Personal Description:
I am currently a Research Fellow in the department of Sociology at the University of Essex. I did my undergraduate degree in Contemporary Literature at the University of Bari (Italy); then I took an MA in Communication, Culture and Society at Goldsmiths College-University of London, and obtained my PhD in Sociology (ESRC funded) at the London School of Economics. Before joining the Department of Sociology at Essex, I was a Lecturer in Sociology at Birmingham University and in the School of Applied Social Sciences at Durham University.

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced teacher at undergraduate and graduate levels. In my career as a Lecturer in Sociology I designed and convened modules such as: 'Visual Culture', 'Gender and Sexuality', 'Politics of Representation', 'Cultural Research Methods', 'Media, Culture and Society' and 'International Communications'. Moreover, I have substantial experience of teaching social theory, having taught theory modules such as: 'Sociological Theory' (LSE), 'Modern Power/Modern Knowledge', 'Critical Readings', 'The Enlightenment and its Legacy: Introduction to Modernity and Postmodernity' (Goldsmiths), 'Issues in Contemporary Sociology' (LSBU), 'Self, Identity and Society' (Durham), 'The Body' (Essex). Additionally, I have extensive experience in teaching research methods. My main interest is in qualitative methodologies and in particular visual methodologies (visual/discourse analysis, visual ethnography, photo-elicitation, visual content analysis, etc.). My teaching experience has also included the setting and marking of coursework and exams, and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations.

Tutoring Approach:

I have undergone extensive training in pedagogy during his Teaching Accreditation Programme at the London School of Economics. I have taught to students coming from the most diverse backgrounds (in terms of gender, sexuality, class, ethnicity, religion, and different abilities). In my teaching practice, I make all possible efforts to create the most inclusive learning environment in which individual abilities and experiences are respected, and understood as resources rather than obstacles to the collective learning. I always try to teach my modules in innovative and student centred ways and I strive to make my teaching as exciting as I can. I regularly employ information technology as a teaching and learning tool.

Plan and carry out lessons
Keep records of students grades
Set students targets either in a formal or informal setting. Eg parents evening or informal meeting with parent
Attended parents evening
Mark children in yr 11 course work
Have extra sessions for children who are behind in their coursework
Mark student's class work coursework, record their grades and plan based on weak and or strong areas identified
Ensure that students work to their full potential
Work closely with department heads and head of the years that I teach to monitor the student development in different areas

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is an investigative and supportive. ie their is a lot of logics or knowledge that I child sometimes laready have, by questioning sometimes these will come out. That way the child will remember the information fo a longer time as he/she contributed to the answer. She/he feels valued and a part of the teaching and learning process.
Each child I tutor is alway given a diagnostic test. From the test I would do a Individual Learning Plan. During tutoring as I identify weak areas I address them individually. I see education as a completed chain link, that is if a child is lacking in certain background knowledge, they will find it difficult to move forward effectively with their education. Unless these weak areas are address and their knowledge concretize they find it difficult to move on.
Parent's feedback is apart of this process and children must be praised throughout their learning, when neccessary and this needs to be done in context.

Personal Description:
I tutor Mathematics up to GCSE standard, as well as General Science to Common Entrance.

I graduated from secondary school in July 2011, and am now studying the Linguistics BA course at the University of Cambridge.

As a recent school leaver, I have an understanding of what it takes to achieve success in public examinations. I can provide a different perspective and more personal style of learning to a traditional classroom environment.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring professionally, with particular focus on mathematics, for about six months. As the eldest sibling in my family I have spent many more hours helping my younger brother and sister across a variety of subjects.

In addition, I have worked at Young Epilepsy (a leading national centre for young people with epilepsy), helped out with the junior section at my local cricket club, coached cricket professionally further afield and previously volunteered at my school in running a weekly special needs computing club.

Tutoring Approach:

To ensure that I am able to fully commit to helping my tutees progress while studying full time at a world-leading university, I maintain a small clientele. Unfortunately, as a result I often have to advise those interested that regretfully I cannot accept their request.

At present, I only tutor one-to-one, as crucially this makes the lessons distinct from being taught in a group environment.

Personal Description:
I have a Bachelors degree (First Class Honours) in Medical Laboratory Technology and a Masters degree in Biomedical Science. I passed my senior secondary examination with five A's (English, Core Mathematics, Chemistry, Integrated Science and Social Studies) and three B's (Biology, Physics, Elective Mathematics). I am currently a PhD student at UWE Bristol. I am very hard-working and love to help my colleagues to succeed.

Teaching Experience:

I have successfully taught Grade 2 (5-7) pupils for one year and I had very positive feedback from parents and my superiors. I also taught grades 5 and 6 pupils on one-to-one basis for more than a year with very good results.
I was a Peer Assisted Learning Leader for two years during which I assisted many secondary school (equivalent to GCSE and A Level) mates and juniors to develop a better approach to learning Maths, English, General Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. I also have vast experience in one-to-one and group teaching at the university level.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that academic success is a combination of hard work, determination and development of a positive approach to learning. I also understand that we all have different academic needs so I spend time with the student to understand his/her weaknesses and strengths in order to develop a better teaching strategy for him/her. I combine both theoretical and practical approach to help my students appreciate the subject under discussion in order to succeed. In summary, my greatest reward is to see my students smile at the end of the day.
