Personal Description:
I am a contemporary artist making visual art for exhibition, publication and screening. I make work in painting, photography and film and I also write and make books. My work often takes me to lots of interesting places around the country and abroad where I facilitate training in art and creativity with a range of community groups. I have been working as an artist in schools since 1997 particularly with primary school aged children. When I am not doing all of this i like to go to the theatre, galleries, travel and cook. I'm part of a local ladies football team who i train with every week and I commute by bicycle whenever I can as keeping fit and active is an important part of my lifestyle.

Teaching Experience:

I began teaching/facilitating as a training advisor in 2001 within a community arts project and adopted a participant-centred approach which was effective in working with participants who were partly or permanently excluded from school or/and living within the foster care system, or unemployed with no or little qualifications. My role was to facilitate the development of individualised project briefs and themes with participants based upon both their strengths and interests and build a programme of workshops to facilitate both creative and Key Skills development. Participants would be encouraged to work independently, individually and in groups in response to self-created briefs to produce a portfolio of creative work. I liaised with outside agencies within education, social services, and industry sectors to actively re-introduce and establish participants who had produced a body of work into full/part time education, work experience or/and relevant employment. The process of facilitation and consultation was quite challenging due to issues and barriers to learning and expression participants displayed and I developed an open, flexible and responsive attitude. Continual monitoring, informal and formal assessment strengthened the reflection and evaluation of participants engagement and progress which in turn led to further developments in implementing differentiated provision.
This experience laid the foundations for a teaching style that was inclusive in nature and was further developed throughout the following years (2002-) of artistic practice that saw me facilitate skills in visual art production with a range of community groups. The combined experiences as a training advisor and as an artist/facilitator have merged into what I consider to be a teaching style that flourished with my role as lecturer on the photography degree at a local college. Working within an institution of further and higher education as a lecturer was a stark contrast to what I had engaged in before and required me to teach within established schemes of work and modes of delivery. I adapted myself to this successfully maintaining a creative and individualised approach to teaching within a framework. The following academic year in 2007 I was given the responsibility of devising the scheme of work and mode of delivery for the critical and theoretical studies module on the photography degree, which was to be co-delivered with a new member of staff.

Tutoring Approach:

Throughout employment as a lecturer and training advisor my approach and teaching style took into consideration each student's individual circumstances, their interests, needs, abilities, and learning styles, adapting the teaching content and style to ensure student engagement. I am also aware of what is needed to effectively strike a balance between individual student aspirations and abilities against collective requirements stipulated by a curriculum. I've worked with students from both vocational and academic backgrounds, with disaffected and culturally diverse youth age groups, with students who have alternative and changing lifestyles, mental health and physical conditions, and do so by adapting style and content to structure and scaffold their journey through the course offering the relevant support and pastoral care.

I studied broadcasting while I was in China and I worked as a presenter part-time for a radio station, as such My Chinese pronunciation is very clear and standard. I also studied some Japanese, which gave me a grasp of learning and developing a new language.

I got first class in the National Standard Chinese Level Qualification which shows I have near perfect pronunciation. Pronunciation is very important in Chinese and thus it is vital that the person who is teaching you has good pronunciation or you will pick up their mistakes too.

Teaching Experience:

When I was in China, I tutored some primary school aged students English to earn extra income. This has given me a base in teaching languages and so I have a good understanding of the differences in the languages such as grammar, word composition, and the etiquette.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is very much tailored to the students needs.
For short-time learners, I will focus on basic common expressions, useful tourists sayings and culture differences. For long-time learners I will work on everything from grammar to hand writing to allow the student to communicate naturally in in Chinese.

I am approachable and enjoy working one to one with pupils. Pupils find my open manner engaging; particularly when they are finding English difficult.

I have been lucky enough to travel all over the world and engage with people of varying ages and cultures. This has fuelled my passion to work with people.

Teaching Experience:

Since returning home from New Zealand I immediately signed up with Select Education and I was working in Secondary, Primary and SEN schools in South Yorkshire.Working part time allowed me to spend time tutoring students, I took students requiring additional help for Standards and Highers and helped them through their exams, with great success. I also took younger students requiring additional support.

I teach Drama to children aged between 2 - 18 years. I plan and deliver five classes each week, alongside directing plays and helping the students prepare for LAMDA exams. I have recently directed 'Ruckus In The Garden' & 'The Complete Works Of Shakespeare (Abridged)' with our Advanced Class at the Capitol Theatre in Horsham. I teach many aspects of theatre including storytelling, acting skills, comedy, improvisation, physical theatre and script work. I run interactive storytelling sessions with my early years classes where the children can learn and participate in stories and poetry.

As Actor In Residence I worked as a drama teacher, activity leader, LAMDA/Trinity coach, director, producer and I assisted in the day to day running of the 500 seat theatre. I taught 2nd and 3rd Form (Yr 7 & 8) drama using existing schemes of work alongside those I created. I taught over 150 pupils per week and as their only drama teacher I was responsible for their reports, three-weekly grades and parent's evenings. The school were so pleased with my contributions to teaching they offered me twice my teaching hours in my second year. I also team taught Yr 9 lessons and I assisted with directing etc in GCSE and A-Level lessons. Alongside academic teaching I led Drama 'actives' after lessons where I created and lead a one hour drama workshop several times a week. Working at Christ's Hospital also gave me the chance to work in a busy theatre environment combining set design, prop making, theatre maintenance, stage management and front of house management. I also directed and co-directed several shows including 'Anything Goes', 'The Crucible', 'Grim Tales', 'Ernie' Incredible Illuciantions', 'Easy Virtue' and 'The Jungle Book'. Communication Skills - Working with very young children with no English language

Each Summer I taught English to children aged 7 - 12 from around the world. I lived on site (in a boarding school environment) and I was responsible for teaching, entertaining and caring for the children twenty four hours a day. Having worked for the company for several years I reached the level of Assistant Director and Head of TEFL for the residential course. I was responsible for a team of teaching staff and I ensured they were delivering suitable and stimulating English lessons throughout the course. I also taught a class of my own. As Assistant Director I was a senior part of the management team, ensuring all activity and teaching staff were working happily and correctly. In the absence of the Course Director it was my responsibility alone to ensure the smooth running of our course. I often had to deal with couriers and families and I know how to project a professional, caring, enthusiastic and genuine image. I developed my team work skills, learnt how to thrive under immense pressure and my communication skills were constantly used to their full potential.

During a work placement with the Sheffield based theatre company Point Blank I worked with a partner to devise and deliver a cultural drama workshop. I worked as a mentor for two international students who had travelled to the UK to teach school children about their cultures. I taught the two international students how to deliver a successful drama workshop and I helped them shape their own ideas into an educational and enjoyable drama workshop for Primary School children. Alongside this project I also worked with an English partner to create a cultural workshop for deprived children in the city. I contacted The Sheffield Children's Centre and created a relationship with them enabling us to take our workshop to underprivileged children who had never had the chance to express themselves through drama.

June - September 2006 - The Funzone - Playworker

The Fun Zone provided after-school and summer holiday childcare play schemes for children, aged three to twelve. I would lead activities, play group games, prepare and cook the children's meals, clean the rooms, supervise children and be responsible for groups of children on various outings and trips throughout the summer. I learnt how to work with children and how to work effectively to carry out duties such as cooking and cleaning, while making sure the children in my care were both entertained and safe.

Enthusiastic with a restless intelligence, thirsty for knowledge, always keen to discover more, I am continually fascinated by the interplay between culture and society. I have expert knowledge in English and American Literature, the history of cinema, and the development of western philosophy. I resigned from my post as head of department at a large comprehensive school so that I would have more time to write my book comparing the films of Preminger and Hitchcock. Freed from the administrative demands of a school, I have even more energy and creativity to devote to teaching, and will have a powerfully positive impact on whoever I tutor.

Teaching Experience:

I have over thirty years' experience in a wide variety of educational contexts: at universities in Britain and abroad, in comprehensive schools, FE colleges, language schools and professional training. I have worked as a A Level examiner and moderator for over ten years, so understand exactly what students need to do to impress markers, and can advise on how to avoid mediocrity. I have been tutoring online for two years, and find that the level of concentration in a Skype session is usually higher than in person: the start is crisper, the learning more focused.

Tutoring Approach:

Fun, exciting, inspiring. I love the stimulating variety of one-to-one tuition. Over the years, I have adapted my plans, materials and methods to meet the specific needs, aims and expectations of an extremely wide variety of learners in terms of ability, personality and specialisation. At one end of the scale, I trained Swedish officers in media relations ahead of their deployment with the UN in Bosna, and spent eight weeks one-to-one with the head of personnel of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, improving his presentation skills. At the other end of the scale, I had notable success tutoring a teenager with emotional and behavioural difficulties who had been permanently excluded from school for violence, and was in local authority care. Working with him individually for three hours a day, concentrating on English, Maths and History, I had a very positive and potentially transformative impact. At every point in scale, I treat individuals with respect and dedication, determined to help them achieve their potential.

Personal Description:
I'm Charlotte and I'm 18! I've just completed my A Levels in Media Studies, English Language, and Theatre Studies. I'm very passionate about Media and my predicted grade is an A. Hopefully this September I will be moving onto University to study Film Studies with Film Production. I'm a keen helper and I've always been willing to support others in my class for Media, as my course was based entirely on a blog and I tended to finish ahead of time it meant I could support those who were struggling. While obviously I don't know everything I am pretty confident on how the A Level works and am super willing to support. I'd prefer to tutor over Skype or something as I still live at home and will also be moving away from home soon. Additionally tutoring over Skype means I can share work over the Internet which is beneficial to the course.

Teaching Experience:

I've been teaching for 15 years; over half of that as a head of English. I'm nuts about assessment and as a result I'm an examiner for Ks2 SATs, GCSE and A Level. I'm also a moderator for A level so if you need help with coursework then look no further!

Sometimes students want extra help during revision time. I can arrange intensive sessions just before that big exam to give you the confidence you need.

I've also tutored for some years and have my own transport or I am available for Skype training if required.

Tutoring Approach:

When something is made relevant to you, then you're far more likely to remember it. Therefore I always get to know my students and consider how to tailor the learning to them.

My experience with examining makes me a great tutor-I know exactly what the exam board wants...I work for them!

In 2012 I started tutoring kids in secondary school, teaching subjects spanning from mathematics to religion studies, from design to natural sciences.
