View Jacqueline's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / Online
| About Jacqueline: I enjoy working with people. My interests include Ceroc dancing (modern jive), reading (mostly fantasy), writing and crafts (including jewelery and card making). My favorite authors are Trudi Canavan, Terry Pratchett and Holly Lisle. I also like to tinker with my computer, which I built myself. |
Teaching Experience: I am a qualified UK Primary teacher and I have worked in schools with children aged 3-18. I also have experience in tutoring one-to-one or in small groups. I have taught English as a foreign language to very young children, who knew very little English, and also to older children and adults. |
Tutoring Approach: Group discounts are available on request (up to 3 students at a time). I also offer discounts if you introduce your friends. Please ask for details on all discounts. I specialise in the basic skills (reading, writing, spelling, maths, and English as a foreign language). If a child or adult does not have these basic skills they will struggle in other academic subjects and it may hinder their enjoyment of life. I teach these skills using the same theories, to both adults and children. I adapt the content and theme of my lessons to suit the level and interests of the student. I prefer to use a project approach to teaching. I teach the basic skills and the student practises their new skills in interesting and relevant ways. |

I have experience in working with young people of all ages and am very keen to pass on my own skills and help others to achieve the grades I did at school. At the start of the tutoring, I will assess each student for their learning style (as everybody learns in different ways) and ammend the course accordingly. We will also assess their current level of the language and then prepare an action plan. |

View Kelly's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Kelly: I am a practicing writer and home tutor. I am also studying towards a QTS in secondary English. I received a first class honours degree in Creative and Media writing. When I am not teaching I am either taking care of my two children or writing. I take writing very seriously and write for a few websites, as well as performing poetry on the local circuit. I am also in the process of writing a novel and television sketch show. I run my own website and and blog for my writing and feel that I have a lot to offer teaching English, as I am very passionate and knowledgeable about my subject. |
Teaching Experience: I have coached many children successfully through their English exams, all with great results. In addition I have also tutored children and adults in reading and writing skills. I also tutor teenagers and adults in creative writing. References can be provided. |
Tutoring Approach: I offer a creative approach to my pupils. I find that pupils are often taught in the wrong way and as we know everybody learns differently. As a tutor I try to find the learning needs of all my pupils resulting in the pupil finding interest and sense from a subject that may have been previously frustrating to them. I am professional, but approachable with a good sense of hunour which I like to utilise during lessons. I can travel to you or you to me and I am also fine with online and telephone tutoring - although I tend to feel a one-on-one meeting works better for both pupil and teacher. |

View Stephanie's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Stephanie: My name is Stephanie Joynes, I'm 19 years old and a second year student of German at Cardiff University, which I enjoy very much. I attended Wolverhampton Girls' High School from the ages of 11-18, which is a selective school often among the top-ranked schools in the country. I studied all of the core subjects alongside French, German, Japanese, Geography and Religious Studies up to GCSE level, achieving at least an A in all of these. I continued with German and Japanese to A Level, achieving an A grade in each, and AS levels in Applied ICT and Psychology at grade B. I have been involved with Girlguiding UK since the age of 14, and have since developed many skills, including work with young girls from age 5-16, and leadership skills. I am currently looking for a Guide group to join at University, and intend to complete a Leadership Qualification in the near future. |
Teaching Experience: For my Enrichment time in Sixth Form I elected to help with language teaching at a local comprehensive school. I helped in French classes for Year 9, assisting them with their learning by various methods including help with speaking, and leading activities with small groups. Within school, I was a Language Mentor during Year 13, meeting with students once a week to help them with their German skills. I enjoyed this very much as it enabled me to come up with different activities and methods to help the students. Along with a few of my peers I also helped to run a "summer school" for local primary school children for a day, which introduced them to Japanese. I assisted with all aspects of this, from planning to teaching the classes and joining in with the activities. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring would be friendly but professional. I would always come to each session fully prepared, although if the tutee felt there was something they would rather concentrate on instead I would accommodate that. |

| About Jennifer: I am a 22 year-old female, who has jsut graduated from the University of Glasgow with an honours degree in Mathematics and Business Management. I am starting at Jordanhill in August doing Secondary Mathematics teaching, therefore I am in posession of a Disclosure Scotland certificate. During my university course I also studied Physics. During my high school education I took Maths and Physics to Advanced Higher Level and Geography and English to Higher level. |
Teaching Experience: I have had experience of tutoring whilst at school and during my university education. During my final year of university I also attended a local high school one afternoon a week as a classroom assistant in Mathematics classes. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that everyone has a unique way of learning, making one-to-one tutoring vital in some cases. Education is about finding out how a person learns and trying to adapt a subject to this way of learning. Everyone has the ability to understand a subject if the right approach is taken. I think setting breif homework exercises is also vital as repetition is one of the best ways to fully understand a certain subject/technique. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you
| About Emilie: I am a French native speaker. I have lived in England for 5 years where I worked as a French Assistant and as a Language Teacher after having obtained my teaching degree. I have moved to Edinburgh recently. I would describe myself as enthusiastic, creative and hard working I love discovering new places and learning new languages. I love going out with my friends, going to the cinema (especially asian movies) |
Teaching Experience: From October 2001 until May 2003 I was a French assistant in secondary schools in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. I helped pupils to improve their spoken French. From September 2004 until August 2006, I taught in a secondary school in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. I taught French and Spanish to pupils aged 11 to 18. I enjoyed teaching the smaller ones because they are very enthusiastic about learning someting new. However, I prefer GCSE and A-Levels as they have more vocabulary and therefore it is easier to have a conversation with them. I am currently tutoring a 13 year old pupil who feels that she doesn't learn enough at school. |
Tutoring Approach: my tutoring depends on the needs of the tutee. Some people need to improve their spoken skills whereas some can spek a good level of French but might need more grammatical practice. I do the tutoring only speaking French. It might seem scary but my previous tutees found it very useful because they got used to the words. I have several textbooks some for beginners, some for more advanced levels. I create my own resources as well. I usually practise the 4 skills : listening, speaking, reading and writing but again if the tutee want to concentrate on only one I can do that as well. |

Tutoring Approach: I am an excellent tutor who is humorous and patient, and who never makes the student feel embarrassed for not understanding (my own experiences learning Japanese contributed to that!). I can always think of a different way to explain something. I can teach on a wide level - from tutoring in A level English to helping someone with their novel to helping someone to read. I have had excellent testimonials from my creative writing students, who have said I always go the extra mile to help. I am also an advocate of giving the student the skills and knowledge necessary so that he or she can eventually learn on their own. It may shrink my pool of available students, but it is my main aim and approach in my work. I think my main advantage, apart from my qualifications and experience, is my approach - I am laid back and not a difficult to approach academic, yet I will always strive to do the best for my students and am very highly qualified. I am particularly good at working with teenagers. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Yvonne: I am 42 years old, female, and live in Witney, a growing town near Oxford. I am married and have a family of my own (now almost grown up! ) and have been teaching locally for almost 10 years. I am outgoing, friendly, reliable and communicative. I have a passion for English language and literature and enjoy my job immensely. In my leisure time I enjoy meeting friends, socialising, travelling, walks, theatre, reading and writing, gardening, yoga and swimming. |
Teaching Experience: I have 10 years teaching experience, covering a wide age range including Primary & Secondary after -school tuition, SATS/GCSE and ALevel preparation. I do 1-1 private tuition and groups. I also teach EFL at all levels from beginner to Proficiency, with particular emphasis on Cambridge Exam Preparation - PET/FCE/CAE/CPE & IELTS with a good success rate. I have tutored undergraduates preparing for Finals at Oxford and advised researchers on historical/literary background. My first Bacherlor of Arts degree is in English Language & Literature and I graduated from Oxford University. I then completed a Further Education diploma (teaching adults in Further Education ), and a CELTA/DELTA diploma for EFL teaching. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is fairly relaxed but very structured in terms of preparation and planning to provide for individual student needs. I administer an initial placement test and needs analysis and then design an ongoing 'course' of lessons linked to the length of study time required and the student's personal objectives - e.g - to pass ALevel English with good grades to enter University. to gain IELTS level 7.5 for entry to UK University. to gain a good level for English or three 'R's pre SATS and beyond I also offer courses /lessons simply for interest/enjoyment/personal development. I am flexible, adaptable to needs, and willing to travel to individual homes or invite you here to my own in which I have a purpose built teaching space, with lots of resources. I believe in expression of voice and opinion, especially when studying literature, and encouraging students to reach their full potential. Above all, I hope to instil my own passion for language into the teaching I provide, leaving students fulfilled and genuinely having learnt something, whatever the outcome or objectives they wish to achieve. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About James: Having completed a Masters Degree in Aerospace Engineering at Southampton University I have detailed knowledge of Maths and Physics, which having only recently completed the education cycle can apply and teach competently within the sphere of A levels and GCSE's and beyond. I am currently living in Southampton to to pursue a career in Aerospace, but willing to spend time teaching young and old the beauty of science. |
Teaching Experience: Having only just completed a 4 year degree I have limited professional teaching experience but from school upwards I have been a tutor/teacher in many disciplines from lecturing young RAF cadets in varieties of skills outside of the academic range to helping younger relatives and friends pass GCSE's, A-Levels and entrance exams. |
Tutoring Approach: Slowing down - most people I have helped need little encouragement to learn once the time is taken to explain all the details that get glazed over in classroom situations. Patience and common sense are the two most important things for potential exam candidates and I try to teach them the methods and foibles of the examination processes to relieve that pre-exam stress (which I regard as the only reason for ANY person not to fulfil their potential in the sciences) |

View Violetta's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Violetta: I am a native Russian speaker and a qualified linguist, currently working as a freelance translator and interpreter. I love translating but I enjoy teaching even more - it's so rewarding to see your pupil acquire a new skill and discover a new culture. I have recently moved to Somerset from Scotland, where I lived and gave private lessons since 2004. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught Russian to public school pupils, home-schooled children, university students and adults. I am familiar with GCSE Russian requirements and Ab Initio Russian exams at Cambridge University. My experience includes teaching groups in a school environment but, although group lessons have their benefits, I believe that private tuition gives the best results and is more time- and cost-effective. I enjoy teaching students of all levels - from complete beginners to advanced. |
Tutoring Approach: I encourage maximum interaction between a tutor and a student, and after a brief assessment of your current level, we will work together to develop the best plan to improve your comprehension and communication skills. To make lessons more fun, I use a wide range of resources including video clips from Russian films. I also carefully choose and adapt texts from Russian media to make them relevant to your interests. |
