Personal Description:
I am a graduate of Philosophy from UCL, and am going to begin a teacher training course (PGCE) in September 2013.

I studied the International Baccalaureate in my final two years at school, and so understand the difficulties of balancing all your subjects- particularly when it comes to tackling the tricky bits.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for 3 years now, and have 6 pupils ranging from 7-16 years old. I have also worked as a teaching assistant in both mainstream settings and a Pupil Referral Unit.

I hold up to date Enhance DRB and DBS checks.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that good teaching is integral to students' learning. Having been a student recently, I am all too familiar with being in the situation where a teacher may be intelligent and passionate about their subject, but are not able to communicate and engage with students. I believe that engaging with the student and their method of learning is key to the student understanding the work.

In tutoring and I use constant encouragement and affirmation to support young people in their learning. I find this is particularly important when young learners have had difficult prior experiences of school. I use encouragement and constant reassurance to facilitate a greater understanding of each topic. In addition I find that it is crucial, especially with younger children to teach interactively and to make sure that they are actively participating in each task.

I strongly believe that, were possible, teaching should be about making things as simple as possible- and I have found that this is particularly important with children and young people who may find class work challenging. I have been able to do this through using drawings, diagrams and real life examples to engage young learners' interests. For example, I always teach fractions by referring back to the concept of cutting up a cake, and linking this to the function of the numerator and denominator.

Personal Description:
Alumnus of Imperial College London, where I obtained a BSc in Biology, and Hampton school . Currently a third year medical student at the university of Manchester, and I aspire to join the RAF as a doctor. Played the piano for the last 14 years, and was part of the Territorial Army and therefore doesn't shy away from hard work and discipline. My teaching experience has allowed me to interact with students from all walks of life and has given me the ability to build a caring yet professional relationship to get the best out of my students.

Teaching Experience:

Part time teaching assistance, for a number of years, at local primary schools whilst at secondary school and university. Spent 3 months in China teaching English to children at a summer school. Was the senior NCO at my school's air cadet organisation where I spent 4 years teaching younger cadets multiple subjects (non academic) to help better themselves. Whilst in Sixth form I was a mentor, looking after and helping the young students, trying to make their transition from primary to secondary education much smoother.

Tutoring Approach:

Each student is different and so different approaches are needed. Some work better in old fashioned, structured environments whilst some are more 'hands on'. The ability to distinguish the strengths and weaknesses in my tutees allows me to come up with the best way to teach them. Usually a system of discipline and rewards gets the best results from everyone. By going back to first principles I can also help students discover the answer to questions themselves, building on what they already know. Ultimately I try to ensure they enjoy their teaching time; joking and laughing whilst learning will ensure they get the best from themselves.

Personal Description:
I studied Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London. After 2 years however, I decided to switch over to studying Biological Sciences locally at Salford University. I graduated this year with a First Class Honours in Biological Sciences (BSc Hons) ranking in the top 2% of our class.

I am currently conducting research into novel immune therapies for autoimmune diseases and am also in the process of starting up a part-time teaching agency. Teaching is something I have enjoyed immensely throughout my studies, and continue to do so.

Coming from a varied academic background has given me a strong foundation in all of the Natural Sciences (Maths, Chemistry & Biology and Physics). I am passionate about all of these subjects - I would be more than willing to help a student out in either of them!

I studied locally in Manchester for my GCSE`s and A-levels where I achieved the following grades:

4 A`s at A2-level in:
Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics & General Studies

6A stars`s, 2A`s, 2B`s at GCSE Level

6A stars :
Mathematics
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Business Studies
French

Teaching Experience:

Taught extensively at GCSE/A-level at all of my previous schools. This was as a part-time tutor for under-achieving students after school and during some lunch breaks.

As well as often helping out classmates unofficially I have tutored several students at my university and in local colleges up to A2 & Undergraduate level in Chemistry & Biology (and selected topics in Maths) helping them to achieve the highest possible marks in the their exams (100% success rate to-date). So far it has been an immensely enjoyable experience - and one that I am committed to pursuing!

Tutoring Approach:

I treat each tutee as an individual and work with them according to their specific needs. I believe it is important to learn how to think critically & independently, especially when tackling science and maths. I encourage and help tutees to develop this thinking process and also to find out what really motivates them to excel in their chosen subjects.

I have many relevant learning resources (books, lecture notes, past exams, etc..) for all of my teaching subjects so along with your own learning materials I will add in some extra helpful material as & when necessary.

If you can specify what exactly your aim is (whether it be to cover a single topic, to complete a past paper or to learn a whole course from start to finish in time for an exam) I will help you to prepare and execute the best plan of action to reach your targets!

Please get in touch to discuss your goals and how best I can help you achieve them

Personal Description:
Hi,
I enjoy teaching and researching. Currently, I am working as a researcher at the university.
My area of expertise includes, Biology, Maths, Chemistry and Pharmacology.
In my quest of higher education currently I am working as a research Scientist in molecular pharmacology, and cell biology. My project is associated with Lister Hospital, Stevenage, UK.

Teaching Experience:

Visiting Lecturer at the university level From last 3 years. Teaching students at the university level theoretically as well as wet lab experiments. I had 6 Nuffield bursary students to teach in the university in last 2 years. All of them are very competent and few of them went to imperial collage, cambridge, oxford and kings for the graduation.

Tutoring Approach:

If a student is not have an interest and intellectual in to the subject, I take it as a challenge. I prefer to correlate the tedious concept of science with the normal day to day life and give a flavor of importance or demand of a particular subject.
Give me an opportunity to introduce myself and I am confident that I will not disappoint you. So far, none of my student left my tuition and stayed with me for longer.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying my PhD in Biomedicine at the University of Manchester, and hope to progress on to an academic career in cellular signalling, as this forms the basis of my research interests. My current project involves looking at a type of RNA called microRNA that is known to regulate the transcription of DNA, and how this influences the poor pregnancy outcomes that often occur during gestational diabetes. This will hopefully lead to treatments that may prevent the difficulties that occur for both mother and child under these circumstances.

I have not been in Manchester too long, though I love the city and I am planning to stay here for a number of years, as it is now my adopted home!

Teaching Experience:

I taught for three years before I left to do my PhD in a successful secondary school. I taught all three science subjects to GCSE level and taught biology to A-level. I have also studied a degree and a masters within the life sciences/biomedical sciences, and I am now studying for my PhD which has allowed me to gain some demonstrator experience.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that science is perceived as difficult, but is accessible to the majority of students if they have the drive and the capability to believe in their own ability. It is one of the most important subjects to understand as it will give you a critical, enquiring mind throughout your life and will also look very good on your CV when applying for jobs! This makes me very passionate when it comes to teaching science to those that want to do better in their exams, as I believe pretty much any student can do it if they are willing to believe in themselves and their ability. I feel that interactive approaches, with the student being pushed are conducive to learning as this enables them to think about questions and get them right, or make mistakes and learn how to get them right the next time. Mistakes are often very important to make as they are learning experiences, and need to be made before any formal exam!

Personal Description:
I graduated from the University of Nottingham after studying Applied Biology. I now work at the Queens Medical Centre as an Associate Practitioner within the clinical pathology department. I work within haematology and chemistry as well as specialist areas such as toxicology, immunology and molecular chemistry.

Teaching Experience:

I have had no formal teaching experience. However i feel that my age and recent completion of my degree, combined with work based assessments allows me to adopt a less formal approach to teaching, whilst understanding a high quality of working knowledge is essential.

Tutoring Approach:

Working within the laboratory environment i am kept up to date with scientific advances and the changes within the field, as well as being able to empathise with people regarding the bewildering array of information available. Finishing my degree within the last 3 years i am well versed in exam techniques whilst being aware that a basic knowledge of key principles makes biology much easier.

Personal Description:
After completing my D.Phil from the University of Oxford, I worked for 7 years as a Senior Biologist for a small drug discovery company where I was responsible for screening new drug targets in tissue models for human disease. Over the years I've had so many comments from students/colleagues about my ability to break subjects down to ease understanding, and coupled with my passion for science and sharing that with others I decided to change career and become a full-time science tutor. I've never looked back!

I have many hobbies but particularly enjoy outdoor pursuits including: sailing, mountaineering, climbing, mountain biking and running. Most of my free time though is spent with my wonderful husband and beautiful tots!

Teaching Experience:

During my time researching at Oxford, I tutored an array of students in Biochemistry, Biology, Genetics, Human Science and Medicine.

I have vast tutoring experience at both GCSE, AS/A2 level covering all UK exam specifications, including IB.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring style is informal, working with each student to improve their approach to learning whilst maintaining motivation. At the end of the day, learning should be fun!

I usually charge a very small travel fee to cover the cost of fuel.

Personal Description:
I am a 23 year old currently studying a postgraduate degree in Medicine at Imperial College London after completing my previous degree in Biochemistry from the University of Bath.

I previously went to St. Paul's Girls' School (London) obtaining A*-A grades in both GCSE's and A-levels. As a result of my degree, I specialise in teaching the sciences and have done so as a teaching assistant for GCSE students at a secondary school in West London.

I love working with children and have been a nanny and babysitter to a number of different families as well as multiple private-tutoring jobs.

Teaching Experience:

I was a teaching assistant for 3 months at a school for disadvantaged GSCE students during my GAP year, holding several science classes on my own when the teacher was absent. I assisted in all lessons throughout the day from maths to art as well as acting as a mentor for some of the students with particularly troubled backgrounds.

I have tutored children of a variety of ages, ranging from 5-16 years old and in a number of subjects including entrance exam-style verbal and quantitative reasoning, Maths, The Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and English (comprehension and essay-writing skills).

Tutoring Approach:

In order to tutor a child effectively you have to treat them as individuals. There is no single teaching template that all children respond to, and therefore my approach to tutoring varies depending on the tutee. There are a plethora of reasons as to why children may require a tutor, with many children it can often be a lack of confidence and a heightened sense of self-doubt that holds them back academically, however there are also some that simply need concepts to be 'broken-down' in order for them to understand them.

In my experience the most effective way to learn is by practicing, therefore I initially discuss with the tutee (and parents) what their difficulties are with the subject and any areas of weakness as well as assessing how far into the curriculum they are. After this, I normally conduct lessons during which i explain any principles the student struggles with, and then leave them with practice questions (written by me) to tackle in their own time that are similar in structure to any that the tutee will face in future exams.

Personal Description:
I have been a tutor for over 5 years and have taught over 45 students in that time.
I am currently training to become a teacher, by studying towards a PGCE with the Open University.
I graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2010 with a M.Sci in Natural Science. I focus on improving confidence and question answering technique as well as fostering a deeper understanding of each topic. By relating theoretical concepts to everyday ideas, I help students find the common-sense structure hiding behind abstract numbers and theories. I also provide intensive exam preparation.

Teaching Experience:

From September 2011 - December 2012, I worked as an Editor at Boardworks in Oxford, a company that makes science and maths teaching resources for UK teachers and schools. This means I have a very clear understanding not only of the subjects and how to teach them, but also what is covered in school, by which exam boards and at what age, from 14 to 18 years. In December 2012, I left Boardworks in order to pursue a full-time career as a tutor, a choice that I continue to find incredibly rewarding and stimulating.

In the year between graduating and starting work at Boardworks, I held an number of education-related placements and internships, notably at University College London, in the Public Engagement Unit and as an Education Assistant in the Sedgwick Museum of Earth Science, Cambridge.

In 2010 I graduated from Queens' College, University of Cambridge with M.Sci in Natural Science. This course covered maths, physics, evolution and behaviour, paleontology, geochemistry, geophysics, climatology and geomorphology. This allows me to teach all science subjects to high level, and point out the links and relationships between the different sciences and maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor each lesson to suit the student's needs. The first few lessons usually focus on getting to know the student and their strengths and weaknesses. I identify areas for improvement and use subsequent lessons to work on these, as well as ensuring that the student is comfortable with the whole of the syllabus. Closer to the exam season, we will focus on improving question technique and creating links across the curriculum.
