Teaching Experience: I am currently part way through a PGCE in Music and have taught keyboard skills and music technology. In addition I have worked for a company called Urban Sounds and went to various schools taking workshops for disadvantaged children. On the course I taught music technology and song writing, teaching students to use loops and combine them to create an original piece of music. |
Tutoring Approach: I'd like to teach music technology one to one tailoring a number of lessons to suit each pupil depending on ability. I can do this from home as i have a studio set up there or going to the pupil's house with a laptop and using headphones. Each lesson will focus on the different aspects of music technology such as recording, mixing, producing using software called logic audio which is a professional recording package thats widely used in the industry. Furthermore this, i have grade 8 piano I can also combine this with keyboard skills. |

Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring depends almost entirely on the subject and the tutee, although I tend to have quite a structured approach. I can offer aid with current courses (i.e. going through homework or giving explainations). Alternately I can give revision help. If it is required I can set additional work (i.e. problem sheets, internet research assignments). |

| Personal Description: I am a student in my third year of a Primary Teaching degree at the University of Cumbria, specialising in English. I am also studying for a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) qualification. I have just finished my second module of this and I am waiting for the mark but for the first module I received a grade A. I have recently been accepted to go on a placement to Poland for 3 weeks in September, which will involve teaching English to Polish children. |
Teaching Experience: My experience of teaching has mainly been on my teaching placements. On my most recent placement I had the responsibility of teaching the whole class for the majority of the Literacy and Mathematics lessons for the 5 weeks I was there. My experience has been mainly with pupils aged 5-8, however, I do have knowledge of the curriculum for older children as this is an essential part of my course. I have also had training for Catch up literacy, which is a scheme that uses 15 minute sessions to improve the literacy skills of pupils who are struggling. I am currently undertaking an Open College Network Qualification in this. I have also had experience of teaching my 6 year old cousin from a young age. |
Tutoring Approach: I feel that my knowledge of teaching and positive approaches towards teaching children are up- to-date because I am gaining new knowledge all the time whilst I am training. I feel that practical activities are extremely important in gaining understanding for both Literacy and Maths and that teaching that involves speaking and listening and other interactive methods, such as games, is very effective and more importantly, children enjoy learning in this way. |
