Personal Description:
I am a private tutor and University Lecturer at the University of Salford where I teach full time on the Physiotherapy undergraduate degree course. I have seventeen years of experience of teaching within Higher Education covering subjects such as biology, physical education, science, psychology, anatomy, physiology, research methods, study skills, and assignment writing. I completed my PhD in 2009 at the University of Central Lancashire where I undertook research in Rheumatology.

Prior to working within education I was a Chartered Physiotherapist within the NHS for 10 years at hospitals in my local area, achieving Senior I grade. During this time I assumed the role of Clinical Educator for students of Physiotherapy thus beginning my teaching career. While working within the NHS I was also the Physiotherapist to the England Women's football team for three years. This was a unique and memorable experience and I was immensely proud to represent my country, working with such talented individuals both at home and during tours of countries including France, Denmark, Italy, Iceland, Bulgaria, and the Soviet Union.

I am an internationally published author, having written and edited seven books which have been translated into ten languages, covering subjects as diverse as anatomy, assignment writing, study skills and health studies.

As part of my teaching I am have been an external examiner at the Universities of East London and Bradford on their undergraduate and postgraduate courses. This role includes monitoring marking quality, exam board actions and modifications to syllabus and teaching and learning consultancy.

I began working as a private tutor four years ago. This role gives me the freedom to get to know students on an individual basis and adapt to suit their needs and offers an incredible amount of job satisfaction.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring privately for several years now, and I am now an assessor and marker for A levels and one of the earliest members of the Tutors Association. I began teaching in a professional capacity whilst working in a hospital environment where I became a Clinical Educator for undergraduate Physiotherapy students from Universities in the region. This role involved teaching and training undergraduate students within hospitals. Eventually my enthusiasm for teaching overtook that of my day job and I began teaching at Salford University on a part time basis, becoming a full time member of staff within the School of Health Sciences in 1996. I am the longest serving member of staff in the department and enjoy my job, and the interaction with students, as much now as when I first began teaching. Please note that if you are a student at the University of Salford i will be unable to offer private tuition due to a conflict of interest.

Teaching at a university entails a range of teaching methods including lecturing to hundreds of students, small and large group seminar-based sessions and a mix of theory and practical skills. Since 1998 I have been the Year One tutor which involves a pastoral element as many students are having their first experience of independence away from friends and family.

As a private tutor both in my own home and in the tutees home I mainly focus on one to one tuition which I find hugely rewarding as I am able to dedicate unwavering attention to the tutee and their chosen subjects. I have experience of teaching students from diverse backgrounds and ranging in age from 14 years to 50 years.

In 2009 I won the first ever Teaching Excellence Award at Salford University, and the following year was nominated for the Times Educational Innovative Teacher Award - both nominated by my students, a fact of which I am extremely proud.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a friendly and informal approach to teaching as I believe a relaxed environment is most conducive to learning regardless of subject or age.

I usually teach on a one to one basis for all age groups and am familiar with the syllabus for OCR, AQA and EDEXCEL for G.C.S.E., A' level and degree. The first session will include an informal discussion with parents/tutee to gain an understanding of the tutees requirements and to explain my role and how I can aid learning.
The structure of the sessions are largely dictated by the tutee, the subjects they wish to focus on and their preferred learning style and this can be discussed at the first session. As the student develops, the structure can be adapted in line with this.

Additional Information

While I prefer to teach in my own home under certain circumstances I may be able to travel to the student. This will be subject to the inclusion of travelling costs in addition to the tuition fee. This will be undertaken by prior arrangement; please indicate your requirements on initial contact.

I am also able to offer the additional educational services:

literature searching
proof reading
essay planning
essay structuring

As I work full time I will require notice to complete any of these tasks and I am unable to write complete assignments as this would be unethical.

Thanks very much for viewing my profile.

Personal Description:
I am friendly, straightforward, encouraging and positive. I am a retired teacher, a non-smoker and a car driver. I have no pets, although I am fond of animals. I retain many links with France, having spent many years there and have a keen interest in French cinema and literature.

Teaching Experience:

I am a highly experienced teacher having taught English in France and French in the UK for many years. I am a fluent French speaker, as I spent 16 years living in France and working not only as an English teacher to all age groups but also in commerce and industry and this has given me a thorough knowledge of all aspects of the language. I have taught French in the UK to all age groups but mainly in schools where I taught pupils from Year 1 to Year 11. I have taught English and humanities at primary level which I greatly enjoyed. I also hold a degree in law.

Tutoring Approach:

I hope your lessons with me will be enjoyable and fulfilling. I always maintain a positive outlook and encourage and stretch my students, helping them to achieve their potential, whatever their age, level or difficulties. I aim to make successful learning available to my students using both traditional methods and modern technology and, where appropriate, games, role plays, drama and music.

Personal Description:
I am a father of three children, two of whom have finished university and one about to start.
I've been married for 32 years - to the same lady!
My original degree was in Civil Engineering which I did for 25 years, then I requalified as a Primary teacher about 10 years ago.
I do a lot of singing and have competed internationally for years - I am also the Musical Director of a choir.
About 10 years go, I built my own house - I'm just about to finish the garden!
Retirement approaches as a teacher, but I'm not ready to stop.

Teaching Experience:

I completed the Graduate (Teacher) Training Program 10 years ago and up until December 2012 I worked in a Special Needs School ever since, specialising in autism and learning disability.
I used to run a small class of students who required constant 1 to 1 support, and I mostly delivered the Primary Curriculum.
I now work for Nottingham City Council in the Inclusive Education Service as an Autism Team Teacher, delivering specialist support and training to mainstream teachers in both primary and secondary settings.

Tutoring Approach:

My first task is to build a relationship with my student whereby they (and their parents) know they can trust me and we can work together in a relaxed atmosphere.
I use an online software package to deliver, assess and report progress, and it covers literacy, numeracy and science up to Year 6. This package is ideal for both primary mainstream and older special needs students , and can include homework tasks where appropriate.
Ideally, I would prefer to work face-to-face with my students, either at their home or mine, but this is not absolutely necessary in these days of Skype. Probably some sort of mix of delivery is not a bad idea.
My purpose is to help students achieve their full potential - whatever that may be. Sometimes this will simply involve unlocking a few doors, sometimes it may contribute positively to exams - it all depends upon the individual.

Personal Description:
My Name is Billy and i am currently studying for a BA in Politics and East European Studies at University College London. I am fresh out of school and still have all the vital knowledge and exam technique that is still relevent to todays GCSE and A-levels. I am friendly and willing to work with all abilities, i am very much looking forward to helping others maximize their potential and improving their final grade. I gained 6 A stars and 6 A grades at GCSE, while gaining 2 A and 2 B grades at A level.

Teaching Experience:

I have so far helped family and friends, to a great deal of success. Before this summers exams, i helped a friend turn around his predicted D in economics to a very high B (78%). I was active in my school, tutoring struggling GCSE french and maths students who were at a loss or alienated from teachers. Often, getting help from someone who has recently gone through the same exam is the most valuable tool to any student. I found older students to be far more useful than teachers, older student experience is what i aim to provide.

Tutoring Approach:

With public exams, its not what you know but how you know it. I will aim to provide hands on exam technique with the use of real past questions and examples, starting from the basic right through to the most difficult and nuanced problems. In this way i aim to add one grade higher grade at the very least to a tutees prediction.

Personal Description:
I am a freelance illustrator and serial volunteer. I enjoy critical analysis, archery and thinking. Highest qualification is Diploma of Higher Education in animation & illustration. 12 GCSEs, 3 A Levels, Foundation degree in Art. Currently a charity shop bookseller.

Teaching Experience:

I have provided classroom, kitchen and field trip support for primary school children of all ages over the years. I have been a hands-on lunchtime supervisor for reception class and worked closely with struggling children in years four and five, for both general classwork and in reading and writing. I have successfully liaised with children unhappy with treatment from their teachers. I have led workshops and one-to-one coaching with ages 11-14 in art/english and sport (archery). I am comfortable working with children with learning disabilities and autism.

Tutoring Approach:

Despite an aptitude for learning I did not have an enjoyable classroom experience - I am able to use the memory of my discomfort to create an understanding and personal environment for learning support. Having earned myself a rounded understanding of where a rejection of schoolwork leads I'm keen to use my skills to help children and young people find a more comfortable path through their education.
