Personal Description:
Before coming into teaching, I worked in the Music Industry as a professional session singer. The work was varied and diverse. I sang with many named artistes and toured on an international level. I also have extensive experience in the recording studio. In 2005, I deceided to 'change direction' and studied Performance Arts, gaining a BA Hons Degree in the subject in 2008.
I studied Shakespeare, Stanislavski and many other drama practioners and methods.
I feel that because of my life experience, I bring a very friendly approach to my teaching. Also, being a 'mature student' myself has added to my understanding of needing alittle 'help' at times.
My approach is a mixture of theory and practical. I like to make sure that my student understands where he/she is approaching the given subject - be it an acting method or a scripted reading.

Teaching Experience:

After graduating with honours, I went on to gain a Post Grad teaching degree (PGCE). I have been teaching singing privately for the past eight years and started teaching drama and performing arts since 2006. Whilst doing my PGCE, I was employed as a part-time lecturer for performance arts at Salford University teaching 2nd year degree students.
I teach at a private performing academy with children whose ages range from 6 to 18 years old and at another private acting academy that is attached to ITV studios in Leeds.
Because of all my experience, I am able to cover three subjects to any level - drama, singing and Musical Theatre.

Tutoring Approach:

On our first meeting, I like to find out just where the student is at in their given subject; what their past experiences are and what their expectations are of having extra tuition. An understanding of their strengths and weaknesses is also important to find out at an early stage so that together, we can plan a way forward.
I am a friendly, patient and easy-going person with a very good sense of humour but I take my teaching very seriously and remain quite passionate about drama and performing arts on the whole.
I always like to make sure that the student leaves my class with full understanding of the work we have done and will ensure that any questions or concerns are addressed before the end of the lesson.

Personal Description:
I'm an extremely strong mathematician, scoring top grades through school (including scoring 300/300 in my AS Level Further Maths), and went on to a heavily maths-based degree in Civil Engineering with Management.

Aside from teaching Maths, I've had a wide range of experiences - I've helped set up an community project in my friend's village in Tanzania and have taught some of our sponsored students out there. I'm currently training to be an actor, and am filling the gaps with supply teaching and private tutoring.

I'm really busy at the moment, but can probably manage new tutees who are situated conveniently along the East London Line between about Sydenham and Whitechapel.

Teaching Experience:

* Teaching and working with young people as a volunteer or professionally since 2004.

* Qualified as a Maths teacher in 2006.

* Held long term posts in 4 secondary schools, ranging from very challenging schools through to a high performing grammar school.

* Have taught the full ability range from low ability Year 7 through to A Level Further Maths.

* GCSE Maths Examiner since March 2012.

* Tutoring 9-18 year olds since April 2012.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm keen to help pupils understand how maths works, and not simply learn a standard set of instructions to follow to reach the "right" answer.

With the new type of functional Maths GCSE questions, having a good understanding is more important than ever - students simply cannot get by on rote-learning the method alone any more. Students need to be able to explain their answer clearly, and I make sure I incorporate this into my lessons.

Of course, approach will vary substantially depending on the student.

Students who are very close to their exams will need more focus on how to get the best result.

With younger students there will be more opportunity to focus on their understanding, and exploring how Maths works. I try to avoid simply teaching "How To Get The Right Answer To This Particular Type Of Exam Question", which might get them through tests in the short term, but is rather less helpful to them in the long term.

As a tutor I'd be choosing the most appropriate approach for the student.

Although I specialise in Maths, I am more than comfortable with science, and can also help students up to secondary school level in this subject.

GROUP DISCOUNTS:
* 5 discount per student if working in a pair.
* 10 discount per student in groups of 3 or more.

Personal Description:
I am London-based, with experience in tutoring English Language and Literature to secondary students from the ages of 13 to 16. I am particularly focused on years 10 to 11 and the Language/Literature GCSEs. I am familiar with the AQA and OCR exam boards, and I understand the stresses facing many students at this point in their academic life.

Teaching Experience:

To date, I have been tutoring part-time, however I would now like to move into it on a fuller basis. I also have experience of teaching English to people for whom it is not a first language, and I can draw on this where some GSCE students may not always have lived in the UK.

Tutoring Approach:

I am extremely patient and understanding of the pressures facing many young people at this point in their academic life. However I will also work to ensure that they challenge themselves to get the very best results, to an aim to building knowledge of English as subject and self-confidence in their ability to tackle and enjoy it.

Personal Description:
Hi

I have just finished a PhD in maths at Newcastle University so it goes without saying I'm enthusiastic about both maths and physics. On top of this I have a wide variety of interests, and this allows me to find ways of explaining things that the people I'm tutoring can relate to.

Teaching Experience:

While studying at Newcastle I've taken many tutorials for students taking courses in Maths. For the past 6 years I've also worked in a tutoring drop-in centre where any student at Newcastle University can come to ask maths questions. I've always enjoyed this work as over the course of a day I can be asked how to apply maths to many problems from mechanical engineering to fine arts!

I have also done a lot of private tuition of A-levels for all of the major examining boards. I have often got this work from referral of satisfied customers.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed and friendly tutoring style.

I usually find students learn best by working through questions or examples, but I am also happy provide teaching of entire subjects from scratch. So if you're having trouble understand the material needed to pass an exam/assignment or wanting to learn about a subject from start to finish I will be able to help.

Personal Description:
I am a part-time student working towards a PhD in a subject encompassing English literature, philosophy and film studies. I am passionate about and engaged with these subjects in all their aspects and especially enthusiastic about using my knowledge of each and sharing and communicating ideas with people on all levels, within and outside an academic setting. I have previously studied towards an MA in Contemporary Literature and BA in English Literature with Philosophy and Ethics at the University of Liverpool and Liverpool Hope University respectively, during which I experienced and benefited from exposure to a multitude of approaches and interpretations of these subjects, in my own research as well as from tutors and fellow students. I am also fluent in French, having lived in Belgium as a child; as a result, I am very conscious of how I and others translate our ideas into words, interested in the process of developing self-expression and understanding, as well as able to adapt quickly and effectively.

Teaching Experience:

Over the course of my studies, and particularly over the last year, I have participated in and taught BA and MA level seminars, including co-teaching a second year undergraduate module in English Literature, for which I lectured, led seminars, marked coursework, and held tutorials with individual students. I have also tutored a student studying towards professional accreditation as a Chartered Surveyor in English, going over their written work and coaching them for their presentations.

Tutoring Approach:

I am primarily interested in establishing what the student expects and hopes to gain from tuition, in understanding their knowledge of and approach to the subject and in collaborating to develop it further, as well as creating a shared space into which I can bring in other ideas. I feel that defining and developing a sophisticated and highly personal approach to a subject is the most important aspect of education, for both academic achievement and in relating your studies to your life as a whole, and this is what I want to encourage; my own adaptability, interest in communicating ideas, and thorough knowledge of these subjects allow me to pick up on strengths and weaknesses in different approaches and to help them to realise their potential in relating them to established ideas and practices.

Personal Description:
Hello! My name is Arron and I am an avid musician in every aspect.
I love playing the drums, guitar and bass. Infact any instrument I can get my hands on! I have been playing the drums since my last year of highschool and I dedicated every evening to playing the drums. I also got into music production and technology and started doing simple recordings of friends and myself, and from there things have developed. I am currently self employed working at home in my own custom built recording studio where I teach the drums, guitar and also record musicians and bands. I am also a gamer at heart having playing with computers since I was 2 years old. I am very tech-savvy and love technology and how it can be applied to music to improve the way we learn our instruments and the way we create music.
I have also been in several bands ranging from pop punk to hard rock and indie and I like good music, what ever genre it might be!

Teaching Experience:

I have taught several groups of people ranging from very young to middle-aged in regards to drumming when I was the drum tutor as part of a music experience group in a local village.

In regards to other subjects I have taught people how to build and manage their own computers and networks as well as teaching my university colleagues how to use various pieces of software and hardware while I was at university studying Computer Generated Imagery (CGI / Games Design).

I have also offered my services as a session drummer where by I am invited by studios to perform the drums and help with percussion with studio projects as well as aiding with music technology and production.

Tutoring Approach:

There are many ways approaching tutoring and it all depends on how the student learns best. I have had several students who excel when taught using visual aids, while some learned quicker by listening. As I get to know my students and as they get to know me we will work together to get the most out of our lessons.

I tend to not focus too heavily on grading and exams as this can cause resentment towards practising and learning and the I know from experience that the last thing anyone wants is for their hobby and passion to become work and frustration. But I do like to set goals, tasks and challenges and try to work with my students so they learn and progress.

What I can offer at no extra cost is quick recordings of the student to hear what they sound like as well as little song recordings. I can slo record myself to help students practise certain drum beats and phrases. I often find if you can learn to play by ear then you can learn almost anything in the drums.

Personal Description:
I am French-Swiss, fluent in both French and English. After completing my chemistry BSc and MSc in Switzerland, I moved to the UK six years ago to study for a PhD on a chemistry subject at the University of Manchester. After graduating from my PhD, I have held two research chemist positions at the University of Manchester.

Teaching Experience:

CHEMISTRY-During my PhD and research contracts I have supervised a large numbers of undergraduate and postgraduate students in chemistry. My duties as supervisor included training students to use the equipment provided, teaching them to search through literature, write scientific reports and teach them the relevant science behind their experiments.

FRENCH-Although I do not have any formal French teaching experience, my French is of an exceptional level as I am a native speaker with the equivalent of French A levels obtained in a French speaking country. I would have no difficulties tutoring students in French.

Tutoring Approach:

I will tailor each lesson to the students individual needs with a high emphasis on their weakest areas.

When approaching the exam period I will generally go over many past papers in order to fully train students to get the best grade possible.

CHEMISTRY-Chemistry is without question one of the more difficult subjects to study, however it is one of the most rewarding. I have a large library of academic books and so have an almost endless stock of material to create problems to help drive home the foundational science behind what the student is learning.

FRENCH-I believe there is no substitute for learning a language from a native speaker; students would be immersed in a French speaking environment from the minute they walk through the door.
