Personal Description:
My names Will, I am a recent graduate of the University of hertfordshire, studying music. I've been a percussionist since about the age of 8 and started playing the kit when I was about 10/11. I believe in methodical practicing; focusing on specific techniques and concepts, and not progressing till they are mastered. I like to make the learning experience as musical as possible, so I often have my pupils playing to backing tracks, of my own piano accompaniment. Piano is my other instrument. My main, preferred style of drumming is jazz. Jazz fusion being the strongest sub-genre. I can teach almost any genre apart from maybe heavy metal, as I never took much interest in that, and don't use a double pedal! My main influences out of many I would say are Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, John Bonham, Jojo Mayer and Buddy Rich...

I am also a keen artist, and have studied many avenues of art over my time practicing the subject. After music, it is my biggest interest, and I have been doing it all my life. My area of focus is fine art, but I have plenty of knowledge in other areas. Recently I had an oil painting exhibited in the Royal Albert Hall for the remembrance day.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught numerous pupils in my time as a tutor. With the age range starting at about 8 up to 40 odd. I also took a group percussion class during my A levels, and I'm about to start teaching a fellow student of mine in the upcoming weeks.

I have no formal teaching experience as yet for art, but I have built up a bank of experience over the years, becoming well versed in all mediums and subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching the drums, is to build a strong technical approach through consistent and extended study of the different aspects of drumming and genres they can be used in. I make sure time is taken to master certain elements of drumming technique, but also try to make the lessons as enjoyable as possible, by having an extended library of music to play along to, and also by trying to get the student to explore their own creative ideas, and help find their own voice on the instrument.

My approach to teaching art will be similar to how I teach the drums. I will aim to teach the student all the fundamental techniques I know, experiment with a wide range of media, and help them achieve what I call 'flare,' which some people regard as only being a natural talent, but I think you can find it in almost everyone, If they haven't already found it themselves.

Personal Description:
Before becoming self employed Crofton worked as an industrial research scientist in Electronic materials and Bioelectronics at the Plessey Research centre, then as a Department head (Nanotechnology Sensors) with GEC Marconi in Materials Technology until 2001. He now works as a consultant to the DTI and EC in Medical/physics research during the day while devoting the after school hours to Private tuition. With his previous experience in interviewing prospective job applicants and sourcing funding for research and development Crofton is able to help candidates at A level to present their strengths in university applications and is well placed to discuss possible progression routes.

Teaching Experience:

Crofton offers tuition in Biology, Chemistry and Physics at AS and A2 levels and Maths at GCSE. He is a graduate of University College, Oxford where he gained his degree in Biochemistry in 1975. He has A levels in Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Maths . Since becoming self employed he has worked for over 12 years as a private tutor in the sciences typically teaching 15 to 18 hours a week mainly after school hours.

Tutoring Approach:

Crofton tailors the tuition to the individual needs of the learner, using his extensive knowledge of the subject he patiently explains the fundamentals of processes, thereby helping the student to grasp more advanced concepts. Exam success has resulted for many students through intensive one-to-one sessions, especially through coaching in exam technique by systematically doing past papers followed by intensive analysis of answers with the mark scheme. It goes without saying that the learner's commitment to self-study and thorough revision is the key factor in achieving good results. For this reason the student should be prepared to commit to one hours home work each week.
Crofton has helped many students to achieve the grade they need for admission to their chosen University course, including helping many students into medical and veterinary College where A grades in Chemistry are mandatory. He is experienced in the syllabus of all the major exam boards including OCR, Edexcel and AQA. Many students start private tuition after having been disappointed with their AS results and stay on through to their A2 exams, often improving their grades by two or three places. This works well on the basis of one hour's tuition a week and approximately one hour's homework.

Personal Description:
Although I now have a PGCE in mathematics I have been lucky enough to get the chance to apply my skills in maths and physics whilst working as an engineer in the automotive and white goods industries. It gave me the opportunity to travel abroad and to get involved with companies such as Dyson, Jaguar, Austin Martin and then even allowed me to watch rockets being built in Russia.
I trained engineers and factory workers in the use of mathematical and physics based subjects. Some of those I taught had jobs which involved predominantly manual skills and so they were a little rusty when applying mathematical techniques. This makes me appreciate the nervousness some adults have when presented with a subject they may not have touched since leaving school.
After leaving the engineering world I had a brief spell working as a trainer in the insurance arena and then finally ended up teaching mathematics in secondary schools.

Teaching Experience:

I worked as a manufacturing engineer for 8 years and then I taught engineers and factory workers for 10 years in the use of techniques involving mathematics and physics. After leaving the engineering world I trained adults to use a mainframe software program and then I went on to become a secondary school mathematics teacher. Finally I started tutoring from home working with various types of pupils. Some pupils have special needs, whilst others are working towards an A grade in their A levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to know why the tutee wishes to study. It may be to improve their confidence or to pass an exam. This will then shape the nature of the tutoring sessions. My focus is to provide people with the knowledge that is most useful to them and their aspirations.

Personal Description:
As a post-graduate and former scientist, I have been tutoring chemistry for over 9 years now. I am an easy going, down to earth person with a natural flare for teaching. I really enjoy helping people to understand difficult concepts and I've always found science captivating. I am the kind of person who is willing to go above and beyond to help if I am able to. I have experience with young people of all ages, from crθche to holiday clubs, teaching in schools and leading teenagers at summer camps.

Teaching Experience:

I have enjoyed studying science at university level for over 8 years, during which time I was also involved in teaching undergraduate students in labs and tutorials. Since then I've held a post in a pharmaceutical lab developing cancer therapies, as well as teaching chemistry, physics and biology in secondary schools. I studied for a PGDE to become a secondary school chemistry teacher in 2010 (but had to end the course early due to severe morning sickness). As such, I have been able to practice and develop a variety of teaching methods and I'm up to date with the relevant exam board course outcomes and requirements. Over the past 9 years, I have professionally tutored many students, covering Standard Grade, Intermediate 2, National 5, Higher, Revised Higher and Advanced Higher Chemistry, Revised Advanced Higher Chemistry, Higher Human Biology and first year University level Biochemistry. About 70% of my students have achieved at least 2 or 3 grade jumps since they started tutorials with me.

I have several positive references and a CRB enhanced disclosure, which will be available to view on request.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a friendly approach to tutoring. I like my students to feel at ease so that they are able to ask me anything. I'm of the mind set that no question is too silly to ask. My tutorials are structured and tailored around the individual student. Depending on the time we have available before an exam/NAB, we will identify key areas that the student experiences difficulty with and work through them addressing Knowledge & Understanding and Problem Solving, both of which are key to achieving the individual's desired grade. I endeavour to cover all topics of the course if we are able to, as I often find that there are areas that a student realises they are not up to scratch on once we start to revise it. I create personalised worksheets for my students and we spend a lot of time going through past papers, as well as developing exam/study technique.

As tutition progresses, I have witnessed a huge increase in the confidence that every one of my students hold in their own ability to problem solve as well as understand their given course work. I have often had comments from students and parents that I make things easy to understand and that the student is actually enjoying their course a lot more since commencing tutoring. I try to make myself available as much as possible to answer queries from tutees by e-mail or text, especially in the run up to class tests or exams.

Here's what one of my previous tutees had to say: "Dale tutored me throughout my higher Chemistry course and I honestly could not have got an A without her! She managed to explain the complex concepts essential to understanding chemistry in a way that I could relate to real life. She was always supportive and motivated me to do well. She was always flexible and able to fit in between my busy schedule. Even now when I have issues with my course work at Medical school I know I could drop her an e-mail with questions and she would be more than happy to help out. Overall Dale is fantastic, if you want a good grade whilst having fun she is your best bet!" - Eilidh.

All of my preparation time (typically 2 hours per session), travel time and travel expenses are included in the hourly rate. I prefer not to travel more than 7 miles from home but will still be happy to consider this.

Personal Description:
I`m originally from London and have lived there my entire life (so I have a very easy to understand accent)! I have been studying Computer Science (a very mathematics-based subject) at Newcastle University for almost four years, achieving well above a first and received an award for graduating top of the year. I am currently working as a software developer at an investment bank in the City.

I very much enjoy teaching, as well as the satisfaction of helping a student reach their goal. I welcome students of all abilities, especially those who are enthusiastic about succeeding.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored in the past with GCSE and A-level mathematics, as well as up to degree level Computer Science. I have taken part in several mentor schemes where I supported younger students with their academic problems in Mathematics.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very organised approach to tutoring, with small goals set per session, as well as a long term goal to work towards. For younger students, I feel that relaxed but structured sessions are important, with small breaks so that focus is kept. I also ensure that the lessons are as fun as possible. I always work towards building a good relationship with my students, and encourage them to ask questions without any hesitation. I adapt my approach depending on my students` learning style as I feel this is the key to successful teaching. Past papers are definitely a step in the right direction, as well as looking at the syllabus/specifications for the subject. I spend a lot of time planning for sessions so that my student gets the very best out of each lesson.

Personal Description:
Hi, my names Tom and I am a history graduate from the University of York,
I have loved history all of my life and I really want to pass that on to other people, which is why I would love to be a tutor,
I am really comfortable tutoring history, having attained an A* at GCSE, an A at A Level and a 2:1 BA degree at the University of York and I know that I am able enough to do a very good job,
Spanish was another subject that I enjoyed and which I am also really comfortable tutoring, having attained an A* at GCSE and having previously taught Spanish in a school in York,
I have a CRB Check available, which was completed before working at the aforementioned school in York.

Teaching Experience:

I taught Spanish voluntarily at Tang Hall Primary School, York as part of the University of York's Project Babylon,
Besides that I am quite inexperienced, but I am confident that I would be a good tutor.

Tutoring Approach:

I would try to make the tutoring as interesting as possible by incorporating a range of activities as well as using the subject's textbooks and relevant materials,
In particular, I believe that flash cards work really well, therefore I would create flashcards with the student, before revising using them.

Personal Description:
Hello!

My name is Lorna and I am a PGCE Primary and CELTA qualified English (ESL) teacher, living in Bristol, England.

Being a primary school teacher, I believe that I fully understand what your child needs to know and how to get them there. Whether you are looking to boost your child`s attainment in order to meet age related expectations, or to stretch a high attaining individual, or to guide your child through the upcoming SATs period, I am positive that I can help!

I am currently working as a Supply Teacher in Primary schools and have lots of experience teaching the current curriculum in KS1 and KS2. I have also taught students through their SAT`s (Year 6 and 2), and have a very good track record of seeing big improvements quickly. I specialise in English and maths, but am very able and happy to help with any topic within the curriculum too.

By nature, I consider myself to be very approachable and friendly. I have a real passion for working with children and I take pride in developing a trusting and productive working relationship with both student and parents/carers. I am truly excited to work with new clients and look forward to meeting you soon!

I hope to get to know you and help in your learning journey!

Teaching Experience:

I completed my PGCE Primary 5-11 at Bath Spa University and have since been working as a Supply teacher in Primary schools across Bristol. I have lots of experience in teaching all age groups from EYFS through to KS2, including SATs preparation and intervention groups to help students reach age related expectations (ARE).

Prior to teaching in the UK, I taught English in Europe and Hong Kong, which I absolutely loved. I have a lot of experience in preparing engaging private lessons, tailor made to the needs of the student. I have experience teaching Business English in Belgium on a 1:1 basis, and also group and private lessons for IELTS preparation.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a firm believer that lessons should be interactive rather than passive, and I take a lot of pride in designing quality programmes for each of my students, which allows them to make steady, rapid progression.

I am friendly, approachable and very reliable, and have a true passion for working with children.
