Personal Description:
I am only taking on a small number of students this year. My skill set is best suited to students who are not reaching their optimal potential because of emotional stresses at home or school, or because the teaching is inadequate at school

My background in counselling helps me build rapport and bring out the best in students who have had emotional problems at school.

I am concerned with education of the whole person, rather than cramming in knowledge just to get through that exam.

I have experience of teaching both in schools, colleges and universities and bring a depth of understanding to my work with people from nine to ninety.

I have four grown up children.

I have worked in 3 of the four top universities in the UK. I am involved in educational projects in a number of schools.

Teaching Experience:

BA Hons. PGCE 1974. I have taught in primary and secondary schools, as well as sixth form colleges and universities, including Oxford and the London School of Economics.. I have also taught in private schools and been a director of a school of counselling and psychotherapy. I have taught psychology at Abingdon and Witney College, and poetry in many Oxfordshire Schools. I teach poetry short courses for Oxford University at the Ashmolean museum. I teach both GCSE and IGCSE courses.

Tutoring Approach:

I will always do my best to help a student improve their exam performance, using my wide knowledge of psychology and counselling/coaching skills, as well as my subject knowledge. I most enjoy working with students who want to gain a deeper understanding of their subjects that will be of use to them in their real lives, rather than just to get through an exam. I am very good at building a rapport with students, and finding a way to bring the best out of their skill set.

Personal Description:
I live in Cheshire and have two children. I enjoy camping, the outdoors & the countryside in general. We like to travel around the UK, especially Scotland & Southern Ireland. I have enjoyed being successful professionally & in my academic career & I am always looking for new opportunities to make the best use of the skills I've developed over the years. I enjoy working out and train most days. I have an interest in numismatics (coins and paper money).

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching in Further & Higher education for the past 22 years & I am Head of Subject & Senior Lecturer at a College with Beacon status in the North West. My results are 10% above national benchmark & I am an examiner with a leading examination board. Last year, I carried out some regular private tuition & was able to turn E grades into A grades at A2 level. This was very satisfying for me & the student concerned was able to go on & take a degree in Law, something he wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. I have been specialising in online teaching since 2009 and have been supporting A level, Undergraduate and Ph.D students in order to maximise their academic potential and their summative grades. Don't wait until September to contact me, get ahead now.............Julian

Tutoring Approach:

I like to treat every student as an individual & seek to respond to their individual learning needs. I offer a very reliable, high standard of service & see us as working together to achieve a common objective, that of success in the summative examinations. Being an examiner for sociology is also a real advantage for my tutees too. More recently, I have been working with Nelson Thornes and AQA to provide 50 online Sociology learning resources for publication in support of their new A2 student book. I now also offer online tuition via Skype voice and video call at a discounted hourly rate for block bookings, hence the 25 rate.

Personal Description:
I graduated from the University of Oxford in 2011 with a degree in Experimental Psychology, and received a Masters in 2015. I have been tutoring for more than 5 years, and run a company focused on inspiring students to reach their potential through study techniques based on neuroscientific evidence. This involves delivering interactive workshops for students in schools and colleges across London.

I love teaching and thrive on the satisfaction of helping a student reach their goal; I welcome students of all abilities, motivation levels and confidence levels. What sets me apart from most is that as well as tutoring my students, I take the role of a mentor, to motivate, encourage and guide them towards success. My students also benefit from my knowledge of study skill techniques, which I integrate into my teaching to maximise students' memory retention.

For students applying for Oxbridge, I am able to provide valuable advice on interview techniques and personal statements, as well as provide contacts to graduates from Oxford University from a range of subjects. I am also able to tutor students for entrance exams e.g. 11+.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored extensively for over 5 years at Primary, GCSE, A-level, and Degree level with excellent results. I have had students move up by up to 4 grade boundaries at both GCSE and A Level; for the 11+ I have helped students secure places (including scholarships) at excellent institutions such as Dulwich College. At degree level, my Psychology students have achieved 1sts and 2:1s. I am happy to provide references on request!

Tutoring Approach:

My first step is always to assess exactly where my student is at so that I can plan the content for sessions accordingly and make sure that they get the best out of each lesson. If there are any gaps in the foundations of their knowledge we can then attack these head on. My approach is thus very organised and tailored to the specific needs of the student, with small goals set per session alongside a long term goal to work towards. I always ensure that my lessons are engaging, and work towards building a good relationship with my students, encouraging them to ask questions without any hesitation. I adapt my approach depending on my students' learning style as I feel this is the key to successful teaching.

At GCSE and A Level, my aim is always to make sure that students are completely familiar with the subject specification and assessment objectives as this dictates exactly where they can pick up most marks. Completing as many past papers as possible is also a step in the right direction, alongside completing assignments set by myself. I always give very detailed feedback so that my students know exactly where they can improve, and how to apply it to their work going forward.

My approach for students studying Psychology at degree level depends on what is required. Most students require guidance with essays, reports, dissertations and write ups; I usually go through the assignment with the student giving valuable, detailed feedback on what can be improved and exactly how they can go about doing so. This can involve several redrafts until the work has been completed to the students' full potential.

Personal Description:
I am Portuguese (although I am proficient in English) and have been living in the UK since 2010, where I have developed my career as a Languages and Education consultant.
I have an enthusiastic approach to teaching as I feel the best way to teach is to adapt to the students' needs and skills and whenever possible will adjust my resources to better suit the pace of the student.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching 1-2-1 since 2006 mostly in languages (Portuguese and EFL) but also Social Sciences, as I have a Master degree in Psychology. I also have experience teaching groups up to 15 students and regularly promote courses run by my local council to adult learners.

Tutoring Approach:

I have an enthusiastic approach to teaching as I feel the best way to teach is to adapt to the students' needs and skills and whenever possible will adjust my resources to better suit the pace of the student.

Personal Description:
I am a 23 year old recent Undergraduate in BSc (Hons) Psychology, currently undertaking an MSc in Family & Child Psychology. Helping the youth has always been an integral part of my life, for example I have volunteered immensely in mentoring students and guiding them towards academic success as well as personal development. I can help with coursework and revision on a variety of subjects, but my expertise is Psychology. Professionally, I am an editor thus am able to proofread, edit and advise on work for greater coherence. Students can expect a high quality service and a friendly approach from me as I like to engage with people, help them to organise, plan and practice. Those with special needs such as dyslexia and Autism can also reach out for help with academic or study skills related support, I would like to say that I have completed a Mental Health course as well as worked with Dyslexic and Autistic young adults which has boosted my knowledge on the barriers faced by such groups of people.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored students for over 4 years, with coursework help and guidance. I am a student myself thus am fully aware of the type of support students require, with a strong will in answering queries so please don't hesitate to ask.

Tutoring Approach:

I provide a friendly and approachable style for students, I can easily connect with you all as I nurture a passion for people. My availability is vast even on short notice, mainly due to the fact that I sympathise with students who often require assistance at late hours of the day such as night time when they may panic. Thus I am here to help calm those nerves and provide support. Students can thus be assure of a prompt reply from me as I keep a close eye on my email/texts, I fully understand that when students need help they often get disappointed as no one answers their queries at odd hours. I have kept my hourly rate fairly low as I'm aware that students are short of funds and so would not like to make support expensive for them, knowledge and expertise should not be made difficult for students than it already is.

Tutoring Approach:

Relaxed and laid back. Tutoring is an addition learning opportunity for young people (or adult learners). Students have to feel comfortable enough to ask for clarification or advice from their tutors.

I can be contacted any time of day and will reply as soon as I finish work. You will always get a response the same day, so if anything changes I'm pretty happy to rearrange :)

Personal Description:
I'm a student heading to The Queens College, Oxford in 2017 to study Classics with an emphasis on Philosophy, my main area of interest. Im the oldest of five children and generally a very patient, bookish person who tends to get on with people well. Throughout my schooling I was told that my goals were unachieveable because of dyslexia, and I have worked hard to prove that to be false, so I am dedicated to helping others when ordinary schooling isn't quite enough - be that to push an A to an A* or pass an exam or just improve skills in any given area.
Outside academics, I play the piano and enjoy spending time with my family and my dogs.

Teaching Experience:

During school I took part in several different tutoring programmes; teaching science master classes to underprivileged 4-8 year olds, tutoring for the 11+ and CE exams, tutoring for GCSE level students in Maths, all three sciences, English, and religious studies, and tutoring fellow AS and A Level students during sixth form. These have ranged from people who want extra revision and marked work before exams to people who are struggling and retaking exams multiple times, to people who are just learning English. In total I have around 150-200 hours of tutoring experience.

I've worked with many people with learning difficulties and disabilities, and am very experienced in finding ways to help people learn and revise. Often people with dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, and other learning difficulties struggle to learn in conventional ways, and having had to be unconventional myself, I'm committed to helping people learn in ways which work well for them. One of my brothers is Autistic and non verbal, and I work with him using his special interests to make the subject engaging and working with text and images.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is centred around the premise that every person learns in a different way, and every person deserves to fulfill their goals and potential.

When tutoring younger children, I make learning fun through games and grounding the work in their interests; for example, when I was teaching English as a foreign language to 4 year old twins, we played games like hide and seek and football, where they would win if they used the right English words.

Of course, every subject requires a different kind of teaching; English language gcse can be practiced with excerpts from students favourite books or writing about favourite tv shows, whereas psychology A Level is largely about evaluative skills, so critical conversations about theories and studies are key. Each subject cultivates specific skill sets, and I aim to work with students on their own weaknesses and help them perfect their strengths; I will mark work and discuss it with them in depth, create handouts and revision notes with them, and work through papers and questions with them.

Personal Description:
I am a passionate, patient and friendly psychology Assistant Psychologist looking to support students in their GCSE and A-Level and level psychology. I appreciate that finding the right tutor, motivation and support can be difficult and therefore will offer the first lesson free as a taster! Having been a student myself, I understand how stressful the period can be - the not knowing which exam questions will arise in the exam, having to retain a host of studies and worrying that you will go blank in the exam. Totally normal worries! However, together we can identify key areas you feel you need support in whether that be exam technique, looking at past mock and/or specimen papers, understanding the assessment objectives in relation to specific questions or simply quizzing if you need a "study partner". There are many forms of support that can be tailored to your needs.

Teaching Experience:

Although I am not a qualified teacher, I have completed degree level poster conferences, internal presentations to peers and lecturers, led mindfulness and relaxation sessions for adults experiencing chronic conditions in an outpatient service and currently co-facilitate an anxiety management group with young people that have eating disorders and self-harming behaviours as an Assistant Psychologist. Essentially, I really enjoy working with people and believe that my clinical and research experiences will enable me to better understand your needs and support you during this period.

I am aware that since completing my GCSEs in 2008 and A-Levels in 2010, the exam specs have changed. For this reason, I wish to tutor GCSE/A-Level students on the AQA syllabus only given the time frame. Please do not hesitate to contact me via email or phone for further details.

Tutoring Approach:

Simply put, I adopt a person-centrerd approach when working with individuals. It is all about what you want to achieve and understanding the information in a way that suits your learning style. For example, I am a visual learner - anything that has colour/structure in the form of a spider diagram suits me very well. We all learn differently and hopefully we can gauge which method suits you best so that you can 1. Retain the information, 2. Enjoy the revision time 3. Achieve the best possible marks 4. Learn in a way that accommodates your skills - REAL! It is time to get "real" you can and will do it!

My aim is to enable students to have the confidence to learn the course content and have the self-belief that they can do this! I would prefer to do tutoring in a public library (if possible) but not in my own home.
