Personal Description:
I am a caring and patient teacher . I develop good relationships with my pupils and care about their general well being. I adapt teaching aproaches to suit individual pupils to enable them to engage with the learning in a postive and supportive way. Children say they like my lessons and enjoy being tutored by me.
If you home school your child I can provide tutoring of a specific subject area fit around your timetable and the way your child prefers to learn.
I am also a parent of boys with SEN,(dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism and adhd) and have a good knowledge of special education needs and the impact of these on teaching, learning and home life.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 5 years in the primary age range and really enjoy it. I have been privately tutoring for 6 years covering both all literacy areas and maths. I have up-to-date training in the new grammar, spelling and punctuation KS2 SAT's paper. In the area of spelling, I have current experience in the synthetic phonics approach. I have used this from the beginning stages in year 1, and also adapted teaching with the support of practical materials to pupils in KS2.
I can provide references from parents of current pupils.

I am able to support your child through the transition into secondary school, providing practical ideas to get ready and support during the first term to enable them to remain positive about their potential as a learner. I can also help advise on issues arising from difficulties in personal organisation from moving around the school to coping with having the right things in their bag on a daily basis.

I can tutor pupils through secondary education in English and English literature. I can support those who are experiencing dyslexic issues and need some support with homework.

Tutoring Approach:

I treat each child as an individual taking into account both parents and the pupils views and needs. I provide suport to catch up on missed areas of basic skills, which is delaying learning, as well as being able to support targets set by school for the pupils individual progress. Through an initial consultation I seek to find out what the needs are and, with parents and pupil, plan suitable help to reach their goals. I share objectives with parents and pupils and give regular feed back to both to reach those goals. I belive it is important for all to see progress is being made. With parents and pupils permission, I like to make contact with their teacher to work with class teacher in identifing areas of difficulty and planning appropriate support. I find that this approach give the maximum benefit for all concerned.
The greatest difference I make to my pupils is to increase their confidence which in turn enables them to be more willing to take part in whole class sessions at school. Teachers of at least 2 of my pupils have remarked on the difference in attitude of the pupils who I have tutored.

Personal Description:
I have 20 years of experience in publishing as a writer and editor and am passionate about nurturing English language skills and a love of English literature. I graduated from the University of Stirling with an honours degree in English Literature and have also taught English as a foreign language. My experience in publishing has trained me to write concisely and economically while retaining an imaginative grasp on a piece of work, a skill invaluable in writing essays and examination answers; and especially useful in assisting students with the new written assessments that, in Higher English, from 2016, comprise 30 per cent of the final examination mark.

I can empathise with students who are tussling with English, relish improving a person's understanding and enjoyment of the subject and take satisfaction from helping to develop their abilities not only in the practical sense of improving their powers of analysis and understanding of texts but in helping them think imaginatively and creatively. As a personal tutor, I have a proven record of upgrading students' performances, especially at Higher level, and have, in several instances, improved so dramatically pupils who were on course to fail Higher English that they went on to achieve an 'A' grade in their Higher examination.

Teaching Experience:

I have five years' tutoring experience. In 2012, 65 per cent of my tutees for Higher English achieved an 'A' grade, with several Band 1s among them. In the 2013 Higher English examination, 75 per cent of my tutees obtained either an A or a B, with slightly more than half of those obtaining an A and several obtaining a distinction in doing so. In 2012 and 2013, all of my tutees at Standard Grade achieved either a band 1 or a Band 2. Similarly, in 2014, all National 5 students achieved an A or a B. At Higher, in 2014, 85 per cent of tutees achieved an A or a B, with the remainder, several of whom had been struggling severely, delighted to have achieved a pass. In 2015, 85 per cent of my tutees achieved an A in their Higher, Sixth Year Studies and National 5 examinations. The other 15 per cent achieved a B.

With my help, tutees have obtained the vital English qualification that was essential to them obtaining a place at such universities as: Cambridge, Oxford, Aberdeen, Dundee, St Andrews, Heriot-Watt, Edinburgh, Stirling, Strathclyde, Glasgow and the Glasgow College of Art.

I also have experience teaching English as a Foreign Language, in Egypt, both in private schools and in tutoring young people on an individual basis.

In publishing, I was frequently chosen to tutor new entrants to the profession because of my precise use of language and empathetic nature on a one-to-one level.

I studied English Literature to honours level at the University of Stirling and aim to pass on my love of the subject to students through establishing a rapport with them and recommending to them the type of literature that would complement their learning and enable them to derive pleasure from studying English.

Tutoring Approach:

On first meeting, I will discuss with the student how they wish to improve and which aspects of their English studies they feel require greatest attention. I will adapt tutorials to suit the student's needs and course of study. Additional exercises and study guides will be developed together, so that the student can participate with enthusiasm and purpose in the tutorials. This allows me to work to the student's strengths, to help them manage their problem areas more effectively and to derive greater enjoyment from the subject. I will adopt a measured approach and will use my communication skills to ensure that the student understands and absorbs each aspect of the lesson before progressing to the next stage. I aim to make lessons pleasurable and fun as a means of making learning easier, enjoyable and more memorable.

Personal Description:
I am graduate of the University of Liverpool and of the Open University, and in addition hold a Post Graduate Certificate of Education.

Although English is my principal focus, I have a wide range of interest, including among other things history, fell-walking, football, tennis and Latin.

Publications:
3 sets of GCSE materials
The Medieval Boy Bishops
Richard III: The King in the Car Park
The "Twins" series of children's novels
The "Kit" series of children's novels

I am happy to tutor in your home.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught English and English Literature for over 25 years in both state and independent schools to a wide range of pupils, from the very high achieving to the less able.

At A level I have taught English Literature, English Language, and English Language/Literature.

I have been Head of English for 18 years in two schools (one of which has been one of most successful comprehensive schools in the country) for a number of years. My departments have always been the most successful or among the most successful departments.

My teaching career has involved teaching and tutoring pupils and students of all ages and abilities from year 3 to degree level.

Over a period of three years three of my pupils - from over 350,000 candidates in each year - were awarded the highest marks in the AQA GCSE English and Literature examinations, .

My department received an award for the highest performing A level girls nationally.

My GCSE results for have been consistently better than predictions by between a half a grade and a grade.

I have had similar success with A level.

My classes' National Curriculum levels are usually a level or more better than predictions.

I have successfully coached primary age pupils for entry to public schools and selective state schools.

Tutoring Approach:

Since every student is an individual with their own range of skills and knowledge, I tailor my teaching to their needs. Accordingly, I select from a range of traditional and more informal methods to suit the individual.

The following are some of the areas where different students often require help, although the list is by no means exhaustive:

At Key Stages 2 and 3:

spelling, punctuation, grammar
comprehension, including answering written questions
creativity, including writing descriptions, narratives and poetry
writing skills, including sustaining a coherent, interesting style.

At GCSE:

responding to more complex comprehension questions
writing detailed essays developing use of evidence and discussion
understanding and responding to set texts, including essay responses
techniques for oral work.

At A Level:

Understanding and responding to texts
Analysing spoken and written English
Writing polished, detailed, fluent essays

Working in Groups:

Although I usually work with individuals, it can be more cost-effective if you are able to put together two or more students to work side-by-side.

Personal Description:
I graduated from University in 2011 ,with a 2.1 in English and Creative Writing. I am currently working for a large online newspaper. I tutor in my free time as I enjoy helping others and I like to put my English degree to good use! A diary given to me as a young girl triggered my fixation with writing and my obsession with words. The teenage years were spent writing short stories, channeling emotions and energy into poetry, plays, prose. As I matured I began to visualise myself as a writer, realising there is no greater gift than to be able to write in such a way that inspires, engages or even educates a reader. I have recently had poetry published and have just started writing a book.

Teaching Experience:

My tutoring career started four years ago. I began assisting a college student with her personal statement (a highly important document needed to support her university application) the feedback I received from her family spurred me to consider helping other students with all aspects of English. I continue to tutor several other students, devising and executing a range of ideas for their coursework topics, believing in their ability and helping them obtain the grades they desire. I also offer a list of exam tips and hints (from my own experience) and usually mark work from students before our next session, providing constant feedback. My degree allows me to cover a vast range of literature and I am confident I can help, encourage and assist students with their studies. I now have helped four students go UP two grades after just a few hours teaching, I believe this progress highlights my teaching ability. Positive results such as this make private tuition thoroughly enjoyable and give me a real sense of pride that our sessions are paying off, the student is progressing and that one on one sessions really are helpful to anyone struggling with a particular subject.

During my last year at school,I was selected to assist the younger students with their essay writing and general understanding of the English language. I recently returned to my old school that I left six years ago and hosted an assembly to 200 hundred students and shared my poetry with them and taught them about the art of poetry and importance of creativity.

I have recently started tutoring a mature university student. I meet regularly with this student and assist her with essay planning, brainstorming, further reading and together we devise and execute a range of ideas in order to support her coursework and overall understanding of good grammar and well structured essay writing.

All students I have tutored in the last two years have improved by at least one grade. Three students have jumped up two grades and one student has improved by three grades.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe a one on one relationship is highly beneficial to the student. Our sessions will be fruitful, comfortable and hopefully equally as fun as they are educational. With GCSE students I familiarise them with the texts they are studying and instill confidence and belief in them. I also set them numerous writing tasks and provide them with new tips and hints for the exams which are an invaluable source of information. I am able to relate to the students as I am young and although I am there to teach, I also believe it is important the student regards me as a friend, someone they can ask anything and not an intimidating authoritative figure.

The aim is to work on the students weaknesses during each session, tackling any problems from all angles in order for the student to progress and develop their English. The learning environment will be positive and as a tutor I consider myself to be highly patient and totally approachable. It is greatly rewarding to witness each student develop their skills and reach their full potential, thus achieving the grades desired. I use mock papers, mini progress tests and numerous other resources to assist my tutoring approach.

Before starting tuition, I request written work already completed by the student, examples of past coursework and essays are always useful to determine current skills, and provide an insight into the students current level and standard of English. I then devise a course of study, taking into account any upcoming exams/ coursework deadlines etc. I devote a minimum of one to two hours preparation time for every hour spent in tuition sessions. I always inform parents of the students progress and from the beginning I make it clear that I am available by email all through the week, for the students to email me with questions or for additional help.

Personal Description:
Based in York, I'm an obsessive photographer, specialising in weddings and landscape, but covering a wide range of photographic projects, including commercial assignments, stock photos, and fashion.

Teaching Experience:

I have tought IT and photography for many years. My aim is to provide those new to photography with the basic skills and understanding they need in order to take control, and start creating images, rather than taking snapshots.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a naturally informal and friendly stlye (essential for good wedding photography!). Group sessions are limited to just 4 (some workshops have 10 or more). This allows for a great deal of hands on support.

Personal Description:
I am a fourth year medical student at Imperial College London. Having recently been through high school and excelled in both GCSEs and A-levels, I know what it requires for a student to perform to the best of their ability. I am a strong believer that with hard work and the right guidance, most students can go on to achieve excellent grades.

Teaching Experience:

During my A-levels, I have helped teach younger students in Geography and Maths classes, but the majority of my teaching experience has been with my two younger brothers. I have worked very hard with them over the years and take pride in the fact that they too performed exceptionally well at school through my help.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to make my lessons interactive, explaining complex ideas in the simplest and most interesting way possible. I strongly believe that student must first develop a good conceptual understanding of the subject before refining their exam technique. I will work hard for my students and expect them to do the same in their studies.

Personal Description:
Hello, I'm Jonathan, and am currently in my second year of a MEng undergraduate degree in Material Science and Engineering at Imperial College London. I am an approachable and dependable 19 year old with an open mind. Having been assigned a number of positions within my university and school, such as being a prefect and mentor, I have the skills and flexibility to adapt to any situation.
I have also participated in a wider range of activities, both within the STEM subjects and beyond. I was team leader of my school's Engineering Education Scheme project, where we worked with a company to create an 'Ultra Low cost UAV'. I am also an Arkwright Scholar and have completed by Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award through my local Air Cadet squadron. Outside of studies, I play rugby for the university 2nd XV, swim and I also lifeguard the local pool.

I will be available from January 2015 onwards (except on specific dates (contact me for more details))

Teaching Experience:

For two years, I tutored a boy in KS2 Mathematics, English and Verbal Reasoning every weekend to teach him key ideas in these subjects. Within school, I am a mathematics and physics prefect and so help struggling students and I was also a mentor for a younger student (Year 7), which involved supervising his studying, to improve his work ethic and grades.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in a tailored and refined approach, where the strengths of a student should be stretched and challenged beyond the core syllabus, but to also spend and dedicate more time on the harder areas where students struggle, so that they can get as much exposure to types of questions asked in the exam as possible. A proper understanding of concepts is needed before progress can be made and an alternative way of explaining ideas, from a younger mind, may help some of the ideas sink in more.
Moreover, students learn in different ways, whether it be through colors, diagrams or notes and a tailored experience should be delivered to each student to ensure that they get the teaching that suits and benefits them.

Personal Description:
I am hard working teacher, who has worked at a number of different teaching establishments. I am a friendly, reliable individual, who strives to get the best out of students.
I enjoy exercising, spending time with my family and friends and I run a netball league for local girls wanting to get fit. I am organised, flexible and have experience of one to one tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach A-Level and GCSE Sociology at Garforth Academy. I also teach Social Policy, Health and Social Care and Equality there. I have worked for OCR and have marked students A-level exam papers over the summer period. This hasn't given me great insight into what examiners look for when marking exam papers.

Previous to this, throughout my teacher training I taught at Minsthorpe Academy, Leeds City College and Doncaster College where I taught on the Access and A-level courses.

I have experience of tutoring A-level sociology students including helping a student achieve a C at A-level when her grade was a predicted U. I also have experience of tutoring undergraduate learners ensuring they know how to reference and write academically.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a calm focused individual when tutoring and understand that a key part of it, is to develop a working relationship to ensure the learner feels comfortable. I understand the learner wants to achieve the best possible grade and through planned, structured sessions this will be achieved. I am available to tutor online and have done this a number of times with learners at both A-level and undergraduate level. I am a patient tutor and have the ability to adapt my teaching strategies to ensure the learner is fully supported.

Part of my tutoring rate includes planning sessions and travel expenses. I am flexible in my tutoring and I'm available most evenings or weekends.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic and creative tutor and I love to think outside of the box to get the best from my students. I work hard and I don't give up easily. I am a passionate teacher and I thrive on getting the best from my students.
Outside of teaching I also teach young people how to fly through the Air Cadet Organisation. I have a degree from the Open University and a PGCE in Geography from Edge Hill University.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching now for 5 years. I have had experience in a range of subjects including Geography (my main subject), RE, History, Art, Photography, Textiles, Food Technology and English. I have taught a range of abilities and ages and have also tutored in a number of subjects.
My most recent teaching experience is as follows:
KS3 Geography and History
KS4 Geography
KS5 - AS and A Level Geography
KS5 - IB Geography
KS5 BTEC Travel and Tourism Level 3

Tutoring Approach:

I like to make tutoring fun and creative. I like to try a range of approaches, as every student is different and everyone thinks in a different way. I firstly like to see where we are starting from - so that we are both on the same page that way we can move forward at a pace which is suitable for the student - being tutored can be overwhelming, it is important from day 1 that we can make good progress without being overwhelmed.
I believe that every student can do well - with the right guidance.
