For example, when I was teaching my students to use the imperative form for instructions, I made a trifle with them, kept it in the fridge overnight, asked them to decorate it the next day and then we shared it with another class.

I have experience teaching German and Italian up to A level standard in comprehensive schools and as a private tutor. I have also used German working in the private sector as a media analyst.

Tutoring Approach:
My current job is 'specialist teacher for children with physical and neurological impairments', a job I love but I am missing my languages! Being able to tutor someone else would therefore also be an enjoyable experience for me. I hope that all my experiences in life and as a teacher have made me a patient and empathetic person who can work with a range of different people from any background and of any age. Tutoring Approach:
Slowing down - most people I have helped need little encouragement to learn once the time is taken to explain all the details that get glazed over in classroom situations. Patience and common sense are the two most important things for potential exam candidates and I try to teach them the methods and foibles of the examination processes to relieve that pre-exam stress (which I regard as the only reason for ANY person not to fulfil their potential in the sciences)

I've taught primary school children before in swindon (two at a time). Teaching experience isn't all that is needed, you also need to have had experience of being taught by lots of different types of teachers, and I've been playing all of my life and so have had this in abundance! I can remember my reactions to different styles of teaching, and I think that's important in order to judge a pupils reactions to the way that you teach. I think you need to adapt to each pupil.

Tutoring Approach:
I don't think teaching music is all about how to play the right notes in the right order. You need to get the feel right too or else you might as well let a computer play it for you. Music is not an intellectual excercise. Also I'm not interested in teaching someone who doesn't want to learn the instrument and only do it out of parental pressure.

As an Volunteering Teacher in Guan College, I successfully taught Physics, Mathematics, and History at equally GCSE level and GCE A level. Also, I had held the position of Head of tutors during the volunteering period. These experiences allowed me to develop and refine my communication, training as well as organization skills.

Tutoring Approach:

About Roman:
I am a full time student at Heriot-Watt University, currently in my second year of an MPhys course. I'm always up for a challenge, and strive to reach goals. I am fairly young, in the sense that I am an undergraduate (but that only means I have a fresher knowledge of the A-level/GSCE syllabi!). I have a reputation of being very clear-minded.

Teaching Experience:
I have no qualifications as such, but have privately taught GCSE Chemistry and Physics on several occasions. And all my tutees came out with A* in those 2 subjects! I am occasionally called upon by my friend to help with A-level chemistry, since alot of it is needed in the Biochemistry sections of his Biology course at University.

Tutoring Approach:
Simplicity! Visualizing a question is very important, so diagrams and pictures always help. The way to tackle any exam is to sit down with the syllabus statement, pick out the difficult sections/things yet to learn, and compose a set of illustrated notes. Meanwhile, look over past papers to get to grips with the way problems are presented and answered. As basic and laborious as they are, flash cards work wonders.

About Sarah:

I tutored French children whilst living in France, and worked for half a year in a French school working with young children.

Tutoring Approach:
I try to make the subject interesting for the student, not intimidating - by using music or conversation for example. I realise that speaking in a foreign language can be embarrassing for students, so I try to make them less self conscious. Although grammar is important, French is a living and evolving subject, something which makes it constantly intersting, and I think its important to reflect this in lessons.
