I am third year Maths student at UCL, currently hoping to move into professional research following my degree. As such I have a fairly broad knowledge of Maths and Physics, as well as first hand experience of the university entrance procedure; I am aware of what is important for potential students in the sciences, and can tailor my tutoring to this end if necessary. Teaching Experience:
I have tutored several successful students over the past couple of years at A-level standard, and have benefited from the 'mutual tutoring' during my time at university.

Tutoring Approach:
For me, tutoring is not a formal process in the same sense teaching is; Conversation and examples are what I consider to be at the heart of successful tutoring. Any given session would ideally be divided into three parts; a review of the problems posed by the student the previous week (i.e problems they have been unable to solve which they have emailed to m during the week so I can prepare a solution if necessary), followed by a look at the current taught material and homeworks posed by the students school/college. While I will point the student in the right direction with their homework, I will, of course, not complete it for them, or furnish them with my own solution until it has been handed in. Finally, a few small problems may be set to ensure the student has understood the more advanced material covered that may be slightly more advanced than the material provided by the school/college.

A pupil should have confidence in his/her tutor, but also develop confidence in themselves - the line between authority and collaboration is a fine one for a tutor to tread, and one which teachers in a classroom rarely have the opportunity to investigate.
When I am asked by institutional teachers what experience of the classroom and what qualifications I have to authorize the shaping of young minds, I answer: I have been in education all my life. In my past, the two can be considered synonymous, inseparable; and I am confident that they will continue to be in the future, because we learn every moment of every day. It is my belief that if the tuition of school curricula becomes a similar learning experience to those we don't notice so much, like the delay on a local set of traffic lights, or the weight on a new door hinge, or the lyrics of a new pop song, then 'homework' and school altogether becomes an easier pill to swallow. I was responsible for a composite Primary 5/4 class of 22 pupils. There is a diverse range of Additional Support Needs within the class. I planned and implemented programmes of work to cater for these needs and create individualised learning plans to support identified pupils. I also covered other stages throughout the school from P1- P7 on a weekly basis.
I contributed to the development of the school through the school improvement plan. I was given responsibilities and meet with staff on regular occasions to discuss school matters, school policies and school or curriculum development. I was involved in the ICT development working party.

I have been employed as a personal tutor on a one to one basis in Japan teaching English. This was done for about three months between studies on a full time basis.
