Personal Description:
Hi there,

My name is Jean-Charles. I am a 29-year-old French male. I have been living, studying and working in the UK for more than two years. I worked as a chef two years ago, as a French assistant last year and as a trainee-teacher this year when studying the PGCE French with Spanish. I am now a qualified teacher and I work in a comprehensive school near Reading.
Before coming to the UK, I studied philosophy and French language and literature at the Université de Strasbourg. I have a very good knowledge of French literature and grammar and it has been very helpful to my past tutees.

I am easy-going and I adapt myself easily. One of my favourite hobbies is speaking foreign languages and discovering new cultures.

Teaching Experience:

In Reading:
I have been teaching French in a comprehensive school to pupils aged from 11 to 18.

In Liverpool:
I have been tutoring a mature student to improve her speaking from January 2012.
As part of my PGCE, I taught French from Y7 to Y13 and Spanish up to Y9 from October 2011 to 2012.

In Grimsby:
As a French assistant, from November 2010 to May 2011, I helped primary and secondary students with their French on a one-to-one basis, in small groups and I also taught lessons to whole classes.

In Bolton:
I taught French language -grammar and literature- to a mature-student retired from teaching from October 2009 to March 2010. (testimonial available)

In Strasbourg:
I gave lessons in French to a 16-year-old girl in Strasbourg in the summer 2010.
I also helped two primary school pupils with their homework from 2007 to 2011.

Tutoring Approach:

As I strongly believe that languages and cultures come together, I always strive to work on authentic material and I also give my tutees many opportunities to learn in out of tution context in order to develop their cultural knowledge.

However, for me the most important in teaching is to meet the needs of learners. Therefore, my priority is first of all to assess the needs of my tutees. Tutees may want to develop only some of the 4 skills: speaking, listening, reading, or writing, depending on the use they want to make of French. They also may have particular topics they want to work on, functions of their needs, projects or tastes.

This student-led approach must be carried on throughout the lessons. The role of the tutor is to maximise opportunities for the learner to discover things by themselves because this is the most efficient and enjoyable way to learn.

Last but not least, languages are interesting and fun at the same time. They develop thinking skills as well as they provide entertainment. My tutoring reflects this philosophy. This is why I always try to alternate entertainment and thinking time during the lessons.

Personal Description:
I graduated from Cambridge University after studying Maths, Physics and Electrical Sciences. Since then, I have gained an MA and an MBA. Recently, I have been working as a consultant in the public sector, including running many training courses and helping clients understand the technologies I use on a one-to-one basis.

Teaching Experience:

The training and personal tuition work I do in the public sector involves getting complicated concepts across in a simple way. I am now using this skill to help children gain enthusiasm for subjects that they may think are boring and to get the concepts across through the use of examples that they can relate to. This complements school-work by bringing a more practical approach to problem solving. I freely admit that I have never been a classroom teacher, but if modern teaching is so good, why are you looking for private tuition?

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that for people to learn best, they must be enthusiastic about the subject and they must be able to relate the concepts to things they are interested in. My initial (free) evaluation session is therefore geared towards establishing both needs and interests. It is amazing how much maths can be related to football!

Personal Description:
I am a 32 year old Primary School teacher, and have been living in Northampton for over 10 years. I moved here to study for my BSc Hons Psychology Degree and then to complete my PGCE in Primary Education at the University of Northampton. I have a 3 1/2 year old daughter and number 2 on the way!

Before going into teaching, I studied for a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate, which I then used to teach English in a school in a deprived area of the Dominican Republic for four months. This was an amazing opportunity which, amongst other things, also gave me the chance to develop my Spanish skills.

I am warm, patient and kind and absolutely love my job as a teacher! I strive to get the best out of the children I work with; I enjoy getting to know them as individuals and helping them to achieve their full potential.

I am currently on maternity leave and available to tutor weekday afternoons, evenings and possibly some weekends. I will endeavour to arrange my childcare around your preferred times.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught across Key Stage 1 and 2 and have a sound knowledge of the curriculum. My creativity has led me to solely organise many whole school events, including Business and Enterprise Celebration Days, European Day of Languages, Spanish Day and an America Day (around the 2009 Election). Each of these events involved meticulous planning and co-ordination of events throughout the whole school.

In the past few years, I have delivered Maths training to Newly Qualified Teachers from schools across the county. I have also spoken at the annual Languages Subject Leaders Conference in Northampton and was invited to present to the PGCE graduates at The University of Northampton about the realities of the first year in teaching.

I have worked with many special needs children and have also tutored children on a one-to-one basis within my own school. My lessons have often been graded as 'outstanding' by Ofsted inspectors and senior school leadership.

Tutoring Approach:

I am passionate about being creative in my tutoring and believe that children learn best when they are happy, feel secure and confident in their abilities; are stimulated in a way that suits their interests and feel a real sense of achievement in themselves.

I aim to make my lessons as interactive and fun as possible, using many types of visual aids and stimuli to suit the learning style of the pupil. Children's learning is such a precious process and I am keen to spark their enthusiasm in as many ways as possible.

Following an initial and very informal assessment to identify targets I would then plan the work accordingly to suit the child's individual needs, interests and learning style.

Personal Description:
I am a recently retired teacher with over 30 years combined experience in further education, independent and maintained secondary schools. I am now based in a beautiful part of Norfolk, where I paint, give private tuition and run an art club.
My own work is based on observations of mans' intervention in the landscape. I work in oils, water colour, digital photography and print.
My interests in art and design are many and varied, and include, in no particular order, sculpture/ceramics (Moore, Gormley, Perry), photography (Cartier-Bresson and LaChapelle), graphic design (Brody, Bauhaus), and painting (Freud, Klimt, Giotto, Picasso).

Teaching Experience:

My first foray into teaching was in further education as a visiting lecturer in graphic design and illustration. Subsequently, I trained as a secondary school teacher and quickly became head of my first department in a boys grammar school. From there I moved into the independent sector, continuing to work successfully as head of department and head of faculty.
I have extensive experience as a senior regional moderator for GCSE examinations in art and design with a leading examinations board, being responsible for supervising the work of a team of visiting moderators in the south east of England, and for resolving disputes with schools. I do voluntary work for the National Trust, giving occasional talks to schools on symbolism in Tudor portraits.

Tutoring Approach:

Having started my career as a graphic designer I had, by necessity, to broaden my experience and skills into other two and three-dimensional media in order to become a successful teacher. My departments had outstanding results at GCSE and A-level, and many of my students went on to study at many of the principal art institutions, including Central St Martins, Chelsea, Glasgow, Edinburgh.
Teaching is about finding the unique personality of the individual and finding ways to encourage its expression. Allied to developing the imaginative and creative abilities is the need to create opportunities to build on existing technical skills and introduce new ones. The combination should be fun.

Personal Description:
I'm a very friendly 19 year old student at Loughborough University studying Sports Technology, this is a unique course consisting of Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, and Sports Science modules.
I have 3 little brothers so I have some experience in helping them with their maths.

I have always been good at mathematics, finding it easy to understand and learn. I achieved A* at GCSE and A at A Level.
I have a brother who has just achieved an A* at GCSE maths who I had helped in the areas in which he struggled. I also have a brother who I helped pass his common entrance maths exam 2 years ago at the age of 13.

I am also a ski and snowboard instructor and have been since the age of 16, so I am very experienced in teaching all ages of students.

I am confident in my mathematical ability and my ability to teach.

Teaching Experience:

I have assisted in my brothers' maths exams in the areas they struggled in (GCSE and Common Entrance).
I am also a very experienced ski and snowboard instructor so have lots of teaching experience.

Tutoring Approach:

I would have to do all tutoring on my computer using Skype as I am currently at University.
I would be able to help with their homework difficulties and coaching towards upcoming exams.

Personal Description:
Hello,

I am an open-minded, friendly tutor who is able to see things from different perspectives. I am not long out of university and very much understand what it's like to be a student and the processes and pressures that you need to go through.

I am passionate about my subjects and have studied and loved them all the way from GCSE to Masters level. I take joy in discussing and explaining them to others and have undertaken a wide range of historical and political studies. These include, but are not limited to:

- English history: 1485-1702
- The British Empire
- UK History: 1900-2013
- UK Politics: 1945-2013
- US History: 1776-2013
- US Politics: 1945-2013
- US Foreign Policy
- Germany: 1900-1945
- (Italian) Renaissance Wars 1494-1559
- General European History
- Middle Eastern History and Politics: 1900-2013
- Russian History and Politics: 1801-2013
- Chinese History: 1900-2013
- The First World War
- The Second World War
- The Cold War
- Intelligence networks
- EU History and Politics
- The current euro zone crisis (I wrote my Masters dissertation partly on this)
- Political Science concepts
- Political Philosophy

I have done a fair amount of travelling and have had some incredible experiences. I am a big fan of European languages and speak some Italian, German and French (as well as a bit of Russian).

Teaching Experience:

I have a considerable amount of experience tutoring both history & politics privately. I am comfortable teaching in person or across Skype.

I also have teaching experience in other areas such as music and sport. I attended Brighton Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) during my gap year to attain a music diploma and have taught guitar ever since. Additionally, I have taken a course to become a Level 1 tennis coach and as a result have worked alongside local tennis coaches to provide drills and technique improvement sessions.

Tutoring Approach:

As someone who has achieved high As in History at GCSE and A-level (A*s were not possible at A-level at this time), a 2:1 with numerous firsts at undergraduate and a merit average during my masters degree, I am fully aware of the means to achieve high grades. I am very friendly and understand that different students have different ambitions. I start any private tutoring with a conversation about what the student wishes to gain from the lessons. I am always careful to make sure the student is given help to the level they require so they can excel at their current qualification.

In the case of exams, my approach is largely syllabus and exam-technique focused. I will make sure the student does gain a comprehensive, confident understanding of the subject matter, but will want to pass on an in-depth knowledge of what the examiner is looking for. This approach is designed so that the student can best maximise their grades. I am able to help with providing a structured and planned approach if the student so desires.

However I am not a tick-box tutor who is not able to see the bigger picture. I am aware that a proper understanding of the subject is not only vital for overall development but also to achieve the necessary level of confidence a student needs to succeed. I only stress the importance of the syllabus and exam-technique because exams are (largely) grade-outcome orientated.

I look forward to tutoring you if you so wish! All the Best, Richard

Personal Description:
I am a qualified Modern Foreign Languages teacher, having a degree in French Studies from the University of Nottingham, plus additional qualifications in Business German and competence in Spanish. I graduated from the University of Nottingham with a PGCE teaching qualification in Modern Foreign Languages in 2012 and have been working as a teacher since then in a comprehensive secondary school in Nottinghamshire. I am a very keen linguist/language learner and I enjoy travelling widely in Europe and Worldwide. Before re-training as a Teacher, I worked for 10 years as a Personal Assistant and Administrator in a number of large international corporations.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching across all ages and key stages. I qualified as a teacher of Secondary Modern Foreign Languages with the University of Nottingham in 2012 and have been working full-time as a teacher of French ever since then. I have taught pupils aged from 11-18 years old in a fully comprehensive, mixed ability secondary environment. During my PGCE studies, I taught in 2 different secondary schools - both fully comprehensive, mixed ability secondary schools, but of different sizes, one with 2600 pupils, the other with just 600. I also have experience supporting in a primary school over 2 different placements and delivering French lessons there. During the summer between qualifying as a teacher and starting to work in a school in September, I worked in a summer school for 5 weeks, teaching English to French and Spanish teenagers and accompanying them on excursions and trips; I gained my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) qualification in 2009. Before training to be a teacher, I gained experience teaching adults working as a part-time volunteer teacher of Basic Skills and ESOL in the evenings at New College Nottingham and South Nottinghamshire College.

Personal Description:
Graduate of accounts and economics, with other main subjects -- english, geography, business studies.
Very passionate about imparting education, specialize in teaching english, maths (algebra and geometry), biology, chemistry at all levels upto gcse.
Significant knowledge of teaching 11+ entrance exams which are verbal and non verbal reasoning.
Expertise in business studies projects, anthology (comparisons of literature and poems)

Parents have certified my teaching skills and most of my tutees having bagged A grades, have progressed in the most prominent universities.

I believe in going more than an extra mile to encourage children.

THEIR ACHIEVEMENT IS MY SUCCESS.

Teaching Experience:

More than 19 years teaching both the primary and secondary pupils.

Have taught in various schools, both private and state maintained, tutored privately to pupils from various multi cultural backgrounds. Worked as a Teaching Assistant in special needs schools.

A vast knowledge of 11+ entrance exams which means teaching verbal and non verbal reasoning power. Many have mastered the art of solving maths in a minute whether equations, fractions, algebra or mental maths.

English is tutored by me which includes preparing students for GCSEs exams -- which means imparting fluent writing skills, cambridge grammar, character sketch, Shakespeare's work, Literature and Anthology (comparing poems) and helping with course work.

Students have successfully mastered interview skills through me, and gained foot hold in private schools without any tensions.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is completely different : I believe all children are blessed, and as a tutor, my success lies in tapping their potential by changing their weaknesses into strengths.

This means, I am very patient, punctual, consistent and professional.

Motivation, inspiration, appreciation and constant appraisals are the key to capture the minds of children.

Children have learnt to calculate maths without the use of calculators, thereby using their brain power, solving mentally, and being faster.

Practice makes a man perfect ----- I give pupils thorough practice and past papers to solve, before sitting for the exams.
Further, I also teach them how to attempt exam questions, how to check their maths answers and succeed with confidence.

I also mark their printed text books used in schools, making lessons easier to understand, highlighting questions and answers, give reasons, fill in the gaps, true or false etc. that appear in their exam papers. This makes learning, memorizing and preparation for exams very very simple without tensions.

STUDENTS COMING TO MY PLACE FOR LESSONS IS PREFERABLE.....HOWEVER........
HOME VISITS ARE ALSO UNDERTAKEN AT AN EXTRA TRAVEL SUPPLEMENT.

Personal Description:
I am a primary school teacher who lives in Brighton. I love living in Sussex and exploring the countryside and the amazing opportunities that there are within the county.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching in Primary Schools for 7 years now. I have taught years 4,5 and 6 so have an enhanced understanding of the curriculum requirements for this age as well as the expectations for the end of Key Stage 2 SATs tests.
I am still in the teaching profession and have an up to date understanding of current educational change.
Last year I was a personal tutor to 4 children all of whom were Year 6 and all of whom achieved Level 4 or above in their Maths SATs paper.
I have just completed a maths specialism course at Brighton university which has really developed my understanding of misconceptions children have in mathematics. I am just about about to start a Masters in Maths Education in order to continue to enhance my understanding in this area.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a firm believer in identifying what it is that is acting as a barrier to children's learning, each child is an individual so I therefore believe that they will require highly personalised learning experiences in order to help them make progress. So the tutoring experience your child will receive will be highly tailored to their needs.

I also feel strongly that learning should be meaningful and multi-sensory so I ensure that my teaching style allows the children to recognise the applications of their learning in the real world and is represented in as many different styles as possible to ensure that the learning is embedded and meaningful.

Personal Description:
A motivated, adaptable and responsible London Metropolitan University Film graduate seeking an entry-level position in film production which will utilise the organisational and communication skills developed through my involvement with field work during production projects with the Art Party Conference, Hitachi, Royal Academy of Arts and Samosa. However, firstly I want to enter a gap year and improve my skills in retail and sales, whilst gaining lots of in field experience working on several film sets and studio as a freelance. I am an individual with passion, drive and excellent communication and sociable skills. I am passionate, calm, and collective and try my best in all that I do. I coach young kids ranging from ages 4 to 14 and would like to get more involved in teaching kids education too. I also do photography freelance.

Teaching Experience:

As a Rugby coach of London Skolars Rugby League club, I help coach around 30 children every week in the club or in schools where I lay out fun coaching drills for the kids to enjoy for two hours. I always assist in organising the forms and documents and that parents must fill out. With more experience, I plan to coach more senior players in the future. I am currently getting work in a primary school to help tutor a classroom.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in answering exam questions and being able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems. My philosophy is based on the idea that learning happens in an environment of mutual respect in which the student is encouraged to think and make new connections for themselves. My experience has been that one-to-one personal tuition has a unique value to students because of the ability to resolve the students' personal barriers to learning in a way that lays the foundations for a deep and lasting understanding of the subject. My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style. However my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check understanding continually. I don't lecture to students or ask them to memorise things. Nor do I do the students' homework for them!
I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student's understanding and technique. I also give a lot of emphasis to some of the less obvious but vital skills such as essay structure and technique, logical thought, and the effective use of numbers and graphs.
I believe passionately in the huge value of tutoring to students and take great satisfaction in seeing my students achieve their full potential.
