Hello. My name is Laura Tracanna. I am 25 years old. I was born in Italy and moved with my family to the UK at the age of 4. I am trilingual. I speak Italian and English to the same level and I am also fluent in French as I did a BA in Modern Foreign Languages at Westminster University. I qualified from the University of Westminster in 2005 and then did a little travelling and then returned to university in London to continue my studies. I studied for my pgce primary school qualification with French specialism. I am now a qualified primary school teacher and although I trained primarily to teach Key Stage 2, I have been teaching a class of 30 reception children and have loved it. I really enjoy working within the foundation stage. What I do miss however, is using my languages in my everyday work hence my interest in tutoring.
I also had to acquire a different language at a young age and although I was very young and acquisition was fairly subconscious, I understand the difficulties encountered in learning and I am very good at encouraging different approaches which help overcome these difficulties.
I am young and have been told that as a teacher, I am extremely kind and patient.

I have worked as a nanny and tutor for various families in London while I was a student. I tutored the children of foreign families. I taught French and Italian as well as helping them with their homework.

In terms of tutoring, I try to focus initially on areas of interest or required areas of study of my student. I like to get feedback on my own lessons and ask if how a student's learning could be maximised in any way.
I try to vary my lessons so they are not monotonous and always delivered from a textbook or a notebook. I make my own resources at times and try to base lessons in deifferent locations.
I believe in being honest. the tutee needs to feel comfortable to tell me what works for them and vice versa.

My approach is to simply work through past exam papers in order to give the tutee a familiarity with the type of questions asked, and to gauge their relative strengths and weaknesses. I shall impart my experience and understanding to solidify the former while minimising the latter. The A-level syllabi have not changed fundamentally since my A-levels, neither has the format of the questions, how they are marked and the technique with which to approach them. You will find my tutoring to be straightforward and concise.

I think that the sciences and mathematics are generally not taught very well at school. I believe that excelling in them lies not in learning dozens of formulae but with understanding the simple principles upon which they are built. Not only is this approach more interesting and intellectually rewarding, it also allows you to approach any questions asked in exams with confidence and ease. I am absolutely confident in my ability to prepare prospective tutees to achieve not only their maximal marks in the subjects of Maths, Chemistry and Physics; but also to instil a deeper, more unified understanding and appreciation of them.

About Vicki:
I am a twenty year old Warwick University student, about to go into my final year of a degree in English and Comparative Literature.
I intend to become a teacher after graduating, and have already been offered a graduate teaching scheme placement after I have finished my degree at a Coventry Secondary School.
I am friendly, helpful, considerate and encouraging, and have much experience of working with children of all ages, particularly those with Special Educational Needs.

Teaching Experience:
I have taught in schools in Coventry, Marbella, Spain and Matlock, Derbyshire.

I have completed the Student Associate Scheme through Warwick University, whereby I passed a teaching assessment process which meant that I could take part of my teacher training early and also go into a local Coventry Secondary School one day a week to teach lessons, work in the Special Needs department and to work as a teaching assistant in other lessons. This role taught me a lot about teaching, and in particular about effective lesson delivery to large groups, these skills can obviously be adapted to bring about effective learning on a one-to-one basis.

In the last academic year I also worked one day a week in another Coventry Secondary School in the Special Needs department, working on a one-to-one basis with students who had difficulties such as ADHD, Asperger's syndrome, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, and also those with Behavioural problems. I worked with these students to improve their core English and Mathematics skills, as they were working towards a qualification that demonstrated their key knowledge of both. This role was the same as will be required for tutoring, the one-to-one encouragement and development of a student being key.

I have worked in the Aloha College in Marbella, Spain, developing English as a Foreign Language skills with students that were 13 years old, and also helping in some GCSE equivalent classes. The main thing that this role taught me were the skills needed to effectively teach EFL and bring about effective and lasting understanding of English to non-native speakers.

When I was doing my A' levels in Matlock, Derbyshire, I worked in the Special Needs department of my school for two lessons a week, mainly on a one-to-one basis, but also on a whole class level. In this role I focused on developing the communicational and language skills of the students, but also helped with many subjects. I also specialised in working with students that had ADHD, and developed effective learning programmes for them.

Tutoring Approach:
I would approach tutoring as a very pupil-centred experience, as the student is likely to have specific areas that they want help with developing and understanding as a starting point. This would be the first area that I addressed.

The next stage would be to link this area that needed extra help to the wider context of the subject as a whole, to ensure full understanding of the subject and to help with any further problems that may occur.

Homework would be an aspect of my tutoring, however, I would not want it to get in the way of homework that is set by the school, so if the student had a large amount of coursework and/or homework that the school had set, I would accept that it would not always be possible to do the work that I had set as well.

I would also offer help and guidance on any homework with which the student was stuck, and use this as a starting point for further discussion and development of the student's knowledge and understanding of the subject, as the issues that are raised in homework are often those that are the most difficult to recognise at school, as the student often does not get the opportunity to discuss with the teacher what they found difficult about the homework, they are often just told what they did is wrong, which does not give the student any scope for being able to work through their difficulties and fully understand the subject.

I also do a lot of work with students with special educational needs, and would be more than willing to continue this, if only a level that would teach the student coping techniques and strategies to use in the school environment in order to help them get on better at school.

I believe simple and clear explanations that follow logically are the best way for a student to understand and remember. Also I will be as patiently and friendly as possible because a student need to be motivated and feel relaxed while they're learning to be at their best. About Jonathan:
I'm currently a mathematics teaching in a Welsh-medium school, following the WJEC syllabi and find the time spent in a 1-2-1 situation the most rewarding and beneficial to the child. I'm outgoing and normally gets along with the majority of people, and I accept people for what they are.

Teaching Experience:
I completed my Post-Graduate Certificate in Education in 2007 and have been teaching and tutoring continuously since then, with classes ranging from year 7 to 11, as well as A-level classes, and those classes have been of all abilities, with SEN needs having to be considered at times also.

Tutoring Approach:
The child should lead the tutoring in my opinion. The tutor's role is one of support, explaining work that the child finds difficult and teaching other methods to complement those taught at the child's school. The child should be the one deciding what he or she wants to revise in the tutoring session, whether a recent homework or test, or more generally recent classwork.

If necessary I am more than willing to increase the amount of tutoring nearer exams or during school holidays.
