Personal Description:
Hello,

My name is Ernie. I am currently studying for an MEng degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Loughborough University. I am now in my third year of the course, having spent the past 15 months on placement at a class leading automotive manufacturer developing software and hardware driving simulator solutions.

As a result of my studies and industrial experience, I have become proficient in advanced electronics and ICT skills as well as having excellent team building and interpersonal skills.

I feel that I would be particularly well suited to any GCSE or A Level students who may be looking to undertake a degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Science, as I have experience in the admissions process and can assist with personal statement and CV writing specifically for these areas.

I can tutor in the Loughborough area, within 3miles of the town centre. I can travel further afield but these sessions would be subject to a small travel expense.

Teaching Experience:

2006-2008: Assisted in Years 9-11 classes, helping students in a range of subjects including Science, Mathematics, French and ICT.

2005-2008: Ran lectures for small groups of Air Training Corps cadets in a range of subjects resulting in a series of examinations which lead to a BTEC in General Aviation Studies.

2010-2011: Ran training seminars whilst on placement relating to the usage of driving simulator capabilities.

2012 - Produced and taught a one day intermediate training course on the Python programming language for colleagues.

2013-2014 - STEM Ambassador

2013-2014 - Produced and taught a number of courses for colleagues ranging from a 1hr session on AGILE development to a 2 day introduction to software engineering.

Tutoring Approach:

I enjoy helping others learn, and particularly enjoy taking a practical approach when teaching technical subjects. As a result, the tutoring sessions will hopefully be a bit different from traditional ones, and therefore may allow the student to take in the lessons more readily.

My fee is 20-30 per hour. This is negotiable on the level of Maths and number of hours required. I'm able to provide excellent references, qualification certificates and CRB upon request.

Outside my field of study, I am a keen artist and have enjoyed travelling to countries such as the US and Japan.

Please contact me on to arrange a suitable time and date.

Personal Description:
I'm currently in the final months of an Astrophysics Ph.D. at Imperial College London where I'm studying the role of galactic collision in the evolution of galaxies. My academic and scholastic career has covered a broad range of fields within the scientific spectrum.

I've studied Maths, Physics and Chemistry at University and passed the International Baccalaureate (the European equivalent for A-Levels) for each of them with full marks.

I'm a native Italian speaker and I studied Italian literature for 5 years.

Over the last 5 years, teaching has been a key component of my working week.

Teaching Experience:

Supervised student during her Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (June 2012 - August 2012)

Coursework demonstrator in Quantum Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Fourier Transform, Electromagnetism, Electron in Solids, Relativity (October 2008 - June 2011)

Tutored 4 middle school children during my high-school years (2001-2004)

Tutoring Approach:

When I tutor I tend to balance explanations with problem solving exercises. The teaching side focus on ways to make even the most difficult scientific idea simple to understand through examples and real life applications, but truly understand a concept you need to apply it and to learn how to use it properly, and that's where the problem solving comes in.

Personal Description:
Hi there,

I'm Alan, I'm an Engineering manager with Siemens, I'm married and live in a lovely part of the Hampshire countryside.

Apart from work, I spend a lot of time cycling and walking the nearby parks and hills.

Teaching Experience:

I've been tutoring for 5 years now, and I am trained as a trainer through work, so I've taught both adults and students. I used to run a training team as part of my last job, and understand a lot about different teaching and learning styles.

Since tutoring I've mostly taught 16 and upwards, physics and maths, and occasionally the odd other question!

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is to make the teaching as simple as possible, and let the student work it out themselves with me providing guidance where need be. Physics, and maths in particular, can be daunting - many people just want to get a good grade and move on, which I understand completely, I'm not going to make you love the subjects but help you get to where you want to be.

Personal Description:
I just finished my A-levels this year and I am applying for medicine this year. I had straight A's and A*'s in my GCSE exams and I achieved AAABB for my A-levels. I am a very enthusiastic, friendly and easily approachable person who gets along with new people very easily.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for about 2 years now. I have taught Primary, Secondary and A-level students in these two years. I have also been teaching in different tuition centres where I have taught kids in small groups as well as One to One. I have also prepared primary school kids for 11+ Exams and SATs exams. I have enabled some of my students to excel so much that their school is making them do their GCSE Maths exam in year 9 instead of year 11.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to provide a solid grounding in the subject while paying close attention to the needs of the individual.
An initial meeting establishes the student's needs and the direction tuition should take, usually with a parent present. Then we begin work on a programme of study which focuses on filling gaps in knowledge and addressing any areas of weakness.I set regular homework and writing assignments - the quantity varying with how much time the student has - and give feedback the following session. I try to implement all of the above in a very friendly, positive and disciplined way making sure the child exceeds his potential.

Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Luis. I am a PhD candidate at the University of Aberdeen working on oil spills in the deep sea as well as a freelance Spanish interpreter and translator. I am from Spain and am very passionate about academia and learning in general.

My background is on oceanography, where I cover ecology (biology), ocean dynamics (physics) and sediment geochemistry (chemistry). Data interpreting is part of my research work and it involves statistics of academic level and mathematical modelling.

I collaborate with AU Science Magazine writing blog posts and editing articles. I am also involved in a Research Development initiative to create a collaborative framework within the University of Aberdeen for researchers and students alike.

Teaching Experience:

Since October 2014 I am a demonstrator at the University of Aberdeen, where I assist in courses on general biology and marine sciences, ecology and office software. I have ample tutoring experience from when I was at University in Spain and continue to tutor to this day. I was also a collaborating student at University in Spain where I prepared practical work for students.

I am a native Spanish speaker and whilst I have not tutored Spanish before, I have taught the language to many English speakers.

Tutoring Approach:

Where students find difficulties I like to break down concepts into simpler pieces that then assemble to represent the entire idea. I also think it is important to let the pupil know the purpose of these concepts in a wider context so that they can appreciate the value of learning the contents of the course.

Finally, I am an advocate of enjoying learning and always endeavour to make lessons as fun and interactive as possible.

Personal Description:
Hi! My name is Maisie, I stay in the Paisley area and I currently studying for a Masters degree in Chemsitry at the University of Glasgow. My passion is science and as I have spent a long time studying it, I would love to be able to pass on my knowledge and experience to help students who are perhaps about to sit exams or just looking for extra practise to understand their subject better.

My studies take up a huge part of my life! But I still manage to fit in a part-time job and a few sessions at the gym each week. My favourite part of my course is getting to use the lab and scientific equipment, it's always great fun to carry out experiments and see the results! I am a member of the Institute of Physics and The Royal Society of Chemistry and spend much of my free time carrying out my own research using the extra resources and benefits membership provides and of course this is something that I would utilise during a tutorial session.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst I have had no formal teaching experience, I have studied various science subjects (chemistry, physics, maths and biology (and human biology)) up to university level and have always succeeded in these areas.

Teaching is something that I am considering as a career choice and so I would love to be able to gain some experience now by helping others succeed.

Tutoring Approach:

My focus would not just be on the material that is needing to be covered but how you feel about the subject as a whole, your strengths and weaknesses and what you enjoy about it the most. It's always so much easier to understand and study something that you enjoy!

Past papers are an important resource for any student but I have always found making use of the Internet and watching informative videos are a great way to learn! Plus I have many textbooks and notes that I have from my time studying that would be a great resource too!
