Personal Description:
I am a young, enthusiastic, energetic teacher and tutor with a passion for my subject. In my spare time I watch and play football, enjoy reading, hiking and watching films; on the odd occasion I like to go skiing or scuba diving. I studied A-levels before deciding to go to Durham University to study Chemistry. Once I finished my degree, I trained as a teacher at Manchester University and worked in Manchester for three years before moving down to London three years ago. I have been teaching A-level Chemistry for seven years and have experience tutoring every exam board including the IB. I am also an OCR Examiner for module F321: Atoms, Bonds and Groups.

In the Summer 2014 exams, I successfully guided the Chemistry department to their first 100% pass rate and a headline figure of 83% A-C in AS Chemistry.

In the Summer 2015 exams, the Chemistry results at Sacred Heart were one of the best in the school with 93% A*-C.

Teaching Experience:

First Post: Crompton House School (OCR): September 2009 - August 2011(Teacher of GCSE and A-level Chemistry)

Second Post: Bolton School (AQA): September 2011 - August 2012 (Teacher of GCSE and A-level Chemistry)

Current Post: Sacred Heart Catholic School (OCR): September 2012 - Present (Lead Teacher of Chemistry)

OCR Specialist Examiner for F321: September 2013 - present

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very calm, patient and relaxed person and this is reflected in my tutoring. Many students can have difficulty with Science (in particular Chemistry) and with a one on one approach can be more motivating than in a classroom environment. I have an excellent knowledge of Science and can communicate this effectively. I will take you as far as you need to go in the subject and will be efficient with your time. Past successes include two students whom increased a grade from a B to A to get onto a Medicine course

I normally tutor by focusing on key concepts and ideas, using past paper questions to highlight what the exam requirements are and help students learn to apply their knowledge. I can also tutor in a less formal way where students can bring particular questions or topics and we can discuss them and look at application and exam style questions.

Personal Description:
I studied Philosophy at the University of Cambridge, where I was awarded the Craig Taylor Prize for the best exam results in my year. I then spent a year at Harvard as a Frank Knox Fellow before completing an MPhilStud in Philosophy at Birkbeck College, University of London. I am currently a PhD student at the University of Sussex, but based in London.

My specialist areas are political philosophy, epistemology, critical theory, and Wittgenstein. I can also help with reading German philosophical texts, and issues of translation.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a tutor since 2010 and enjoy teaching all ages and levels. Most of my students have been university and A-level students, including mature students.

As well as teaching privately I have been an Associate Tutor at Birkbeck College, teaching BA seminar courses in political philosophy, ethics, and epistemology.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is always to make the subject comprehensible and engaging while challenging students to think for themselves.

Here's what some of my former students said:

'Koshka really helped me to grasp philosophy. Rather than simply training me to pass exams, she encouraged me to develop a thorough understanding of the subject, primarily through detailed reading and Socratic discussion. The tutorials aided me in achieving consistently high grades (90%+ UMS in every module), and compelled me to study philosophy at university.' (Alex, mature A-level student)'

'Koshka was very helpful and patient, and explained everything very clearly. She also provided extra reading that allowed me to gain a deeper understanding (and enjoyment) of my subject. Not only did I learn a lot from our sessions, they were also fun and interesting.' (Ruby, AS-level)

'Koshka had a very comprehensive and thorough approach to the course and was also a relatable and easy to talk to individual. Her out of lesson dedication to marking essays and then detailed run through of them was invaluable to my personal development. Finally, her extensive knowledge and passion for philosophy definitely went some way to helping me feel the same way about the subject.' (Vyshnan, A-level)

BA tutorial evaluations: 'Brilliant essay feedback. Great paper recommendations'; 'Very engaging'; 'Very good at explaining things';'Much enjoyed'.

Personal Description:
I recently completed a Masters degree in Creative Writing. I completed my undergraduate studying BA Creative Writing and English Literature with 2:1. I'm aware that English and History are complex and intriguing subjects but I firmly believe that a thorough understanding and practise of techniques will enable to provide you with a firm base for any student to succeed. I am keen, conscientious, hardworking and reliable person.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring privately for over four years and currently have twenty students.
I have worked in a high school as a English Graduate Assistant and have had exposure to lesson and administration relating to the curriculum.
I have completed a Literacy Leadership Award and I was assessed on my ability to plan and prepare a literacy activity. I had to show communication and motivational skills through delivering literacy across the curriculum. Having observed teachers, I was able to learn interesting techniques that are used to teach Key stage 3 and 4 students. From this experience, I was taught how to plan and structure a lesson i.e. the starter, an introduction, an interactive main activity and the plenary; how to use verbal and non-verbal communication successfully .These rewarding experiences encouraged me to become an English teacher in the future. I have also worked closely with my peers on A Level courses such as English and History by delivering revision sessions and presenting my ideas on literary texts, articles and academic research.
.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tuition includes a variety of techniques and strategies in order to guide and motivate the learner. I will set personalised targets with my students and their parents in order to achieve the desired results. I also intend to provide you with a personalized programme that is best suited to your individual needs. I'm very enthusiastic and try to make learning a fun experience, using different ways of learning. Also, price can be negotiated.
"She's a good listener. She tries to make people understand something in a way that makes you feel comfortable. She involved everyone in the discussion even the quiet ones and always tries to find new ways of explaining things. Revision sessions were really useful and I think the main reason was because she just loves helping other people whether it is people younger or the same age. Everyone went home feeling slightly more confident about the exam including me. She makes sure that everybody understands even if it has to be explained more than once." (Aarti, 18, student)
"Charnjit has a way of making the impossible- possible. She is patient with her students and will try her hardest to make people understand. She has a way of teaching which involves a lot of group work and a one-one session where she will answer any questions from the stupidest to the smartest. After having few sessions with her I went into my exam confidently. Most importantly, she never gives up on anyone." (Rahwa, student)
"Charnjit's teaching style is unique and possesses many qualities. She is patient and constantly checks for understanding in order to go over things if the topic is not understood straight away. She uses a variety of techniques such as group brain storming in order to get the class involved which is very effective. During our group revision sessions she used this technique which worked well as it got everybody thinking, talking and interacting which was useful when remembering theorists and certain dates. She also categorised the theorists into groups based on their research which was also helpful for revision as it broke down the amount of theorists into smaller groups which were easier to remember. In addition, Charnjit is very good at keeping the class' attention which is very important as a teacher." (Stefanie, student)

Personal Description:
I've loved Mathematics from as long as I can remember and I enjoy teaching it and tutoring others. I have studied Maths up to PhD level and so am comfortable teaching all levels of Maths. I am friendly and spend time to help my tutees understand the fundamental concepts which they need for problem solving so that they can be successful in applying this knowledge in their exams.

Teaching Experience:

I was a teaching assistant at Strathclyde University for 4 years. In that time, I lectured Mathematics to first and second year University students, organised and supervised tutorial sessions, set and marked assignments/exams and tutored students on a one-to-one basis. I have also tutored my friend's kids who were home schooled and marked work which their parents didn't have the knowledge to mark.
Also have a PGDE(S) in Mathematics and currently teaching within the new curriculum.
Been involved in secondary school teaching since 2011 and currently teach in a private school in Glasgow.

Tutoring Approach:

I find that the most effective way of mastering concepts/tricks is the hands-on approach. So I work with my tutees particularly in areas where they are weak until they have mastered the underlying concept/approach and are able to apply it on their own to similar problems. I am patient and work with you to help you use the knowledge you already have by approaching material from a different angle to what you've maybe been shown.

Personal Description:
I have lived in Colchester most of my life, and had an uncle who was a teacher; this inspiring me to become involved in education, after having worked in other occupations.
My interests include drama, photography, salsa dancing, classic cars and travel. I am also actively involved in a number of societies, including being a committee member.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring since 2003.
I am experienced in 1 to 1 tuition, and have also worked as a part time college lecturer. I currently work as a
training manager (in work based learning in transport), as well as a tutor.
I've also been involved in verifying learning material, and have worked with LAC/SEN students.
I aspire to eventually become a qualified (QTS) teacher.
I am a member of the Institute for Learning, and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.

Tutoring Approach:

I encourage students to input their own ideas and opinions into tutorials, as I feel this can help their learning process, over merely having a tutor "talking", and them "listening".
Basically, my approach to tutoring is like a "two way street", with good communication and interaction between
both parties, which in turn can make the learning experience more fulfilling for the student.
I set homework for students, (where applicable).

Teaching Experience:

Personal Description:
Hello!

I have been told that I am an inspirational and motivating teacher. I love people and am passionate about my work which I manage to incorporate into an exciting yet balanced life. When not teaching I spend my time painting, singing, swimming, reading and travelling. My fourteen year old son, Charlie, attends our nearest Steiner school in Garlinge Green where he is very happy, I am delighted to say!

Teaching Experience:

I have been to Art College and also studied the four year BA in education at Christchurch in Canterbury, qualifying in 1994. I am therefore a qualified primary school teacher. I taught in several different primary schools before taking on a position as a drama teacher in a local secondary school. ( I have always been excited about all subjects and thus very happy to teach anything and everything!)

I was Head of Art at a local prep school for seven years, a super job, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I have spent a few years teaching children with special needs which also gave me tremendous satisfaction, especially with regards to the social development of the children.

I am now working as a supply teacher as the flexibility suits my lifestyle perfectly.

Tutoring Approach:

Working with a person on a one to one basis is a luxury that has so many advantages. Unless, it has to be said, you are learning hockey skills, or something similar! Time is valuable and expensive, so, although relaxed, I am keenly aware that there is a lot of work that can be accomplished in one hour... the sense of satisfaction gained from work done, progression and obvious good results lead to a huge surge in confidence. It is my belief that it doesn't matter what area/field this is, only that it takes place, again, age is irrelevant too, five or fifty five, success is success and it makes us happy!

Personal Description:
I read English at Cambridge and graduated with honours in 2012. My specialist subject is English and I also teach History and Philosophy and Ethics as well as having experience of teaching KS3/4 Maths.

Studying English at Cambridge means that I have an excellent understanding of my specialist subject. I have a comprehensive knowledge of literature from medieval to present day - I love literature, art, and the humanities and enjoy working with tutees across different age groups to engage and inspire them in these fields. I have a good knowledge of the current curriculum and previous successful tutoring experience.

Further, I have a comprehensive knowledge of the admissions process and have experience of helping with Personal Statements, University Applications and Interview Technique.

Teaching Experience:

My experience and testimonials are as follows:

-GCSE English Literature: 20 hours of tuition. Practised analysing poetry, studied set texts (including Shakespeare), helped with essay writing technique and general spelling practise. Student was predicted a D grade and achieved an A grade. Has gone on to apply to Oxford. "Clarissa got an A - she can't believe it and she definitely couldn't have done it without you - thank you so much! I have recommended you to a number of our friends and families " (Parent of Pupil)

-GCSE English Literature: 10 hours of tuition. Studied Poetry in advance of examination (Carol Anne Duffy, Simon Armitage, poems from other cultures). Advised on revision techniques and exam techniques. Student went from B grade to A grade. "You gave me the keys to unlock so much more in poems that I've never seen before." (Pupil)

-A Level English Literature: 6 hours of tuition. General analytical techniques for unseen texts, helped with understanding of set texts and devised revision plan with students aims in mind. Confidence with unseen texts improved dramatically, student achieved A grade for this module.

-GCSE Mathematics: 6 hours of tuition. Targeted revision in the lead up to a re-take. Student achieved target (improved from C to B) "Holly's confidence has improved so much! She was at a real dead end and now she's on track and enjoying it again." (Parent of pupil)

-Seminar with a group of aspiring Oxbridge Candidates: 2 hours. Gave comprehensive advice on interview techniques for University entrance and helped with personal statements.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a determined, confident and flexible tutor. I am always ready to tailor my lessons to individual students' needs in order to achieve excellent results. My creative approach and enthusiasm for learning means that lessons are accessible and interesting. Not only do I aim to achieve better results, but I also seek to improve students all-round enjoyment of and confidence with their subject by introducing them to other texts or subjects that may cultivate their interest.

I have outstanding interpersonal skills and am extremely approachable, as a result my students are always encouraged to ask questions if they don't understand. I motivate my students by planning lessons effectively and implementing clear objectives, ensuring that they leave each lesson with a deeper understanding than when they came.

Personal Description:
I hail from Vancouver and studied English Literature at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. I currently live in South London.

I am passionate about education, and have extensive experience in English and the Arts and hope to share my passion with my students.

I am a patient and flexible teacher, and try to make the subject matter interesting and engaging. You can read more about my methods and experience below.

Teaching Experience:

Volunteer Tutoring at Kitsilano Homework Club.
I founded and ran the Kitsilano Homework Club in Vancouver, Canada. The Homework Club supported students aged 5-18 with their homework, and was aimed at students who would not be able to able to afford a tutor.

Private Academic Tutoring
I have been tutoring for several years. I have tutored mostly English and English as a Second Language students.

Art Education class
I taught children from 5-7 through my art education class, created lesson plans and introduced my students to a variety of mediums, including textiles, pottery, painting, and drawing.

Private knitting and sewing classes:
I have held private knitting and sewing classes for years, working with children and adults. These are some of my favourite classes, as I love the subject matter and the classes are usually quite relaxed.

Student Directed Seminar: I taught my own seminar at the University of British Columbia through their Student Directed Seminar Programme, and was nominated as a graduating student leader for my role in the seminar.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to make the subject matter engaging, and teach in a way that encourages students to ask questions.

I put a lot of effort and creativity into my lesson plans, and have made flash cards, practice homework and mock tests in the past. I am flexible, and, while I like the lessons to be structured, I am also adaptable to students' learning styles.

My art and knitting classes are a bit more carefree, although I still do assign practice between sessions.
