Personal Description:
I am a 28 year old Mathematics graduate, having worked for 3 years as a Statistican, now living in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. I believe learning is one of the most important parts of life and I thoroughly enjoy tutoring others and helping them with their learning. I am confident in tutoring my chosen subject of Mathematics and aim to improve others Mathematics skills.

Teaching Experience:

I believe I can help those struggling with Mathematics work of any kind and enjoy being given the opportunity to do so. I have over 8 years of tutoring experience, beginning with tutoring a 7 year old Key Stage 2 skills until she was 10 years old whilst at University. I then spent a year full time as a personal tutor - teaching students from 10 years of age to Adult and continue to tutor outside of my main job. Levels I have taught at are; Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3, GCSE, AS and A2 Level, University level and Adult Math courses. I mainly focus on GCSE and A Level (Core and Statistics). I have learnt to adapt my teaching methods to the individual and have a wide range of experience with different abilities.

In my last term at University, I chose to undertake a module entitled 'Mathematics in the Classroom' where I began observing two teachers and ended up teaching Statistic to an A-level class of Mathematics students. This experience developed my confidence in teaching and I learnt a great deal about how to communicate Mathematics to a group of students.

In previous years, I have volunteered in related areas: working with special needs children (aged 3 - 18), working with groups of children in after school hours (aged 5 - 11); Funfishers, and spent time in primary schools helping out wherever.

Tutoring Approach:

I set all my students homework to be completed by our next lesson as keeping up with Mathematics is all about putting in the practice of what is learnt in the lesson. Progress is made with all my students and their confidence regarding Mathematics has greatly improved. I aim to set targets for the student to achieve by the following lesson and concentrate on where the student struggles.

I like to encourage my students to ask questions if curious/unsure to aid their understanding as well as asking my students questions to ensure they are thinking about the subject and to check their understanding. I aim to pass on my knowledge and confidence in the Mathematical area.

Personal Description:
Teaching is a profession I have come to thoroughly enjoy. The satisfaction I get from helping learners realize and unlock their potential is something I always look forward to and cherish. I always say the rewards of facilitating learning is one that can not be measured. I consider myself to be young (although students never agree) and I have an enthusiastic drive which I always carry along with my character. I enjoy reading and from time to time write my own pieces of poetry. As the eldest sibling I have acquired strong leadership skills and have had to be a role model for my younger brothers. I enjoy sports, mainly basketball and try my best to keep a healthy life style.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience varies by institution and ability. After my degree in Drama and English, I taught at a secondary school in London. Here I taught students in years 7, 8, 9 with different abilities in English and Drama. This experience helped me develop my skills in adapting. Different student abilities meant different strategies and adapting to each learner's ability soon became a polished skill. I also taught drama in a sixth form college during the same time. This presented me with quite a hectic timetable, but also helped enhance my organizational skills. I am currently studying PGCE PCET at the Birmingham City University where I have been placed to teach Key and Functional Skills to Post Compulsory learners.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very positive attitude to my learners. To me there is no student that is incapable of learning and being taught. The trick to is to adapt a method that can be understood by the learner. I always draw up lesson plans to suit individual learners. This way the learner understands things in a familiar setting. The use of different learning aids is also incorporated in my sessions. Anything from traditional text books to visual aids including educational videos are all tools I use to facilitate learning.

I have marked many past exam papers and worked with a lot of GCSE groups. I have a very high understanding of the level that is needed to achieve each grade.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a friendly and enthusiastic approach, where I focus on relating to the pupil and inspiring them to do the best they can. I look to establish their strengths and weaknesses, build their confidence in the subject and push them to their maximum.

Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Mitul. I teach Mathematics on a one-to-one basis to students at different levels. I have a BSc in Mathematics from Imperial College, London and an MSc in Financial Mathematics from the University of Warwick.

Teaching Experience:

I have over five years of private tutoring experience in Maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to establish what the student knows and needs during the sessions, building upon their existing knowledge and closing gaps. My approach typically involves working with pupils on their weaker topics, giving them confidence to work progressively through text book questions and then past papers. I try to break problems down into manageable chunks and explain those parts that do not make sense in more detail, using my communication skills to pass on my subject knowledge.

An integral part of the sessions and the student progression is the completion of weekly homework. Whilst I may not ask for specific questions or exercises to be completed each week, feedback from the follow-up work is crucial in ensuring that progress is continually being made.

Personal Description:
Experienced lecturer and private tutor offering individual mathematics tuition at A level and GCSE/KS3. My teaching style is supportive and flexible, responding to the unique needs of each student. While I place a proper emphasis on exam preparation my supportive approach helps build my students' confidence in their ability to succeed.

Teaching Experience:

Lecturer and private tutor with 24 years' experience.

Tutoring Approach:

I ask students to do exercises and past paper questions, as appropriate, to aid in diagnosis. Following that, my approach is tailored to the individual, using explanation, example, practical illustration and context. I then set problems to assess progress and develop mathematical "fluency". I set a modest amount of homework to encourage my tutees to practice what they have learned.

The benefits of my approach are attested to by feedback obtained from students and parents, as listed below:-

"Excellent.Very professional and dedicated. Explains subjects in a way that puts the student at ease and therefore absorbs the information easier than being in the classroom. Have seen a great improvement in our daughters confidence in the maths subject thanks to David's tuition. Highly recommended." (Liz)

"Excellent. If you are looking for a private maths tutor I strongly recommend David. Patient, helpful and works around you. My daughter enjoys her time with David and I and is becoming more confident." (Gillian)

"I have a much clearer understanding of the subject. It has been great and well worth it. I would widely recommend it to anyone doing maths A level." (Ben)

"All of this makes perfect sense to me now." (Becky)

"I have been accepted into the course I wanted. It would not have been so without your guidance." (Matthew, A2 level)

"Excellent. Well structured, beneficial to my studies. Lessons were very clear and provided exam guidance. Always left a session with greater knowledge. Thank you very much for your tuition." (Richard, 1st year UG)

"Focussed on what I was struggling on. It's been great and you've really given me confidence that I can do all my maths exams. Thank you for all your help." (Sarah, A2 level)

Personal Description:
I'm a qualified teacher with experience in tutoring students from GCSE to undergraduate level. I received a Physics degree from Cardiff University, before getting married and moving to Sheffield to do my teacher training and a PhD.

Throughout this time I have been involved in teaching and tutoring, whether more formally in schools and at Sheffield University, or more informal private tuition to GCSE students and an engineering undergraduate.

My teaching seeks to develop understanding, whilst being enjoyable, and generally includes practical activities as well as written and oral work. In this respect I have spent many sessions in primary schools, secondary schools and public spaces (including the Winter Gardens, Sheffield) doing public Science teaching, demonstrations and promotions. This has helped me learn how to help everyone understand various aspects of Maths and Science, regardless of background or age.

Outside of teaching and tutoring I enjoy cycling and getting out into the Peak district.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst completing my teacher training I taught students from 12-18 and across the ability spectrum in all three Sciences.

Since then I have been involved in delivering tutorials and lectures at Sheffield University to undergraduate students in Physics and Maths. During this time I have privately tutored both undergraduate and GCSE students.

Tutoring Approach:

I vary my approach to tutoring depending on the needs, ability and age of the student, but in all cases I'm patient, friendly and encouraging.

When there is sufficient time, students are encouraged to complete some diagnostic work to establish both their ability and confidence across the curriculum. This allows the tutorials to be planned appropriately for each specific student.

Just before the exam, exam technique help and troubleshooting can make a significant difference to the students performance and confidence, even with just one or two sessions.

Personal Description:
I am a 21 year-old undergraduate student in the University of Birmingham, following a degree in mathematics.

Teaching Experience:

In 2010-2012 I was the initiator of a volunteer project called 'Fairy tales in Pictures'. The project involved working, communicating and interacting with children with learning difficulties, playing games with them and teaching them to tackle different tasks. This was an opportunity to develop my communication and listening skills regarding various kinds of people, becoming extremely aware of the difficulties children can have with learning and understanding new things, and how these difficulties can be tackled.
I have helped my 11-year-old sister with her maths and English language-related lessons over the years. This has helped me understand children better and sense when they are in need for more training and explanation in particular areas. I have also helped friends' children with their problems, offering help, guidance and advice.

Tutoring Approach:

The key method to learning mathematics is by solving problems and dealing with examples. My approach is to give a clear explanation on the theory and then focus on different types of examples to help children understand things through practice. After several examples, I encourage children to attempt problems themselves at first, then ask questions and give small hints, guiding the child to obtain the correct answer as independently as possible. I give homework for children to practice their newly acquired knowledge, and I check if they've done the homework correctly on the next lesson.

Personal Description:
Postgraduate Student.

I am a twenty-one year old postgraduate student at the University of Glasgow. I enjoy helping students reach their full potential and understand the tricky bits of their material which is escaping their understanding. I am a Canadian studying abroad here in Glasgow and therefore do not have GCSEs or A levels, but I have the equivalent levels from Canadian institutions with top marks. I tutor best in history, my chosen subject, English or French as a second language, and maths, which I not only did well in during secondary school, but all of which I have also studied at the University level. I get along very well with students of all ages and try to make the tutoring experience a fun an interesting one for any student.

Teaching Experience:

Tutoring 1 on 1
ESL teaching (Group sizes from 5-12)
Age range of experience: 7-18 year olds

I have several years of teaching experience in different settings and with different age groups. I've taught English as a Second Language in a camp setting which ran lessons similar to classroom lessons every morning. I had to design my own approaches to various topics which gave me a lot of practice in making studying and learning interesting and easier for children who were less interested or struggling. I also tutored on a private basis for primary school-aged children through the medium of French and English in reading and writing skills as well as the general subjects at that age. I have tutored at the secondary school level in Maths, English, French, Sciences, and History. I have also been a teaching assistant at the University level for both Irish and Scottish Gaelic second language courses as well as a general Celtic World knowledge course.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning should be fun.
Aim is to help student learn how they understand instruction so that they are more confident in their own abilities and can perform better in the future.
Use past work to improve on future work.

Learning should be fun and I strive to make the tutoring experience less about school work and more about understanding the ways in which what is being taught is of interest to the student. Finding ways to improve the student's understanding and learning experience sometimes means approaching the material in a different way than is being taught in class. Teachers understand that not all student learn the same way but cannot always deliver their teaching in all these ways. By helping the student understand the material first and then explaining the method the teacher used to explain it first allows the student to reach their full potential, understand the material, and go back to class with a better chance following the teacher's instruction.

All of this is done in a light-mannered way that does not make the child feel as though tutoring is a punishment for not understanding in class, but rather, a (sometimes lengthy) temporary situation until the student becomes more confident about his or her own skills!

Using the student's own work is an important tool for helping them recognize their own areas of difficulty and should be used again as mock exams to help the student see tangible proof of their improvements. The best understanding of any subject comes from watching it being done/having it explained, doing it oneself, and then teaching it in turn.

Personal Description:
I am a 28 year old primary school teacher with a passion for helping children to achieve their full academic potential. I am fairly new to the Midlands but am enjoying living and working in Derbyshire - it is a sharp contrast to life in Essex which is where I grew up. I enjoy an active lifestyle and have many interests. Some of these include: attending exercise classes, cooking, healthy living, socialising with friends, reading, writing and tutoring on a 1:1 or small group basis.

Teaching Experience:

I have 5 years experience in primary school teaching and have taught children from nursery age up to year 6. I have worked with a vast range of pupils, including those with specific learning difficulties and needs and children with English as an additional language. I am the maths coordinator at my current school and have a deep passion for this subject. I currently teach 30 children in year 3 and 4.

I have worked as a private tutor for many children and have a wealth of experience in this area as well as classroom teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I start my initial sessions by assessing a child's ability in the chosen subject (or both English and Maths) and form a plan based on this along with discussions with the parents/carers. I pride myself in my ability to fill gaps in a child's knowledge and develop confidence by using a range of personally tailored resources and approaches.
