Personal Description:
I am an elite tutor specialising in English and Drama. I also speak Italian to near fluency. I am an honours graduate of Trinity College, Cambridge, with a masters degree in English Literature. I am now a full time theatre director, working freelance. I have worked on shows at the National Theatre, the Almeida Theatre and in the West End.

I specialise particularly in Oxbridge admissions applications and drama school applications.

My literature specialties are Shakespeare, American literature and all literature of the last thirty years.

I am extremely energetic, dedicated and sociable. During my time at university I was the Welfare Officer of the college students' union and the college rugby club captain. The ability to juggle my time and commitments has shown me to be organised and focused, while the roles themselves required me to be approachable, friendly and motivational.

Teaching Experience:

I have now been tutoring consistently for over six years. Every one of my students has achieved the highest possible grade in the subjects in which I have tutored them.

Testimonies from previous students:

'We could never have done it without Tom'

'Tom was everything we could have asked for in a tutor. Helpful, reliable and seemed to gel immediately with our son'

'Tom was able to sort out many difficult areas in the syllabus.
Through the course of the lessons I gained the confidence and clarity needed for a very important exam.
I highly recommend Tom as he is a patient and kind teacher that I believe can provide help to any student struggling with drama.'

I worked as a volunteer teacher at an international school in Swaziland for three months, running drama classes and English classes. I also coached the school rugby team. In the drama classes I focused very much on basic dramatic skills through games and exercises, while the English classes were much more specific, focusing on Shakespeare texts and working in particular on Graham Swift's 'Waterland', which was a set text for the IB exam that year. I am currently affiliated with the National Youth Theatre as well as several drama schools; I work with educational projects in theatres and drama schools around London, working closely and extensively with students and young people.

Tutoring Approach:

When I tutor I like to be very open and conversational with the student. What is especially important is that the student comes away with the belief not that they have been dictated to, but that they have discovered things for themselves. I ask a lot of questions, guiding the student towards a conclusion rather than imposing it directly. This makes for a very interactive and exciting experience, an experience that contrasts perfectly with the proscriptive, curricular methods of traditional schoolteaching.

My approach also enables me to adapt to the needs of each individual student, and to have conversations both with them and with their parents. I recognise that each tutee has specific, unique needs, and I am totally prepared to adjust my style to such needs.

Personal Description:
I am an English and Film graduate from De Montfort University and am currently living in Croydon. I have a passion for English, and literature in general, and I am very keen to teach it to students. I enjoy movies, cycling, travelling and reading and I plan to do an MA.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English in various forms for over 4 years. I moved to Korea and was a full time English teacher in Seoul teaching academy students aged 4-14 for two years. I developed my teaching methods greatly and now I can show my private pupils how to succeed in their studies.

Before then I did substantial tutoring with individuals and groups in Leicester and London for 2 years. I have taught English to French children on a summer camp and developed effective ways of communicating with students. The experience of teaching English made me sensitive to what a student needs.

I also participated in a mentoring programme to help children in care build their confidence.

Tutoring Approach:

My strategy is to have the tutee and I discuss what goals the tutee wishes to achieve and together we will work to achieve those goals (e.g. coursework, poetry, exam prep, ESL skills). The tutee may bring before me any aspect of English literature or language that he/she wants to improve and we will work on it. For example, the tutee could show me some coursework he/she is doing and we could go through it and see what English skills need to be practised. I know how to teach the skills needed to pass national exams.

Personal Description:
I am a recent graduate from the University of Dundee and have an MA degree in Politics and Public Policy. Alongside my degree, I have several years' experience of tutoring and have achieved excellent results for all my students.

I aspire to get into classroom teaching, specialising in History and hope to begin my PGCE training course in September. As such, I am eager to build on my previous tutoring experience (see further details below) and gain further experience with students of all ages and abilities. I relish a challenge and really enjoy working with students one-on-one.

Teaching Experience:

I began tutoring in summer 2012 by tutoring my friend's sister for her English Language, English Literature and History GCSEs; she went on to attain 'A' grades in all subjects. She then recommended my services to several of her classmates and, under my tutoring, three of her classmates who I was tutoring for the same subjects also went on to attain 'A' grades.

I am confident in teaching Politics at A Level, as it is what my undergraduate degree focused on and also having had experience of working in politics during the last general election, I feel I have a comprehensive knowledge of current affairs that is an asset in the classroom.

I also have three younger siblings, aged two, 13 and 17 and regularly assist the older two with their school work.

Tutoring Approach:

Having been tutoring for nearly four years now, I feel very confident in my ability to get the best out of any given student in my subjects and I know what each student is different and has different educational needs.

What I specialise in is exam technique; preparing the student for the type of question which they are likely to be asked in an examination and working closely with them to ensure that they can comfortably deal with anything that the exam throws at them; so there are no surprises on the day.

Having sat exactly the same exams myself (and being young enough to remember sitting the exams myself), I know exactly what is required of the student in order to get the very top grades, having been taught exam technique myself by my own teachers at school.

It is fair to say that my tutoring style is based, at least in part, on the style of the teachers who taught me all the way through my academic career, but particularly those who taught me at GCSE and A Level. I am now very keen to pass on the knowledge I was lucky enough to gain onto the next generation.

Personal Description:
Annie has enjoyed teaching Functional English (equivalent to GCSE English) for the past two years. As a published writer/novelist, her passion for writing is apparent in every lesson - whether for children or for adults.

Her degree in Theology and her position as Assistant Examiner for OCR, marking GCSE Religious Studies exam papers every summer, gives her a unique insight into the examination requirements. She has had educational resources published, relating also to GCSE Religious Studies. This all means she can teach 'to spec' every step of the way, in a lively, thorough and often humorous manner.

She is also enthusiastic about preparing KS2 children for their English SATs, and assisting AS/A2 Philosophy students with their course.

Finally, she is fully qualified to teach EFL/ESOL (English to speakers of other languages) and would welcome the opportunity to take on more students in this area.

Teaching Experience:

Two years teaching Functional English (adults).
Twelve years teaching assistant for KS2 (lots of SATS work).
Some A Level Philosophy teaching.
Some lecturing for degree course (Bristol Baptist College, Theology/ethics).
Assistant Examiner for OCR, marking GCSE Religious Studies exams.
Author of educational resources (GCSE Religious Studies) for Zig-Zag publishers.
Author of two novels (published).
18 years of voluntary youthwork (church), mainly teenagers.

Personal Description:
Qualified teacher with experience in private and state schools. Education is my passion and I will always go the extra mile to get the very best out of my students.

In my spare time, I do a LOT of volunteering.

I am very active within the UK Scouting Association and run my own Beaver scout group; assist in a Scout group and assist in an Explorer Scout group. I also manage media for the whole Wolds and Coast region and regularly have articles in the newspaper.

When I aren't scouting, you can find me volunteering with the youth group at the Spotlight Theatre or at The Hangout which is a youth group for children on Friday evenings.

Spare time is a luxury but I love volunteering and helping kids to be kids! (With lots of subliminal learning taking place unbeknownst to them!)

I enjoy reading fantasy and science fiction novels. Notable authors include Robin Jarvis and Terry Pratchett.

Teaching Experience:

"Your lessons are like magic Mr. Shires" - the moment a Year 3 child at the end of our Latin lesson said this is a moment etched in time firmly within my mind. Knowing that I was and continue to have a positive impact on someone's life and education is mind-blowing and it is from this where I gain true satisfaction from teaching and the desire to keep going; to keep helping and to keep being that rolemodel for future generations of children.

I have had teaching experience in the state sector as well as the private sector. Primarily, my teaching has been focused in the Early Years. I have also taught in Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2 and a little bit of Key Stage 3. I am quite fluent in all Primary subjects with a specialism in English; Phonics and Latin which I have taught to Year 3 and Year 7.

Tutoring Approach:

I like my lessons to be FUN.

I know if my lessons truly engage the learner, I know I am going to succeed even before the lesson has started.

I like to take time to really get to know my students to encourage deeper learning. I like to challenge; motivate; inspire and really go for gold. My expectations are high and I expect the very best.

Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Rebecca. I specialise in English language/linguistics and I am keen to tutor/help anyone with their English language skills whether your are a non-native speaker looking to improve your spoken and/or written English, or a native speaker of English looking for help on your national 5 or advanced highers. I have a GCSE and an A-level in English Language in addition to a degree in Linguistics, a Master's in Bilingualism and one and a half year's experience doing a PhD in Linguistics. I am also qualified to A-level in psychology and can teach psychology for GCSE and Advanced Highers. I am also able to tutor those who would like help with data handling in Microsoft Excel and data analysis/statistics using SPSS.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience tutoring both one-to-one individual sessions and tutoring groups of 20. I have worked with children from the age of 5 and have tutored adults in their 30's. The children I have worked with comprised children with typical language development and those with atypical language development (specific language impairment, autism and dyslexia). Adults with whom I work are a mixture of native and non-native speakers of English.

I am currently employed by the University of Edinburgh to tutor the tutorials for one of their modules in Linguistics. In addition to my work at the University of Edinburgh I also engage in regular private tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that it is important to tailor learning sessions to the needs and abilities of the student. Our current school system is still based on the traditions established during the Victorian times which maintains that groups (classes) of children will receive the same teaching, ignoring the abilities and personal needs of the individual children who make up that class. This is what is known as a 'one glove fits all' approach. I believe in catering teaching to the student's needs and abilities and to engage students at all levels. I also do not believe that teaching should be a static process, whereby students just listen to a teacher talking. It is important for students to think for themselves, to use the skills they have learnt in order to solve new challenges. It is important to keep students engaged. Learning should be fun and we can make this possible by presenting students with interactive exercises that are both fun and challenging. A successful tutoring session should leave a student feeling excited, reflective and overall hungry to learn more.

A lot of my pupils are at the transfer test stage and I am tutoring them for their exam/s in November this year and next year. I also have experience in teaching Maths to all levels from primary school up to Key Stage 3 which is year 10 in secondary school.

Tutoring Approach:

Tuition takes place in my home office in the Ravenhill Area of Belfast. We can work out together which day and time is most suitable for your family each week. The tuition classes tend to be 1-1.5 hour long sessions and occur at the same day and time each week for the agreed time period. I offer 1-2-1 tuition for 25 per hour or small group tuition for 17.50 per hour. The group tuition takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 3.30pm and 4.30pm and lasts 1 hour. The one to one tuition times can be selected to suit your family.

I have access to the school curriculum and a wide range of excellent teaching resources. I work within the current curriculum so your child's tuition stays results-focused. I have access to all the past papers, test papers and marking schemes to ensure your child is exam ready. I use games and videos to make learning fun and to change mindsets from having a dislike for Maths to being a subject which is fun and interesting.

If your child is nervous and shy with new people or at the thought of being tutored one on one in my home please do not worry. We can all have a cuppa and a chat together until your child feels comfortable with me and is content in his or her surroundings. I am very good at making children feel at home, welcome and relaxed before the tuition formally begins.

I look forward to meeting you and your child :)

Personal Description:
I am 24 years old, based in South Oxfordshire and currently working for the Civil Nuclear Police full time Monday to Friday. I am looking to tutor in my spare time, not only to earn some extra money for my husband and I, but also as I have a passion for teaching and it is a career I always considered myself following. I have a degree in English Literature and Creative writing from Kingston University London, graduating in 2013 with a 2:1 BAHons. I have always had a passion for English, particularly poetry, writing regularly in my free time. I have wanted to become a teacher from a very young age however, due to financial needs, was unable to undertake a PGCE course immediately after finishing my undergraduate degree.
As I work for the Police I have been fully background checked and passed the DBS checks which were conducted between January and April 2016.

Teaching Experience:

I have completed two weeks work experience in a primary school in North Wales where I helped with the reception and year one classes. I was tasked with helping the children with all their work, from spelling and maths, to reading and writing. I would be willing, as a tutor, to help primary school age children with all subjects; from 11+ I would be more suited to English Literature or English Language however I am willing to discuss the child's needs and am happy to help with pre-GCSE maths, science or history also. I regularly check Undergraduate level essays for grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors for my two sisters in law, one of whom is studying War Studies and the other Primary Teaching. When in my late teens I would read with a young boy every week to help him improve.

Tutoring Approach:

Though I have never been employed as a tutor previously, I do have experience working with children and young adults, as well as a keen eye for detail. I am extremely patient and willing to persevere to find the learning method which works best for the child or young adult; I have experience in this with my youngest sister in law, who is just 16, whom I have been helping with her GCSE chemistry; chemistry is certainly not my subject, however I took time to read through her text books and her work, to ensure I knew exactly what she needed to do, before helping her to find a way to understand herself. I appreciate that not all subjects come easily to every individual and that, though I may have a passionate love of English, not everyone will share that and so, when tutoring anyone I should not be telling them that English is great - that is just my opinion; instead, I should be helping them to access it, to understand it better, and making it a little easier for them in the process. If, on top of that, they come to love the subject also, that is great; if not, that is fine too.
I would always propose that I meet once with the parents, and child or young adult, free of charge, to discuss the exact requirements: That way I can come to the first tutoring session knowing what needs improving, where my help is most needed and, also, how I think the tutee needs to taught - do they find the subject boring? In which case I need to show them ways in which it can become more interesting, even fun. Do they find the subject really difficult? In which case we need to find ways to make it more accessible and less daunting. I also can leave the fist session knowing exactly how the parents or guardians want me to tutor their child - do you want me to set my own tasks and homework for the tutee to help improve the weaker aspects of their work? Do you want me to help them with work they are being set in school, perhaps a specific text? All of this will help ensure that both the tutee and I get the most out of the time we spend together.
