Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About Thomas: Hi, my name is Tom, and I'm an easygoing student in Bristol. I have a MSci in Physics and am currently completing a PhD in Maths. I have experience teaching Physics and Maths, something which I enjoy a lot. I am very good at simplifying and explaining concepts and am familiar with problems students of maths frequently have. If you are looking for more Physics or Maths tutoring at any level, please contact me. |
Teaching Experience: I am currently teaching in the University of Bristol (I teach first year Physicists and Mathematicians). This level tends to be from A level standard up to fairly advanced mathematics. |
Tutoring Approach: I feel strongly that tutoring should provide a huge benefit over classroom lessons. One to one lessons allow specific problems to be found and explained clearly, and an informal atmosphere, encourages questions. I consider it the responsibility of the teacher to provide an interesting insight into their subject, and to make it more accessible to students. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / Online
| About Amy-Jane: I have just finished my first year at the University of Reading studying a BA (ED) with English specialism, however, having found that my true passion lies within English, particularly English language, I have decided to transfer onto an English language degree course. I am passionate about helping children discover their true potential, as well as passionate about helping children with areas within their schooling which they may struggle with. |
Teaching Experience: During my first year at university I have completed a four-week teaching placement block at a local primary school in Reading, Berkshire. I acted as a classroom assistant for a large percent of the time, helping the children (year one) with their class work. I also listened to the children read and I also took whole-class and group lessons. During my first year at university I also helped run a poetry workshop, where I worked with a small group of children (year 5) to help them devise ways in which they could present a poem, not only altering the way they spoke but also how they acted certain parts of the poem out with other members of their group. In June/ July 2006 I worked in a local primary school in Norfolk for three weeks where I worked as a classroom assistant in a year six class. My main responsibilities were to help the children with their work, as well as helping with displays and laying out materials which were needed in specific lessons. In July 2005 I volunteered in a local children's holiday club in Dereham, Norfolk. My main role was to support the group leader, as well as to help the children with specific activities. |
Tutoring Approach: I am applying to become a tutor as I am passionate about helping children achieve to the best of their ability. I feel that my passion, not only for the subjects which I would like to specialise in, but for the children, is a big asset as it would enable me to put my all into helping the children, making the job thoroughly enjoyable and inspiring. |

View Michele's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / Online
| About Michele: Hello, my name is Michele and I am 21 years old and am currently in my 3rd year of study at Demontfort University, studying for a BSc in Speech and Language Therapy. I am originally from Norwich in Norfolk, and I spend time between Norwich and Great Yarmouth when I am home during vacation. I am interested in doing some tutoring to supplement my studies and I could possibly fit sessions in during term time but more likely during Christmas, Easter and over the summer months. Due to my limited time periods at home I am willing to provide intensive tutoring for exams and alike if required, or just aid individuals who need to catch up during the holidays. I am friendly, patient and open minded and enjoy a challenge, which I think are important qualities for a tutor. |
Teaching Experience: As part of my university course I have completed series of work experience at a nursery and primary school. During the summer months I also work as a nursery assistant with children between the ages of 2-8 years old at a private nursery. |
Tutoring Approach: As I am still in education myself, I understand how difficult and frustrating certain subjects can be if there is no one around to explain things to you in the way that you learn best. That is why I feel that it is important to tutor using a range of different techniques to help tap into the way in which an individual learns and works best. This can be from quizzes to games, diagrams to repetition. I believe in engaging with your learnign and breaking things down into managable pieces. This I feel results in a more permenant form of learning that can then be transfered later in life and techniques that you can take with you and use in the future. I look forward to hearing from you! |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About Nic: I am devoted to helping others do better. I have found that there is no such thing as a stupid person - and that many, many individuals privately feel this way about themselves when in fact they simply have not been enabled to study properly. |
Teaching Experience: I trained as a Tutor with the Hollywood Education and Literacy Project in 1999. I have helped persons with study and study problems ever since. I apply the teaching methods endorsed by Applied Scholastics International (please see their website for further information). |
Tutoring Approach: If a person cannot think with the information they are studying they will not be able to use it. If they cannot use it then their time spent with education is effectively wasted. There are three basic barriers to study and comprehension. My approach is to help locate those barriers and assist an individual to independence and success in their studies. These principles are effective for ANY subject. |

| About África: I am a Spaniard living in Birmingham. I have got a Certificate of Educational Competence and a degree in History of Art from Universidad Complutense, Madrid, Spain. |
Teaching Experience: I have six years of experience in private tutoring, teaching English in Spain to tutees of different levels, as well as three years of experience teaching English in a school at Primary and Secondary grades. Although I have never taught Spanish as a foreign language, this is my mother tongue language and I have taught it to Spanish tutees with learning difficulties. I love languages and I am studying German at the moment, so I know how difficult it is to learn a foreign language, I know how to do it and I can help you. |
Tutoring Approach: I use previous experience to adapt my teaching style for each student, taking into account their weaknesses, interests and aspirations. I try to make learning a language an enjoyable experience, teaching not only grammar and vocabulary, but also Spanish culture and a real up-to-date use of Spanish. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Ian: I am a professional composer and teacher currently studying part-time for a Masters in Music Production and Composition for film and TV. I teach all styles of piano from classical, to pop, to jazz. I will teach beginners through to advanced performers and am happy to pass on my experiences of performance practice and my tips for overcoming performance anxiety, something I personally suffered with and overcame. I can also provide tuition in composition, orchestration, harmony, music theory and music production techniques. As an extra, I also teach acoustic guitar for popular music at a reduced rate. |
Teaching Experience: 15+ years piano performance experience. 5+ years private piano tuition experience at all age levels and abilities. |
Tutoring Approach: I try to keep my lessons are informal and friendly, however during the first lesson, I sit down with the pupil or parent and discuss their aims and motivations. I will then push the pupil as hard or as soft as is needed to reach their goals. I focus primarily on the development of an excellent finger technique from day one as bad technique is very difficult to undo later on and may prevent the pupil from fully achieving their potential. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About Raphael: I am a French native, qualified languages teacher working in a reputable North London secondary school. I have a genuine enthusiasm for languages and for language education as I have had experience of teaching French in various contexts and countries. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught across Key Stages 3, 4, 5 within several secondary schools in London. I also had the opportunity to teach pupils with Special Educational Needs as well as gifted ones and I am therefore aware of their need for differentiation through support and extension activities provided when delivering lessons. I am also teaching French to adults and I believe that helping them to learn my language is extremely rewarding, whether they are great beginners or fluent speakers. In fact, I have been living overseas for several years now and I think that I became a good ambassador of my country and culture. |
Tutoring Approach: I have specialised in one-to-one support and exam preparation (GCSE, Common Entrance, etc.) with tailored programmes to meet the individual needs as well as a creative teaching style. In my teaching, I always transfer to my students my own enthusiasm for languages and try to enhance their motivation and enjoyment of language learning. I set my students high standards for work and have received positive feedback from pupils and peers. |
