Personal Description:
I am a secondary Head of Music in the North London area, with a first class Music degree from the University of Oxford.

I have five years of teaching and tutoring experience for both AQA and Edexcel GCSE exams, and Edexcel AS and A Level. I teach and play the clarinet and piano, as well as having studied music theory, history and various other aspects of music to a very high level.

I am happy to tutor school-age pupils to help with their classroom work, GCSEs and A-Levels, and also teach music theory in preparation for ABRSM examinations. I am also a teacher of clarinet for all ages, up to grade 8 standard, and of piano up to grade 6 standard.

Teaching Experience:

- Currently working as a Head of Music in North London, teaching students aged 11-18.

- I have taught for five years at a range of secondary schools, working as both a classroom teacher and as an instrumental and vocal teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to first help pupils work through problems with their existing school work, in order to patch up any difficulties that they are currently having, then to additionally teach them extra things in order to keep their interest in the subject.

I would expect pupils to complete an amount of homework each week, depending on their existing workload, in order to help them to make progress.

Personal Description:
My name is Lesley and I am a secondary school teacher. I live in Norwich with my daughter, a daft dog, three cats and some fish! As well as teaching in a local school I offer one-to-one tuition in English, History, study skills or basic literacy. Students can learn new topics, or get extra help with difficult subjects, in a relaxed and friendly environment. I can travel to your home and will bring along all the books and resources needed! I will charge a small additional mileage fee for journeys over five miles (35p per mile).

In my spare time I enjoy reading, going for long walks with my dog, watching films and going to see local bands.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified Secondary School Teacher (PGCE[M]), with additional experience in working with students of all ages from three to adult. I have taught across a range of subjects. I currently teach English to GCSE and History to A Level locally, but have previously worked with both primary and secondary school children on literacy projects to improve reading and writing skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a friendly and relaxed teaching manner which works well with all ages. I aim to engage students by teaching all subjects using a range of visual, audio and kinaesthetic approaches alongside more traditional teaching methods. I really enjoy both the subjects I teach and hopefully communicate this enthusiasm to my students. I will discuss learning goals with the student themselves, as well as parents, during the initial session, and will assess progress on a regular basis.

As well as teaching history and English, I also offer a short (three session) course in study skills to help students prepare for exams. I will work with students on a range of revision and memory techniques, as well as effective exam skills, to improve exam performance.

Personal Description:
I am a French lady in my late fifties. I have been living in England since I moved there with my husband and daughter in 1992. I graduated from University of Tours (France) in History and History of Art, and then moved to Paris where I worked for the Ministry of Culture for 12 years. I have a strong interest in written language, grammar, culture and history, both in French and in English.

Teaching Experience:

In France I worked for three years as a History teacher (for 18 to 22 year-old) in a private school in Tours.
In England, from 1994 to 2007, I worked as a French tutor at the Hermitage Junior School in St Johns, Woking, teaching French at primary school level as a preparation for secondary school.
I tutored many students for GCSE and A-Level along the years, some of them went on to study French at University.
I tutored uni-students as well, including Oxbridge's.
I hold French conversation groups for adults at home, and beginner course for adults as well.

Tutoring Approach:

I particularly enjoy one to one tutoring as it allows me to adapt to the precise needs of the student. Having learn English as a French speaker, I have a good insight of the difficulties in both these languages: so similar and yet so different. I particularly enjoy helping students for their exams. Catching up on grammar is often more than necessary but being good at language is really a matter of self confidence. It is why I strongly recommend to start French lessons more than 3 months ahead of the exam when possible.

Personal Description:
I am a professional accountant with PTLLS Level 4 teaching qualification, and I deliver excellent, high quality teaching with tremendous motivational effect, and all my students have loved and praised my teaching methods and style. I am passionate about teaching and nothing thrills me more than imparting my knowledge to others. I taught some A Level Accounting students, whose school teachers predicted they would each achieve a grade D, but with my one to one, personal high quality and methodical teaching, they achieved either grade C or above.

Teaching Experience:

From April 2010 to date:

Currently, I provide one to one personal tuition to students taking the following Accounting Examinations:

- AS & A2 Accounting
- ABE (The Association of Business Executives) certificate, diploma & Post-Graduate levels Accounting
- BA Business Accounting
- AAT at all levels
- Business Studies Accounting Modules and
- ACCA Foundation Level Accounting Papers F1, F2 & F3.

April 2010 to March 2012 - Stanfords College UK, Norbury, London and London College of Wimbledon.

I was a freelance, part-time Accounting Lecturer at the above named colleges, teaching ABE (The Association of Business Executives) Introduction to Accounting, Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting and Corporate Finance Papers within the Diploma Levels courses, and ACCA Papers F1 - Accounting in Business, F2 - Management Accounting and F3 - Financial Accounting.

July 2008 to April 2010

I supported a young student who was studying for BA Business Accounting at the university by tutoring her in the Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Financial Analysis and Corporate Finance subjects. As a result, she achieved a 2:1 Grade. It is pertinent to note that the young student did not have any prior knowledge in Accounting. She took A Level Drama, but changed to do Accounting at the university, which makes her achievement much more remarkable.

Tutoring Approach:

In my current role as an Accounts Lecturer, I have adopted a methodical approach to my teaching. The preparation and use of scheme of work, session planning, syllabuses, timetable, lesson notes and handouts helps me in presenting my lessons in an organised and logical manner, and ensuring that the syllabuses are substantially covered. I am confident and positive in my teaching and able to build confidence in the students themselves, which helps in achieving the learning objectives set for each lesson and thereby achieving the overall objectives of the course. I adopt a mixture of pedagogical and andragogical approach to my teaching. I thoroughly explain first to the students, demonstrate a couple of examples, then get the students to demonstrate their understanding, by getting them to do some work themselves.

Personal Description:
I am completely bilingual in Spanish and English having lived in Spain for sixteen years and I offer private tuition in both the Spanish and the English language.

As well as being completely fluent in the Spanish language - Spaniards have often mistaken me for one of the natives on hearing me speak - and expert in grammar, I have the ability as a teacher to explain and present the target language in an organised and clear way, prepare my own worksheets and topic exercises, understand specific targets to be met in the classroom and successfully achieve them. Furthermore, I have a wide knowledge of Spain, its people and culture, which I can incorporate into my classes.

I have taught English as a foreign language to children and adults of all ages and levels and taught for ten years out of the sixteen years I lived and worked in Spain. As well as teaching, I spent twelve years translating and interpreting, and also spent time editing and proofreading all sorts of projects and documents and writing books, one of them a huge grammar book. I stopped teaching temporarily to bring up my two small children but still had continual teaching practice making sure they learnt both English and Spanish!

I know exactly what it feels like to be a language learner; I know what communication problems one can face in a foreign country, having had to do so myself in Spain and France, and I believe this valuable experience and the knowledge I have gained over the years contribute greatly to my teaching abilities and understanding of students' needs, whatever they may be.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience in Spain included teaching:

Toddlers of two years
Primary school children of four years and over
Secondary school children
High school pupils
University students
Company directors, business people, teachers, doctors, engineers and other professionals
Retired people

I have taught individual pupils, small groups and large classes and gained an excellent reputation in Spain, with my students achieving virtually a 100% exam pass rate.

My classes included: grammar, pronunciation, exam revision, essay writing, proofreading and editing university projects, business and medical texts, Business English, translation, phonetics, listening and oral speaking practice.

Tutoring Approach:

I cater for the needs of beginners, intermediate or advanced students, children and adults, and English or Spanish students. I concentrate on the four main skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening but will focus on the particular needs of each individual student. I am able to prepare students for any level of Spanish that they wish to reach: primary, secondary - GCSE, A Level, university level or Spanish for adults.

I operate a pay-as-you-go system (students can pay me at the end of each lesson) so they can have as many or as few classes as they wish, and I prefer to teach at my home in Knaphill, Surrey. My students' satisfaction and progress take top priority. I always ensure they learn at their own pace (and I insist that if students want to visit me in groups, they must have more or less the same level of ability) and I use material and methods that they are happy with. I always cater for everyone's personal needs and preferences.

Students can learn on a one-to-one basis with me, which tends to be the most effective way to learn. However, if they prefer to learn with other students, such as friends, classmates or work colleagues, I teach groups of up to four people. Group work is useful for role-play and enjoyable for students. As my groups are small, each student will still receive a large amount of individual attention and will have plenty of opportunities to take part in listening and speaking exercises.

In my first class with a new student, I will assess the student's language level, what they already know and what they need or want to learn, according to the curriculum they are focusing on or their personal preferences. I use a variety of different resources in my teaching and prepare my classes based around what students need to learn - for example, if the student attends school, we will refer to the text books they are currently following and I will prepare other material of a similar standard - and their own individual strengths and weaknesses, whether they be grammar, conversation, pronunciation or listening practice.

I am passionate about teaching, languages and the written word and I know this comes across in my classes. This means my students gain confidence and progress quickly. I am always ready to give my students a little extra push if I think their learning abilities allow it - but only if they are completely happy for me to do so. I always make sure my students feel relaxed and at ease and I constantly encourage and praise them and make sure they always feel motivated. I have found that my students always make fast progress in my classes, whatever their level, and many have commented on how quickly and easily they have learnt the language with me compared to classes with other teachers.

I am friendly, positive, encouraging and very patient and I have received many compliments over the years from my students, the most common one being how clearly I explain everything and how simple and easy I make the most challenging grammar point.

My classes include: grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, exam revision, oral speaking and listening practice, phonetics, translation, help with homework, writing essays, the use of lots of visual aids and games.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate student from Canterbury Christ Church University, where I achieved a BSc (Hons) 1 in psychology. I am very friendly and approachable, and I thoroughly enjoy teaching, as it is such a rewarding experience to see students gain confidence and excel. I have a real passion for psychology and english, which I believe shows when I am teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working as a tutor for the past two years, and have been very proud to see my students accomplish their goals. I have previously tutored both AQA and OCR psychology A-levels, as well as GCSE English and an access to higher education diploma. Past achievements include raising a students grade from a predicted D to a B, helping a student achieve 95% in an exam as well as distinction for their coursework, and helping a student pass their functional skills English exam. I have also been fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to home-school a pupil in AS-level psychology.

Before I began tutoring, I spent a year teaching weekly psychology seminars of up to twenty students while studying for my degree. During this time I helped students with essays, reports and exams by creating learning resources such as APA referencing and revision guides and report templates for them to use as resources when writing their own pieces of work. I also taught students several study skills, such as how to structure paragraphs using the 'funnel' technique, how to introduce evidence and references into an answer, and by addressing tutor feedback on past assignments. I also ran workshops on qualitative and quantitative research methods, where I would create graphs and flowcharts to help students simplify the process of analyzing data. I thoroughly enjoyed this role, and I was very proud to see so many of my students achieving 2.1's and 1st's as their final grade for the year. In the year prior to this, I was a student ambassador, where I frequently taught English to GCSE level students, as well as arranging other educational activities such as problem solving exercises.

Tutoring Approach:

I have an enthusiastic and friendly approach to teaching. I believe that the key to learning is to create a relaxed atmosphere where the student can learn at a pace they are comfortable with. I tailor my approach to each individual, as every student has a preferred learning method. I engage students by making the session interesting and interactive, so that the student feels motivated to learn and succeed. I also help the student to gain confidence when revising for exams, or approaching essays, reports or statistical analysis.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced, highly qualified and enthusiastic tutor. I am also a published academic recent examples of work for both journals and magazines can be found in the GJSS, an international social-science journal and on mute magazine. Most of my written-work centres around contemporary critical theory, film and literature, with occasional dabbles in politics and economics. As such I am well-read in a wide range of areas and able to teach wide-ranging and seemingly disperate subjects.

I hold an MA with distinction in Literature and Philosophy and plan to start a PHD in London within the next six months. Over the past two years I have lived and travelled in Paris, London, Berlin, South Africa and California and aim always to bring this breadth of experience to any tutor-student relationship.

Teaching Experience:

I have previously taught A-Level English Literature and philosophy to personal tutees, several of whom enjoyed a marked amount of success in their examinations. I have extensive experience teaching adult literacy to groups of up to thirty students. I also worked as a teaching assistant in secondary schools as well as assisting in the organisation of several university-led seminars. As an academic I have given papers in London and California within the last twelve months.

Tutoring Approach:

'Education is not filling a bucket, it is lighting a fire.' W.B. Yeats.

My approach to tutoring aims to combine the above statement with the realisation that one is almost always studying in order to achieve concrete aims. As such I aim to both inculcate a passion for the material studied with an awareness of marking criteria and the setting of realistic goals for each student. It goes without saying that I would aim for these goals to surpassed in each individual case.

I studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nottingham and currently work in Warwickshire as a User Interface Designer. I love languages, and I have always enjoyed teaching Spanish to others, as I think it is a very rich language.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching groups as well as individuals. I have tutored adults individually when I was living in Germany as well as in the UK. I have also taught Spanish to groups from the Hispanic Society at University.

Tutoring Approach:

I am open to any way of teaching - whatever suits the student best. I believe that speaking and practising is the best way of learning, yet make strong emphasis in learning the grammar, as it is the basis to a good use of any language.

Fun and dynamics should be involved in the teaching. I won't be giving you fill-in-the-gap exercises to complete only!

Personal Description:
I am a teacher of Spanish and French with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) living in SW London. I hold a B.A.(Hons) in Politics, Philosophy and History from the University of London and I am also qualified to teach ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages). I have lived in London for nearly 20 years now and in all this time I have worked in administration and finance prior to returning to the teaching profession.

Teaching Experience:

Since my return to teaching eight years ago, I have taught French and Spanish up to A level in several secondary schools across London and Surrey, both in the private and state sectors. I have followed specifications from various examination boards -mostly Edexcel and AQA- for both GCSE and AS/A2, therefore I am very familiar with the exam requirements for those courses. I am also an examiner of French GCSE with Edexcel and have tutored privately many students of all ages and levels in the languages mentioned above.

Tutoring Approach:

I always try to tailor my lessons to the age and needs of my students, make them as enjoyable and purposeful as possible by using a variety of resources and activities, e.g. games, role plays, laying emphasis on learning for communication purposes. My aim is to help students develop their ability to use the language effectively in everyday situations whilst providing them with a solid foundation in the grammar so that they can produce their own language independently. For me one of the most gratifying aspects of tutoring is to see how much students benefit from it and appreciate your one-to-one input, and how quickly they make progress as a result.
