Personal Description:
Iain was born in 1986 in Dundee, Scotland into a large musical family, so unsurprisingly making music was all that he wanted to do from an early age. He first began to learn the trumpet in school aged seven, before joining his local brass band Dundee Instrumental on cornet at the age of ten. By the age of twelve, Iain had been promoted to principal cornet, a position he later went on to hold with several of Scotland's top bands, also including the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland. Many solo competitions were won along the way - including the junior section at the British Open Solo Championships at age eleven. Having gained two Trinity College diplomas before the age of eighteen, Iain took the advice of teacher David James and moved south to study music at the University of Salford, where his playing really began to blossom. Since then Iain has held positions as principal cornet with many of the UK's leading brass bands including his current seat with the world renowned Leyland Band. He has enjoyed many successful contest and concert performances, and is fast establishing a reputation as one of the finest cornet soloists of his generation, performing, adjudicating and giving master-classes as far afield as the USA, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Japan. In 2009 Iain was the recipient of a prestigious Dewar Arts award, awarded for performance in trumpet. This award allowed him to complete his postgraduate studies at Salford, graduating with an MA in Music (performance) in 2010. Iain is now a cornet tutor at the University of Salford where he is also undertaking researchinto focal dystonia in musicians, working towards a PhD. Iain recorded and released his first solo CD entitled "Vanguard" in August 2012, a release which has been met with great critical acclaim and has fast proven popular.

Iain is also an experienced guitarist and teacher of electric and acoustic guitar as well as the bass guitar.

Teaching Experience:

Salford University, Sefton Music Service, Love Music Trust, numerous private students, masterclasses and private teaching all over the UK as well as in the Netherlands, Denmark, USA, Japan, to name but a few.

Tutoring Approach:

Specialise in advanced students, performance, performance psychology, embochure related problems, and treatment of focal dystonia as well as other performance related problems.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored many pupils for Maths GCSE and A-level (Both pure and applied modules) as well as younger secondary aged pupils and years 5 & 6 from primary schools. I can provide help with exam preparations or more general support with secondary school maths.I have also helped prepare pupils for the maths part of 11+ exams. /entrance test for grammar or private schools. I am currently teaching full time in a private school and have over 10 years of teaching and private tuition experience. I have an excellent track record of results, my most recent class achieved a 90% A* rate at GCSE in 2013.

Tutoring Approach:

I tutor in the pupil's house at a mutually convenient time, ideally during weekdays after school or evening though I can sometimes do Saturday mornings. I am very punctual and reliable. I can provide materials such as past exam papers or text books if required. I have successfully tutored many pupils to achieve success in both GCSE and A-levels. I can also help with the maths part of common entrance exams and supply materials. My approach is to get the student to think things out for themselves and enable them to gain confidence as they realise that they can answer questions successfully . I encourage students to tell me if, after an explanation, they still are not sure, so that I can try to explain it in a different way.

Reference from a current tutee :"Andrew has been tutoring my son, Michael, for approximately 2 years . Andrew's input has been very helpful to Michael. Andrew is always pleasant and punctual.I would recommend Andrew as a maths tutor "
Michael went on to achieve an A at GCSE and I currently tutor him for A-level.

Personal Description:
I am an 21 year old third year medical student at Peninsula medical school.

Obviously, my main interest lies with medical science, but I am hugely passionate about biology and chemistry - chemistry in particular - and enjoy sharing this with others through teaching.

Outside of academia, I enjoy dinghy sailing, surfing, fencing, and play the bass guitar.

At A level I gained three A* grades in biology, chemistry, and general studies and an A in maths. I also have an A grade in AS English language.

Unfortunately, due to university, I am unable to offer tuition during term time and am restricted to holidays. For this reason I am probably more suited to those wishing to get a head start before they return to school, who are struggling with the syllabus or who simply wish to learn! I am flexible with prices.

I am a mature individual with a keen sense of humour and love the challenge that comes with tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

Tutored a year 11 boy GCSE maths and combined science for one year (grades yet to be released);
Mentored a year 7/8 in school with reading and writing skills;
Experience in coaching 10-17 year olds in dinghy sailing, both practical and theory.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to instil a passion - or at the very least an interest - in the subject, by teaching both within and outside the syllabus to pass on the (sometimes) more interesting but ignored areas. Aside from this, I have a relaxed manner so that it doesn't feel too much like school to the tutee. If there is an area they wish to know about that I am unsure on, I will endeavour to learn about if before the next session so that they have a certain degree of input on what they learn whilst still covering the syllabus. I will ask the tutee lots of questions, as I have found this method very useful with it requiring you to think on your feet and explain answers coherently.

Personal Description:
I was born in mainland China where we speak standard Mandarin, after graduated from university I moved to Shenzhen, the first city applied Open Policy in China. During 6 years living and working there, I learnt very fluent Cantonese.

At the end of 1999, I came to UK in pursuing further education. I achieved my MBA degree and Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language in UK. During the break between these two studies, I also gained Interpreting certificate which enables me to do the interpreting jobs between English and Chinese language.

Maybe I have a little bit gift in learning language myself? My English pronunciation is rather good so that some of my English friends even said it can hardly tell I am not English from talking with me through the phone.

Hopefully I've reassured you that there is no barrier in me communicating with your child if you are worried that, as a Mandarin native speaker, I might have strange accent in English speaking.

I firmly believe that, language learning, is not just about to learn the language itself, but also the culture. The better perception of culture will certainly enhance the language learning. Therefore, I will integrate rich Chinese culture into my teaching, of course in various passionate ways to make the class full of the fun!

Teaching Experience:

I have being teaching Mandarin for many years, such rich experience has directed me into setting up the Croydon Mandarin school in Croydon. As a specialist in teaching Mandarin, I never limited my role as a business founder only, but with more contribution as a chief tutor.

Croydon Mandarin School in Croydon (every Saturday morning and afternoon);
After School Clubs (Mandarin) in local schools;
Taught adults students for SOAS London University in 2010;
5 years private tuition in Mandarin;
3 years interpreting and translation experience.

Tutoring Approach:

For the learners whose mother language is totally different to Mandarin, particularly for those at very young ages, a fun, exciting and interesting learning environment is crucial to avoid boredom. I will tailor lessons to help individuals to overcome their difficulties; at the very beginning, prior to learning speed, I will make effort to ensure students to grasp the basic of Chinese, in which way, students will be much easier to keep up in the future learning.

Apart from one-to-one tutoring, you could choose to enrol a course in my Mandarin school in Croydon -- £250 annually for 2-hour lesson every Saturday, to boost students potentials.

2008 - 2009 Rosshall Academy Glasgow
2012 - 2013 Lagan College Belfast
2013 -2014 Sperrin College Magherafelt
Presently teaching at Campbell College Belfast

Tutoring

I tutor every day independantly to pupils ranging from KS3 - A Level.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim as a tutor is to create deep understanding and confidence in tackling exam questions in my students. I firmly believe that it is essential to be comfortable with the basics of spelling, vocabulary, punctuation and structure before attempting more challenging aspects such as the analysis of linguistic features. My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style. My teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start with topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and homework to check understanding continually.

I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student's understanding and technique. I also give a lot of emphasis to some of the less obvious but vital skills such as stress management and logical thinking techniques. Where appropriate I set and mark work and give students detailed feedback so that they can improve quickly.
