Personal Description:
I am married with a daughter of 24 and a son of 21. On occasion I help my husband garden for the elderly and disabled. I graduated from Exeter University in 1985. Teaching has always been a vocation rather than a job as I love seeing the 'penny drop'.

Teaching Experience:

In the last 2 Secondary schools I was a Deputy Head of Science and the Professional Tutor for the school. Whilst teaching I covered the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 syllabus. I then had the pleasure of working in the primary sector for 6 years teaching the Key Stage 2 syllabus. Since 2005 I have been tutoring students ranging from 7 years of age to adults. Education Otherwise gave me the opportunity to teach in various homes during the day. I offer day time tutoring to fit the needs of the individual student.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is informal. I believe students learn best when they are at ease and not under pressure. If students are distracted in their own home I offer them tuition in my home. My students marks have improved by 2 grades and in the last 18 months several have jumped up 3 grades leaving students, parents and myself very happy.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced and qualified EFL teacher, living in Sheffield.

I was born and raised in Sheffield, and studied Psychology at Newcastle University. I spent last year teaching English to school children in Vietnam. Before my time in Vietnam, I taught academic English to overseas Masters and Degree students at Newcastle University.

Teaching Experience:

2010-2011 Hanoi, Vietnam: Teaching English to school children (8-16 years old)

2010 Newcastle University, UK: Teaching academic English to overseas Degree and Masters students

2009 Newcastle, UK: Teaching school children (4-15 years old)

Tutoring Approach:

Our first meeting is free. Here we can get to know each other, and you can tell me what you want from the lessons. (Do you want help with your university work / everyday English / pronunciation / reading / listening /.? Do you want any homework? How often do you want to meet? ). After the first meeting, you can decide if you would like to start lessons with me.

I will then prepare some lessons, tailored to your requirements. After the first few lessons, I will identify your strong and weak areas, and you can tell me what you like or don't like about the lessons.

My lessons are relaxed and friendly - it's your time and money, so you should enjoy it!

Personal Description:
In all these years, I have tried to transfer my knowledge to everybody I had sat down to help with his/her economics and business exams (especially accounting and finance). I have provided, and still do when necessary, tuition to members of the family and friends.
Even in College, I have assisted friends in their maths and accounting courses, aiming at helping them understand the methodology that is behind numbers.
I have high confidence in myself that I can succeed in a private teaching/tutoring role. I have always admired young people's minds, and I believe that a teacher's responsibility is to help them both shape them and enrich them within the frame of each individual's personality.

Teaching Experience:

My current position is Lecturer in Finance in one of the leading private business schools in the UK. I am focusing in those areas that I have had a 17 year working experience. Working in the real business world for all these years is an asset for me, which will definitely help me transfer the knowledge I have gained, to younger people.
I have also been recently appointed by a secondary school, as Accounting tutor for a group of students to assist and prepare them for their A2 Accounting exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I have always believed that the best approach to tutoring is the pen and paper approach. That is, I find necessary for a student to practice as much as possible through exercises and problem solving. And as ancient Greeks once said: "Reviewing is the mother of knowledge".

Personal Description:
Hello, I'm Victoria, I have recently graduated from the University of Leicester and as part of my degree I have spent time living and teaching abroad in both Spain and Italy, as well as working with people from different native backgrounds.
My main passions are learning and teaching languages, immersing myself in different cultures, travelling and cooking.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience in private tuition, teaching English to people of all ages and levels in Spain and Italy.
As part of my degree I also completed a TESOL module where I desgined various lesson plans and activities useful in teaching any langauge.
Being a language student myself, I have invaluable experience in different teaching methods and various ways in which to successfully learn a foreign language.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very flexible in my approach to tutoring. I am open to any suggestions or preferred ways of learning that my tutee's wish to put forward and I am focused on planning the lessons to meet each of my tutees needs and preferences.
I take a very practical and interactive approach to teaching languages, using various resources such as videos and other listening materials, powerpoints and appropriate written materials and activities. I will pay equal attention to writing, reading, speaking and listening as important components to learning a language, unless a tutee prefers to focus on one particular skill.

Personal Description:
Having a doctorate in Applied Mathematics and after teaching at university level for 16 years (still counting), my passion towards mathematics encouraged me to motivate much younger students in schools towards this extra-ordinary subject of Mathematics. With this idea, I successfully completed my PGCE from Institute of Education, University of London and am currently teaching in an outstanding school in North-West London. Here, I teach all abilities and all year groups in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. I am also a tutor for a group of 30 students who are currently in year 7. This includes pastoral care as well as looking after their academic progress. I have been able to develop an in-depth knowledge of the Mathematics curriculum including 11+ and keep myself updated with all the changes happening in the UK education system to ensure that my students receive the correct guidance and support. I specialise in teaching applied and engineering mathematics.

Teaching Experience:

I have 16 years of teaching experience at various level and my students range from teenagers to adult learners. Teaching is my passion and life-long career and I am providing private tutoring for about four years.

GCSE Mathematics: All exam boards
A Levels: All exam boards
Mathematics for BTech and Engineering diploma
Mathematics at higher level, including mathematical modelling

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that every student is capable of understanding this beautiful subject, all your child needs is a tutor/mentor who can understand her/his current abilities, future targets and how best she/he can achieve them; and just guide through to the success. Once they get the correct support and work ethic, they are bound to shine as a star. I will spend time with your child and design an individual teaching programme that suits their needs and abilities. They will not only be able to develop their strengths in the subject but also be able to fill the gaps in their knowledge. As a full time Mathematics teacher, I can ensure that you will get a dedicated tutor who is trained in one of the UK's best universities and is practicing teaching mathematics in one of the outstanding schools in the country.

Personal Description:
I am a Mandarin speaker. I studied in UK since 2013. I got my Master Degree from the University of Manchester. The subject is Electrical Engineering. I have lots of hobbies, football, basketball, magic tricks, dancing salsa and travelling. In my opinion, life is limited, but the quality depends on how you spend it. I am looking for a cool life expenrience and would love to share it with friends.

Teaching Experience:

I taught Mandarin to a British guy for 4 months.

Tutoring Approach:

The most important thing about learning a different language is passion. I would rather teach student Chinese from the area they are interested into than routine staff. For example, their hobbies, favourite movies, musics, sports and so forth. As far as I concerned, enthusiasm is essential not only for teacher but also for student. Also, I would use creative approach to teach Mandarin by hanging out in Chinatown, Chinese supermarket so as to give them a practival experience of learning a different language and have a deep understanding both Mandarian and Chinese culture. After student have passion on learning a different language, I will teach them Mandarin according to different sceneries, for example, topics regarding food, weather and so on.

Personal Description:
Hi, I'm Taylor and I hold a PGCE, an MA, a BA, 2 years experience as a full-time lecturer and over 2 years as a personal tutor, but more of that below!

I'm 28 and work, by day, in film and television distribution. Film is my first love but I am passionate about education and about using mine to help others succeed in building their own.

My particular areas of strength are:
* Film and television studies
* Media theory and production
* English literature
* IT
* Mathematics

Although I am flexible with regards to the subject.

On a more personal level I have a great many interests and these include:
* Sports and fitness - I cycle and run a lot (most recently I ran the Coventry Half Marathon) and frequent the gym around 6 times per week. It is also my intention to enrol onto a BSc Sports Science degree in the near future.
* Music - I play guitar and up until recently had played in an indie rock band for 5 years.
* Travel, arts and culture - I am perpetually fascinated by all things 'Japan' although my appreciation of culture in general extends well beyond this.
* Cooking - I have a particular penchant for baking but take delight in the culinary arts altogether.

I am an open and honest individual with a high degree of motivation, inquisitiveness and enthusiasm and greatly look forward to working with you and/or your child.

Please don't hesitate to drop me a line should you have any specific questions.

Thanks a lot for your time,

Taylor.

Teaching Experience:

Prior to returning to university to complete my masters I spent 2 years as a full-time college lecturer. As a full-time lecturer in Creative Media Production I worked as a member of a small team guiding learners through a large variety of different media disciplines such as short film production, media theory and documentary production. In the last round of observations my teaching practice was graded 'Outstanding'.
In this role my responsibilities included:
Co-leading the Level 3 in Creative Media Production team and course in achieving 100% success rates
Producing educational material for use by team members in multiple topics including 'Short Film Production' and 'Advertising Production'
Delivering 20 hours of lessons per week to 60+ learners across multiple courses for topics including 'Scriptwriting', 'Documentary Production', 'Radio Production' and film and media theory/history
Examination and analysis of coursework in relation to official grading criteria

Tutoring Approach:

The approach that I have found to be the most rewarding has typically been very Humanist. That is to say that I place an emphasis on the learner's journey to self-actualisation by promoting their own sense of achievement, accomplishment of their set goals and enthusiasm for the given subject. However this approach is not exclusive, just as each learner is individual, and so the most important consideration of my approach to teaching is my understanding that effective learning has no prescribed path. As such my approach to tutoring is adaptive and fluid

Personal Description:
Following the completion of my A-Levels in Maths, Physics and Music I undertook an undergraduate degree in Music, as a part of which I was required to also study Maths during my first year. I have been playing Trumpet and Cornet for over 30 years now and have been teaching both Brass and Music Theory for the last 18 years. I regularly submit students for ABRSM exams and to date I maintain an exceedingly good pass rate for all my pupils who decide to undertake Grade examinations in both their instruments and Music Theory. I strongly encourage my pupils to undertake study of Music Theory as part of their lessons alongside their Practical Study, as experience has shown many students attain Grade V ABRSM with no substantial previous knowledge of this area.
As Grade V Theory is a requirement of the ABRSM before a student can be entered for a Grade VI examination on their instrument I feel that teaching the Theory alongside their instrumental studies assists in minimising the delay before a student can proceed to the higher examinations if they so wish. Further to this I believe it also allows them a better understanding of the music they are striving to perform. While I encourage my students to take the Grade examinations as a mark of their progress I am also happy to work with students who do not wish to undertake the pressures of certification but just wish to learn to play or improve their playing ability for their own enjoyment.

This places the element of control with regard to areas covered firmly in the hands of the student in order that maximum benefit is gained from each session while also ensuring that the whole subject is covered.

Hey lovelies! Looking for an Italian tutor? I guess you might want to find out more about me:
My name is Aisha and I am an Italian citizen, who lived in Italy almost all my life. I have moved to England only 5 years ago, so I have a clear understanding of both education systems and I am able to give you TOP tips to pass your Italian GCSE exam!

Teaching Experience:

I am 18 years of age, therefore I am not a teacher "per say", however I taught my cousins mathematics and other subjects and they always get top grades. Therefore why not teach my native language? I have myself went through the process of taking GCSE Italian and I can truly say it is very simple, once you understand what the examiner wants.

Tutoring Approach:

My lessons will be very education and fun at the same time, to enable the tutees to engage with the subject. You will learn about Italian art, history, literature and current affairs. There will be a heavy focus on developing reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.

My first session will always be half price.

Personal Description:
I have been teaching English as a Foreign Language now for some time. I am a fully qualified TEFL teacher with a Merit result.

My students tell me that I am patient, kind and I give lessons on a 1:1 basis to help ensure a focused time is spent.

I have an MSc with Merit and BSc (Hons) degrees so I am fully aware of how studying can be challenging.

Another set of lessons I give are those of homework support, revision planning, exam preparation and assignment writing.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for many many years and over the past year, I have been focussing especially on TEFL.

My students are mostly adults, some are already in work, some are medics (I am one myself) and some are new to this country.

As a practicing medic I am naturally CRB checked and I take safety very seriously.

Tutoring Approach:

My first approach is to listen to my students' needs and establish where their strong and weak points are.

I then create a lesson plan.

We arrange to meet either at my home or at my students' home - whichever is best.

Personal Description:
Well, hello there! My name is Terianne. I am American. From near New York City. I lived in New York City for a long time. Then I moved to Rome and now here I am in fantastic magical Brighton! Well, in Hove, actually! I ride my bicycle to get around, I do yoga, (Bikram hot yoga and other kinds). I organize comedy nights, I write a blog and nothing makes me happier than meeting new people and this is the right place to do it!

Teaching Experience:

I taught for ten years in Rome, Italy at a school called Wall Street School of English. I loved teaching there. The students were fantastic. In addition to grammar and conversation classes, I started a Drama Club and we did shows for the rest of the school at Christmas. I miss it.

I have also taught at Brighton Language College and I have done a lot of private tutoring. Mostly adults or young adults and some children. I have also taught acting and improvisation so my classes are seriously fun. Both serious AND fun.

Tutoring Approach:

I love the English language and I love teaching! English so weird and wacky and expressive. (Maybe you will need a dictionary to look up those words! :-) ) Unfortunately for you, English can be also a bit difficult. I know. But let's not focus on that. Let's focus on having fun, let's focus on the joy of learning and then what will happen is that the silly mistakes we make will only make us laugh. We will laugh a lot and you will learn a lot. That's the best way to learn.

As for me, I am a trained actress and comedienne so I will always keep you entertained and the lessons will always be lively. And I expect you to do your homework! Just because you hire a teacher, doesn't mean you're going to learn: you have to do the work!
