I teach singing, particularly musical theatre and pop. I am also available to teach music theory up to grade 5.

Teaching Experience:

I have a BSc Hons Speech and Language Sciences, which included study of the healthy voice and voice disorders caused by vocal abuse and misuse. Now that I have graduated I want to establish myself as a full-time vocal coach. I have experience teaching both one to one and group lessons and I teach regularly for stage schools and a professional theatre company. I also have experience working with choirs.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach using mainly the Estill method, which is essential for musical theatre as it coveres a wide range of techniques and styles, including healthy belting. Lessons are 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the pupil's preference. I work on what you want to sing, but I will advise on suitable repetoire and technical aspects that need to be worked on. I am flexible and willing to teach small groups (e.g. for duets or group songs). Theory tuition can either be one-to-one or in groups.

About Dulmini:
I am a 2:1 graduate with a good grounding in both the arts and sciences, as I studied English, German, Maths and Physics at A-level, before going to the Kent Institute of Art & Design (now known as the University College for the Creative Arts) to study Architecture. I also work as a Sinhalese interpreter, video camerawoman, photographer, and meditation group leader. I'm also an amateur singer-songwriter and play guitar.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored children preparing for their 11+ exam, and currently teach adults the basics of Buddhism and how to meditate.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm friendly and encouraging in my approach, and am good at helping students understand concepts by using examples, illustrations and provoking discussion. Several adults who I teach Buddhism and meditation to are foreign nationals with poor english; so I communicate clearly, using stories and anecdotes, with lots of eye contact, facial expressions and hand gestures to get my message across.

About Neil:
I am a second year language student at the University of Bristol, looking to tutor in French and Russian. I can provide a wide range of different services, from intensive grammar revision to simple conversation. I am also able to provide tuition in the study of English (and foreign) Literature and History up to A-Level, and having recently sat these exams I am aware of what exam boards expect.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience offering Russian taster workshops in primary schools, and teach French at afterschool clubs in the Bristol area.

Tutoring Approach:

I am happy to adapt my tutoring style depending on age and need. With languages especially it is important to ascertain why you want to learn; are you studying for a particular exam or is fluency your goal? Do you find it easier to focus on grammar, letting the rest fall into place around it, or would you prefer practical tuition based on real life situations and media? All this can be discussed and set out at the beginning of our arrangement.

About Kit:
Hi! My name is Kit. I'm a philosopher now moving into teaching. I'm profoundly enthusiastic about my subjects and passionate about teaching. Forced to pick out three of my qualities, they might be: the ability to listen and thoughtfully respond, diligence and dedication.

I've been fortunate enough to have a great education at Cambridge University, where I achieved the highest marks in my year (a 1st). Although my background is primarily Philosophy, I've also studied History at postgraduate and undergraduate level, and Experimental Psychology at undergraduate level. In addition, I can in tutor primary school students in English & Mathematics etc, and also help prepare for examinations including the 11+. I also speak passable Hindi. I'm now preparing for further study and hope to spend my life teaching.

I have recently been accepted by a reputed tuition company which interviews and vets their tutors, please contact for details. (They currently have insufficient work)

I have recently married a lovely lady and we live together in Cambridge.

Teaching Experience:

I have provided informal tuition of several undergraduate students at Cambridge University. This raised their marks: in one case from a predicted 3rd to a high 2:1.

As yet I have little experience of more formal tuition. This is the reason for my low prices.

Tutoring Approach:

Enthusiasm is vital to the success of any tuition. But you will also want a tutor who knows the topic inside out. This is necessary not to answer any difficult questions with accuracy and lucidity. Not only that, only someone with a firm grasp of a subject will be able to freely adapt the approach, the concepts and presentation of facts, to best suit the student. I believe that I have both qualities.
Below, I very briefly outline my general approach to providing tuition and some of the more practical 'nut & bolts' issues below. Please feel free to contact me for more details.

General Approach:
Throughout, three truths will be constantly kept in mind:
First, an interested student is a successful student. Learning can and should be a great pleasure at any age, although bad experiences or lack of confidence in the classroom can take away the joy. I will generate a supportive environment where the tutee feels comfortable to ask questions (even so-called silly ones). Difficult and abstract concepts will be translated into concrete examples relevant to the student and perhaps current affairs. My enthusiasm for these subjects will, I hope, be contagious.
Second, that students of all levels should be learning how to think (analyse, asses etc..) for themselves whilst learning or revising the subject itself . This, especially for GCSE and above, inevitably translates into good exam results. Whenever possible and appropriate tuition sessions will be focused on developing and clarifying the student's own ideas, providing them with the knowledge and ability to do so.
Finally, many students have insufficient confidence in their abilities. I want my students to feel confident that they are in control of their learning. Encouragement will be provided wherever appropriate, picking out the good in all the tutee's ideas. They will work hard, but at the end will have earned the right to feel extremely confident in their subject and in their academic work in general.

Nuts & Bolts:
Although I will be thoroughly acquainted and competent on the course curriculum and syllabus, tutoring will be tailored to the individual and flexible. A detailed programme will be worked out with the student, with input from parents as required.
Before agreeing to undertake any tuition, I would be much obliged if whoever is paying for the tuition, and/or a guardian if the tutee is under 18, would contact me. I am happy to do this by phone, or may be able to drop by for a meet & greet in person .
A course of tuition will start with a short chat to establish: what level the student is currently at; where they feel most confident and where the greatest challenges lie; which approaches are likely to fit their personality and desired learning style; what specific goals there are (if any); and what the would like to achieve through the tuition sessions.

About Daniel:
i moved to spain ten years ago, i started school in east spain (alicante) at the age of 11 , not knowing one word of spanish , but now i speak better than a lot of spaniards , i have now moved to belfast for a change of scenery and to study and while i am here i offer my help and knowledge to anyone who needs it .

Teaching Experience:

i have given intensive spanish lessons for british chilrden who moved to spain and were starting school and needed to learn the basics fast.

Tutoring Approach:

my approach to tutoring is very easy , it is the same way i was taught and it works very well . also i have noticed in many students i have come across is that they can conjugate verbs forever and analyse sentances but when it comes to speaking to a spaniard they dont understand, and this is where i can help especially, talking spanish constantly is one of the main ways you are going to learn spanish , and if it is not possible to be in spain to learn , then i am the next best thing.

About Doyinsola:
My name is Doyin Alli and I am a second year student on the BSc Accounting and Finance programme at the London School of Economics and Political Science. I am interested in pursuing a career in the financial service industry and I hope to be an investment banker by 2010.*

Tutoring is a hobby because I feel fulfilled when I can assist students reach their full potential or at least help them in developing an interest in subjects they dislike. I am a patient tutor and I have an excellent communication skill which I believe aids a student's understanding. I am fun to be with and I believe that hard work and determination from students combined with my assistance would help students reach their full potential

Teaching Experience:

In June 2008, I was fortunate to be offered a placement at Forest Gate Community School on the Student Associates Scheme developed by the government to raise the aspirations of young people at secondary schools in London. I was a mathematics tutor at Forest Gate Community School for 3 weeks and my responsibility was to assist teachers during maths lessons by giving individual students and groups of student's one to one tutoring. I was usually assigned to help students who were weak at mathematics and who needed assistance. I was exposed to teaching maths across all year groups from year 7 to year 11 and also helping teachers plan and execute some of their lessons.

I believe the experience made me a better teacher because I have developed the ability to better understand the needs of students with different abilities. During the placement I taught students who initially disliked maths and after I devised more interesting and more interacting ways of understanding certain topics, the students began to enjoy the subject and some students even begged me to be their maths teacher

Tutoring Approach:

I understand that students have different approaches to learning and thus, my approach to tutoring is structured to each group of students with similar learning types. Some students learn my repetition and my writing their work over and over again whilst some learn by hearing (auditory learning). My tutoring approach accommodates this different learning types. I encourage students who learn by repetition to do a lot of home work while I encourage those who prefer auditory learning to play maths games and I create more interactive exercises for this group.

Overall, I try to give a reasonable amount of home work as I teach various topics and I also try to link topics so that students can appreciate the use of knowledge from one to topic to another. I am patient with students and I can understand each student's need.

About NA:
Hi, I am Liu Na. I come from China. I have been in the UK for 2 years and I am currently living in Bristol. I am an experienced teacher. I am highly motivated, responsible and patient. I have outstanding interpersonal skills.

Teaching Experience:

I had been teaching in a private language school as an English teacher and a Chinese teacher for 3 years in China. I used to work with teenagers and adult students and teach English and Chinese of different levels. Not only am I good at doing the teaching for a class but good at one-to-one teaching. I also have had an experience of providing specific language training for the staff of Lenovo computer company in China.

Tutoring Approach:

Listening comes first. Learning a new language gives human beings another chance to be a child who learns to speak by listening. My approach of teaching begins with Listening. I will give you the sound of a new word first instead of the meaning of the word. By imitating the learning process of the mother tongue, I will make it easier to learn a second language.

About Gemma:
I have been teaching in Southampton for 7 years and I thoroughly enjoy my job and am always looking for ways to develop my skills further. I am leader of Literacy and upper school and a large part of my role involves coaching teachers in developing their practice and ensuring we are giving the children in our school the best possible opportunities to learn to their full potential.

I feel that I strive to cater for each individual and do this by establishing how a child learns, what they already know and by carefully planning the next steps needed to take them further. I have a calm, approachable manner but set clear expectations for children and encourage all to do their best. A combination of praise and achieving success through supportive teaching means children can feel positive about their learning.

Teaching Experience:

I have particular expertise in teaching Year 6 children and therefore would be able to successfully tutor children approaching SATs tests or those getting ready for entrance exams. However, I am experienced in teaching years 3 to 5 and when I have been a supply teacher have taught all primary aged children. I have also enjoyed tutoring children of various ages.

Tutoring Approach:

I use my expereince and knowledge of all curriculum subjects to deliver high quality, personalised sessions catering for children's individual needs. I feel it is important to use a range of activities to ensure sessions are engaging and motivating. Time is also used carefully and planned, where possible, in collaberation with class teachers and parents.

Teaching Experience:

I've been working as a French assistant in two high schools of Glasgow for 18 months. Next year I'm going to do the teacher training course to be a French teacher in Scotland. When I was in France, I've done quite a lot of tutoring in maths and French for both primary and secondary school pupils.

Tutoring is different with every tutee. It can go from a simple help following the school syllabus for pupils with difficulties who want ot catch up, to lessons based on communication (in a restaurant, in a hotel...) for people who would like to travel to France. One of the major element is to introduce a bit of French culture because learning a language is all about discovering another culture...

About Furqan:
I am currently studying for a MBBS & BSc at Imperial College London and at present am in my final year of a study. Medicine is a dynamic, creative, challenging and competitive field. It is a very demanding course and warrants a lot of hard work, commitment, responsibility and team work. I have undertaken numerous communication skills programmes and team work classes whilst at Imperial College which have helped me to further develop my people skills, this is particularly important as I deal with patients on a day to day basis, which I enjoy very much. Communicating efficiently with patients involves great skill and the ability to gain ones trust. I believe I exhibit all of these qualities in my academic, professional and personal life. About Alan:
I recently graduated from Heriot Watt with a Masters degree in Physics. I studied both Chemistry and Biology during my time at university, alongside my main subjects of Physics and Maths. I am planning on returning to university next year to get my PGDE (teaching qualification).

Teaching Experience:

I have no formal teaching/tutoring experience, but over the last few years I have spent a lot of time assisting many of my classmates with their studies. I have a very good understanding of my subject and have had plenty of practice explaining complicated ideas in an easily digestible manner.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that a deep understanding of a subject is incredibly beneficial to students, and is ultimately the best way to get a better grade, however I also acknowledge that practicing likely exam questions can be a very effective way of improving marks.
