Personal Description:
Having just returned from maternity leave, I'm full of energy and ready to help students do their best. I am a very experienced, enthusiastic and friendly tutor, with a high success rate with GCSE and A level students of French and German. I love what I do, particularly helping to build student confidence and helping them achieve their best, in a fun and supportive way.

PGCE - University of Newcastle Upon Tyne 1998 (Secondary Teaching Qualification)
I am a fully qualified teacher of Languages and English as a foreign language, with 13 years' experience of teaching all levels.

My work as an assistant examiner for a major exam board, has given me an excellent insight into what is required by the exam in order to gain a good pass.
I love languages, teaching, music and travel.

Teaching Experience:

CURRENTLY TEACHING AS and A2 level GERMAN ONLINE. PLEASE CONTACT ME FOR AVAILABLE SPACES. DAYTIME AND EVENING LESSONS. From 10 per hour for revision classes

I have taught and supported students at all levels and for different purpose: GCSE, A Level, Holiday French and German, Primary French and German.

I have been an assistant examiner for a major exam board for A level French speaking, listening, reading and writing for the past 8 years, so can help to support students for exams and help them to become very familiar with the techniques and knowledge required to gain a good pass.

I have a 100% success rate with students. Last year, all 3 GCSE students gained A* and A (French and German) and my 3 A Level students gained A (French), and 2 C's (from a grade E/U in German).

I have taught online for Learndirect/myself, am computer literate, and have had success with students learning long distance via Skype.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a fun and enthusiastic approach to teaching and I am able to guarantee success at all levels. I have lots of success with all levels, and have been successful due to a variety of techniques, knowledge of exam papers/common difficulties when learning a language and teaching experience.
I am able to get the best out of students, by identifying their learning needs and styles.

Adult learners: I have a very successful and unique approach, which allows adults to understand how a language is constructed and which allows them to grasp the basics of a language and then 'play' with the language by adding new vocabulary and phrases. You will feel confident wiih the pronunciation of the language from the beginning, which is essential to make progress quickly and effectively.

What my previous students have said:

E - July 2012 - Intermediate Adult: I needed a quick few lessons to help me pass a resit at University, I realised this was a pressure on Sarah to help me pass but I had learnt more with Sarah in a total of 6 hours than I had in a whole year. I would highly recommend Sarah to anybody, Thank you Sarah for your help, you helped me pass with flying colours! E.

R - May 2012 - GCSE last minute help online - My daughter says " Sarah is really friendly and helpful and she gave me lots of techniques I can use to revise". Sarah has been brilliant at giving a late boost just before the exams, which was exactly what we wanted. We found her incredibly helpful and responsive and are sure she has been a major part of boosting my daughter's confidence - her grades as reported by school have gone up two levels in the last two months and Sarah has been a definite part of this

S - July 2011-May 2012 - Adult Casual - After having lessons for a few months now I can say that Sarah is a very effective teacher and has the ability to explain things in a simple and easy to understand way. I feel I have made significant progress in my learning and would not hesitate to recommend Sarah to anybody wishing to learn french.

Personal Description:
To introduce myself I am married with two children, a son working in Brussels and a daughter at secondary school. There must be history in the blood in our family as I have a Cambridge history degree, my wife a history degree from Warwick and our son studied history at King's College London!
I remain fascinated by history and always remember the opening lines of J. P Hartley are The Go-Between (some of you may have seen Julie Christie in the film?) "The past is a foreign country. They do things differently there". Recent events underline the importance of our past and understanding how we came to be where we are.

Holidays for me often include visits to historic places. In the last few years, for example we have seen the Vatican, Knossos, Granada and the historic places in New England -Boston, Salem and the Plymouth Plantation. My favourite holiday country is France - because of the food!

Teaching Experience:

Since September 2007 I have been involved in distance learning tutoring Key Stage 3GSCE and AS/A2 history for an open learning organisation. I was pleased though it was mostly due to the students that three obtained A*s and three A in the first IGCSE history examination in summer 2011.This work has included the regular marking of students' essays and other work and support and guidance leading to examinations. I have attended training for the new A Levels.

I can also advise graduate and postgraduate students on dissertations, including proof reading.

Individual tutorial support has been or students retaking examinations, mostly AS and A2 on all three examining boards and I have generally made a positive difference to their results. I do not claim to be able to cover all areas of history but my range is wide. At AS/A2 I can support students covering English history topics from the Tudors to the post Second World war period, Imperial Russia from the Emancipation of the serfs until the 1917 Revolutions and the Soviet Union from 1917 until its ending in 1991. I am also confident in topics in German history from unification in 1870 down to reunification in 1989. Similarly I can cover many topics in French history starting with the revolution in 1789. In terms of international history I am familiar with the key themes from circa 1870 through to the end of the Cold War, including the Vietnam War. I can also cover most themes in American history from the Civil War until the post-war era.
At GCSE and Key Stage 3 I can cover most topics and more recently I have also been teaching a school age pupil with autism. I have an up to date CRB

Relevant Previous Experience

lecturing on modern history (C18 to C21) on both first degree and MA courses.
lecturing on a wide range of further education courses
substantial examining and assessment experience, including first degree and MA level
research in higher and further education

HMI 1989-1993 and Further Education Inspector 1993-2001 responsible for the inspection of humanities including history in higher education, further education colleges and schools, both curriculum areas and cross college.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to students is to combine high expectations with a willingness at all times to help and advance their understanding, self confidence and self esteem and encourage them to work with increasing independence. When appropriate I work out with them a study programme with clear goals.

Many of the distance learning students I have taught have been home based because they have withdrawn from school due to bullying and some are living outside the UK. So I have good experince in working with those who, for whatever reason, have found learning difficult

My work in supporting students who are resitting examinationsbgeins with a, careful review of their performance. I , check the past examination papers and the examiners' guidance from the exmanination websites so as to discover why a student's performance has fallen short of expectations and plan a programme to achieve better in a reset.

However tutors are not miracle workers. I would stress that the students cannot expect me as tutor to do everything for them but rather they also have to make a major contribution in order to achieve success.

Personal Description:
Following education at an ordinary comprehensive school, I graduated with a first-class masters degree from Magdalen College, Oxford. I was awarded a scholarship as an undergraduate for attaining excellent exam results. At school, I achieved the highest possible grade in all subjects I teach, including:

- Straight A's in Maths, Further Maths and Physics at A-Level
- A in Chemistry at AS-Level
- A*'s in all subjects I tutor at GCSE-Level

I now have over 3 years experience as a part-time academic tutor with fantastic results (see testimonials).
Outside of tutoring, I have a great passion for cars: I built a classic Fiat 500 and a kitcar (which I still use today!). In 2011, I spent a summer working for the McLaren F1 team.

For your peace of mind, I have an Enhanced DBS check and am happy to bring along my certificate to our first meeting.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 3 years experience in tutoring maths and science at the following levels:

KS2: Maths (I am experienced in tutoring at this level and have written the class material for a well respected private company)
KS3: Maths/Science
GCSE: Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology
A-Level: Maths, Further Maths, Physics

Tutoring Approach:

There are two key aspects to achieving in academia: learning techniques to pass exams and having a genuine interest in the subject. I believe that I can help with both.

By ensuring that I am well prepared for each lesson, I aim to simplify parts of the syllabus that the student is finding difficult and if necessary, teach in a number of different ways to aid understanding. I can help produce a revision plan for those students who are taking exams to ensure that all the material is covered in time.

The subjects I teach are fascinating, they just need to be taught in the right way. The school curriculum can appear a little dull at times but I hope that with the experience I have gained in a number of interesting environments, including working with the McLaren F1 team and in running my own electronics business where maths and science were essential, I can bring subjects to life in a way that shows their real value.

One of the great joys of tutoring is that every student is different - I love tailoring my approach to get the best out of every tutee.

Personal Description:
I have lived in Colchester most of my life, and had an uncle who was a teacher; this inspiring me to become involved in education, after having worked in other occupations.
My interests include drama, photography, salsa dancing, classic cars and travel. I am also actively involved in a number of societies, including being a committee member.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring since 2003.
I am experienced in 1 to 1 tuition, and have also worked as a part time college lecturer. I currently work as a
training manager (in work based learning in transport), as well as a tutor.
I've also been involved in verifying learning material, and have worked with LAC/SEN students.
I aspire to eventually become a qualified (QTS) teacher.
I am a member of the Institute for Learning, and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.

Tutoring Approach:

I encourage students to input their own ideas and opinions into tutorials, as I feel this can help their learning process, over merely having a tutor "talking", and them "listening".
Basically, my approach to tutoring is like a "two way street", with good communication and interaction between
both parties, which in turn can make the learning experience more fulfilling for the student.
I set homework for students, (where applicable).

Personal Description:
I am a graduate in Mathematical Economics from the University of Birmingham and a Chartered Management Accountant. I worked in finance for about twenty years and have been a governor in primary and secondary schools for many years before deciding to enter the teaching profession. I have been on the GTP training course for Secondary Mathematics at London South Bank University. I am the Instructor of the Kumon Study Centre in Eltham and do one-to-one tutoring in mathematics.

Teaching Experience:

I have 30 students on the Kumon maths programme at my study centre in Eltham. I individually tutor maths students from key stage 2 at primary school right through to A level. I also tutor statistics at GCSE, AS and A2 level. References are available on request.

Tutoring Approach:

There are many reasons why parents decide to appoint a tutor for their child. I will discuss your requirements in detail with you to ensure your child's tuition is tailored to them. Some pupils find the transfer from primary to secondary schooling problematic. I can explain the underlying mathematical concepts and to show them how to tackle questions so that they can get into the higher maths set for Key Stage 3 and GCSE. For older pupils I will build their confidence by presenting topics in a variety of ways and improving their exam techniques.
If one hour is too long for your child, I can arrange 30 or 45 minute slots. I will travel up to 5 miles from Sidcup.

Personal Description:
I'm 28 and a recent graduate Agriculture and International Development at the University of Lund, Sweden. I have a 2:1 (hons.) in Biology from Newcastle University. I enjoy travel and have lived, worked and studied in Japan, Sweden and Chile, which has given me thorough understanding of different styles of learning and teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I worked for three years in Japan as a village primary and middle-school English teacher. Often this invoved planning and teaching large classes. It also involved a lot of one-to-one and small group tutoring. In addition I also undertook private English classes for adults and children of all ages (as young as 2 and as old as 70), including home visits. In addition I proofread essays for graduate students and offer advice on how to improve language and grammar. I have been living and tutoring in London for 6 months.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in a relaxed and informal approach to learning. Stress is an inhibitor to clear thinking and understanding. My method of teaching has always been to encourage students to be enthusiastic and confident about what they do know first, before building upon that knowledge. I think it is important to bring all subjects out of books and into the real world, where it is possible to get involved and enthusiastic about the subject. Every student is different and it is my job, as the tutor, to help people learn in a manner which suits them. I like to mix real-world examples with exam question practice and also with open discussions at higher levels.

My name is Lisa, I have a passion for the Martial Arts and love nothing more than teaching others. I have trained in Karate and Kickboxing prior to Taekwondo which has been my life for the past 18 years. I hope to be able to pass on my experience and knowledge to others. I have a venue available in Keighley and Bingley for private tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

4th Dan Black Belt in the Martial Art of Taekwondo with over 15 years experience of teaching. I hold the 3rd Class Foreign Instructors qualification from completing my training at the World Taekwondo Headquarters in Seoul, South Korea.

I have additional qualifications in the fitness industry where I formally worked as a Gym Manager.

I offer private 1-1 tuition in self-defence and Taekwondo; I also teach Martial Arts to young people as part of West Yorkshire Police's Safer Schools initiative and have experience of teaching women's groups, young people in community organisations and individuals.

Tutoring Approach:

I am keen to be able to help others and pass on my knowledge and experience. I will teach you basic techniques to keep you safe & which work. Be aware that some instructors may show you fancy techniques but these aren't realistic in a dangerous situation, the key is to make you feel more confident, more aware and feel able to deal with a situation effectively should one arise. The basic techniques are the ones you can learn and master and which will hopefully keep you safe. It's not about strength but about technique and being knowledgeable in a situation.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly, calm and patient teacher with a variety of experience that I am able to bring into my classroom by day, and in tutoring outside of school hours. I have worked with students from primary to university level, as well as tutored adult ESL students during my time living abroad.

As a secondary school teacher, I have high expectations of my students and like to push them to their full potential and keen to inspire confidence and faith in their ability. I thoroughly enjoy working with students one to one when I am able to personally tailor teaching to the learner's level at a pace that suits them. I currently work in a successful 'outstanding' school, therefore, I have a very strong English department where I am able to gain resources and skills I can bring to my tutees.

I am passionate about inspiring confidence and belief, and love exploring my subject with others; opening their minds to alternative approaches and guiding the way. I use a lot of humour in my lessons and like to create a calm, relaxed and enjoyable environment and get to know my students as individuals. Having spent much time with a personal tutor at GCSE to overcome my fear of Mathematics as a teenager, I have a personal understanding of the empathy and patience required by a tutor, as well as a passion to enable my tutees to reach their goals and develop confidence in themselves.

Teaching Experience:

After graduating from Roehampton University with a 2:1 in English Literature and Theatre Studies, I went on to work as a Teaching Assistant in SEN working with students with a range of needs, but focused on teaching students with Dyslexia/Dyspraxia, which then became my research focus for one of my assignments during my PGCE teacher training.

I have since taught in a wide range of schools; I left Britain to work abroad in an IB international boarding school, PTIS Chiang Mai, as a Boarding Houseparent and ESL/SEN teacher, as well as tutoring seniors completing their final IB projects. In the evenings, my responsibilities included tutoring boarders aged 9 - 19 for all subjects. After my one year internship, I taught in a British international school for two years, Varee International Chiang Mai, where I taught KS3/4 IGCSE English and SEN and was lead assessor for entrance tests for ESLstudents. I also tutored adult Thai learners English outside of my school hours as part of a language exchange to help me to develop my Thai.

Since returning to the UK, I have taught KS3/4 History and Geography, and now KS3 - KS4 English in an outstanding secondary academy in West London.
I am a flexible teacher in terms of subjects covered, but English/literature, grammar, ESL and study skills are my core areas.

Tutoring Approach:

When I first meet a new student, I conduct an initial assessment to be able to adapt my lessons to the individual needs of the student.
I have very high expectations of my students, so push when they feel like 'giving up', but practise compassion when they need support and encouragement. With confidence and patience, they can find a way.
I may on occasion set small homework tasks (if the student does not have too much with their school already) to continue learning between sessions. I will often ask a student to e-mail this to me before our next session so I can give feedback and work on mistakes for our next session, thus maximising learning in our short sessions.
I have a fun approach to my teaching as this is vital to engage young learners, as well as for my own enjoyment of sharing my passion for my subject.

Personal Description:
I'm a university educated programmer and web developer with 3 years of industry experience. Most recently I spent the last year working for TES.com, an online education platform for teachers and students. I've worked with a range of technologies that are used every day in the industry.

Teaching Experience:

The majority of my experience has been in the workplace, teaching people new to programming how to write code in a real life environment where results are expected quickly. I've mentored several people over periods of months, watching them progress and being accountable for their results.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm open to the approach that will work best for you or your child. This depends on the level we're working at. I generally prefer to be fairly hands off and allow the tutee to do something practical and write actual scripts and programs to allow them to come up with their own ideas and fix their mistakes with my guidance to speed them up rather than simply watching me do something.

Personal Description:
As an engineering graduate I have a good knowledge of both Physics and Mathematics and how these are applied in everyday situations.

I have been an examiner for the OCR and CIE examination boards for around 15 years. I am an examiner, team leader and principal examiner. This enables me to have a very thorough knowledge of the examinations, specifications and marking process.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught for 17 years in the state sector. I taught in a co-educational comprehensive school as well and a boys' selective school where I was Head of the Physics Department for 5 years. During this time, I introduced a new Key Stage Three curriculum and a new GCSE Physics course. I taught all through the secondary age range from Year 7 to Year 13 and prepared many students for their public examinations.

In addition, I have prepared a number of students for entry to Oxford, Cambridge and other prestigious universities, by stretching the student beyond the content of the normal specification and through preparation for interview.

Tutoring Approach:

My lessons would be individually prepared to suit the needs and ability of the tutee. I aim to include a range of activities and wherever possible include demonstrations, You Tube videos and hands on activities in order to help deepen understanding. In this way I hope to impart my love of Physics. In order to assess the tutees understanding I select appropriate past examination questions and mark these with the tutee so they can learn from their errors and omissions. I very much enjoy seeing tutees gaining in confidence, making progress and increasing their knowledge and understanding of Physics.
