| Personal Description: I am a Spanish woman resident in Brighton. Since I was very very young I have been interested in languages. I started learning English as a foreign language hen I was 7 and by 14 I was pretty good! I have always worked in language related jobs and have a very good grasp for it. |
Teaching Experience: I have worked as an independent private tutor in London (can provide references) for 2 years. Visiting lecturer on Institutional Translation at the University of Westminster. French language teacher in Adult Education, Aldgate. English teacher for hotel business workers, Spain (part of FORCEM EU adult training program) |
Tutoring Approach: I believe the communicative approach (learning fixed expressions in particular contexts) is fun and useful, but I do think the base of a long term language learning is understanding the grammar, taking bit by bit as the pieces of a puzzle that, when mastered, can form endless images. This can be fun too and always very interesting. Having learned English, French and Italian as foreign languages myself, I know how to explain language in a way that is very easy to grasp, as I will constantly present you resemblances in Spanish and English that you never thought existed but that will look so obvious all of a sudden... Same as, as Europeans, we are all so similar in many ways, our languages are also very similar in lots of ways, I will just make you see it! |

| Personal Description: I am 25 year old graduate of Cambridge University with a degree in Social and Political Sciences, specialising in Revolutionary Theory and Politcal Thought. After working as a senior copywriter for a marketing agency, I chose to move back to Cambridge to work full time as a freelance writer and private tutor. I am friendly, patient and approachable with a knack for explaining complex issues in the simplest ways possible. |
Teaching Experience: I started doing private tuition last year and have since helped a number of students with a range of academic issues from A-level tuition to exam technique and confidence building. I have also helped a number of students with Oxbridge entry including mock interviews. |
Tutoring Approach: I like to take a student focussed approach to teaching. I am aware that all students learn successfully in different ways and private tuition allows this to be achieved. After an initial tutorial where we concentrate on what the student would like to focus on, how long they have until their exam and their ability, I put together a unique work programme to play to their specific strengths. Not only do we ensure that the knowledge base is sound, I spend time concentrating on exam technique, so that the student knows exactly how to apply the knowledge to answer specific questions. |

| Personal Description: I am currently studying for A Levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Latin, Economics and General Studies at the Lady Eleanor Holles School in Hampton. I am predicted A*s in all subjects, and have History AS Level at grade A. I have a conditional offer to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford. I achieved 10A*s in my GCSEs, studying Mathematics, English Language, English Literature, French, Religious Studies, History, Latin, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. |
Teaching Experience: For 4 years I had a weekly job where I helped a neighbor with English, Maths and French homework. Recently I have done tutoring for the Common Entrance Scholarship Latin exam. I was involved in running Saturday morning lessons and activities for socially disadvantaged and bright children for several months. I jointly run the school's Debating Society and so have trained several completely novice debaters how to debate. Probably my most formative tutoring experiences, however, have arisen at school, where I regularly help friends and classmates, especially in Maths. |
Tutoring Approach: I remember very clearly what public exams are like, and how scary they can be, especially if you are unsure of the material. One of my priorities in tutoring for the Common Entrance Scholarship Latin exam was building up the child's confidence through manageable activities and exercises, avoiding a "can't do" attitude. I've had a wide variety of teaching experiences and I believe this has equipped me to deal with the individual needs of every child. For example, helping friends with homework has accustomed me to explaining the concepts behind different questions rather than doing the question for them, which encourages laziness. Tutoring shouldn't be an arduous experience for tutor or child - the child should come away from the tutoring session confident in what they have learned, and the tutor should enjoy successfully explaining difficult concepts (I certainly do!). |

| Personal Description: I have recently qualified as a secondary History teacher at the University of Exeter, having previously achieved a 2:1 BA (hons) in History and Archaeology from Cardiff University. My degree background gave me a thorough grounding in most areas of the current curriculum and having recently aquired my PGCE I have a good and up to date grounding in the current requirements of the curriculum and various exam boards. In addition to teaching I have extensive experience working with young people through my involvement as a member of staff in the Air Training Corps (Air Cadet Organisation). |
Teaching Experience: I have worked in both state funded schools and independant schools which has given me opportunities to work with pupils in a variety of different ways. As such i am adept at working with pupils of all abilities in groups and on a one-to-one basis. I have experience teaching a wide range of historical topics from year seven through to A-level. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that every pupil is able to achieve to the very best of their ability if subjects are approached in the right way. Study of learning theories and teaching techniques through a part time masters in education (which I am currently completing with the University of Exeter) has equipped me to help pupils process and absorb information in ways suited to the individual learner. I believe that learning should be a positive experience and I make every effort to inject my teaching with interest and try to ensure that as far as possible learning history is not a chore but a pleasure. |

| Personal Description: I am a 23 years old French student. I am currently completing my degree from the University Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris. I study French, English and Spanish translation, History, Economics and Law at the University of Glasgow. I was born in Paris but I travelled a lot all over Europe. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught French for children in an after school association in Paris. I am also familiar with teaching to older students as I was a tutor in Translation Skills from French to English for foreigners students in my university in Paris. I have also gave French conversation lessons for American adults in Paris. |
Tutoring Approach: Everything depends on the level. I can work with children beginners for example and we would start to approach French with reading, songs, letters, colours, cultural exchange... With intermediate pupils, we would focus on the school programme, trying to explain complicated points and to correct mistakes. For adults or students, depending on the level, we would have to take a more "cultural" approach, working for example on French (all) or Spanish (beginner) conversation. Everything depends also on what you want or what your child wants. The worst thing when learning a language is to be under pressure. Spanish is a very beautiful language and very useful for sure... I would be glad to teach what I know about Spanish and Spain. I have been studying this language for 7 years now and spent a lot of time in Spain French is a very difficult language and though I had the chance to grow up with it, I know it is not always easy! Don't worry, I am here to help you! |

| Personal Description: I'm currently in my second year at The University of York studying Biology. I was also a competitive swimmer for 10 years before quitting to come to university. I passed all my A-levels in Geography, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, General studies and also did an Advanced Extension paper in Geography, which I passed with merit. I managed to obtain straight A's and A*'s in 13 GCSE's. My professionalism lies within Geography and Biology. In Geography I only studied until A-level but managed a very high scoring A grade and scored 100% on half of my papers, and I am currently studying Biology at a degree level. As I used to work part-time as a lifeguard, I am CRB checked. |
Teaching Experience: I visit a local primary school every Wednesday afternoon as a voluntary classroom assistant, ages 8-9. I also did two weeks work experience as a classroom assistant working with ages 10+. Having two younger siblings, one in the final year at GCSE and one in year 8, I am also helping and tutoring them with their courses and homework. |
Tutoring Approach: I will prepare work before each session and ensure that i have the correct resources specific to the learning of the pupil. I will be able to fill in any blanks within the course and wipe out any confusion. I also believe it necessary to keep learning active and each session to be different as I know how mundane learning can often become. |
