Personal Description:
I am an experienced and qualified tutor - I have a mathematics PhD and have been tutoring at all levels (from GCSE through to undergraduate) for over a decade. I believe any student can become strong in maths with good tuition and a little work.

I'm also the author of Basic Maths For Dummies and Numeracy Tests For Dummies, and working on several more titles in the For Dummies range.

"I am planning on recommending Colin's tutoring to any of my friends who need help. He was patient and made the material easier to understand despite the fact that I hadn't taken math in years. I got a great grade too!"
- MC, Utah

Teaching Experience:

* Started tutoring GCSE maths while doing A-levels
* Tutored through university career
* Have always been complimented on my ability to make difficult ideas simple without patronising

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to encourage students to look at problems methodically and to help understand the ideas behind the theory by using simple, real-world examples. I teach that it's not just getting the right answer that is important, but understanding how you got there and knowing that the answer is right.

Lessons take place either online or at my classroom in Weymouth. Classes in your home are also possible, but there's a travel surcharge of at least 7 depending on where you are.

Personal Description:
I am 26 years old and am currently working as a Primary Supply Teacher in Liverpool. I graduated last year with a First Class Honours degree in a Primary Education (with QTS - Qualified Teacher Status) from the Manchester Metropolitan University. Prior to this I spent two years studying French and Spanish at the University of Manchester, before deciding to withdraw from my course in order to focus on my main passion, education. My desire is to use up-to-date strategies observed at university and in school, as well as in current educational research, to help children improve their knowledge, understanding and skills to perform more confidently in school.

I recently received a full DBS enhanced disclosure, and can provide a copy upon request, along with evidence of my completed degree and successful completion of the QTS Skills Tests in Mathematics and English.

Teaching Experience:

I spent four years developing my skills as a classroom teacher during my studies, in various classroom settings at several primary schools across the north west and in the United States. My time in school has varied from KS2 settings to Early Years and the Foundation Stage, working with small groups of children, on a one-to-one basis, and leading full class sessions that were planned and assessed independently. The majority of my training took place in Year 5 classrooms, working with children aged around 9-10. Since this time, I have worked for two different supply teaching agencies, gaining further classroom experience.

I developed two areas of specialism at university: International Perspectives, and Children's Literature and Language (literacy). During the time spent in one of my schools, I was working with dyslexic children, developing reading and spelling skills on a one-to-one basis, which included the use of ICT materials.

I have also worked with children as a summer camp counsellor in the US for the past eight years, working with boys aged from 5 to 13 years old. Whilst this work is not of an educational manner, the professionalism and skills I have acquired from the role are similarly placed to those required of an educator. My duties have been eclectic, from the basic care and nurturing of the children, to the coaching of sports games, and even practising management and organisational skills in my more recent position as a Division Assistant.

Tutoring Approach:

Whilst I understand that the purpose of tutoring is to enrich the learner's knowledge and improve their ability in a given subject, I believe in taking a more diagnostic approach, finding and tackling the specific problems of the individual learner. This I feel will help to boost their confidence in the subject, which will hopefully lead to better enjoyment and success in the school environment. Furthermore, addressing gaps in the student's knowledge is much more inherent to future success if discovered and filled earlier in the student's educational career. I also believe in recording evidence of progress - which certainly requires practice - and find the use of regular "quizzes" and "challenges" useful in allowing the learner to see their progress, as well as assigning independent homework tasks where appropriate to maintain progress between sessions. This also allows the learner to reflect and manage a plan of action for him/herself, deciding which areas to focus on next and to set their own achievable targets and learning goals.

* Pricing by subject is standard across all so that individual lessons can be tailored to cover more than one subject area in the same hour. Reading & Writing Skills and English can be combined to work on a variety of basic skills, including spelling and grammar. Similarly, a variety of Study Skills can be introduced to sessions that have a Maths focus. Sessions that require a combination of Maths and English can equally be arranged. Please make contact to discuss further any specific requirements.

Tutoring Approach:

My ultimate goal for any student is to make real and noticeable progress in their subject. Different students learn differently and it's important for me to identify their own unique learning style, not only to maximise their learning but to inspire and motivate them to learn. I endeavour to make learning both informative and enjoyable. See below a summary on my general approach:

Focus on any identified areas of weakness and build on strengths.
Adopt teaching method to suit student's learning style.
Facilitate learning; encourage students to use own ideas to solve problems.
Teach by principle; use lots of analogies/metaphors to explain concepts.
Assess progress using exercise workbooks and other test assessments.
Prepare students for exams; going through past papers and exam techniques.

Personal Description:
I'm a 25 year old Mathematics graduate from Bristol University. I spent my 3rd year abroad, studying maths on a French island off the east coast of Africa, and becoming fluent in French.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching all abilities and ages, and a good track record of results, with pupils always attaining or surpassing their targets.

Tutoring Approach:

Maths
In sessions I generally stick quite closely to the course, revisiting the school lessons and homework to target weak areas, whilst also working on a more thorough general understanding. When possible I let the tutee lead the session, so that they get the help they actually need, usually asking a few quick questions on any material skipped over to check for problems, but my teaching methods vary to suit my tutees.

French
I teach fairly independently of the school topics, revising grammar where necessary, as it is good grammar which makes everything else possible, but concentrating on speaking French as much as possible during the sessions, especially with A-level students, since this gives them the confidence they need to access the higher marks. I try to minimise rote learning as much as possible by working on generalisations and explaining the reason, and sometimes history, behind the otherwise random and confusing spellings and exceptions.

Personal Description:
I'm an extremely strong mathematician, scoring top grades through school (including scoring 300/300 in my AS Level Further Maths), and went on to a heavily maths-based degree in Civil Engineering with Management. I'm a GCSE Maths Examiner, so I know exactly what is required to get your target grade.

Aside from teaching Maths, I've had a wide range of experiences - I've helped set up an community project in my friend's village in Tanzania and have taught some of our sponsored students out there. I also work as an actor, and am filling the gaps with supply teaching and private tutoring.

I've recently moved to Watford in summer 2014, so I have lots of gaps to fill with tutoring sessions.

Teaching Experience:

* Teaching and working with young people as a volunteer or professionally since 2004.

* Qualified as a Maths teacher in 2006, and taught in numerous secondary schools, ranging from very challenging schools through to a high performing grammar school.

* Have taught the full ability range from low ability Year 7 through to A Level Further Maths.

* GCSE Maths Examiner since March 2012.

* Tutoring 9-18 year olds since April 2012.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm keen to help pupils understand how maths works, and not simply learn a standard set of instructions to follow to reach the "right" answer.

With the new changes coming to Maths GCSE, having a good understanding is more important than ever - students simply cannot get by on rote-learning the method alone any more. Students need to be able to explain their answer clearly, and I make sure I incorporate this into my lessons.

Of course, approach will vary substantially depending on the student.

Students who are very close to their exams will need more focus on how to get the best result.

With younger students there will be more opportunity to focus on their understanding, and exploring how Maths works. I try to avoid simply teaching "How To Get The Right Answer To This Particular Type Of Exam Question", which might get them through tests in the short term, but is rather less helpful to them in the long term.

As a tutor I'd be choosing the most appropriate approach for the student.

Although I specialise in Maths, I am more than comfortable with science, and can also help students up to secondary school level in this subject. I will also do English with Maths at primary level.

GROUP DISCOUNTS:
* 5 discount per student if working in a pair.
* 10 discount per student in groups of 3 or more.

NOTE: Mostly I'd prefer to tutor from home. I'm on public transport so if you're near good transport links I can also travel to you.

Personal Description:
I am a 2nd year Business student at Cardiff University with a very decent academic record. I scored 8 As in my O levels in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, Urdu, Pakistan Studies and Islamic Studies. In my A level I scored 2 Bs in Accounting and Business and 2 Ds in economics and maths. I consider myself to be a student who grasps every concept quite quickly and can deliver my learning skills to people who wish to learn from me.

Teaching Experience:

I do not have any formal teaching experience which is why I will charge the minimum wage of 9 pounds and hour. Since I am the eldest of my siblings as well as my cousins, I have spent a great deal of time teaching them important concepts required for their O levels. As I scored well in my O levels, often parents in my neighbourhood sent their children to learn from me but I did that free of cost.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe it is very important first of all that my student is comfortable with me and does not hesitate to ask even the most stupid of questions. I take my work very seriously and in this case i intend to make sure that I have successfully delivered what is needed to in terms of important concepts and ideas. I look forward to excellence in whatever I do whether it is sports or academics and thus I want my students to acknowledge me and give me credit and remember me if they secure good grades hopefully.

Personal Description:
I am a 24 year old Primary PGCE student, with a range of experience working with children and young people. In particular, I have worked with children who experience barriers to learning and I enjoy aiding them to experience success in education. I am a fun but hard-working and reliable individual with a passion for working with children.

Teaching Experience:

Before embarking on my current course, I worked as a teaching assistant in both primary and post-primary settings. I provided support to children with English as an additional language and with special educational needs in both settings. I was responsible for planning, setting targets and assessment of the children I worked with. I also supervised a Homework Club, providing assistance to post-primary children in various subjects including children with special education needs and those who are gifted and talented. During this 2 year period, I tutored a number of children in the evenings on a one to one basis ranging in age from Year 1 to Year 6, and I developed very positive relationships with the families I worked with.

I have a degree in Speech and Language Therapy, and during university placements, often took on a teaching role working with children one-to-one or in small groups; assessing and delivering therapy in a child-centred approach. I have completed my first school placement for my PGCE course; I worked in a Year 1 class in which I observed and evaluated the class teacher, then taught lessons independently.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe using a child-centred approach is key to success. I consider what might interest and motivate the child in terms of resources and materials, and work at a pace appropriate for the child. It is important for the child to experience success but also to be appropriately challenged in order to reach their potential. I embrace a fun approach when working with children and would like to provide them with a positive learning experience.

Personal Description:
My Name is Maddy, I am 19 years old and have recently taken A levels in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Biology at Bedales School. I have a place to study medicine at Cambridge in October 2014. I am able to tutor Chemistry and Biology to A level and Maths and Physics to GCSE level. I am also able to help students applying to study medicine with interview preparation, and preparation for the UKCAT and BMAT exams. I am also able to help with Oxbridge interview preparation for students applying to study medicine, medical sciences, natural sciences, biology or other similar courses.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working as a full time tutor giving one to one tuition in biology, chemistry, physics and maths. At school I spent a lot of time helping other students who were struggling with their studies. Other students at school often asked me for help with their academic work because i am good at explaining complicated concepts in a way thats easier to understand. I am always very patient and have very good problem solving skills. I spent an hour a week for 6 months volunteering at a local primary school teaching the children to read and use computers. I have now been working as a full time tutor for sever months.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very good at explaining difficult concepts in a way that is simpler and easier to understand. I am also calm and patient with students who find it hard to understand a subject. I usually work through topics areas or questions that the student is finding particularly difficult or we can go through past papers or work on exam technique. I think that all students learn in different ways and so I try to tailor the sessions to the individual student.

I am a man of destiny who knows that beyond this hill lies another, the journey is never complete!! I am 22 years and just sat my final set of ACCA exams with Advanced Tax and Advanced Financial Management as options. I am looking forward to do my MSc in Risk Engineering ,to further enhance my financial management and statistical skills.
As per my previous qualifications, I have done GCSE with Maths, Add Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Statistics as major. and ALevel with Accountancy ,Economics and Mathematics.
Apart from this i have been awarded the highest scorer in my college in 2 of my ACCA exams and also bagged the title "Mental Mathematician".Also during my Alevel I was awarded CIMA Certificate which was only awarded to 10 best accountancy students in the school after going through a series of quizzes .
To sum it up , i believe life is a constant challenge and only those emerge triumphant who accept this challenge and prove their mettle.

Teaching Experience:

no teaching experience as per UK is concerned, however i have been Teaching Assistant to my Accountancy lecturer during my Alevel and helped a lot of students gain maximum grades in Mathematics and Accountancy both.

Tutoring Approach:

A thorough understanding of the syllabus and what is deemed to be examined. This will be followed by a topic to topic completion first and then atleast 5 years past papers completion. By the end of my tutoring , my student will have a sound insight of all the topics and enough knowledge to attain maximum marks and hopefully a better grade in exams.
