Personal Description:
I have a PhD and an MLitt from The University of Glasgow and a BA (Hons) degree from University of Paisley. I am an on-line and off-line personal tutor with experience in several subject areas including English, English Language, English Literature, Media Studies, Film Studies, Theatre Studies, and General Writing Skills. I have taught students off-line from pre-exam age (11+) to Standard Grade, Higher, and university level; and online for pre-exam level (12+), GCSE, AS level, A-Level, university level and the occasional Adult Learner.

Teaching Experience:

A well as being an experienced tutor, I have also had several academic jobs including:

Seminar tutor at The University of Glasgow

GTA (Graduate Teaching Assistant) for The University of Glasgow

Top-Up Tutor for The University of Glasgow

Step Up to University lecturer at University of West of Scotland

REACH tutor

Proof Reader

Note Taker

Study Support Tutor

Transcriber

Support Worker

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning should be fun and in a relaxed atmosphere but at the same time academic and useful. My approach to teaching is to have the tutor and student both feel that they are getting a lot out of the experience and that the time is being well used. I will break down subjects into easily manageable blocks and make sure that my student understands the unit before moving on. I also like to vary my tutorials by having some in the form of lectures, some in the form of question and answers, some where I will give students feedback on homework they have done and suggestions to improve what they have done, etc.

I also find that on-line tuition is the best method and students can ask questions that they may not ask if they were face-to-face with someone, it is a much more relaxed approach but students get a lot out of it (and can save all the notes from lessons for use later on)

Personal Description:
Success is within your grasp.

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Laurence, and I am a local private English tutor.

I have a degree in English Literature (2:1).

I am a fully qualified teacher, and have my QTS certificate (Qualified Teacher Status) to prove it.

My experience of exam marking for GCSE's, leading English Departments and being classified by Ofsted as an 'Outstanding' teacher ensures that progress is accelerated, meaningful and genuine.

Teaching Experience:

I have been Head of Department, GCSE Manager, Monitoring and Assessment Manager, a GCSE Exam marker, an A Level exam marker and I am also consistently classified as 'Outstanding' according to Ofsted requirements.

My largest concern for my students is to make sure that their confidence is built up by becoming pro-active and independent learners. All too often teachers 'spoon-feed' their students, leading them to a false sense of security in their skills, which therefore leads to poor performance in examinations.

I also view myself as an 'English Coach', as I place a very big emphasis on ensuring that students have the right frame of mind when approaching studying English. Confidence, and belief in their own ideas, is so important for students to have, and all too often this lack of confidence is instrumental in why they are not performing as they should be.

I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you and hope that it helps. My passion and focus is English, and I aim to pass this passion on to all of my students through lessons that are filled with fun, engaging discussion and exciting tasks. My particular areas of expertise is helping students to prepare for English GCSE examinations.

My wife and I also prepare students for the 11+ examination. Our success rate is 90% and although we are usually fully booked a year or so in advance for the 11+ it is always worth emailing me to see if there are any spaces that have become available

Tutoring Approach:

I have held the post of Head of English at a school in Staffordshire, and I have led a team of exceptional English teachers. Having held other management positions in other schools as well, with management focus on both key Stage 3 and 4, I have built up a wealth of experience and knowledge that I can now put to good use within the sphere of personal tuition.

I am also an experienced examiner, having marked for a leading exam body for five years now. This has helped me enormously to build up a very clear understanding of what exam boards require from students.

Last year's results saw a continuation of my fine record of exam success, where my class achieved 100% A-C in their GCSE examinations. My current year 11 class are predicted to have 5 A*'s, 10 A grades and fifteen B grades. This will be the finest set of English class results in the school's history.

I have built up tremendously successful working relationship with my clients, and parents who I currently work for, and worked for, have happily created testimonials for me which I would be able to provide for your perusal upon request.

I travel to students' homes. I am willing to travel 30 miles from Bloxwich, and therefore will travel to Lichfield, Tamworth, Cannock, Burntwood, Walsall, Pelsall, Birmingham, Willenhall and Wolverhampton, Stratford upon Avon and Warwick.

Personal Description:
I graduated from Oxford University in 2011 with a degree in Experimental Psychology, specialising in 'Educational Psychology'. I currently tutor as well as run a study skills company where I visit schools in London, teaching students how to maximise their potential through various unique learning techniques. I love teaching, and the satisfaction of helping my students reach their goals; I welcome students of all abilities and motivation types. What sets me apart from most is that as well as tutoring my students, I take the role of a mentor, to motivate, encourage and guide them towards success. I have had a lot of experience in private tuition, with a range of students benefiting from my support with 11+ exams up to Degree level. I am very lively and approachable, providing a warm environment in which to learn!

I am able to tutor:

Degree level Psychology (including help and guidance with essays/assignments/dissertations; proof-reading etc)

A-Level - Mathematics, Geography, English (Literature/Language), Psychology and Media Studies.

GCSE - most subjects including Mathematics, English, Science, History, ICT, French and Geography.

For students applying for Oxbridge, I am able to provide valuable advice on interview techniques and personal statements, as well as provide contacts to graduates from Oxford University from a range of subjects. I am also able to tutor students for entrance exams e.g. 11+.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored extensively at Primary, GCSE, A-level, and Degree level with excellent results. Examples include a student who moved up from a D in A-Level Psychology to a very high B. Another gained almost an A* in her English GCSE after being tutored by me for just a month, a huge improvement from the C/D level she was at. I am currently tutoring students ranging from 11+ common entrance exams to A-level Mathematics and Psychology degree level. I have taken part in several mentor schemes where I supported students with their academic problems in Mathematics, Science and English.I have also hosted group tuition sessions, and regularly run study skills workshops in schools around London.

Studying 'Education and Psychology' as my specialist subject during my degree has meant that I have a range of techniques that I apply to my teaching - these are based on biological/neuroscience/psychological findings in an educational context.

Tutoring Approach:

I spend a lot of time planning for sessions so that my students get the very best out of each lesson. My approach is thus very organised, with small goals set per session, as well as a long term goal to work towards. I always ensure that my lessons are engaging, and work towards building a good relationship with my students, encouraging them to ask questions without any hesitation. I adapt my approach depending on my students' learning style as this is the key to successful teaching. Past papers are also definitely a step in the right direction, as well as looking at the syllabus/specifications for the subject.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying for a funded PhD on Samuel Beckett and Theodor W. Adorno at Royal Holloway, University of London. I completed my Masters study in Literature and Philosophy in September 2012, graduating with Distinction, and received a First Class Honours BA in English from Royal Holloway in 2010. Between my Undergraduate and Masters study I worked for a year as an Editorial Assistant in the Health Sciences division of Hachette UK.

I held a choral scholarship at university and was previously a chorister at Winchester Cathedral.

Teaching Experience:

I am a Visiting Lecturer at Royal Holloway and currently teach on the First Year Undergraduate course 'Inventing the Novel', which covers literature from 1724 to the modern day. I received excellent student feedback, with over 90% of my students agreeing that the seminars furthered their knowledge. A number of the students identified seminars as the aspect of the course that helped them increase their knowledge and skills, with comments including 'engaging and approachable' and 'very helpful essay feedback'.

I have four years' experience in tutoring pupils of a range of ages, from 4 to 18. I am practiced in preparing students for their GCSE and Alevel examinations, working closely with the syllabus whilst extending their understanding. I am currently a Visiting Lecturer at Royal Holloway, teaching a first year Undergraduate course: 'Inventing the Novel'.

I also have four years' experience as a private Piano Tutor, in which time I have tutored adults and children of varying abilities, developing their musicality and aural skills and entering them into ABRSM examinations where appropriate.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that each student requires entirely different strategies for the optimum level of learning. It is important for them to be taught in a positive and open environment, where they are encouraged not only to develop academically, but also to enjoy the experience of learning.

The subjects that I teach are nothing if not inter-disciplinary; literature, history, philosophy, religion, music and art cannot be studied apart from one another, each in their own little cubby-hole. Whilst I recognise the need to cram for exams in our education system, I still believe that excellent grades can be achieved without compromising original thought and extra-curricular study.

I also offer proof-reading services if you do not require face to face tuition but only some help on a particular piece of work.

Personal Description:
I love teaching! :) This is my passion and my job. It gives me great satisfaction and fulfills my ambitions. I am optimistic and open-minded what makes my students more eager to enrich and assimilate knowledge. I am demanding but patient as my goal is to provide effective tutoring to my students. What is more, my experience in working with international teachers and students has developed my creativity. Last but not least, organisational skills are definitely my second nature.

Teaching Experience:

I have been gaining valuable international work experience as English Teacher since 2000. I have been in intensive cooperation with leading English, Australian and Polish schools of English, both private and state, teaching children, teenage and adult students. I have found fulfilment in providing General and Business English courses to groups and individuals on all English levels ranging from A1 to C2. I have also conducted FCE, CAE, CPE, BEC, IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC and EAP courses and specialised English Training and Workshops successfully. My TEFL experience is with students of different cultural background. I have them with their different pronunciational, lexical or grammatical difficulties which proves my expertise and adaptability to students. Moreover, I was responsible for developing General English and TOEFL/IELTS curriculum and its further coordination. On a regular basis I also work as on-line tutor and provide Grammar, Vocabulary, and Speaking classes to students. Moreover, I enjoy working as a translator of economic, financial, legal and technical texts, and as interpreter at business meeting and negotiations.

Tutoring Approach:

How do I conduct classes? I always set the goal of providing effective training. However, before getting into the classroom, I make a detailed lesson plan, based on successful course books or my own materials, which specifies both lesson and personal aims. Most of the time they refer to my individual approach to students and make lessons tailored to their specific needs. I believe that effective teaching must be a combination of work and fun. My priority is to make classes varied, engaging, and memorable. Varied as they touch upon all skills and different types of activities. Engaging as I want my classes to be student-centered with the main focus on communication. And memorable as there are fun games and IT equipment. I believe that not only planning, but also monitoring and reporting play a great role. To get the full picture of the learning process, I provide students with sufficient feedback and reports.

Personal Description:
I am an organised, sociable and confident individual with a can-do attitude, I have discovered that I possess skills and attributes which are transferable within many different job roles both related and unrelated to my education. These include: Reaching targets (personal and professional). Writing memos, notes and feedback, record keeping, communication with office, school faculties, parents and carers. I speak several languages, including Hindi, Gujarati French and Spanish.

Teaching Experience:

Having working for education for 15+ years and covered various areas from: special need, controlling classes, providing feedback for absent teacher, observing health and safety of all involved people. I attend meetings, first Aid, in house and external training days. Report abnormalities, Feed back etc.
I have worked for interpreting services in a various sectors: Independent tribunal, social services, School and OAP organisation. I handle invoices to and from.
I have worked for weekend school for Children, Youth and Family University, where I supported family and children of all ages and back ground. Bought resources, issued invoices, planned lessons and delivered according to dead line.
I get on well with all ages and back ground. I work on my own and as a part of a team. I speak several languages and translate the too , for example, Hindi Gujarati, Urdu, Punjabi.

Tutoring Approach:

Students and parents both want academic success - high grades and the pride that comes with achievement. I believe any student, regardless of ability, can become a high achiever. I know from years of experience that students under perform because they have not learned the right approach or pathway to success.

Any school has the same essential components: attendance, class participation, attentiveness, homework and testing. Most teachers give students points for each category; however, simply showing up on a regular basis and "doing" homework will not guarantee a good grade. The difference between average performance (a "C" student) and high performance (an "A" student) turns on what a student does outside of class.

While no two students learn exactly alike in exactly the same manner, all students must struggle with independent learning. Where do I do my homework? When do I do my homework? How do I do my homework? Am I well organized? If not, how can I become better organized? Do I know how to study for quizzes and tests? If not, how can I develop better study skills? Students who discover the answers to these questions become high achievers.

help students become stronger independent learners by developing a customized approach to their needs, cognition and retention. Students can spend hours working very hard but working inefficiently to the point their effort fails to translate into results. I create personalized organizational plans so that students learn how to maximize time, work efficiently and retain key information not just for the short term but for the long term.

Personal Description:
Hi, I'm Taryn! I'm a Teaching Assistant at a Primary School in Peterborough. Last year I graduated from university with a BA in Archaeology, and I'm currently saving up to do my Masters degree this September!

In my spare time, I love keeping up with all things archaeological, including volunteering for a local children's archaeology club, and I'm also a keen baker!

I'm friendly and approachable, and love working with kids at all ability levels in a variety of subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I currently work as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school, but have experience in both tutoring and teaching at secondary and college level too.

I work closely with Special Needs children in my job, and love a challenge!

As well as my degree, I have A-levels in French, History, RS and Critical Thinking, as well as an AS-level in Maths. If you or your child struggle with study skills, I can provide advice and help on techniques to improve the way you study and to avoid procrastination!

Tutoring Approach:

I firmly believe that tutoring needs to be undertaken in such a way as to make the tutee comfortable and relaxed. There's no point making a session very formal if you or your child aren't comfortable with that!

From my previous experience, I also know how hard it can be in school to catch up if you're struggling with a subject, or if you've been ill. As a tutor, it's my job to help you, at a pace that works for you.

I'm friendly, approachable and patient, and absolutely love teaching. I believe that, while every child has the right to an excellent education, it can sometimes be difficult for schools to meet the needs of every single child, however hard they try. That's where a private tutor like myself can come in handy!

Personal Description:
I am a a recent graduate of Bishop Grosseteste University, graduating with an upper second class honours degree. I adore English Literature, with that being the subject I studied at university, and am enthusiastic to anyone with the same admiration.
I have a friendly attitude that has been considered welcoming and is always ready to help those with the desire to learn.

Teaching Experience:

In the past I have played tutor to many of my classroom associates, aiding them in the areas they feel the need to improve on. Through my years in education I have always had a friendly attitude to those in need of tutoring. Through university, I set up a study group where not only did I tutor but others helped each other, with my guidance, through their strengths and weaknesses to overcome the task.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to find out first hand where the student seems to be struggling and start from there. I encourage the student to ask questions and to not be afraid if they do not understand the concept. Through good communication with the student I can find their weaknesses and help them turn them into strengths.
