About Rosemary:
I am currently studying for a PhD in Geophysics at University College London (UCL). I graduated in 2006 with 1st class honours in Astronomy MSci. from UCL. I have also worked at the European Space Agency. I have always had an interest in teaching and greatly enjoy tutoring and helping students to genuinely understand the subject through classes which are interesting and stimulating with solid examples and explanations.

***Please note I am especially interested in tutoring jobs near Turnpike Lane, Bethnal Green and Euston stations***

Teaching Experience:

I have several years of experience tutoring Sciences and Maths at GCSE and A-level, and helping primary school children with reading and have greatly enjoyed it. Students I have tutored previously have been very successful in their exams, for example one student improved his AS-level Physics grade from an E to a C and another achieved over 90% in his Maths (Mechanics) AS-level. I have tutored students at GCSE and A-level but would be happy to teach younger students if required.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a friendly, enthusiastic tutor with a genuine interest in the subjects I tutor. I aim to generate enthusiasm in the student by tailoring the material covered and teaching style to their needs. I am happy to teach either students struggling to understand the basics, or students who wish to achieve very high grades in exams for example for entrance to college or university. I teach students at university, A-level, GSCE or younger. I use examples, including emergent scientific discoveries and interesting facts, to make the material more relevant to the student.

About flavia:
My name is Flavia Day, I currently hold an LLB in law, Ba in English and a diploma in criminology. as well as being on the completion to a PhD in philosophical studies.
I have been awarded 123% in terms of I.Q testing and rank in the top 6%.
I am fluent in Italian and have written articles of various magazines.
I take education very seriously and believe each student to be unique, in need of lessons tailored to their own individual requirement, something not possible in a school class environment.
The term " I can`t" does not apply to any of my students.
I believe each of them capable of brilliancy when things are thaught according to their learning technique. These beliefs have been embedded in me from infancy, my father being a professor of classics in Oxbridge ad former examine rfor teh same establishement inclusive of Trinity college Dublin and La Sapienza.

Teaching Experience:

Since 2005, i have the sole charge of 5 children educated in a home schooled environment.
The areas I undertook to teach them, cover, English, Italian, law, criminology and mathematics.
Each of them in 2008 achieved entrance to different institutions, ranging from Eton, Trinity College Dublin, Yale and Our lady Ascot.
Furthermore, I teach 4 students on a home tutoring basis, including learning difficulties students.
I have helped on a voluntary basis in Kingsbury High School in 2003 to 2005 as a class assistant, flanking teachers in English studies and mathematics.
In terms of entrance exams into both the public and state fields I believe myself to have one further advantage above other tutors, mainly comprising in the close relations I have with senior academics who prescribe exams and mark them, this has enabled me to replicate sets of practice exam papers corresponding closely to the actual papers and marked with the same level of expectation the children will encounter when they sit the exams.

Tutoring Approach:

Each and every student, I believe is unique. In a class environment, it is virtually impossible weather this be public or state school setting, to pay individual, specially tailored attention to one student alone. This is what i make my objective with each student who crosses my path.
I take the time to see what works for that student, to tap into their unique learning pattern and use this to teach them the tools to bring about excellency in every academic path they decide to walk.
Parents and the student are never kept in the dark, there is constant collaboration , feedback as to progress and development and these are carried out with regular short intervals.

About Kate:
I am a qualified Clinical Psychologist and have a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I used to work in a Community Mental Health Team before beginning in Education last September. I have an in-depth and broad knowledge of Psychology as a subject. I work as a teacher in a Further Education College, teaching AS/A2 Psychology.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently teaching AS and A2 Psychology at a Further Education College. I have nearly completed my first year of teaching and 100% of my students passed their Winter 2008 AS/A2 exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very approachable and sociable teacher and like to make my classes as interesting and creative as possible. I like a class/session to feel relaxed and I want my students to feel comfortable enough to ask questions and to tell me if they don't understand something.

I believe that learning is most effective when a student is fully involved in a lesson, not simply taking notes from a Powerpoint presentation. That might be in making posters, designing experiments, creating cartoons on computers, using modelling clay to illustrate studies and designing quizzes.

There is, of course, a time for serious study and practicing essay/exam skills too, but I aim to make the classes as engaging as possible. I want my students to enjoy the learning process and to be motivated to do well.

About Nat:
I am not only a successful person, but I have many skills and interests. I hold a BA (Hons), HND, A Levels (A- D grades), GCSE's (B- D Grades) and various other qualifications. I am a self taught photographer and swimmer. I love music and can play various instruments at different levels. I am an artist as well as a photographer, I include painting, model making, candle making, picture framing, scrapbooking, beadwork and silversmith crafts as part of my craft enjoyment. I also sell some of my various photography work. I am a motorsports and car fan. I have been a Scuderia Ferrari F1 team fan for almost 15 years. I have tattoos, pircings and crazy hair, I know when to look smart and presentable for my job, but I also enjoy showing people you can have a brain, be responcible but also enjoy your life. I enjoy spending time with my family and pets. I keep furry and tropical pets.

Teaching Experience:

Being a self taught swimmer, my first teaching experiences came at 16 as a swimming coach in the local school I was a sixth form student at. I have also been a private swimming coach and tutor. My first lifeguard rescue was at the age of 11 years old, coming to the aid of a fellow class mate who couldn't swim. I have also been a PE coach at my prevoous school (pupils 11- 18 years of age), duties included coaching of basic/ aqua/ step areobics, football, basketball, netball, rugby, javelin throwing, running, first aid, cross country, badminton and gymnastics. I was also a regular demonstrator and supervisor in the weights gym. I am also a previously qualified lifeguard. Tutoring Approach:

I am not only a successful person, but I have many skills and interests. I'm certainly not a swot, I teach people how to enjoy their life as well as have plenty of study/ learning time. I worked very hard, if not a little too hard, lost a few friends and didn't have much of a social life until I was 17. I realised this was wrong and too much work/ studying actually helps you to FORGET much of what you have learnt! I teach people timetable management, self motivation, enjoyment, relaxation as well as personal skills and the subject of choice!

About Peter:
I'm a university postgraduate composer and performer and have returned to Ipswich having completed a BA and MA at the University of Leeds.

I tutor violin (beginner - grade 5) and guitar (beginner +) performance as well as music theory and composition (any level).

I have a wide range of musical experience and understand the technical requirements of most orchestral instruments having specialised in contemporary (avant-garde) composition.

Aside from my academic qualifications I am a grade 8 violinist and completed my grade 5 theory (with distinction).

I also play Guitar, Bass and Sitar and dabble in music recording and production and am a songwriter in my free time. Thus I can offer insight into most major musical branches.

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my undergraduate and postgraduate courses I taught students privately focusing on music theory, violin and guitar tuition.

I currently run a guitar club at an Ipswich High School teaching entry level guitar to students aged 12-16.

Prior to my degree courses I taught guitar and violin privately on a smaller scale to gather teaching experience teaching students aged between 10 - 52.

I have also supported younger students on University Music courses in composition techniques and theory and can additionally provide contemporary aesthetic grounding and reasoning behind composition styles. My CRB check was initialised by this institution.

Tutoring Approach:

Every student has their own requirements and personal goals. I aim to help them achieve those goals utilizing the wide array of musical experience I have assimilated over the last thirteen years as a musician, student and composer.

I emphasise the importance of performance technique, the right attitude for private practice and can teach music theory at any level ranging from basics to post graduate techniques including the obligatory grade 5 theory every associated board performer eventually faces!

About Adeline:
I am a fully qualified intrumental teacher living in Manchester. I am passionate about music and teaching and am very committed to each individual that I spend time with. I'm a very enthusiastic person and want to encourage and inspire new learners, those already learning and also those that want to revisit an old instrument.

Teaching Experience:

I have been playing the violin since the age of 6 where I began privately tutored. I have since enjoyed a rich musical life; playing in a number of orchestras, small groups and bands. I also studied at the Royal Northern College of Music where I gained a BMus(hons) as well as a PGCE teaching qualification with disctinction. I have taught a range of abilities and instruments, individuals and groups. I am able to teach violin, viola, cello, flute and piano and well as theory. I have enjoyed teaching in primary and secondary schools as well as private instrumental tuition.

About Callum:
I am Scottish, recently moved to England, aged 24 and male. I am casual and informal, but I do things properly. I am mainly into rock and heavy metal music, from artists/bands such as Metallica, Yngwie Malmsteen, Nightwish, Dream Evil and plenty more however I do like a mixture of a music from pop to classical. Some music in the background can be good to relax us.

My particular skills and interests are Object Orientated Programming with languages such as C/C++ and Java. I can also help with related topics such as creating documents and reports (design, requirements, etc).

Teaching Experience:

I tutored at University. Whilst in 3rd year I helped a 2nd year direct entrance student to learn C++. He got over 70% in his final exam. Obviously this took effort on both parts, but I think my approach of learning the basics and building up definitely helped.

I am also a Software Engineer, so although this isn't teaching experience it is very real and the code I write is/will be in everyday use.

Tutoring Approach:

I am relaxed and prefer an informal approach. That's not to say I will waste time, but it means you can learn new skills and concepts whilst possibly enjoying yourself rather than feeling like you need to have your head down typing 100%!

With any student I will first workout the level the student is at before continuing - I see little point in discussing more advanced topics before the basics are well understood.

I think the best methods to learn are by example and by practise. I will answer questions as best I can, if I don't know the answer I will find out and explain it. If a student has problems with an exercise/coursework then we will start from the beginning to ensure each step is understood.

It should be worth noting that as I am a Software Engineer in "real life" you will also benefit from a real and commercial approach. This is of particular relevance to University students who may shortly find themselves in a proper job.

About Lauren:

Teaching Experience:

English as a Foreign Language experience:
Currently completing teaching practice for Winsdsor Schools TEFL course

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that a combination of listening and individualized response/approach is what makes my tutoring very effective. I feel that students need a warm and supportive environment in their tutoring sessions, especially because it can be very frusterating when you have to spend extra time on a difficult subject. However, tutoring doesn't have to be tedious, it can be efficient and even fun!

About Laura:
Hi, my name is Laura and I graduated from Bath Uni last year with a degree in Maths and Computing. I am a keen tutor and hope I can help most students regardless of age or abilility.

Teaching Experience:

In my free time at Universty I tutored students privately for SAT, GCSE and A-Level exams, in Maths as well as other subjects including Science and Technology, and and all were a success. I have also been teaching badminton to students back at my old school.

As it hasn't been too long since I did my own A Level and GCSE exams, I can remember how stressful it can be as well as the best exam techniques and ways of remembering things. I have a very flexible approach to tutoring and will try to tailor the goals and teaching style to suit the student as much as possible. I try to build up the pupils confidence, especially in maths, and to make it more interesting so that it will stick in their minds. The most important thing is that they feel they are making progress and are comfortable enough to ask whatever questions they need to.

About Andrew:
I am an experienced maths tutor of over 10 years. I work as a Research Scientist in the daytime these days, although I have lectured at University in the past. I am a registered marker for KS3 Maths.

Teaching Experience:

University Lecturer
Private tutor for more than 10 years

Tutoring Approach:

The key to teaching Maths is building confidence through plenty of worked examples in the student's weaker areas. Through careful teaching a student's confidence can soon be improved when they see that they can do the work they previously thought difficult. I provide detailed notes and homeworks for every lesson. I will also go through exam technique, revision schedules and past papers.

About Ainita:
I have worked in the Finance environment for over 20 years and I am still working as Assistant Accountant.
I have relevant qualifications in Accounting.
My interests have always been in Maths and Accounting since schooldays. I have not pursued professional qualifications due to commitment to my children's education, but have always worked and keeping updated via work experiences.

Teaching Experience:

As a mother of 4, now the eldest at Uni, second in 6th form aiming to go to Uni to study Maths, third and fourth in secondary school, I have always made sure my children had necessary tutoring for their schooling and education.
Whilst working part-time, after work I would sit with my four children through their homework and made sure I was kept up to date with the current curriculum.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to use diagrams and pictures and stories with younger children so understanding can be easier through logic.
For older children colours and diagrams and relating scenarios with reality for better understanding.
For both ages groups I give 'homework' to practice with minimum help from parents to identify weaknesses in children.

About Paulina:
My name is Paulina and I come from Poland. I'm a student at the University of Manchester, studying Japanese. I have BA degree in English Studies and I enjoy teaching.
I am a warm and friendly person and enjoy making my lessons fun and interesting. I like to get to know my students and want to make sure I can relate to them by using relevant resources and materials. I am passionate about the subjects I teach and have spent a lot of time creating lessons that can help each student to progress.
I am always open to suggestions on how to make my lessons better and want to help each person achieve their goals.

Teaching Experience:

During my studies in Poland I worked as a privet tutor and also as a voluntary teacher in a few primary schools and high schools. For a past year I enjoyed teaching English to Japanese students who came to Manchester as the university exchange students. I used to prepare people to the British Council examinations (FCE; CPE; CAE).

Tutoring Approach:

First of all, I enjoy teaching and I believe there is not a chance someone is not able to learn a foreign language. As a teacher, one has to be creative and try to learn as much as possible about their student to be able to teach effectively. All languages have their own logic, you just need to show people how this logic works and encourage them to follow it. Then, they will not fail.

About Sam:
I am currently reading Physics at the University of Nottingham, and have just completed my second year. I received straight A grades at A-level in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics and am more than proficient in all of the above areas. I am a friendly and easy-going but i also understand the importance of hard work and commitment to obtain good grades.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored AS-level Chemistry and A-level Maths during the holidays of my university. I have also spent 6 months working in a school in Australia teaching and helping in prep in the boarding school (for all sciences, maths and also other areas). I also spent some of my A-level year working as a teachers assistant in a school in Camden with young children.

Tutoring Approach:

For science and maths tutoring there can be no substitute for teaching the basics and building upon them. Once the concepts have been taught there must be an extensive practice of questions which will solidify those concepts in the mind. Only by answering questions can a student really know if they understand the subject material.
