Personal Description:
I am an innovative and enthusiastic fully qualified Teacher of Physics, living in Durham but teaching in Newcastle. I have a flare and passion for science and am fully CRB (security) cleared for my current full-time teaching post.

Coming from Ireland originally, I spent 9 years studying and working in the North East before moving to London in 2010 to take up a promotion. Having got married in Newcastle last year, my wife and I have relocated back to the North East (hard place to leave!) this summer.

Teaching Experience:

Having achieved a First Class Honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, I undertook a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) course at the University of Newcastle. Between September 2006 and January 2012, I taught Physics to key stages 3, 4 and 5 at an outstanding secondary school in County Durham. In January 2010 I took up a post as Head of Physics at a school in the London Borough of Hillingdon, recently designated "Outstanding" by Ofsted. My teaching has been rated outstanding, my Physics results have been excellent, with KS5 value added judged as "Excellent" using the ALPS (Advanced Level Performance System), being better than 89% of all UK physics departments. From September 2013, I am back in the North East and working as Second in Science at a large secondary school in Newcastle.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel an open approach to teaching and tutoring alike is most likely to make the subject accessible to students. My personal technique involves covering the scientific basics before moving on to further develop knowledge and understanding. In this way, students are eased gently into a routine of learning which will hopefully guide them to success in their upcoming assessments.

Personal Description:
I am an accountant by profession (FCCA) but my main passion is inspiring children to become achievers! I am friendly, professional and can relate to children in a very exceptional way - through humour, understanding and teamwork.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a Maths Tutor for over 8 years. All my students have developed a love for Maths. Once the student has been taught the basic foundations and then realises that that there are several methods to use to solve a problem and finds one to suit them, they find Maths a challenging game and it becomes fun and rewarding. I have significantly raised students' grades.

Tutoring Approach:

I became a tutor because I believe that, by teaching a child how to focus and be interested in something as important as education, they can achieve the satisfaction and pride in obtaining very high grades. The experience teaches them a very valuable lesson in life: anything is possible with hard work and if your attitude is attuned to enjoyable, it's not work! It's just getting to where you want to be.

Personal Description:
I am a Norwich based fully qualified teacher available to teach Spanish and Danish. I moved to Spain from Denmark with my parents when 8 years old. Since the local private English School was oversubscribed I was sent to a mainstream Spanish school. A shock to the system but I am so happy that this experience taught me Spanish with the right grammar, spelling and pronunciation. Something I could have not learned in the most accomplished language school. It was the real stuff with the real sun, beach, culture and food. 10 year later I moved back to Copenhagen/Denmark and 6 years down the line to England. In London I gained my degree and PGCE in order to become a fully qualified Teacher

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully qualified teacher with 10 years experience. I offer following:

SPANISH TUITION: Lived ten years in Spain and gone through the Spanish schooling system. As it was not my mother tongue I can relate to the challenges that come with learning a new language. Have taught from beginners to more advanced.

DANISH TUITION: I have had great success in using my ten years teaching experience to teach my mother tongue. Once again it can be at any level from beginners to advanced.

Tutoring Approach:

With my many years of teaching experience I have found that inspiration and discipline is key. A balance in between the two make a great student that will be able to take these skills to a professional level if they wish. Moreover, I believe everybody has got the ability to learn a language if they are willing put in the work. My approach is mainly based on conversation as I have found again and again that this will not only help the students vocabulary but their grammar as well. Last but not least I offer a friendly and relaxed teaching environment.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic and motivated Tutor, and a trained English Teacher with a PGCE from Strathclyde University. I have a working knowledge of the new curriculum for excellence and qualifications.

I am also a professional playwright and I have an Undergraduate in Scottish/English Literature and Language and a Postgraduate in Scottish Studies (Literature, Language, History and Theatre), both form the University of Glasgow.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring English one to one for approximately 10 years, and drama tutoring for 15. I previously ran a theatre company which itself has strong ties with education (workshops) and teacher training (using Drama as a tool to educate), and am kept up to date and involved in the curriculum and new teaching strategies; I am fully disclosed.

Tutoring Approach:

I absolutely love tutoring and am always moved by seeing the difference the support I provide makes. I have a high success rate and the majority of my pupils reach their desired achievement goal. As a testament to this, most of my pupil business is referral based.

My approach is friendly, motivating and always supportive, as well as honest. I am also achievement driven, as this is what motivates pupils. I am here to help you achieve the very best you can achieve.

I tailor my approach to each student, as the learning styles are so vastly different for pupil to pupil.

I cover the English curriculum, Lower Secondary, Standard Grade, Higher and Advanced. The lower school qualifications will be changing soon with the introduction of the new curriculum, and these will include National 4 and 5. The skills levels vary within these obviously.

Critical Essay writing - structure, analysis and evaluation, expression and vocabulary.
Personal and creative essay writing - imagery, structure, characterisation, expression.
Close Reading - Language analysis and evaluation (how techniques are used and what the effect is).
Discursive and persuasive writing, appropriate language, research skills, structure.

Personal Description:
I am a recent graduate at the University of Leeds specializing in Mandarin Chinese and French language with a minor in German. As part of my degree I spent one year living and studying in Beijing at Capital Normal University . During the year I lived with a Chinese family who didn't speak English at all, allowing me to become fluent. Prior to this I studied Mandarin as a hobby and gained a grade 'A' at GCSE. I have also come first in national Mandarin competitions such as the HSBC speaking competition. I was also awarded two scholarships from the Chinese government for coming in the top 15% in a Chinese University.

I also speak French and studied this as a major at University. I spent one semester living and studying in France and once again I lived with a French family. At sixth form I was awarded an Anglo-French scholarship to study in France.

I studied German to A2 and qualified to study German as a minor as part of my degree due to my grades at A level. Whilst studying at University I was awarded a scholarship to study at Freie Universitšt by the German government during the summer.

I have a real passion for languages and have been very privileged to have had the opportunities to go and live in the countries where these languages are spoken and experience the diverse culture each country has to offer. Teaching is something that I am very passionate about and want to help others have the same opportunities I have been fortunate to have.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience of teaching both Chinese to English speakers and English to Chinese speakers. Whilst living in China I taught conversational travel English to a class of 50 trainee air hostesses. During the final year of my degree I also taught Chinese on a voluntary basis at a secondary school near Leeds. I taught the students beginner's Chinese and by the end of the year my students were able to hold a conversation, read and write basic Chinese and have an understanding of the Chinese culture.

In summer 2010 I was a language assistant at a French language summer camp. I taught A-level French to British school children preparing for their A-levels. I was required to talk to my students in the target language, teach them key vocabulary, how to form sentence structures and prepare them for their A-levels.

I am a qualified teacher and currently teach French, German and Chinese Mandarin to 11-16 year old students, so am very familiar with the national curriculum and examination specifications. In 2011 I also completed a module called 'linguists into schools', where I taught Mandarin in underprivileged schools around Leeds. I also have tutored one to one in the past.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is very relaxed in order to make the learner as confident as possible in a stress-free working environment. I love French, German and Chinese, which is probably why I am so enthusiastic about teaching it to others. I tailor my lessons to the need of the learner and work at the learner's pace. I am also quite happy to teach in the target language. I encourage students to speak confidently in all my languages, as I myself remember how daunting it can often seem as a learner. I believe that grammar and vocabulary is key when learning a language which is why I teach grammar structures whilst referring back to previously learnt vocabulary in order to build up a data base of new words. Being able to speak another language opens up many opportunities which is why I strive to help my students do the best they can.

Hello, my name is Katie and I am an American qualified teacher with a Master's degree in teaching from the University of Southern California. I had been a full-time classroom teacher in America for 4 years, and for 1 year in the UK, plus 2 years of part-time supply teaching.

I am currently a Graduate Teaching Assistant, leading undergraduate seminars at Royal Holloway, University of London. Additionally, I have a Master of music (Pass with distinction) from King's College London, and am currently pursuing my PhD in musicology (music history) at Royal Holloway. Though my specialisation is music, I am also highly qualified to tutor English and History.

I am a member of the former General Teaching Council, have had multiple advanced CBR checks, and have also taught several years as a vocal and instrumental tutor in private lessons. Though I was educated in the US (at a top-ten private liberal arts university), I have completed much of my post graduate work in the UK, and have learnt UK spellings and punctuation. I am quite technologically savvy and am comfortable with both mac and pc platforms.

I can help your student with:

English literature

Study skills
GCSE and A-level history, music, or literature
General primary lessons
Homework help

Tutoring Approach:

I am an intuitive tutor who excels at finding unique and approachable ways to understand the material, tailored to my student's needs. As a classroom teacher at a diverse array of schools I gained substantial experience in educating children from a variety of backgrounds with a multitude of learning styles, and I believe I incorporate this experience when teaching individuals as well. I am an approachable individual, whom students of all ages usually feel comfortable asking questions of as well as making mistakes in front of, something I believe we should all be able to do (and learn from!) more comfortably.

Personal Description:
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with Business Management from the University of London (Queen Mary). I have been tutoring since Jan 2006 and I am working as a teacher. I have previously worked as a Teaching Assistant and a Higher Level Teaching Assistant. I have achieved the AAT qualification in accounting. I work for Star Tutors an Education Center that teaches Maths, English and Science at £8ph with small groups of four students. I have previously worked at Chace Community School as a Teaching Assistant and at Nightingale Academy as a Teacher of Business and ICT after being promoted from a Higher Level Teaching Assistant.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently working a teacher at a Walthamstow academy. I have tutored Maths, Science and Business Studies since Jan 2006. I have also taught ICT and tutored ICT after requests from parents. I am registered with the General Teaching Council as an Instructor.

Tutoring Approach:

First of all I have a chat to the student to find out what level they feel they're at. Then give them some questions based on what the student has told me. I will then devise a bespoke plan for the student based on how easily they worked through the questions. I am very patient and take the time to ensure that the student has understood the subject matter before moving to a new topic.

Personal Description:
Educated at King's Collage School, Wimbledon and a subsequent degree course in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at King's College, London, I joined the BBC as a television recording engineer in 1976. I became a successful editor with the BBC and continue to enjoy the same role, now on a freelance basis. Increasingly I have been involved with training. I have had much great feedback which has encouraged me to take up tutoring as an additional role. I am a good communicator and have the knack of explaining sometimes difficult concepts with clear and concise explanations. I have kept in touch with my 'good' core subjects (maths, physics and science) throughout my life and retain a keen interest in all of them. So I'm not just a book-based dry academic but someone who knows how to fire enthusiasm for learning that will never stop and hopefully pass exams that will open the door to the next opportunity. My work has never been Mon-Fri 9-5 so I am available during the working day in term time and holidays

Teaching Experience:

My role at the BBC has involved a considerable amount of training for not only for kit and the craft of editing but also to improve the presentation of an individual to perform well in front of clients, often in an stressful situations.
I have now been tutoring Maths for over a year and currently have 4 students ranging from pre-GCSE to A Level. I have received much good feedback from parents and students alike.

Tutoring Approach:

With a new student I work hard and quickly to identify areas of weakness in the understanding of a subject and repair that damage as quickly as possible. This is essential, especially in maths, as new concepts can rely so heavily on previous knowledge which, if absent, will make comprehension of new material even more difficult. This is presumably why you are looking for a tutor at this time. Homework and attempting past exam questions are essential not only as feedback for me to know how successful any lesson has been but also a way for you (and your parents) to see if any improvement has been achieved. A return for your investment in other words. Get in touch.

Personal Description:
Having completed my first degree in French and German at Oxford University last June, I am now in the final stages of an MA in medieval and early-modern history at Queen's University Belfast. Come September I shall be continuing at Queen's in order to undertake a part-time MA in translation.

Teaching Experience:

During the last two years of secondary school I gave frequent tuition sessions in French and German to younger students. At Oxford I gained two years' experience with Jacari, a charity that teaches English to local children of a different mother tongue. I have also given additional tuition to students of GCSE history in an Oxford school.

I spent my year abroad teaching English to pupils aged 10 to 19 at a German grammar school, and have since instructed a number of tutees of ages 8 to 65 in English Language, French, German and Italian.

Tutoring Approach:

This variety of experience has taught me the importance of varying my teaching approach according to the needs and interests of the pupil. Obviously I keep a keen eye on the intended curriculum or goals at all times, but I am used and open to changing from more formal to more informal (i.e. games-based) tutoring methods as appropriate.
