Personal Description:
I am a very positive individual that likes to carry out tasks efficiently. I feel that I am a motivator that can relate to a diverse range of people from my experiences from travelling and working in a variety of environments also I have worked with children from different backgrounds and educational levels and with my specific tailored programme of study I can help your child excel beyond your expectations.

Teaching Experience:

I have relevant experience with GCSE and A-level students from one to one tutoring to small group teaching of up to 4. I also have taught English previously when travelling in Asia.

Tutoring Approach:

From my years of experience of tutoring I find that confidence is vital towards success, which I instill in all my tutees.

My style of tutoring is very interactive with visual aids and diagrams with clear concise logical explanations of concepts and theories of the topics to be taught.

My strategy involves building a solid foundation in topics with a step-by-step approach where the basics are covered to ensure that at advanced stages, the tutee can excel.

If the tutee is unclear with a certain problem, breakdown of the problem into individual steps and working though each step with the tutee until the answer is derived to ensure clear understanding in approaching and conquering problems.

I enjoy teaching and researching. Currently, I am working as a researcher at the university.
My area of expertise includes, Biology, Maths, Chemistry and Pharmacology.
In my quest of higher education currently I am working as a research Scientist in molecular pharmacology, and cell biology. My project is associated with Lister Hospital, Stevenage, UK.

Teaching Experience:

Visiting Lecturer at the university level From last 3 years. Teaching students at the university level theoretically as well as wet lab experiments. I had 6 Nuffield bursary students to teach in the university in last 2 years. All of them are very competent and few of them went to imperial collage, cambridge, oxford and kings for the graduation.

Tutoring Approach:

If a student is not have an interest and intellectual in to the subject, I take it as a challenge. I prefer to correlate the tedious concept of science with the normal day to day life and give a flavor of importance or demand of a particular subject.
Give me an opportunity to introduce myself and I am confident that I will not disappoint you. So far, none of my student left my tuition and stayed with me for longer.

Personal Description:
I have a BSc in Psychology from Leeds University, graded 2:1, an MSc from Bristol University in Nutrition and Public Health, graded distinction, and an Mphil form Cambridge in Public Health graded distinction. I am currently working on my PhD in Public Health, based in Cambridge.

Prior to this, I studied A levels in Biology, Psychology and English Literature, and AS levels in Geography and Photography, all graded A. I am looking to tutor any subject related to these areas, including A-level and undergraduate.

Teaching Experience:

some tutoring experience and I have spent a number of years both learning and working in an academic environment, which required working within groups of fellow students, completing learning activities, developing presentations and explaining concepts to those requiring further insight.

Tutoring Approach:

I find I learn best by attempting to understand a concept fully and by placing it in a relevant context, rather than by learning off by heart. I would hope to help a tutee learn by these methods. I think that learning the context and relevance of a concept can make a subject more interesting, and hence more memorable.

I also find breaking down work into manageable chunks and using various techniques (colour coding, acronyms etc.) can assist memory, and my background in Psychology means I have some understanding of how to apply these.

Personal Description:
I am a masters student currently studying towards a Masters in Public Health Nutrition at Queen Margaret University, and a science graduate with a Bachelor of Science, Open from the Open University specialising in molecular and cell biology with additional interests in psychology, neuroscience, infectious disease and chemistry.

I love science, especially life sciences such as biology and health science, and spend a lot of my personal time researching new developments and techniques in scientific investigation. As a tutor, this means I have a background understanding to help you to understand how we know what we know about biology, psychology and the sciences in general. My enthusiasm guarantees that no tutoring session will ever be monotonous or boring and my alternative approaches to learning, memorisation and revision will help you to achieve your full potential.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience tutoring other adult learners online, I have also tutored at Intermediate 2 level and Higher as well as university level and take great pride in frequently improving marks significantly enough to take several students from failing the main exam to a B or above at resit! I also have every day tutoring experience dealing with the thousand and one questions put to me by my six year old son!

I also toured with The Edinburgh International Science Festival as a science communicator working with children from primary 4 through to 7 in 2013 as part of their Generation Science Tour, I feel this has given me a valuable insight into how to make science accessible and fun.

Tutoring Approach:

I take an interactive approach and try to find the best method for each student. For some this may be drawing, diagrams or flow charts, others the use of modeling to help with understanding, some may learn more effectively using text books or written tutoring techniques. I also make use of a wide range of freely available resources such as videos and interactive quizzes to reinforce the learning process. All of this is provided in line with the curriculum for excellence requirements.

Personal Description:
I am a dedicated, conscientious teacher with 29 years of teaching experience both within the independent and state sector. I have taught children from 3 to 13 years old in various subjects with different abilities. I have strong communication and interpersonal skills. I am dependable, responsible and extremely well organised. I am open to new ideas and learning strategies. I am caring and personable and believe every child matters. I aim to make a difference to every child and ensure that he/she becomes independent and self-confident with the skills and tools required to develop. I have the ability and resources to assess each child and then put together a progamme and timetable of the areas that need attention. I provide regular re-inforcement and praise and give feedback to the child and parents.
I have extensive knowledge of the educational curriculum and have had much experience of SATS papers and Common Entrance examinations.
Being a mother of 2 boys I know how children behave and how to get the best from them.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently providing 1:1 numeracy and literacy tuition in two Leeds schools. This involves one hour per child for a 10 week programme. I also run private tuition lessons from my own home or visiting children.
I am also a supply teacher for local teaching agencies.
Prior to this I worked from February 2000- September 2010 at Gateways School, Harewood, Leeds an independent school for girls. I was a form teacher for years 3,4,5 and 6 but specialised in RE and Latin.
From September 1997- August 2000 I was a supply teacher for Leeds Girls' High School, Leeds Grammar School and various state schools.
From September 1994 - August 1997 I was a form teacher at Beech House School, Headingley, Leeds.
From September 1990 to 1995 whilst having 2 boys of my own I taught various children from the ages of 4-11
From September 986 to January 1990 I was a form teacher for years 5 and 6 at Leeds Girls'High School

Tutoring Approach:

The main purpose of one to one tuition is to diagnose and address gaps in a child's learning and any misconceptions which may be deep rooted. It also provides a powerful opportunity to address personal and internalised processes and involves equipping the learner with appropriate strategies, new ways of thinking about a problem.
My first task is to find out from the parent/s what are their concerns about their child and what they are expecting. I would provide details of my extensive experience in providing 1:1 tuition and the success of achieving a programme that suits the individual needs of the child. A programme of lessons would be planned and then delivered using the following lesson format: -
*sharing objectives and learning outcomes with the child,
*identifying the pupils' knowledge, strategies and skills,
*modelling the process to be developed by talking it through,
*allowing the pupil to explore the activity independently as I observe and interact identifying the strengths and areas of misconception for attention and discussion
* revise the work, refining the child's knowledge, understanding and skills
* provide an opportunity to consolidate learning through further practice and discussion
* child reflects on the progress made towards the learning objective, the strategies used and how the skills and knowledge can be applied back in the classroom
*set targets

I would plan a range of varied activities to engage the pupil and support learning. I would provide opportunities for the pupil to talk, rehearse ideas and ask questions. The key to good practice is to praise successes to boost self confidence. I have a thorough understanding of what the pupil needs to be able to do to move forward.

Personal Description:
As a scientist I have had extensive experience of teaching in an academic and lab environment, alongside interactive science at festivals and museums. I have always enjoyed teaching and I am passionate about igniting curiosity about science in those whom I teach. I have worked on a professional and voluntary basis with children from primary school age all the way up to Masters degree level.

Science can be a daunting subject and I appreciate the need to build confidence by tailoring explanations to different levels of understanding, and different types of personality.

My own scientific knowledge comes from understanding a topic rather than parrot-fashion memorising, I believe this is the best long-term learning method and therefore I will use this approach where possible with my students by building up from the basics.

I am very supportive of questions as working in the scientific field has taught me that there are no stupid questions and I think that learning is more efficient when a student enjoys what they are being taught. I also like to incorporate every day examples as I believe this can make science topics come alive and become relevant to an individual.

Teaching Experience:

- Private Tuition (2013): Last summer I tutored two year 10 students in GCSE level chemistry, both of which had a notable increase in their grades. One student after only 1 month of tuition made the remarkable achievement of an increase in grades from 34% to 64%.
- Work Experience Weeks (2005-current): I have supervised 16 A-level/undergraduate students for a work experience week. This involves tours of the labs, explanation of the science behind certain experiments and how drug development works (with written materials), as well as supervision of experiments.
- MSc Workshop (2011-2014): I created materials and helped run a workshop in Protein Modelling for the UCL MSc Drug Design course.
- Cancer Research UK (2011): Made a video and helped the Science Communication team create an interactive game to help the public understand how drugs bind into proteins.
- Volunteer Usher at Cheltenham Science Festival (2008-current): In groups I have helped supervised school classes doing experiments such as making a hot air balloon from tissue paper, drawing organs on a t-shirt (primary school), extracting DNA from a strawberry, making paper model DNA and using chemistry modelling equipment (secondary school)
- Cardiff Science Week (2004-2007): Supervised students with various science exhibits such as fishing for insects from a pond (primary school) and making a cell from a balloon and popping it to look at the inside of the cell (secondary school).
- Science Writing (2008-current): Writing articles at Cheltenham Science Festival, for London Science Museum and the Royal Society (for non-scientists and Children) has greatly improved by ability to write materials for tutoring. I have a portfolio if you are interested in this work.

Tutoring Approach:

As well as the approach I discussed above I also provide and create my own teaching materials with visual and interactive aids. I prefer to familiarise myself with the school syllabus so I can tailor my tutoring to the pupil's needs.

For any older pupils I can also offer advice on careers as well as help with CVs/applications to university.

I can also on request do small fun "kitchen" experiments to inspire interest and excitement in science.

Personal Description:
I have recently completed my PhD in neuroscience at the University of Cambridge. My studies culminated in the generation of a new model of decision making. This work has recently been accepted by the Journal of Neuroscience and, subject to review, will be published in Summer 2014. It is my genuine hope that this new model will be accepted as the standard textbook model and help contribute to our understanding of a number of neurological disorders.

I also studied Natural Sciences as an undergraduate at Cambridge, specialising in Neuroscience with modules in Experimental Psychology, Physiology, Biology of Cells and Evolution.

Teaching Experience:

I supervised Neuroscience undergraduate students at Cambridge during the course of my PhD.

I have publicly presented my work at a number of talks and seminars where clear communication to a general audience was paramount.

I also have experience tutoring both GCSE, and A-level biology.

I would also feel comfortable teaching many science-related fields as well as 11+ and Oxbridge interview preparation.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the right tutor can inspire a lifelong interest in their students, and I hope to convey my passion for the sciences to my tutees. In my opinion, the best tutor assesses their students' needs and tailors the material to their requirements. I think its not uncommon for academics to fail in this area. However, I feel one of my greatest skills is the ability to convey complex concepts tailored to the needs of the individual.

Having not stopped starting secondary school I am educated in all three sciences including maths up to GCSE level, chemistry and maths up to AS level and Biology to A level, and am confident at providing tuition in all of these areas.

Currently I am going over A level maths and chemistry and wouldn't hesitate to provide tutoring in these areas if needed. Additionally I am on the receiving end of tuition, having started learning German and am looking at starting BSL lessons in the near future.

Based in the Basildon area, I am able to travel within the local area using either my quick set of legs, my somewhat rusty mountain bike or good old public transport. I am free throughout the daytime at both weekdays and weekends, however my weekdays are likely to be filled soon, but evening tuition is not a problem

Teaching Experience:

Previously I have mentored several students who struggled with their GCSE maths and science and required the necessary C grades to gain entry into College. Whilst at university I helped local A level biology and/or chemistry students gain top grades by filling in any gaps in their knowledge and clarifying parts of the curricula they were not confident with.

Job wise, I am pursuing a teaching assistant position and currently volunteer in a local school science department, where I help prepare for science lessons and assist in demonstrations. As a result I am still in the know how regarding exam boards curriculum

Tutoring Approach:

My approach focusses on restoring confidence and making sure students maintain high expectations. I find exposure to exam papers, although thankfully not in such strict conditions, is incredibly effective in preparing students for their exams and helps overcome those pesky exam fears. Knowing the curricula is great by marks on exam papers matter, and it is a great feeling to know that when you sit the exam you know what to expect and how to answer correctly.

As science is a visual subject I try to add as many practical and integrative elements to my tutoring, which I find makes the subject matter much more memorable and less dry.

I am open to tutoring/answering any questions via skype/email/phone.

Personal Description:
I have a BSc in medicinal chemistry (1st class Hons)

This means that aside from losing myself in research papers and a lab for four years, I can give sound advice on personal development, exam technique and revision skills.
Having studied medicinal chemistry, a large part of my degree covered human physiology, disease and drugs which is why I also offer biology as a secondary tuition.

Above A-level my speciality is in organic and synthetic chemistry, I can help with all aspects including mechanistic rationale, retrosynthesis and enantio/ stereoselective syntheses as well as the all important dissertation/ viva.

Academic transcripts or examples of my work are available on request.

I'm easy going, clinical and analytical which are all important traits for good academic progression.

I am willing to travel for sessions although travel expenses will need to be covered.

Teaching Experience:

Creating a colourful life - Loughborough University
These courses ran to educate children between primary and A-level in various aspects of inorganic chemistry. Topics covered were designed to show the diversity of chemistry applied industrially to things such as thermochromic paints, fingerprinting and trace detection.

A-level chemistry tuition - Private tuition 2012 - 2014
I have already tutored a small number of students who have gone on to successfully complete there A - levels with progression to UK universities.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe strongly that no two people learn in the same manner; while some respond well to repeat readings by themselves, other people learn well through lecturing and taking notes. It's fundamental to get an understanding of this before commencing tutoring, personally i liked having spoken word followed up by practice exam questions to apply the knowledge.

Second to actually tutoring the academic aspects of science, I emphasise the importance of good exam technique. A large part of any tutoring would be aimed at ensuring the student understands what an exam question is asking and what is relevant in response - a sound knowledge with knowing how to apply it is a key to success.
