Personal Description:
I was born and brought up in the North East of England. I have always enjoyed Maths and was awarded a number of prizes for my mathematical ability during my education, including achieving one of the highest A-level scores in the country. I completed a Maths degree at Newcastle University and decided to combine my ability in Maths with my passion for working with young people and follow teaching as a career.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my PGCE at Newcastle University in 2006 and have been employed as a Maths teacher at a school for pupils aged 11-18. As part of this role I have been able to teach classes spanning the full age and ability range and have developed a variety of teaching styles to suit the individual needs of the learner.

I also work as an examiner for Edexcel marking GCSE and A-Level papers which I feel gives me invaluable knowledge of the examination process.

I have been tutoring a selection of GCSE and A-Level students for the past 5 years and have achieved many positive results. One of my particular strengths is the confidence I give students in order to overcome their fears or weaknesses in this subject.

Tutoring Approach:

I understand the varying needs of pupils and can adjust my tutoring style accordingly.

I believe the best way students learn is through careful and detailed explanation followed by questions to consolidate each topic. Setting homework is therefore an important part of the tutoring process.

To prepare students for exams I can produce booklets of past exam questions organised by topic and teach students the best way to answer each question. I will also spend time going through past papers in order to improve their exam technique.

Personal Description:
I have just finished my A-levels in Religious Studies, Classical Civilisation and Design Technology (all of which I am happy to tutor) and achieved A's in all of them, which I am very pleased with. I also judge trampolining which I enjoy greatly, and have achieved my gold Duke of Edinburgh. I am outgoing, bubbly and confident, characteristics which have been enhanced through my part time job in Lush and my participation in the CCF. I enjoy being around people and encouraging them to achieve their full potential.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught aerobics and trampolining, which are my favourite sports and I enjoy encouraging others so they too may enjoy them as much as I do.
I have also taught primary school children during work experience, these children had English as a second language and I helped them improve both their reading and writing skills as well as their confidence in their spoken English.

Tutoring Approach:

Encouragement is, in my mind, key in order to improve within any subject. Having been a student myself, I know how boring studying can get so the more fun it can be the better. I also believe that understanding something is necessary to be able to learn it, and that the simpler that something is made, the easier it is to understand. Of course, simple doesn't mean easy.
