Personal Description:
I have a passion for the English language and its literature which is reflected in my work. I really enjoy tutoring, because I know the one-to-one learning situation gives students the attention and focus which they need to improve, and which they cannot get in school. I only work in West Yorkshire, up to 12 miles' drive from my home.

Teaching Experience:

I have 30 years' experience of teaching English to kids of varying backgrounds and abilities (11 to 18 up to A level) so I have built up an extensive bank of resources over the years, which I use to carefully prepare for lessons. I am also an experienced examiner for AQA, which offers valuable insights into exactly how to achieve high GCSE grades . I have been tutoring successfully for five years now, and my knowledge and expertise would be very useful to students aiming at high marks in GCSE and A level exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient, friendly and easy to get on with. I have always tried to make my lessons interesting, relevant and inter-active. I tailor my teaching to the pupil and know that praise and encouragement are the keys to confidence and progress. A good sense of humour is vital, too.
I have helped to improve the grades of many pupils, some of whom have achieved the highest grade at GCSE, and have coached younger ones through entrance exams. One student, whom I tutored for three years, progressed from a poor level 4 in year 8 to GCSE grade B, the minimum requirement for A levels in many good schools, while others have achieved the A* grades required for their chosen paths.
I have achieved high ratings from the parents of students I have tutored. A good tutor can make a difference with focused one-to-one attention, and I am a good, committed tutor.

Personal Description:
Originally from Newcastle, I am now an actor and enjoy tutoring alongside my acting work. I have worked in TV, and also in theatre, including venues such as The National Theatre and the West End. Especially with younger students, I like to keep my lessons creative and practical. I studied English and Drama at Bristol University and then went on to train at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Recently, I have been tutoring in English, Drama, 11+ Common Entrance exams and general Primary school help.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for over 6 years. Alongside my tutoring, I am currently teaching Music and Drama in schools and I run workshops with Sixth Formers on ways of analysing texts practically.

7+ - I worked with Elektra (6) preparing her for 7+ Examinations. Covering English, Maths and Reasoning focussed on entry to Notting Hill and Ealing High School.

7+ - Working with Harry on English, Maths and exam technique, focussing him for 7+ exam for Dulwich Prep School. Harry has traits of both dyslexia and dyspraxia.

7+ - I work with Jules on his English. Jules is French and has just started attending a French school, so we are working to keep his English up to scratch. Main areas of focus are: speaking, spelling, listening/understanding and grammar.

7+ - Working with Charlie mainly on English, increasing his confidence in all areas but focussing on Writing, Grammar and Punctuation, and Comprehension.

11+ - Working with Guy on English and Maths one day a week. Mainly focussed on Guy's writing and spelling. Guy is preparing for entry to Westminster and Eton Schools.

11+ - I worked with Ingrid on English and Maths in preparation for exams for Notting Hill and Ealing High School, Francis Holland and Godolphin and Latymer Schools. Ingrid went to her first choice of Notting Hill and Ealing High.

11+ - I worked with Olivia in preparation for her Common Entrance exams on all papers (English, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning) as well as interview practice. Olivia is now attending North London Collegiate School (her first choice) but I also prepared her for entrance to Highgate School for Girls, City of London School for Girls and Queen's College.

Primary Help - I worked with brothers Teddy (7) and Alfie (10) mainly on English and Maths but also across all subjects generally to improve knowledge, confidence, spelling and vocabulary.

Primary Help - I worked with Rohan (10) on improving his confidence and basic skills in English and Maths. Rohan was very inquisitive and keen but needed help focussing and answering the specific questions that he was being asked.

A Level English Literature (AQA) - worked with Oliver (17) helping with coursework on The Great Gatsby and the poetry of Keats and Larkin. Oliver achieved an A grade.

AS Level Drama (AQA) - helped Yasmin to explore the analysis of texts of Lady Windermere's Fan and A View From The Bridge in preparation for exams, in which she achieved an A.

GCSE English Literature - tutored Amy in preparation for coursework and exams. Texts: Lord of The Flies and A View From The Bridge.

Home Schooling - Inigo (6 when I started) had been getting reports of generally dropping behind in class work with a lack of concentration. I homeschooled him every Friday for two terms. He was having particular trouble in English and Maths. Inigo was struggling especially with English, in all areas, and was most behind with Spelling and Grammar. For him to engage, I had to be both creative (to keep him interested) but also quick as the plan was to get him into Kew Green Primary for the next academic year. We covered the basics of year 1 and ironed out any problems (also to give him confidence with the things he could do) and then went onto year 2. I would use a lot of what he was naturally interested in (football and particular comic book characters) in the teaching to keep his attention. With Maths, Inigo could do simple addition and subtraction but struggled when getting into 2 digits, multiplication, or any sort of wordy problem where the sum to be done was not absolutely clear. So, again, we covered the basics and then pushed on. He worked really hard and eventually we were looking forward to things he may encounter next year. At first Inigo was quite reluctant to work but I managed to win him over and build up a good rapport for productive days of homeschooling. Thankfully, he gained a place at Kew Green, and we were delighted! (Though it did mean, unfortunately, that he didn't need me any more...).

English for Foreign Learners - Helped 8 year old Augustinos (Greek) with reading and homework to improve English, as well as taking him on educational trips around London.

Drama (practical) - Coached Emily (21) and Hannah (20) with acting lessons in preparation for Drama School Entry auditions. Emily has now trained at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and Hannah is training at LAMDA.

Voice and Elocution - Helped Law Student Amar (20) with speechmaking and projection for use in debating.

SEN - worked with Dean (20), a law student with dyslexia, upon exam preparation and practice.

Tutoring Approach:

I will tailor whatever I teach to my pupil's needs. I am very easy to get along with and very open to how you think you or your child will best learn. Above all I would want a pupil to look forward to my sessions with them so will make sure that they are practical, interesting and varied. Especially with the younger students I teach I think that lessons need to be fun to keep them excited about learning! If you have any questions at all or specific enquiries, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Personal Description:
I have 20 years of experience in publishing as a writer and editor and am passionate about nurturing English language skills and a love of English literature. I graduated from the University of Stirling with an honours degree in English Literature and have also taught English as a foreign language. My experience in publishing has trained me to write concisely and economically while retaining an imaginative grasp on a piece of work, a skill invaluable in writing essays and examination answers; and especially useful in assisting students with the new written assessments that, in Higher English, comprise 20 per cent of the final examination mark.

I can empathise with students who are tussling with English, relish improving a person's understanding and enjoyment of the subject and take satisfaction from helping to develop their abilities not only in the practical sense of improving their powers of analysis and understanding of texts but in helping them think imaginatively and creatively. As a personal tutor, I have a proven record of upgrading students' performances, especially at Higher level, and have, in several instances, improved so dramatically pupils who were on course to fail Higher English that they went on to achieve an 'A' grade in their Higher examination.

Teaching Experience:

I have three years' tutoring experience. In 2012, 65 per cent of my tutees for Higher English achieved an 'A' grade, with several Band 1s among them. In the 2013 Higher English examination, 75 per cent of my tutees obtained either an A or a B, with slightly more than half of those obtaining an A and several obtaining a distinction in doing so. In 2012 and 2013, all of my tutees at Standard Grade achieved either a band 1 or a Band 2. Similarly, in 2014, all National 5 students achieved an A or a B. At Higher, in 2014, 85 per cent of tutees achieved an A or a B, with the remainder, several of whom had been struggling severely, delighted to have achieved a pass.

With my help, tutees have obtained the vital English qualification that was essential to them obtaining a place at such universities as: Cambridge, Oxford, Aberdeen, Dundee, St Andrews, Heriot-Watt, Edinburgh, Stirling, Strathclyde and Glasgow and the Glasgow College of Art.

I also have experience teaching English as a Foreign Language, in Egypt, both in private schools and tutoring young people on an individual basis.

In publishing, I was frequently chosen to tutor new entrants to the profession because of my precise use of language and empathetic nature on a one-to-one level.

I studied English Literature to honours level at the University of Stirling and aim to pass on my love of the subject to students through establishing a rapport with them and recommending to them the type of literature that would complement their learning and enable them to derive pleasure from studying English.

Tutoring Approach:

On first meeting, I will discuss with the student how they wish to improve and which aspects of their English studies they feel require greatest attention. I will adapt tutorials to suit the student's needs and course of study. Additional exercises and study guides will be developed together, so that the student can participate with enthusiasm and purpose in the tutorials. This allows me to work to the student's strengths, to help them manage their problem areas more effectively and to derive greater enjoyment from the subject. I will adopt a measured approach and will use my communication skills to ensure that the student understands and absorbs each aspect of the lesson before progressing to the next stage. I aim to make lessons pleasurable and fun as a means of making learning easier, enjoyable and more memorable.

Personal Description:
I have lived in Colchester most of my life, and had an uncle who was a teacher; this inspiring me to become involved in education, after having worked in other occupations.
My interests include drama, photography, salsa dancing, classic cars and travel. I am also actively involved in a number of societies, including being a committee member.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring since 2003.
I am experienced in 1 to 1 tuition, and have also worked as a part time college lecturer. I currently work as a
training manager (in work based learning in transport), as well as a tutor.
I've also been involved in verifying learning material, and have worked with LAC/SEN students.
I aspire to eventually become a qualified (QTS) teacher.
I am a member of the Institute for Learning, and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.

Tutoring Approach:

I encourage students to input their own ideas and opinions into tutorials, as I feel this can help their learning process, over merely having a tutor "talking", and them "listening".
Basically, my approach to tutoring is like a "two way street", with good communication and interaction between
both parties, which in turn can make the learning experience more fulfilling for the student.
I set homework for students, (where applicable).

Personal Description:
Positive, encouraging, warm and friendly. I graduated from the University of St Andrews in 2011 with an MA(Hons) in English Literature, and am currently undertaking a PGDE in Secondary English Teaching at the University of Strathclyde. I can assure you that whether you are studying William Shakespeare or Irvine Welsh, I can help. From experience, I also know that how much you enjoy the literature in question can have a big impact on how well you write essays or reports on it. I have a passion for literature and know there is always something good to be taken from any book, so hopefully through my tutoring, you'll catch the bug too. From critical readings, to deciphering poetry, to writing your own creative pieces, I've done them all from school through to University, and have no doubt I can guide you to a new-found confidence in your English Literature studies. Having studied Mediaeval, Scottish and Modern History at Junior Honours Level, I can also assist with school level British and European History studies. I am a qualified EFL Teacher, so if you're looking for help developing your English skills, look no further.

Teaching Experience:

EFL Teacher, Adults and Teenagers. Teaching exam based classes, I taught pupils aged 14 and upwards the skills, language and confidence necessary to sit internationally recognised Cambridge ESOL examinations. My teaching role varied from providing one-to-one tutoring for adults wishing to improve their English, to planning and delivering structured, informative lessons for classes of teenagers as part of their curriculum. I am delighted to be able to report that my students' earned not only pass marks in their exams, but were thrilled to attain high grades.

Kindergarten EFL Teacher. In this role I taught classes of thirty students the basics of the English language, using lesson plans and worksheets I developed myself. With a creative and enjoyable approach to teaching, I noticed considerable improvements in the English skills of my students, and am pleased to say my pupils consistently enjoyed my lessons and my warm, constructive teaching style.

Volunteer EFL Tutor. A one-on-one role teaching beginner's English, I tailored my lessons specifically to my pupil's needs at all times, discovering their areas of strength and which methods suited them best, and also working on weaker areas, finding ways to improve these through diverting activities and positive re-enforcement.

Volunteer Leader in ASN Performance Classes. In this role I helped teach children and adults with additional support needs singing, dancing and acting. I assisted either individuals or small groups in developing ideas for dramatic scenes, learning how best to work with each person, adapting scenes to both their preferences and what would help develop their confidence and independence.

I can also expertly proof-read your work, having previously proof-read dissertations, websites and CVs with skill, helping you produce a polished essay.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in structuring encouraging, independent learning environments, helping to draw out your own ideas and discussing them together to achieve an interesting and concise argument for you to work on. I apply constructive criticism with tact and guidance, asking appropriate questions about your theories to allow you to think them through with consideration and depth. I will not tell you what you should write: I will facilitate you, guide you, act as a sounding board for your ideas, and explain any gnarly linguistic or theoretical queries you may have. Be assured that I will come prepared to each lesson, whether online or in person, ready with resources I think would assist you, and with a sound knowledge of the text in question. Above all, I will be dedicated to helping you improve your understanding of the topic; the quality of your written work; and, hopefully, your enjoyment of reading and studying texts.

I have a degree in Psychology (specialising in educational psychology) with several years' experience of teaching English and providing educational support for a range of subjects at both primary and secondary levels. With a postgraduate certificate in research methods with statistics I also teach maths at primary (KS1&2) level. I am friendly, approachable and adaptable, so if you are looking for individual or small group tuition please get in touch and I will do my best to help.

Teaching Experience:

After completing my training in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) I started my teaching career teaching English for two years in Portugal with classes of both adults and children. During this time I taught all levels (beginner through to examination classes) and also taught intensive courses with small groups. After returning to the UK I worked for a few years in two secondary schools and one primary school, providing educational support to students, including children with special needs. I also have several years' experience of working with adults, teaching basic skills to individuals and groups, with two local authorities and at a university.

Tutoring Approach:

My goal is always to increase students' confidence and maximise their potential. All tuition is tailored to your individual requirements, interests and needs. In the first session we will explore your learning needs and goals and agree a tuition plan. I can either make an assessment to identify areas that need support or we will work on specific areas that you specify. I am friendly, approachable and adaptable, so if you are looking for individual or small group tuition please get in touch and I will do my best to help.

Personal Description:
I am a 17 year old girl who is currently studying her AS Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and French.
I have completed my GCSE`s and gained 2Astar`s, 7A`s and 3B`s and I am predicted 4A`s in my AS Levels.
I enjoy socialising with friends and family alike but also have a passion for learning and hope to go further into the field of Chemistry, such as Chemical Engineering, Forensic Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry.

I hope to see some of you soon!

Teaching Experience:

I have never tutored before but I often help younger members in my family with advice and help on their work and school worries, by sharing my personal experiences and I aim to get them to achieve their full potential and to find a pathway which they have a passion for at an early age.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that tutors and students should always have good communication and the way to do that is to build a solid foundation between each other by listening and aiding in a proactive way, rather than forcing a student to learn something.
I understand that all students learn in different ways and believe that I am versatile enough to adapt to their ways and try a range of activities with them to help them grasp their full ability.

Personal Description:
I am a compassionate and hard working individual with a reputation for patience and understanding. Since graduating from an English With Creative Writing degree, I spent over a year working with victims of severe dementia, and so have considerable experience with communication barriers. Being someone with aspergers myself, I understand how frustrating the school environment can be, and the need for the individual support a tutor can bring. Having travelled extensively, I also have some experience in overcoming the challenges that language can bring, and so am delighted to offer basic English as a foreign language.

Please give two weeks notice before the first session in order to properly prepare the best service.

Teaching Experience:

I am an electronic keyboard tutor with many years experience in performing and composition. During my time at school, I participated in a scheme to help younger years with their studies.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that a home tutor must put the unique needs of the student first. Because of this, I make sure I am able to explain difficult concepts in more than one way in order to suit the individual. Above and beyond that, I am comitted to believing in each and every student, encouraging them to believe in their abilities and achieve their potential.

2Bs (Latin and History)

A Levels
1A (English)
2Bs (History and Latin)
I currently have few contact hours at university and so I'm looking to fill my time with a job that I would find rewarding.

Teaching Experience:

One weeks' work experience as a Teaching Assistant in a nursery (2011)
I was tutored during primary school and I found the experience so helpful and rewarding, which makes me want to pass this on and help others.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm a friendly sociable person and would like to apply these aspects of my personality to my role as a tutor. Previously I have worked in a tea room, a pub and a restaurant/bar, so I believe I would be able to apply knowledge learnt from these roles. For example I am good at working under pressure with time constraints, and I am also very organised and reliable. I believe that to be a successful tutor, the pupil needs to be in a comfortable and relaxed environment without the pressure they may experience in the classroom. I would encourage my pupil to speak up if there is something they are unsure of and praise them for good work, therefore encouraging their continued participation.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced and enthusiastic French teacher and tutor. I have been a French tutor for over twelve years and I have found that my work teaching in UK schools up to Advanced Highers (or A level) and my work as an examiner really helps me to design tailor made lessons. I have a proven track record - my tutoring really does help learners to achieve their language learning goals. I used to live near Lille, and then in Antibes in the south of France, and regularly visit to keep my knowledge and skills up to date.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored for over twelve years, and after completing my languages degree in 2002, I then continued to do a postgraduate teaching qualification, and I have been a French teacher and tutor ever since! I have experience teaching learners who would like to achieve success in exams, or those wishing to develop holiday, conversational or business French.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very enthusiastic and friendly. I find that my experience has led me to develop approaches to learning that are easy to understand and give learners the confidence and knowledge that they need to progress.

I like to develop tailor made lessons for each learner, and I feel that this is key - each learner is different and it is important for them to feel confident about their learning goals.
