Personal Description:
In Year 13 and still feel you can write your essays a lot better?
In Year 13 and want a content top up?
In Year 13 and want to improve your understanding of the topic?

It's not too late to improve.

best wishes,

Craig

Hi to all of you viewing my details. I do hope I can help to solve your problems, whatever they are. (The ones connected to passing GCSE and A levels, I mean!).

As we hit Easter, I still have some space to fit in new students. If you may be wondering whether it is really worth engaging a tutor in this late stage in the year, let me tell you that it is, absolutely. In one session I can improve a student's writing; impart a wide range of tips in terms of revision, preparation, exam technique and how to approach to whole exam-taking process that will give them a competitive advantage. In two or three sessions I can do more. Rapid improvements can be made when the advice being given is right, when it can be easily applied and when the student is hungry to do it.

Take care all,

Craig

NOTE: That quoted prices are based on the assumption of my travelling to the student. For lower rates, fix lessons at my home!

I'm Craig, a very dedicated one-to-one tutor of History, Politics and English. I offer an exceptionally high level of expertise as a history, politics (and English) teacher, teacher of essay writing, exam writing and exam taking. This is based on well over two decades of experience in schools and in homes.

When not tutoring, most of my time is spent working (hard!) as a student too! I am a second year PhD student, supervised by Professor Tony Collins of De Montfort University, Leicester, undertaking research in 20th century British history.

NEW SERVICE: COMPLETE APPRAISAL OF A STUDENT'S ESSAY WRITING, COMPRISING GENERAL ASSESSMENT OF SKILLS, STRENGTHS, WEAKNESSES & POTENTIAL AND LINE-BY-LINE MARKING/COMMENTARY ON ANY ESSAY OR SOURCE-PAPER ANSWER SENT. THIS WILL LEAVE YOU ABSOLUTELY IN NO DOUBT ABOUT YOUR SITUATION AS A STUDENT-WRITER & WILL GIVE YOU ABSOLUTELY CLEAR AND PRECISE ADVICE AS HOW TO IMPROVE. COST OF THIS IS £40 (to be paid on delivery of my assessment to you, not paid up-front by the student/parent).

I am exceptionally well qualified. I have an MA (2011) in History and am now studying for my doctorate. I have written fiction and non-fiction. I have had experience in being an A level marker with an exam board. I have had long experience in teaching and preparing whole History & Govnt. & Politics year groups for A level, producing outstanding results.

I take on all types of students. Some need a lot of training, some need to be dragged away from a collision-course with failure, some need finessing, some need waking up, some need inspiring, some need a boost in confidence; some need more intellectual stimulation; all can and do improve their writing.

My chief strengths are: 1. I know how to teach students to write. 2. I know how to prepare them for exams. 3. My methods are clear, simple and work beautifully. 4. I care very much about the progression of my students. 5. I treat my work with them with the utmost seriousness. 6. But I'm a human being with a sense of humour! 7. I am very, very experienced. 8. As a parent of three children who have gone through the school and university experience, I understand what both the student and the parent is going through.

I am very happy to work with students online. I have found it to work extremely well.

More on my current research project...
I am currently working on doctoral research into the BBC, sport and social class, 1922-64, with Tony Collins at De Montfort University, Leicester. He is the director of DMU's International Centre for Sports History & Culture, a department of world renown, and the leading British powerhouse of sports history. I am very proud to be working with Tony and within the department. Undergrad students should note that I am working under one of the world's best historians, a 3-time winner of the prestigious Aberdare Prize for Sports Books.

Becoming a student again, beginning with the masters degree course at De Montfort University in 2010 has really helped my teaching. As well as keeping on top of developments in academic history. I am much better read! I know more! It has also taken me right back in touch with what it feels like to be a student and all that follows from that. It has also enabled me to extend my tutoring potential to undergraduates and masters students.

I'm happily married with 3 children fully grown (it's only their father who's lagging behind).

Teaching Experience:

I taught for 24 years in secondary schools in Bromley, Kent and Derbyshire where I now live. History was my specialism but I was head of Politics for a number of years in the last part of my school career. I also taught Geography, Economics, English and R.E.

Since beginning to tutor students, I have taught history, Government & Politics and English (including basic literacy skills to a young person with dyslexia). Courses taught have mostly been those at GCSE and A level.

I have taught a wide range of topics within French, German, Russian and British history. The list includes the usual suspects: causes of World Wars 1 and 2, Hitler and the Third Reich, the Russian revolution and Stalin as well as aspects of Irish and Chinese history and 19th century France and Russia. Since becoming a PhD student my expertise level in terms of content knowledge has leapt forward in 20th century British history. However...

...it isn't the historical content of the course that matters so much: technique is the key; know-how; how to write; how to take an exam; how to prepare for the whole exam period; how to approach the whole thing mentally, psychologically; how to be the best you can be; how to be successful - end of story!

I have worked with students on exam preparation and revision, coursework planning and execution and essay writing techniques. It is here that the battle to improve and to reach a fulfillment of potential, often with the reward of high grades, is usually won.

Tutoring Approach:

I don't tinker around the margins of issues. I give students something all those who come for help require: a method to use to dispose of the problems posed by the issue of writing that dreaded thing: the essay! Not a tinkering round the edges of the thing, a tip here, a bit of advice there, but a comprehensive yet simple and absolutely clear set of actions and principles through which the student can fulfill their potential: show the examiner what they know and understand of the topic.

Following on from the above, my approach to tutoring begins and ends with the drive to be successful. If I did not unfailingly improve students, help them to achieve the grades they want and need I would not be writing this.

In between comes what we might describe as philosophy and methods. It's hard to write about methods without immediately mentioning what I suppose might be my strongest "offer" (I don't much like that word but there, I've used it). As a schoolteacher I developed a unique but simple method of essay planning and writing that achieved stunning results. So successful has it been over 20 years that I am astonished that no one else seems to have found it. But in my experience up to February 2013 no teacher has. Essay writing is still something that many, many students find difficult and confusing. It really does not need to be this way.

Obviously content issues are hugely important and here I rely on my communication skills which have yet to let me down! These, naturally, go hand in hand with a knowledge of British and European history across a variety of years which has grown over recent years particularly through my MA studies, my PhD research and through working with students on a range of historical periods, topics and people. I find myself to be adaptable to different types of students. I am able to adapt my language and my technique to fit the situation. I am also somewhat stubborn in that I never give up on solving a problem. If we have to go over time, so be it!

Finally, some more of my personal philosophies of teaching. I believe that students generally do not achieve their potential. With each student I aim to take them to standards (and grades) that they did not think were possible. Without exception I push, push and push until we run out of time as we inevitably do. I also do not believe in lost causes. Much can be achieved in a very short space of time. I have seen this happen over and over again.

There is much more to be said but that, I hope, will do for now.

Craig

Personal Description:
**11+ Entrance Exams: Having successfully tutored my son 11+ exams for Tiffin School, I decided to tutor other students in preparation for Grammar School entrance exams. I coach specific techniques, short cuts and tips that enable students to gain competitive advantages; to be "ahead of the games".

**11+ Verbal Reasoning (VB) is problem solving using vocabulary, language and mathematical skills. I coach students how to completing sequence, working out numerical codes, logical reasoning, mathematical reasoning, alphabet reasoning, word codes, patterns, anagram, coded sequences etc. My tuition helps to develop students' word power, vocabulary range and reasoning skills.

**11+ Non Verbal Reasoning (NVB) is solving problems using patterns and shapes. I emphasize tackling questions on analogies, codes, similarities, series, components, patters, layering, movements, manipulations, odd one out, matrices, elements, logic etc.; There are about 21 types of question set by GL Assessment, e.g. identifying, rotating, missing coded shapes etc. Strategies of ensuring students to master techniques thoroughly to a high level, understanding the instructions and information, training students to "think on feet" and coping with the unexpected will be implemented in my tuition.

**11+ English: I prepare students for their Comprehension and Creative Writing skills, including story plot ideas, structure, dialogues, endings, character development, grammatical knowledge, vocabulary, sentence structure, spelling, grammar and punctuation. I am able to assist students in building confidence, reaching full potentials and stretching abilities whilst maintaining high academic performances.

**11+ Maths: Apart from training on mental arithmetic and core maths skills, I ensure students not to get bored with numbers and formulas by introducing an element of fun into lessons, e.g. playing maths games, puzzles at the end of the session. I familiar students with a wide range of key questions types, layout, format and topics, identifying individual needs, and targeting weak areas, boost scores and confidence, highlighting strengths and weakness in the core skills.

**QTS Numeracy Skills Test:

Understandably many candidates find their mental arithmetic skills have gone bit "rusty" over the years and revisit some areas in general mathematics and statistics is certainly a must when attempting a pass for the first time.

My "Speed Methods" of calculation enable candidates to solve Mental Maths questions against limited time; "accuracy and speed" coming hand in hand. In addition, I teach Interpretation of Graphs and Data, helping candidates to identify trends and patterns; interpret statistical information; make comparison and draw conclusions when answering multi-stage questions.

I group similar questions together; teach students how to make notes; look out for key phrases; draw on the graphs; identify students' common mistakes…..

A basic "spoon feeding" style makes my tutees understand the techniques easily and quickly. They soon become competent in the mental arithmetic's area with speed; grasp the knowledge of the conversion between fractions, decimals and percentages. Many tutees found my tuition useful and passed their QTS Numeracy Skills Tests after my effective coaching.

**Mandarin Chinese: I am a native Mandarin Chinese speaker, fluent in English and experienced in tutoring for children and adults at all levels; whether it is for business, exams, travel or leisure. Familiar with the required syllabus and criteria, I'm efficient to prepare GCSE, IGCSE, IB, A Level & University Degree Chinese exams etc. HSK or YCT.

For the Pre-Modern Chinese Literature exam, translation, interpretation, comparison and comment on Chinese Classical Poems are taught; focusing on essay writing skills for Chinese History and Thought Exams.

I helped university student's Mandarin Grade from "Fail" to "2:1", tackling four areas of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing skills improvement.

** Maths subjects (KS1, KS2, KS3, GCSE, A Level): Familiar with the National Curriculum, I stretch students' abilities and potentials. GCSE and A level Maths students have improved their grades and confidence following my tuition. I have proven records of raising Grade E to C, Grade D to B and Grade C to A Star. I cover Edexcel, AQA, OCR, IGCSE and IB Maths.

** A Level Sociology and Psychology: Lots of practices of exam style questions and exam techniques are the keys to gain that top mark. I aim to improve student's exam performances by going through examples and activities to develop their abilities of self-assessment or peer-assessment; thus focus on teaching essay writing skills in the format, styles used by major exam boards' Mark Schemes following the syllabus and specifications. Students will be asked to practise past papers questions under timed condition. After weak areas are highlighted, a checklist of comments and marking will be provided.
I teach how to have most focused way to approach exam questions in order to gain maximum marks in a variety of ways:

-write essays as close as to the "Model Answers";

- "read questions"(to understand what is exactly being asked), to select relevant materials, to plan and construct essays with a sharp opening, main content and closing paragraphs, using link sentences, attention to grammar and punctuation;

- use "key phrases/words" throughout an answer; link data item to the questions which give more focused responses rather than a "knowledge list";

-develop students' abilities of evaluation, analysis, interpretation and application; integrate knowledge and understanding with context and testing claims giving a "critical edged flavour" to the essays ;

-identify alternative claims and refer them in the answer. My teaching methods and styles for A level Sociology & Psychology enable students to be active learners, not just sit and absorb knowledge passively. Students gained Grade A in the re-sits after my tuition defeating previous Grade D taught by their own school teachers.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching methods have enabled many pupils to successfully get into a variety of Grammar Schools (including Tiffin Girls, Langley. Slough Grammar etc). I am able to assist students in building their confidence, reaching their full potentials and stretching their abilities whilst maintaining high academic performances.

In addition, my teaching style is geared towards building problem solving skills, improving accuracy and speed, providing remedial work for those struggling as well as making study interesting and engaging.

Lessons are flexibly planned to tailor teaching in a way that meets the individual's needs, suits each one`s cognitive ability and learning pace. Realistic targets are set and weekly manageable amounts of homework are given with regular assessment to monitor progress.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm methodical, reliable and friendly. I'm able to help students with their understanding and make complex concepts simple.

Personal Description:
I am a private maths tutor, although I teach other subjects too. I am very passionate about the maths, in fact I have studied it at degree level for that reason. I hope to potentially be a maths teacher in future, as I can think of nothing better than sharing the skills that I have learnt throughout my life in education with others and watching my students flourish when they realize the joy of learning. Teaching is a very rewarding and respectable job and if done properly it can mold the lives of many young people.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working for a tution center part time for a couple of years now, which is open during school term time. I teach up to GCSE level there, focusing on maths, science and English. I also work privately helping those of all ages and abilities, including adult learners as well as children of a very young age.

Although I claim to help up to an A-Level maths standard, I have the ability and experience to help those at university struggling with foundation maths courses, or statistic related modules within most university courses.

Other subjects I teach privately include the social sciences, such as psychology and sociology. However as mentioned maths is my forte.

I have also taken part in a mentoring programme called paired reading, where I helped children in high school who were not reading at their aspired level, reach new heights, which consequently lead to them doing better in English.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that a student should feel comfortable with their teacher. Although you have to take a firm approach at times particularly when handling groups or younger children. If a child is apprehensive towards their teacher, they will be reluctant to ask for help, and therefore their hesitation will result in them not reaching their potential. I believe a person can achieve anything if they dedicate the right amount of time to it. More importantly if they show interest in it. As a tutor it is my job to help my students unlock their potential. To show them the real life application of what they are learning and how to apply their new found knowledge.

Personal Description:
I have completed PhD in Aerospace Engineering from The University of Manchester. I offer assistance to degree students in assignments and dissertations. I also offer home tuitions for GCSE and A level students. Currently I am teaching at the University of Manchester to engineering students.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught as Lecturer at under-grad level in the department of mechanical engineering, UET Lahore for almost three years. In January 2007, I joined the department, as Lab Engineer and then promoted to the position of Lecturer after completing Master's degree in 2009. The university and the department claim top position in national ranking and also enjoy the honour of being the biggest and oldest ones in the country. My career of about two years here was full of struggle and effort for excellence in teaching and research.
In addition to that I have have given tuitions as Home Tutor to GCSE and O/A level individuals and small groups.

Tutoring Approach:

I always have the highest expectations of pupils and always have had, even when it was fashionable for learning to be more "child centred"; this is an approach I have found to pay rich dividends in terms of a pupil's academic and personal development. I have always managed to maintain friendly and relaxed environment tailored exactly to what the students requires. Above all I can offer general education and career advice when it matters the most and have observed that my students usually make fast progress towards their goals and good outputs.

Personal Description:
I am nineteen years of age and am currently studying English Language and Literature at Oxford University. Alongside this, I enjoy a growing musical career as an operatic soprano, as well as undertaking freelance writing work. Now living between my home in Somerset and my college at Oxford, I enjoy sports such as horse riding, hill walking and kayaking, and love spending time with my four pre-teen nephews and nieces, of whom I have fond memories of helping learn to read.

Teaching Experience:

- Head of my college's Literary Society, which involved leading sessions and being solely responsible for the education of my peer group on a variety of topics
- I teach singing in my spare time
- As there were many foreign students in my previous college, I have often (and still do) help proofread their work for readability and help correct them to more natural-sounding English
- I traveled to Sierra Leone in 2010 to teach voice in the country's one music academy

Tutoring Approach:

When I was at school, I was lucky enough to be surrounded by a friendship group who loved learning, loved school and were ambitious in their university dreams; however, many young people are not so lucky to have such an inspiring peer group. As a tutor, I make it my first priority to be enthusiastic, fun and dynamic about my subjects, as learning can never take place in a dull environment where the pupil feels little or no interest.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified, UK trained teacher and an experienced tutor with proven track record in results and ability to successfully personalise my students' learning, based on their individual circumstances and preferences, whether it is learning Russian or Dutch for business, leisure and travelling or helping children develop their English and Maths skills further.

I can provide all levels of support: private language lessons for adults, document translations to or from Russian and Dutch, language tutoring of bilingual children/teens and fast-track language introduction/begginers courses. In addition, I have a particularly wide knowledge of providing general Russian/Dutch teaching for adults travelling to Russia, including countries of former USSR, where Russian is still one of the official languages, Belgium or the Netherlands, for work or family reasons.

I have completed a BA (Hons) degree in education (graduated with First Class Honours) and a Postgraduate teacher training course (PGCE). I actively teach in British schools, thus this experience enables me to understand and apply current, most up-to date, teaching techniques and assists me in making the learning experience of my students engaging, productive and stimulating.

I am extremely flexible and reliable and I appreciate the importance of meeting the requirements of each one of my students in a shortest time possible. Therefore, I usually meet my prospective students for a free and totally informal chat, prior to agreeing to a programme of study. This allows me to assess your individual needs and design the best language training tuition program.

Teaching Experience:

4 years as a private tutor
3 years as a teacher on International and National level in a range of primary schools, special educational establishments, private sector and Beijing University (taught English as foreign language)

Personal Description:
I am 20 years old, and I am currently studying English Language and Linguistics. My native language is Greek, and English is my L2.

Teaching Experience:

I had a TEFL training course, and I have TESOL as a course at university, for 1 and a half years. These courses are mainly teaching you the best ways to teach both children and adults, but I was also taught the best approaches and methods in general teaching (reading, writing, listening and speaking skills/study skills). I also participated to a class of the age of 8-9 as a teacher assistant where I had to help the students with their reading, homework, answering their questions etc.

Tutoring Approach:

I started tutoring since high school, to my classmates whose their first language was not Greek or English and they needed help with their homework. Additionally, I was occasionally tutoring children of my relatives and friends, in order to improve their English.

Personal Description:
I am currently embarking on a Masters at the University of Oxford.

I have achieved a higher upper second class degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford.

Teaching Experience:

My work over the last 2 years with education project, The Hackney Pirates, has given me plenty of experience working one-to-one with children of different abilities and behavioural standards on literacy, numeracy and creativity.

I have tutored A-level economics to a student who was unable to attend school due to a hospital operation. I followed his teacher's guidance in order to ensure that he was not falling behind the class and was also able to go over work from previous terms that he had not fully understood. The student went on to achieve an A* in his economics A-level.

I have tutored a number of children aged 6-12 in my local area; Hackney. This included basic numeracy and literacy up to entrance exam assistance. In each case the school teachers reported visible improvement in the child's ability and 3 of the 4 quickly progressed to higher sets in Maths and English.

During the summer of 2010, I taught English language at a school in Uganda. this taught me how to explain the language clearly, to classes of up to 50 children and gave me confidence in my ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a good communicator and have always enjoyed getting to know children and feel a personal sense of achievement from watching them progress intellectually.
I believe that all children are academically capable and that it is important to be flexible and creative in teaching methods in order to engage children and young adults in order to realise their full potential.
I believe that inner confidence and determination are what it takes for people to do well at each stage of the learning process and try to use my energy and enthusiasm to inspire these qualities in those that I work with.

Depending on the needs of the student, I am able to adapt and tailor the sessions either to academic rigour or to engagement and enjoyment. For example the approach I would use for someone looking to apply to Oxbridge is extremely different to that I would use to engage those who are disinterested or distracted at school.

Personal Description:
I'm a sixteen year old student from Blackheath, London, who is in search for a casual summer tuition job, with flexible hours, as well as a part-time job with compromising hours from September onwards (due to sixthform hours).

I myself, have just finished my GCSE public examinations in 10 subjects; my iGCSE qualifications include Science, Triple Award (Biology, Chemistry & Physics), English Language, Spanish and Mathematics, and my GCSE qualifications are in Religious Studies, Geography, Food Technology and English Literature.

Having done eleven plus, and thirteen plus entries myself, I have an excellent understanding in the tuition requirements for people of this age. Additionally, my very recent GCSE examinations also means that the tuition I can provide for students in years 10 and 11 will be extremely relevant to what I have been working for in the past two years, and in turn, I can relate to the student remarkably.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored primary school children (aged from 9 to 11) for their internal Mathematic examinations, as well as having done work experience with children aged 11 to 14 and teaching them important exam techniques for their upcoming entrance examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is extremely friendly and light-hearted. Although the tuition, and quality of the teaching itself is extremely significant, the student's comfort is of equal importance, because their approach to their tuition lessons is what, primarily, will affect their overall performance.

I am relatively young amongst the market for tutors, turning seventeen only in October. I think this enables a mutual and less threatening or 'scary' relationship between my students and I, which is important for the development of your child's intelligence.

I like to use workbooks and posters to illustrate ideas to my students, because I think visual, along with auditorial learning is a key aspect of education.
