I'm twenty two and have lived, worked and studied in the south Hampshire area my whole life. I love the area and intend on staying here for the foreseeable future! I'm currently studying Graduate Entry Medicine at the University of Southampton, having completed my BSc. (Hons) Human Physiology at the University of Portsmouth in 2015. I attended Hamble Community Sports College, achieving 14 GCSEs at grade A and A* - top of my year - and Peter Symonds College, studying Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Critical Thinking and General Studies. My Mathematics and Statistics GCSE (taken a year early) were the highest the school had ever achieved, both gaining an A* (99.5% and 100% respectively).

Teaching Experience:

During my GCSE preparation period, and during the exam time also, I tutored several students in my year and below for Mathematics and Statistics, alongside their current teaching at school. I have also, however, given tuition to other adults, most of whom were taking their Mathematics GCSE as an extra qualification in order to get a promotion at work. I would be very willing to do any type of Key Stage 2, 3 or GCSE Mathematics or Statistics teaching for a person of any age.
I have now taught many students, ranging from ages 5 - adult, and all of those which have sat exams have at least achieved the grades they were after. I have helped students to reach required grades, supplementing class teaching, catching up on missed lessons, improving old Maths skills and more recently as a standalone teacher of the entire GCSE syllabus. I have also helped individuals gain much needed confidence in their own skills and I have a lot of experience in helping students to believe in themselves!

Tutoring Approach:

Mathematics being a specific passion of mine, I encourage students to apply their own knowledge to the question, before adding any new information. By showing proof of how a calculation or question works, I believe that anyone can grasp a method if they are shown the reason behind its usage. I believe I can offer an alternative to the class driven method of teaching, and allow students to gain aptitude in spotting the need for a calculation just by reading the question, and hopefully then on to creating their own calculations and solutions! I also aim to make a heavy question of 5 or 6 marks appear to be just a group of smaller questions, making each mark easier to get. I've been teaching for four years now and I've seen many students suffer from a lack of confidence in their own ability, and I always ensure that not only does the person have core, and advanced knowledge, but that they have confidence in the fact that anything can be achieved!

Personal Description:
As a British Chinese, I spent my childhood in China until I was 11 when my family moved to London. I found the pace of study of mathematics at my state school to be too slow for my curiosity. From the age of 12, I self-taught mathematics until university. During this period, I completed my GCSE maths with A* at the age of 12, A-level maths at 14 with a score of 599/600, A-level further maths at 16. For A-level studies, I completed 7 A-levels (Maths, Further Maths, Music, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Business Studies) and AS-level in ICT, all at my inner city state school. I went on to study Mathematics at Imperial College, graduated with first class honours and my final year exam results ranked first in my year - it is something I aim to teach my students.

I worked for a number of years for a finance firm in the City of London. At the same time, I have been tutoring since I was 18. My tutoring spread through recommendations, and I still have a number of long term tutees. I have always found tutoring to be most satisfying and fulfilling, especially when I witness students' progress from bafflement to appreciation, and eventually achieving their aspirations. Now I have decided to become a dedicated full time professional tutor, and has been doing so for last three years.

Teaching Experience:

I have done a great deal of one-to-one maths tuitions, more than 60 students over the last ten years and more than 5000 hours. Almost all the tuition is in mathematics, although sometimes I also help with sciences at the same time. Most of my previous students have been introduced to me by way of recommendation, a few found me from uktutors site, I have not had the need to advertise else where. I have tutored maths at GCSE, A-level, and also tutored Further Maths. My teaching experience started from myself, as I self-taught maths until university. In order to master my subject by myself, I read many text books and assimilate the best ideas and methods of each. In the end, I summarized the best methods, which are often starkly intuitive and widely applicable. With these unique methods, a focus on deep intuitions and my own enthusiasm, the passion I have for maths is often transferred to my tutees. I am also of the philosophy that if a topic does not feel easy for a tutee, then that is my problem, not theirs. Then I would strive to find a better way to allow my tutees to understand the topic as I do, and feel as easy as I do.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring approach is one of efficiency and clarity. Efficiency and clarity means that I will be able to cover a vast amount of material in a short period of time, while not sacrificing clarity and understanding for my pupils. Students are required to learn most of the methods available for any topic. Where possible, I will emphasize the why something works the way it does as well as how to use it. All these are to help pupils to develop a deep understanding and appreciation for the subject, as well as best equip them for exams. All these can still be achieved efficiently and at speed! My pupils are usually surprised at how much we can cover and how well they can understand something at such speed. The efficiency and clarity can be achieved because I make it my goal to deliver the clearest ideas to my students as efficiently as possible. This is what I spend time doing when I am not tutoring. Along the way my students will benefit from many new ways of thinking on many topics which are not found on text books or anywhere else, which give them an edge in exams. Final note, I usually cover everything, and in advance, which will allow the student to have school lessons as revision class.

In addition, when I take someone on, it is naturally my goal to help motivate them along the way. If a tutee isn't doing enough work, I will take an active role to encourage and motivate the student to work harder. To me it is all part of what I do, if the thing that is stopping a student achieving is their habits or time management, then I will help them deal with it too.

Finally, I place great importance in maintaining a positive relationship with the tutees. Before any tuition start, we would have an informal chat with parents and student to establish how the student would like me to help him or her. It is most important that the student understand that I am here to help them achieve their goals, not that of the parents goals. This will allow us to start from a good basis to form a positive relationship in order to help the student.

I am a 23 year-old postgraduate student in Durham University, with a masters in mathematics.

Teaching Experience:

In 2010-2012 I was the initiator of a volunteer project called 'Fairy tales in Pictures'. The project involved working, communicating and interacting with children with learning difficulties, playing games with them and teaching them to tackle different tasks. This was an opportunity to develop my communication and listening skills regarding various kinds of people, becoming extremely aware of the difficulties children can have with learning and understanding new things, and how these difficulties can be tackled.
I have helped my 11-year-old sister with her maths and English language-related lessons over the years. This has helped me understand children better and sense when they are in need for more training and explanation in particular areas. I have also helped friends' children with their problems, offering help, guidance and advice.

Tutoring Approach:

The key method to learning mathematics is by solving problems and dealing with examples. My approach is to give a clear explanation on the theory and then focus on different types of examples to help children understand things through practice. After several examples, I encourage children to attempt problems themselves at first, then ask questions and give small hints, guiding the child to obtain the correct answer as independently as possible. I give homework for children to practice their newly acquired knowledge, and I check if they've done the homework correctly on the next lesson.

Hello student, I am a young Spanish guy who work in the health sector (NHS), precisely in a microbiology laboratory.
I am a cheerful, hard-working, dynamic and patient person. I would like to teach Spanish in my spare time. Like you I've also been and am still a student of a foreign language, so I understand how hard it can be. But in the same way I also appreciate how nice it is to communicate in that language which has devoted so much time.

Teaching Experience:

My experience as a tutor is as follows. Six years coaching swimming to kids about 8 years old and currently at work teaching my coworkers about different techniques in the lab.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor I can teach you to write, read, and talk. And all above that you are interested. Just ask me.

Personal Description:
I am a patient, energetic and enthusiastic first year student at Swansea University currently studying Translating and Interpreting in Italian and English and beginners Spanish. I attended Plymouth college of art and studied art and design as an extended diploma, while part taking in many TRP youth productions (Theater Royal Plymouth). I have been in cast in productions such as The World At Your Feet, Allie and the Alien and The Bus Project (a short film to raise awareness of the dangers of binge drinking in adolescents).i have always had a deep interest in performing arts and illustration and have always admired my teachers, observing their techniques of sharing their passion for the subject to their students. This made me think about how i could also use my language skills to help other people learn English as a foreign language (i was born in Italy and had to learn English from scratch myself).As a result this makes me uniquely qualified to teach both Italian and English as foreign languages due to the fact i am fluent in both.
I work well with children of all ages and can maintain a calm and positive attitude in every situation. I am known to be a very friendly and approachable individual and above all my passions, my biggest is to help others.

Teaching Experience:

i currently have no teaching experience, other than teaching my younger brother English since birth and supporting his creative and mental development.

Tutoring Approach:

I have always wanted to combine my language skills with my artistic abilities to teach a foreign language through drama and art as i think that creative expression leaves a long lasting impression and can help students remember their lessons through the distinct and fun activities that support their learning. i stand firmly by this because i have found that the majority of young people learn more effectively through colours, images, actions and most importantly memories through enjoyment. i don't think a child or adolescent cannot be fully engaged in the learning environment if they do not find the experience positively memorable. i do not believe that a student can benefit much from reading a large textbook in a non interactive and monotone environment as studies have shown that such teaching methods do not yield as successful results.

Hi, I am Hayes. I am originally from Hong Kong, and I came to study in Aberdeen University four years ago, and I recently graduated in Master of Arts in English and Language & Linguistics. As a native speaker of Cantonese and Mandarin, I am able to teach the two of my mother-tongue. Also, I am confident that my mathematics foundation formed in my high school years would allow me to teach Mathematics.

Teaching Experience:

I was a voluntary tutor in my high school, teaching Mathematics and English as a second language. After coming to Aberdeen, I have helped my friends who were learning Mandarin in the university to achieve good grades in their exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the most important job of a tutor is to inspire the tutee to think. It is impossible for people to learn just by reciting everything, they have to know how to analyse, then they will be able to tackle more difficult problems in the future.

I have a degree in Microbiology, a PhD in Microbiology and Biochemistry and six years experience of working in a University lab as a researcher. I currently work for a Biotechnology SME as Research and Development Manager.

Teaching Experience:

During my PhD and while working as a researcher I developed and delivered short, practical workshops to a wide audience, from primary school children through secondary school at GCSE and A-Level, and to the general community at outreach days. I have also supervised Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, demonstrated in University practical classes and lectured to UG and Masters level.

Tutoring Approach:

I love science, and hope to pass my enthusiasm onto others through tutoring. I believe that enjoyment of a subject will aid in learning, as well as adding relevance to aid understanding. It is important that learning is a conversation between tutee and tutor, to ensure that the environment is conducive for the tutee.

I am an Oxbridge graduate and dedicated teacher and tutor of Classics. I completed my undergraduate degree at Robinson College, University of Cambridge and hope to soon complete an MA in History of Art. Outside of my teaching and tuition work, I am a firm believer in lifelong learning and am currently attending an Italian evening class, to improve my understanding of the language.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified teacher, holding a PGCE from the University of Cambrige and Qualified Teacher Status. I have 3 years of teaching experience, including at two top grammar schools (The Tiffin Girls' School and Chelmsford County High School for Girls). I have taught Latin, Greek and Classical Civilisation across all Key Stages, and have extensive experience of preparing students for public examinations. My most recent cohort of students achieved 78% at A* and 100% at grades A* - B at GCSE; 100% of my A Level students achieved grades A* - B. In addition, I have 5 years of experience of private tuition, ranging from preparing students for university applications in Classics to building confidence in both Latin and Greek for younger pupils. I have prepared numerous students for university and Oxbridge applications and specialise in interview preparation.
I have also taught at Latin Camp for the last 3 years during the summer holidays, as I am a firm believer in every student having the ability and opportunity to learn Latin - I am dedicated to my subject and enjoy the opportunity to share ideas and resources with my colleagues, to ensure that I continue to develop my teaching practice.
My particular teaching research interests focus on tailoring language tuition to students who do not speak English as a first language and developing understanding of learners from different cultures, in order to ensure that they achieve their academic best.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is to cater for the needs of each student as an individual learner; no two students are the same and, from my experience both as a classroom teacher and as a private tutor, I understand the importance of preparing tasks that will help, stretch and challenge the individual. I am a firm believer in ensuring that the basics of language learning are strong, with a focus on grammatical knowledge and understanding. I understand that students have different barriers to learning and aims and ambitions they wish to realise, and I ensure to take these into consideration when preparing lessons and learning activities.
When learning Latin and Greek, recall of accidence, syntax and vocabulary is crucial to ensure that reading Classical texts, the aim of learning ancient languages, comes naturally. I am very patient and understand from my own learning of Classical languages that everyone has their own particular areas of difficulty; I aim to help students through understanding tricky constructions and reading challenging texts with patience, humour and dedication. For students entering public examinations, past paper practice is key and I ensure that students are as well prepared as they can be. For Oxbridge applicants, interview practice and contemplating issues surrounding the subject, along with experience of reading classical texts under pressure in a test or interview environment, is important to ensure that they shine during the interview process.
Regardless of the level that the student is working at, be it beginning learning Latin or Greek, sitting their Classical Civilisation A Level or preparing for an Oxbridge interview, I am a firm believer in drawing out the full potential of all my tutees and aim to help students achieve their very best.
