Personal Description:
I am a very well-qualified, experienced, friendly and successful teacher of English as a Foreign Language, and I teach individuals or small groups of students in my home. I have always loved learning languages and am very much a 'people person', which is why I decided to become an English teacher after leaving university. Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience has mostly been of adults and young adults (16 - 55) in small groups or one to one classes. For many years I taught English as a Foreign Language at Bell International London, and before that for the British Council in Italy (Milan and Rome) and Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur). I have also taught on pre-sessional and in-sessional courses at Queen Mary, University of London. My students have been at all levels and from a wide variety of cultures.

My approach to teaching is very student-centred. We first discuss which language aspects my students want to improve and their previous language learning experience. We then agree on a programme, and regularly review it. Each lesson builds on the previous one and the materials and teaching approach are tailored to each individual's needs, interests and learning style.

Hello, I'm Jonathan, and am currently in my second year of a MEng undergraduate degree in Material Science and Engineering at Imperial College London. I am an approachable and dependable 19 year old with an open mind. Having been assigned a number of positions within my university and school, such as being a prefect and mentor, I have the skills and flexibility to adapt to any situation.

Teaching Experience:

For two years, I tutored a boy in KS2 Mathematics, English and Verbal Reasoning every weekend to teach him key ideas in these subjects. Within school, I am a mathematics and physics prefect and so help struggling students and I was also a mentor for a younger student (Year 7), which involved supervising his studying, to improve his work ethic and grades.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in a tailored and refined approach, where the strengths of a student should be stretched and challenged beyond the core syllabus, but to also spend and dedicate more time on the harder areas where students struggle, so that they can get as much exposure to types of questions asked in the exam as possible. A proper understanding of concepts is needed before progress can be made and an alternative way of explaining ideas, from a younger mind, may help some of the ideas sink in more.
Moreover, students learn in different ways, whether it be through colors, diagrams or notes and a tailored experience should be delivered to each student to ensure that they get the teaching that suits and benefits them.

Hello! My name is Rhea and I love to teach. I am most excited about Art as this is my passion (I am currently working as a Graphic Designer). Tutoring Approach:

Different people have different problems, so it would be somewhat inflexible to have a completely "catch-all" approach to how to teach people.

However, I tend to prefer a teaching style where the student is as active as possible. I usually acheive this by trying to get the student to reason through problems themselves, while helping them along the way. In my experience, this also helps me see where there are gaps in the student's knowledge, and helps me understand their thought process. (It is imperative to understand where the student is in their understanding.) It also helps approach a very common problem with students, which is fear, or lack of confidence - being encouraged to think through ideas and problems which they find difficult in a safe and non-judgmental environment can help them develop a better attitude to their subject.

I also try to offer connections with, and examples from, everyday life. I generally draw and use diagrams as much as possible, or even use props, as I find it to be the most expressive way of teaching.

I am also very enthusiastic about Science and Maths. I often find that this ends up rubbing off on some of my students!

After approaching my student on her/his chosen areas of focus (GCSE pupils can expect to improve their writing skills as much as or even more than their speaking skills, while professional people may prefer to be more at ease first with their conversational skills) I try and devise lesson plans that are well-focused and engaging.

I use recent and stimulating resources such as French films, documentaries, online blogs and magazines.

Having done some acting in my early twenties I like to take inspiration from the feeling of acting and improvising. this does not mean that my students end up reciting impressive French speeches standing up in a cafe, but rather that I have a mind that naturally tries to create situations that lend themselves to role playing or improvising moods, etc.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very systematic person.My teaching method is straight forward. I teach each individual student at his/her level. I will provide a step by step approach into dealing with and tackling each question. I provide examples and papers from past year examinations.Approach to tutoring varies from objective to objective.
Language in my opinion should be taught in a full immersion style, especially when it is targeting groups of people who are doing it for either vocational or personal reasons.
Tutoring of subjects such as languages with an objective such as GCSE or Highers or indeed University exams must take into account the syllabus that students must complete in order to reach their target: i.e. pass exams and, at the same time, learn in an effective though 'unforgettable' way. The majority of classes must be delivered in the target language, however in order to meet timing of syllabus coverage and exams some of the concept must be strengthened in the student's language.
In an ideal world, where no exams or timed targets exist, then tutoring of a language should happen 100% in the target language. With timing and strategy i guarantee improvement with my guidance.
