Personal Description:
I am used to teaching students of all ages. I have a first degree in History and English and a masters in Art History. I have been teaching successfully in London for the past 14 years and can honestly say that I have never had a student fail, whether it be for an entrance exam or GCSE, 'A' level or even at University helping with a final dissertation. I enjoy tutoring on a one to one basis and am passionate about my chosen subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught at further education colleges in and around London as well as private schools mainly in English and History for G.C.S.E. and 'A' Level students. I am also an Associate Lecturer for the Open University in the Humanities. My main strengths are in private tutoring in which I have been engaged for the past 14 years around London and more recently in Norfolk.

Tutoring Approach:

In the case of coursework for GCSE or 'A' level I am happy to have students email their work for me to check over and then have a lesson in person. With regard to working towards examinations, I prefer to use the question papers as the basis for learning as generally each exam board has a preference for the way in which questions are answered especially in the subjects I teach. English and History especially are open to interpretation I believe the need to read around the subject and offer a wider knowledge than is generally taught at schools or colleges is vital. Regular tuition is therefore preferable, so that all problems can be addressed.

Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Jodie. I am a 28 year old female currently studying a PhD in Education Policy at The University of Nottingham. I am friendly, enthusiastic, organised and I have several years of experience tutoring students with a range of abilities, both at home and in a school environment.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or require any further information.

Teaching Experience:

Summary of Tutoring Experience:

Over the past six years I have privately tutored numerous children aged 6-18 in English Literature, English Language, Social Sciences, and Mathematics.

For five years I have mentored students applying to Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities as part of the Oxbridge Mentoring Scheme run by Insight Education. This involved supporting students throughout the entire admissions process, including writing their personal statement, interview preparation, support with developing their analytical skills and preparation for entrance examinations.

For two years I worked as an academic tutor in an inner city comprehensive school in London. Here I tutored sixth form students in English Language, English Literature, Social Sciences, and Media Studies. A large component of this role was supporting students with essay writing skills and study skills and I am happy to support students with these skills in a general way, or in relation to a specific subject. In this role I also coordinated and ran summer school transition programmes for students moving into year seven, and tutored mathematics and English to year seven students. I am therefore comfortable teaching and supporting students from a range of different year groups.

I have tutored GCSE English to students who have been excluded from mainstream school, and students who are struggling to pass GCSE qualifications. Several of my roles have contained a motivational and mentoring aspect, and I have lots of experience of getting students organised in their approach to study.

Summary of Academic Qualifications:

A levels in English Language, English Literature and Sociology all at grade A
BA English Language and Literature (2:1) from The University of Oxford
MSC Social Policy with Distinction from The London School of Economics and Political Science
MA in Research Methods (Social Policy) with Distinction from The University of Nottingham
I am currently undertaking a funded PhD in Education Policy at The University of Nottingham

As I have degrees and post graduate qualifications in English Language, English Literature and Social Science subjects and I am happy to teach these up to degree level. I have tutored key Stage Two mathematics privately for five years and I am and I am up-to-date with the curriculum and preparation needed for Key Stage Two SATS examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is very much dependant on the student. I believe that different people are suited to different learning styles and therefore I always take the first couple of sessions to assess how a student likes to work and what their difficulties might be.

I like to set 'homework' tasks - even if they are very short - to encourage the student to develop the skills they are learning in their own time. I am happy to mark additional work and essays and to e-mail students with any advice or feedback that they may require whilst working on a particular assignment.

Personal Description:
After reading English at the University of Cambridge I completed a masters at the University of London and now work as a tutor and also as a freelance theatre director. Most recently I have been working on a production for the Royal Shakespeare Company and teaching English and Drama to private students.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for the past five years and have a strong track record for helping students to achieve their desired grades and receive places at some of the top schools and universities in the country. Most of the students I have taught have been aged between 10 and 18, although I do also have experience teaching younger pupils and adults.
Further to private tutoring I have a great deal of experience in workshop leading and have taught groups at a wide variety of institutions including Sheffield Theatres, RSC, Malvern Theatres, NODA, the University of Cambridge, and Performance Industry Platform.

Tutoring Approach:

Although I always adapt my teaching methods to the particular needs of each student, the areas I mostly focus on include: sharpening critical and analytical skills; expanding students' vocabulary and understanding of literary terms; essay planning, structuring and writing; revision and examination techniques and building confidence. My own passion for literature and drama feeds into my teaching work and as well as aiming to help students achieve high standards in their academic studies, I also endeavour to encourage them to develop a long term interest in novels, poetry and plays. By tailoring my lessons to the individual student I hope to make each session engaging, enjoyable, and both creatively and intellectually stimulating.

Personal Description:
I am a committed and hard working teacher of English who has a genuine interest in the subject and enjoys the various challenges that teaching brings. In the rapidly changing world of education, I have always been keen to employ fresh approaches and teaching styles both in my planning and teaching in order to develop my teaching repertoire and cater for the varying needs and skills of the students as well as being open to teaching a range of new texts. Other people would say that I'm approachable, patient and very determined to achieve my goals.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a teacher of English in Secondary education for over ten years now and in that time I have taught across the ability range at GCSE level in English and English Literature. I have also been Gifted and Talented Coordinator for five years and particularly enjoy the challenge of working with the most able students. I taught a GCSE top set group who achieved record A/A* results in English. A student in this same group achieved full marks in their coursework. I feel that this testament to the fact that I work hard to make my lessons as engaging, challenging and as inspiring as possible in my planning and teaching so that the students are motivated to achieve their potential. Finally, I have attended all learning and teaching courses in my current institution and have planned and delivered an inset course for the whole school on teaching Gifted and Talented students. I am currently teaching at The Becket school and I tutored two students last year - both students achieved their target grades.

Tutoring Approach:

In my practice I would say that I'm very much student focused in that I'm responsive to the individual needs of the students and encourage students to take responsibility for their learning rather than adopting a prescriptive approach to teaching in which the student is simply a receiver of knowledge and information. In the past I have found that this approach motivates students to become more active learners because the onus is on them to become more independent, critical and reflective learners. All of which are fundamental attributes of the highest attaining students.

Personal Description:
I am a 3rd year Politics student at The University of York. As Politics itself is interdisciplinary, I feel I have a wealth of experience and expertise to offer any prospective students. I hold 8 GCSEs at A/A* grade, including all of the subjects I have offer to tutor, as well as A grades at A-Level in two of them.

Teaching Experience:

As part of Churchill House, School of English Language's Summer learning scheme, I have spent two residential stints in successive summers at a Derbyshire boarding school, assisting foreign students both in and out of class. I have worked with children between the age of 11 and 18.

During my sixth form years, I was a language coach for Key Stage 3 students at my school in French and Spanish.

Tutoring Approach:

Students should think aloud and use me as a sounding board. Essays should be spoken before they are written.
I believe in structuring arguments and tackling a problem one step at a time, something often rushed through in the exam. Quality will always outweigh quantity and the student should be reminded of this. I try to contextualize any of the points I make to a student, perhaps likening it to something they are already interested in. The student should stop thinking in terms of assessment and start to consider the application of the subject in the real world - this often leads to a greater enthusiasm. Analogies and acronyms are key to remembering important facts and figures. I do honor mark schemes and they will of course form the bedrock of my teaching, but in order to truly make the student better at the subject, I feel this is something that should be transcended. A pass is not enough. An A grade is my aim for my students.

Personal Description:
A highly energetic and enthusiastic individual, specializing in teaching Biology,Chemistry,Physics, Mathematics and IELTs.I am a friendly person and a professional tutor. By qualification, I am a Doctor of Pharmacy and also hold an M Phil degree in Pharmaceutics. i have also got an overall score of 8 bands in IELTs which demonstrates my strong communication skills. My tutoring experience has made me patient and analytical, so, I always adapt the most suitable teaching approach which is individualized based on a student`s personality, mental caliber and his attitude towards learning. In addition to this, I have myself got distinctions throughout my academic career.

What makes me passionate about teaching is the fact that I have always been rejoiced by the thought of making a positive contribution to other people`s lives, and teaching young students, by far, is the most effective way of doing so. I am deeply inspired by my primary school math teacher whose incredible teaching skills transformed me into a bright and hardworking student from a very mediocre and average one. It was the time when I realized that incorporating social skills successfully into the routine methods of teaching can make learning far more interesting and easy.

I customize my teaching style according to the learning needs and mental caliber of the student. Generally, I start a new lesson by giving the student a detailed concept of the scientific topic. Later on, I elaborate the general and specific details of the topic with the help of examples. Afterwards, I put forth similar problems in front of the student to solve by himself, in order to assess his understanding of the topic. I also share with my students all the possible questions and different forms of a question that they might come across in the examination out of a selected topic. Moreover, I also give them examination techniques to solve such problems effectively.

Teaching Experience:

9 years of teaching experience of science subjects(Physics, Chemistry, Biology), English and Math to the students of KS2, KS3, GCSE and A levels.I started my teaching career in 2004 with A-Level and GCSE teaching. In 2008, when I completed my Pharmacy Degree, I joined professional bodies as a teacher. I have also been tutoring IELTs for the last two years.

Tutoring Approach:

I customize my teaching to learning needs and mental caliber of student. Generally, I start a new lesson by giving the student a detailed concept about the scientific topic. Personal Description:
I am a qualified teacher of English, and also hold a BA and PhD in English literature. In addition to my 11-18 teaching experience, I have also taught literature at undergraduate level. Up to the present, I have been working as a full-time teacher of English in a secondary school (11-18), but have recently decided to seek more flexible teaching work in order to devote more time to my growing family.

Teaching Experience:

As a secondary school teacher of English (11-18), an excellent understanding of pupils and how they learn is an essential part of my role. I have experience of teaching English at both KS3, GCSE and A-Level. As a former university tutor and academic I am also particularly equipped to help older pupils through the process of completing A-Levels and competing for University positions and employment. Overall, I feel that my extensive experience both within and without the field of English teaching equips me to help pupils achieve their fullest potential. In addition, I hold a Diploma in Interior Design, and offer private tuition and home schooling in Textiles at GCSE and A-Level.

Tutoring Approach:

My style of teaching encourages pupils to enhance their own reading and writing skills, as well as providing essential support. I understand that different pupils have different needs and different learning styles, and I always endeavor to find an approach to teaching that will engage my particular pupil. I like variety and excitement in the lessons and tuition that I deliver, but at the same time I insist on a rigorous approach to study and especially to writing.

A graduate of Cambridge and Durham I have specialised in ancient languages and literature. While based in Durham I am currently completing a PhD in Old Norse literature at the Birkbeck College, University of London.

Teaching Experience:

As well as current private tutoring in English lit, Lang and Classics at all levels I am an undergraduate tutor at Durham University. I have strong experience helping students reach their full potential and gain the grades they need or higher. I have taught both online and in person, both at GCSE-adult. I was selected as an open day lecturer for Newnham college Cambridge in 2008 and I have attended several courses on lecturing in secondary and higher education both at Birkbeck and Oxford.

Tutoring Approach:

I seek to inspire my students with the same passion and interest I feel for language and literature, texts and contexts. I tailor my approach to the need of each student, but in general teach not by lecturing but by posing questions which lead the student to a greater understanding of text and context. I aim to show students how to enjoy the subject as well as teach them the means and methods to make their studying and writing easier. I have a great deal of experience helping students with exam and essay technique.

Personal Description:
Having always taken academic learning seriously myself, I am keen to help others do the same. My 12 A* GCSEs led to A* A* A* A grades at A Level, and now I'm studying towards a French degree at Oxford University. I am a very capable linguist, whose knowledge has a particular depth to it, having studied French, German, Latin and English Literature at A Level. This level of expertise stems from a natural love for these subjects, and this passion is a great asset for a tutor to have.

Teaching Experience:

I have assisted Key Stage 4 lessons at Chesterton Community College, taking small groups aside to help them with grammar and speaking tasks.

Tutoring Approach:

As I teach, I am able to focus on the exact components of the subject which it is necessary to know for the examination being taken, so that everything I teach is of the utmost relevance. Having been through the same exams I will be teaching, I will make it clear exactly how to excel. This practical approach is nonetheless accompanied by the natural enthusiasm which I have for these subjects.
As an Oxford University student, I am also well-equipped to shed light on the Oxbridge application process, as well as the application process for Hills Road Sixth Form College, which is where I took my A Levels.
