commented that, following a course of tuition in Literacy skills, he "now feels more confident in writing, spelling and grammar" and that "communication via email and telephone was excellent".

Mrs Barker has also recommended Tina, stating that "Tina has achieved excellent results for our daughter in GCSE English" and that she is "personable and has high integrity".

Mrs Smith claimed that her 7 year old son, Josh, "has gained in confidence and ability since receiving tuition. He has enjoyed his sessions and has felt more able to tackle challenging work."

Tutoring Approach:

I am passionate about both high quality teaching and learning and would describe myself as an enthusiastic, dedicated and professional Tutor who has enabled a significant number of students to achieve their maximum potential and boost their grades, often within weeks or a few months.

When working with a student, I believe it is important to provide a friendly and informal learning environment so that they can develop and learn at their own pace. While my approach is calm and encouraging, I also ensure that activities are stimulating and based on the student's age and abilities so they can enjoy and extend their learning and understanding at their own pace.

Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Tom and I currently work as an English, maths and ICT teacher at a local college. I hold: a first degree in Sociological, Historical and Literary studies, with Honours (BA Hons); a Master's Degree (MA) in Sociological Criminology and Criminal Justice; a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (P.G.C.E); a TEFL certificate (teaching English as a foreign language qualification); and I am a qualified assessor (TAQA). I live in Fleetwood with my wife and family and my interests are football, non fictional reading, critical writing and critical discussion.

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach English but also, some maths and ICT. I have previously worked at various colleges across the North West teaching these subjects as well as sociology. I have about five years private tutoring experience and enjoy both classroom and one to one teaching.

After graduating with a Masters Degree, I decided to embark on a teaching career, for which, I love. With having all the skills and knowledge in place, I wanted to give something back and help others succeed.

In addition to working at key stage 3 and 4 in an English setting and up to A level in sociology, I have over two years experience working in a Primary School setting. I love working with all ages and all levels of education.

Tutoring Approach:

With my level of knowledge and current experience, I would be ideally suited to improving your child's English and sociology grades up to GCSE level for English and A Level for sociology. With my in depth knowledge and developed writing skills, coupled with my teaching and learning qualities, I will be able to focus on areas of the curriculum that your child falls short in.

Focusing on improving your child's underpinning core knowledge, such as spelling, grammar and punctuation, I will also increase their capacity to internalise information due to my enthusiastic, friendly and easy to get along with style. The key to actively engaging learners to improve their grades is to: provide enjoyable lessons; set achievable targets; and give good, honest feedback. If learners enjoy themselves, know what they are required to do and how to do it, they progress!

If your child struggles to express themselves through their work, homework or coursework/ essays, or struggles to get motivated to complete tasks, I can help improve their enthusiasm, enjoyment and essentially their grades. My learner orientated approach helps to develop the ability to organise and structure work, improve grammar and punctuation and broaden creative output. Further to this, I also like to show learners how to self motivate and to manage time more effectively when embarking on homework or coursework, which is essential to further progression.

My methodical, approachable and friendly style, coupled with my results orientated approach, is suitable for learners of all ages (including younger children and adult learners), which in turn will aid development in other subject areas. Furthermore, I am TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) qualified, so I am also skilled in teaching learners English who speak English as a second/ foreign language.

Personal Description:
I am a First Class Psychology and Sociology graduate from the University of Cambridge (2012-2015).

Teaching Experience:

I undertook a 6 month teaching placement in Port Elizabeth, South Africa at a mixed secondary school in 2012. Here I taught students from ages 12-19 in both English Language & Literature, and Life Orientation.

Since leaving university I have run numerous study technique sessions with students of all ages. In addition, I regularly tutor various students at both A-Level and GCSE in a variety of essay based subjects.

I have also run workshops and seminars at secondary schools, colleges, and universities to teach students how to study more effectively through mastering their mindset.

Tutoring Approach:

I specialise in study skills and techniques after undergoing a dramatic transformation in how I approached studying myself during my third year of university. After two years of being a low-mid 2i student at Cambridge I changed my entire approach to study through developing a number of study tips/tricks/hacks rooted in the science of Positive Psychology.

Students who often need tutoring are not those lacking in intelligence. For many not reaching their true potential it is their mindset and approach to learning that lets them down.

This is where I come in- I share my story of how in my third year I actually started working fewer hours, stopped getting stressed out, and completely changed my relationship with learning and education.

My tutoring is just as much about coaching- the last thing a student wants is another educator telling them what to do. I simply provide them with the tools to make dramatic changes and challenge them to apply these techniques themselves.

Areas I specialise in include:
- Fostering Positive Study Habits
- Eliminating Distractions & Increasing Focus
- Stress Reduction & Redirection
- Mastering Time Management
- Conscious Note Taking
- Perfecting Exam Technique
