Personal Description:
I have a very broad based scientific knowledge that I have developed throughout a lifetime devoted to academic and applied research. I hold a BSc degree in chemistry and zoology and a PhD in endocrine physiology. I have worked abroad in a medical research laboratory, at the Max plank Institute for Biochemistry, where I investigated the genetic basis for hereditary diseases of connective tissue. During that time I became a fluent German speaker. Subsequently I worked for over 25 years as a senior scientist at Rothamsted Research, which is a world renowned Plant Research Institute. At Rothamsted I acquired specialised knowledge in soil science, plant nutrient acquisition, molecular biology, metabolite chemistry, plant biotic stress and chemical ecology. Consequently, I can offer an in depth and up to date knowledge of a number of different areas relevant to the A level biology and chemistry curricula and to the three GCSE science subjects. Also, I have a unique perspective that I bring to my tutoring that emanates from my professional scientific experience. I believe that I can introduce a fresh angle to the learning experience that builds upon that acquired in the class room.

Teaching Experience:

Through out my career as a scientist, teaching and mentoring has been an integral part of my activities. I have taught a number of graduate and undergraduate students, visiting workers, other colleagues and junior members of staff to acquire theoretical, practical and communication (both written and oral) skills. I have undertaken in house training as a PhD supervisor and I have played a major role in the supervision of at least six PhD students and three bursary students. All have successfully completed their experimental tasks, written their theses and gone on to progress their careers.
I am an experienced speaker at International and National conferences and I have delivered seminars and lectures to both specialist and non specialist audiences.
I have organised practical projects for groups of students from local secondary schools as part of the requirement for the CREST award. One of the projects involved measuring vitamin C levels in different foods and the students were surprised to discover that cabbage was the best source. In another project different varieties of barley were tested for their tolerance to high levels of salt and the students were able to establish that the most tolerant varieties accumulated salt in their leaves.
Since leaving full time science (due to funding cuts) I have initiated a career in private tutoring to A level and GCSE students. I have been teaching up to thirty pupils concurrently, either in my home or in their own homes. I have been employed at Kings College London to teach an A level Chemistry access course, which involves delivering 4 hours of lectures per week to a group of students from overseas. I have also taken a course to qualify as a teacher of English as a foreign language (CELTA/PTLLS). During the course I gained experience in teaching both elementary and advanced intermediate adult students from a range of different nationalities.
I was a school governor for many years and partly as a result of this I was often called upon to prepare students for university interviews, particularly for science, medicine and dentistry.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a student centred approach to teaching, trying to understand the needs of the individual pupil and tailoring the lesson content accordingly. By limiting the amount of "teacher talk" at the outset I try to provide the student with the opportunity to convey what their interests and aptitudes are and what areas of the subject they may be struggling with, so that they can benefit maximally from my tutoring. I consider it essential that I build their confidence and create an atmosphere where they are happy to participate actively in the lessons and test out their ideas. I attribute great importance to positive rapport with the student and try to develop a trusting relationship, both with the pupil and, if apropriate, with the parents.
I plan the lessons carefully, always starting with targeted questions before moving on to detailed explanations of problem areas. I have a large collection of past papers which I use to re enforce the learning and check understanding. For particularly difficult topics, photosynthesis, respiration and oxidative phosphorylation for example, I find it helpful to recap in the subsequent lesson to ensure that the student has grasped the important concepts inorder to enable them to answer the questions confidently in an exam situation.
Obviously, I enjoy teaching keen students who have an ambition to pursue science further but I also find it rewarding to make lessons interesting and enjoable for those who are less engaged with the subject.

Personal Description:
Feedback from my previous students:

1) "Usama tutored our son between March and June 2012. We found Usama to be highly professional, knowledgable and reliable. Our son`s final A level grade increased from a D to a B and the subject area that Usama specifically taught the final grade was an A. We would strongly recommend Usama as a tutor"

2) "Having Usama as a tutor has allowed me to make acheievable targets, and he enables me to learn at my own pace. He has helped me gain confidence in both AS Chemistry and Biology and his easy-going nature makes the lessons enjoyable and interesting"

My Profile:

I graduated in 2010 with a 2:1 in BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences from University College London (UCL). My undergraduate research work has been chosen for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

I am now in the third year of the Postgraduate Dentistry course at UCLan. I achieved the joint highest mark in my first year of Dentistry. I am very friendly, approachable and understanding. I have very strong communication skills, strengthened further by my clinical experience from working with patients of all ages and learning capacities.

I like learning new languages and can speak elementary Mandarin. I love travelling and have a great interest in outdoor activities.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently tutoring students in Lancaster. My two A level Biology students achieved three grade improvements from D to A and U to C in this Summer's exams. I am determined to build up on this very encouraging outcome.

Before moving to the North West, I have taught students in London including younger students in my family and the local area in London and they are now studying at top ranking London Universities.

Tutoring Approach:

I start by assessing the current level of understanding of the student. I agree a personalised plan and ways of assessing progress with the student. I ask students which method is most suitable for them and proceed accordingly.

I prepare my lessons for the agreed topics to keep the sessions objective and formulate examples and demonstrations to make them interesting.

I believe in understanding concepts, so that any questions or problems can then be put into context. Near exam time, I go through the same concepts again to ensure understanding and practice by using past exam papers.

Personal Description:
I am a 24 year old trained primary teacher looking for a new direction in my life. I want to begin supporting children through the knowledge that I have and support them to achieve their own potential.
I live in the Stafford area, having grown up in this area I want to give something back to a county that has given me so much.

Teaching Experience:

Attended university in Wolverhampton where I gained a 2:1 in Primary Teacher Training. I completed four placements during my time at university working in a range of schools, with varying levels of ability and individual needs.
Having graduated, I began teaching in a local Stafford school. I worked in the school for three half terms, subsequently leaving as I felt the full time teaching job wasn't for me at the time.
I am now looking for a way to slowly get back in to teaching and tutoring is where I would like to begin.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe any form of teaching should be engaging for any child to understand and subsequently gain from what they have been shown. Children should always be involved in their own learning, taking control and directing it where they feel they need to gain further knowledge in order to succeed.

Personal Description:
I have lived in the UK for 28 years and I am a native Spanish speaker with a PhD in Molecular Biology. I am fully fluent in English and Spanish to a very high level. I hold a current full CRB check.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught under 11 year old, young adults and adults for 12+ years. I have also trained adults in team building and sales management and taught at University level.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is dependent on what the client aims are. The way I teach is based on what the client wants, how fast the client wants to achieve those aims and the level in the language. I dont use a standard course as every person is an individual and the teaching will be tailored to her/his way of learning. I will agree with the client to achievement milestones so that progress can be measured.
To clarify a few examples:
1.-If the client only wants to speak and understand I will tailor the teaching to that level.
2.-If the clients wants to become fully fluent in Spanish the approach is much more intense and determined
3.-GCSE (Higher or standard) level is taught to that level only, the same goes for A level and such

I do not tend to follow a set course as everyone is different and will have their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to learning. I will tailor my teaching to the strengths so that you can learn as fast and effectively as possible

Personal Description:
I am currently studying Geophysics at Imperial College London, Royal School Of Mines. I am an active and friendly person, and truly wish to help students whilst studying the subjects that I use in my everyday life. I have 5 A Levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. I am particularly qualified to teach the Core Mathematics modules at A level (C1, C2, C3, C4), as well as the Mechanics modules (M1, M2, M3).

Teaching Experience:

I have voluntarily tutored students in mathematics to ensure they pass their GCSE exams. However, on a day-to-day basis, I have consistently helped fellow classmates, giving explanations of the sciences and maths to help them understand the work at GCSE and A Level.

Tutoring Approach:

Students must have easy and reliable methods to ensure the best possible understanding of mathematics and sciences. Once specific examples of questions have been taught, it is important that the student tries the techniques his/herself with guidance. I am a firm believer of 'practice makes perfect', and so I prepare a range of questions that should challenge the student, whilst building their confidence in the subject. However, I understand that time is valuable and sometimes the student may just need help finishing their coursework, and so I will adjust my tutoring approach to suit the individual.

Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Yasmin and I have just graduated from a BSc Hons Biology degree at the University of Nottingham with a 2.1. I consider myself to be a friendly, patient and understanding person, who will rarely give up on a challenge.

Teaching Experience:

I have done peer to peer teaching in my Secondary school where I would help other students at lunchtime or after school.
I have gained further experience in the past 2 years, since joining other tutoring agencies, by teaching Maths, Biology and Geography A levels and GCSE's, to various students on all different levels.

Tutoring Approach:

Obviously each person learns differently, so I would always account for that and tutor in a way that works best for that particular person. Past papers are a great way to prepare for exams so I will always go through model exam questions.

Personal Description:
I graduated from the University of Nottingham after studying Applied Biology. I now work at the Queens Medical Centre as an Associate Practitioner within the clinical pathology department. I work within haematology and chemistry as well as specialist areas such as toxicology, immunology and molecular chemistry.

Teaching Experience:

I have had no formal teaching experience. However i feel that my age and recent completion of my degree, combined with work based assessments allows me to adopt a less formal approach to teaching, whilst understanding a high quality of working knowledge is essential.

Tutoring Approach:

Working within the laboratory environment i am kept up to date with scientific advances and the changes within the field, as well as being able to empathise with people regarding the bewildering array of information available. Finishing my degree within the last 3 years i am well versed in exam techniques whilst being aware that a basic knowledge of key principles makes biology much easier.

Personal Description:
I am a well educated, qualified teacher and lecturer, with vast experiences both in higher education and in teaching and learning at all levels, focusing primarily in the sixth form and above levels. I hold a bachelor degree in criminal justice, nursing and post graduate study. I am also in the process of completing a higher education course in sports rehabilitation. I have vast experience within the role of personal tutoring of all ability levels.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked for 8 years within teaching and learning, working in Further and Higher education:

- Teaching on level 3 and HND level programmes
- 4 years teaching Sport studies, Policing, and Law to both Level 3 and Undergraduate students
- 2 years teaching functional skills Maths, English
- 1 year tutoring for SATS
- NVQ assessor for health and social care
- Tutor of study skills for 4 years at local FE and HE college

Tutoring Approach:

It is important to firstly engage with the student or parent (if applicable) to find out more about the student(s) ability, their areas of study, approaches and what they wish to gain from the experience. To encourage the student to consider their own development and goals and to consider the methods of delivery utilized by the education establishment and how these meet the needs of the individuals. Once this has been done, and I am able to assess the student. I can create a detailed scheme of work over the weeks required to ensure that the sessions are detailed, and the student is aware of what is to be covered and when, regular assessment and reinforcement aid the development within the subject, as well as far as possible linking the theory to activities the student can relate to.

I find it is important to ensure methods are in place for the student to be able to continue work post session, and is at all times supported, and gains confidence in their abilities, supported further by the education establishment they are in.

All students are given an action plan each session for work to complete, and this is conducted in "bite size" amounts as the student develops.

Review every 2 weeks of learning, development and reflection helps to keep the sessions relevant and engaged, and most importantly to ensure that the student in learning and developing at all times

Personal Description:
I'm currently a fourth year medical student at Imperial College London. Throughout my school career I excelled in Maths, Chemistry and Biology, and my performance in these subjects at A-Level ultimately helped me to win a place at medical school. Therefore in addition to tutoring, I am in a good position to advise students who may be thinking about going to university to study for a science or healthcare related degree.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring and mentoring students throughout my school and university life. As a sixth former I provided weekly mentoring to GCSE students at school. I've held various positions of responsibility on a student-led education society at Imperial for 2-3 years, helping to organise and run mock exams and weekly tutorials for medical students.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe it is important to get to know each student personally, and find out what they want to achieve and how they learn best. I plan my tutorials in advance with clear aims and objectives so that the student knows what to expect from their time with me. Most importantly, I try to empower my students with the confidence to know that they are capable of achieving their goals.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying medicine at Imperial College London and also have a 2.1 degree in Biomedical Science from Aston University.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored one to one biology for GCSE and A Level students for four years and have spent 6 years tutoring children of primary school age and secondary school students aged 11-14. For the past two years I have worked part time at a tuition centre teaching both groups and one to one lessons for ages ranging from 6 to 18, in the fields of Science, Maths and English.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring style varies greatly between age groups. With younger children, I prefer the use of examples, starting with easier questions and building up to more difficult questions. I feel that this method is an effective means of interacting with the student and understanding his/ her ability. With older students, I always prefer to let the student dictate how he/she would like to learn and adapt my teaching style to their learning.

For all levels, it is important to summarise at the end of each session and provide questions to help apply knowledge.

Personal Description:
Hi. My name is Saif and I presently work as the Assistant Head of Science responsible for Chemistry at a school in London. I teach sciences at KS3, KS4 and deliver the 'A' Level Chemistry curriculum at KS5. I read Medicinal Chemistry at University College London and completed a PGCE in Science upon graduation. I studied Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Mathematics at 'A' Level and achieved very strong grades in all four subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I presently work as the Assistant Head of Science responsible for Chemistry at a school in London. I teach sciences at KS3, KS4 and deliver the 'A' Level Chemistry curriculum at KS5. I am now in my fourth year of teaching in a secondary school, having received successful school lesson and OFSTED observations. This has allowed me to progress rapidly and reach the position in which I am now. Whilst at University, I was regularly involved in helping young people with their studies through charities and other voluntary companies.

Tutoring Approach:

As a practising teacher, I am aware that all pupils will have their individual needs. That is why my approach will always vary depending on the needs of the pupil. However, generically speaking, we will need to work together to identify areas of weakness and then address those specific issues in order for progress to be made.
