Personal Description:
*NOW BOOKING FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2016-17*

Thank you for looking at my profile.

I am a full time, professional tutor, specialising in English, maths and general study skills. I achieve excellent results and students look forward to my sessions. As detailed below, I have a wealth of experience and success working with students with Special Educational Needs, and other difficulties which have prevented them from accessing the curriculum fully.

I have a very calm, patient and friendly approach to tuition. I will explain and revisit as many times as needed and use a variety of methods to make tricky topics memorable. I use a range of resources and approaches, tailored to student preferences and different learning styles.

I am qualified teacher with a BEd teaching degree and a Masters degree in education, plus other courses attended to further my professional development.

MEd: I have a Masters Degree in Education, completed in 2013.
The modules I studied are as follows:
`Educational enquiry` (research in education) (2013)
`Investigating language in action`(supporting learners of English) (2012)
`Difficulties in literacy development` (specifically dyslexia) (2008)

British Dyslexia Association and Unicorn Maths- `Dyscalculia Plus` (2012)

BEd Primary with Qualified Teacher Status (subject specialism English) (2003)

BTEC National Diploma in Childhood Studies (Learning and development 0-8 years) (1999)

9 GCSE`s all A-C:
Child Development, English Literature, English Language, Mathematics, French, History, Religious Education, Science. (1997)

Teaching Experience:

My specialist subjects are English, maths and Special Educational Needs.

I have held a number of roles:

*private tutor
*university Specialist Tutor for dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and autism
*primary school class teacher for nursery to Y2 (inner city school; many children had behavioural/emotional issues and did not have English as their first language)
*cover teacher for nursery to Y6
*subject co-ordinator for Personal, Social and Health Education
*subject co-ordinator for music

As well as teaching, I have worked in a variety of settings as a nursery nurse and nanny. I have been able to build excellent relationships with parents and children and am still in touch with families that I have worked with over the years.

References: available on request

Tutoring Approach:

I support students with many different needs and situations. These include:

*dyslexia
*dyspraxia
*dyscalculia (difficulty with maths)
*self esteem or confidence issues
*children who struggle at school due to emotional or behavioural issues
*children who have missed school for various reasons
*children who are home educated
*adults who want to `catch up` or improve their English and maths
*college and university students who need support with essay writing, proofreading and exam revision techniques

Over the past 4 years in my role as a tutor, my students have made excellent progress in terms of confidence, catching up with age-related expectations and achieving the desired level or above in 11+ or Year Six SATs. I have a loyal student base and much of my work now comes from existing student recommendations.

Recent successes:

Children who have not responded to tuition in the past have really engaged with the subject and made good progress.

Children who were struggling with Year 6 SATs have achieved at least one level higher than predicted.

Those tutored for 11+ exams have passed and gained entry to their chosen school (Two to Wolverhampton Grammar, one to King Edward`s Birmingham).

Feedback from a Masters level student on completion of her dissertation:

I would like to express my deepest thanks to my support tutor Zoe whose support has been most invaluable, without which I could not have possibly completed this project, and I am forever grateful for her help.
(Taken with permission from the acknowledgements of her dissertation, May 2015).

TESTIMONIALS

"Over the past 3 years, I`ve had Italian lessons with a number of Italian teachers. Craig has by far been the most effective. He was quickly able to identify specific approaches to learning that would work for me and most importantly, keep me enthused! I am impressed by his preparation he doesn`t just bring the same text book to each lesson and set gap-filling exercises like previous teachers I`ve had - each lesson is carefully tailored to the subject in a way that makes the lesson interactive and memorable. Although I may know what the agenda for the lesson is, how he chooses to run the lesson is always a surprise. One subject leads on to the next as I progress but within each new topic, he skilfully and patiently recaps over previous topics to make sure I don`t forget what we`ve already touched on, which I really appreciate. Homework is set each week and because he makes it interesting, I look forward to the challenge of completing it. My ability to discuss, negotiate, tell stories fluently in Italian has really come on since working with Craig and my grasp of Italian grammar continues to improve thanks to his clear and concise explanations." Su, Walderslade

"Craig has been teaching me Spanish for nearly a year. One-on-one home tutoring enables me to fit lessons around my busy work and family life.
As a mature student I really appreciate Craig`s structured approach to language teaching tailored to my own specific learning pace" Neil, Lordswood

"I have been furthering my French with Craig for some time. He is very encouraging and likes to push you out of your comfort zone at times - which is a good thing as it gives confidence. Craig always makes learning fun and we can be discussing anything from the state of the country to man-eating spiders! He uses a variety of media and tailors lessons to your own requirements/needs or if there is something in particular you have a problem with he finds a way to explain it clearly." - Sharon, Chatham

"Craig is very professional, patient and understanding, I am an absolute beginner in French and after a couple of weeks of tutoring by Craig, I feel confident enough to ask in French some basic questions. Very big plus for me" Jacqueline, Walderslade

"Craig is friendly , helpful and moves you along at your pace" Martin & Lynda, Hempstead

Teaching Experience:

Experience teaching all ages, both in a school environment and one-to-one private tuition and with years of tutoring experience.

We can cater for beginner level right through to experienced speakers who want to brush up on their skills.

Tutoring Approach:

We teach using a variety of materials depending on level, such as class and activity books, grammar and vocabulary books, videos, Internet and printed exercises.
We do our best to tailor lessons to our student's needs. Most of our students are learning a language for a specific reason, such as for holidays or for exams. We design our lessons according to the reason and aim for learning.
We are happy to receive feedback from our students after each lesson and take into account any ideas for following lessons.

Personal Description:
I have recently finished a BA Degree in English Literature and Language at the University of Oxford where I recieved a 2.1 degree. I did my A-Levels at Greenhead College in Huddersfield, which was voted number 1 sixth-form of the year by The Times, and I achieved A* A* A A. My focus is mainly English, maths and history for all ages up to A-Level standard, but I also offer Study Skills advice and tuition for the 11-Plus and the Oxford English admissions test, the ELAT. I am calm and polite, unpretentious and enthusiastic, consistent and professional in behaviour, but always friendly and never clinical.

Teaching Experience:

I have roughly 4 years of tutoring experience and have worked with ages ranging from 10 to 40 on various different areas of Maths, English and History.

Tutoring Approach:

I understand the value of your education and the importance of a personalised approach to learning. I advocate a focused, disciplined education, but understand how to motivate younger, or less mature tutees. I know my fields well and keep up to date in current advances - anything I need to learn, I will, swiftly and with pleasure. I am perceptive, able to quickly and effectively identify how a tutee learns best. Having recently left education myself, I can sympathise with those currently part of it. This, I believe, is a huge advantage - as one recently taught, I know what is an effective, modern way of teaching. Above all, I simply enjoy the rewards of good tutoring: watching a tutee grow and thrive. In few other professions is such a reward possible, and this, ultimately, is why I am so dedicated to spending every second required to make your tutoring a success.

Personal Description:
I've been living in England for over 15 years, most of them in a tranquil town of Bradford on Avon. I'm a keen reader and chair a reading group. I have two extremely bright and boisterous boys, both of them completely bilingual, talking, reading and writing in both languages from an early age. I find that teaching comes very natural to me however I use all the latest techniques recommended by teaching authorities.

Teaching Experience:

For the last three years I've been contracted to teach Russian Language for MoD, which means that sometimes I can be extremely busy but most of the time I still have sessions available.
I am working towards teaching qualification (Cert Ed leading to Diploma in Education)

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in using different ways of teaching and learning approaches (VAK). I recognize the necessity of inclusion, equality and diversity, to approach the learners differently according to their needs. During my PTLLS course I learnt how to plan my lessons using scheme of work and lesson plan. Writing lesson plan was particularly useful as it helped me to break it down into parts in order to monitor progress and plan the lesson better time-wise I also like to use different resources, including e-learning as well as textbooks, spreadsheets and printouts. I make sure that my lessons are interesting and relevant.
As a part of a course, I teach Russian Grammar and we do plenty of dialogues, free writing, read Russian literature and poetry, listen and watch Russian news.

Personal Description:
I am a UCL graduate, with Masters degree in Phonetics (Linguistic department).
I have a degree in Tourism and also studied English philology and teaching English as a foreign language.

Currently I work in a legal department, where I focus on providing training to law firms, barristers and law students.

One of my biggest passions are languages. I studied French, Spanish, Latin, Portuguese and Japanese, just to name a few.
I think that given the right approach, you can truly enjoy studying a language and it can be (and SHOULD be) a fun and exciting experience.

Teaching Experience:

I taught English as a Second Language for 2 years in a private school.
My one-to-one language tutoring includes teaching: English, Polish and Brazilian Portuguese.

I have been teaching on and off for about 10 years.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is very modern. I am a firm believer that the right environment and teaching style have massive impact on the learning curve.
I tailor sessions to fit individual's needs, I make sure that they get the most of the time spent during the class and that they engage throughout.
Some of the techniques I use focus around: mnemonic techniques (how to best remember AND retain the knowledge utilizing associations), pragmatic tools (being able to recognize the goal and tapping into the value of the information attained), removing the unnecessary clutter of teaching techniques that do not work for an individual.

Personal Description:
I am a Tutor in English for Academic Purposes at a large UK university. In this role I teach both Academic English and General English.

Over the past thirteen years I have taught in the UK, Italy and Libya. I have taught in private schools, state schools and universities. In addition, I have taught students of all levels from beginners to advanced and all ages from 3 to adult.

I am an experienced online tutor with over 250 hours taught via Skype.

Teaching Experience:

Lecturer in English for Academic Purposes at the University of South Wales (5 years)

Teacher Trainer/English Teacher British Council Libya (3 years)

British Institutes Trento, Italy (2 years)

Private tutor in TESOL (2 years)

Cambridge IELTS examiner

Cambridge IGCSE Assistant Examiner

General English, Academic English and English for Specific Purposes (e.g. Business English)

Tutoring British and European History ages 11-18 (UK)

Tutoring Approach:

In teaching English as a foreign language I follow the communicative approach. This means plenty of communication between the student and tutor, rather than spending the whole lesson working through grammar exercises.

My lessons are student centred, which means that each lesson is about the student. My materials are carefully tailored to the individual student and not a 'one text fits all' course book. I try to make my lessons relevant to my student's needs, for example, if you are a chef I base my lessons on cookery; if you work in a shop I base my lessons around retail; and if you are studying for IELTS or residency, I will tutor you for that. Just tell me what you want to do and I will do my very best to help you realise your dream.

Personal Description:
My native language is Spanish Latin-American but lived in Spain for 11 years, so I can speak both kinds fluently and good grammatical

Teaching Experience:

This is my fist time as a tutor but I have worked like Au-pair in Germany and Spain, with child and I was like a teacher because we share the languages in differents activities, plays, singing, with Homeworks etc.
Other experiences in leisure time in summer, in the holidays with friends and his families, or the babysitter.
I like to do activities for teaching new vocabulary, go to the park

Tutoring Approach:

Consider important to learn and practice a language in a form very practical and simple. Personally I try to teach in this way because we can remember better the grammatic when we are in a dairy situation and enjoy together.
