Personal Description:
I began tutoring during my Philosophy of Science MSc at the London School of Economics. Subsequently I decided to pursue a career in science and began to train as a geologist at Birkbeck College, University of London in a 4-year degree program while continuing to work as a tutor. Over the course of the last 3 years my teaching career gained momentum and I made the decision to pause my second degree to focus on teaching.

Teaching Experience:

Since graduating I have gained thousands of hours of tutoring experience over a period of 4 years. While I specialise in teaching maths at 11+, 13+ and GCSE level, I also have a wealth of experience in teaching sciences (13+, GCSE), maths (A-level), English (11+, 13+, GCSE, A-level) and philosophy (A-level and degree level). Alongside my independent work I am a senior tutor at three high end London tuition agencies.*

I have successfully prepared students for entry into a wide range of schools including Bancroft, Channing, City of London, Eton, Forest, Francis Holland, Godolphin and Latymer School, Haberdashers', Highgate, North London Collegiate School, Queen's College, Sevenoaks, South Hampstead, St. Paul's and UCS.

I have worked as an assessor for a London tuition agency since 2010. I conduct assessments which potential tutors must pass before they are allowed to work for the agency. Assessing other tutors has given me excellent insights as to how to improve my own teaching.

*I am not permitted to name these here, but I can provide references once contact details are exchanged.

Tutoring Approach:

The key to my approach is keeping the student's mind as active as possible. My lessons are extremely questions-based and seek to guide a student to explore concepts rather than merely deposit information. Since this approach requires more engagement from the pupil, the material is better retained and more thoroughly understood.

I find the science of memory fascinating and have carefully researched and tested various memory techniques that I now find invaluable during my lessons. The luxury of one-to-one tuition is that each lesson can be perfectly tailored to the individual student. Over the first few sessions, I determine how the pupil best absorbs information and what teaching style they find the most engaging. The result is highly efficient learning which generally manages to be good fun as well.

Outside of classes I am happy to answer emailed questions and to mark small amounts of homework free of charge. Detailed proof reading and feedback for coursework assignments for those I do not regularly teach is charged at my hourly rate. Group sessions are available the charge is 50% of the normal fee for each additional student.

Personal Description:
I am a hard-working, conscientious and flexible 23-year-old postgraduate teaching in South Korea.

I am looking to tutor all passionate, motivated students at a level of GCSE and upwards, with a minimum age of 14. I am available to mark essays and conduct Internet videocalls over services such as Skype.

Teaching Experience:

I completed a UCL Mentoring programme in 2008, aimed at tutoring borderline C/D GCSE students in inner-city schools. I have worked with Debate Mate, a mentoring charity aimed at developing verbal intelligence in young people, and I am a registered tutor with several tutoring agencies, with a variety of clients on my portfolio.

I am currently teaching in a South Korean private academy.

Tutoring Approach:

Fundamentally, I demystify English. Whether it be essay structure, metaphor, politics or themes, I explain the subject in down-to-earth and practical terms, while always encouraging my students to expand their horizons and think about the world in which they live.

I cannot teach English; like all languages, it must be learnt through years of immersion. What I can do, however, is refine your understanding of it and give you tips and tricks to get through those difficult exams. Call today to find out if you can benefit from my no-nonsense style.

Personal Description:
I graduated from Loughborough University with an honours degree in Industrial Chemistry. I then went on to do three years research in Photochemistry to gain a Masters degree from Kingston University. I also have another masters degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Aston in Birmingham and a Masters in Business Administration from Kingston University. I have over 25 years of industrial experience. During my career I took a pro-active role in training and mentoring new graduates joining the firms I worked for, GEC Telecommunications Ltd and Fujitsu plc.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 14 years of teaching experience in business studies at the Open University teaching at both undergraduate and post graduate levels. I have been tutoring KS1 to KS3, GCSE and A-Level students in Science subjects and Mathematics for 3 years. I also tutor English at KS1 to KS3 and GCSE levels. At present I am tutoring KS3, GCSE and A Level students in English, Science Subjects and Mathematics.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a mentoring and nurturing approach to teaching. I prepare students both at GCSE and A Levels to sit examinations by the three main examining boards in England, namely, Aqa, OCR and Edexcel. I prefer to tutor from home and only take on a very limited number of students so that I can give my full attention to their examination success. I have tutored students who have been deemed not to be high achievers by their schools, but have subsequently gone on to gaining A grades at GCSE. I am highly motivated and nothing gives me greater pleasure than to get letters from students thanking me for helping them to gain examination success. I tutor from home as I have found students perform best in this situation and I also have access to all my teaching resources as necessary to tailor each lesson to suit a particular students needs. Although I feel tutoring from my home is a good approach I am prepared to travel to a student's home but will of course need to charge travel costs.

Personal Description:
I have recently moved to Eastbourne following six years in West Yorkshire where I worked as a a self-employed independent education consultant, and also as a School Improvement Partner and Link Officer for Calderdale MBC. I have over thirty years teaching experience in primary, junior and middle schools.I have always loved teaching children and feel that I can help them develop self-esteem and confidence.

Teaching Experience:

I have a wide background experience in teaching and education, having taught in five different schools in five different English education authorities, before becoming a School Link Officer / School Improvement Partner. I have held posts in large and small schools, with management experience in each, and I have taught children in all age-groups of primary, junior and 8-12 middle schools. I have, at one time or another, held particular responsibility for Curriculum Development, Maths, English, Science, Technology, ICT, PE, Art, French and Special Needs. I was Deputy Headteacher at two widely differing schools before becoming Headteacher of a small primary school. I maintained a teaching commitment of two to three days per week throughout my time as Headteacher of the school.

Tutoring Approach:

I base my approach to tutoring on an understanding of the individual needs of each student. I firmly believe that all children are capable of success. It is the tutor's role to find the most effective way of teaching for each individual child and to have an understanding of each child's preferred learning style. I always begin with an initial diagnosis based on discussion with the parents and an analysis of the student's current ability. Further sessions will concentrate on developing the skills of the student in line with a planned programme of work and targets, which has been agreed with the parents and student. I have a relaxed and friendly style with students but also have high expectations of their progress.

Personal Description:
I am a part-time student working towards a PhD in a subject encompassing English literature, philosophy and film studies. I am passionate about and engaged with these subjects in all their aspects and especially enthusiastic about using my knowledge of each and sharing and communicating ideas with people on all levels, within and outside an academic setting. I have previously studied towards an MA in Contemporary Literature and BA in English Literature with Philosophy and Ethics at the University of Liverpool and Liverpool Hope University respectively, during which I experienced and benefited from exposure to a multitude of approaches and interpretations of these subjects, in my own research as well as from tutors and fellow students. I am also fluent in French, having lived in Belgium as a child; as a result, I am very conscious of how I and others translate our ideas into words, interested in the process of developing self-expression and understanding, as well as able to adapt quickly and effectively.

Teaching Experience:

Over the course of my studies, and particularly over the last year, I have participated in and taught BA and MA level seminars, including co-teaching a second year undergraduate module in English Literature, for which I lectured, led seminars, marked coursework, and held tutorials with individual students. I have also tutored a student studying towards professional accreditation as a Chartered Surveyor in English, going over their written work and coaching them for their presentations.

Tutoring Approach:

I am primarily interested in establishing what the student expects and hopes to gain from tuition, in understanding their knowledge of and approach to the subject and in collaborating to develop it further, as well as creating a shared space into which I can bring in other ideas. I feel that defining and developing a sophisticated and highly personal approach to a subject is the most important aspect of education, for both academic achievement and in relating your studies to your life as a whole, and this is what I want to encourage; my own adaptability, interest in communicating ideas, and thorough knowledge of these subjects allow me to pick up on strengths and weaknesses in different approaches and to help them to realise their potential in relating them to established ideas and practices.

Personal Description:
I am 45 years old, and have a young family with one child, currently in Year 6. My wife is a headteacher locally. I have taught in a number of different school systems, including Primary, Junior, Middle and Secondary schools.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 20 years, teaching from Years 2 to Year 7 covering all Primary subjects, specialising in Leading both Literacy and Maths. I also have extensive experience teaching English as a foreign language, to foreign students.
For the last 7 years I have taught in year 6 and year 5, so have a lot of SATS preparation experience, in English and Maths. I have held a variety of positions of responsibility, from class teacher to Deputy headteacher. Currently I teach a year 6 class, as Senior teacher, and part of the senior management team, in a Primary school in Redhill. One of my current role involves working with colleagues to develop their practice in the class room.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe every percieved problem in a child's learning has a solution. The important thing is that every child is an individual, and therefore learns in different ways. This requires different teaching approaches to be used, depending on the situation. Flexibility is an important skill in a teacher, being able to adapt to whatever the needs of the child are.

Teaching Experience:

I currently have a varied client base of 10 tutees aged 7-45. Several of these been with me since September 2011; I will happily provide references to support this. I first began tutoring in August 2010 & I have taught English Literature & Language both at Primary and Secondary school level since then. Additionally, I have worked for Let Me Play LTD where I taught English as a foreign language in their summer holiday camp held in License Victualler's School, Ascot. I worked for Let Me Play in August 2011 & then Aug-Sept this year after they asked if I could work for them once more. I have taught a wide range of children with varying needs. I worked at Cove School as a Learning Support Assistant, where I worked closely with children with learning difficulties such as dyslexia. Moreover, I spent a year at Robert May's School working as an Unqualified Teacher. Throughout this role I worked with a large number of students, not just providing support for those who were less able or under confident but also helping GCSE student turn A s into A*s. I am currently working 4 days a week as a Teaching Assistant at Garth Hill College.

Tutoring Approach:

My main aim as a tutor is to improve students' English skills however; my secondary aim is to ensure that they enjoy the process. There are always going to be bits which are less exciting, nevertheless I strive for a smile every lesson.
On first meeting a new tutee I ask them a few questions about their experience of English as a subject, discussing specifically what they enjoy and what they don't, as this can often provide me with valuable insight as to how to deliver my lessons in a way they will respond to. I ask them to take part in a series of activities aimed to test their reading and writing capabilities so that I can evaluate these for myself. But, I also find it very useful to take a look at some of the work that they have been doing in school, where this is possible. After this session, which should take 30-45 minutes, I discuss my findings with the parents and ask them in which key areas they would like to see their son or daughter improve. This is only a generic template of a first meeting as each one can be quite different depending on the student and the family.
As the tuition continues I will work directly with the student, working specifically on the areas which need most improvement. I also aim to tie in from time to time with what they are studying at school as this helps to cement the learning that takes place there. Furthermore, recapping on ideas that they have been recently studying can help to improve a student's confidence as they are ready equipped with some of the answers. From this point onwards contact with parents tends to take one of these 3 forms 1) A summary chat immediately after each session (around 5-10 minutes). 2) A longer catch up on a monthly basis, again immediately after a session. 3) Email / telephone contact. Again these are not strict rules just templates, generally parents have as much or as little involvement as they wish and conversations about tuition happen whenever they are required.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified teacher of English, and also hold a BA and PhD in English literature. In addition to my 11-18 teaching experience, I have also taught literature at undergraduate level. Up to the present, I have been working as a full-time teacher of English in a secondary school (11-18), but have recently decided to seek more flexible teaching work in order to devote more time to my growing family.

Teaching Experience:

As a secondary school teacher of English (11-18), an excellent understanding of pupils and how they learn is an essential part of my role. I have experience of teaching English at both KS3, GCSE and A-Level. As a former university tutor and academic I am also particularly equipped to help older pupils through the process of completing A-Levels and competing for University positions and employment. Overall, I feel that my extensive experience both within and without the field of English teaching equips me to help pupils achieve their fullest potential. In addition, I hold a Diploma in Interior Design, and offer private tuition and home schooling in Textiles at GCSE and A-Level.

Tutoring Approach:

My style of teaching encourages pupils to enhance their own reading and writing skills, as well as providing essential support. I understand that different pupils have different needs and different learning styles, and I always endeavor to find an approach to teaching that will engage my particular pupil. I like variety and excitement in the lessons and tuition that I deliver, but at the same time I insist on a rigorous approach to study and especially to writing.

Personal Description:
I have just finished a PhD in Medieval History at the University of Cambridge, studying at King's College. I love the fact that history exercises not only historical methodologies, but also utilises language skills, literary analysis and many study skills. When not researching history, I sing in choirs and operettas.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught both at undergraduate level, in one-on-one and group situations, and at primary level. My undergraduate teaching includes lecturing, seminars on religion across the ages and the role of women in medieval Latin texts, and supervisions relating to early medieval European and Irish history. I have also helped teach primary aged children reading and writing skills when they were having difficulties in the classroom. My experience is therefore very varied, ranging from teaching young children with their own difficulties to the brightest undergraduates in the country.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is very much student led. I believe it is of the utmost importance to encourage a student to express their own thoughts and ideas, led by the questioning of their tutor. It is very important to establish a good rapport between student and tutor, in order that communication will be at its best, and a student will always feel comfortable enough to say when they do not understand. One-to-one tutoring is perfect for this approach.
