Personal Description:
I am a tutor (and owner of A*-Star Maths) who strives for my students to achieve the "slightly impossible". I am 31 years of age with >10 years experience in teaching Maths. I hold a degree in Medicine, an MSc, PhD and Chartered status (CEng, CSci, MIChemE). During weekdays I work fulll time for Novartis Vaccines as a Six Sigma BlackBelt (Statistics) Lead

** I guarantee a noticeable improvement in my students after approximately 8 sessions.

Teaching Experience:

I have >10 yrs experience specialising in GCSE Maths.
Current and previous clients are from Eton College, Westminster Independent School, Mechant Taylor Independant School and Bolton Independant Girl School.
Numerous testimonies from past and present clients can be provided upon request

Tutoring Approach:

All students are different in their ability, confidence and understanding of Maths. However, the mission for A*-Star Maths is to ensure that every pupil we encounter leaves with the same top grade (A*), the same high self-esteem and confidence with dealing with all variation of Maths that they will encounter after their GCSE's.

As a rule of thumb, parents can expect the following at A*-Star Maths

Session 1: Students understanding of Maths is quickly understood with tutoring and homework provide for immediate improvement.

Session 2-5: Focus on ensure that the students basic understanding of fractions, algebra, trigonometry and numbers are well understood and practiced.

Session 6 onwards: Students confidence and ability should show a marked improvement by this point. The student should now be fully focused to achieve the highest of grades in a very short time. Past experience has demonstrated that most pupils can excel 2-3 yrs ahead of the class within a year of tuition. We can provide many testimonies to demonstrate these proud observations.

Personal Description:
I am currently a year 3 student at Imperial College London studying Chemistry. I also do Physics and Maths as my ancillary subject. I am well organised and able to manage time effectively. My hobbies and interest includes shotokan karate which I have done for the past nine years and also football. I attended secondary school as a boarder in Reading School, where I did my GCSEs (8A*s,4As) and A-levels in maths, further maths, chemistry and history (4As). I am used to working with children as I have worked as a Kumon assistant. Kumon is a programme for children where they do worksheets for maths and English to improve their speed, accuracy and discipline.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a tutor for 2 years. In this time i have tutored numerous students from the age of 8 up to 18. I have taught maths in particular to years 5-11 recently. In all cases I have improved their exam performances and been thanked by the parents.

I have worked in a primary school as a volunteer running a morning maths class every Tuesday during my A-levels. This helped me learn a lot on how to convey my message to children so they understand how to solve the problem using their own intuition.

Furthermore I have worked with children in the Bloomsbury Kumon centre for the past few years which has been beneficial in many ways. I have learnt how children can progress over time and what is required to help them. At school I have tutored younger children in maths and helped them with their GCSE and A-levels as a mentor.

I have also worked as a teacher assistant in Camden School for Girls and helped in class across all the year groups.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in going through problems with the children first and showing a clear example, then allowing them to practice until they understand and can do the problems on their own. Furthermore I sometimes guide them in the right direction without actually telling the answer so the child is able to figure it out for themselves. I would follow the syllabus provided and teach every topic in suitable order. Then I had work through past papers and leave them papers and homework on each topic to practice. I would try to create a spark and make the pupils interested in the subject so that they can pursue their further studies with more enthusiasm.

Personal Description:
I have completed MSc in Sustainable Energy Systems from Queen Mary, University of London under school of engineering and materials science. I had BSc (honors) degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from American International University - Bangladesh. Apart from my academic studies, I like to read books covering diverse topics, watch documentaries, experience new cultures, new people and sharing knowledge.

Teaching Experience:

I really enjoy teaching. I started teaching students during my undergraduate studies. I professionally taught students from very young age to university level for about five years. In addition to that I like to talk to people, learning new things, keep myself updated in recent development in science and technology, world affairs and different branches of knowledge which helps me to teach my students better. Currently I am teaching a student who is studying Electronics and Computer Engineering in Newcastle University. I am helping him in level 2 and level 3 modules.

Tutoring Approach:

I consider tutoring as interactive knowledge sharing. I prefer interactive teaching method ensuring active participation of the students in the lesson. I always start with basic concepts of any subjects so that students understand the subject thoroughly. I prepare my students not only for the exams but also for developing their intellectual faculty. I try to provide real life applications of the subjects which help students to get motivated and feel interested towards the subject matter.

Personal Description:
I like to be busy! I feel it is important to maintain a work-life balance, which, although admittedly was a steep learning curve in my NQT year, I have managed to achieve and perfect in my subsequent four years in teaching. I have five pets - three rats and two tortoises, which sometimes feels like a job in itself, although I adore them and wouldn't give them up in a second. I enjoy keeping fit and healthy and particularly enjoy running, cycling and fitness classes. Occasionally, I take part in events such as marathons, half marathons and cycle rides and raised 1000 for charity a few years ago by running three half-marathons in three subsequent months. I am also part of a local amateur theatre group and usually take part in one or two shows a year. These have included Little Shop of Horrors, Gigi, Sleeping Beauty and A Christmas Carol, amongst others. This has given me an enthusiasm for drama which I have explored through yearly key stage Christmas productions and assemblies at my last school, where I taught for 5 years. Finally, on my weekends off, I enjoy watching movies and reading on an occasional "duvet day."

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a primary school teacher in early 2006 and began supply teaching in Reading, where I had studied for my Education Degree. In May 2006, I began working in a one-form entry primary school in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, where I taught for 5 years and additionally led 5 curriculum areas in the school. During my time in this school, I planned and taught all National Curriculum subjects to children with a range of abilities and needs, including children who were "gifted and talented", children with autism and Downs syndrome, and children working below national expectations. A classroom with children working at a range of levels and with different interests and learning styles makes for challenging teaching, but allowed me to develop and hone a creative and flexible approach to teaching. I was observed regularly as part of continuing professional development, and in observations by my last two Headteachers, was graded as "excellent".
I am currently working as a Lower School Leader, teaching Reception and leading the Early Years and Key Stage One. It is a busy job with lots of challenge but lots of fun.

Tutoring Approach:

I have been tutoring for two years and have a few children I see regularly. I am keen to take on more, particularly in the school holidays. My teaching apporach is very flexible. I understand that everyone learns in different ways and at different rates, so this is reflected in my teaching. I cater to a range of learning styles, and ensure that my lessons are fun, yet suitably challenging. I feel it is important to keep learning fun for children of all ages, to motivate them to want to learn and to empower them to take ownership of their own learning. I feel teaching should be more than just a series of worksheets, and for children to really understand and take on new concepts, they need a range of approaches to enable them to explore their subject matter. For example, lessons may include work on a laptop, written work, games, experiments/investigations, role-play & drama and more.

Personal Description:
I am a fourth year medical student at Imperial College London. Having recently been through high school and excelled in both GCSEs and A-levels, I know what it requires for a student to perform to the best of their ability. I am a strong believer that with hard work and the right guidance, most students can go on to achieve excellent grades.

Teaching Experience:

During my A-levels, I have helped teach younger students in Geography and Maths classes, but the majority of my teaching experience has been with my two younger brothers. I have worked very hard with them over the years and take pride in the fact that they too performed exceptionally well at school through my help.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to make my lessons interactive, explaining complex ideas in the simplest and most interesting way possible. I strongly believe that student must first develop a good conceptual understanding of the subject before refining their exam technique. I will work hard for my students and expect them to do the same in their studies.

Personal Description:
Hi I'm Kester and I have been working in IT and business for 25 years (16 of those at IBM) mainly with databases, reporting and analytics. Additionally I have spent much time tutoring and mentoring students in both inside and outside business.

To me it's all about reputation. Real success in tutoring for me has come about through really delighting all my students and ensuring their success which leads to referrals from their friends, colleagues and peers. Therefore you can be 100% assured that I will make certain that any student I take on will be tutored to the best of my ability and to the highest levels possible. I am only satisfied when they get they grades they need and deserve.

So whether it's Maths, English or IT you need to learn I am definitely able to help you and can guarantee your satisfaction.

Teaching Experience:

I currently have 3 Maths and 1 Computing student who are long term (6 months+) and have many satisfied high school students in Maths, Computing Science and Project Management (references are available). In the past I have also tutored large classes of computing students at adult education classes, whilst as part of my job at IBM I have tutored many colleagues on project management and how to use computers and software particularly for measurement and reporting which involve a lot of maths and arithmetic.

I can teach English and Scottish curriculum subjects including new National 4,5

Tutoring Approach:

Structure is the key to success. However I do believe it is important to play to a students strengths and interests as building confidence is absolutely key to getting students to learn effectively. Additionally I use a wide range of learning methods as I am aware that every one learns in a different way, some by doing, some be seeing, some by hearing etc. So multiple learning methods are employed often simultaneously to maximise the effective learning environment for each student.
A study plan will be drawn up and agreed which will be tailored individually to each students objectives and needs and this way we can all be clear when learning objectives have been met.

Personal Description:
I graduating from the College of St Mark and St John in 2003 with a 2: 1 Honours Degree, my Post Graduate Certificate in Education was awarded at Marjon in 2004.

I have many years teaching and tutoring experience so have considerable empathy for students (and parents) involved in the GCSE process.

Teaching Experience:

"I have 8 years classroom experience and 2 years Tutoring experience guiding GCSE students successfully through their Maths GCSE exams

Tutoring Approach:

I currently tutor students studying the Foundation level of GCSE Maths. If you find Maths a bit of a challenge and are hoping to achieve that important Grade C at GCSE, my sessions are tailored especially for you. Lessons are delivered in a relaxed atmosphere where students are supported patiently with positive encouragement.

A lack of confidence in Mathematics can be a barrier to learning in itself. My methods are specifically designed to boost self-confidence, accelerate learning and ensure higher attainment. With the growing competition for A Level and university places, a GCSE pass in Mathematics is essential for a young person's future."

If Maths is not your strong point but you really want the best chance of success in the GCSE exams, call now for your initial assessment.

Personal Description:
I am a Mathematics undergraduate at Imperial College London. I have just completed `A` levels 4 months ago and below are my special interests whilst studying 'A' levels:
•Discovering alternative (to the textbook) viewpoints to explain physical phenomena.
•Completing proofs in mathematics textbooks (especially for the statistics modules).
•Sharing and contemplating these with peers and teachers!

I thoroughly enjoyed the process of deriving various formulae from first principles in order to remember them rather than purely memorising them as instructed by the textbook in many cases. Furthermore, I was even more excited when my peers(mostly juniors!) shared my stance when I shared my ideas. I am `dying` to share them with you!
(NB I am able to communicate in English and Mandarin. This might be helpful if you have linguistic issues.)

Hobbies: Reading (about mathematical/theoretical physics), badminton, running and swimming.

Teaching Experience:

•Demonstrating scientific experiments during school open days (2012-2013).
•Informally teaching my peers using derived mathematical proofs and alternative viewpoints in Physics as mentioned before.

Tutoring Approach:

I am most free on
Wednesdays after 1230 and Saturdays all day.
I will try to work something out for other times.

I would be happy to tutor online (at a lower rate).

A charge of £1 for every 5 minutes of travelling in addition to travelling costs will be charged if I were to travel to you. This will be fixed after the first session.
