Personal Description:
Hello,

My name is Anna and I have taught English for Academic Purposes both in the UK and in Japan. Before beginning my teaching career, I gained a doctorate in English Literature at The University of York. One of my hobbies is reading good literature and I believe that reading is a great way to improve language skills. As well as reading, I like being outdoors and taking photographs. As well as living in Japan, I lived in Canada for 9 years and Indonesia for 3 years when I was young. I enjoy meeting people and have certainly found that travel is a great way to make new friends. I have taught many students from a very wide variety of backgrounds and through my experiences, I have developed the skill to provide interesting and enjoyable lessons.

Teaching Experience:

For the last 4 and half years, I taught at Lakeland College, Japan, based in central Tokyo. I taught academic reading, writing, listening and speaking. I also taught an undergraduate writing course where my students were required to write a 10 page research paper on a subject of their choice. In addition, I have extensive experience of one-to-one tuition both in Japan and England. These classes included conversation, business English and also lessons based on grammar textbooks.

Tutoring Approach:

One of my strongest skills as a teacher is being able to make students feel comfortable in lessons. My approach is friendly and student-centered (that is, I expect my students to do the work required!) and this results in my students becoming much more confident in their abilities. Whether on an individual basis or in a classroom, I am able to develop good relationships with my students and through this, I have the pleasure of seeing their skills improve.

Personal Description:
I am specifically a brass teacher, and am a recent graduate of Salford University, having gained a BA(Hons) Degree in Music, and am carrying on to pursue an MA in Music(Performance). I have been perfecting my craft on my instrument (Trumpet) for nearly a decade and a half, and have many years experience as a performer-in recent years having performed at the highest level in brass bands and pursuing a growing career in Jazz and Big Bands. In the last few years I have taught a number of private students-most of them from a university level of playing-so I do specialise to some degree in teaching advanced students. My playing experience to date consists of: I am Principal cornet of the world famous YBS Band, and am increasingly in demand as solo instrumentalist. Principal cornet of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland - have recently toured Japan in this capacity (Altthough due to age I am now no longer elligable to fill this role).
Ex Principal cornet of Sellers International and Carlton Main Bands as well as Unison Kinneil and Bo'ness bands (Scotland), and a former member of the Scottish Co-op Brass Band (CWS Glasgow).

Teaching Experience:

I Have formerly tutored for the Dobcross Youth band and Gateshead Music services on training days, and I also have a great deal of experience as a private brass teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

As already mentioned, I do tend to specialise in catering to advanced students, but regardless of standard or age, my sole aim is to help the student achieve their full potential, and get the most out of their playing. my method of teaching is very methodical and logical-with the aim being that the student will learn proper well-thought out practise and performance-preperation techniques. Ultimately though, my opinion is that the most important thing one should get out of making music is to enjoy it.

Personal Description:
I teach singing, particularly musical theatre and pop. I am also available to teach music theory up to grade 5.

Teaching Experience:

I have a BSc Hons Speech and Language Sciences, which included study of the healthy voice and voice disorders caused by vocal abuse and misuse. Now that I have graduated I want to establish myself as a full-time vocal coach. I have experience teaching both one to one and group lessons and I teach regularly for stage schools and a professional theatre company. I also have experience working with choirs.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach using mainly the Estill method, which is essential for musical theatre as it coveres a wide range of techniques and styles, including healthy belting. Lessons are 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the pupil's preference. I work on what you want to sing, but I will advise on suitable repetoire and technical aspects that need to be worked on. I am flexible and willing to teach small groups (e.g. for duets or group songs). Theory tuition can either be one-to-one or in groups.

Personal Description:
I am an English literature graduate from Queen Mary University of London and achieved a 2.1 BA hons in July 2008. I am currently studing for my PGCE to teach secondary and further education English at Nottingham University, to be completed in June 09. After this I hope to complete an MA in Postcolonial Literature at York University.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently working as a volunteer Teaching Assistant and Tutor at Sheifton Supplementary School in Nottingham. Throughout university I worked as a tutor and mentor at a school in Hackney specialising in A-Level Biology and Psychology. In 2008 I worked as a Recreational Co-Ordinator and tutor in Los Angeles, USA, mentoring and teaching children and young people aged 8-20. I have also worked as a Camp Counsellor and a summer camp in Massachusetts, USA and throughout my teens was a babysitter for a local family.

I have a current CV and am CRB checked. I have all my GCSE, A-Level and Degree certificates available.

Tutoring Approach:

I am an easy going person but I do like to get results. I understand that people have enough homework as it is but I will ask of small tasks to make sure I keep you on track. My main approach to you help you understand something rather than to learn; I find that if you understand a concept, learning becomes a second nature and confidence grows. I will also help with exam prep and technique along with application forms, CV's and Personal Statements. I am able to travel to location but will charge mileage. I can work from home but as I live with another person this will have to be at certain times to ensure the lesson is private.

Personal Description:
I am a very keen and enthusiastic university student myself and love to help others to learn. I am especially good with children and young adults. I am a good role model as I am bubbly, show confidence and balance my studying with my sports and social life. I have lots of experience in childcare and tuition and find different ways for people to understand the materials they are learning that they can relate to which helps them retain the information for longer.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently working at Explore Learning which is designed to help children with their national curriculum between the ages of 5 and 14. This has given me valuable experience on many different teaching techniques as well as keeping up to date with the new learning strategies that children are using in their day to day learning at school.
I have also tutored Biology to small groups of students and one on one in the years below me whilst I was at school completing my A levels.
On a sporting level I gained my CASI snowboarding qualification last year and teach snowboarding with Interski in my university holidays.

Tutoring Approach:

I have many different approaches to learning dependant on the age of the person being tutored. I like to use targets and rewards to keep motivation levels high and I always ensure learning is fun by relating learning to my tutees everyday life.

I am willing to teach throughout the summer holidays for anyone who wishes to continue learning to keep themselves or their children refreshed of information.

Personal Description:
I am 26 years old and am passionate about the importance of language learning. At a time when the numbers of students studying a language nationwide is decreasing, I believe that it is extremely important to make people aware of the benefits which language learning can bring.

I enjoy travelling in Europe and have spent time living and working in France, Germany and Austria, where I was able to develop my linguistic skills and experience and appreciate different cultures.

In my spare time I enjoy reading, watching foreign films and playing tennis and golf.

Teaching Experience:

Since the beginning of September I have been tutoring French and German at an independent college in Edinburgh where I teach both the Scottish Higher and the English A Level courses. My class sizes are very small, with a maximum of two students in a class.

I also have experience of undertaking teaching placements in three secondary schools in Scotland, where I was able to observe various teaching practices and develop my own teaching style.

Additionally, I have valuable experience (approximately 17 months in total) of teaching English in Austria and Germany, which enabled me to observe different education systems and to compare the teaching styles of Britain with these countries.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that it is important to identify the specific needs of the student and to concentrate on these during a lesson. I try to prepare dynamic lessons which encourage the student to have a genuine interest in the language and to maintain and develop this interest. This will enable to student to be motivated and achieve a better standard of work.

I am also a big believer in adding a cultural element to a lesson wherever possible so that the student can learn about the country(ies) where their chosen language is spoken and not simply learn the language without any cultural awareness. In my opinion the cultural dimension enriches the language learning process.
