Personal Description:
I have been told that I am a passionate, encouraging and dedicated tutor.

"Edward helped both me and my daughter with Maths tuition this year, for GCSE higher level and IGCSE respectively. We both made excellent progress and grew in confidence with help and encouragement from Ed, who combines an easygoing manner with an extremely serious and professional approach to teaching his subject. Ed is able to get right to the heart of a student's confusion very quickly and to give clear and well-illustrated explanations. I couldn't recommend Ed more highly."

Teaching Experience:

I hold a 1st Class degree (Bsc) in Mathematics from Durham University and have been tutoring full-time since September 08.

I mainly tutor GCSE and A-level Physics and Maths (including further maths) but do have experience tutoring at other levels.

I have taught GCSE mathematics in a local private school and continue to hold 1st and 2nd year tutorials at Sussex University.

I usually hold tutorials at my home in Brighton (please see contact details) but do occasionally travel to the student's house.

Tutoring Approach:

Lessons are informal but focused.

Personal Description:
I have a thorough knowledge of UK NC requirements and continue to work closely with CIE and Edexcel. I am very well organized and try and structure learning so that every student is clear and comfortable as to what is needed to swiftly progress between levels and am quick to intervene where this is not the case. I am a strong believer in making teaching and learning fun, meaningful and thought provoking - encouraging collaboration, presentation, debate and discussion as much as possible. I am an advocate of inquiry based and active learning where appropriate and in making the learning process as memorable and enjoyable as possible. At the same time I remain conscious of the need to constantly maintain the high expectations, pitch, pace and rigour which are needed for exam success in years 10-13. I pride myself on the fact that pupils of all levels and abilities enjoy coming to my classes even though they know they will have to work hard and apply themselves to the best of their ability. I am student centred, approachable and patient.

Teaching Experience:

I have been part of a number of very strong and well organised Humanities departments in the UK, Spain, Asia and the Middle East each of which has enjoyed high take up rates and excellent exam results and from which I have learnt a great deal when it comes to effective teaching and learning. I value collaborative working and the sharing of best practice and am proud of the network of solid contacts I have built up over time as well as the relationships I have built and maintained among staff and students, in the UK and abroad. I take care to keep up to date with the latest pedagogical practice and regularly attend events at the Institute of Ideas and the Historical Association. I am also currently working towards my Masters and am genuinely interested in reflecting on how young people best learn and how to best achieve a balance between exam success and love of subject

Tutoring Approach:

I am always looking to take on board ways in which I can improve what others and I are doing in order to raise pupil engagement and thus attainment and firmly believe that if something is worth doing it is worth doing well - and then improved upon second time round. A portfolio of pupil work, results and student/parent feedback is available. I am aware of the need for stimulating tutoring coming as it does at the end of a long day of study and have a proven track record of engaging students and getting them the top grades at every level.

Personal Description:
I am a professional actor with a first-class English degree (University of York). Over my years of private tutoring experience I have learnt that the two most important attributes for a tutor are a) a passion for your subject, and b) an ability to get on and connect with your tutees.
I have always loved English literature and language (my love for the latter having recently been stoked by taking a CELTA qualification) and combine a real passion for these subjects with a performer's ability to relay that passion.

Teaching Experience:

Several years of private tutoring experience.

8 hours of CELTA teaching practice.

I taught IB English (standard and higher levels) for five months at the United World College of Southern Africa (Swaziland).

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring allows me to exercise my twin passions: arts subjects and acting. I believe there is an aspect of performance in teaching; I can communicate my enthusiasm, and make learning both interesting and exciting.

Personal Description:
I am a 31-year old female languages graduate with a BA(Hons) 2:1 in Modern European Languages from Durham University and a Trinity CertTESOL certificate.. I am approachable and friendly. I believe everyone has the capacity to learn a language and my job as a tutor is to help unlock that potential so you enjoy the learning experience.

Teaching Experience:

I've previously tutored French up to GCSE level and Spanish and Italian up to A-Level standard. I am a TESOL qualified English teacher with experience working abroad and have also tutored primary school children in languages.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to tailor my approach to the student, depending on their age, level and what they hope to get out of the sessions, as well as their preferred learning style. For younger children I would tend to include more activities, whereas for students studying for exams I would focus more on helping with coursework, revising topics covered in class, and exercises.

Personal Description:
I am very family orientated, being married with a wonderful son . Because of the pivotal part that my family plays in my life, it has enhanced my understanding of just what an important job it is that I do for other families, when they look to ensure that their children have the best start to life in aiming for 11+ success.

Private Tuition in the field of 11+ guidance has evolved into my passion has now become my sole occupation. My husband and I teach as a team and, together, we can now say that the past three years has seen tremendous results. The past two years has seen a 90% success rate return.

I am trust worthy, honest and passionate about my job. I know that I possess a skill in teaching to an incredibly high standard, and I enjoy making a difference to young people's lives, especially in the field of 11+ preparation.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for almost 15 years now. I have worked in both primary and secondary schools. I worked full time until I had my son and then was fortunate enough to be able to go back to work part time. Recently, due to the success of my private tutoring, I have been able to give up working in mainstream schools and focus solely on my private tuition work where I work with students solely looking to go to Grammar School.

Tutoring Approach:

As engaging and as fun as I try to make my sessions, I am well aware of the crucial need to fundamentally ensure that students are prepared in every way for 11+ success.

Personal Description:
I am a 22 year old who is currently working at RWS translations group in Chalfont St Peter. I have recently graduated from Durham University with a 2.1 BA in Modern Languages (French and Italian). I also studied Spanish up to 2nd year. I enjoy speaking different languages and try to pass on my enthusiasm for languages to others.

Teaching Experience:

My third year at University was spent abroad. I chose to teach in France for 7 months in two primary schools which I very much enjoyed. I loved to chat to the children and try to get them to see the importance of learning English. I also au-paired for three months in Italy during my Year Abroad, which involved private lessons with a 7 year old. I have also previously tutored French, which included exam preparation, focusing on problematic areas and improving confidence. I understand how difficult languages can be, I believe I can sympathise with the student. The lesson must be fun and the student needs to understand the importance of learning a language, in order to be enthusiastic about it.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe languages are crucial in education. Throughout university I took part in Routes into Languages, a consortium of universities working together with schools and colleges, to enthuse and encourage people to study languages. This role involved planning taster classes for small groups, introducing a new language into their education and broadening their knowledge of the world and different cultures. I particularly enjoyed this role as I was enable to communicate the importance of languages and perhaps inspire some of the children to carry languages on past year 9.

Personal Description:
I am an Undergraduate studying Medicine at Imperial College London.

I am extremely passionate in the Sciences and Mathematics (ever since I was a child, as weird as that sounds.) and I've always enjoyed helping my peers and juniors improve and excel in these subjects.

I have 7 As on my A Level Diploma. Throughout Junior College, my passion made studying interesting and I managed to obtain Straight As in Bio, Chem and Maths for a total of 6 in-school exams, and was consistently in the top 5% for each subject.
Also, I got Distinction for my extra credit- H3 Advanced Organic Chemistry.

I'm a Chinese from Singapore, but I speak English fluently since English is my first language and will have no trouble holding classes in English!
Also, I have a very cheerful, quirky disposition and I try my best to be friendly with everyone that I meet!

Teaching Experience:

I have almost 4 years of teaching experience with A Level Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics in my home country, Singapore.
Of formal private one-on-one tutoring, I tutored a Junior College 1 student in H2 Chemistry and Mathematics for 1 year. After coming to the UK, i have had 2 more tutees whom i taught H2 Chemistry and H2 Mathematics.
I've also been involved in tutoring my peers and juniors in A Level Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology throughout my Junior College years.

Tutoring Approach:

Most importantly, I try to identify the weak points my students have, and try to focus most of my efforts to target their weaker areas. I want to ensure that my students are confident in all areas of the subject and that they get sufficient practice in all topics.
Also, I consistently watch out for any fundamental errors in understanding which may be impeding my student's progress and interest in the subject.

During the lesson, I ensure that I have sufficient material to give my students more practice and also, thoroughly explain or teach any concepts that my student may not have fully understood in school.
Most of all, I try my best to make tuition lessons fun and interesting so that my students will find studying enriching, rather than as a chore.

Personal Description:
I'm an expat Canadian whose been living in the UK for nearly 5 years now. I've been in the teaching industry since 2008 when I graduated from teachers college, and have experience teaching children, teens, and adults in Canada, Britain, Korea, Thailand, and Spain. I've travelled to most places in Europe, Asia, and South East Asia, and am hoping to continue my travels soon. I'm also a yoga teacher and daily practitioner as yoga is definitely a passion of mine. I have ideas of taking more yoga teaching courses as well as holistic health courses in the future in order to add to my repertoire of teaching skills.

Teaching Experience:

I received my Bachelors of Education in Primary-Junior Education in 2008, and then had 2 years of substitute teaching experience in both Canada and the UK. Due to lack of jobs in both countries, I decided to teach for 2 years in Seoul, South Korea, which was a life-changing time as I learned a vast amount of not only teaching but also life skills. I then received my CELTA certificate in Thailand, which has since allowed me to teach English as a Foreign Language to adults. I've been teaching at a private language school in Southampton since 2012, with a brief stint in Valencia, Spain, where I taught children at a summer camp, as well as adults at a private language school. Throughout these years, I've tutored a variety of people, including children and adults.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to make my ESL teaching and materials as real as possible since the purpose of English (as a foreign language) education is to be used in the real world. I'm extremely active and creative, and I like for the students to be extremely involved in and accountable for the own education. I run a student-centred classroom where the teacher facilitates rather than dictates. I'm supportive and knowledgeable about the content, but always try to elicit answers from the students themselves. These qualities can of course be transferred to any teaching moment and to any subject, whether it be learning English grammar to use in the workforce, or be deciphering a text for an exam. I would rather give them tools and strategies to use on their own rather than just give them answers that only have value in that one moment.
