| About francois: Born in Paris in 1982. Raised in Saintes a town in the South West of France, near La Rochelle. I went to study History at University . Then moved to Bristol, UK where i worked as a french assistant for 5 years at the prestigious Bristol Cathedral School. I am also an artist and musician. I play guitar, piano, and trumpet and do watercolour paintings. I have played and toured in many different professional and unsigned bands. |
Teaching Experience: I worked as a full time french assistant at the Bristol Cathedral School between 2003 and 2007. I focused mostly on improving the pupils conversational skills. I also helped the A-level students in their research and gave them an insight of french culture and traditions. I am experienced to run a group of pupils as well as one to one tuition. I did some extra work in the Library to help the pupils with their homework. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is to put the pupil in confidence. I think the most important point in learning a language is to communicate an idea, no matter how good your french is. I start from what you already know and from there we grow knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and expressions according to your needs. |

View Sharik's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Sharik: Throughout my studies (GCSEs and A-Levels) I have been a straight As student. I have a BSc. Hons. degree in Biomedical Science from Durham University at 2.1 level. This was essentially a combination of Biology and Chemistry, which provides detailed information behind human biology/medicine. |
Teaching Experience: From 2007-2008, I worked in probation, teaching ex-offenders Maths and English up to Level 2 (GCSE level). This year, I have been working in a College in London teaching a variety of different subjects. I have been teaching Maths and English up to Level 2. I have also taught IT up to A-Level, including some basic adult evening classes and have experience in Microsoft Office applications. The majority of my classes were GCSE and A-Level Biology and Chemistry classes. As students found my lessons useful, I also provided GCSE and A-Level Biology and Chemistry revision classes during the holidays. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that all students have potential, but it is up to their tutor to help them reach that potential. I prepare before every class to ensure I have the best resources to aid my students in their learning. It is essential to go into a class with a flexible attitude, as sometimes it is essential to find an alternative way of explaining a concept. Finding different ways of remembering information is useful, as everyone has a different learning style. I can also provide helpful hints and tips, especially as I remember my own experience of studies as well as my background in education. |

View Rachna's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Rachna: Hi! My name is Rachna Vyas and I am a degree-level educated mental health specialist. I am currently on extended leave from employment - the nature of my work means that i am in constant contact with people of all ages, including children who need extra attention. This is one of the best parts of my work - I am a 'people person', I enjoy rewarding work, especially when it comes to working with children and young people. I am a married mother of two boys, both of whom I adore. They are a blessing and have taught me a lot about life and its true meaning. I feel that if I can help enrich the lives of others, including my own family, then i have done something worthwhile with my life! |
Teaching Experience: I have tutored 6 young people who are children of my family & friends. The qualifications they have gained have been excellent and I feel they reflect the quality of my tutoring. The ages have ranged from 10-19 and I have also coached my peers throughout university. As part of my work in mental health, i give training on various subjects, sometimes to groups of up to 15 people. M feedback has always been excellent and the few constructive criticisms that I have had, I have taken on board and adapted my style. |
Tutoring Approach: I do not believe in a single approach to tutoring as all my tutees have had different styles of learning. My initial approach is to talk to or observe the tutee and find out how they learn and what works for them. All i ask from the tutee is honesty and an open, willing approach to learning the subject. I provide regular reports to parents and the tutee and will always ask for feedback from both - if something is not working, then we will all work together and adapt until we get it right! |

View Michele's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / Online
| About Michele: Hello, my name is Michele and I am 21 years old and am currently in my 3rd year of study at Demontfort University, studying for a BSc in Speech and Language Therapy. I am originally from Norwich in Norfolk, and I spend time between Norwich and Great Yarmouth when I am home during vacation. I am interested in doing some tutoring to supplement my studies and I could possibly fit sessions in during term time but more likely during Christmas, Easter and over the summer months. Due to my limited time periods at home I am willing to provide intensive tutoring for exams and alike if required, or just aid individuals who need to catch up during the holidays. I am friendly, patient and open minded and enjoy a challenge, which I think are important qualities for a tutor. |
Teaching Experience: As part of my university course I have completed series of work experience at a nursery and primary school. During the summer months I also work as a nursery assistant with children between the ages of 2-8 years old at a private nursery. |
Tutoring Approach: As I am still in education myself, I understand how difficult and frustrating certain subjects can be if there is no one around to explain things to you in the way that you learn best. That is why I feel that it is important to tutor using a range of different techniques to help tap into the way in which an individual learns and works best. This can be from quizzes to games, diagrams to repetition. I believe in engaging with your learnign and breaking things down into managable pieces. This I feel results in a more permenant form of learning that can then be transfered later in life and techniques that you can take with you and use in the future. I look forward to hearing from you! |

View Stuart's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / Online
| About Stuart: I am a First year student of History at the University of Nottingham. However, I spent the last academic year as a student of paediatric Nursing. I left the course for History, as I decided I could not spend what I thought was an appropriate amount of time with my patients. Also, during the summer term I found myself helping my friends revise for their history exams, as I could remember things from A-level that they had not been taught. In fact since my GCSE's I have always enjoyed helping my friends revise, and found that this only serves to build on my own knowledge. Throughout the course last year I experienced teaching first hand as an assistant in a Nursery and After-School club for 3 weeks, and whilst on a ward placement assisted one of the older patients with continuing their work. As a child I attended many different schools (we moved house a lot) and have met many amazing (and not so amazing) teachers, and from these I have built a picture of how to teach effectively. My position as an assistant in a primary school has helped me do this as well. |
Teaching Experience: I have had experience teaching in a primary school setting for two weeks, and experience teaching both nursery and primary school age pupils for three weeks. Whilst on a ward, I assisted a patient with their studies (for their GCSE's) for six weeks. I have learnt through experience the best ways in which I and many of my friends learn, and have learnt the importance in discovering the best way in which you work and learn. |
Tutoring Approach: In teaching I have found that the best and sometimes only way to help is to find the way in which the tutee learns, and especial how they "see" the problem. During my time at school, I often found teachers would just repeat what they had just said when I said that I didn't understand- and of course that didn't help. For revision I have always found that it is best to work from a solid knowledge base, and to build confidence in the tutee using various techniques (for example: testing or even role playing). Years of revising myself and helping my friends to do so has taught me that everyone revises in a radically different manner, I use large posters and mindmaps (for example) and one of my friends finds talking to himself whilst pacing a circle helps him. This has also taught me the importance of not forcing someone to adapt to a different style of revision if they believe that their system works. |

View Matthew's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Matthew: I am a graduate student at the London School of Economics about to start my Masters in The Philosophy and History of Science. Despite the name of the course, it is mostly mathematics and theoretical physics. The course is ranked second in the world for the area I am studying. My previous degree was from the University of St Andrews, a Masters in Astrophysics for which I was awarded a distinction and I have won numerous awards and scholarships during my degree. I have worked at world renowned research centres including the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, the U.S.A.'s equivalent of CERN. You may have heard of CERN in the news recently with the Large Hadron Collider experiments. I am aiming for an academic career but I am passionate about teaching and education at all levels. I believe education is the key to helping people live fulfilling and successful lives and I find it very rewarding to help people break through conceptual barriers. |
Teaching Experience: I have tutored ten pupils/students over the past year. I get excellent responses from my students during my sessions accompanied by improved grades. I try and use a range of methods tailored to whatever works best for the student from traditional exercises to problem based learning, experiment, lectures and discussion. |
Tutoring Approach: During lessons, I encourage free thinking and use mixtures of traditional exercises, experiments (where relevant and possible), problem based learning, lectures and discussion. My aim is not just to improve my student's abilities but to build confidence and help my students to enjoy science, mathematics and learning in general. Unlike some teachers at school, I'm not going to be patronizing or judgemental. You will not get branded by your target grades or past record of achievement. I treat everyone as having the potential to excel and try to work out with you how best to realize that potential. I am here to help those struggling with school work and those bored out of their minds who want a challenge. I strongly believe that anyone can do mathematics and science, all you need is a great teacher and a reason. I will show you why mathematics and science is so essential and how it can be rewarding and a lot of fun. I will also help with homework, mark homework, give exam coaching and give interview advice. All students and parents are invited to a free, informal consultation to understand your specific needs and devise and initial plan of action. The first lesson is free. |

Also have plenty of experience with children and I am therefore very patient and understanding. I have also recently completed a 100 hour TEFL course which has equipped me excellent skills in teaching methods and lesson planning. I am able to help those who are learning English as a foreign language improve their speaking skills and grammar. I try to use fun methods when teaching as this helps the student to retain more information. Games, flash cards and props are all helpful when learning and I try to incorporate all of these into a lesson. |
Tutoring Approach: Depending on the level of the tutee, I will prepare enjoyable lessons and homeworks to enable the tutee to progress in the language with confidence. If the tutee is doing a GCSE in the language, I will assess what needs to be covered in order to prepare for the exam. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you
| About Sandra: I have been a Science teacher for many years. In 1993 I relocated to Portugal, where I taught my subject in two international schools and gained experience with second language English students. I have recently returned to the UK and I am currently teaching Chemistry to GCSE on a part time basis. Last year, as I was starting to teach and tutor Maths I decided that I needed a refresher course, so I studied independently for AS Maths and was reasonably happy with the outcome. |
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching Science subjects to KS3 and GCSE level for over 30 years. I specialise in Chemistry and Biology, having taught both as separate GCSE subjects. I have also taught the Physics component of the single Science GCSE. Last year I taught GCSE Maths to a small group of Year 12 students who were retaking the exam. |
Tutoring Approach: Unlike some subjects, Maths cannot be learnt - it has to be understood, before a student can do it. The same can be said about many aspects of the Science subjects. I have come to the conclusion that Maths and Science can be understood by most students if they are explained in a series of small, logical steps. This approach builds up confidence and along with that comes success. In addition, I always highlight the links between different parts of the same syllabus and between areas of different subjects that overlap e.g. 'natural polymers' may appear on both Biology and Chemistry syllabuses. |
