Teaching Experience: Primary School position: German teacher (Poland) september 2004-august 2006 Private Language Centre september 2004-june 2005 FISCHER (Poland) |
Tutoring Approach: I have experience in teaching in Primary School. I do really know how much effortful the work with children is. I found the work with children the most challenging experience in my career paths. However, the children gave me indeed the most fun from teaching. You know... satisfaction of critical "customer" gives always more fun! I had the adults classes as well. I used to teach them with a special method. That for I had to go through a course preparing me for teaching with this method. This was method which is based on gesticulation and facial expression a lot. The large advantage of this method was using only the goal language. So the group people had always to answer in German. And it is not so hard! Because you are starting from the very easy things! |

View Melissa's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About Melissa: I am a young person about to commence an Undergraduate degree in Mathematics at the University of Warwick. I am 19 years old and extremely passionate about Mathematics and I firmly believe in the advantages of peer tutoring. During my 2 years of private tutoring I have found that students find it easier to relate to me because of my age. I have a very individual approach to teaching and I have had very positive results. I provide all learner resources and tailor my lessons to the national curriculum. Students receive reports termly, are assessed monthly and set assignments weekly. I believe in engaging my students and encouraging an individual approach to learning where a learner develops responsibility for their own learning. Despite the fact that I am very young I am highly motivated, a good role model and a very high achiever. Personal profile: I am a student whom has just completed my A levels and I am about to start my undergraduate course. I recently achieved grades AAAAa at A level including Mathematics and further Mathematics. I am madly passionate about mathematics and I want to share the enjoyment I find in mathematics with young people of all ages. I was involved in a Hackney-wide scheme tutoring students in GCSE mathematics for local secondary schools. Whilst at college I set up a scheme to assist GCSE students studying mathematics which was very successful and very popular. I have tutored in Mathematics, English and Science at G.C.S.E level for 2 years and also in A level mathematics. I have also taught students at various other levels including Year 9 SATs and at year 5. I specialise in the core and Further Pure modules at A level but can teach other modules as well. I have been described as a 'natural teacher' and my talents lie in reducing seemingly complex topics and explaining them in simple terms. I will use any example to demonstrate a point! I have received certificates in mathematics from my college which demonstrate my ability and I was the highest achieving maths student in my year graduating overall with the highest UCAS tariff. I love children and working with children and I was also a peer mentor and further education ambassador, working with young people and encouraging them to consider further education. I am also quite willing to teach adult learners as I love mathematics and will teach it to any person of any age. I am CRB checked and can provide references from teachers and tutors as well as parents of tutees to support my character. |
Teaching Experience: A year and a half teaching student of varying abilities and at various levels from primary to secondary as well as first year A level. Currently teaching A level (first year) and G.C.S.E level maths, G.C.S.E level English, Year 9 maths in preparation for SATs as well as year 5 maths. |
Tutoring Approach: I have a relaxed but focused approach to teaching and learning. My students find it very easy to relate to us, I am always available to answer a pupil's needs and my students regularly contact me by phone, email or text with their problems. I do not have a set method of tutoring but try to adapt to the individual student's needs. This could include developing visual aids, including e-learning, posters and colour to increase interest as well as audio aids. I charge 15/hour for students wishing to be taught for a minimum of 1.5 hours. I charge 20/hour for students only wishing to be taught for an hour. I charge 25/hour for 2 students and 30/hour for 3 students wishing to be taught for more than an hour. this price may increase for students only wishing to be taught for an hour. The prices are ordinarily inclusive of travel costs. Larger groups can be negotiated. If you or your son/daughter has friends in the same age range who would also like to receive tuition then I fully accept groups of 2-3 friends from different families receiving the same tuition. The fee is the same group fee of 30 p/h. I will travel to all tutoring locations at times that are convenient for the learners (mostly evenings and weekends). Unless the tutee would prefer to receive lessons from my home. Style/focus and pace of the lessons are fully negotiated with tutees before we commence the lessons. I usually will not accept lesson durations of less than an hour and a half as the extra half hour allows the lesson to be reviewed and targets and homework to be set. I recommend weekly lessons. Contact me now! Call/email or leave a text. There is no contract! Try one lesson, and if it is not what you are looking for then you can stop using my services immediately. |

View Monica's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About Monica: I'm a 22 year old graduate, living in Stevenage. I graduated from Lancaster University in 2007 with a 2.1 BA(Hons) in English Literature, although I got high firsts in some modules, my areas of expertise proving to be women writers (from past to present) and my self-chosen dissertation module of a cognitive poetic analysis of children's picture books. This dissertation module, combined with my later experience at early years teacher training (PGCE) has given me a thorough background of the many ways picture books can be used to supplement teaching, a skill particularly appropriate for the younger tutees! I am also capable of assisting study in higher education also, having fairly recently gone through the newly introduced assessment structure of GCSEs followed by a separate AS level and A level. I have A levels in English Language and Literature (A), Geography (A) and Maths (B) as well as 12 GCSE grades all A* or A (OK, I confess to a B in chemistry! teehee!) in English, Maths, Physics, Biology (I did the three sciences separately as a triple award instead of the standard double award), Statistics, French, Religious Education, Food Technology, Geography, History, Music. I also have experience of working with Special Needs having been a play assistant and then Deputy Play Leader at a respite play-scheme for disabled children over most holidays between 2002 to 2007. I worked with a variety of conditions, for example, autism, Down's Syndrome, fragile X syndrome and unspecified behavioural difficulties. |
Teaching Experience: I began a PGCE in September 2007, but have decided to defer the second two terms for a year, to recuperate from the stress of finishing my degree! I have therefore completed a third of the Early Years PGCE, and gained much valuable information and experience both from the PGCE itself and from the experience it was necessary to have to be considered for the course. This experience includes 2 weeks of observing and helping in year 4 and 5 classrooms, 8 months of helping one morning a week in a local pre-school, and 2 weeks of assisting in an Early Years unit (i.e. Nursery and Reception) at an OFSTED awarded excellence, school. In addition to this I completed 5 weeks of placement in schools on the PGCE itself, and attended the more theoretical college based teaching as well. I also taught English as a Foreign Language in Thailand for a month, to all primary school classes. One of the main lessons I learnt from this was how to create interesting lessons with very limited resources! |
Tutoring Approach: I would begin the tutoring with a session of getting to know the tutee. Not only is the tutor-tutee relationship vital to producing an environment conducive to learning, but I believe it is really important to discover a tutee's ideal learning style, whether they be visual, kinaesthetic, auditory or a combination. This allows both of us to determine ways of studying that will be most enjoyable for the tutee and allow them to take in more information. I also think that prior to beginning studying any particular subject, there are some very useful tools for studying that can be learnt to apply to any area of the curriculum. These include learning how to make memorable mnemonics and how to use them effectively, how to mind map, how to use colour, diagrams and other devices to help with memory functions. Finally, I think one of the most beneficial aspects of personal tutoring is that it is tailored to the individual. In a group situation, a concept may be explained in a way which teh majority of the class could understand but leaving a third or so in the dark, so to speak. Often, all that is needed is to present the idea in a different way for the idea to click! For example, in GCSE maths, I spent several lessons utterly bewildered by a strange circle split into quarters which was meant to help remember the values of sin and cos at certain degree angles. After explaining my difficulty to my father (I'm lucky enough to have two teachers for parents!) he solved the matter in seconds, presenting the information on a graph, and going into how one gets to those values in the first place. This was because he knew (from his many hours dedicated to teaching me maths!) that I always needed to know how to get to a certain equation or theory that was being used, before I could understand how it could be used. Individual tutoring, perhaps most importantly, allows the tutee to go at their own pace. Rather than trying to keep up with a class who are racing ahead, or waste time going over a concept already thoroughly understood, precious time can be tailored to be spent on exactly what areas the tutee needs to work on, meaning an hour of personal tutoring can often produce results equivalent to a day spent in a classroom! |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Ahmad: Hi, I am a Marketing and Supply Chain & Logistics specialist with 5 years of industrial experience. In completing my CIM professional, I realised that the teaching system by CIM study centres were inadequate in order to ensure student success, especially when they cramp syllabus into block courses. As a result, many had to search for independent tutors for extra support. With a passing rate of 50% average on most of the modules, many had also failed. Having experienced this first hand, I aspire to help fellow CIM and other marketing students to make their money's worth in succeeding in the subject I passionately teach. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught CIM students on all levels: Professional Certificate, Professional Diploma and Post Graduate Diploma. I have also tutored BA and MA level university students and help them preparing marketing plans and marketing communication plans for their assignments. But mostly, my tutees are those undertaking marketing courses online and self study. Usually, I will offer a discounted rate for the first session and if the tutees are happy and wish to continue with follow up sessions, normal rate will then apply. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring in my sessions is very flexible and depend entirely on the tutee's requirements. Depending on their needs and level, I may focus on syllabus coverage, exam techniques or coursework assistance. Usually I tend to focus more on exam techniques and coursework assistance as syllabus are typically covered in their classrooms. In exam techniques, my approach will be on providing the answer frameworks, selection of correct strategic models and providing examples of theoretical implementation. At this level, examiners typically expect students to be able to demonstrate the ability to apply theoretical knowledge on real life examples. Thus, my sessions will make sure that students will have the ability to attempt their answers in a strategic and operational context. Mock questions will be provided and exam room strategy will also be discussed in my sessions. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About Nistee: I am a primary school teacher who believes that learning should be stimulating and fun in order for each individual child to reach their full potential. I am fully aware that focused one-to-one attention is not always possible in the classroom and therefore I offer one-to-one tuition in order to develop and extend pupil's prior knowledge of subjects covered in school. |
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching for four years now. I have a degree in Primary Education. I have been providing home tuition for a three years now, from reception to year 6, including SATs and 11+ preparation. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is this: Establish what the child's strengths and weaknesses are first. Focus on their weaker areas first, whilst also following the National Curriculum. Also developing different strategies to subject areas so that each child finds the method of working that works best for them. |
