Personal Description:
Hi there,

My name is Jean-Charles. I am a 29-year-old French male. I have been living, studying and working in the UK for more than two years. I worked as a chef two years ago, as a French assistant last year and as a trainee-teacher this year when studying the PGCE French with Spanish. I am now a qualified teacher and I work in a comprehensive school near Reading.
Before coming to the UK, I studied philosophy and French language and literature at the Université de Strasbourg. I have a very good knowledge of French literature and grammar and it has been very helpful to my past tutees.

I am easy-going and I adapt myself easily. One of my favourite hobbies is speaking foreign languages and discovering new cultures.

Teaching Experience:

In Reading:
I have been teaching French in a comprehensive school to pupils aged from 11 to 18.

In Liverpool:
I have been tutoring a mature student to improve her speaking from January 2012.
As part of my PGCE, I taught French from Y7 to Y13 and Spanish up to Y9 from October 2011 to 2012.

In Grimsby:
As a French assistant, from November 2010 to May 2011, I helped primary and secondary students with their French on a one-to-one basis, in small groups and I also taught lessons to whole classes.

In Bolton:
I taught French language -grammar and literature- to a mature-student retired from teaching from October 2009 to March 2010. (testimonial available)

In Strasbourg:
I gave lessons in French to a 16-year-old girl in Strasbourg in the summer 2010.
I also helped two primary school pupils with their homework from 2007 to 2011.

Tutoring Approach:

As I strongly believe that languages and cultures come together, I always strive to work on authentic material and I also give my tutees many opportunities to learn in out of tution context in order to develop their cultural knowledge.

However, for me the most important in teaching is to meet the needs of learners. Therefore, my priority is first of all to assess the needs of my tutees. Tutees may want to develop only some of the 4 skills: speaking, listening, reading, or writing, depending on the use they want to make of French. They also may have particular topics they want to work on, functions of their needs, projects or tastes.

This student-led approach must be carried on throughout the lessons. The role of the tutor is to maximise opportunities for the learner to discover things by themselves because this is the most efficient and enjoyable way to learn.

Last but not least, languages are interesting and fun at the same time. They develop thinking skills as well as they provide entertainment. My tutoring reflects this philosophy. This is why I always try to alternate entertainment and thinking time during the lessons.

Personal Description:
I am the Head of Religious Studies and I have been teaching for eight years on a full-time basis with an abundance of experience relating to GCSE and A-Level Religious Studies. I have delivered four of the A-Level modules offered by CCEA up to A2 Level (Luke's Gospel, Celtic Church, Ethics and Old Testament). All of the students I have tutored have succeeded in achieving A*- B grades at both GCSE and A Level. I can tutor the A-Level modules stated above along with a range of GCSE modules. I am also a Senior Examiner for the AQA exam board.

Teaching Experience:

Full-time (Temporary) Teacher of Religious Studies (2 years)

St. Mary's Christian Brothers' Grammar School, Belfast
Full-time (Permanent) Head of Religious Studies (Current employment)

Tutoring Approach:

I often hold revision classes for small groups of students studying GCSE and A-Level R.E. I tend to work out the revision technique that suits the child best and create mind-maps to faciliate student learning. I have devised my own revision booklets with the key facts on each topic summarised in a manageable way. I work through past paper questions with the students and go through the mark scheme with them to highlight the strengths and areas for development in their work.

Personal Description:
I am 54 years old, I am married with four children. I have a degree ( Joint Honours, 2.1 in Agriculture with Agricultural Economics) and a Cert Ed. I am a member of the Institute for Learning. I have taught a wide range of subjects over 28 years and am able to coach you to success whether you are looking for science, geography, Excel spreadsheets, English as a Foreign Language or even French and German ( I worked in both countries when I was younger)

Teaching Experience:

I can help you prepare for exams in Geography, Biology, Ecology, French and German. I have taught English as a Foreign Language over many years. I can also help you with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, particularly for Business. I am a patient, enthusiastic and committed teacher with 28 years experience particularly with post 16 and adult education. I have taught agriculture and related topics over that time, and very much enjoyed diversifying my teaching portfolio as new courses arose at the college. I have taught a range of biology and geography related topics, including plant and soil science, crop science, crop production, livestock production, environmental issues, ecology, woodland management. In business I have helped many people develop diverse enterprises, preparing carefully costed cash flow projections. I very much enjoy seeing people develop confidence with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, which are an invaluable tool.

Tutoring Approach:

I am convinced that one-to-one tuition is by far the most efficient way in which a person can progress and gain confidence. Often someone can grasp a topic in 5 minutes of one-to-one that would have taken 2 hours to cover with a larger group. Once you are confident with a topic, we move on rapidly to the next one. A current A level tutee of mine told his father "I learnt more in that 2 hour session than I have all term at school" and his headteacher wrote to congratulate him on his improved grades. (The reason for this is not that his teacher is bad, far from it, but a tutor can give you personal one-to-one attention, concentrating on the bits you need) I always ensure that the learners are confident with each step before progressing further.

Personal Description:
My name is Daniel and I currently study Ancient History and Archaeology at Reading University, I am originally from Guernsey and studied at Elizabeth College, for my A-Levels I took Ancient History (A at A2) Classics (A at AS) Design and Technology (A at A2 with 98% in coursework) and Photography (B at A2). I also have some background in french speaking and teaching Sailing.

Teaching Experience:

During my time at Elizabeth College I was a cadet leader in charge of 50 or so cadets, this role involved teaching the recruits various aspects of the curriculum, from theoretical to applied learning.
I am also a sailing and Powerboat instructor, this was paid work over the summer, where I would take children, relatively new to the sport, and within a week have them sailing proficiently on their own.
During these activities I would be teaching young adolescent and the occasional 10-11 year old.

-As a one to one student you will always have the undivided attention of the teacher for the entire lesson.
-All lesson plans can be individually tailored to your needs.
-We can spend as little or as long on any given individual topic until it is properly understood. The choice is yours.
-The 1:1 - teacher to student ratio cannot be beaten.

With education a solid foundation of knowledge must be laid before additional levels can be built upon it; otherwise the structure in question will inevitably fail.

Tutoring Approach:

I would say I very much hands on, first I would read ahead in the curriculum, in order to ensure my understanding of the subject was clear, I would then form a powerpoint in order to provide a visual learning point, whilst I would orate the background to the student, It would follow a chronological order, and would and in-depth background knowledge that would help the student understand the subject matter better, and allow the student to access higher grades

Personal Description:
I am a graduate from the University of Kent - I graduated with a First Class Honours in German. I live in Sidcup (South East London) and currently have a part time job in London, but am looking to use my German skills a lot more than I do currently. I enjoy reading, watching films and listening to music!

Teaching Experience:

During my university studies, I did a year abroad in Germany where I worked as a Teaching Assistant. I helped teach English to pupils aged 10 to 18 and did private tutoring with two pupils. I successfully tutored each of them in both English and German!

Tutoring Approach:

I listen to what the pupil wants, and plan my lessons accordingly. At first, I will try a variety of different exercises in order to see where their strengths and weaknesses lie, and work both with their textbooks and create my own exercises to help them enhance their skills, focussing on where they most need improvement e.g. pronunciation, different aspects of grammar or missing vocabulary.

Personal Description:
My name is Naomi, I am a recent graduate from the University of a central Lancashire. I graduated with a 2:2 in Children Schools and Families. I have relevant and recent experience with children and young people. I have volunteered in a number of schools as a teaching assistant am up to date with the national curriculum. I am a good listener so can listen to and understand each child's learning style. I can adapt what I know to help your child to achieve the best they possibly can. My aim is to give children confidence in the subjects they are unsure about. Once a child has the confidence they have the ability to reach any target set for them.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a teaching assistant in a number of schools bothe primary and high schools. I have also worked in a special needs school where I learnt a lot about the importance of communication.
As mentioned I have a recent and relevant understanding of the national curriculum so know the subjects and areas children need to strive in.
Although I am not a qualified teacher I am aware of different teaching styles and the importance of giving children confidence to learn.

Tutoring Approach:

1:1 work with children is often needed for children to gain confidence because in a classroom full of 20-30 children can sometimes be daunting and children sometimes lack confidence in asking questions. Therefore not fully understanding a subject. Which is why I feel it is important to guide children into their learning style and help them with topics they are studying in the classroom. They can then take their knowledge into the classroom and apply it to the relevant work.
