Personal Description:
I am a hardworking student currently writing a Masters of Science Dissertation in Marketing at Aston Business School, Birmingham. I have been taught in the British system in English through out my life. I had 4 A's and 5 B's in my GCSE's and an A,B and a C in my A levels. I then went on to do my Undergraduate at Royal Holloway University in Management and secured a Second class. I not only have academic knowledge in the field of Sales, Accounting & Finance, Marketing, Business Studies, Commerce and Business Management but also experience and industry knowledge in the above mentioned areas. Being a student myself I know how to explain things in such a way that students can grasp concepts fairly easily and quickly.

Teaching Experience:

I do not have any formal experience in teaching however I did teach a group of juniors Accounting and Marketing in my undergraduate degree to help them understand some of the topics they found difficult.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching style is very flexible and dependant on the students knowledge, abilities and comfort level. It allows an interactive teaching session accomodating and welcoming questions and confusions to be cleared as WE go along. Starting with basics I explain topics that a student is finding difficult to grasp and convey the bulk of knowledge the student needs to know for it and then take questions and help solve problem sets and go over the key points of the topic again.

Personal Description:
I have just completed my 3rd year of Engineering Science at Oxford University. This course covers a wide range of disciplines including mechanical, electronic, biomedical and civil engineering. I have a great passion for motor racing and sports cars; I have built a 'Lotus 7' style kitcar and spent last summer working for the Mclaren Formula 1 team as a design engineer. I also love music and play the guitar in a band at university.

Teaching Experience:

I have recently started as an academic tutor but have been teaching guitar lessons for a number of years.

Tutoring Approach:

There are two key aspects to achieving in academia: learning techniques to pass exams and having a genuine interest in the subject. I believe that I can help with both.

By ensuring that I am well prepared for each lesson, I aim to simplify parts of the syllabus that the student is finding difficult and if necessary, teach in a number of different ways to aid understanding. I can help produce a revision plan for those students who are taking exams to ensure that all the material is covered in time.

The subjects I teach are fascinating, they just need to be taught in the right way. The school curriculum can appear a little dull at times but I hope that with the experience I have gained in a number of interesting environments, I can bring the subject to life in a way that sparks enthusiasm for the material.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge, with a Masters in Philosophy (Distinction) and about to commence a PhD. I am passionate about sound thinking and the development of knowledge in myself and others. I have enjoyed working with students of all abilities, both as an Academic Mentor and as a private tutor.

Teaching Experience:

Improving Choices Learner Mentor at Easton College (2011)
Academic Learning Mentor at Folkestone Academy, coaching Sixth Form students (2010).
Private Tutor in Critical Thinking AS/A2 for two years (2009-2011). Raised one student from an E to an A*. Since moving to Norfolk in 2011 I have privately tutored some 6 students and now have over 200 hours tutoring experience.

Worked for Peterhouse, University of Cambridge Student Access Program.
Worked for youth social enterprise (2010-2011).
Founded and ran online youth essay competition 2005.

Tutoring Approach:

It is important to tailor one's approach to tutoring to the individual being tutored. I intuitively follow a critical conversational approach to tutoring: I engage the tutee in conversation about the issue to be taught, probing their understanding of the area through hypothetical questions and challenging them to think abstractly by posing problems to be solved. In this way I teach in much the same way that I was taught, following the Oxbridge 'tutorial' system of in depth discussion, which moves the tutee to develop their own understanding rather than trying to convey facts for memorisation.

Nevertheless, my recent and personal experience of the British examination system has taught me that intellectual understanding is no guarantee of success. Integral to my tutoring then is an attempt to train the student for the particular demands of the examination room. My job, as I see it, is to hold in mind the content of the course specification from day one and attempt to demystify what gets marks and what doesn't so that my student can tick all the boxes in the exam room, as well as develop an intellectual understanding of the topic.
