I grew up in Brussels and South America and so am familiar with several different educational systems (French Baccalaureate, International Baccalaureate, A levels etc).

I worked as a tutor, teaching French and Spanish from the age of 16. As part of my undergraduate university degree, I worked as an English language teacher in Italy, at a state school. I have experience giving tuition to children, adolescents and adults in English (literature and as a foreign language), Spanish, French, Italian, Politics, Philosophy, History and Drama.

Tutoring Approach:

I love one-on-one tuition because I can really cater for each student depending on their strengths and weaknesses. I endavour to make the subject as fun and rewarding as possible. I aim to challenge each student, helping them to master their subject, without overloading them and depending on what their needs are. I am willing to travel to your home but also accept students at my home.

Personal Description:
I am a political enthusiast who has spent the last few years building up a successful department in a secondary school to impart this enthusiasm to students from a region where political apathy is rife. I am a keen cyclist and traveller and enjoy the occasional healthy debate on a variety of topical issues.
I graduated from Birmingham University's School of Education with a PGCE (Med level) in History and Citizenship following on from my previous qualifications; Master of Arts in Global Politics and Human rights Law and Bachelor of Arts In International Relations and Law (LLB). In addition I have A-levels in English Literature, Maths, Physics and General Studies. Although these are not my specialist subjects, I would be willing and able to offer additional support in these areas if applicable.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently the Head of Faculty for Humanities at a secondary school in the West Midlands. I have seven years teaching experience as well as four years experience tutoring students, including one-to-one sessions, in Politics, Law, History and English as a foreign language. I teach all age groups with a focus on GCSE and A-Level Studies. In my tenure as Head of Political Studies my students have achieved 100% pass rate at A-Level and AS and all students have met or surpassed their target grades.
Within my role I have built up links with local MPs and MEPs and this has led to the successful running of annual Parliament visits and four visits to the European Union Parliament in both Strasbourg and Brussels. In addition I have twice led a debating team of students in the international EUROSCOLA event held at the European Parliament where students debate a variety of issues against over 600 students from the other EU member states.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in a fresh approach to tutoring, using a variety of teaching methods and resources tailored for the individual learning styles of the tutee. Videos, newspapers, past exam papers and a library of resources allow for a holistic approach in delivering specialist subject knowledge. I use contemporary case studies and a high level of ICT literacy to make learning both interesting and accessible. In addition, my working knowledge of the major exam boards means that all sessions will be customised for maximum benefit in any given tuition agreement. I am happy to teach across all age groups and abilities and have experience of working with vulnerable/hard to reach children, and those with special educational needs.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Personal Description:
I am currently in my final year at university studying Creative Writing and English Literature. I'm aware that English and History are complex and intriguing subjects but I firmly believe that a thorough understanding and practise of techniques will enable to provide you with a firm base for any student to succeed.
I am keen, conscientious, hardworking and reliable person. I am good timekeeper and enjoy meeting people. I am able to get on with a variety of people. I would like the valuable opportunity to be able to work within an education orientated environment where I can demonstrate and develop my skills.

Teaching Experience:

I have completed a Literacy Leadership Award and I was assessed on my ability to plan and prepare a literacy activity. I had to show communication and motivational skills through delivering literacy across the curriculum. Having observed teachers, I was able to learn interesting techniques that are used to teach Key stage 3 and 4 students. From this experience, I was taught how to plan and structure a lesson i.e. the starter, an introduction, an interactive main activity and the plenary; how to use verbal and non-verbal communication successfully .These rewarding experiences encouraged me to become an English teacher in the future. I have also worked closely with my peers on A Level courses such as English and History by delivering revision sessions and presenting my ideas on literary texts, articles and academic research.
I have been tutoring privately for over two years and currently have eighteen students.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tuition includes a variety of techniques and strategies in order to guide and motivate the learner. I will set personalised targets with my students and their parents in order to achieve the desired results. I also intend to provide you with a personalized programme that is best suited to your individual needs. I'm very enthusiastic and try to make learning a fun experience, using different ways of learning. Also, price can be negotiated.
"She's a good listener. She tries to make people understand something in a way that makes you feel comfortable. She involved everyone in the discussion even the quiet ones and always tries to find new ways of explaining things. Revision sessions were really useful and I think the main reason was because she just loves helping other people whether it is people younger or the same age. Everyone went home feeling slightly more confident about the exam including me. She makes sure that everybody understands even if it has to be explained more than once." (Aarti, 18, student)
"Charnjit has a way of making the impossible- possible. She is patient with her students and will try her hardest to make people understand. She has a way of teaching which involves a lot of group work and a one-one session where she will answer any questions from the stupidest to the smartest. After having few sessions with her I went into my exam confidently. Most importantly, she never gives up on anyone." (Rahwa, student)
"Charnjit's teaching style is unique and possesses many qualities. She is patient and constantly checks for understanding in order to go over things if the topic is not understood straight away. She uses a variety of techniques such as group brain storming in order to get the class involved which is very effective. During our group revision sessions she used this technique which worked well as it got everybody thinking, talking and interacting which was useful when remembering theorists and certain dates. She also categorised the theorists into groups based on their research which was also helpful for revision as it broke down the amount of theorists into smaller groups which were easier to remember. In addition, Charnjit is very good at keeping the class' attention which is very important as a teacher." (Stefanie Mee, student)

Personal Description:
I moved from Henley-on-Thames to Bampton in October 2011. Last academic year, I worked three days a week in an independent girls' school in Exeter, providing one-to-one support for a girl in Year 9 and also taught English Literature to Year 7 & Year 13 classes.

I have a passion for the written word and its performance in poetry and drama.

I am a mother with three grown-up children and very interested in how young people view and contribute to the world in which they live.

I hold a First Class Honours BA degree in English and Classics from the University of Reading. In September 2013, I am currently a part time MA in Postcolonial Studies at SOAS, London University. I believe that learning should be a lifelong process and I hope to use expertise acquired from my MA course to the benefit of my students.

I can offer lessons in my home in Bampton or in a student's home within a 25 mile radius, including Exeter, Taunton, Tiverton and Wellington. Tuition is also available online via email and Skype. This has proved to be a highly successful way of teaching, Travelling to a student's home may incur a small mileage charge but this would be subject to various factors and established prior to the first lesson.

Teaching Experience:

In addition to working in a school in Exeter (outlined above), I have been a highly successful English tutor for many years, originally based in the South-East. Working both through a tuition company, Howland Tutors in Marlow, and directly with clients in the Marlow and Henley-on-Thames areas, I have tutored students in English Language & Literature from KS1 to 'A' level. I also work with undergraduates in various disciplines, providing guidance in the structure of their essays, particularly dissertations, and academic writing.

I also have experience in helping adults with their business English and have written marketing copy for the commercial sector.

UPDATE AUGUST 2012 - Another amazing year of exam results. A recent contact through UK Tutors, living in Instow, had 10 lessons with me, one in person the remainder via Skype, and achieved A* grade in both English Language and Literature at GCSE. Similar success stories throughout GCSE,'A' level and undergraduate students in this academic year.

Tutoring Approach:

When I tutor a student, I search for a 'tailor-made' way to help increase their self-esteem and confidence. This enhances the learning they already receive in the classroom. The study of texts offers student and tutor alike not only an opportunity to develop communication one with another but also insight into the life experiences of others, both in past generations and the wider world today.

I have achieved an 100% success rate over the last seven years in helping students to achieve higher than their predicted grades at both GCSE and 'A' level and have many excellent references available. My students have come from the public, private and state school sectors and varying levels of academic ability.

Personal Description:
I am an overseas teacher with BA degree in English and 7 years of teaching experience. Currently working in a primary school supporting children in their literacy and numeracy as well as teach English as a second language. I give help with homework and extra support in SATs exams. I am fluent in English and Turkish.I have years of experience in teaching English as a second language , maths and English as well. Teaching is my passion and to me it is the most rewarding job.

Teaching Experience:

Synthetic phonics trained and can deliver it using sounds-write programme.
Supervise and provide particular support for pupils including those with special education needs.
Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes.
Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to the individual needs.
Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in their learning activities.
Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self esteem and independence.
Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning in a school environment help improve children's social , physical and emotional skills and they have role models around them to improve their learning in any area that they are expected. However teaching might be very challenging when behaviour issues cause distraction and eat up the learning time. Therefore I think private tuition is the best way of using a child's learning time most productively possibly do a day's learning at school in 1 or 2 hours of tuition.I generally teach school-going students. Therefore, I can generate good learning plans and activities in the areas they need to improve.

Personal Description:
Hello, I live in Rainham and have three children and one grandchild, whom I adore. I enjoy working in my garden growing vegetables and roses, I enjoy water colour painting and sewing quilts.

Teaching Experience:

I have 10 years teaching experience in the primary sector, (years three to six) and am currently working part-time in a secondary school teaching GCSE English and key stage 3 maths. I have been teaching there for the three years now. I,m also part of Top Cat Tutors. We tutor pupils from year two to year eleven, for English and maths and up to KS 3 science. We have fully equipped classrooms with loads of resources. All my pupils have made significant progress both in their work and their confidence.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is fairly traditional but creative, I assess new pupil's current levels, then plan the next steps with them. I engage my pupils at all levels of their learning as I believe this encourages them to be learners. I praise and encourage my pupils for excellent work. however if a pupils struggles to understand a concept, I will find a way to explain the task so that my pupils does understand and can achieve, which in turn enables them to make progress. I set homework to consolidate what has been taught.
My pupils constantly make considerable progress: as their subject knowledge improves so their confidence grows.

Personal Description:
My name is Clementine. I am a Third year English and Drama student a Royal Holloway University of London. I am bilingual in English and French.
I was born in Australia. My education was conducted between these two countries and as a result I have a double culture and a great interest in travel and literature. I have been trained under two different forms of education and have been taught efficient methods of work. My passion for trying out new experiences has led to me learning Spanish.
I have a great desire to communicate and interact with others- this is why I went in to tutoring. Using all my travel and personal experience has come in quite handy for inspiring students. This has helped me find interesting sources to make lessons more diversified and varied.
Hobbies include reading ( a lot !), theatre, fencing and debating in the Shakespeare Society.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for the past 2 and half years. I teach a wide range of students- from 4 to 13 years olds - in various subjects ranging from English and French Literature to Reading and Writing skills.
I follow my students for the quasi-totality of the past year, helping with English and Literature and boosting confidence skills in Oral presentation skills.
If needed I can produce references.

Tutoring Approach:

The way I conduct lessons is very simple- the session is planned out with the student to encourage them to an organised and eventually autonomous method. Any point that is not well assimilated is reepxlained and focused on. The lessons will follow different difficulty and themes - these can be arranged from a selection to tailor to each pupil's needs.
The focus in such lessons is to encourage the student's progression in anyway possible. Small tasks will be given now and then to check on the student's progression.

For students wishing to enlarge their knowledge of English Literature, emphasis is put on the latter (my specialisation being the 19th century rise of the novel) and contemporary culture. Themes range from different periods of English history to contemporary issues that rock today's world.

French lessons are held in a similar manner with the general aim of not only further knowledge but enjoyment in the pursuit of it.

Personal Description:
I have been teaching most of my working life. However, last year was entirely spent in fulltime education. I have Just finished a Masters degree specialising in Shakespeare and wish to make a return to teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for roughly 8 years now. I have taught English as a foreign language in Japan for a major language school. I worked as a private tutor in Japan and Australia teaching ESL. In Australia, I also worked with an import company improving the business English of their staff. I have taught Exercise Physiology both at University level for ANU in Sydney, and in an adult education environment. I have ample experience in sport coaching, having coached school children and university students in a variety of sports. I have taught on three continents, taught everyone from children as young as 1 to retirees. I have experience in a variety of subjects and people from various backgrounds. I am used to teaching individuals and groups.

Tutoring Approach:

People have different strengths and weaknesses. Both these need to be adequately construed before any teaching method can be finalised. Usually, I would try to ascertain the students strengths, to facilitate learning, and weaknesses, to identify areas of improvement. It is important to interpret these factors according to the framework of curriculum / examiner requirements. I endeavour to make my sessions fun for students. I try to remind myself that their tutoring sessions are often at the end of a long days work. This makes patience very important.

Personal Description:
I have a great deal of experience in teaching students who have problems with confidence or need the academic study skills to complete assignments, projects or just pass exams.

I have 20 years experience teaching in Further and Higher Education level. I have extensive experience in private tuition at both GCSE and A Level.

My specialist area is in helping individuals to develop study skills and exam skills. Irrespective of what subject you are studying I can help you with writing skills, reading skills and research skills. I am also able to help you develop strategies to pass examinations.

I have wide ranging experience in teaching essay writing and helping students and adults of all ages to complete smaller and larger writing and research projects.

I have a PhD in history (Early Modern), but I have also taught modern history at A level and undergraduate level, this includes modern British and European history, including subjects such as The European Dictatorships, The Cold War, The Spanish Civil War and many aspects of 19th and 20th Century History. I also teach modern politics and I am conversant with the history of political and religious ideas.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully qualified post 16 teacher and have taught a range of subjects in the humanities.

I lived for 10 years in Germany and achieved a distinction in German at undergraduate level. I have taught German for beginners and can teach up to German A level and give advice on German at undergraduate level.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a great deal of experience in tutoring students with low confidence. I can help with improving and consolidating existing knowledge and boosting confidence.

My main aim, therefore, when teaching is to build confidence and encourage students to approach their work with a positive attitude and a 'believe in yourself and you will do your best' style of approach. So the building of self confidence and self esteem is central to my teaching with all students and all ages.

I am currently a private individual and group tutor for children from Year One to Year 6 including entrance exams for all those wishing to gain entry in to a selective Birmingham Secondary School . I tutor both Maths and English and believe children and families will gain the most from tuition if the service they receive is personalised and in an environment the feel comfortable in.

Teaching Experience:

I have lots of experience with children from my time at a private tuition centre, volunteering with Rainbow, Brownies and Guide units as a leader for 5 years. I also have experience working with children with difficulty reading, working weekly with them to build bonds and see real improvements. I am a patient and committed person who makes bonds easily with adults and children alike.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel tuition should be personal thus have a student by student approach to tuition. I feel some children work better in a know environment and some work better in a space that is new to them so am both happy to travel and work with children in my own home. My approach to home work is also flexible I understand many children have other commitments but some children will need homework to progress.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly, committed and organised individual who enjoys building a good rapport with people and students.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring students privately in small groups and on an individual basis for the last 6 years in Maths and English at a primary level.

I am happy to travel to student`s home with a minimal amount of additional cost the vast majority of the times, depending on student`s location, and am currently available evenings and weekends.

Tutoring Approach:

My vision is caring for every student as an individual on an educational and personal level and I focus on tailoring my teaching methods and content to meet the student`s needs, specifically by analysing the student`s weaknesses identified from an initial assessment. I monitor student progress on a regular basis with tests to ensure targets and learning objectives are being met. I provide a wide range of past exam papers and resources to support pupils in their learning.

Personal Description:
I studied English & American Literature at The University of Kent before training as an actor at Drama Centre (one of the top drama schools in Europe, which specialises in a hands on approach to method acting). Since then I have been lucky enough to work on some fantastic projects on screen, stage and radio, learning a set of skills that I now also enjoy passing on to others through mentoring, tutoring and coaching.

Teaching Experience:

As well as mentoring actors (both online and physically) aged 14-25 for the past two years, I have run workshops in performing Shakespeare for Screen at The Almeida Theatre, London for students aged 16-25. I have also taught actors one on one for the past year in screen acting and am currently training two students for a TV film in 2015.

Of late, I have also coached a businesswoman in her 40s in speech and vocal strength, as well as body language and confidence within the workplace.

Tutoring Approach:

It is incredibly important to me to tailor the way I teach to each student, depending on how the student best learns. I am happy to use my theatre and screen training if the student is a kinetic learner, or more traditional methods if preferred. I am nothing if not creative with my students, and will use everything in my toolkit to aid their learning.
