Personal Description:
I am a qualified English teacher with an MA degree in English Literature. I am currently doing a PhD in English Literature (Modern Fiction) at Durham University. English has always fascinated me and imparting my knowledge to others has been a pleasure and a reward. I am interested in Modernist as well as contemporary literature as much as in British culture and geography. I wish to share my passion with my students in order to help them realize that learning a language is not only useful but great fun if taught and approached in the right way.

Teaching Experience:

My English teaching experience covers working for Anglophiles Academic at their summer camps for French students in York and Skegness (twice), teaching at EAC summer schools, EFL tuition at three language schools in Poland and teaching practice in three Polish secondary schools. I have also been teaching one-to-one for the past eight years to students of all ages and various nationalities (including French, Italian, German, Korean and Polish). I have prepared four students for their A-level examinations, which they passed with flying colours. I have also taught English to children and adults of all levels and with various difficulties (e.g. dyslexia).

Tutoring Approach:

I believe learning is all about attitude and motivation. Language can be taught in a variety of ways, but the key is to choose the method that is most fruitful in an individual case. Forcing a language in is ineffective and unprofessional. The focus should be on practice rather than theory, though both are necessary for the student to develop their language skills. Theory must always be supported with lots and lots of practice - be it grammar and vocabulary exercises, games, films, music, television or newspaper articles - anything that will keep the student in touch with the language system. In short, the key to success is the student's positive attitude and interest in the subject (both of which the teacher can help develop) and the continuity of exposure to a given language, which the teacher should provide, plus the practice of grammar and vocabulary.

Personal Description:
Cambridge graduate offering private tuition in Latin, English (literature and language), and Politics.

I specialize in coaching students through GCSE/A level and preparing them for public examinations.

I graduated with a 1st class degree in English from the University of Cambridge (Girton College) in 2008 and recently completed a Masters in Medieval Literature and History at the University of York.

During both of my degrees, I took a number of papers in Latin language and literature. I also have 'A' grades in A-level Latin and A-level Politics.

I currently work in publishing.

Teaching Experience:

Since moving to London in 2010 I have tutored students preparing for public examinations in Latin and English.

During the academic year 2008-2009 I worked as a boarding house tutor at Sherborne International College. My duties included aiding the students with their academic work, P.E. teaching, English language teaching, and general pastoral care.

Tutoring Approach:

Latin:

Puzzled by perfect participles?
Confused by conjugations?
...and what on earth is a gerundive?

Let's face it, studying Latin can be difficult, but it is the challenge which makes it such a rewarding subject.

My approach to teaching Latin is to develop translation skills whilst reinforcing the key building blocks of grammar. I endeavour to work at the student's own pace and tailor my sessions to complement school work.

English:

I hope that my passion for English will encourage students to develop their own skills in the subject. I have spent the last 5 years of my life studying and responding to texts and enjoy sharing my knowledge and insight.

It is difficult to offer a single "approach to tutoring" as I believe the right teaching method depends entirely on the interests, level, and personality of the individual student.

I am happy to accept students preparing for GCSE, AS, or A level examinations. My philosophy is that exam success relies on a combination of close understanding of the text, ability to respond independently, and proper exam technique.

Interviews:

I am also available to tutor students preparing for university entrance interviews (in particular Oxbridge). Having experienced the process first-hand, I feel I am well positioned to offer meaningful advice on how a candidate can impress during the application and interview process. I am willing to conduct mock interviews.

I am a full time tutor ,author and examiner. I am currently an examiner for ABMA. I have written 13 textbooks ,including two which were published in 2010 .

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in a range of schools, colleges and universities, including Borden Grammar School in Sittingbourne and London University.
I have been tutoring for 11+, GCSE, A level successfully for 15 years .

Tutoring Approach:

With 1;1 tutoring I am able to find out through discussion what students need , irrespective of their age or background . As I have a bank of background material to draw on ,I can if necessary hope to find the building blocks which need to be understood before moving on .
e.g.teaching partial fractions at 'A' level and finding that a revision of ordinary fractions is required.
I tutor face to face or by Skype.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic and motivated individual who has a commitment to teaching. I have successfully completed a Mathematics PGCE in secondary teaching and work at an outstanding school.

I enjoy skiing, indo-boarding and keeping fit. I am friendly and I get on well a wide range of people. I like challenging myself and I enjoy helping people. I have a full UK driving licence and I have my own transport.

My most recent CRB check is from July 2013.

Teaching Experience:

My PGCE year showed me different ways to teach children and emphasised being flexible and adaptable to the individual needs to every child. I incorporate this into my teaching practice on a daily basis and have managed to get it down to an art for tuition too.

During my final year at university, I decided to take on the role of note taker/tutor to a visually impaired first year PPE student. This helped me to fully appreciate the art of communication because I had to learn new techniques to implement when typing up mathematical notation and complicated economic expressions. This aided my organisational and time keeping skills as I had to complete my final year studies simultaneously. I undertook this role so that I could enhance my listening and communication skills. But I finished this role having understood the intricacies of teaching Mathematics to someone who has difficulty due to a disability. I was a successful tutor and my work was valued highly but my greatest achievement within this role was ensuring that the student understood what I taught. Carrying out this enriching role meant I saw the student decipher the complex and challenging mathematics and this confirmed teaching as a career choice.

I decided to use the summer of 2010 fulfilling one of my dreams by working with vulnerable children from underprivileged backgrounds in one of the world's fastest developing nations: India. I taught Mathematics and English to Secondary School students using my Hindi language skills to communicate and ensure that the children understood everything that I was trying to convey. I fulfilled this voluntary role for a period of 3 months and it gave me a very deep insight into what a career in teaching would be like. I travelled 18km on a daily basis but I was happy to give up my time during the week and on the weekend in order to teach or invigilate exams. I was committed to sharing my knowledge and giving the best of myself. This experience showed me that it is important to keep thinking and learning new things in order to be a successful teacher. I created teaching plans before each lesson and took advice from the Head Master and my colleagues which meant that I was able to develop at a rapid pace. I recognise that I still have much to learn but I am ready for the next challenge which awaits me. This experience was heart rendering and left me feeling fulfilled in a way I have never felt before.

I have taught over 30 pupils over the last few years. This has ranged from several A level pupils, several GCSE pupils and a handful of primary school pupils. I have also taught university students in Economics. I have taught both male and female students from varying ages. Pupils tend to find that they gel with me quite well compared to previous tutors they've had.

My students notice a difference in their progress within a very short amount of time because I genuinely care about helping them to get the most out of their potential. One of my languages' students has seen a rapid increase in a matter of weeks in terms of her spoken and written work. All of my Economics' students have seen particularly quick progression in terms of analytical and evaluation skills.

I am a hard working and conscientious tutor - I take my work very seriously and I am committed to helping students perform exceptionally well. The feeling I get from seeing a student finally understand a concept is the greatest feeling in the world. However, I don't take myself too seriously and am very easy to get on with.

Overall - I can help with routine homework, assignments, exam preparation, more focused revision, improving memory and making subjects fun and relatable!

Tutoring Approach:

I plan things and I like to identify a student's weaknesses so that I can help them to kick the demons and enjoy a subject in a way they never have done before. I think making the base of any subject strong is essential and means that a student can develop quicker. I also know that it's important not to overload students with too much information so I make things manageable and progress tends to be very fast :)

Personal Description:
I have studied a broad range of subjects during my Bachelor's degree (English and Classics, RHUL) and Master's (Comparative Art and Archaeology with Law, UCL). My main interests lie in English literature of the Victorian and Medieval periods, Fin de Siecle Art and Theory and Archaeology.

Aside from my studies I play a lot of sport (lacrosse, rugby and athletics) and have captained teams at national and regional level. Due to my teaching experience (see below) I am comfortable working with children through to adults on a broad range of subjects.

I am dedicated to providing all my students with the time they need to improve, thus will only take a certain amount of students at a time. At the moment, I have space for 2 A-level students and 2 more Higher Education students.

Tutoring Approach:

Academic experience: I have worked in private tutoring, state and private schools, university departments and know how examiners mark and what they expect. I have worked for 2 prestigious Universities and am adept at entrance documents and applications. In addition, one needs to be constantly aware of the changing curricula, mark schemes, and student specifications, knowledge and understanding of which can guarantee a 95%+ grade.

Encouragement: As a sports captain, Head of Year prefect and Global Citizenship Mentor (UCL) I realise the need for a pupil's confidence to be built up before they can achieve better. In my opinion a pupil is never failing, they can just achieve more.

Planning: It is essential for us to have an organised lesson plan, and plan for our future sessions so we can map where we should be heading and what we have achieved. Many students suffer from poor organisation which, if remedied, would immediately proffer far better results.

Education: During my past 8 years of college, undergraduate and graduate university I have been educated in a host of valuable disciplines that help interest and inspire any student.

Personal Description:
I am a professional musician with a lifelong enthusiasm for education, particularly for encouraging people of all ages to discover the possibilities, and develop their potential and confidence, in all areas of life and learning.

I have a friendly, creative, relaxed personality, and enjoy seeing people grow in their confidence and ability, through listening carefully and working supportively with them to maximise strengths and address areas of struggle.

Teaching Experience:

I have spent well over twenty years supporting children and adults in developing not just musical abilities but a wide range of study skills (including literacy and numeracy), motivational and learning strategies. I have concentrated mostly on 1:1 tuition, and have acquired additional training in listening and counselling skills. The qualifications, skills and experience I have gained have equipped and inspired me to provide creative, focused support in ways appropriate to each individual.

I have tutored children and adults in piano, singing and music theory. I have also home-schooled my own five children through to secondary level, including successful 11+ entrance.

I have worked with talented children and with children who have learning difficulties. I have coached young adults and professionals who want to improve their existing abilities, and older adults who want to begin in music.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in treating each student as an individual, and seek to encourage and support them in their learning, drawing on a wide variety of resources and styles. I aim to make the learning process a positive and happy one where students feel accepted and encouraged, as well as stimulated to reach forward to improve their skills.

Personal Description:
I am a recent History graduate of the University of Oxford (Somerville College) and I'm an ideal tutor for those seeking to brush up their GCSE or A Level French, History, Politics or English skills.

I have excellent A'level grades, and am able to cater to all abilities. My historical specialisms include 19th and 20th Century British and European social/political/cultural history and 19th and 20th Century U.S History.
I am likewise very comfortable with modern South Asian and Mexican history, and the English Civil War is a source of interest for me.

As a recent graduate, I'm in touch with current educational concerns and the demands of the examination system. I achieved full marks in both English Literature and Government & Politics A Levels and maintain a keen interest in literature and current politics.
I'm also ideal for anyone preparing for university interviews, or English/History GCSE and A Level coursework.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored extensively over the past two year.
I have also previously worked for six weeks in Central America teaching children from age 4-16 a mixture of English, French and Sport.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very open attitude to tutoring. I'm keen to engage with, and explore the mind of the tutee and help them explore the limits of their thinking. That said, good organisation and constant practice go a long way in furthing a student's development. I am friendly and approachable, and have a good sense of humour.

I can tutor in libraries or the home of the tutee, whichever is most convenient.

Personal Description:
I am young, enthusiastic and looking to motivate others to get the most out of their years in education. My personal interests/specialties are: Philosophy (particularly: Ethics, The Philosophy of Religion and Classical Philosophy); Politics (particularly: Political theory and thought, comparative government and international relations); Economics- including microeconomic and macroeconomic levels of analysis; and, English literature- particularly Shakespeare, Blake and Larkin.
When I'm not reading or thinking I like to pursue my other passion in life, Rugby.

Teaching Experience:

My strongest areas are Politics and Philosophy, in which I have tutored students from GCSE to undergraduate level with a proven record of improvement following my intervention. I have taught English, Politics, Economics and Philosophy to A-level standard. My experience of High School teaching (SATS, GCSEs) extends to a good share of the subjects available (please inquire about specific subjects, i might surprise you!).

As an admissions consultant I personally interviewed and prepared over 30 Oxbridge candidates, with a significantly higher proportion gaining entrance compared to the national average.
In addition, I have worked extensively with children aged 6-14 in my role as a summer camp coordinator for Active Nation UK.

Tutoring Approach:

Whilst learning cannot always be enthralling, it should never be dull.
Whether its learning basic Maths and English, passing the Year 9 SATS or getting the right grades for university, I can help.
Students will learn all the essential knowledge to reach their goals at whatever level, as well as extra work on the fundamental underlying principles that extend beyond the syllabus (and into the real world!). This is all made relevant and memorable with interesting examples and additional information that make the core material go down smoothly whilst helping students understand why their subjects matter in the wider world. This approach ensures students become engaged and willing to learn, leading to higher retention rates and ultimately higher marks. Perhaps more importantly, my approach teaches students how to think clearly and creatively, the end result being excellent exam results and transferable thinking skills that will last a lifetime.

I can offer tailored tutoring for all ages, schools admissions advice and University application/ admittance assistance, particularly in entrance to prestigious universities (including actual Oxbridge interview material).

Personal Description:
I am an outgoing, enthusiastic and passionate tutor. I am currently completing my legal training at BPP Law School, having graduated in BA Geography from Oxford University in 2011. From a young age I have demonstrated sustained academic success through hard work, diligence, and a genuine enjoyment for learning. I believe these are qualities which are crucial to achieving your academic goals and which therefore equip me to thrive as a personal tutor.

Currently in education, I have extensive and up-to-date experience in what is required to obtain the top grades at all levels, including GCSE and A-level. Having been educated at both Westminster School and Oxford University, I have been exposed to high academic expectations. This has equipped me with a set of highly effective study skills which I endeavour to pass onto my pupils.

My qualifications are as follows:

8 A*s and 2As at GCSE

4 A Grades at A-Level, in English Literature (93%), Geography (91%), Latin (90%), Fine Art (86%)

Distinction in Advanced Extension Award (AEA), Geography

Highly Commended Prize Essay on 'Thomas Malthus' concerns about the impact of increasing population size are irrelevant in the 21st century'

BA (Hons.) Geography at St Peter's College, Oxford University 2008-2011

GDL (Graduate Diploma in Law), BPP Law School 2012-2013

Teaching Experience:

Experience in tutoring and consulting over the past three years, including:

11+ after-school tutor sessions.

GCSE and A-Level tutor sessions.

Secondary school and university interview preparation.

Consulting on geographical issues at Ditshwanelo, a human rights charity located in Gaborone, Botswana.

I am also affiliated with other leading tutoring agencies.

Tutoring Approach:

Rapport:
It is first essential to recognise that each pupil is different, with a unique set of concerns and goals. It is therefore crucial to identify these individual needs before working towards the pupil's goals in a way which best suits them.

Targets:
I believe it is important to identify a pupil's targets as early as possible. This gives us both a clear beginning and end-point, and enables us to identify what steps need to be taken to achieve our goal.

Participation:
Developing a learning environment in which the pupil is confident enough to participate in discussion is essential. I therefore focus on building their confidence and encouraging contribution and creative thinking. I also endeavour to lead them to a stage where they are no longer afraid of learning from their mistakes.

Practice/Exam technique:
A key element of exam success is practice. I therefore concentrate on developing my pupil's exam technique by doing past paper questions. This increases their confidence and familiarises them with the types of questions they will take in the exam.

Through a combination of the above, tutoring can be both rewarding and enjoyable.

Personal Description:
I am a patient and enthusiastic teacher. I am currently teaching French in a boarding school at Key stages 1 and 2. I obtained the French equivalent to a PGCE in Modern Foreign Language (French-English) in 2006 and Qualified Teacher Status in 2007. I also obtained a Master's degree in French-English-Spanish translation and interpreting.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching French at Key Stages 1 and 2 ( Nursery to Y6) since 2013 in a boarding school around Kirkby Lonsdale. I also taught English (as MFL) in a high school and college near Paris for 5 years, teaching students towards passing the Baccalaureat.
In addition I have had an adults beginners group and did homework help in a range of subjects for pupils aged 8 to 12, so I have been teaching students from all ages and abilities.

Tutoring Approach:

Adapting to the student's needs and tastes and finding the right resources and strategies to improve their aural and written skills.

Personal Description:
I'm an 18 year old student from Essex, currently studying Law with Business at the University of Hull and looking to begin tutoring while studying for my degree.

Teaching Experience:

In the past I have tutored GCSE and Key Stage 3 students at Southend High School for Boys in order to help them progress and prepare for their exams. I consider myself to specialise in Business and History, having studied them for the longest, while also being proficient in Chemistry (studied to AS level), English Literature and Language, and Maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a relaxed, friendly and informal approach to tutoring, allowing the student as much time as required in order to fully understand a topic or subject area while also ensuring that progress is made in good time, however my approach can also vary depending on the student's learning style and what environment they learn best in. I look towards past paper or exam style questions to check and monitor progress, and place emphasis on use of a subject's specification (particularly at GCSE and A level) to ensure the student knows exactly what the exam board wants them to know.
