I have just moved to Glasgow as I have been living in Vancouver - Canada for the past year and a half. I love seeing new places and meeting new people and am outgoing, friendly and passionate about helping people reach their potential.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught as a class teacher in a London Primary school for 2 years. I was teaching Year 4 (8/9 years old) but have experience with other ages. Tutoring Approach:

The reason I want to continue tutoring is that I believe there is no better job! Whatever you have to learn I will help you to understand it by making it interesting and enjoyable. Where I can I use a 'hands on' approach and always use humour to make learning fun. I believe there is always a way to make a concept understandable - my job is to find it!

About Emma:
I have just graduated from Southampton University where I studied German up to 4th year undergraduate level as part of my Music degree. In October 2007 I will start the MRes course in German Studies at Exeter University. Since 1998 I have spent extended periods of time in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, including working as an au pair for a family with small children.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked with two GCSE students providing extra support to augment their lessons in school. I have several years' worth of childcare experience, and I also undertook a tandem language exchange while at university. I have learned several languages through a variety of formats, and so experienced some of the different ways in which languages can be learned.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to adapt to the tutee's individual needs and wishes, working on what s/he feels would be most helpful and involving him/her in planning how and what to learn. I like the flexibility of one-to-one tuition, especially as this enables me to work at the pace of the tutee, concentrating on more difficult areas or simply reducing pressure to build up confidence. Above all, I aim to create a relaxed atmosphere in which the tutee feels happy about trying new things without fear of making mistakes.

About Clare:
I am a friendly sociable and energetic 23 year old TEFL teacher. I grew up in Portsmouth and moved back again after graduating from UCL in London last July. I love reading, history, socialising, laughing, archaeology, my pets, travelling, art, the theatre, music and diving (although not in England, it is far too cold!!) I pretend to be active by going to yoga and ballet classes...but probably not as often as I like to think I do. I also really enjoy my work, particularly working one to one with students, as I feel so much more can be achieved and I welcome the opportunity this affords me to get to know my students.

Teaching Experience:

I have been employed in a number of voluntary and paid teaching roles, encountering a range of class sizes and ages. I gained 100 hours teaching experience with adults whilst qualifying for my EFL certificate, I spent two months teaching primary aged children with a charity in Sri Lanka, and last summer was employed as a tutor to two Italian children for three months in Italy. I am currently teaching at a language school in Portsmouth.

Tutoring Approach:

I am flexible in my approach to teaching and believe it is important to tailor my lessons to the student's individual needs, learning style and interests, working with my student to create a syllabus unique to their requirements. I believe an informal and enjoyable atmosphere is conducive to learning and do not believe it is a necessity to always conduct lessons at a desk, and so am quite happy to take lessons outside so that the students can use and apply their English if they so wish. I am enthusiastic and dedicated to my work which I think helps create a motivated and comfortable learning environment.

About Simon:
I am an intelligent and conscientious young man who has a breadth of educational experience. I live in Horsell, Woking and work in Guildford and hold a full UK driving licence with no endorsements and am willing to travel around Surrey to tutor or receive students in my home. I am recently married and am an trainee solicitor.

Teaching Experience:

While having no formal teaching qualifications I have been actively involved in tutoring my younger siblings for a number of years who have all achieved excellent grades at their SATs and are currently working towards GCSEs.

Tutoring Approach:

With the humanities I like to encourage students to find their voices and think for themselves. I have found that schools with large classes of children with varying degrees of interest and intellect often prefer children to learn mantras and memorise details rather than think logically and methodically and reach their own conclusions.

With Maths and Science I like encourage students to enjoy the subjects and see how they dominate and influence our every day lives. Maths and Science can be taught in a very dry fashion and present little or no interest to children, but it doesn't need to be taught like that. Maths and Science can be fun and provide children with the ability to express themselves and show them the miracles in the world around them.

About Deirdre:
I am a student going into my fifth year of study at Trinity College Dublin. I completed the first half of my degree in Spanish in June 2007, receiving a II.1, and have spent the past year teaching English in France. I will be returning to Dublin in September 2008 to complete my French degree. I love languages and have always had a passion for learning languages and a flair for adapting them into my everyday life. I am also extremely interested in foreign cultures, literature and film. When I complete my degree I hope to continue my studies, concentrating on teaching, and become a foreign language teacher.

Teaching Experience:

I have spent the past school year in France teaching English. As I was working in 2 different schools (the french schooling system distinguishes between college 11-14, and lyce 15-18) I was able to gain the experience of teaching different age groups ranging from 11 years to 18. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and am delighted that my year abroad has confirmed my desire to go into teaching as a career.
While in France I also gave private one-on-one tuition in the evenings.

Tutoring Approach:

Due to the time of year, I am aware of many students needing last minute help before the big summer exams. I am willing to accommodate any student who may be having problems, and I will comprehensively work with them to ensure they can achieve the best grade possible

About Caroline:
My name is Caroline, I'm 22 years old and I'm from Newcastle. I've just graduated in German and French from Cambridge and I'm now in Manchester to do an MA in Translation and Interpreting. I'm really passionate about languages and love helping other people find enthusiasm for them. Outside of academic work I do a lot of music, mainly singing, I love travelling and I read as often as possible.

During my degree I worked as an English Language Assistant for the British Council on my Year Abroad in Germany (2006-7). I also worked at a summer school this summer, organising activities for international students.

Tutoring Approach:

Having really enjoyed teaching on my Year Abroad, I would love to continue helping other people to learn languages. I found that teaching could be both interesting and exciting, and I loved being able to introduce people to the fun side of language learning. I am happy to tutor as reinforcement of the National Curriculum or as an extension of work done in school. I'm friendly and easy-going, and I have a boundless enthusiasm for my subject!

About Giulia:
I am a young professional willing to start a career in teaching. I don't have too much teaching experience (even though I am not completely new to the profession) but I believe I have the positive can-do attitude necessary to start building my career and help my students at best.
I am currently living in North London, but will soon be moving to Chelmsford, Essex, so I''d be glad to start tutoring in this area starting from mid September.

Teaching Experience:

I have some previous experience as private tutor both with children (I taught English and Maths to children aged between 11-14) and adults (private Italian tutor).

Tutoring Approach:

I love learning languages and getting to know and understand different cultures and people. I actually devoted all my studies and efforts on it, thus I feel I can now start passing on my passion and enthusiasm to others. I love working with people (both adults and children) and particularly enjoy meeting people who share my interest for other languages and cultures. Furthermore, I feel that, being a language student myself, I can easily detect and try to solve the most common problems and difficulties encountered when studying a foreign language.

About Marie:
I enjoy reading, travelling and listening to music.

Teaching Experience:

I have nine years teaching experience both in the UK and the USA. I have been tutoring on a one to one basic for six years. I am currently teaching GCSE and A' level English in a Further Education College.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to one to one tutoring is to ascertain the learners weaknesses and strengths. By so doing I am able to meet the learners need by focusing on improving the learners weakness. In addition I use the learners strengths as a means of motivation and encouragement. for example, if the learner is a competent reader but unable to spell of write fluently, I encourage the learner by showing them how well they are able to read and then use this to encourage improving spelling or writing skills. I also encourage learners to be independent and use their own initiative in discovering learning opportunities.
