Personal Description:
I am a postgraduate from the University of Leeds with a degree in Translation Studies with French. I have a passion for speaking French and I enjoy helping others with theirs. Simple as that really.

Teaching Experience:

Despite my relatively young age I have lots of teaching experience. I have been an English language assistant in France on two occasions, most recent of which was last year. I have worked with people with both adults and children ranging from ages 7 to 40

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is fairly straight-forward, to keep it relaxed and as informal as possible. I believe the best results can be obtained when the student is relaxed and confident, especially with regards to trying to speak a foreign language, as sometimes in a school environment the student lacks the confidence to ask questions. Rest assured, under my tuition your competence in written and spoken French will improve greatly, and hopefully it will be fun!

Personal Description:
I am a professional, friendly and enthusiastic qualified teacher. I teach part time and deliver private tuition as it balances well with my family commitments. As a child I struggled with some basic skills at school and needed extra tuition myself, so I can appreciate how my students feel in this pressurised age of results and targets.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 11 years. I started teaching English as a Foreign Language in Prague, Tokyo and finally Paris and fter three years, I returned to the UK to take a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) in Modern Foreign Languages. I taught French and German to GCSE level for four years before deciding to become a supply teacher and personal tutor. I spent 2010/2011 teaching Year 6 French and English, preparing the for their literacy SATs. This Year however I taught a full Year of Year 6 and guided the class through the new SPAG (Spelling and Grammar) test as well as their reading exam and assessed writing.

In French at Key Stages 3 and 4, I prepared students for their GCSE reading, writing, speaking and listening assessments. I marked their final written papers and conducted their oral exams.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to each student is wholly dependent on their age and level. If a child needs tuition, they are likely
to be falling behind at school, suffering from low self-esteem and maybe embarrassed by needing help. My approach is always a sensitive one and my focus is to build a strong and trusting relationship. Many children struggle at school because of a single misunderstanding and once this 'blockage' is cleared, they gain confidence and flourish. Other children may be behind because of changing schools or missing school due to illness, which requires a more practical pro-active approach.

Personal Description:
Hi,

My name is Paul, I am 35 years old and I live in Bristol. I was born in the UK but at the age of 11 months my family moved to Northern Italy where I lived until finishing school at the age of 18. I grew up speaking Italian and learned French at school from the age of 7 and Spanish from the age of 13. Over the last 15 years, my career has revolved around my languages and I have gained valuable knowledge in business terminology for each language. I have travelled extensively around Italy, France and Spain thereby learning to appreciate their respective histories, cultures and values. I have a particular fondness for Italian food and spend a lot of my free time cooking for friends and family.

Teaching Experience:

I have given tuition to people via this website including GCSE level italian for two students throughout the last school year as well as one to one spanish and italian tutition to another two students recently at beginner level.

I have also given conversation classes to friends and colleagues in the past and in my profession I have translated numerous documents, user guides and correspondence for work.

Tutoring Approach:

I have used textbooks in the past when tutoring but I would leave the choice of textbook to the student so that they can pinpoint exactly what level of fluency they aim to achieve and then work in line with their choice. To this end, upon first meeting a student, I would discuss with them what they are aiming to achieve from the tuition and then we could research which textbooks or learning material would be best suited them. There is also a large selection of free material online which I would be happy to print out and follow with the tutee during lessons. I also believe in a more informal approach of conversational tuition to enhance the social benefits of speaking a foreign language, . My aim would be for tuition sessions to be conducted in the language chosen so as to maximise the practice of speaking the language before delving further into the grammar and structure.

I am currently teaching Italian at conversation level and my student is making great progress through re-enacting basic scenarios such as making hotel reservations, ordering at a restaurant or finding where buildings and museums are. I believe that practice makes perfect and once the basics are mastered, the extension of a student's vocabulary and ability to conjugate verbs is made all the more easy.

Personal Description:
I work in London as a research manager and teaching Mandarin is my personal interest. I enjoy helping my students achieve their goals and seeing them enjoy learning a new language. As a old Chinese saying goes "teaching and learning are reciprocal and should develop at the same time", I always teach with a great passion. I live in St Albans and would prefer to teach in nearby areas.

Teaching Experience:

Over 5 years of part time teaching experience, from teaching primary and secondary school students to adult learning groups. Experience of working with young children of different cultural backgrounds and designing lessons to suit individual needs.

Mandarin teacher at Cranfield University community center (15 students) 2009
Individual tutoring 2008-2013

Tutoring Approach:

It's important to keep students interested but I have to say I am a strict tutor as I believe language learning requires a certain level of commitment. Chinese is not an easy language to pick up and I'd like to see my students try their best once they decide to begin this process. Of course I will try my best to help!

Personal Description:
I moved from Henley-on-Thames to Bampton in October 2011. Last academic year, I worked three days a week in an independent girls' school in Exeter, providing one-to-one support for a girl in Year 9 and also taught English Literature to Year 7 & Year 13 classes.

I have a passion for the written word and its performance in poetry and drama.

I am a mother with three grown-up children and very interested in how young people view and contribute to the world in which they live.

I hold a First Class Honours BA degree in English and Classics from the University of Reading. In September 2013, I am currently a part time MA in Postcolonial Studies at SOAS, London University. I believe that learning should be a lifelong process and I hope to use expertise acquired from my MA course to the benefit of my students.

I can offer lessons in my home in Bampton or in a student's home within a 25 mile radius, including Exeter, Taunton, Tiverton and Wellington. Tuition is also available online via email and Skype. This has proved to be a highly successful way of teaching, Travelling to a student's home may incur a small mileage charge but this would be subject to various factors and established prior to the first lesson.

Teaching Experience:

In addition to working in a school in Exeter (outlined above), I have been a highly successful English tutor for many years, originally based in the South-East. Working both through a tuition company, Howland Tutors in Marlow, and directly with clients in the Marlow and Henley-on-Thames areas, I have tutored students in English Language & Literature from KS1 to 'A' level. I also work with undergraduates in various disciplines, providing guidance in the structure of their essays, particularly dissertations, and academic writing.

I also have experience in helping adults with their business English and have written marketing copy for the commercial sector.

UPDATE AUGUST 2012 - Another amazing year of exam results. A recent contact through UK Tutors, living in Instow, had 10 lessons with me, one in person the remainder via Skype, and achieved A* grade in both English Language and Literature at GCSE. Similar success stories throughout GCSE,'A' level and undergraduate students in this academic year.

Tutoring Approach:

When I tutor a student, I search for a 'tailor-made' way to help increase their self-esteem and confidence. This enhances the learning they already receive in the classroom. The study of texts offers student and tutor alike not only an opportunity to develop communication one with another but also insight into the life experiences of others, both in past generations and the wider world today.

I have achieved an 100% success rate over the last seven years in helping students to achieve higher than their predicted grades at both GCSE and 'A' level and have many excellent references available. My students have come from the public, private and state school sectors and varying levels of academic ability.

Personal Description:
I am an inspiring, self-motivating and dynamic teacher with extensive experience in teaching at the UK academies, selective schools and a number of top boarding schools. As a result, I have acquired specialized knowledge of UK and Chinese educational systems and a flexible approach to teaching which is most relevant to the demands of the post.

Similarly, my strong academic record indicates that I am well-qualified for the job. In particular, I am currently studying Mandarin Chinese PGCE course at Institute of Education, which leads the UK for education training. The course has provided me with in-depth methodology skills, highly suited to the UK framework for teaching Mandarin Chinese. As part of this training, I have undergone intense observations across a wide range of school placements. This has provided me with practical experience of developing schemes of work in line with the National Curriculum of Mandarin Chinese.

Furthermore, during my school placements training, I have found this experience immensely rewarding and have developed an approach to teaching which aims to challenge and engage young minds. I have developed skills in teaching critical thinking and learnt how to nurture innovation and original thought. I instill high expectations in pupils and encourage self-efficacy as a tool for enabling achievement. Similarly, given the academic criteria of my school placements, I am expected to teach from basic to Oxbridge level. I have also developed insight into the value of inspiring pupils' intrinsic motivation and meta-knowledge. This involves emphasizing the importance of knowing individual strengths in order to capitalize on them and individual difficulties so as to identify enabling strategies. In addition, by fostering these facets of self-awareness, I find that pupils are often able to self-regulate aspects of their learning to excellent effect.

I will bring energy and enthusiasm to the school's extra-curricular activities. For example, I could offer Movie Clubs screening Chinese movies and Culture Clubs sharing Chinese Calligraphy and Tea Ceremonies. I am particularly skilled at cooking traditional Chinese food, which could be integrated into the school's Mandarin days and Festival celebrations. I am interested in Chinese music, singing and drama. I believe that integrating singing and drama into the Mandarin department would be a motivating tool for developing oral skills in the target language.

Finally, I believe teaching is one of the few vocations in life that can make a significant difference to people's lives, enabling children and young people to build a promising future. I also find teaching to be a very rewarding career, I am particularly happy and proud each time my students make progress in their study or advocate positive behavior. I also enjoy the challenge of teaching and developing new ways to make my lessons interesting and stimulating to a wide range of students.

Teaching Experience:

I have intensive teaching English and Mandarin Chinese experience in both top China secondary schools and UK academies and selective schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I will be teaching according to the students' age and different learning styles accordingly.

Personal Description:
I have been living in London for two years now, to start a new career and to develop a rich English language. Previously, I was born and lived in Paris for the first 25 years of my life.
I stay naturally interested in the educational field beside my work as a tutor, as I have committed into a Psychology course at City University London. Specifically, I always show curiosity and respect towards the unique approach that every learner needs when assimilating new knowledge.

Teaching Experience:

In Paris, I started as a volunteer within the French Red Cross and organised French classes for women experiencing severe linguistic disadvantages. In parallel, I was in charge of teaching privately a minor with learning and concentration disabilities.

I have become a home tutor since I have been living in London. Students for French are from 4 to 65 levelling from beginner to upper-intermediate. My emphasis is to organize classes according to students' needs. For conversational and business lessons, I have looked for the use of new other resources such as interactive exercises, programs on the radio, dictations, bilingual books, journals, softwares, card games and various playful activities for children; all beside a regular work on a book based on goals set.

In a more academic context, I have been helping French learners with writing, working thoroughly on essay and other writing skills (developing opinions, descriptions of past and current activities, plans and intentions). Besides, I have focused on adjusting the balance between passive and active skills according to each student, and working also on pronunciation. In other situations, we have also often gone through intensive preparation for school French examinations (GCSE, A-Level, Common Entrance examination, SAT, examinations in France such as the CRPE).

Moreover, I have been teaching Mathematics and Biology at primary, secondary and at a GCSE levels, in preparation of the exams. As I have been studying these subjects for a long time now and have shown curiosity towards them, I have also understood the specific school expectations at all levels.

Tutoring Approach:

In light of my current experience, I have realised how much teaching enhances interest to me. Successful learning has come through building motivation and confidence with my students. In many situations, learning will ask the learner to make an effort and the tutor has the duty to create the appropriate strategies for them to assimilate knowledge. I will be able to fulfil this by understanding deeply their specific gaps.
From the beginning, I have realised how essential it is to establish goals, to stay positive and resilient with learners. I have learnt to remain patient, focused on aims, as well as interested in all my students as unique persons and finding out the suitable learning pace for each of them. I have enjoyed conveying knowledge, stimulating and helping them to improve specific skills.

Achieving them to develop their confidence and being able to motivate, learn by themselves, and to handle new challenges has always been rewarding to me.

Personal Description:
An enthusiastic and dynamic multilingual tutor with a variety of teaching experiences at all levels in three different countries (France, Romania, England).

Over 8 years of experience as a qualified multilingual teacher/proofreader/translator in the study of French and English language.

Teaching Experience:

8 years of private tuition (French/ English) to children and adults in Romania, France and England;
5 years teaching and tutoring French and English in Romania
3 years of tutoring in France

This total immersion in a French environment with native speakers hugely contributed to my understanding of the French culture and behaviour, as well as their way of addressing and solving matters.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor, I consider the student's progress even after a few lessons to be the most important aim and reason for my work.

The pleasure I take in teaching foreign languages comes especially from my wish to instill into my students a love for the beauty and mystery of a new linguistic field and new semantic world. One of my biggest contentments is to share my knowledge and interest with them and then acknowledge their progress in this domain. My purpose is not only to work with passion but also to enable my students to enlarge their horizons so they are able to quickly compare, assimilate and develop their swiftness when communicating in a foreign language.

In other words, I target with priority:

-the valorization of the student's potential,
-the diversity of the amount of information that each student assimilates
-the enthusiasm and the interactive atmosphere during the lessons

I find that the level at which each student begins with is not important as long as there is a visible progress between the start and the finish of the tuition.

The basis of my lessons consists of the notions which everyone needs in order to know a foreign language, aspects related to the cultural and the real life and the attention on the typical rules of the foreign language.

With delight and interest I concentrate on the efficient use of a variety of media (songs, short films, films, books, newspaper articles, literature) which could animate the lessons.

My eagerness and determination to learn and teach foreign languages (French, English and Italian) developed my interest in analyzing, comparing and synthesizing information as well as enabling me to discover various methods of teaching a considerable amount of knowledge. Through assiduity and responsibility I managed to find the path towards mastering these foreign languages and teaching them with enthusiasm.

Foreign languages are a source of mystery, a mix of rules and originality, a mine of meanings and linguistic surprises, a challenge. I've always found them a very absorbing and fulfilling but sometimes frustratingly vast field which attracts and challenges to a thorough study and wider analysis.

I learned that paying close attention to quality of all my work and grasping opportunities to learn new skills must be prioritized by professional workers.

References :

1) "The first thing that struck me (as an American native speaker) is the remarkable fluency of her oral and written French, which is of a very high academic calibre.
I appreciated her openness and intellectual acuity. In short, it was truly a pleasure to have her as a tutor.
I was also impressed by her discretion, politeness and ability to work with her students and encourage them to progress and love French as one of the most beautiful language in this world."
Jessica G. 24 years old

2) "I find Giorgiana's teaching method easy to follow, however thorough. She very well manages to alternate my two languages (English and Romanian) and make references to the similarities between my languages and French. This helps me understand better because she can then refer to a rule in a language that also applies in French and I can use that to remember the French rule better. After she shows me something, she always ensures that I have taken in the lesson and have listened carefully, testing me on what she has just taught me. To consolidate the learning, she regularly gives me work to complete before our next lesson. Thanks to Giorgiana's tuition, I am now ahead of my class and my teacher is very impressed!"
Maria R., 12 years old student.

3) "I noticed she was a very intelligent person, motivated, with genuine working aptitudes, treating the teaching profession with the maximum of responsibility and seriousness. She belongs to that category of people with a high spirit of undertaking interesting and useful methods, updated in her domain and in other fields as well.
She really has pedagogical tact, knows how to adapt to the public and catch its attention through a mix of gentleness, patience and amiability."
Anthony M. 19 years old
