| Personal Description: I am a 44 Year old Canadian male who has been teaching and tutoring for over 20 years. I believe that everyone is capable of learning maths and I am very patient with my students. I am hard working and very professional. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught at several different levels. I have taught from Key stage 3 to Key Stage 5. I have also taught at the College and University levels. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoering it to try to get the students to see maths as it is related to their life in some way. maths is a very important tool for so many jobs that students may want to pursue, and it is important that the see maths as more than just a subject that they struggle with in school. Instead, I want students to see maths as the art form and important tool that it is. |

| Personal Description: I am a 29 year old fully GTC registered primary school teacher and currently working in a primary school in Stirlingshire. I live in Glasgow's Southside and I am able to travel to most areas in the Glasgow/Lanarkshire/Falkirk area. |
Teaching Experience: I have a BSc Biomedical Sciences and a PGDE Primary Education from the University of Strathclyde. I have taught continuously since graduating in a variety of schools across Central Scotland. I have gained experience working in the Early Years, lower school and most recently have been a class teacher in the upper school. My experience has also allowed me to work with children with additional support needs and children requiring one-to-one teaching. |
Tutoring Approach: I am friendly and approachable and employ interactive methods in my teaching. In line with the new Scottish curriculum developments, I am aware of the need to put learning into context and everyday situations, especially for those children requiring extra support. I have high aspirations and expectations of the children I teach and help them to gain confidence in their own abilities through the use of praise and by breaking the learning and teaching into smaller manageable tasks. I believe that encouraging the children to ask questions and to think more in depth about their work encourages a greater level of understanding. contact me at: stuartmcgrath AT ho tmail dot co m for further information |

| Personal Description: I am a first-turning-second year Undergraduate Mathematics student at Kings College London. I enjoy the challenge of clearly explaining different levels of mathematics to fellow students at my university, and pupils in the past. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught; 2 students from year 9, 3 from year 10, 1 from year 11, and 4 from year 12. Each student had a very different level of ability in Mathematics for their age - which forced me to learn how to adapt to different abilities within the same age group, and what targets to set. |
Tutoring Approach: Before the first lesson, I will obtain the pupils syllabus, textbook, and exam reference. This information helps me understand what the pupil is required to learn to step up a gear in their course. I then create a balance of keeping the pupil interested and focused - by, for example, telling him/her the application/theory behind the questions he/she is answering - and challenging the student with example questions, tests, and home-works - created by myself as to not let the pupil repeat questions when at school. Once the course has been taught and the pupil is comfortable with the material, the student will then start to be prepared for the end of year examination. Apart from lessons on the mathematics, during this period i will also give the student advice on how to tackle the exam and advice for the day. |

| Personal Description: I am a friendly, bubbly and responsible individual, with excellent communication skills, and a genuine love of teaching. I am hard-working, conscientious and highly enthusiastic when it comes to teaching, and thoroughly enjoy seeing the rising achievement of my pupils. As an Oxford Graduate, I have studied History from medieval times to the present at degree-level, which gives me a vast subject knowledge. |
Teaching Experience: I am a fully qualified History teacher, with experience in English and English-as-an-Additional-Language tuition. I have been teaching in comprehensive schools for the last four years, and have also been tutoring for several Oxford-based tutorial colleges. As a result, I have taught at many different levels, and have experience of all examination boards at GCSE and A level. I also teach Learning 2 Learn, which allows pupils to gain a greater understanding of multi-sensory and metacogantive learning, which has allowed me to adopt several different teaching and learning styles, benefitting my teaching and tutoring. |
Tutoring Approach: Firstly, I would assess the knowledge and understanding of the pupil, thus ensuring that I can meet their needs and increase their attainment. Then, tutorials would take a very examination-driven approach, using board specifications, mark schemes and model answers, which would allow the pupil to understand exactly what is required of them during the examination. I would also be willing to assist with any coursework, and encourage extra reading, and give them as many resources as possible. I feel it is also important to allow pupils to read around their subject, as it often gives them greater confidence and extra understanding of the topics being studied. As an Oxford graduate, I can also tutor for Oxbridge examination and interview preparation, as I have done so where I teach for the last four years. Ultimately, I favour a rather personalised approach, and would create a tailor-made unit of study in order to ensure success. |

| Personal Description: I have been a teacher for 20 years. My experience in different types of schools and with different types of pupils is extensive. I have proven to be popular with the overwhelming majority of my pupils over the last two decades. I have always taught what has been best for my pupils and tried to speak with them like the young men and women they will one day become. I believe in the education of the whole person. If you would like a more in-depth picture of me then you can read the interview at the Tom Brown website under articles: 'to tutor or not to tutor?' Also, if you need for me to travel over 15 miles on the road there will be a small charge for petrol and travel time. On average I teach 10-15 tutees each week. So as you can see I am very much in demand and teach mostly from 4-8pm on weekdays and in the mornings on Saturdays. In my private time I write novels for children and play cricket when summer comes around. |
Teaching Experience: In the last 20 years have taught numerous syllabi and courses, as well as many subjects: Geography, English, Mathematics, PE, Games, RE, Humanities, History, PSHE and Science - all in a variety schools. I have seen and experienced many types of academic performance from high-performing grammar schools to comprehensives on 'special measures'. I have taught pupils with statements and pupils hoping to attain Oxbridge entrance. I have held a variety of positions of responsibility within schools, particularly in the pastoral system. I am a grade 'A' examiner for the third year in a row for AQA GCSE Geography: therefore I do have very specific knowledge of what examiners are looking for when dealing with GCSE Geography. I am currently tutoring a number of pupils to pass 11+ and 12+ entrance exams for local grammar schools. I also have students I am preparing for GCSE retakes in Maths. I am teaching the whole of the A2 Geography syllabus online to a tutee in Moscow. Where Geography A level syllabuses are concerned, I have tutored the following syllabuses in the last academic year: WJEC, Edexcel and AQA. |
Tutoring Approach: The relationships with my pupils are my strongest suit: relating and communicating with them at their level is vital to learning. An unambiguous attitude to life flows into my relationships with students: these could be characterised as demonstrative, caring, lively, fair and firm. Initially, it is vitally important to check that my tutee is 'on-board' with being tutored. In the first session I will try to identify what it is the tutee needs. I will need access to school reports and examples of my tutees work. Through discussion with my tutee and some parental input it should become clear the reason for the tutoring. Then I will be in a position to proceed and design a personalised scheme of work for my tutee. Homework will always be set, depending upon the demands placed upon the tutee by the normal school week. The tutee will be far more involved with learning than in a normal school class where they can 'hide', so prospective tutees need to expect plenty of chat and discussion reviewing work and giving feedback to me, and vice-versa. |

| Personal Description: I'm a 21 year old Hungarian girl, I currently study at Birmingham City University as an Erasmus student. I have been learning French for 8 years, my other major (besides English) at my home university is French. I have good communication skills and I'm very patient. |
Teaching Experience: I gave private lessons to fellow students and friends. I'm also doing a so called Teachers Training Track at the university which provides theoretical as well as practical knowledge about teaching as we are also required to teach primary and secondary school students in a class environment. |
Tutoring Approach: I know what it means to struggle with a subject and I know tutees need a friendly environment and patience above all. My approach to tutoring is rather communication and vocabulary based, but I'm ready to place emphasis on grammar and reading skills if needed. |

| Personal Description: I am a music graduate who has previously obtained an A grade at A level English. I work now as a self-employed musician, peripatetic music teacher and graphic/web designer. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught flute at all levels and teach music (specifically folk based) at local primary schools. I have taught at various specialist summer schools across the UK and Ireland and at Newcastle University. As well as general music I specialise in folk/traditional and offer 1:1 tuition on flute, voice (folk) and guitar. I also work within computer graphics and have 15 years of computer/I.T. experience. |
Tutoring Approach: As I was largely self-taught I favour a fairly modern approach to learning. With music this tends to focus on learning aurally and building confidence (especially in performance) I am well versed in technical details of all of my subjects and am happy to verse my self fully in any syllabus before meeting pupils. I aim to teach this alongside more contemporary methods of learning. |

| Personal Description: I am native Polish who came to Scotland 18 months ago. I am an optimistic, friendly and passionate person. At present I attend College to improve my English and I teach French and Polish. |
Teaching Experience: After I graduated from French Language and Literature at Wroclaw University (Poland) I worked three and a half year in Polish-French Friendship Association, of which I was also a member. This job gave me experience in teaching at all learning levels and with various age groups (from teenagers to seniors). I was responsible for working out teaching programmes as well as marketing and administration of the association. I was also a co-organizer of cultural events which brought students closer to French culture. I also worked in two language schools giving individual lessons to Polish management staff in French companies. For many years I have been giving one-to-one lessons to learners of all age groups (from children to adults), often helping them to prepare for various exams (DELF, university, etc.). Since I came to Scotland I also have started to teach Polish in French and English answering to a great demand. As I am a native speaker it is a very interesting experience and gives me a lot of satisfaction. |
Tutoring Approach: Teaching a foreign language for so many years while being not a native speaker gives me this advantage that I understand better what problems and difficulties learners may encounter - in French as well as in Polish. Therefore, I can help them to overcome these difficulties because I dealt with similar problems before. In tutoring it is very important to apply adequate teaching methods and materials, according to individual needs. To avoid boredom I tend to use not only the books but also to work on live language - songs, newspapers etc. For effective learning lessons should be interesting and varied and of course in friendly atmosphere :-) |

| Personal Description: I am a 27 years old Italian girl. I am curios and ready to share my knowledge. I am getting a degree in Communications for "La Sapienza", the first University in Rome. At the moment I am doing research concerning Freeview Tv. I am an au pair and I really love looking after the kids. I am improving my English, attending an advanced course at the Southgate College. |
Teaching Experience: In Italy, as a student, I was used to help children boys and adults with homework and exams.I got a lot of experience because I have been teaching for 7 years.
