Active family man, who will travel to venues (within reason!)
Prefer to hold 1:1 sessions but will work with groups of pupils too.
Very enthusiastic and always think outside the box, if you are stuck with an idea or principle I may have an alternative model or way to explain it!

Teaching Experience:

12 years of teaching Physics and Science
7 Years as Head of Physics in a very successful school in cardiff

I am currently tutoring in the following subjects:
OCR 21st Century Science Core and Additional GCSE
OCR Gateway Science Core and Additional GCSE
AQA Core and Additional GCSE
WJEC Core, Additional and Seperate Science GCSE
WJEC, OCR and AQA Maths GCSE
OCR AS and A2 level Physics
WJEC AS Level Chemistry
WJEC AS/A2 Level Physics
AQA AS/A2 Physics
Many of my students are currently in year 11 - so by June I will free up a lot more time!

Tutoring Approach:

Will discuss first with the pupil about areas of difficulty
Use syllabus and extract the problems that the student needs to understand
Devise a plan/series of lessons to highlight and focus on the problem in hand, with setting small problems and exercises to be completed. Will also expect the pupil to obtain past papers and bring home material from school to aid the process of discussion.
Hopefully within a few sessions the major problems will be ironed out and confidence will be improved.

Personal Description:
I am a freelance theatre, vocational coach and German tutor with nearly 20 years experience as a teacher, coach and trainer.

Teaching Experience:

My experience includes teaching children at many Stagecoach schools (age 6-18) and for various other institutions and schools. I am a professional theatre practitioner; training others in acting and performance and I write and direct my own productions. I am fluent in German, having tutored in the language (A Level). I lived in Austria for 5 years coaching and teaching there mostly in German.I do a lot of mentoring, vocational coaching, preparing for exams and auditions and training adults, running freelance workshops and courses.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to seek and bring out the potential in each student. I take them at the level they are at and bring them onto the next level. I work in building confidence in speaking and in self-confidence. My students should feel encouraged but also challenged when they leave the class, with very clear ideas about how they can continue to learn. I make a lot of effort to endow students with confidence and have a mentoring style approach which works with the whole person. I am flexible and can work with or without curriculum as necessary or required.

Personal Description:
I am South American; I came to UK back in 2000 and made Sheffield my home city. Nowadays I enjoy my family life as much as tutoring diverse disciplines such as the ones named in this site as well as Nutrition, Running and Football.

Definitely to have the opportunity to offer guidance, support and encouragement to those willing to learn and improve themselves is very fulfilling.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching both one-to-one and groups for a few years now in the disciplines named in this site. I prefer sessions to happen face-to-face but online is also fine with me.

Tutoring Approach:

First thing is to improve the tutee's self-confidence. Then to break down the big barriers into small knots that the tutee can undo with dedication and practice.

I encourage the can-do attitude. As someone once said - we do not know what we are capable of until we try.

Personal Description:
I am London-based, with experience in tutoring English Language and Literature to secondary students from the ages of 13 to 16. I am particularly focused on years 10 to 11 and the Language/Literature GCSEs. I am familiar with the AQA and OCR exam boards, and I understand the stresses facing many students at this point in their academic life.

Teaching Experience:

To date, I have been tutoring part-time, however I would now like to move into it on a fuller basis. I also have experience of teaching English to people for whom it is not a first language, and I can draw on this where some GSCE students may not always have lived in the UK.

Tutoring Approach:

I am extremely patient and understanding of the pressures facing many young people at this point in their academic life. However I will also work to ensure that they challenge themselves to get the very best results, to an aim to building knowledge of English as subject and self-confidence in their ability to tackle and enjoy it.

Teaching Experience:

I have been successfully teaching maths to italian students for many years. I am now tutoring undergraduate students at UCL and people who want to learn my beautiful language, Italian!

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is based on the assessment of learning needs and difficulties students can encounter during their studies. Indeed my lessons are not only customized accordingly to the starting level but also tailored to help students define their problems. I put people at ease to make them think independently and with no fear of failure. Everybody can succeed in learning a subject, it is a matter of motivation and commitment. My job will also aimed to keep the student focused and motivated. Challenging tasks and periodic assessment of the results I think can also help the student achieve his goals.

Personal Description:
I'm a 22 year old medical student at University College London, currently in my 5th year of study. I feel I can be of particular help to A-level students, especially as I have only relatively recently left college and as such have a strong knowledge of what is required at Biology A-level, which has only been enforced by my degree and the tutoring work I undertake. If there is interest in a medical career, I was interviewed and offered a place at every university I applied to and can offer a wide range of tips for aptitude tests (I completed both the UKCAT and BMAT personally, achieving an average of 700 in the former and 6, 6, 9 in the old-style BMAT which gained me an automatic interview at UCL). I am well aware of the features desired by medical schools and am happy to help with personal statements and arranging work experience. I also debated at a high level (part of a team that reached the national final) and so I can offer pointers on good interview technique and public speaking as well. Graduating from a BSc with a high 2:1 and a distinction within my project means that I can offer essay-writing tips with confidence and have the basic science background to aid those struggling with pre-clinical medicine. For those requiring tuition within clinical medicine, I placed within the top quartile for my clinical exams last year and am happy to teach practical or difficult academic points to any medical student requiring some extra teaching or just to mark practice exam papers as previous tutees have requested.

Teaching Experience:

My experience of teaching comes from two main areas. Most importantly, I have now been tutoring in London for over two years and have built up direct experience from several clients, all of which have been successful in their stated aims. Initially however, it was the outdoor environment - I'm a keen Alpinist in my spare time and take large groups mountaineering in Scotland where I teach them the skills they need in the mountains, the trip now entering the fourth consecutive year. This takes patience and careful observation in potentially dangerous and occasionally stressful situations which I feel transfer well to helping tutees in the more comfortable environment of London.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to start off with a short session free of charge to get to know my tutee over half an hour and to look at what they want from the tutoring, as well as finding out which exam board they are on. I would return with a tailored strategy to teach each individual but it would typically involve the repeated use of past papers, which are then returned with feedback and a chat about exam technique interchanged with some focus on areas of the exam board specification the student is experiencing difficulty with. I like to make sessions last 1-2 hours with short breaks in between to maintain concentration. For interview practice, I will work with the student to prepare for their specific university choices then ask them to come to UCL where I book a room and assemble a mock interview panel from suitable friends to simulate the event out of their comfort zone. For university students, it is more free-form. Often the tutee will email during the week to let me know what they would like the session on based on problematic areas found during revision, otherwise I assemble a series on areas that students usually find difficult.

It brings a lot of interesting challenges and the idea of working with individuals to develop their natural skills is really what I look forward to when at work.I graduated from Russian Pedagogical University and have BA degree in languages.

I try to make the subjects easier to learn, finding individual ways and approaches to the tutee. I can teach both from my or tutee's home.

Personal Description:
I am currently in the final year of an Astrophysics PhD at UCL, which I began in 2010. Prior to this I obtained a first class MSci in Physics with Astrophysics at the University of Bristol. I hope to continue in an academic career when I complete my PhD, since I enjoy both teaching and research.

Teaching Experience:

I have two years of experience tutoring students ranging from year 9 up to university level. In addition, I have spent four semesters demonstrating in undergraduate Physics labs at UCL for one afternoon per week. I also have experience marking undergraduate problem sheets and exam papers, which helps me to advise students as to how they should approach their own exam preparation.

Tutoring Approach:

The ultimate goal of my previous students has been to achieve a certain exam grade or to pass an entrance exam. I think the key to preparing for exams in mathematical subjects is practice and so I aim to give students the confidence to answer questions on thier own. My approach to tutoring has therefore been to cover subject matter that the student is perhaps less confident with, before tackling exam-style questions in order to apply what they have learnt.
