About Riccardo:
I graduated in 1997 with a degree in astrophysics, from Edinburgh University. I then did a post-grad in IT at Napier University and worked in London for 5 years as a software engineer. I came back to Edinburgh in 2003, and decided for a change of life, and I've done a few different jobs since then, none of them academic!
However I'm now applying to be a teacher, and would like to start of as a tutor.

Teaching Experience:

No teaching experience to date

Tutoring Approach:

I'm friendly and enthusiastic, and I will strive to teach my tutees the concepts of what they are learning, as all to often people just try to learn rules and methods, without really understanding what they're doing.

About Cassandra:
I have excellent grades from the exams I have undertaken, namely Cambridge O Levels and A Levels. I achieved 7 A's in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and Accounting and 4 A's in Chemistry, Biology, Physics and General Paper in O levels and A levels respectively. I will ensure to provide your child with a great learning experience as I myself have been through the same exams and questions not too long ago.

About Denise:
I am an owner of three Basset Hounds and six Alpacas. I live on a small island in Gloucestershire surrounded by the River Severn and Canal system. I have recently March 2008 left the LEA to enable me to provide children with tutoring. I basically live education, I am extremely conscientious and I put a tremendous amount of effort into my work. I work hard to ensure that my pupils receive the best education possible. I would like to work online or from home as I enjoy my life at home with my animals.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked in Further & Higher Education and Primary Education (7-11) I have been teaching since 1988 and have a considerable amount of experience. especially pupils with Special Educational Needs as I was the coordinator of this particular area for Gloucester. I have in the past taken pupils from the special education needs register and improved their attainment levels to a point that many are now in University or Collage.

Tutoring Approach:

I would initially assess my pupil and then produce a selection of targets for them to achieve. This would ensure that I was teaching the pupil at the correct attainment level and would ensure that I was enabling them to develop and reach their next attainment level. Know matter what their present attainment level is when I commence teaching the pupil, I would ensure that my pupil would at least reach the level at a minimum. I would also assess the pupil to find out how they learn and what would be the best way to teach them. I am a great believer that any pupil can reach a level of attainment that they wish to achieve and one to one help is always beneficial.

About Chris:
I have recently graduated with a First Class Hons BA degree in History. I specialise in Early Modern Europe, 20th Century War and Conflict, and Social and Religious Movements throughout the Ages. Although I do not limit myself to one school of thought I enjoy researching using a mixture of Modernist, Marxist, and Psychoanalytic Methods.
I am a full time MA student studying social and cultural history, whilst working full time and am also a devoted husband and father of two young girls.

Teaching Experience:

I have yet to take on any students, but am ready and willing to start my tutoring. I think you will find my rates to be far below the going rate, and I am prepared to match any legitimate quote.
I have achieved a First Class Hons BA, so rest assured I am quite knowledgeable in this field, and hold fantastic references from some of the very best in this field of study.

Tutoring Approach:

I encourage discussion and analysis of primary sources. I will be fair and age appropriate with my expectations, however the only true way to succeed is hard work, and I am willing to get stuck in with my pupils.

About Benjamin:
Hi, my name is Ben. I am 25 year old postgraduate student currently pursuing a PhD in Earth Sciences at Oxford University. With my academic background I am well trained in Maths and the physical sciences. I Love to teach and help students develop an understanding and passion for math and the sciences. I would describe myself as a very enthusiastic teacher who is highly motivated to help students dramatically improve their level of ability for their subject of difficulty. I am also happy to tutor students to an advanced level of study if necessary.

Teaching Experience:

One years tutoring experience, mostly in Maths but also in Physics, Chemistry and English. I typically tutor students between ages of 11 and 18 for one to two hours per week in their chosen subject. References available on request.

Tutoring Approach:

To begin with, my first priority is to understand the level of ability each student has in their subject and what the main areas of study are in which they need to improve. This normally involves a review of some of the main principles of the relevant topic for the first few sessions and listening to any questions the student may have from what they have learnt to date in class. Once I have an idea of the main issues that need to be addressed I can begin to work on breaking down problems into concepts the student can better understand. In addition to helping my students better understand difficult topics I aim to improve their confidence in learning and increase their enthusiam for the subject of interest.

About Ena:
I am a native Spanish teacher, I have been living in Bristol for the past six years and I enjoy teaching Spanish in my spare time.
I usually work in an office full time 9 to 5, but I am on maternity leave at the moment until February 2008 and I am looking for evening and weekend teaching work.
I am reliable, hard working and punctuality is very important to me.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching privately for more than fifteen years to both English and Spanish learners in Spain, Austria and Bristol.
I have experience with school level language, university students and adult education.

Tutoring Approach:

I take time to prepare the lesson very meticulously, as I believe that saves time and gives a professional and more confident image of the teacher.
I try to divide the lesson into parts, introduction - brief chat about journey to work, weekend activities, or any light personal detail, then the main part of the lesson - grammar, conversation, explanation,... followed by exercises and finish lesson with perhaps a game, role play or a lighter activity.
Communication is vital and I do not move on to the next level or lesson until everyone is comfortable with what has been learnt.

About Enoch:
I live in Colchester with my wife and I'm in full time employment. At present I work for a national charity that supports churches who are actively engaged in communities. Having been a school teacher before I carry out private tutoring as I enjoy teaching young people.

My educational background is in Engineering and hold a Bachelors degree from King's College London and a PhD from University of Essex.

Teaching Experience:

Private Tutor- Mathematics and Physics
Maths Teacher and Head of Computer Studies - Joy to the World High School, Lesotho
Trainee Mathematics teacher - Colne Community School, Brightlingsea
Undergraduate tutor - Electronic systems, University of Essex, ESE Department

Tutoring Approach:

I believe all children should find Mathematics and Science interesting, challenging and fun. I work towards pushing young people to reach their full potential and not be content with just passing exams. For example, if a student is hoping to get 'C' at GCSE Maths, I will work with the child to achieve at least a 'B'. Students happy with 'A' would be expected to aim for 'A*'!

I find teaching subjects and relating it to real live through practical examples important to stimulate a child's interest to the subject. I'm a firm believer of home work and expect my students to complete all home work that is set.

About Marie:
I enjoy reading, travelling and listening to music.

Teaching Experience:

I have nine years teaching experience both in the UK and the USA. I have been tutoring on a one to one basic for six years. I am currently teaching GCSE and A' level English in a Further Education College.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to one to one tutoring is to ascertain the learners weaknesses and strengths. By so doing I am able to meet the learners need by focusing on improving the learners weakness. In addition I use the learners strengths as a means of motivation and encouragement. for example, if the learner is a competent reader but unable to spell of write fluently, I encourage the learner by showing them how well they are able to read and then use this to encourage improving spelling or writing skills. I also encourage learners to be independent and use their own initiative in discovering learning opportunities.

About Simon:
A committed tutor and examiner, I am motivated by a desire to improve students' basic grasp of English and to introduce great literature (and/or linguistics studies) to as many people as possible.
My main interests include literature, music, film and the arts; I also enjoy cycling and camping.
I am thirty years old, and attempt to retain the fitness levels of my youth by cycling to lessons - whatever the weather.

Teaching Experience:

In addition to teaching undergraduate seminars, I have worked as a private English tutor for five years (full-time for the past three). Predominantly coaching GCSE and 'A' Level (Language, Literature, and Language and Literature courses spanning the various boards/specifications), my broad experience allows me to successfully assist students across the ability range.
Moreover, I have been a GCSE English examiner for the past four years - assessing a paper that comprises writing and literary-analysis skills. This work has provided invaluable insight into examination performance and technique, and allows me to coach students to achieve the optimum results.

Tutoring Approach:

Regardless of the course or ability level, my initial approach is to address the student's grasp of basic English skills; despite their importance in assessed work, competent spelling, punctuation and grammar is an increasing rarity and tends not be tackled in schools and colleges. Though an on-going process, the attainment of these skills provides the foundations for success in examinations and other assessed work. Having tutored many students of disparate ages and levels, I am comfortable to devise a programme of study or to liaise with students (and/or parents) in order to provide optimal support for the unique requirements of each individual. I supply worksheets and past papers (in addition to mock papers that I have written), and, resulting from my experience as an examiner, generally prioritise exam practice and skills. I am comfortable to set, and mark, homework as required. Most importantly, particularly with younger children, I attempt to make the subject as enjoyable as possible by incorporating the student's own interest and hobbies into the sessions; English should never be dull!
In most cases, one-hour, weekly sessions are recommended
