I am a graduate of the University of Oxford, where I studied chemistry at both the undergraduate (1st class honours) and post-graduate levels (Masters and Doctorate).

Teaching Experience:
I have 10 years worth of teaching experience at GCSE and A-Level, both as a private tutor, and as an associate of schools and teaching colleges. I have also been fortunate enough to have spent 3 years teaching undergraduate chemistry at the university of Oxford.

Many of my students have shown great improvement. The best result achieved was a particular student whose chemistry grade (A-level) improved from U to an A in 6 months! Most students improve 2 grades at least.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach is largely dependent upon what the student is comfortable with. With some I have worked systematically through the syllabus, while with others I have focussed on key areas the student understands. The best approach is for the student to work and find out what they really don't understand, and then to approach me about those topics.

There are several advantages to having me as your tutor.

(1) My academic success results from understanding the foundations of the subject matter and extending these foundations through basic principles. This is the approach I encourage in my students. Though this is harder work in the beginning, it ends up being easier than learning by rote which many tutors try to encourage!

(2) I have university qualifications in both Chemistry and Biology (medicine), and hence, I understand these subjects beyond A-Level. This allows me to see the application of one subject in another, and therefore I can help you obtain a synergy in your studies which will make your life easier. For example an understanding of pH (a chemical concept) helps to understand the control of respiration (a biological concept), and therefore there is less to learn. These cross-links appear throughout the A-Level Chemistry and Biology courses, something that a specialist in only one of these subjects will tend to miss.

(3) If you are looking to enter Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy or any of the other allied health professions I have a unique insight into the application of Chemistry in these courses. Therefore if you are taught Chemistry by me I will give you an understanding of Chemistry which will make your university studies easier. This ability is reflected by the fact that I have been invited to give a series of lectures on the application of Chemistry to Medicine at Slough Grammar School.

(4) Most of my A-Level students (100+) have improved by at least 2 grades after I have taught them, and several have gone from getting an E in AS (before I taught them) to an A in A2 (after I have taught them). Students have gone on to universities to study degrees in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Economics and Mathematics. Many have gone to study in the top 10 universities in the country.

(5) Having been a lecturer at Oxford I was required to select candidates during the interview process. This process required the reading and dissection of UCAS forms, and interviewing candidates; I therefore know what universities are looking for. I will be able to use these skills to guide you to the most appropriate university for you and to help you produce the best UCAS form you can (when the time comes).

(6) Studying and teaching at one of the most reputable universities in the world (Oxford) has shown me what is required to succeed and be the best. This is a skill and attitude that I pass on to many of my students.

(7) As a medic my background has been checked, and cleared, by the Criminal Records Bureau.

As you can see I offer experiences, skills and teaching methods which many tutors don't even come close to offering. My education has led me always to look at the relationships between areas of study, for instance, the ocean has currents and the atmosphere has currents, but how do these affect one another? or how does volcanism affect climate change? I am an electrical engineering consultant with a degree in electronics and electrical engineering from The University of Edinburgh. I have previously worked as an electronics design engineer for satellite communications systems and as a college tutor in Wallace College, Edinburgh.

Teaching Experience:
I have tutored many students during the past five years, both privately and in classes at Wallace College. I have also worked as an instructor at Acrobounce Scotland, which is a high energy outdoor activity for children and I develop good relationships with the students who I teach.

Tutoring Approach:
Once I have established the strengths and weaknesses of the student, I tailor the content of the tutorials to suit the needs of that student. In maths and physics it is important for the student to have a clear understanding of the basic ideas and principles of the subjects, this is where we will start. Once the basic concepts are understood, the tutorials will have a bias toward exam technique and preparing for the final exam. This has proven to be a very effective method of boosting grades in my own exams and in those of my previous students. I have many years experience sitting examinations myself and have lots of advice in how to prepare for and perform well on the big day.

I am a very experienced and well qualified teacher in my mid fifties, originally from East London, UK. I have recently relocated to Swansea from the West Midlands to move into my house in Brynmill. As I obtained my first degree at Swansea University I know the area quite well. I am a very patient and well organised teacher.

I have been teaching for over 35 years, mainly ESOL at universities, FE colleges and language schools both in the UK and abroad (Spain, Oman, UAE). In my teaching career I have taught students of all ages from teenager to adult. I began my career as a teacher of history in a secondary school.

I am used to dealing with all kinds of students, such as teenagers preparing for GCSE or GCE examinations, pre-university students or foreign workers in the UK wishing to improve their English, business men wishing to improve their business English skills or students wishing to learn Spanish because they wish to move to Spain or who need to learn Spanish because a member of their family has just married a Spanish speaker! I like to make learning as much fun as possible by using a wide range o materials and methods. Naturally, I have acquired a considerable amount of materials over the years I have been teaching. About Ross:
I am a part time tutor in the South West London area, available for evening and weekend appointments. I teach French to A level, I studied French at Lincoln University and the Universit de Savoie and lived in France for a total of two years. I also studied German at Sheffield Hallam University and Giessen Universitaet, and teach German to GCSE and sometimes AS level.

Teaching Experience:
I hold a PGCE in post compulsory education from the University of Greenwich and a TESOL teaching certificate from St Giles college. I have also lectured in tourism at Westminster Kingsway College.

Tutoring Approach:
I am very much an advocate of the diagnostic approach to learning and will adapt my teaching to suit the student. Some students may find that the 'total immersion' approach to language learning helps, even in the early stages. Lessons will be equally between conversation, grammar, listening and reading practice. Homework can be set depending on the time constraints of the tutee.
