About Violaine:
I'm a french woman, with extensive pedagogical skills to teach. I was used to work as urban planner in France, but my studies and experience drived me to assume teaching and making formations for adults. I have a very good knowledge of both french and spanish literature and civilisation.

Teaching Experience:

I was teaching to young children french language as a volunteer in France. I'm used to adapt my self to the request of the tutee.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm very flexible and i can adapt myself to anybody. But I insist on the grammar aspect of french and spanish languages, which are very important to manage to speak quite well. I prefer first study with authors texts about actuality or quotidian life or extracts of literature before discussing it with the student providing the exchange to see grammar points and vocabulary.

About Greta:
My name is Greta Jameson and I am 21 Years old. I was born and brought up in Germany and moved back to England in my early teens. I was subsequently educated in England at a European School with German as my first language. I still frequently visit Munich which is where I was born and have a strong bond with Germany.

Teaching Experience:

I have very little Teaching experience as I have only ever taught German to very young children.
However I have been taught German in several different ways myself through University and the Goethe Institute and have witnessed my own family and friends attempting to learn German in a variety of ways. Having observed such a wide variety of teaching methods I have established my own very strong opinions about Teaching Languages to People.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe it is important to first of all establish what methods are right for a specific person. i do not believe that one way works for everyone. i also believe it is important to establish what skills the said person wants to improve on as some people want to progress academically and other want to gain better understanding and communication skills in the language. All in all i have a very flexible approach to teaching and think that a balance needs to be found between pupil and tutor which suits both parties.

About Denisse:
I come from Chile. I have worked as a language trainer and translator in Chile. My work experience includes the British Institue and the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean. I have a BA in English Language and Literature that involves a comparative study of English and Spanish in subjects like grammar, semantics, pragmatics, socio and psycholinguistics, applied linguistics, morphosyntax, discourse analysis, phonology and phonetics, language history, literature and translation. I have deep knowledge of the Spanish phonological system and the difficulties experienced by foreign students. I had also seminars and work experience on translation. My Thesis and thesis oral defence was in English on the acquisition of a second language: "Comprehensible input/comprehensible output: a debate in applied linguistics"

Teaching Experience:

I have been a language trainer for different institutes in Chile, for adults and teenagers. I taught beginners (false and real beginners) and advanced learners. I worked in different levels: Elementary, Pre-intermediate, Intermediate and Upper Intermediate. Classes were carried out for individuals, in-office lessons and groups.

Tutoring Approach:

Since I have myself experience the acquisition of a second language, I understand the different problems learners may have, not only the linguistics barriers, but also those related to self-confidence. I first of all try to establish a relaxed atmosphere to develop as much communication as possible. My previous studies allow me to give solid grounds to the acquition of the grammatical and phonological Spanish system.

About Christy:
Christy Thrower is an experienced, versatile and charismatic teacher and performer.

In 1999 she graduated with a BMus from the University of Auckland, and in 2000 gained a PGradDipTchg(Music) from Auckland College of Education.

She has taught the flute and other instruments for thirteen years in a variety of settings, to students aged 2 - 82, and also sings professionally.

In 2001, she was awarded the Dorothy Wiseman Cup for Most Promising Vocal Performance in the South Auckland Performing Arts Competitions, as well as 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

In 2003 and 2004 she was co-producer of "Variety Show with a Difference", which included some of her students playing their own compositions, and was partially funded by Creative New Zealand.

She has been living in London since May 2007.

Teaching Experience:

In 2001 she was employed at Hibiscus Coast Intermediate School as class music teacher and choir and band director.

Her private students consistently do well in Associated Board and Trinity/Guildhall examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

As well as offering flute, singing, theory, recorder, keyboard and beginner piano lessons, Christy can tutor you in any of the following areas:

- additional help (eg. outside of school-time instrumental lessons) for practical OR theory examinations, with Trinity/Guildhall or Royal Schools of Music

The success of her teaching business in Auckland was largely due to word of mouth, as clients were impressed with her encouraging, yet firm and motivating manner, and her effective communication with children and adults alike.

She is especially experienced in helping students with breathing, tone, embouchure and postural issues, and difficulties with fluency in music reading.

About Elena:
I am originally from Germany and hold an university degree for teaching. Later, I also studied Business Management at the Dresden University (Maths, Marketing and Finance Management)

Teaching Experience:

I have always been working with children and adults.

In 1993 I took part in the restoration of an old watermill in Dresden and co-founded there a cultural centre. Although the centre was event orientated we also run various courses for children and adults.
In 2003 I moved to Bournemouth and worked as a School Bursar until last year.

I now work from home and tutor private pupils.

Tutoring Approach:

Maths:
Maths is NOT boring, maths is fun and exciting. Don't believe me? Give it a try... I am sure you will learn to love maths as I do.
I finished a special grammar school for gifted children in maths and won as pupil a few maths competitions. I succeded to get a job as a School Bursar in Bournemouth, in 2003, not speaking English fluently, because of maths... Maths opens the entire world for you...

IT:
A computer is nothing else than an extremely advanced typewriter with loads of ecxiting functions.
If you need to increase your confidence in using a computer or wish to learn some advanced features, I can help you to get more out of Windows applications, e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and I can also help you to find your way round the Internet.

Languages:
I believe the best way to learn a language is when the tutor communicates with you in the language you wish to learn. It may not always be easy but it helps one to grasp the language and pick it up much quicker. Also beneficial to learn a language are lots of games and various actvities, never boring, but always in in the language you wish to learn...
In one-to-one sessions, I like to work in a relaxed environment, helping students to focus on individual needs and building self-confidence.

First session is FREE as a trial and after this you can always drop out if you believe it's not beneficial for you or for any other reason. However I am sure that you will stay and enjoy... The fee is not set in stone and I am open to negotiation especially when you wish to have a long term agreement.

About Harry:
I'm a (relatively) recent Cambridge graduate, moving to Bristol from London to find a less stressful life, and lower rent. I'm interested in music and outdoor pursuits, and education. I'm working at the moment, and considering a PGCE at some point in the future.

Teaching Experience:

After some voluntary work in India over the winter, I have been working in an English college in London, teaching English as a foreign language. I also have other informal tutoring experience, helping friends and younger students get to grips with various subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor you are generally supplementing another teacher's work, so it important to get up to speed on what that teacher is doing. Overall I would say my approach is fairly informal, based on identifying problem areas and going carefully through the basic ideas necessary to understand a particular teaching point. As such a tutor primarily provides support to the learner to help them follow their main course, and can give further work as necessary to clarify or expand on anything relevant.

About yasamin:
In my second year at the university of sussex. I am studying for a degree in maths where I am already down to do my masters in maths at this university.

Teaching Experience:

While I was studying for my A Levels I also tutored groups of children preparing for their SAT exams and also Higher Tier GCSE exams. In addition to this I was also involved in a pilot scheme where I would tutor online to school that had paid for the service across the country to GCSE maths students.

Tutoring Approach:

I think tutoring is very beneficial as it is always that people learn things in different ways and with someone able to understand how you learn this one on one kind of tutoring is a faster more efficient method of learning, or revising what has already been taught, but with more understanding.

About Alice:
Hi,
I am a recent graduate from UCL with a BA in French and French Literature. I am also qualified to tutor (and am passionate about!) History (to GCSE), English and Art (to A-level). I have several years experience working as either a personal tutor or class assistant, including some time spent working with children with mental disabilities. I am fluent in French and have some formal music training.

Teaching Experience:

I began tutoring full-time by giving after school support to children of 4-12 years old, helping them with their homework, handwriting, reading practice and music practice. I've also volunteered as a class assistant for many years, working with kids from kindergarten to year 7 level. As a prefect in year 12, I was required to regularly cover after school activities for the younger years (in this case, ages 13-17), again providing support for their studies, an experience which has taught me to be flexible and ready for questions!

Tutoring Approach:

I've always enjoyed helping children learn regardless of their level or approach. My different experiences combined have given me the confidence to deal with needs of the individual and the demands of the subject matter. I try always to foster a positive attitude to a subject, to encourage the tutee to find their strengths, but also to do their best and take pride in their work, whatever it may be. I believe that a good tutor provides the tutee with the extra confidence and the tools they need to reach their goals.

About Natalie:
I am an enthusiastic and self motivated individual with a strong desire to become a teacher. I completed a degree in Sociology at Strathclyde in 2006, From 2002-2005 I also studied English at Strathclyde, deciding not to take it through to joint honours level as I wanted to concentrate on my Sociology dissertation. I am currently in the process of applying to study PGDE Secondary Education at Jordanhill in Autumn of this year- This would be working towards becoming a qualified English teacher. My main areas of interest have always been in drama particularly Shakespeare. I have studied novels such as Jekyl and Hyde, Dr Faustus as well as classics such as Sense and Sensibility whilst at at university.

Teaching Experience:

As of yet I have had no formal teaching experience. However, whilst at Secondary school I was part of a program which provided one on one tutoring for children with reading difficulties. Helping them overcome some of the problems they felt they could not overcome in front of other pupils in the classroom. I have helped my younger brother study for both his Standard Grade and Higher English, both times gaining good results. I also helped friends at University with course work and exam prep. I have a strong desire to teach.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is very much tailored to the individual. A lot of my Sociology research was on education and the individual and from my studies it is conclusive that everyone learns at a different rate and in a different way. Therefore i believe it essential to tailor make lessons to suit the individual as this ensures they get the most out of the lesson. This to me is the most important thing. I like to get the student thinking about what they are studying and engaging as much as they can with the text. In the past I have often asked the person to relate a situation in a novel to themselves in order for them to better understand areas such as characterisation and subject matter.
