Personal Description:
I am a committed teacher who loves teaching across many areas. I enjoying injecting my creative streak into lessons. I have qualified teacher status and I teach in schools on a day to basis.

Teaching Experience:

I have 6 years teaching experience across many age ranges. I have recently undertaken Read, Write, Inc training - a programme geared towards developing readers and writers.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe children need to learn with a hands on approach, when they are doing they are learning.

Want to help your child move from a 2c to a 2b or a 1b to a 1a? Sometimes all it takes is a little bit of extra help that the teacher can't always give. Maybe your child is doing well in school and you feel they are restricted by the curriculum.

Lessons are tailored to each students needs, reading, numeracy and literacy are covered using structured schemes and fun activities. The lessons are not restricted by the curriculum so your child could be learning things they wouldn't learn until the next academic year or catching up on concepts not yet grasped. Homework can also be set.

I have recently begun writing guided reading books designed to improve writing by identifying and practising the core elements (Riley's Writers - available on Amazon) as well as creating resource games so children can practise key skills in a fun way that promotes repetition (essential for learning many aspects of literacy and numeracy).

All learning takes place in my home. Slots are available weekdays, evenings, weekends and school holidays. Sessions are 45 minutes long.

Personal Description:
Having been born in London I am a native speaker of the English language. I have vast experience with speakers of other languages. I recently decided to make a career change and make teaching English to speakers of other language a professional career. I am CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) qualified. I am also two years into BA (hons) English Language and Literature degree and intend to continue my own personal development by studying for an MA English Language Teaching and Linguistics and by completing the DELTA (Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) as soon as I am eligible.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught to classes of between six and eighteen students whilst training for the CELTA qualification. The students came from a variety of countries including: France, Italy, Turkey, South Korea, Spain, Chile, Colombia, Russia and Poland. I have taught many more personal one-to-one lessons, mainly within the South American community.

Tutoring Approach:

I use a number of different course books for teaching English and try to make the whole experience as relaxed, fun and interactive as possible. This is easier with larger numbers but can be achieved on a one-to-one basis with a little thought and effort. I use audio and visual materials. Each student will have a preferred method of learning and as individuals we are not usually aware of what type of learner we are, for this reason I employ a number of techniques to make the learning experience as beneficial as possible. The techniques I use are: linguistic, logical-mathematical, visual-spatial, bodily-kinaesthetic, musical, inter-personal and intra-personal.

Personal Description:
I am 23 and a qualified teacher, currently an NQT and studied English Literature at University. I can cater for all needs and abilities, as I can in the classroom.

I have always wanted to be a teacher and this has been demonstrated through my choice of work experience in year ten. I grew up with a passion for education and learning. I was educated at a state school and being of the new young generation I can relate to all of the trials and tribulations endured by youngsters having either experienced them myself or knowing someone who has. I can use my personal experiences to help and guide the students as well as empathise.

Teaching Experience:

I have just completed my PGCE (Post-Graduate Certificate in Education) at Swansea Metropolitan University and have a full-time English teaching job in Bridgend. I have had experience in both a band 5 Valley School and a Band 4 school in Bridgend, catering for all abilities.

In year 10 I had my work experience at a local primary school. I assisted the teacher during the lessons and helped them complete their work.
The children I worked with had various levels of ability so the teacher and I had to cater for the children who were learning both slower and faster than the others. I kept patient whilst working with the children and I adapted my approach so that they could understand me. I helped to organise the activities with the teacher before the lesson and helped the children to complete and understand the tasks. I supervised the children and helped them to play carefully and safely during the lunch breaks by being around them and ensuring they were behaving. These skills meant that I gained respect from the children and they trusted me to help and look after them during my work experience. From developing these key leadership skills at such a young age I was able to demonstrate them adequately through my years of working in retail, working my way up from a sales advisor to a supervisor within six months.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching style would be firm but fair.
I would help them with certain aspects of their course which they were struggling with and depending on their age I would range with help in essay writing, essay style and approaches to writing essays. I would help guide them through the reading process and close analytical reading, as well as guiding them through the essay writing process.
I would be able to expand their knowledge of the books on the course and help them complete coursework.
I am clearly a strong English student as I have always achieved high grades at school and have continued to study to degree level.
I would be able to produce results to the highest of their capability and extend their knowledge of English.

Personal Description:
I am currently a Physics Teacher working at a secondary school in Oldham.

I graduated from Leeds University with a Physics degree in 2007 and began teacher training at Huddersfield University in 2008. Since finishing my PGCE I have been working at the same school in the Oldham.

It is possible that I could tutor students living in the Oldham area on weekday evenings or weekends. I can also tutor students living around the area that I live in which is Marsden, Huddersfield. So any students in Halifax/Huddersfield that require help I can do weekday evenings or even weekends.

I tend to go to students houses to tutor as it tends to be much easier for them and their parents.

Teaching Experience:

I am a relatively experienced Teacher in my fourth year of work. I teach Physics up to GCSE and A-Level standard at a school in Oldham, where I am currently the Physics subject specialist.

Tutoring Approach:

I will generally tutor students by going over a topic first, seeing what they know/don't know and allow them to ask and answer questions as we go along. I will then set tasks/questions to try and check understanding of the topic. This could happen in tutoring time or more likely as extra work to complete before the next tutoring session.

With exams approaching the focus turns to looking at past paper exam questions more regularly. This ensures that the knowledge the student will have gained is tested, along with improving their exam technique and becoming more familiar with the style of questions they will be tested on

Personal Description:
I am nineteen years of age and am currently studying English Language and Literature at Oxford University. Alongside this, I enjoy a growing musical career as an operatic soprano, as well as undertaking freelance writing work. Now living between my home in Somerset and my college at Oxford, I enjoy sports such as horse riding, hill walking and kayaking, and love spending time with my four pre-teen nephews and nieces, of whom I have fond memories of helping learn to read.

Teaching Experience:

- Head of my college's Literary Society, which involved leading sessions and being solely responsible for the education of my peer group on a variety of topics
- I teach singing in my spare time
- As there were many foreign students in my previous college, I have often (and still do) help proofread their work for readability and help correct them to more natural-sounding English
- I traveled to Sierra Leone in 2010 to teach voice in the country's one music academy

Tutoring Approach:

When I was at school, I was lucky enough to be surrounded by a friendship group who loved learning, loved school and were ambitious in their university dreams; however, many young people are not so lucky to have such an inspiring peer group. As a tutor, I make it my first priority to be enthusiastic, fun and dynamic about my subjects, as learning can never take place in a dull environment where the pupil feels little or no interest.

Personal Description:
Hello there! My name is Tanyel and I am an undergraduate student at King's College London. I study BA French and Management and will be entering my second year in September.

I am available to tutor over the summer 2013 starting immediately, with a possibility of continuing this for when I am back at university.

Teaching Experience:

I have a wide range of tutoring experience. This originated from when I was in Sixth Form and developed a knack for explaining things to my classmates and friends. Since then, my enjoyment in tutoring has led me to be involved in two tutoring projects. This is both privately in my local area and also voluntarily, the latter being with my university and an organisation called Team Up ().

Tutoring Approach:

We would work through a main textbook (CGP range seems to work best) and I provide explanations in a clearer, more interactive manner to clarify understanding. I then set homework tasks based on what we have learnt. I can connect with all my students on a friendly level in this way, pausing to answer any questions, whilst ensuring progression and focus at all times. I have seen this approach work countless times in my experience. In some cases, students enjoy it so much they ask me to set them even more homework!

Personal Description:
I'm twenty years of age and I will begin my third year reading English at the University of Cambridge early in October. I'm enthusiastic about tutoring because I've experienced first hand the potential to inspire young people to success through encouragement and the fostering of ability; my own English teacher was the reason that I became interested in English literature and eventually went on to study it at Cambridge. But more than this I feel that the subjects I have a knowledge of (as listed below) have made very positive impressions upon my personality, being deeply rooted in culture, ethics, responsibility and rights. I really believe in my subjects and I want to pass that passion on to young people.

To dispel any concern about my background, I am from a low-income, single-parent household. My two years at Cambridge has introduced me to very high level academia and to peers who had a better education (at least on paper) than I did. My experiences of comprehensive school education and world-class university have shaped me into a person who is able to engage with anyone from any background, and I really believe in helping people from Stoke-on-Trent and the Midlands more generally to reach upper-level institutions, in which they are vastly under-represented.

Teaching Experience:

I have very little teaching experience and I will in no way disguise that from you. My only formal role as a tutor was during high school and some of VI form, in which I tutored 11-15 year old children in reading once per week.

I would like to take this opportunity to stress that I have no formal qualifications in teaching and that I will only be available until early October; my sessions would be, in this case, catered toward short-term goals which could be achieved before this time.

Tutoring Approach:

Having no previous experience, my approach would be somewhat experimental, immersive and very much catered to the individual involved.

My view, from experience, is that instilling enthusiasm in the tutee is of paramount importance. Learning by rote or by simply forcing information into someone's head does not tend to engage their creative energies in the writing of an essay, for example. As such, I would hope to take up an approach which is both expansive and thorough in its appreciation of the material at hand; but also effectively explore the curriculum and mark-schemes for the examination(s) in order to achieve effective deployment of the material.

Some samples of how I might teach runs as follows:

-- English --

[Assuming we are working with, say, Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men]

The main bulk of teaching would involve and in-depth exploration of:

- The novel's historical and cultural significance;
- Possible film productions, and how the difference in media has affected reception and portrayal of the story;
- Themes running within the texture of the language: their metaphorical and symbolic significance;
- Reading aloud extracts of the novel to feel the characters and their dialogue rather than confining them to silent reading;
- Creative representations of the plot, its characters and the importance of the work more generally.

In teaching these elements the mark-scheme will have largely been fulfilled from a material perspective. Overlooked elements of the mark-scheme and notes from examiners reports can often unlock the higher grade boundaries for students who are able but simply do not know that they have to include these elements in an essay. These may include:

- A thoughtful, relevant personal response to the work;
- Use of specific types of language, punctuation and grammar according to the level of the examination;
- Producing 'flair' in essay writing;
- Structuring a well-written essay;
- Spelling, vocabulary;
- A focussed response.

These are all requirements which can be trained in a tutee, and are relatively easy to attain through practice and with the right kind of material to deploy. What I propose is holistic and engaging, as well as being designed with a view to developing written technique to access the higher areas of the mark scheme.

This example is largely catered toward GCSE tutoring for English Literature; but I am flexible in the range of subjects that I have knowledge of and in the level of teaching which is require according to the ability of the tutee. My only request is that, should you be interested in having me provide tutoring services, you allow me some time and plenty of information to work with in order to get to know the student and his/her capabilities. I am a fast reader and a quick learner, so most subjects within my remit should be applicable.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly, organized, hardworking, and dedicated 21 year old Second Year Undergraduate student from London, UK, studying Engineering and Business Studies at the University of Warwick. I am proficient in my numeracy ability as I have achieved A* grades in Further Maths at A Level and in Maths at both GCSE and A Level, as well as a Merit grade in the 'Advanced Extension Award' in Maths. I have also received the Bronze and Silver awards in the annual 'National Cipher Challenge' organised by the University of Southampton.
Maths is a great interest of mine and I take pride in the success of my tutees. I look forward to hearing from you.

Teaching Experience:

I started out by taking part in a 2 year mentoring program in my school where I was assigned to special needs students to guide them through their studies during class as well as homework. I have also done private tutorial sessions with GCSE and A Level students in which many of them have achieved higher grades than aimed for.
In addition, I have achieved Level 2 in the 'Community Sports Leadership Award' and I am currently studying the 'Introduction to Secondary Teaching' module as part of my university course.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor-make the tutorial sessions to the individual's requirements and I focus on them practicing exam technique, whilst also allowing them to think for themselves to gain a better understanding of the topic. I prepare for each session with work for the tutee to progress ahead with and often set a few exercises to practice on their own for the next session. If they require any help with issues that they come across in-between sessions, I am always happy to address them over the phone and in the next scheduled meeting.
As a fellow student, I understand the satisfaction gained from successfully grasping a certain topic and achieving the targeted grade. I take great pleasure in teaching a motivated learner.

Personal Description:
I am a maths tutor living in Aberystwyth. I am a patient and capable communicator, and have a respectful and optimistic attitude to my students' abilities - but I expect effort and graft from them in return!

I hold a PhD ('13) in mathematics from Northwestern University, and a masters and undergraduate degree (1st class honours) from the University of Cambridge (Trinity College).

I am also a bridge mentor and writer, and commentator for international competitions.

Teaching Experience:

I was a teaching assistant in a wide variety of college level courses during six years of graduate school. I have tutored and volunteered in maths from elementary school level through high school to undergraduate level. I have also run maths-challenge style problem solving sessions in a group mentoring format.

Tutoring Approach:

I think that success in mathematics is all about balancing a sound understanding of the fundamentals, together with actively doing many examples. As a tutor, I can help explain the idea, and provide possible alternative ways to approach a problem; but the student needs to practice with examples, and then practice some more.

The student's confidence is also a big factor - in particular if the student finds it difficult to understand the current teaching. I like to encourage students to give mini-presentations to help build this confidence and frame their thoughts in a structured manner. It's also more fun that way.

I am French-Swiss and I am fluent in both French and English. I have recently moved to Nottingham after 6 years in Manchester.

Teaching Experience:

Although I do not have any formal French teaching experience, my French is of an exceptional level as I am a native speaker with the equivalent of French A levels obtained in a French speaking country. I would have no difficulties tutoring students in French.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe there is no substitute for learning a language from a native speaker; tutees would be immersed in a French speaking environment from the minute they walk through the door.

I will tailor each lesson to the tutee individual needs with a high emphasis on their weakest areas.

If approaching exam period, I would generally go over many past papers in order to fully train tutee to get the best grade possible.
