Teaching Experience:

I have no formal teaching experience, however I am keen to learn and often assist friends with essay-writing, grammar skills, etc. I think I have a talent for simplifying complex ideas, and for tailoring explanations for a person's specific requirements. About Gabriela:
The principle I most firmly believe is that anyone can learn if they are given the information in the right way. As a writer and teacher, my goal is about understanding the way people work and how to get through to them. Communication is everything, both on the page and in the street, but one must be accessible first and foremost and this is something I strive to achieve at all times. I am where I am today because of my teachers, I appreciate what made me passionate about the things that I learnt, how I was encouraged to approach my dreams without fear, and I want simply to continue to spread this philosophy.

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach a workshop for Creative Writing MA students at several Universities, including Oxford, Birkbeck and Royal Holloway. This is something I have designed and sold myself, based on my experiences and learning processes. Some of my work simply focuses on building confidence, as this can be the main obstacle to success. In the past I have worked as a private tutor in various capacities in the UK and Australia. I have also spent two years in Mexico instructing English and Creative Writing on a more informal level - but just as crucial in terms of result. I have also worked with young teens as a drugs and alcohol educator, which has possibly been the most challenging of tasks - trying to find a way to relate to youngsters in a language that will inform but not patronise.

Tutoring Approach:

Energy is so important in a learning atmosphere and I don't expect what I can't bring myself. I use analogy to help my students visualise what it is they are trying to learn as it is hard to understand what we cannot relate to. My natural love of learning and the subjects I teach, guides me in many ways. But the main thing is the creation of a safe and sympathetic environment. I believe in every one of my students so that they can believe in themselves.

About Vivienne:
I am currently in my penultimate year of my degree in the University of Leicester, studying BSc Banking and Finance. With my degree I hope to either become a trader or an actuary. I enjoy Maths and enjoy helping fellow class mates with Maths problems. I have achieved high grades in maths throughout my life, and I see it as my strong point.

I'm friendly, very reliable and patient.

Teaching Experience:

I help my class mates in college and university with their maths problems. I also have experience teaching children to understand maths also. I constantly teach my sister who is presently 8 years old; I helped her with her 7+ SATs and she received one of the highest grades in her class. I have helped in a primary school from Year 4 to 6, where I went around the class helping pupils with questions or problems they don't understand.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe tutors are there just to guide students, it is the student who has the ability to achieve a higher grade, they just need to be guided and taught in a way they understand. If a child is behind it does not mean they are not able to catch up or even get the highest grade possible, they just need to unlock their potential.

About Mohammed:
I am a fully qualified Secondary Mathematics Teacher with a degree in Engineering. I have always had a passion for learning and teaching mathematics (Pure and Applied).

Teaching Experience:

As part of my PGCE training I gained the experience of teaching in three secondary schools (Elton High, Bury- Sharples High, Bolton and Falinge Park High School, Rochdale), Post-16 (Canon Slade, Bolton) and Primary (Elmswood Primary, Middleton)
I am aware of expectations, typical curricula and teaching arrangements in the Key Stages or phases before and after the ones I am trained to teach (Primary and Post-16)
Presentation skills, Classroom and Behaviour Management, Effective Teaching/Learning, and precise subject knowledge were all core elements of my teacher training. The basic principle behind this intensive training was to be reflective and analytical in approach to self development.

Tutoring Approach:

I have high expectations of my tutees and aim to build a successful relationship centred on teaching and learning. I aim to differentiate my teaching methods to meet the needs of my pupils.
I systematically monitor and assess the tutees that I teach, regularly giving them immediate and constructive feedback to support their learning. I involve tutees in reflecting on, evaluating and improving their own performance.

About Rebecca:
I have just qualified as a teacher from Canterbury Christ Church University and I am now excited and very enthusiastic about teaching.
I live in Huddersfield in Yorkshire now but I am willing to travel long distances to tutor.
I am currently looking for a part-time teaching job so I can carry on private tutoring, as I have always wanted to help people who are struggling at school.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience of teaching from the age of 15, where I volunteered to work in my local primary school, I then continued to return to the school until I was 17 years old, whenever I had free periods from college.
Whilst at University I worked with deprived children over a long weekend, to give them drama skills.
After obtaining my degree I got an acting job travelling around Barnsley, Birmingham and Stoke-on-Trent, promoting safe sex by doing a theatre in education play. This was done with 13 to 15 year olds and after every performance we would do workshops with the children.
On my P.G.C.E course I did two long placements, my first was in an affluent area of Ramsgate in a reception class and the second was in a deprived area of Canterbury in a year two class. I passed both placements with both good and excellent marks.

Tutoring Approach:

Even though I am offering reading and writing tuition for primary school children I have experienced older children and adults who also struggle with these essential skills. I would therefore love to help whoever I could, as not everyone finds reading and writing easy.
I use the sounds write approach, which is a mixture of jolly phonics and the blending of letters together to make words. This, in my experience, has created very positive results in learning to read and write.

About Gemma:
I work and relate well to children and adults with a wide range of abilities and needs. I am an enthusiastic person who believes that every student has a voice that should be listened to. I also work as a writer and encourage creativity in my students. I am outgoing, confident and professional. I returned to education later on in life and believe that it is never too late to learn new things or discover new talents within oneself.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a tutor in the subjects of English Literature, English Studies, Creative Writing and Drama for 2 years. I have a proven track record of improving students grades and I have experience of working with students up to degree level.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to make my classes as fun as possible. I encourage learning using tools such as simple mind maps and different revision techniques. I have found that not only do my students grades improve but so does their essay writing and analytical skills. I always arrive at a tutoring class on time and I come prepared with work. I follow set texts that a student is working on at school/college/university to ensure that the knowledge and skills they gain from my teaching methods can be used to improve grades at their institution.

About Eleanor:
I am a bubbly, friendly, outgoing 23 year old female who loves working with people, particularly young people. I recently graduated from Edinburgh University with a First Class Honours in English Literature, and during my four years there I also studied Philosophy and German. At the moment I tutor several secondary school students around Edinburgh in Higher and Standard Grade and am keen to take on more.

Teaching Experience:

I have three years experience teaching the Higher and Standard Grade Syllabus to secondary school pupils in Edinburgh; I did this part-time while I was at university, and had on average three pupils a week, but now that I have graduated I am keen to take on more. I travel to their homes and generally find that an hour and a half is the best timespan for both myself and the student. In 2003 I taught in a primary school in Africa for eight months, for which I underwent a teacher training program, and in 2005 I lived in an orphanage in Cambodia for three months, where I taught English to the children on a full-time basis. I also lived in Singapore for one year, where I tutored English to higher education students on a part-time basis. I currently tutor several Higher students and one Standard Grade student on a weekly basis, and also tutor a Polish woman, assisting her with her reading and writing skills, as well as helping her to write CVs and Application Forms, to help her find a full time job in the UK.

Tutoring Approach:

I am bubbly, friendly and enthusiastic, and teaching English is my passion. I enjoy working with young people, and like to connect with them on a personal level, as well as assisting them on an academic level. I feel that since I went through it all not so long ago, I can understand their fears and anxieties about essays and exams. I always come fully prepared, with worksheets and tutorial plans prepared in advance; usually I ask the student the week before what s/he would like to concentrate on, so generally it is the student that sets the schedule, and I work around that. I feel that being a tutor is as much about giving the student a confidence boost as about preparing them thoroughly for the exams, and giving them the belief in themselves they need to do as well as they can.

About Katherine:
I have been described as friendly and kind, which I believe are important qualities for a tutor to have. I enjoy chatting to people about their experiences in life and seeing what we can learn from each other - I am good at listening as well as at relating what I have to say in an interesting and clear manner. I am adaptable and sensitively aware to other people worries and lack of confidence.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored a Key Stage 2 student in Maths, taught two young teenagers the flute and mentored and tutored a Classics and English Student at university. I have worked in a bilingual school in Romania and have done work experience at a number of Junior schools in England.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in listening to one's student, finding out what they know and discovering the most effective way for the individual concerned to learn. I do not believe in "dumbing down" for "less able" students as I think this complicates matters. I find the best approach is to encourage the pupil to find things out for themselves, giving them guidance, advice, explanations and, most importantly, encouragement, along the way.

About Musa:
I like the basic presentation approach. By this I mean making complex ideas look simple and comprehensive enough for the slowest learner to grasp the concept of a particular topic or subject. I believe in thorough dissemination of a topic so that it is understood by all. I believe teaching must be simple and fun and people learning a particular subject must have a craving for learning the subject. therefore presentation of a lecture must be simple and fun and interesting, and this is how i like to teach.

Teaching Experience:

I have had a seven month teaching experience at senior secondary school level. I help prepare students taking there A' level examinations. I have organised private tutoring sessions amongst university students.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe everyone has a capability to grasp a concept or learn an idea. I believe we all have different levels of capabilities, some grasp an idea quickly and easily, others take a bit of time, but whatever the levels of capabilities, we are all capable of learning. My approach to tutoring is based on these beliefs. Therefore I tend to take the time to know my tutees, and their different approaches to what I have to offer. The way they perceive the subject and their interestedness and willingness to learn the subject is also important. Therefore my approach is to make the subject interesting and appreciate that the tutees all have different levels of understanding.

About Yolanda:
I'm a 33 years old Spaniard living in London since 2000...time flies...

Love London and travelling..and most of all meeting new people from different parts of the world..and teaching Spanish is a great way to do that!

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified Teacher with QTS status. I have a degree in Psychology with a speciality in Communication and Education. I studied my degree in Salamanca, lots of foreign students come to the city to learn Spanish, and that's how I started teaching Spanish when I was about 19, and I meet lots of people and had lots of fun doing it!
Now in London I work as a Special Educational Needs teacher a challenging but rewarding job, and my experience with SEN has help me to understand the different needs of the students and the huge amount of possibilities in which you can teach something, and the fact that everyone is able to learn however unfeasible it might seemso have faith and come learn with me!

In my spare time I teach Spanish in 1:1 lessons and I have experience with GCSE and A level exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach all levels, beginners, intermediate and advanced. Whether you want to expand your vocabulary, deepen your knowledge of the language or revise for your GCSE or A levels,or just go on holiday.

First of all, I try to identify the student needs, so as to design the course according to your language needs and specific purposes for learning. Nevertheless, I always emphasize communication, since that's the purpose of language. My teaching approach varies according to your profile:enquiry-based learning, integrative learning, Direct Method (teaching through the foreign language). I always choose a method with which you feel comfortable. Among my teaching techniques I use debates about interesting topics, games, free conversation and writing exercises, etc

Grammar is explained clearly and related to the English language so that there is no confusion, particularly regarding tenses. Pronunciation and vocabulary are covered with the objective of being able to converse effectively and confidently.

Check the level of knowledge of the person and accordingly start to improve the person's knowledge from that level and above. Also, depending on the individual's personal abilities, we move faster or slower accordingly. Its also good to try not to leave any gaps at all in the process, because after a while those gaps can become worse by time.

I have just completed the PGCE course at Cambridge University, spending 20 weeks on placement in Primary and Secondary schools teaching Maths, English, Science and foundation subjects up to Key Stage 3 level. I have worked abroad teaching English as a secondary language, in Brazil and Ecuador.

Tutoring Approach:

Lesson are based on an informal but respectful atmosphere, constructed upon positive relationships. I aim to give pupils confidence in their learning, while allowing space and comfort in making mistakes while learning. I am very flexible as to where to begin work in order that learning is relevant and helpful. I always aim to address concepts from a number of approaches, using physical, kinaesthetic methods of teaching, along with written methods. I use past papers and some book work for students to practice concepts learnt.

About Pilar:
Hello.

I am a student at Cambridge University. I was previously at a successful, all-girls, private school.

I have top grades in a wide range of GSCEs. I took Spanish, Latin, Ancient Greek and General Studies at A Level and passed with high A grades. I have a 2:1 in Classics Part I for Cambridge and am now taking Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies.

I am 20 years old. People describe me as friendly and sociable as well as organised and efficient. In my Cambridge college I hold various positions of responsibility.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience as a private tutor.

During July '08 I taught English as a foreign language at a school in Dubai, UAE. I had my own form class but during the school day I saw 60 children between the ages of 11 and 15.

I have also taught workshops to English Primary School children and Japanese High School and University Students.

Tutoring Approach:

I am friendly and supportive as a tutor; encouraging my pupils to stretch themselves and achieve their best.

Although I am only 20, I feel that I have the right amount of maturity to be guide my pupils, but I am also young enough to seem approachable. Tutoring is not the same as teaching in a classroom, so I do not believe that a Tutor should be the same as a teacher.

As I am still at university I will only be available between terms. My university holidays coincide with school holidays.

About Isabel:
I am a friendly and enthusiastic teacher and my main aim is to help children move forward in their learning. I can explain things carefully and in many different ways in order to help a child/children get to grips with their new learning. I always ensure that I have a clear understanding of the work to be covered before taking on a new learner. I am calm and patient so that the learner feels confident in their learning and does not feel pressurised to work faster or further than their ability.

Teaching Experience:

I have completed a four year degree course that consisted of various placements, exams and time in university. This has given me a Bachelor of Education Degree (Honours). I have also completed one year of full time teaching and am now a fully registered teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring is time where a child can take their time with their work and go at a pace which suits them. They can explain their difficulties and be given the opportunity to work slowly and carefully through their tasks. Tutoring allows me to spend one-to-one time with the pupil, which is what many children need, and allows me to see where difficulties lie and work through them until understanding is reached. Most of all, tutoring is time where the child has ownership - they express difficulties, questions or areas of excellence, which can all be worked on and explained in a relaxed atmosphere where they are allowed to go at their own pace.

I am young, fun and very energetic with a very calm manner. I am always on the go, whether working or enjoying life's vices. I have a great commitment to giving children the best possible start with regards to their education, hence the reason why i decided to study primary level. I believe that parents/ carers are the main teachers of their children and us, the teachers, are mentors for that learning and offer the guidance to move on the learning to a higher level. I have a collection of excellent resources to offer the children and I like to follow the child's curriculum map from their school so as not to disrupt their learning. Every hour i have with your child will be fun, exciting and very well organised. After every session i like to give feedback to the parent and share the child's targets for the next session.
