Personal Description:
I graduated from Cambridge University in 2008 with a BA in English Literature, and then from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, graduating with a BA in acting, where I was the recipient of the Noel Coward Scholarship from 2008-2011. In July 2011 I won the Michael Bryant Award at the National Theatre, for verse speaking and Shakespeare.

I am a keen writer of prose, poetry and comedy and whilst at Cambridge wrote and directed the prestigious Footlights Pantomime.

Teaching Experience:

Currently tutoring students in: 11+ preparation (all four subjects); lower secondary SEN homework and mentoring; adult EFL learners; lower secondary English; GCSE English; lower secondary maths; Key Stage 1 and 2 English and maths.

During my gap year I spent some time as a special needs classroom assistant, working closely with a child suffering with Asperger's Syndrome. This involved facilitating the social and academic change between primary and secondary education on a one-to-one basis.

Also at this time I ran Welsh language games sessions for primary children in non-first-language schools to improve and encourage their use of the language outside of the classroom environment.

Whilst at secondary school I taught reading skills to children who had low reading-ages.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is tailored to the individual's needs; firstly finding ways of fully explaining a concept, then cementing them with useful and memorable material. My main objective would be to aid the student in understanding not only the specifics of the work but also the broader aspects of it, which I believe provides a truer grounding in - and enjoyment of - a subject. By making the work useful and enjoyable, and by finding alternative approaches to the work, I hope that my tuition will shed new light on subjects for students.

I am particularly interested in Shakespeare, poetry, drama and Dystopian Literature (especially the works of Margaret Atwood).

In London I can reach any areas by Tube or Bus in zones 1-9. For areas outside London I will drive to you. For areas further away petrol costs may need to be covered. Please contact me for further information.

Previous Students' Comments:

'Alex is a truly outstanding and gifted tutor as well as a fantastic person. I have very much enjoyed being her student for over six months, and have not only learnt a lot due to her expertise and impressive knowledge but also grew to love English Literature because of the inspirational nature of her tutoring. Previously, I used to constantly struggle with my assignments since English is not my first language, however, after a few weeks of sessions with Alex my grades and confidence significantly improved. She has an ability to keep the lessons varied and interesting; always well prepared for lessons - she was kind enough to provide me with extremely useful books and personal notes. Her incredible dedication and hard working nature also deserves mentioning as she was willing to help me even in the evenings when I was panicking about coursework and the approaching exams. With Alex's assistance and firm confidence in my ability I have achieved a high A in my A-level English Literature and even a merit award in Extended English. I would enthusiastically recommend Alex to anyone who wants to succeed in their exams and learn heaps of interesting information.

Personal Description:
I am an English graduate of the University of Wolverhampton, where I achieved a BA (Hons) 2:i. I also studied for my teacher training at Wolverhampton, focussing on English and maths. In my spare time I am a writer, and I am currently working on several pieces of work ready for publication. I also intend to become a part time PhD student in September, researching the impact of dialect and accent.

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a teacher in 2009. I worked at Sutton Coldfield College for a year in the Basic Skills department, working with both 16-19 year olds, and also adult students. My work varied from teaching large groups to one on one support. When my training was complete, I began working for myself, teaching all ages and ability, as a personal tutor. I have worked with over 80 children both in my own and their homes. I also worked for OCR as an examiner from 2007-2009

Tutoring Approach:

I offer a student centred approach to tutoring. I complete a diagnostic assessment at the start of any course of tutoring, and then produce an Individual Learning Plan in order to best tutor the pupil. I am friendly and approachable, and ensure that students find my sessions challenging but interesting. I maintain online contact with my students at all times, and make them aware that if they ever have any problems with or questions about the work that I set, they are free to contact me. I am a firm believer that if a student finds a subject enjoyable, then they are more successful.

Personal Description:
Hi, I'm Kevin, a friendly and approachable full time Maths tutor with a patient and empathetic attitude.

I studied Maths at Uni after gaining 11 A grades at GCSE and 4 A grades at A level (Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry) and since then I`ve worked as both an Accountant and an Actuary.

I`m an intelligent guy with the ability to break things down to their simplest forms, but am also patient and a good listener with the ability to understand the way someone else thinks about a problem. I think its these qualities that combine to make me a natural tutor and time after time I`ve experienced that when people have a problem understanding something, its been me they`ve come to.

One of my recent reviews:

"My son was struggling with his AS level maths course having failed to keep up with the pace of new topics
in the Autumn term of 2012. Relatively late in the day before the exams in May 2013 we were fortunate
enough to get Kevin to help him and there was a complete transformation of his confidence and approach
to maths. Before Kevin's intervention my son had achieved U, D and E grades in various mock exams but
in test papers before the actual exams he was getting results right at the top of the grade spectrum. I cannot
recommend Kevin too highly for his technical expertise in the subject or for his organised and sympathetic
teaching approach which was essential in my son's case. Kevin brought my son order and confidence out of
confusion and despair"

Teaching Experience:

I`m experienced and happy to tutor at any level KS3, GCSE, AS and A-level, QTS Numeracy exam (in fact, adult learners in any field needing a maths/numeracy refresher).

I also tutor for business school and foundation year maths exams eg GMAT, NCUK IFY etc. (Please ask for rates for these exams).

Tutoring Approach:

Let me know what your aim is - whether it be to understand that topic/module you 'just cant get!', or to go through past papers, or to learn a whole course from start to finish, and between us we can agree the best approach for you, and prepare a plan of action to ensure you achieve your goals.

Personal Description:
I first became interested in teaching through working as a private tutor with GCSE students, something I am doing since I finished my graduation, training to become a leader in the process. This made me realise I enjoyed working with the people in their learning process, and college experience confirmed tutoring/teaching as a career choice. My subsequent one year PGCE has served further to fire my enthusiasm and prepared me effectively to take responsibility for learners.

I have completed PGCE , a Masters and a BSc in Economics, level 5 Mathematics in Mechanics, numeracy level 1 & 2, Diploma in Computer Science & Application and I am a Certified Internet Webmaster Associate.

Teaching Experience:

I am teaching for last 5 years. In addition, I worked as a Teaching Assistant over two years.I have been privately tutoring primary and secondary maths, A level maths and Economics on one-to-one basis since 2003. My academic education and teaching practices have given me a good understanding of the curriculum and of what makes effective teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I make a conscious effort to ensure I am not just catering for visual learners like myself, but try to see lessons through other learners' eyes. For example, to introduce pictograms to numeracy entry level class, I got the learners to create 'human pictograms' arranged by name length, pets, eye colour, etc. and then transferred that information as pictograms to the board. Kinaesthetic learners were thereby catered for in the physical movement and manipulation, visual learners in the pictograms created on the board and audio learners as we discussed and interpreted the graphs.

I have in particular come to understand the value of sharing learning objectives and success criteria with students. Knowing exactly what is expected and how they can achieve allow learners to focus more clearly on tasks.

I feel it is important to make learning interesting and creative, and one way to achieve this is using real life example; this allows learners to explore and understand situations and express feelings, thoughts and emotions. An example of how I have successfully used real life situation was with a GCSE class, working out the area of the classroom to decide the correct amount of carpet needed for the classroom. I gave the students measuring tape to measure the length and width of the classroom. They were incredibly enthusiastic and threw themselves into the task. They found this a fun, enjoyable and worthwhile learning experience, which enabled them to better understand the situation and empathise with those concerned.

Personal Description:
As a mature bilingual (Russian native) person with degrees in Business, Chemistry, IT, completed in different countries with reach experience in teaching at different levels from the nursery to adult.
I am looking to pursue a new challenge in a position where motivation comes from significant and visible improvements in your status and visible, clear performance targets.

Teaching Experience:

I have teaching experience in Chemistry, Maths, Physics, Biology, Russian. But I do prefer to teach Maths or Russian.
As a teacher I use diffident techniques or methods (depends from the age, level of schooling, etc) to raise confidence with the chosen subject and draw the best abilities from a student.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in a subject. My approach varies depending on the student's requirements and learning style. My teaching style is based on inspiring students to think for themselves, using real-world examples where possible. I begin from topics the students are comfortable with and move increasingly towards more complex areas as their self-confidence builds. I use questions and homework to check understanding constantly.

Personal Description:
I am currently a third year Mathematics student at the University of Warwick where I am enrolled for a four year Master of Mathematics course.

I completed my Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, Philosophy and General Studies A Levels at The Sixth Form College, Farnborough.

I studied for my GCSEs at Fernhill School in Farnborough.

I am available to tutor during School and College holidays.

Teaching Experience:

While at College, I became a peer tutor in the maths department, spending weekly lunchtimes helping students who were struggling with their work. I greatly enjoyed being able to help, especially when my tutees informed me that they would not have been able to achieve their grades without my help.

While at University, I joined a volunteering scheme to tutor Secondary School pupils in a classroom environment which I did weekly during term time. Both the pupils and teachers were grateful for my help and I enjoyed being able to explain mathematical concepts from a different perspective in order to help the pupils to better understand the topics.

Tutoring Approach:

I find that the most effective approach is for my tutee to come to me with some questions that they are not sure how to complete in order for us to work through them together and branch out into explanations of any problem topics. In the case where a whole topic/module is unclear I can prepare some material to cover during tutorials.

The most important thing for me is that this should be discussed before the tutorial to allow me to prepare material and to avoid wasting valuable time during the actual tutorial session.

Personal Description:
Hi, I a student at Imperial College London, currently going to my third year of Bionegineering. I have been told that I am a very dilligent and hardworking student, and am very passionate about eveyrthing I do.
On the academic side of things, I believe that I have gone through the rigorous education system and passed with flying colours, which are clearly shown by my results. I obtained 11 A*s for the IGCSE examinations, a score of 43 out of 45 for the International Baccalaureate, and also first class honours for both of my years at Imperial College.
Furthermore, I believe that I would make an excellent teacher, as I will find the time to make sure that you understand even the most convoluted problems. I have helped many friends throughout college and university with their work, and they all seem to understand what I am explaining to them.

Teaching Experience:

I volunteered as a science and math teacher at an orphanage for a month, and I`ve also tutored piano to a few student for a period of three months.
Furthermore, I've also mentored a few friends through high school, college, and university, and they have always managed to grasp the concept that I explain to them.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is simple: I would normally assess what my student knows, and try to explain things in terms of the things that he/she does know. I believe that this enables the student to clearly understand the subject better.
Furthermore, I myself have been stuck on a subject, unable to understand what do next. However, once the material has been properly explained to me in a more understandable and creative frame of mind, I would suddenly be able to grasp this complicated subject. Therefore, I would employ this similar method of having a creative frame of mind to be able to better understand the subject.
