Personal Description:
I graduated in 2011 with a degree in Classics at Cambridge University as a mature student. I am passionate about Latin and Greek and Ancient History. I have also attended a courses in New Testament Greek at the University of Cambridge's Institute of Continuing Learning.

I learned Latin and Greek at school up to O' Level but a few years ago I decided that I could no longer do without any Classics in my life and began to study at degree level, first with the Open University where I gained a Dip Class and subsequently at Cambridge University.

Teaching Experience:

In my previous career one of my positions was as a Staff Training Officer with the Department of Employment where I trained adults in job related skills. Most recently I managed a counselling and advice centre in the voluntary sector where my counselling role involved working with young people.

I also have two teenage sons myself so I am experienced in supporting young people in home learning and exam revision.

I have current students studying Latin and Ancient Greek.

I ALSO OFFER PREPARATION FOR OXBRIDGE INTERVIEWS.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is student-centred, focusing on what their needs are whilst at the same time having a clear goal in mind. Latin and Greek inevitably involve learning grammar but I like to get students to read adapted texts as soon as possible so that there is a real sense of achievement.
&
If students are already learning Latin and Greek in another context my aim is to make sure that I support that learning. I aim to ensure that they have a good understanding of what they are learning at school (or elsewhere) by consolidating grammar and providing lots of practice which builds confidence.

Personal Description:
Nick is an Oxford English graduate who has worked as a strategy consultant and set up various businesses as an entrepreneur, including raising $5m in funding as Development Director for a military website in San Francisco, developing a 1m property portfolio in Notting Hill and the Alps and providing financial backing for the first two albums by a singer-songwriter from Brisbane, who has now won record deals with Sony and EMI and released a number one single in Greece. In his spare time, he loves playing golf, skiing and dancing:
- He helped win the southern and national team ballroom dancing championships for Oxford University and won a Half Blue for being on the winning team in the Varsity match.
- He spent four ski seasons in Mribel and Val d'Isre and lived in Lyon, where he learned to speak French fluently with the aid of a French girlfriend.
- He also spent 18 months in Brisbane, where he became a scratch golfer, and now coaches privately and at City Golf in London.

Teaching Experience:

He has had over a hundred clients aged between six and 46 whom he teaches English, French, Maths, essay-writing and information technology. He also coaches various sports to friends and colleagues in his spare time, including golf, sailing, ballroom and Latin dancing.

Tutoring Approach:

Nick is based in London but is happy to teach in person at a mutually convenient location and/or give help and advice over the phone or by email. For example, after his golf lessons, he sends his clients email summaries of the points covered during the lessons. Clients have told him he is very patient, and his lessons have been very helpful.

"Thank you so much for your help! And thank you so much for letting me send you my draft and read over it!! I'm a bit clumsy with my sentences, so you reading it will be a great help!!

"You really have helped me in grasping the concept of this essay question and what to include!"

Personal Description:
My students say that they feel comfortable working with me as I am friendly and open, and they also appreciate my clear explanations of difficult concepts.

I have just submitted a PhD at Goldsmiths, University of London, one of the top sociology departments in the country, so I am up to date with the latest developments in the discipline.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently teaching undergraduates at Cambridge University and Goldsmiths, University of London, as well as tutoring A level students. In the past I have taught piano one to one, and also trained as an English language teacher and worked abroad teaching English. My broad range of teaching experience means that I will find an approach which suits you as an individual.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to facilitate a collaboration between tutor and student. This means that I encourage the student to express ideas verbally during lessons as much as possible. This allows the student to process knowledge and also allows me to see clearly what they have understood and what we still need to work on. I also see a positive approach to tutoring as important, so I will tell my students all the things they are doing well as well as focusing on specific, achievable goals they can improve on.

I specialise in helping students with writing, which is a crucially important skill for sociology students. It's important to spend time developing writing skills as not are they necessary to get top grades in exams, but they will also carry you through university and many other situations in life.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught students aged between 12 and 80 from over 50 countries around the world. I have taught many different levels of German from ABC courses for students who could not read or write, up to advanced business courses.

As part of one of my roles I was involved with the German Immigration Ministry, which included providing courses and exams to people who wanted to live in Germany.

Tutoring Approach:

I have been teaching languages for over 16 years now and I have lived and breathed the German culture for many years. This allows me to give students a real insight into the way of German life. I can use many real world examples in the way I deliver the course material, to help students better understand what is being taught to them.

Personal Description:
I'm a 22 year-old classics student on sabbatical from Oxford University. Besides Latin and Greek, I'm most keen to teach English, which I love.

I left Hampton School in 2009 with 5 A*s and 4 A's at GCSE and 4 A's at A-Level (this was before the A* grade was introduced). I will receive my bachelor's degree in the summer of 2016 and am predicted a First.

Teaching Experience:

I assisted teaching 11-13 year-olds during the Sixth Form. I would usually help children individually but I led the occasional class myself.

Since September 2012 I have been tutoring GCSE students in Latin, English Literature, and English as a foreign language.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to teach you the Oxford way: begin with a read aloud of a text, or ask for a brief summary of the topic studied for homework, and then discussion. My aim is to impart not only factual knowledge - the what - as understanding - the why. But if your son or daughter understands the blunt fact of Shakespeare's iambic pentameter or Virgil's dactylic hexameter, then specific examples its effective use will come and stay all the easier. I'm particularly good (if I say so myself) at teaching the prescriptive stuff, like metre and grammar, rigourously without being boring.

Still a student myself, I value patience, kindness and humour in my teachers, and I set these at the core of my teaching.

Personal Description:
Having taken some time off from my career in order to raise my young family, I recently completed a period of updating to refresh my skills and am now eager to return to teaching. I am a graduate of Imperial College, London and an Associate of the Royal College of Science.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully qualified physics teacher with maths as a second subject. I have experience of delivering the National Curriculum to Key Stage Three, Four and Five. I have consistently helped my pupils to achieve excellent exam grades. I am up-to-date with current teaching methods and curriculum content. I have also had experience teaching English as a Foreign Language, including two years working in Japanese elementary and Junior High Schools as an Assistant English Teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that all students can, with the right kind of encouragement and motivation, succeed in physics and maths. I work hard to build up pupils' confidence by helping them to gain a more detailed and accurate understanding of the topics covered. I believe in a child-centred approach to education and use 'assessment for learning' techniques to teach students how to achieve and to recognise their own success.

Personal Description:
My name is Laura, I am a 31 year old resting professional actress. I have two young daughters who will be attending school full-time in September 2013 and so I am eager to once more put my talents to good use.

I am a published poet, I write plays and screen plays also and am currently one of the Student ambassadors for the Royal Opera House as in my spare time I also study for a degree in English Literature and Language; my other passion apart from acting.

I also enjoy baking and regularly make decorative cakes and homemade treats.

Teaching Experience:

I have coached many people using drama to build confidence, to audition for drama school or even for help with public speaking, including the difficult task of speaking at funerals.

My experience includes extensive workshops and drama sessions with children from the ages of 4-18 on issues such as arson, road safety and bullying, with the support of the relevant county's emergency services. I have worked freelance as an improvisation, voice/speech and script tutor at the much acclaimed drama school, The Actor Works, in Wapping, home to the annual OffCut festival.

Apart from my drama and theatre tutelage, I have helped many young people, including many 16-18 year olds with coursework, exam preparation, text and poetry analysis and building confidence in their ability to use the English language.

Tutoring Approach:

I am easy to get on with, however you will get homework and I expect as much determination and commitment to me and our sessions as I will give to you. We will write a plan together in the first session and regularly review it to make sure we are on track.

Whatever the goal, be it confidence building, exam preparation, full on performance, or just for fun, I will help you achieve it.

Personal Description:
I am a young full time, female PE teacher who has a 2.1 BA (Hons) degree in Sport and Social Science from the University of Bath. I qualified as a PE teacher for 11-18 years and completed my PGCE through the University of East Anglia. I also have a Masters Degree in Advanced Educational Practice; also achieved through the University of East Anglia. I love my job and particularly enjoy the theory aspects of PE.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience extends across 3 secondary schools. These include 2 local high schools in Suffolk as well as an extremely successful all girls grammar school in Southend. Currently I work in a large 11-18 school just outside of Ipswich. I am consistently judged as an outstanding teacher and am passionate about teaching and learning as well as my subject of PE. I am familiar with different exam boards and have privately tutored for about 6 months.

Tutoring Approach:

As an adaptable teacher I will adapt my tutoring to suit the needs of the pupil. My experience suggests however that the most effective, and preferential approach is to teach pupils aspects of their course through explanation, structured questioning, past exam questions and application as a written task and/or as a discussion. Essentially I aim to install self-assurance and knowledge into pupils so they feel able to answer all exam questions with confidence and correctly.

Please contact me to discuss additional mileage costs if you would prefer me to travel to you. Essentially I charge an additional 0.45p per mile from IP17. However, depending on the time of the session (particularly weekday evenings) this may instead be from IP5.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified Italian Teacher and I have recently completed my teacher training at the Italian Cultural Institute in London.

I have always been interested in other cultures, languages and countries that's the reason why I have decided to take my graduation in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation, studying French, English and Arabic.

I think that my enthusiasm in teaching Italian comes from the love for my country and the need to spread the main sides of our beautiful culture to people from different part of the world.

Teaching Experience:

I used to give Italian private lessons since 2007 to foreigners students, after a couple of years I've been a teaching assistant in a primary school in Italy and in October I took the Italian CELTA (Teaching Italian as a Foreign Language) at the Italian Cultural Institute in London where I spent 6 hours teaching Italian to adults.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching approach is based on an inductive method which starts with examples and asks students to find the rules.
The student during each lesson has to be actively involved in the process of learning through the use of authentic sources like songs, audio, video, games, etc.. in order to enjoy himself while learning.
