Personal Description:
I am a highly motivated, friendly and professional tutor. I am a Sociology and Psychology Lecturer at an Independent College with extensive experience (over 16 years) of teaching both subjects at A level (AQA specification). I am passionate about my subjects and enjoy working with young people and passing on this passion and motivating them to reach their potential.

My teaching style is very interactive using students' existing knowledge and developing this further. Students are persuaded to stretch themselves and work as hard as possible in order to achieve success.

I have the ability to convey understanding in relation to complex areas of both subjects and I am able to communicate effectively to people at different academic levels and of varying academic ability.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience teaching the AQA specification for both Psychology & Sociology. I have an excellent track record with 70% of Sociology students and 60% of Psychology students achieving grades A-B (June 2016 results).

For the past 16 years, I have also taught private students both subjects at A level on a one-to-one and small group basis. Many of my students have continued to study these subjects at degree level.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is very student-centred, tailored to each student's individual requirements. I tend to use a two-way interactive approach with a focus on problem areas and difficulties that the student may need to work through. I like to use a variety of teaching techniques such as discussions, white board and powerpoint slides.

I believe that in order to achieve success students benefit from learning good exam techniques and also by working through past exam papers and plenty of practice answering exam questions.

Personal Description:
I am a 26-year-old political risk analyst, with a degree in history from Nottingham and a masters from LSE in international relations. I left my job in February because I wanted to see if working in another part of the international relations sector appealed to me more, while I have also applied for a PhD to begin in September at KCL or Oxford. In the meantime, I am eager to help students with school or university difficulties where possible. I am easy-going, down-to-earth and very friendly. I love all sports, but particularly tennis, and I am an enthusiastic traveller.

Teaching Experience:

I have a Trinity Cert Tesol - Teaching English as a Foreign Language qualification and 1 year of teaching experience in Spain, Guatemala and London.

Tutoring Approach:

I have always enjoyed learning because my teachers, for the most part, made it fun so I'm keen to do the same with my students. I don't think anything that's worth studying has to be boring and I'm dedicated to making my students learn almost without realising they are doing it.

Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Kirsten I am a BSc Psychology graduate from the University of Bristol. I am presently studying as a postgraduate in Mental Health Nursing.
I am looking for both secondary school level science/maths/English tutoring roles, adult/undergraduate Psychology instruction as well as any study skill tuition including the 11+ exam.
I am a confident, professional person who is outgoing and highly passionate about education.

I have a large amount of tutoring experience across age/qualification levels, with exceptional outcomes for my tutees in terms of results and confidence. I have had 11 tutees, all of whom improved by 2 grades or more under my tuition; one of whom acheived 98% in their Psychology A-level following combined Psychology and study skills tuition.

I am a fully qualified driver and own a car, being happy to tutor after school at pupils' homes within the Cheltenham and Gloucester area.
Tutoring in Cheltenham or further afield incurs a small petrol charge (3 Cheltenham, 5 further afield).

FOR ONLINE TUTORING - please knock 2.50 per hour off the stated price, but I will ask the admin fee for this site is paid by the tutee.

I will happily provide one-off online sessions 30mins+ to cover individual topics or help with essays/revision. These sessions will be charged at 2.50 less per hour for all subjects.
I will also happily do whole day sessions which so far most individuals have opted to use as multi-subject revision for upcoming exams.

I hold a current DBS certificate on the government update service open for general use and would be happy to supply this to parents/prospective tutees.

Teaching Experience:

As stated above I have had 11 tutees from schools in Oxford, Cheltenham and Gloucester (including the grammar schools), all 4 of my current students are girls studying for a mixture of subjects at both GCSE and A-level. I have had 1 further tutee study with me for the 11+ exam. One of my current tutees is online and we use a combination of skype, dropbox and online whiteboard to facilitate sessions.

During my time at school I was an instructor in the cadets, teaching basic first aid, shooting and RAF syllabus for 3 years to cadets aged 12-18. I have since returned and am now an adult instructor in both the CCF and outdoor education department.

I also have work experience in nursery settings and previous volunteer experience working at a special needs preschool in Cheltenham and would be happy to tutor children with additional needs. My degree specialty is in dyslexia and I am able to provide tailored material, techniques and specialist guidance for individuals with this educational need.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is just to be as flexible as needed, and to tailor my teaching style to the individual.

Whilst my Psychology background means I come with the knowledge of what constitutes an effective learning/revision technique; I appreciate individual differences in style.

I also appreciate that everybody has a different experience and level of skill with technology. Whilst I would aspire to include interactive learning tools that can be extended outside of our sessions, I understand that this is not for everyone and will happily tutor in a more conventional style if this means my student can take more away from our time. Through online access I provide lots of revision and syllabus materials to all my tutees.

At the heart of my tutoring style is to accept that often a lack of understanding comes not from a lack of ability in a subject, but from the explanation that has been given being unsuited to that person. I focus on breaking concepts down to simple and memorable steps/parts and reviewing them until a full understanding is reached. I also feel it is very important not just to have a piece of knowledge, but to both understand WHY something is how it is and HOW it can be applied across subjects/concepts.

Personal Description:
I am currently training to become a Primary School teacher. I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology, this combined with my previous work experience means I'm vastly knowledgeable about how children learn (including those with SEN).

Teaching Experience:

I have worked in primary schools as a 1:1 since the first year of university (2012). I then completed my degree in Psychology and enrolled on a School Direct course (Primary PGCE with QTS). I therefore have experience teaching children with SEN and children aged 5-11.
I have good use and experience of Makaton.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the best approach to any kind of tutoring is one that is tailored to the person. This as well as a good relationship is what I feel produces the best results.

Personal Description:
I am a focused tutor who is extremely passionate about my chosen subjects and I aim to instil the same passion I have in my subjects, into my students. I take satisfaction in seeing students reach their full potential and it is their success which motivates me.

Teaching Experience:

I tutor my younger sister who is preparing for her 11+ exam and I have supported my brother through his GCSEs which shows I can accommodate various age groups. During sixth form I had the role of providing Maths and Psychology support to those in younger years. Even after leaving sixth form, I was approached by students who wanted support in their A-level studies and found that their grades had significantly improved and they claimed I was able to explain concepts in a way which they could easily understand which was something they found difficult at school.
In the past year, I have tutored numerous students, all ranging in age, who can vouch that I have helped them to achieve the results they were looking for!

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is flexible in that I tailor it to meet each student's specific needs. I understand that no two students are the same and so this is reflected in my tutoring approach. I often set students questions to complete or ask them to verbally explain concepts in order to solidify their understanding in the topic and I believe this has long term benefits.

Personal Description:
My name is Kieron, and I am a second year Psychology student. I am achieving first class grades so far, and am holding a number of positions within the University in addition to my studies. These include mentoring, research assistant work, lecturer's teaching assistant, along with student representative work and student engagement officer work.

I believe I can break down topics to easy-to-understand segments, and have experience of working with many different people, of varying levels of proficiency within Psychology.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience of mentoring 1st and 2nd year Psychology students, on a variety of topics such as biological psychology, cognitive psychology, research methods (using spss), and have delivered guest lectures to 1st year students.
I have also assisted in MSc modules in seminars and workshops.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that no topic too complicated when broken down. Even the most complex processes in the brain can be turned into interesting and manageable topics.

As a current mentor at my university, I appreciate the fact that not all students engage with teachers, and so I believe that my approach can bridge that gap. My grades are high and I know what is required to do well in Psychology, and so I can translate that into tailoring my tutoring to only include the things that will result in higher marks and a deeper understanding of core psychological principles.

Personal Description:
FAQs

Which subject(s) do you teach?
I specialise in the humanities, the social sciences, and relevant creative industries up to (and inclusive of) degree level; I'm equipped to teach an array of closely-related topics, at various levels, by virtue of my diverse (academic and professional) background(s).

Tell me about your qualifications.
I hold a (comb. hons.) bachelor's degree-English with Creative Writing, a master's degree-Professional Writing, and currently find myself undertaking a PhD by research.

How much do you charge?
My rate is 20 per hour, irrespective of subject, or level (there is no charge for the first/introductory session).

NB: my service is of no lesser quality than that of tutors whom request in excess of 60 per hour; I simply fail to see a correlation between entitlements to opportunity and financial means.

Where do you teach?
Primarily, I teach from home; however, I also offer online tuition (for those who would otherwise have to travel long distances, or are unable to travel).

When are you available?
I tutor full-time, alongside part-time postgraduate study. My hours are: 09:00-19:00, Mon-Sun.

I currently only have one space between Dec '16-Jan '17, but this may increase to two between Jan-Jun '17.

Which ages and levels do you teach?
KS1 to Level 6 (primary-degree).

Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I'm an enhanced DBS certificate holder, and member of the DBS Update Service.

Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I'm a full member of The Tutors' Association.

Tell me about some of your current students.
Many of my current AS/A2 students are preparing for the January 2017 mock examinations-Psychology, English Literature, Sociology, Philosophy, or a combination thereof.

Teaching Experience:

What kind of experience do you have?
Aside from my experience as an academic tutor (which exceeds four years), I've also served NHS psychiatric services, as a negotiations/conflict resolution tutor: this role involved the design and implementation of dialectical interventions-chiefly, those concerned with emotionally complex situations (e.g. violence and aggression, high-stakes contexts, etc.).

Tutoring Approach:

Describe your tutoring approach.
I'm an experienced tutor, with a conversational approach; one that blends constructivist, cognitivist, and experiential learning theories-i.e., framing new concepts within a student's existing knowledge base, exploring (and adapting to) each student's unique learning style(s), turning theoretical concepts to practical problems, and encouraging self-directed learning (where appropriate).

Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I can facilitate online tuition via Skype, or a similar application. I involve a range of digital technologies (e.g. to annotate scanned written work, design original resources, etc.), with ongoing email correspondence and access to shared cloud storage serving complimentary functions.

Hi,

My name is Adrianne, I live and work in Bristol.

I have held numerous roles in education to date (e.g. LSA, Teacher, Head of Department, Sixth form tutor and Psychologist) and so have a well rounded approach to teaching and learning.

I have studied psychology to both Masters and Doctoral level and so have an excellent understanding of all topics covered in the A level (across specifications) as well as educational theory to help you find the optimal way of learning for you.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified secondary school teacher with QTS and specialise in GCSE and A level.

I have tutored privately for a few years and have done this individually and in group sessions.

Having studied Educational Psychology I am well versed in teaching and larning and apply this to my approach to teaching.

Current DBS
'Outstanding' OFSTED rating.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is flexible and evolves to meet the needs of each student. The sessions can run however you wish them to but broadly I work within a coaching framework, enabling you to achieve independently (required for exams).

Personal Description:
I'm a student heading to The Queens College, Oxford in 2017 to study Classics with an emphasis on Philosophy, my main area of interest. Im the oldest of five children and generally a very patient, bookish person who tends to get on with people well. Throughout my schooling I was told that my goals were unachieveable because of dyslexia, and I have worked hard to prove that to be false, so I am dedicated to helping others when ordinary schooling isn't quite enough - be that to push an A to an A* or pass an exam or just improve skills in any given area.
Outside academics, I play the piano and enjoy spending time with my family and my dogs.

Teaching Experience:

During school I took part in several different tutoring programmes; teaching science master classes to underprivileged 4-8 year olds, tutoring for the 11+ and CE exams, tutoring for GCSE level students in Maths, all three sciences, English, and religious studies, and tutoring fellow AS and A Level students during sixth form. These have ranged from people who want extra revision and marked work before exams to people who are struggling and retaking exams multiple times, to people who are just learning English. In total I have around 150-200 hours of tutoring experience.

I've worked with many people with learning difficulties and disabilities, and am very experienced in finding ways to help people learn and revise. Often people with dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, and other learning difficulties struggle to learn in conventional ways, and having had to be unconventional myself, I'm committed to helping people learn in ways which work well for them. One of my brothers is Autistic and non verbal, and I work with him using his special interests to make the subject engaging and working with text and images.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is centred around the premise that every person learns in a different way, and every person deserves to fulfill their goals and potential.

When tutoring younger children, I make learning fun through games and grounding the work in their interests; for example, when I was teaching English as a foreign language to 4 year old twins, we played games like hide and seek and football, where they would win if they used the right English words.

Of course, every subject requires a different kind of teaching; English language gcse can be practiced with excerpts from students favourite books or writing about favourite tv shows, whereas psychology A Level is largely about evaluative skills, so critical conversations about theories and studies are key. Each subject cultivates specific skill sets, and I aim to work with students on their own weaknesses and help them perfect their strengths; I will mark work and discuss it with them in depth, create handouts and revision notes with them, and work through papers and questions with them.
