| About Maria: I am an English graduate, with a first class honours degree and significant teaching experience. |
Teaching Experience: I have worked in Cardinal Newman Catholic School in the capacity of English LSA , during which time I worked with pupils aged 11-18. In addition to this I am experienced in individual tutoring for both GCSE and A-Level examinations, as such I have an in-depth knowledge of various exam boards and their expectations. I have also received teacher training from professionals at Sussex University and am looking to formalise this qualification in September 2009. This initial training has equipped me with all the knowledge i need to manage the learning of individual pupils and to assess their progress. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is learner-centred. I take into account the individual strengths and weaknesses of my tutees and aim to maximise strengths and systematically build upon weaknesses. I also tailor their knowledge towards the required standards whilst buiding in a sense of interest and enthusiasm for the subject. I believe that encouragement is key to maximising learning potential and aim to build the confidence of individual learners, no matter what their inividual concerns may be. |

| About corina: I am a young, friendly, outgoing, serious and fun lady tutor of 26 years old. I have finished the Faculty of Letters, specialized in French-English literature and grammar. I really enjoy teaching people everyday, especially children. Seeing them learning a new word makes me more confident. Very passionate about teaching. I love foreign languages, especially French, which I consider the most beautiful language in the world. Organized, hard-working, fun, good sense of humor. I am looking forward to working with you. |
Teaching Experience: I have tutored all kinds of people, from 6 year old kids to 35 year adults. From grammar, listening, preparation for exams, or just conversation, I took a very good time in making all of them good speakers of foreign languages. 6 years of private tutoring. English and French language, in my own country,Romania. Certified translator in both English and French languages. |
Tutoring Approach: I like to use different types of techniques, depending on the person I teach. For children, fun lessons, games, music, all sorts of interactive activities are the key to success. They get bored really fast, so a non-stop attention should be given to them. I help them with homework, and all other stuff they have to prepare for school. I have my own laptop, books and materials. For adults, a much more mature approach, in order to satisfy their needs. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Alexandra: I am a DPhil (PhD) student in philosophy at the University of Susex. Previously, I studied for a Master's Degree in Political Theory at the London School of Economics and Political Science (L.S.E.), and a BA in Media Studies. Given my interdisciplinary background, I have a flexible and open-minded and creative attitude to study, all the while ensuring targets are met and progress is made, regardless of training or level. I am multilingual and can relate to a variety of ethnic backgrounds, given my teaching and own immigration experience. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught students of different levels and abilites and have always have great success in helping them achieve their goals. I have worked with my last student, a Media Studies undergraduate, towards her final -year dissertation, which achieved a first class grade, despite the provisional fail grade before private tuition started. I have maintained a friendly, relaxed relationship with former students. I have also taught my younger brother consistently throughout the years. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe education is one of the most important endeavours in life. Given this, a passion for personal learning, and a committment to helping students achieve success, I am particularly fond of teaching. The interaction and creativity involved in exploring new ideas and ways to see the world means I relish the teaching experience, whereby horizons are expanded mutually. I am constantly developing new skills and approaches to engage students on both professional and personal levels. |

View Nadem's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Nadem: I am a graduate of the University of Oxford, where I studied chemistry at both the undergraduate (1st class honours) and post-graduate levels (Masters and Doctorate). |
Teaching Experience: I have 10 years worth of teaching experience at GCSE and A-Level, both as a private tutor, and as an associate of schools and teaching colleges. I have also been fortunate enough to have spent 3 years teaching undergraduate chemistry at the university of Oxford. Many of my students have shown great improvement. The best result achieved was a particular student whose chemistry grade (A-level) improved from U to an A in 6 months! Most students improve 2 grades at least. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach is largely dependent upon what the student is comfortable with. With some I have worked systematically through the syllabus, while with others I have focussed on key areas the student understands. The best approach is for the student to work and find out what they really don't understand, and then to approach me about those topics. There are several advantages to having me as your tutor. (1) My academic success results from understanding the foundations of the subject matter and extending these foundations through basic principles. This is the approach I encourage in my students. Though this is harder work in the beginning, it ends up being easier than learning by rote which many tutors try to encourage! (2) I have university qualifications in both Chemistry and Biology (medicine), and hence, I understand these subjects beyond A-Level. This allows me to see the application of one subject in another, and therefore I can help you obtain a synergy in your studies which will make your life easier. For example an understanding of pH (a chemical concept) helps to understand the control of respiration (a biological concept), and therefore there is less to learn. These cross-links appear throughout the A-Level Chemistry and Biology courses, something that a specialist in only one of these subjects will tend to miss. (3) If you are looking to enter Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy or any of the other allied health professions I have a unique insight into the application of Chemistry in these courses. Therefore if you are taught Chemistry by me I will give you an understanding of Chemistry which will make your university studies easier. This ability is reflected by the fact that I have been invited to give a series of lectures on the application of Chemistry to Medicine at Slough Grammar School. (4) Most of my A-Level students (100+) have improved by at least 2 grades after I have taught them, and several have gone from getting an E in AS (before I taught them) to an A in A2 (after I have taught them). Students have gone on to universities to study degrees in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Economics and Mathematics. Many have gone to study in the top 10 universities in the country. (5) Having been a lecturer at Oxford I was required to select candidates during the interview process. This process required the reading and dissection of UCAS forms, and interviewing candidates; I therefore know what universities are looking for. I will be able to use these skills to guide you to the most appropriate university for you and to help you produce the best UCAS form you can (when the time comes). (6) Studying and teaching at one of the most reputable universities in the world (Oxford) has shown me what is required to succeed and be the best. This is a skill and attitude that I pass on to many of my students. (7) As a medic my background has been checked, and cleared, by the Criminal Records Bureau. As you can see I offer experiences, skills and teaching methods which many tutors don't even come close to offering. If you choose to select me as your tutor for Biology and/or Chemistry you will be making a positive step, not only towards an excellent A-Level grade, but also towards unlocking your future potential at university and beyond. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / Online
| About Kasia: Recent graduate with academic experience in History, English and Media Studies. Also have good knowledge of film studies, teaching English as a foreign subject, and entrance exams/essays or CVs. Flexible and reliable, I cater to the individual's needs and encourage not only knowledge of the desired area, but good studying techniques and practices. I'm calm and patient, and work to the student's pace of learning rather than a specific work schedule. |
Teaching Experience: No academic qualifications, but have tutored foreign students from home for 4 years, and assisted GCSE and A-level students previously. Been involved in several teaching workshops, particularly for children. |
Tutoring Approach: I respect individual approaches to learning, and work out with the student the best way for them to develop. I understand the need to feel comfortable with the material, and attempt to find ways for students to respond individually, rather than force my way of teaching upon them. I prefer to be interactive, rather than completely text-based, and encourage discussion and involvement rather than lectured-style teaching. |

View Kate's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Kate: Hi, I'm Kate and I'm a Masters of Geoscience student at Keele university. I love my subjects, and study a wide range of Earth sciences. With this background, i look a lot at the links between disciplines, how everything works together, the big picture. This perspective can bring subjects that at first seem flat and uninteresting to life, by relating them to their wider contexts. I have travelled studying through Iceland and Italy, as well as around the UK. |
Teaching Experience: I occasionally sit with first year university students and help them work through their modules, as well as leading study groups. I also spend a lot of time with adult friends from other disciplines, helping to explain topics such as climate change, or volcanism. I also run educational workshops in local high schools, teaching market economics, entrepreneurship and business skills. |
Tutoring Approach: My education has led me always to look at the relationships between areas of study, for instance, the ocean has currents and the atmosphere has currents, but how do these affect one another? or how does volcanism affect climate change? Being able to relate an area of study to the world around it is a real passion of mine, and i believe that it reinforces a topic from many angles, and can really bring it to life. |

View John's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About John: I am an electrical engineering consultant with a degree in electronics and electrical engineering from The University of Edinburgh. I have previously worked as an electronics design engineer for satellite communications systems and as a college tutor in Wallace College, Edinburgh. |
Teaching Experience: I have tutored many students during the past five years, both privately and in classes at Wallace College. I have also worked as an instructor at Acrobounce Scotland, which is a high energy outdoor activity for children and I develop good relationships with the students who I teach. |
Tutoring Approach: Once I have established the strengths and weaknesses of the student, I tailor the content of the tutorials to suit the needs of that student. In maths and physics it is important for the student to have a clear understanding of the basic ideas and principles of the subjects, this is where we will start. Once the basic concepts are understood, the tutorials will have a bias toward exam technique and preparing for the final exam. This has proven to be a very effective method of boosting grades in my own exams and in those of my previous students. I have many years experience sitting examinations myself and have lots of advice in how to prepare for and perform well on the big day. |

View Robert Leslie's Profile
Types of Tutoring: From their home / Online
| About Robert Leslie: I am a very experienced and well qualified teacher in my mid fifties, originally from East London, UK. I have recently relocated to Swansea from the West Midlands to move into my house in Brynmill. As I obtained my first degree at Swansea University I know the area quite well. I am a very patient and well organised teacher. |
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching for over 35 years, mainly ESOL at universities, FE colleges and language schools both in the UK and abroad (Spain, Oman, UAE). Since 1981 I have taught courses preparing students for the Cambridge ESOL Main Suite Examinations (PET, FCE, CAE, CPE, IELTS) as well as pre sessional courses for students preparing for university study. Since 2003, I have also taught Spanish at FE colleges to all levels and for the Open University. In addition, I also mark Spanish GCSE and GCE examination papers for Edexcel and OCR boards and ESOL exams for Edexcel. I have taught many private classes in English and Spanish. In my teaching career I have taught students of all ages from teenager to adult. I began my career as a teacher of history in a secondary school. |
Tutoring Approach: I have given tutoring classes on many occasions both in the UK and in Spain. I am used to dealing with all kinds of students, such as teenagers preparing for GCSE or GCE examinations, pre-university students or foreign workers in the UK wishing to improve their English, business men wishing to improve their business English skills or students wishing to learn Spanish because they wish to move to Spain or who need to learn Spanish because a member of their family has just married a Spanish speaker! I like to make learning as much fun as possible by using a wide range o materials and methods. Naturally, I have acquired a considerable amount of materials over the years I have been teaching. Nevertheless, my main aim is for students to make rapid progress in their chosen subject. |

View Ross's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you
| About Ross: I am a part time tutor in the South West London area, available for evening and weekend appointments. I teach French to A level, I studied French at Lincoln University and the Universit de Savoie and lived in France for a total of two years. I also studied German at Sheffield Hallam University and Giessen Universitaet, and teach German to GCSE and sometimes AS level. |
Teaching Experience: I hold a PGCE in post compulsory education from the University of Greenwich and a TESOL teaching certificate from St Giles college. I have also lectured in tourism at Westminster Kingsway College. |
Tutoring Approach: I am very much an advocate of the diagnostic approach to learning and will adapt my teaching to suit the student. Some students may find that the 'total immersion' approach to language learning helps, even in the early stages. Lessons will be equally between conversation, grammar, listening and reading practice. Homework can be set depending on the time constraints of the tutee. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / Online
| About Mudassir: I am Mudassir. I did my MSC Computer Science from one of the top line university in 2002. I am fortunate that I have been a participant in this great tradition of learning. Having my background in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, I shall be happy to help in solving the problems. |
Teaching Experience: I have 8 years overall experience in teaching, particularly Physics, Chemistry and Biology for GCSE Level. However for Computer Science, I used to teach for both O and A Levels. |
Tutoring Approach: In my opinion teaching is not a trade which can be learnt. People are born with it. Those who have it in them can't stop themselves from teaching. Teaching for me is the ability to make others understand what you know. It is an art of sharing what you have. I believe that teaching came naturally to me. I love to teach in a friendly atmosphere. |
