About Natalia:
My name is Natalia Miralles. I am 28 years of age and am currently doing supply teaching around the Liverpool area.

Teaching Experience:

I am in my third year of teaching in Liverpool after qualifying as a Teacher in July 2006 from liverpool Hope University. I taught at a Primary School in Everton for 2 years, the first year as a year 3 Teacher and the second year as a Supply Teacher. the latter requiring me to teach all subjects from reception to year 6. I have also worked as part of the making good progress initiative which involved tutoring children for their SATs after School hours. I then worked in a primary support centre for half a term to help children overcome barriers to learning.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is working with children when they are best able to learn. This involves a mind friendly approach to learning, which aims to engage all thir senses. I feel children are best able to learn whent they are thoroughly involved and motivated in their studies. I try to ensure all tutoring senses use visual aids and hands on experience where necessary. If children do not respond well to the way I tutor, I am able to adapt it to suit their needs. All children learn in different ways and I feel its my job as a Teacher to discover it.

About Jane:
I recently graduated from the University of Nottingham with a Masters level degree in human nutrition and dietetics. Before completing my degree I studied for A levels in Biology, Chemistry, Geography and Home Economics (Food Science). I therefore feel I would be competent to tutor students in the above subjects.
In September I started a PhD in human nutrition and hope one day to become a university lecturer.

Teaching Experience:

I have gained experience in many areas of teaching/tutoring. I have successfully tutored many students through their GCSEs and A-levels, helping them to achieve the grades they needed to go to university, or pursue their intended career. I have a vast resource of teaching aids and past exam papers, which can be used to help the student gain their highest possible marks..

Tutoring Approach:

I am able to break down large chunks of information into smaller, understandable parts. Through the tutoring experience I have gained I understand that the same approach to teaching will not apply to every student and I am able to adapt my teaching style to each student. Through my own university experience I have found that sticking closely to the syllabus often yields excellent results in examinations.

As I have recently finished my degree I feel I am ideally placed to understand the modern educational process and empathise with any prospective students. I am happy to tutor from my home or travel to you.

Due to my job as a dietitian I have a full CRB check of which I would be more than happy to provide a copy of.

About Heather:
I am 35, and have been studying off and on for many years. I studied A levels in evening classes, which is a good way to learn efficient study skills. I recently completed my Masters' in English and will study for a doctorate when I have the funds.

I like to read and study informally in my spare time (although not all the time!) and I am interested in a wide range of subjects, especially modern popular culture. I am very fond of pop music, films and TV dramas.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored my frineds in A level English and GCSE Maths, and have helped other students at university with their exam preparation. Recently, I have taken on a few GCSE and A-level English pupils.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a friendly and informal approach to tutoring. I work from the basis that the best way to learn is through love of the subject and all its quirks. I can explain the best way to work with internet searches and libraries, and how to find interest in the even most wretched set text. I can also advise on essay-writing, research and exam strategy.

About Angela:
I recently retired from my job as an Assistant Headteacher and Head of Mathematics in a large comprehensive school. I would like to remain involved in a small way in teaching my subject. I retain a passion for Mathematics and believe I have the ability to help people through difficulties they may encounter at various levels. I have an Honours Degree in Mathematics and a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Mangement.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 40 years experience as a Maths teacher and have taught at levels from Key Stage 2 to Advanced level. My last school was a large comprehensive which became a Specialist Mathematics and Computing College and was involved in an International Mathematics teaching project with Exeter University. I was a Senior Examiner/Marker at Key Stage 3 and GCSE for many years so am very familiar with the requirements of examinations at 14 and 16.

Tutoring Approach:

Face to face tutoring may well be the best approach for my subject as it is so crucial that the tutee really understands what they are doing. However, it is also possible to discuss problems by telephone or e-mail or to set and mark work with written comments or to use a combination of these methods. I can guarantee a patient approach appropriate to the individual's needs.

About Deirdre:
I am a student going into my fifth year of study at Trinity College Dublin. I completed the first half of my degree in Spanish in June 2007, receiving a II.1, and have spent the past year teaching English in France. I will be returning to Dublin in September 2008 to complete my French degree. I love languages and have always had a passion for learning languages and a flair for adapting them into my everyday life. I am also extremely interested in foreign cultures, literature and film. When I complete my degree I hope to continue my studies, concentrating on teaching, and become a foreign language teacher.

Teaching Experience:

I have spent the past school year in France teaching English. As I was working in 2 different schools (the french schooling system distinguishes between college 11-14, and lyce 15-18) I was able to gain the experience of teaching different age groups ranging from 11 years to 18. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and am delighted that my year abroad has confirmed my desire to go into teaching as a career.
While in France I also gave private one-on-one tuition in the evenings.

Tutoring Approach:

Due to the time of year, I am aware of many students needing last minute help before the big summer exams. I am willing to accommodate any student who may be having problems, and I will comprehensively work with them to ensure they can achieve the best grade possible

About Leo:
Hi, I'm currently an undergraduate student at the University of Leeds studying BA Economics + Philosophy who would like to tutor part time in subjects that I have studied in the past and have knowledge in. I would in Leeds locally and you can contact me at leo(dash)e(dash)j(at)hotmail(dot)co(dot)uk.

Teaching Experience:

this would be my first time tutoring, however I am a bright student who did well in school and in exams and I've been through the whole system so I understand from a students perspective of what is needed.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe simple and clear explanations that follow logically are the best way for a student to understand and remember. Also I will be as patiently and friendly as possible because a student need to be motivated and feel relaxed while they're learning to be at their best. Lastly I also believe face to face contact is the best way to teach and learn, therefore I will not tutor online.

About Danny:
I am a 23 year old living near Old Street and currently working for a PR agency in Covent Garden. I graduated from Oxford University this summer with a first class degree in English Language and Literature, and will be studying for an MA in 20th Century Literature at UCL as of September.

Academically I have a particular interest in modern prose but am also well read in most other periods and genres, as well as European and American literature. I have a good knowledge of critical theory, a broad general knowledge of philosophy and a grounding in modern political literature.

In my spare time I enjoy listening to and performing music, and currently play guitar in a semi-professional funk band. I also enjoy writing, having edited both factual and satirical magazines, as well as traveling and socialising with friends.

Teaching Experience:

I have privately tutored English Literature to GCSE and A Level students during University holidays, as well as giving guitar lessons throughout my school career.

Tutoring Approach:

When tutoring I aim to create a relaxed and informal atmosphere and encourage tutees to offer personal responses to the texts they are studying, which I can then help to develop and put into context. I believe working directly with the text is the best way to develop a critical approach and the best way to form an argument that can be used as the basis of an essay or exam answer.

Particularly in arts and humanities subjects, every pupil has their own individual approach. I believe that rather than forcing a particular style upon a tutee it is best to identify and develop their personal strengths, whilst helping to counter their weaknesses.

I also offer guidance on writing style and exam and essay technique. Having completed my own education relatively recently I am well aware of the requirements of the GCSE and A Level systems, and am well placed to help tutees achieve results that match their potential.

About Christine:
I am French but have been living in the UK for 18 years! I am a teacher and a mother of 3.
I am reliable, patient and above all persistant. I love a challenge and will not give up until I've found a way to get through to a student making him/her realise that, yes, French can be a challenge (sometimes...) but the rewards are great and very worthwile! Learning a language need not be boring and it's a life long skill that will have implications in your professional, personal and social life.

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced qualified teacher and also a native speaker. I have been teaching years 7 to 13 in a secondary school for 9 years and previously taught in a bilingual nursery school. I have extensive knowledge of exam practise and techniques in all 4 skills (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking) both at GCSE and A levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very patient and understanding of the challenges of learning a foreign language as I've been there myself.
I am passionate about French and have loads of resources to make learning fun, interactive and to help the learning "stick"! I try to use real French material (from magazines, video clips etc) when relevant.
I will tailor the sessions to suits each student particular needs and consolidate/develop grammar and vocabulary in speaking, writing, listening and reading.

About Paul:
I have been studying Spanish for 17 years and started teaching after graduating with a Ba with honours in Spanish and Computer Science. I have lived in Spain for two years where I worked as a English teacher in a Spanish secondary school. I am married with one son and play golf in my free time.

Teaching Experience:

have many years Spanish teaching experience on a private basis and I have taught Spanish in Offices within Cambridge as well. I am the current Spanish teacher at Cottenham Village College where I teach their Spanish evening classes. I have also taught English and Spanish in Japan after graduating from university.

Tutoring Approach:

I always try and create lessons that are focused towards the student. I am a very patient person and take great pleasure in helping people learn. I always try and organise with my students what they want the lesson to focus on prior to them coming for their lesson. This then enables me to provide appropriate material for the lesson and the student gets as much out of it as possible.

About Julieta:
An enthusiastic and out going Latin American Spanish teacher from Argentina with a passion for helping others improve their language skills! - Especially Spanish (from beginners to expert), conversational Italian and English for non-English speakers.
_________________________________
Terrific international experience, equally at home in South America, Europe and the UK. An exceptional ability to communicate at every level, from school children who want extra help with their Spanish homework to business managers who want to expand their ability to deal with overseas customers and those who want to learn more about the world around them - or are just going to on holiday!!

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English to children and teenagers for approximately five years in Argentina together with "Spanish as a foreign language". I have now brought those courses to the UK and they are available now!
_________________________________
In addition to languages I also teach drama and free expression for beginners and would be actors. A great technique to learn if you want to build personal confidence in every aspect of life - from delivering business presentations to building personal friendships.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a lot of experience in helping college and University students, children of all ages and, of course, their Mums and Dads! - from designing language classes to providing personal tuition and 1 : 1 language coaching. Those classes include:
________________________________
Regular classes with a careful mix of 25% listening, 25% oral, 25% reading and 25% writing skills all of which can be adjusted to meet the specific needs of the student. The classes use a range of techniques and games and inevitably have special homework assignments!

Conversation classes: In these the student and I develop special themes (for college, work or just for fun!) and use those "themes" to help build grammar and vocabulary. The conversation classes are dynamic, full of games, and involve a little bit of acting - what better way to out your language skills into practice!

Special classes: In these we handle a wide range of "real life" activities, from watching a movie, going to the supermarket, visiting a park and learning how to tango!
________________________________
The lessons can range from an hour to a whole day - so the classes can fit around your social, school and business life. So now there is no excuse in not getting going!

Atrevete! Andiamo!

About Sian:
I am a professional writer, with three books and several articles published. I write about eighteenth and nineteenth century history. I have two small children and live in central Brighton.

Teaching Experience:

Before I became a historian, I travelled a great deal and taught English and British history to children, teenagers and adults in England, Italy, Spain and Australia.

Tutoring Approach:

I think students need to be stimulated to learn, which means tapping each individual's imagination and capabilities. Compared to many teachers, I am strict - firstly because I think students will take a subject more seriously if they see their teaching being serious about it; and secondly because if you're paying for a lesson, you need to get the most out of it.

About Jennifer:
I have recently graduated in Japanese and English Linguistics from Newcastle University with a 2:1 hons. Encouraging people to make the most of languages really inspired me to pursue tutoring. I developed my interest in languages while learning German at school which also gave me my first opportunity to travel and experience other cultures. The beautiful intricacies of Japanese customs and the intriguing complexity of the language motivated me to study Japanese at university.

Modern Languages is an essential part of the curriculum: developing students' confidence and communication skills, and expanding their ability to communicate their opinions. I appreciate the disastrous effect removing languages from compulsory education will have and hope to inspire children into enjoying languages as much as I do. The demand for interpreters and other language related professionals means this is equipping students with something extremely useful for the rest of their lives.

Teaching Experience:

As I had always been interested in speech and language science, a profession closely linked with education, I undertook work experience in a school for children with speech and language difficulties. Assisting both the teaching and language support staff meant I could sample both vocations.

I believe the key to being a successful teacher lies in successfully communicating complex information. During the summer I taught Japanese privately in Leeds. My experience of language learning taught me how different teaching methods can have a completely different effect on students. Combining this knowledge with my private teaching experience confirmed for me that a more personal approach was always effective.

Tutoring Approach:

I use visual aids and other supplementary materials to try and engage the student. Themed lessons involving specific grammar points will also make learning more fun!

About Lucy:
Having graduated from Warwick University in 2004, I began my career in Cheadle, Cheshire. I have recently relocated to Kent with my husband, my little boy and my rather podgy labrador-Freddie. I enjoy the good things in life, travelling, dining out, an open fire and a sunday roast. My proudest moments so far are wearing my beautiful meringue wedding dress to marry my husband and seeing my baby take his first breath.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching at a large private school for the past four years since qualifying as a teacher. During this time I have been a class teacher for the foundation stage and Year Two, however, I have run many extra curricular clubs and school trips with with children across all ages of the primary sector. My qualification is for all subjects from ages 3-11. Having taught in a private school I naturally have very high standards and understand the many pressures that things such as entrance exams put on both children and parents.

Tutoring Approach:

I ensure my tutoring is child led, discussing with the parents and child the exact areas they wish to focus on and the ways in which the child enjoys learning. I can cater for a variety of learning styles and having had experience in Reception I am used to making learning very hands on and practical. As a young teacher I still have a burning passion for education and endeavor to provide exciting activities to help young minds understand. Tutoring is not only about understanding the topic/concept being taught it is also about building confidence that the child can then take back and use in the classroom.

About Chantal:
I recently graduated from University of Cambridge in Medicine, and I am currently studying for a Master's in Immunology at Imperial College London.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught piano music theory to children and adults for 8 years. I have also taught science and maths of various levels to children for 6 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I find that a firm understanding of the subject, an understanding of a child's mind, and an appreciation of their other pressures makes a more supportive tutor. I also believe that questions and past papers provide a vital revision tool and test the knowledge of a student. It is time-wasting to merely lecture someone without ensuring their understanding of a topic. I am very passionate about teaching children because I believe that through the correct supervision and hard work, you can reach your full potential to succeed in examinations.
