Personal Description:
I'm Pauline, and I specialise in French and biology. It sounds an odd combination, but read on and I'll tell you more.

For French - I'm half French and am fluent in the language having started with "survival French" at the age of five to stop my cousins from persecuting me, and then studying it at both GCSE (A* grade) and A-level (A grade). I go to France regularly and enjoy reading news articles in French. For lessons, I usually mix in reading, speaking, listening and grammar, as well as some history, geography and French current affairs to bring it to life. I am also available to practice speaking French, to improve your accent. I can teach both students for exam prep and adults if you're going to France and need some help with asking for directions and a coffee/glass of wine!

For biology - I again studied at GCSE and A-level and then did three degrees in the general field of biology! My PhD was in biomechanics so I specialise in biomechanics, anatomy and physiology, muscle and exercise science and cardiovascular; but feel free to contact me and we can discuss what you need. I can even teach plant science! I have worked with GCSE and A-level students for many years and am familiar with most common exam board questions. I am happy to go through past papers for exam practice. I have most experience with AQA exam board questions but can easily adapt to other boards.

I'm patient and friendly and use a flexible approach so you learn at your speed. Having obtained my PhD, I can relate to students and the specific pressures they face. I am DBS checked and can supply references on request.

Lessons are 25 per hour per person and 40 for two hours, including travel in and around Newcastle. There will be a small charge to cover my fuel for a longer drive, but I'm happy to discuss.

I may not be the cheapest but I'm experienced, patient, friendly and flexible - I'd rather be good than cheap!

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring since 2008, working with a variety of ages and in a range of topics from French tuition to sports coaching. I have taught over 30 students, both school students and adults, and have excellent references.

Tutoring Approach:

I will work closely with you to achieve your goals, if that's to improve in the subject for its own sake, to pass an exam or even to be able to order in French at a restaurant. During the first session we'll agree on a timetable and set specific goals. We'll set aside a few minutes during each subsequent session to assess our progress. I am patient, friendly and reliable and above all I love teaching!

Personal Description:
I am a Investment Modeller for an Enery Firm.I develop financial models to help the firm to make major investment decisions in the UK.

I am Msc, Finance from LSE and consider myself as a person who makes complex formulae simple.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught mathematics to the University, A Level & GCSE students. Most of them have done well and are thorough professionals in their respective fields. Most of them are software engineers.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in making complex formulae simple. I do that by linking a problem to commonsense or everyday life.

So, there is no need of memorising formulae. Even if you forget it, just remember the story I told you to remember the formulae !

Personal Description:
I enjoy teaching and consider myself both easy going and approachable, whilst being firm and demanding enough to get the best out of any potential student. I graduated with a 2:1 in Biochemistry (with a year in industry) from the University York. Following from my undergraduate degree I obtained an MRes with distinction in Molecular Plant Biology and Biotechnology at Imperial College London. This was followed by a further MRes with distinction in Urban Sustainability and Resilience at University College London. I am currently undertaking an Engineering doctorate at University College London, where my research area focuses on the production of algal biomass. The work falls within the fields of Biochemical and Environmental Engineering, and I have recently obtained research grants to pursue my work.

Teaching Experience:

At university I would often take part in student led tutorials and workshops, allowing me to hone my teaching and listening skills. I currently demonstrate in undergraduate laboratory classes and lead seminar discussions within my department. This university teaching experience is coupled with considerable prior activity in tutoring both friends, family and students of all ages in scientific subject areas, with high levels of success. I am currently tutoring key stage 3, and GCSE biology, chemistry and physics.

Tutoring Approach:

I have an informal teaching style and seek to understand the particular educational requirements of each individual tutee. To this end I will endeavor to promote educational development through note taking, written exercises, case studies, question and discussion periods, as well as with independent study. When the time comes for formal examinations the learning focus will shift to past paper practice and improving general examination technique. I have a firm belief in always being approachable for any type of question, great or small and l like to foster an inquisitive relationship with my tutee.

Personal Description:
I have a passion for Science and hope to go into laboratory research. In August I will be finishing my Masters in Biological Sciences at the University of Manchester.
In June 2015 I finished my BSc in Biology from Imperial College London with First Class Honours. . My A level grades were A* A A in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics (respectively). I am committed and enthusiastic in everything I do and I love new experiences and challenges.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a private tutor for over 4 years and have had over a dozen students, ranging from 4-28 years of age.

In addition to my professional tutoring:
-In the lab I teach new practical techniques and knowledge to students and my peers
-I am training to become an assistant instructor in Women's Self Defence with the charity that I do martial arts with
-I have a younger sister whom I have helped with academia since she was a child, improving her knowledge and confidence.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring is something that I thoroughly enjoy. It makes me feel like I have made a difference when I am able to help someone better understand and apply something that, up until then, teachers or peers have failed to do.
A large part of my role as a tutor, particularly with younger students, is to improve their self-confidence, I give them additional knowledge, confidence to apply and convey it and confidence to ask questions.

I believe that the path to exam success involves three things:
-Thorough knowledge of subject material
-Exam technique (what to write/say to get the marks)
-On-the-day performance

I feel that my job as a tutor is to assess these points in my students and to help them with whatever stage they require to boost their performance.

YOUNGER STUDENTS: when tutoring children I find that it is important to continuously change the activity or topic every 5-10 minutes so that the student is engaged and gets the most out of the lessons. I have learned many of the techniques for tutoring children during my training and experience as a Young Scout Leader.
In my lessons I play games based on the material and use tools such as white boards, the feedback I receive is that my students really enjoy and look forward to our lessons.

SECONDARY LEVEL & OLDER STUDENTS: I feel it is important for my students to understand how the topic they are learning fits into the wider picture. Often I find that the reason my students struggled with some subject areas is that they were not taught the broader concepts or knowledge was assumed, this is particularly common with Chemistry. I aim to fill this gap so that students learn and understand the syllabus learning points as opposed to just memorizing them.
With Maths I go through many practice questions with my students. I set a question and we will work on it together or independently, then I will give the answer and show my working. My students find it very helpful that I work alongside them and provide them with a full solution including method, as opposed to just an answer.

Personal Description:
I am a current A-level Chemistry and Biology examiner and moderator and author of A level Biology exam papers as well as textbooks and workbooks. I have worked in bioscience research and more recently in life science marketing and academic conference management in chemistry and biochemistry. I am a Chartered Chemist, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and committee member of the Protein & Peptide Science Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Teaching Experience:

I have several years' experience in one-to-one teaching, starting with giving undergraduate tutorials at the University of Oxford. I have been offering private tuition in A-level Chemistry and Biology for over 4 years.

I am able to tailor my teaching style to the individual needs of the student and to make best use of online and other electronic resources to help students to an understanding of the subject.

Tutoring Approach:

I start by identifying the particular needs of the student: do they have problems with understanding some or all of the subject; are there any areas of weakness that need to be strengthened; are there issues with exam technique that need to be addressed?

Even well taught students who have a good grasp of the subject can fail to achieve their full potential through poor exam technique. My earlier experience as a Chief Examiner, responsible for setting and marking A level exams, means that I have a detailed knowledge of the exam system and how students need to approach exam papers. My current examining experience has given me an insight into how to help students avoid unnecessary loss of marks by developing clear and rigorous approaches to their answers and to develop strategies to approach individual questions so as to maximise their performance.

Personal Description:
I am a university student studying computer science under full 100% tuition fee scholarship for the whole duration of 4 years including my masters.

I have been awarded with this scholarship for my academic merits and extracurriculars.

Teaching Experience:

I have 2 years of teaching experience in the UK, teaching 5 students to date. I have already taught AQA Physics, OCR Biology and am currently teaching two students doing AQA Physics, Maths and OCR Biology.

Recent success: One of my tutees came to me with 3 U's in Physics, Maths & Bio.
Result this Jan 12: Maths-B,
Biology- B
Physics-B

Tutoring Approach:

One thing that I truly believe is about delivering the candidate with coherent information. I don't want to fetch my student way too much extra irrelevant stuffs; well until and unless he/she asks for it. I want to make the most out of limited resources. My focus is to basically make life easier by finding out the solutions and presenting them in any comprehensive way that they find it good for themselves. If it is visual animation they want, I give it to them!

Personal Description:
I have over 15 years experience working in the science field as a researcher, teacher and exam marker. I am passionate about my subject and enjoy passing on this enthusiasm and drive to the students I teach. I have spent 11 years in academia and published my work (two papers submitted 2016). I have ongoing links with local universities and can offer advice and help to prepare students for university. I can offer support and guidance with students UCAS applications, covering letters, interview skills and CV writing.

Teaching Experience:

I am qualified to teach biology and chemistry from GCSE to A level. I have 4 years experience in a secondary school where I have taught pupils in the age range 11-19. I have worked with mixed ability classes, highly able pupils and SEN pupils. This year I am very proud of my students who have all excelled in their exams achieving above and beyond their target grades. All my GCSE students improved their mock results by at least two grades. My AS students all achieved A -C grades with the new specification. My AQA A level students all achieved the required grades to enter their first choice university (gaining A-C grades in biology and chemistry). I have experience teaching the current OCR, edexcel and AQA specifications.

Tutoring Approach:

My priority focus when teaching science is to engage the students. To encourage an inquisitive mind so that the pupils will ask questions to develop their knowledge and understanding. It is also important to identify the role of science in our everyday tasks and activities - it touches on so many parts of our daily activities and links to many other subjects. It should be fun and interesting. The ability and drive to learn something new and build on that is key to progressing in a subject.

Personal Description:
I am Cambridge graduate and A level and GCSE biology teacher who is looking to take on a few tutees. I have over 15 years teaching experience and was head of biology at my previous school.

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced A level biology tutor who has taught all of the examining board specifications. I have tutored students at all levels of ability and many of these have scored A s and gone on to Oxbridge or Russel group universities . Before becoming a teacher, I worked full time as a private tutor for 7 years which I enjoyed immensely. I have missed both the challenges and the emotional rewards of private tutoring and am now looking for students with whom I can work to help achieve their aspired grades in biology. Over the course of my teaching and tutoring I have build up a large resource of past papers, challenging and informative questions and many approaches to teaching difficult subjects. I also regularly work as an examiner on A level papers and so can offer extensive advice on exam technique and the best approaches to answering questions.

Tutoring Approach:

I am enthusiastic and patient and have been told that I offer a friendly and safe learning environment where students feel supported but also motivated and challenged to improve both their understanding and grades

Since graduation, I have continuously worked in education; as a teaching assistant, a science technician and as a personal tutor. I have a love for science, learning and a keen interest in education. These are things that make me a good personal tutor.

Teaching Experience:

In both of my positions within secondary schools I worked alongside teachers, within the science department to help deliver information to students. Since January I have been working as a tutor in Maths and Science at nationals 3-5 level. In my position as a teaching assistant a large part of my role was to work with individuals with learning difficulties, I had to make sure that they were able to access what was being taught to them. I have further developed my ability to work with individuals with learning difficulties, as well as those with high attainment. I have one to one tutoring experience from the ages of 8-18 years, with my specialty being in Science and Maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I think it is important to listen to the student and find the areas in which they most need help. There is normally more than one method that can be used to both learn and understand, finding the way that works best for an individual is something that I aim to achieve. It is also my aim to tailor tutoring sessions to the needs of the individual. There can be multiple ways to teach the same piece of information, finding the one that best suites an individual allows the best to be achieved within a session.
