Personal Description:
I am now only accepting online students due to time constraints.
I'm a 40 year old documentary researcher for the BBC. Its my job to meet new contacts on a daily basis and as a result I'm outgoing and extremely personable. I have to Research new subjects from scratch in order to make informative programmes therefore I can take any subject matter and work hard to have a good understanding of it in a very short space of time. Much of the subject matter I learn is Science based.

I really enjoy teaching people new things, especially helping Students to understand subject that they have always found difficult. I understand that everyone learns in different ways and that one method of teaching doesn't work with everyone. By getting to know peoples personality, I can discover the individual ways in which they learn. This is so important in forming relationships with Students and finding out the best way I can help them to understand new subjects.

I'm patient and good humoured and am good at making people feel relaxed in my company however I will push to ensure that the students take their work seriously.

Teaching Experience:

6 years home and online tutoring students aged from 12 upwards in coursework, essay/report writing, exam revision and preparation. Tutoring sessions include tips in how to maximise exam marks.

3 months tutoring children in basic numeracy and literacy in the Philippines.

Tutoring Approach:

Its my daily job to take complicated information and unravel it so that it can be conveyed in simple terms and understood by people of all ages.

I can teach a range of subjects in a way that makes them simple to understand and in a style adapted to each student's personality. I'm also skilled at writing reports and essays, particularly understanding all the applied thinking that needs to be demonstrated to gain extra marks.

I love teaching and pass on my enthusiasm to my students. I believe that it's essential to build up the pupil's confidence in their own ability to learn in order for them to become more interested and approach learning in a more focused way.

I always supply the students with extra Q&A revision papers so that they can continue learning outside tutorials.

Personal Description:
I have worked with children in a variety of environments, initially as a trainee social worker, then as a children's nurse, school nurse and health visitor. I have three sons and as they were growing up I worked as the senior teaching assistant in the Special Needs dept of a large high school, collaborating with the teacher in charge in the planning and delivery of lessons, particularly to pupils with dyslexia. I found I loved breaking down tasks for the pupils, helping them to achieve and making learning an enjoyable and positive experience. I became really passionate about teaching and was inspired to complete a degree and qualify as a primary school teacher.

Teaching Experience:

I have five years experience as a qualified primary teacher in a mainstream school. I am fully conversant with the primary curriculum and on a one-to-one basis, have taught English and French up to GCSE level. I worked for ten years as the senior teaching assistant in a high school, supporting pupils right across the curriculum from Y7- Y13.

Tutoring Approach:

Initially, I try to build a good working relationship with a pupil, so that he/she feels comfortable and wants to learn. I establish baselines and have clear focuses so that progress can be monitored. I like to show pupils what they can achieve and adapt my teaching according to individual needs. I find nothing more satisfying than showing a pupil that he/she is more capable than they had anticipated.

Personal Description:
Currently I am working as Research Scholar at The University of Manchester and doing PhD in Aerospace Engineering.I have completed Master's degree in Thermal Power Engineering and B.E. degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore Pakistan.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught as Lecturer at under-grad level in the department of mechanical engineering, UET Lahore for almost three years. In January 2007, I joined the department, as Lab Engineer and then promoted to the position of Lecturer after completing Master's degree in 2009. The university and the department claim top position in national ranking and also enjoy the honour of being the biggest and oldest ones in the country. My career of about two years here was full of struggle and effort for excellence in teaching and research.
In addition to that I have have given tuitions as Home Tutor to GCSE and O/A level individuals and small groups.

Tutoring Approach:

I always have the highest expectations of pupils and always have had, even when it was fashionable for learning to be more "child centred"; this is an approach I have found to pay rich dividends in terms of a pupil's academic and personal development. I have always managed to maintain friendly and relaxed environment tailored exactly to what the students requires. Above all I can offer general education and career advice when it matters the most and have observed that my students usually make fast progress towards their goals and good outputs.

Personal Description:
I have been a Biology teacher for 37 years. I am now retired and living with my wife in Hartland in North Devon.
We have four adult children.
I have taught in state schools and independent schools in UK and at International Schools in Africa and the Middle East. During my teaching career I have been Head of Biology for twelve years.
I have always enjoyed studying Biology and I like to think that I can pass my enthusiasm for the subject on to my tutees.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in UK for 19 years:
Twelve years at the Radclyffe School in Oldham, two years at St John Rigby Sixth Form College in Wigan and nearly five years at Shebbear College in North Devon where I was Head of Biology.
I have taught at International Schools for 18 years. All the institutions followed the British Curriculum:
One year at Barewa College, Zaria in Nigeria and one year at Seepapitso Secondary School in Botswana.
Nearly six years in Kenya at Hillcrest Secondary School, Nairobi where I was also the Head of Boarding.
Three years at Muscat Private School in Oman, two years as Head of Science at the British School of Alexandria, and three years at the Modern English School in Cairo as Head of Biology.
I completed my overseas teaching as Head of Biology at Al Khor International School in Qatar where I taught for two years.

Tutoring Approach:

I have always enjoyed studying and teaching Biology which has effectively been my lifetime's work. I have extensive experience of teaching students from many different educational backgrounds and I have always been able to relate to my students and nurture an enthusiasm for the subject. As a tutor I would aim to make my lessons enjoyable but rigorous and I will always try my best to boost the confidence of my tutees. If students begin to enjoy the subject they will gain confidence and the examinations will then seem less daunting.
Whenever I tutor I will always incorporate the use of a computer into the learning process. I like to refer to animations and short video clips which greatly enhance the learning process. The on-line resources can then be used by my tutees to reinforce their understanding, as well as researching new material.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic young graduate who has gained a BSc (Hons) in Physics, which included substantial experience in Maths, Mechanics and Electronics. My special interest was in Optical Communications mainly involving optical fibres - a necessity in the modern age!

For this reason, I feel I have the necessary and relevant background to support students working to GCSE and A-Level standard.

I have had experience in 1 to 1 tuition for the past 3 years, which I find extremely rewarding.

Teaching Experience:

3 years tuition GCSE & A-Level

Tutoring Approach:

I ensure that what I teach the students follows precisely what they need to learn in relation to their exam board. Also, I endeavour to target areas that the students are weakest at and work from there. Due to the fact that I mainly teach science, I often go through worked examples relevant to today so that the students will understand the methods and experience needed for the exam.

Personal Description:
I am a well-educated graduate who has previously tutored Flute, Mathematics and Science.

I have also previously supported disabled students with their studies - so please do not hesitate to contact me if this is causing you worry.

Due to the need to get to know a student and their requirements, I do not charge for the first hour of my time - although this is for 'fact-finding' and not a tuition session as such.

If this is your first time hiring a private tutor and you would like more information, or have any other questions please send me a message through this service and I will happily respond by email, usually within 2-3 days.

Teaching Experience:

I have over a decade's experience teaching all subjects at primary level in addition to Mathematics and Sciences to A-Level.

I also have previous experience teaching mathematics and science from early years (5yrs old) to Secondary age and beyond including tutoring for both GCSE and A-Level examinations.

I am also first-aid trained by Wallace Cameron (First Aid at Work) and have a post-graduate leadership qualification.

Tutoring Approach:

I work under the assumption that all children and adults have the ability to succeed, and have high expectations of them. Having said this I am fully aware that a great many people have difficulty with some subjects, especially mathematics. I aim to remove the fear or maths, and instill understanding rather than teaching by rote. If you are unsure as to what your child/children would benefit from learning I am quite happy to assess them against the National Curriculum and dependent on the total number of hours you wish to book, I do not normally charge for this.

Please note that although parents are always quite welcome to stay for any session, this is not always productive as it can make some children nervous - although for flute tuition it is recommended that a parent/guardian stay for the first lesson, as this lesson includes teaching a child how to stand with the instrument, if the parent is aware of the correct position they can help their child at home and greatly speed learning. If a lesson is occurring at my home I do of course have tea/coffee facilities and somewhere you can wait for your children!

I am willing to travel to your home for lessons if this is easier for you, although an extra charge may apply to cover my time and expense although we will of course agree this prior to undertaking the session.

An hour long session to discuss your needs and talk about what you want to get out of private tutoring is offered free of charge to new students.

Personal Description:
My name is Marie-Jeanne, and I'm a Canadian and French national back in the UK to pursue a Master's Degree in Islamic Art and Architecture at SOAS of the University of London.

My educational history confirms my knowledge and understanding of both the British and Canadian systems. As a child, I studied in Canada, but I completed my GCSEs in Oxfordshire, before returning to Canada to finish school in an International Baccalaureate program, to accommodate my love of visual arts and playing the trombone.

During my GCSE's the Edexcel exam board congratulated me for receiving on of the top 5 marks of all exam takers (150000) in English Literature. I also won the English Award at school that year, and started a student council that I was voted president of. I graduated with 10 A* grades and an unfortunate B in IT. When I finished high school, I attended university in Montreal at McGill, a university consistently ranked as one of the top universities internationally. There, I studied Middle Eastern Studies and Art History, and I received a bachelors degree of First Class Honors with Distinction. I also edited an interdisciplinary journal and was the undergraduate president of my department, while playing in a jazz band and singing in a classical choir.

But school isn't everything. In my spare time I have a number of hobbies that bring me immense happiness. When I can, I enjoy painting, cooking, writing, and playing music.

Teaching Experience:

For the past two years, I have been teaching in the private school system in Cairo, Egypt. Most of my students spoke English as a second language, so I focused specifically on making things as clear and simple as possible. I also learned Arabic so that I could explain grammatical intricacies of English in the Arabic language better.

From 2011-2012, I taught in the American Division of Nefertari School, teaching 10th grade English literature. I tailored my curriculum to deal with the themes of Post-Colonialism, gender, and growing older. I taught 5 classes of 25 students. With my focus on reading comprehension, I brought 87% of my students up two reading grade levels by the end of the scholastic year.

The following year I taught at St. Fatima School in the British section. I was a grade 4 class teacher, and taught the entirety of the curriculum, save Art, PE and Music. I tried to make my curriculum as interactive and integrative as possible. During these two years, I also tutored students that needed remedial attention outside of class. I have also taught art to students between the ages of 5-12.

Tutoring Approach:

A tutor needs to be intuitive and flexible to the needs of the student so that they can make the most of their time together. Everyone learns differently, and at a different pace. By communicating with, and working with a student, I can understand how best they can glean the information I'm sharing with them, and how they can most benefit from the time spent.

In terms of resources, I try to incorporate the broadest range possible: multimedia, IT, music and various written and visual tools to get the message across. I also think it's crucial to make the subject interesting, which means asking and answering broader questions: why is this subject engaging/ fascinating to me? How can I make it so?

Personal Description:
I am currently studying a BSc in Biomedical Science at King's College London, and finished my A Levels this year with an A* in English, hence I can offer and insider's advice on this A Level, especially due to my recent experience of the curriculum. I also gained an A* in English, History, Biology and Art GCSE hence am well equipped to provide help with these GCSE's.

Teaching Experience:

I tutored a number of GCSE students during my A levels and also provided help to fellow A level students in both english and biology.

Tutoring Approach:

I find talking about the subject in hand to be extremely helpful when tutoring as it allows the tutee to reach a stage of comprehensive understanding, without have to put in a particular amount of effort. I approach all tutees with an attitude of patience, and no question or query is too silly. I'm happy to explain a problem in a number of ways until a tutee fully grasps the concept as I find that everyone has their own way of understanding things, hence different people need things explained in different ways.

I am a 25 year old Zoology graduate living in Brighton, where I now work as a freelance science journalist. Aside from my studies, I have spent a lot of time travelling to different parts of the world and I enjoy meeting new people and learning from them. I am friendly and approachable and I have a good sense of humour.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience of teaching Biology to all age groups, from primary school to university level. As a postgraduate researcher at the University of Liverpool, I taught Biology and Statistics to undergraduate students and led field studies courses, as well as tutoring privately. Since then, I have also spent time teaching primary school children about wildlife in national parks.

Additionally, I have experience of teaching English as a Foreign Language to secondary school children in Spain.

Tutoring Approach:

While I think it is important to be focused when learning, I try to have a relaxed approach when I teach, in order to make lessons enjoyable for my students. I will explain complex subjects clearly and simply, and I'm very patient. I believe that students are more likely to be enthusiastic about a subject if they can enjoy learning it!
