Teaching Experience:

I have taught TEFL in language schools for two years, and have given private tuition in English and in Music for 9 years for all levels of learners. I have taught English at all levels from Beginner to Advanced, plus Business English and conversation classes. I have taught children as young as 6, all the way up to adults, and vary my teaching method according to the age group I am working with.

I have a Music degree and play and teach the Recorder, as well as giving lessons in music Theory. I try to be as learner-centred as possible in my teaching. I have been teaching English in various forms for over 4 years. I did substantial tutoring with individuals and schools in Leicester, London, Korea and France. I am a certified CELTA teacher.

I was a full time English teacher in Seoul teaching students aged 4-14 for two years. I developed my teaching methods greatly and now I can show my private pupils how to succeed in their studies. I have been tutoring English in London for 2 years now, to students of various ages and abilities.

I have a passion for the written word and its performance in poetry and drama.

I am a mother with three grown-up children and a grandmother, and very interested in how young people view and contribute to the world in which they live.

I have an MA (with Merit) in Postcolonial Studies from SOAS, University of London (2015) and a First Class Honours BA degree in English and Classics from the University of Reading (1996).

I can offer lessons in my home in Bampton or online via email and Skype. Skype has proved to be a highly successful way of teaching and I now teach across the globe using this medium,

Teaching Experience:

In addition to working in a school in Exeter (outlined above), I have been a highly successful English tutor for many years, originally based in the South-East. Most of my client base is private but I also work for two top London tuition agencies. I am a highly experienced tutor and currently have students in English Language & Literature from KS1 to 'A' level/IB. I also work with undergraduates & postgraduates in various disciplines, providing guidance in the structure of their essays, particularly dissertations, and academic writing. Additionally, in 2014/15 I tutored the complete AQA GCSE Classical Civilisation syllabus to a Year 9 student via Skype, who obtained an A as her final grade.

When I tutor a student, I search for a 'tailor-made' way to help increase their self-esteem and confidence. This enhances the learning they already receive in the classroom. I enjoy all aspects of English Literature, the research process and critical analysis. My most recent teaching has concentrated on sixteenth century texts, including Shakespeare's 'King Lear', 'Hamlet', 'Romeo and Juliet' and Webster's 'The White Devil.' Teaching Experience:

Between 1992 & 2010 I lived and taught in Hong Kong to a variety of students from Chinese medium of instruction (CMI), English medium of instruction (EMI) and International schools to help them develop the four English language skills. Assistance was given to help students progress towards their HKCEE (GCSE equivalent)and `A` levels, and in recent years the IB diploma, IGCSE's, and HKDSE.

Topics used in the lessons cover many of disciplines in the school curriculum, including, History, Geography, Economics, Biology, English Literature. Further guidance was given to help students prepare for exams, such as, Cambridge`s KET and PET; the SAT; and IELTS exams and common apps for HE.

In the past six years I have been tutoring students in the UK to prepare them for the 11+ and 13+ entrance exams; teaching students at KS3, GCSE and A levels. Additionally, I am currently helping students with their dissertations for their chosen degrees, and proofreading BA, MA, and PHD papers prior to submission.

Furthermore, for the past two years, I have been involved in intervention teaching, which involves identifying learning styles and other factors that inhibit a student`s progress, and then devise strategies to engage the student in learning, to identify and then support their current learning needs.

I have a Trinity CERTTesol and a MA in English Language Teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a CLIL approach to teaching, which means I teach English using the content and language taken from the student`s curriculum. My experience also qualifies me to teach English literature, History, biology and geography to GCSE level.

Hello, my name is Sian and I am 20 years old. I have a level 4 combined HNC of Childhood, Youth and Community Studies with Health, Community and Social Care Studies at Winchester University and I am currently studying Youth Work and Community Development at Hull University. I have just left my position as a Higher Education Ambassador and a Care Ambassador for Hampshire County Council and have worked with children and young adults for over 6 years; including mentoring, tutoring and supporting them throughout education and daily life. I have also worked with young people with different learning needs, including those with physical or learning difficulties. Part of my previous work required me to support children in different learning environments, such as university, in outdoor environments during bushcraft sessions, and also individually during sessions or free time to help them decide what path was best for them.

I have tutored GCSE students in Maths for 6 years and gained an award from Hampshire County Council and my school/college for my work supporting other students especially during their exams and assessments.

During my secondary school years I was a regular teachers assistant taking time out of my free periods to offer other students support during Maths Lessons, and preparing lessons for a small groups of students which I was given to teach after school and marking papers. I was taught by my own head teacher how to prepare lessons and teach them, making them fun and enjoyable but also targeting areas which needed the most improvement.

I have been an active member of the homework clubs at all of my schools and colleges. I have also been a student mentor and student union representative offering to support to other students as well as friends and family who needed extra support especially in Maths and Drama.

I have plenty of work experience in schools catering to all ages, including some nursery and college work experience supporting children and adults of all ages to expand their knowledge and develop no matter the age.

I have also volunteered with teenagers, and young people helping then to develop life skills, learn basic academic skills and develop their knowledge including one activity where I supported a group to do a community action project and help the local community teaching them communication and public speaking skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I am kind and caring yet firm so I will base learning around the tutee and the support they need. I will help the young person by not only teaching them but helping them to develop the skills they will need in the future to be able to teach themselves and develop their knowledge.
I would like the tutee to feel comfortable during a session and I take a friendly approach, I do not intend to gain a friendship with the tutee but I find a fair, balanced and equal relationship is best for both the tutor and the tutee and for the best development and progress.
I will sit with the tutee and support them with a learning plan, targeting what areas they need most work with small tests at the end of a topic in order to make sure that they have fully grasped the knowledge, if they have not then I will take time to go over this again. I develop my teaching technique to each learner, if one is better with sheets and learning by the book I shall help them that way, if one learns with physical examples then I shall make sure that each learner is equipped with all they need to gain the relevant knowledge.

I feel that I would be a great tutor and I can connect with children for three reasons:

1. I'm not really old and I have siblings, so I know how to engage and make learning fun so they don't feel intimidated by a teacher appearance
2. I have managed to develop my own learning skills to suit my abilities and I work closely with each tutee to use their skills to improve their education. If they have learning difficulties, I show them how to use them to their advantage and find ways of learning that suits them.
3. I'm not perfect. I teach children that everyone is different and that being yourself is most important. I would never compare one student to another.

Having said this, I will aim to provide the best service of education I can, along with squeezing every ounce of potential out of each tutee so that they can ultimately reach or exceed their own goals and expectations so that they have the ability to get the best opportunities and have the best education possible.

I am a fully qualified teacher, and have my QTS certificate (Qualified Teacher Status) to prove it.
My experience of exam marking for GCSE's, leading English Departments and being classified by Ofsted as an 'Outstanding' teacher ensures that progress is accelerated, meaningful and genuine.

Teaching Experience:

I have been Head of Department, GCSE Manager, Monitoring and Assessment Manager, a GCSE Exam marker, an A Level exam marker and I am also consistently classified as 'Outstanding' according to Ofsted requirements.

My largest concern for my students is to make sure that their confidence is built up by becoming pro-active and independent learners. All too often teachers 'spoon-feed' their students, leading them to a false sense of security in their skills, which therefore leads to poor performance in examinations.

I also view myself as an 'English Coach', as I place a very big emphasis on ensuring that students have the right frame of mind when approaching studying English. Confidence, and belief in their own ideas, is so important for students to have, and all too often this lack of confidence is instrumental in why they are not performing as they should be.

I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you and hope that it helps.My passion and focus is English, and I aim to pass this passion on to all of my students through lessons that are filled with fun, engaging discussion and exciting tasks. My particular areas of expertise is helping students to prepare for English GCSE examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

I have held the post of Head of English at a school in Staffordshire, and I have led a team of exceptional English teachers. Having held other management positions in other schools as well, with management focus on both key Stage 3 and 4, I have built up a wealth of experience and knowledge that I can now put to good use within the sphere of personal tuition.

I am also an experienced examiner, having marked for a leading exam body for five years now. This has helped me enormously to build up a very clear understanding of what exam boards require from students.

Last year's results saw a continuation of my fine record of exam success, where my class achieved 100% A-C in their GCSE examinations. My current year 11 class are predicted to have 5 A*'s, 10 A grades and fifteen B grades. This will be the finest set of English class results in the school's history.

I am a qualified high school teacher with 18 years' experience of teaching English, Media Communication, Drama and Study Skills to 11-19 year olds. I previously worked for the BBC and was awarded a BAFTA for my role in a TV documentary series. I am educated to Masters degree level and hold a 2:1 Bachelor of Arts degree in Digital Media, Politics and Performing Arts. The first session is essential for the success of the programme going forward. In this session, we evaluate current learning strengths and weaknesses in the individual student. In order to get a full picture of the student's learning priorities, we undertake the following activities to determine areas for improvement and the best conditions for success:

- reflections from the student on how they feel about their learning experience
- a learning survey - it's good fun and gives the child/student a really useful exercise in self-reflection
- analysis of recent written reports which contain teacher comments and grades recording attainment, effort, attitude to learning, punctuality, etc. School reports can vary in format so it may be that not all this detail is available
- we ask that a parent/teacher is involved for the duration of this first session to provide their own reflections on the learning profile of the child
- completion of a personalised learning contract whereby the child/student, parent/teacher and coach agree on the required conditions needed for the child/student to be successful during the programme.
