Personal Description:
I am passionate about the subjects I tutor in and education in general. Education forms the foundation for freeing us from bigotry and ignorance, makes us better people and permits us to live richer, better lives. Knowledge is liberating and my subjects especially open many doors. They are not easy and require a willingness to work hard, but I strongly believe that anyone can get to grips with them if given the correct guidance. Most often the problem is not the student but a poor teacher, unresolved conceptual difficulties or lack of motivation. I want to fix these issues for you.

I used to work as a research physicist at Cambridge University in an indefinable capacity. I had several years of poor physical health (fit and healthy now) that made funding an issue, so I was an unofficial PhD student researching quantum computing and foundational issues in physics.

I have always have had a dual interest in the arts and philosophy, literature in particular. I've written a novel and several full length plays as well as directing at the student theatre in Cambridge and making short films. I recently decided to form my own film production company and work full time as a writer and director for films and plays. Our first short film is in production and we are applying for funding for a feature.

I'd say my approach to education is rigorous, highly intellectual and what one might term renaissance in approach. I'm interested in all aspects of education, and how our disparate academic disciplines connect which is somewhat antithetical to the modern approach to education but just the sort of thing one needs to get into Oxbridge and the like.

Why is tutoring important to me? Firstly, I feel it is my responsibility to pass on the knowledge and skills I have attained; secondly, I find it satisfying to help others learn and achieve what they did not think possible, regardless of their ability; and finally, I think one of the best ways to assess your own understanding of a subject is to teach it; we learn the most about our areas of expertise when we try convey their concepts and methods to an audience.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored many (over 100) students privately over the past six years, improving their results in all cases where the students have followed my advice and worked hard

I have experience of teaching children as young as five through to graduates and am happy to work one to one, in small groups or in a classroom.

I also help set up and run and small charity to improve the educational standards of recent immigrants in inner city London where I taught all ages of students.

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient and I persevere. I am happy to tutor people across all ranges of ability but i expect you to work hard and follow my advice.

My tutoring includes:

- free initial consultation with needs assessment and lesson
- encouragement of free and critical thinking
- varying teaching methods depending on what the student is most receptive to including: problem based learning, discourse, traditional exercises, experiments, lectures
- exam preparation
- confidence building
- resolution of conceptual difficulties
- helping with homework
- homework marking
- undergraduate and postgraduate application advice
- coaching for Oxbridge entrance including the STEP papers
- interview advice at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- email contact throughout the week to resolve your problems as an when they arise
- group tuition

Please note (a) while I am based in Hackney, I will cover East, central and South London; (b) I can offer reductions for group sessions.

Personal Description:
Active family man, who will travel to venues (within reason!)
Prefer to hold 1:1 sessions but will work with groups of pupils too.
Very enthusiastic and always think outside the box, if you are stuck with an idea or principle I may have an alternative model or way to explain it!

Teaching Experience:

12 years of teaching Physics and Science
7 Years as Head of Physics in a very successful school in cardiff

I am currently tutoring in the following subjects:
OCR 21st Century Science Core and Additional GCSE
OCR Gateway Science Core and Additional GCSE
AQA Core and Additional GCSE
WJEC Core, Additional and Seperate Science GCSE
WJEC, OCR and AQA Maths GCSE
OCR AS and A2 level Physics
WJEC AS Level Chemistry
WJEC AS/A2 Level Physics
AQA AS/A2 Physics
Many of my students are currently in year 11 - so by June I will free up a lot more time!

Tutoring Approach:

Will discuss first with the pupil about areas of difficulty
Use syllabus and extract the problems that the student needs to understand
Devise a plan/series of lessons to highlight and focus on the problem in hand, with setting small problems and exercises to be completed. Will also expect the pupil to obtain past papers and bring home material from school to aid the process of discussion.
Hopefully within a few sessions the major problems will be ironed out and confidence will be improved.

Personal Description:
I am a former student of Peter Symonds College, Winchester, studying a BSc. Human Physiology degree at the University of Portsmouth. Having attended Hamble Community Sports College in Hamble, I sat my GCSE exams in the summer of 2009, achieving 5A*s and 9A grades, the top of my year. My Mathematics and Statistics GCSE (taken a year early) were the highest the school had ever achieved, both gaining an A* (99.5% and 100% respectively). I studied Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry at A2 level - having completed Psychology in my AS year. I now study BSc. (Hons) Human Physiology at the University of Portsmouth, and would love to continue tutoring Maths during my time here.

Teaching Experience:

During my GCSE preparation period, and during the exam time also, I tutored several students in my year and below for Mathematics and Statistics, alongside their current teaching at school. I have also, however, given tuition to other adults, most of whom were taking their Mathematics GCSE as an extra qualification in order to get a promotion at work. I would be very willing to do any type of Key Stage 2, 3 or GCSE Mathematics or Statistics teaching for a person of any age.
I have now taught many students, ranging from ages 7 - 18, and all of those which have sat exams have at least achieved the grades they were after. I have been used as both a top-up to class teaching, catching up on lessons missed, and as building upon old Maths skills that need refining. I have also helped individuals gain much needed confidence in their own skills.

Tutoring Approach:

Mathematics being a specific passion of mine, I encourage students to apply their own knowledge to the question, before adding any new information. By showing proof of how a calculation or question works, I believe that anyone can grasp a method if they are shown the reason behind its usage. I believe I can offer an alternative to the class driven method of teaching, and allow students to gain aptitude in spotting the need for a calculation just by reading the question, and hopefully then on to creating their own calculations and solutions! I also aim to make a heavy question of 5 or 6 marks appear to be just a group of smaller questions, making each mark easier to get. I've been teaching for four years now and I've seen many students suffer from a lack of confidence in their own ability, and I always ensure that not only does the person have core, and advanced knowledge, but that they have confidence in the fact that anything can be achieved!

Personal Description:
Looking for a reliable tutor in Maths or Science?
I am a first year PhD student in Cambridge University, currently doing research in Biotechnology.
I previously studied in University College London, where I did MSc Biochemical Engineering, and before that King's College London, where I did BSc Medical Biochemistry.
Since secondary school, Maths and the Sciences have always been my strengths, and I am lucky to have been able to apply both areas in my past and present degrees.
I prefer to tutor at GCSE level, but if requested, I can tutor at A-Level or IB level too.
Besides English, I can speak Cantonese Chinese fluently, and a little bit of Mandarin Chinese.

Teaching Experience:

Back in school, I was a Maths and Science Prefect, so I had experience teaching pupils in small groups and on an individual basis. In Maths in particular, friends often approached me to explain things that they did not understand. When the teacher was absent, I would often be urged to stand in front of the class and teach! I also have experience tutoring pupils on a one to one, weekly basis.

Tutoring Approach:

Every student's needs are different and I will tailor my teaching style accordingly. I believe understanding is the best approach to learning and teaching. There's no point in just memorising things if you don't understand where they came from. I explain things in such a way that it is easy to understand, and I am very patient. You will not be disappointed!

Personal Description:
I am a qualified primary school teacher in my 30s. I am friendly, patient and approachable and enjoy helping children with their learning. I am able to provide help with KS1 and KS2 English/Literacy (reading, writing, spelling or a combination of these), and KS1 and KS2 maths. I particularly work with children who find the subject difficult and would like a little extra help and children who have specific special educational needs. My specialist subject is history and am happy to provide support for this subject at primary level also. I do not tutor for school entrance exams.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked in education for 10 years, as a class teacher in Years 3 and 5, a museum teacher and currently as a Year 5 and 6 teacher in a village school in the Forest of Dean. I have been home tutoring for three years. The children I have tutored have gained in confidence, improved their skills and moved up groups in school within months.

"We can't thank you enough for all the help and guidance you have given H during the time you have taught him." (Parent)

"Thank you for helping me get better at maths and litercay. Since you have been helping me I have moved up a set to a better class. I am pleased about this, as now I feel more confident." (Year 5 pupil)

Tutoring Approach:

I believe learning should be fun, active and relevant to the child's interests and needs. I tailor lessons to the child's abilities, learning styles and interests, and include suitable levels of challenge to help them progress. I believe praise and encouragement is conducive to success and in raising a child's confidence if they are struggling. I am used to working with a wide range of children who have different abilities and interests, and can quickly assess the level they are working at and tailor their learning to suit their needs and interests.

Personal Description:
As an educator and enthusiastic learner I always aim to engender a love for learning in those that I work with, regardless of level or subject. I have a strong background in education as a participant, lecturer and mentor working primarily with older students although through my experiences as a hockey and swimming coach I have worked with individuals from the age of five upwards. I am a published writer and qualified journalist with excellent language skills which are directly transferable to all elements of education.

As a motivated individual, I aim to get all students to want to achieve and perform academically to the best of their ability.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my Professional Graduate Certificate in Education with the University of Bedfordshire in 2012 whilst working as a full time lecturer in further and higher education where I volunteered for one year and taught for two. During this time I was personal tutor to 60 Level 3 students, and responsible for their welfare and setting their educational goals. I also taught various subjects, including functional skills maths and English, covered lessons with students from different academic levels and provided support lessons to students as they completed coursework. Since then, I have worked in a top state secondary school teaching PE and working with children aged 11-18.

I have also worked with children from the age of three upwards through my experiences as a swimming teacher and coach, and have worked with groups of performance athletes on honing specific skills. The range of children I have worked with through all educational experiences require communication to be adapted and different teaching methods to be used, all of which I am competent at and able to use in all manner of settings.

I have been tutoring since October 2011, working with students of all abilities and from Key Stage 1 through to A Levels. Students I have worked with have gained excellent results in exams, with all A Level students getting into university. Students at primary level have moved up the national curriculum levels faster than their peers and have a lot more confidence in their work and ability after I have worked with them. I also have experience working closely with children who are dyslexic and I have a number of strategies that I employ to help them achieve and gain confidence in their school work.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to provide an individual approach to learning depending on the learning style and preferences of the individual. I firmly believe that students should be involved in the learning process to improve retention and understanding of information and help them apply everything learnt practically. My aim is not for students to retain information simply for the purpose of passing an exam or completing coursework - it is to help students gain an understanding of a subject so it benefits them through life. Through my experiences as a teacher I have found the words of Confucius to be true of the learning process: "I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand."

Personal Description:
I am a young spanish guy living in London, i came to this city to improve my English because im studying to be a teacher (English specialty). Its a 4 years degree in the International University of La Rioja (Spain) and i complement my studies working part-time in a famous clothing store.
Five years ago i finished my Economics degree (4 years) in University of La Corua (Spain) and also i did a course about Stock Market Analysis in University of La Corua. I received a State scholarship to work in an Italian international company, where i had the chance to learn Italian as well. I did an Italian course in the Tourism School of Rimini (Italy).
I decided to star my teacher degree and change my personal career because i feel that its my vocation, i love to learn about everything and have the chance to pass on my knowledge to others. Its something really pleasant.
As additional information i can say that im a quite person, very patient and i love the sports, im a sportsmen and i did the course to be a monitor leisure activities which has given me the opportunity to deal with many children and teach them so many different activities such as: Archery, kayak, canoeing and rowing...
Other information of interest is that i was football coach during 6 years in a Spanish football team, dealing with children between 5 and 12 years old. It was a good experience to learn how i can motivate the children to achieve their objectives.

Teaching Experience:

Ive been working as a Spanish teacher in a language academy during 6 months, teaching people from Germany, France, and UK... (Adult people)
Also I've worked in a Primary School during 1 year as an English teaching assistant, teaching children aged between 3 and 9.
Apart from that i worked as a private tutor teaching different subject such as maths, English, economy, geography, history and Spanish. Teaching to students between 6 and 15 years old.

Tutoring Approach:

About my teaching philosophy, i believe that the student has to understand the problems and no just memorize. I always try to explain the subjects adapting the concepts to the real life, like that, the student will remember better the explanation.
For language classes i try to combine grammar, vocabulary and conversation. The conversation is one of the most important part to gain confidence and to speak fluently another language.
I always try to motivate the students to face the subject like something interesting and funny for them.
Concerning my availability im available Monday to Friday after 4:00 pm and weekends could also be negotiated. Im glad to tutor in my home or commute to your place or find another location.

I have attended public school in my country and I graduated with the grade 19 and 7/11 out of 20. The fact that I am studying law for 2 years until now made me able to learn fluent English as well. I have taken 3 A Levels: Mathematics with A, Accounting with B and Ancient History with C and 2 IGCSEs in English and French. Moreover, I have completed the LCCI LEVEL 3 in Accounting with Distinction and I have passed the DELF-DALF French examinations in Units: A1, A2, B1. I have taken the 8th Grade in Classical Ballet in Royal Academy of Dance with Merit, Grade 7 in Piano and Grade 5 in Music Theory in Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music. As a person I am very organised person and I enjoy cooperating with others as a part of a team. I have participated in several extracurricular activities during my high school years. I have volunteered at Kenthea's Program at 'Teenagers in Prevention from Drugs' and at Barretstown camp developing my social skills. I have attended KPMG placement programme as a summer intern and a summer internship at 'Paul G. Efthymiou Lawyer and Legal Consultant'.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience is limited to tutoring younger students as a university student, however I have tutored younger students (up to the age of 18) with their homework and with their yearly exams. All my teaching experience has been volunteering.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that it would be easier for me to approach younger students in a more friendly way due to young of my age. I am planning to help students with whatever they need in order to improve their study skills. I am willing to prepare appropriately for each lesson in order to be ready to answer all of their questions. I will make sure that each student understands fully the syllabus before moving on.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly and supportive tutor and have an Oxford University Mathematics Honours Degree (2.1) and teaching qualification (PGCE - secondary maths).

Teaching Experience:

I have 10 years of secondary school maths teaching experience, of a wide range of ages (11-18) and abilities. I have also tutored for several years, and have achieved very good results both at school and privately.
I tutor Key Stage 3 / GCSE / A - Level Core and Mechanics

Tutoring Approach:

I adapt my tutoring to the pupil, and have a caring, patient approach. I want my students to enjoy their learning and gain confidence in the subject, and can help with exam technique and preparation, or just general learning of mathematical concepts and procedures.
