Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic and committed teacher and enjoy teaching all subjects, in particular maths and literacy. I strive to make learning interactive and fun for children and get a lot of satisfaction from helping children to achieve their potential.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified primary school teacher and work mainly with 7-11 year olds. Prior to qualifying I worked for several years as a teaching assistant, often working on a one-to-one basis with children. I have a good range of teaching methods which I use to help children develop their knowledge and learning skills. I am able to build strong relationships with children, encouraging and leading them to become confident, independent learners. In addition to primary teaching I also have experience of teaching GCSE maths and level 2 adult maths.

Tutoring Approach:

All children are individuals and learn in different ways. I would undertake an initial assessment for your child and tailor lessons accordingly. I will always look at what children can do and work with them to discover the gaps in their knowledge and any misconceptions they may have. I feel it is important to set achievable targets and build up children's confidence in their own abilities. Linking the teaching of literacy and maths to other subjects and real life situations makes learning more meaningful to children.

Personal Description:
I am a trainee science teacher at the University of Manchester, and I am studying for a PhD in Life Sciences, with a focus on breast cancer research.

I absolutely love teaching science, to students of all ages. I am very patient, organised and reliable, and will work very hard to make sure you get the results you are after.

Teaching Experience:

I am in the last few weeks of my teacher training year, and I have secured a Chemistry teaching job at a top independent school in Cheshire. As part of this training year, I have experience in teaching all ages and science subjects.

I am also an experienced science tutor at both GCSE and A-level, with four years experience.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring style is very interactive- I think it is important to find out how someone learns best, and then tailor my sessions to reflect that.

I understand the difficulties of learning science, particularly the terminology, and so I try and break through that barrier by explaining things in simple terms.

I am good at explaining difficult topics in fun ways that are easy to understand and remember.

Personal Description:
As a scientist I have had extensive experience of teaching in an academic and lab environment, alongside interactive science at festivals and museums. I have always enjoyed teaching and I am passionate about igniting curiosity about science in those whom I teach. I have worked on a professional and voluntary basis with children from primary school age all the way up to Masters degree level.

Science can be a daunting subject and I appreciate the need to build confidence by tailoring explanations to different levels of understanding, and different types of personality.

My own scientific knowledge comes from understanding a topic rather than parrot-fashion memorising, I believe this is the best long-term learning method and therefore I will use this approach where possible with my students by building up from the basics.

I am very supportive of questions as working in the scientific field has taught me that there are no stupid questions and I think that learning is more efficient when a student enjoys what they are being taught. I also like to incorporate every day examples as I believe this can make science topics come alive and become relevant to an individual.

Teaching Experience:

- Private Tuition (2013): Last summer I tutored two year 10 students in GCSE level chemistry, both of which had a notable increase in their grades. One student after only 1 month of tuition made the remarkable achievement of an increase in grades from 34% to 64%.
- Work Experience Weeks (2005-current): I have supervised 16 A-level/undergraduate students for a work experience week. This involves tours of the labs, explanation of the science behind certain experiments and how drug development works (with written materials), as well as supervision of experiments.
- MSc Workshop (2011-2014): I created materials and helped run a workshop in Protein Modelling for the UCL MSc Drug Design course.
- Cancer Research UK (2011): Made a video and helped the Science Communication team create an interactive game to help the public understand how drugs bind into proteins.
- Volunteer Usher at Cheltenham Science Festival (2008-current): In groups I have helped supervised school classes doing experiments such as making a hot air balloon from tissue paper, drawing organs on a t-shirt (primary school), extracting DNA from a strawberry, making paper model DNA and using chemistry modelling equipment (secondary school)
- Cardiff Science Week (2004-2007): Supervised students with various science exhibits such as fishing for insects from a pond (primary school) and making a cell from a balloon and popping it to look at the inside of the cell (secondary school).
- Science Writing (2008-current): Writing articles at Cheltenham Science Festival, for London Science Museum and the Royal Society (for non-scientists and Children) has greatly improved by ability to write materials for tutoring. I have a portfolio if you are interested in this work.

Tutoring Approach:

As well as the approach I discussed above I also provide and create my own teaching materials with visual and interactive aids. I prefer to familiarise myself with the school syllabus so I can tailor my tutoring to the pupil's needs.

For any older pupils I can also offer advice on careers as well as help with CVs/applications to university.

I can also on request do small fun "kitchen" experiments to inspire interest and excitement in science.

Personal Description:
I'm a young, open-minded, Italian girl.
Even if I graduated in Life Sciences, I always had a particular talent for languages.
I love reading and writing, so much that I made a regular activity out of it, managing a website of book reviews.

Teaching Experience:

I spent the last year (2012/2013) tutoring a French boy - 12 years old - who just arrived in England, therefore not able to speak English at all. After one month of my tutoring, he was able to successfully pass the admission test at the local Grammar School.
At the moment I am working as freelance translator and language tutor.
I am a certified TEFL (Teacher of English as Foreign Language).

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching is mostly about communication.
When tutoring, I make a point in being the most clear and open-minded as possible, to make it not just easy, but also entertaining to learn the daily lesson.
In addition to that, most of my effort is into finding the best way for the student to self-improve and organize their learning method, so to reach a new level of independence, even when learning their least beloved subject.

Personal Description:
I am a recent Microbiology graduate, currently working in a leading veterinary sciences laboratory, with previous experience working in the Science department of a local Grammar school.

Having tutored throughout my degree, and not being long out of education myself, I empathise with students and understand the problems and challenges they face with certain aspects of their course. With a fresh and modern approach, I guide pupils to achieve a fuller understanding of their subject.

Teaching Experience:

I have been regularly tutoring GCSE and A-Level over the past 4 years, and have had pupils with a wide range of abilities and backgrounds, all of which have had successful exam results.

I am also a qualified TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teacher, and use the skills from this to present Science lessons in a clear and concise manner.

Having worked in a school as a Science technician, I am also aware of the challenges pupils face with the current topics and common problems which regularly arise. With this hindsight I aim to tailor lessons to tackle problems head on, and provide the time to learn which cannot always be achieved in a busy classroom.

Tutoring Approach:

I always work to a plan, and tailor each lesson to what the pupil wants to explore. With a wealth of materials, I aim to provide the student with the information they need, and provide my own notes designed to help the students with their individual problem.

Understanding the importance of these examination periods, the course syllabus is the backbone to the lessons, and regular quizzes are had during the lessons to test progress and understanding.

Teaching Experience:

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have always found teaching rewarding. However, my passion began from the normal everyday routine teaching on the wards when I was liaising with colleagues, students and informing patients as to their condition and the process forward. Being a dyslexic, I found it easy to discuss core concepts of (medicine, biology, etc,) debate and to visualize them rather than the traditional sense of readings lots of chapters across a number of books.

Following on from this experience, I began teaching a number of students privately at University ranging from their coursework, to subject matters and then to examination preparation. In the process of teaching, I enjoy developing a rapport with a small number of students and watching their understanding of the core concepts grow, but also the result the students achieved from their institutions.

Taught students from a diverse range of backgrounds, abilities and levels.

MY SPECIALIST SUBJECTS
1) Biology
2) Medicine
3) Anatomy
4) Physiology
5) Clinical Skills
6) Study Skills
7) Research skills
8) Thesis writing
9) Interview skills
10) University admission process
11) Proof reading coursework

Tutoring Approach:

MY OBJECTIVES
1) Enjoy the art of teaching
2) Assist the tutee to achieve their goals
3) Deliver high quality tuition with an emphasis on medicine
4) Engage with the tutee by assisting them in their endeavors
5) Improve the students confidence, understanding and grades of the student
6) Ensure that the student has an understanding of clinical concepts and principles
7) Enhance a students ability to think under examination pressure
8) Reflect on feedback given to me from the student

1) Every student requires tutoring for different reasons; therefore I believe that an initial student-tutor discussion is vital so that we can establish a level of tutoring that works efficiently for you to flourish.
2) Been teaching for 3 years, in different settings, at different levels across a range of environments.
3) Taught many age groups
4) I have had fantastic success with my past students and hope to pass this on to future students.

Approach of tutoring:
1) The goals and timescales is dictated by the student from the initial meeting & based on this; an greed set of measurable learning parameters is formed
2) Friendly approach to learning
3) The student enjoys the learning process
4) I advocate a clinical problem-based approach to learning.
5) Integration of analogies
6) Stepwise progression of the subject in terms of depth, complexity and integration
7) Encourage the student to ask questions
8) Provide relevant information
9) Promote independent thinking, pattern recognition and problem solving abilities
10) Request regular feedback from the student on what they found useful and how we could course correct in order to maximise time, enhance goals and course correct.
Approach of tutoring with students and their disabilities:
Being a dyslexic learner myself, I understand your pain, frustration and have a lot of experience to streamline your learning process. So don't be afraid to discuss learning difficulties with me. Its not a question of ability, understanding or context, rather the format in which it is delivered. In my experience, students with disabilities make fantastic professionals. Previous experience working with disabled students; dyslexia, dysgraphia and ADHD.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY
I have delivered a variety of formats in the past and below are my past approaches and I am happy to tailor the tutoring to the style that suits you best. In the past, students have preferred subject knowledge to be delivered in a simple method, step wise, structured milestones.

Student orientated:
1) Focus of my teaching is geared towards modern medicine and practical, clinical application, with an emphasis on research and evidence based medicine.
2) Depend largely on the students aims and course requirements
3) Happy to help teach problem areas and prepare for exams
4) Focuses on core concepts, application with practical examples, and how these are tested in the examination
5) Explore subject areas in more depth than might be possible in time limited lectures
6) Leave students with problem sets between sessions
7) Can provide crib sheets so that the student can focus on the discussions and core concepts

Lectures:
1) Share my knowledge, subject matter and engage with you in a challenging and thought provoking way.
2) There will be an expectation that the student has read around the subject matter of the lecture, which will add to your understanding and develop your critical and analytical skills
Seminars
1) Present and discuss ideas in smaller groups, engage in lively debates to share your interpretations and opinions with other students
2) Examination crash courses with a group of students- is a popular request

SUPPORTING THE STUDENT
Supporting the student is key; therefore the transition to a new way of learning can be a challenge, with university study differing greatly from college and school learning. I intend to guide you towards interactive resources tailored for your needs. As your tutor, I will help and advice on study related issues and help you monitor and reflect on your academic progress. I will assist you with online resources to best leverage your studies.
