| About Assal: I have been teaching law for over one year. I enjoy teaching as a hobby, as I have spent most of my adult life in education at university studying law. During my A levels, I developed a keen interest in English Literature & Mathematics but ultimately I decided to study Law at university. I hope that through teaching, I can encourage my tutees to take the same interest in education that my teachers taught me to take at school. When I am not teaching, I write articles for various university journals. I have over two years employment experience in the legal sector & I work as a Court Clerk for various law firms in London. |
Teaching Experience: Over one years experience in teaching Law & LPC. |
Tutoring Approach: I like to keep things simple and easy to understand. I am a patient person & I like to bring out the best in my tutees. I understand that learning takes time & I think it's important to allow tutees to take their time and to learn through asking questions. Everyone is different; some tutees prefer to learn through reading whilst others like to practice answering exam questions, some of my tutees prefer to draw mind maps to aid their memory. In any case, I am able to adapt confidently to any approach that my tutee(s) prefer(s). |

| About Megan: I am an English Teacher in an inner London school, with over 5 years experience working with children. I enjoy working with students and love being able to help children reach their potential - anyone can get there with a bit of hard work and the right help and encouragement! Being a working English teacher I am know exactly how to get students to reach their potential and achieve top grades in exams and I obviously know the syllabus and criteria inside out. I am a friendly and approachable teacher who looks forward to getting to know some interesting students. |
Teaching Experience: Special needs teaching assistant West Hampstead School School (4 months 2003) Special needs teaching assistant Welbourne Primary School (7 months 2003) Post Graduate Teaching Certificate in English Institute of Education - London (2004) English teacher: KS3, KS4 and A-Level Queens Park community School (2004 to present) |
Tutoring Approach: My appraoch to tutoring is about getting to know the student. I think that it tutoring is about me spending time getting to know a pupil and deciding what their particular strenght and weaknesses are to work on those. I think personal tutition is about building the skills and confidence of a child, in a personalised way. There is a two pronged approach to English tuition. Firstly, working on students particular skills and literacy needs and secondly, supporting and helping them understand areas of the curriculum they are struggling with. For example, this maybe coursework or an aspect of the SATs exams, such as the Shakespeare paper. My approach is to ultimately to provide individuals with the extra support and encouragement they need to progress. |

| About Lola: I am a third year Bioengineering student at Imperial College London. I previously attended Roedean School for Girls in Brighton where I completed my A-levels. For my A-levels, I took Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and A's in all my subjects for both my AS and A-levels. My engineering course is very diverse, and so I am still doing these subjects though on a higher level. |
Teaching Experience: I worked as a teaching assistant at Gunnersbury School London in 2007. Where I assisted students from year 7 all the way up to year 11 with Mathematics. I tutor Bioengineering students (in the younger years) ad libitum at Imperial College London. |
Tutoring Approach: I try to modify my teaching technique to suit the student that I am working with, and depending on the subject that I am teaching. Being a current student myself, I am very aware of the problems that students face with getting their voices heard in the classroom, and centre my tutoring around the student. I encourage students to be the best that they can be because I believe that anything is possible with the right amount of help, and if you put your mind to it! |

| About Graham: I am a married father of two children and have completed a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Bradford, and a PhD in Medicine from the University of Birmingham. For the past three years I have worked as a Biomedical Scientist in Histopathology, specialising in Molecular Pathology and Genetics at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. I am extremely enthusiastic about science and medicine, and really enjoy lecturing and teaching. I aim to simplify complex concepts and enhance understanding in all pupils, regardless of their academic abilities. |
Teaching Experience: During my career I have been responsible for training junior staff, practically and academically, in small groups and on an individual basis. I have also lectured on several occasions to groups of people, including presentations at scientific conferences, explaining concepts to people with varying levels of understanding of the subject. Over the past 5 years I have tutored many GCSE, A-level & University students in Biology and Chemistry with notable success. |
Tutoring Approach: I understand that each student is different and has individual requirements. I first arrange to meet the pupil (and their family where appropriate) face-to-face and on a no-fee basis to discuss the requirements and identify the subject areas they are finding the most difficult. If we both agree to start personal tuition, we then work through the relevant syllabus and I simplify and explain the areas of difficulty using examples and visual aids. I try to build up the confidence of the pupil as much as I can, as I see this as a crucial aspect. I also set homework if this is desired by the pupil and family, including set exam questions relevant to the syllabus. |

| About Sam: I have recently completed my MA in 20th Century Literature at Goldsmiths University, and am now progressing to my PhD at Exeter. I am an experienced, fully-qualified teacher/lecturer happy to work with a wide age range from GCSE to Adults. I specialize in English (Literature and Language) at all levels from GCSE upwards, and EFL from Elementary to Advanced. I have also worked with students in preparation for IELTS. Apart from teaching, I write for a number of online publications reviewing live bands. I consider myself enthusiastic, passionate about my subject and able to form a quick rapport with nearly any student. |
Teaching Experience: Between 2004 and 2007 I was employed as a lecturer for (and then from 2005, Head of) English Language Support at Bournemouth & Poole College of F.E working with students aged 16-70 on a wide variety of courses from NVQ to Foundation Degree. Due to the variety of subjects encountered I was required to be flexible and adapt my teaching style in order to provide the highest academic quality. Alongside this I have been teaching EFL to four employees at a Software company in Dorset, designing a scheme of work and delivering evening classes. Additionally, I have worked in summer schools teaching EFL at all ages (from 8+) and during my PGCE placement worked for a year at Brockenhurst College of F.E as part of their English Dept. lecturing in GCSE, A/S and A2 English Literature and Language. |
Tutoring Approach: Due to the nature of my previous employment I am very adaptable and am able to quickly grasp what style of teaching is best suited to each individual student. I am informal and relaxed in my teaching, by which I aim to create an atmosphere where the student is comfortable and unafraid to ask questions. I am also well-read and have a strong interest in theatre, politics and social issues. |

Teaching Experience: I tutored maths at all levels whilst at university, supporting many students through various qualifications. I work in a local high school and am currently teaching three exam classes as well as tutoring pupils privately. |
Tutoring Approach: Pupils learn best when teaching is tailored to their individual learning styles. I use a variety of teaching methods to appeal to various styles of learning. I also aim to eliminate the barriers which prevent many people from achieving their full potential in the subject, such as fear of making mistakes. Tutoring is provided in a relaxed, friendly manner where students can feel at ease to ask questions and clarify any lack of understanding. |

| About Chris: I am 23 years old and have spent the summer as an exam invigilator at Queen's Park High School Chester. I am looking at going into teching next year and I feel that one-on-one tuition will give me a valuable insight and help to prepare me well for the world of teaching. |
Teaching Experience: I have three younger brothers and have helped (and still do) them to achieve their full potential in examinations. I have helped them to pass the 11-plus exam and achieve entry to Wirral Grammar School for Boys. I have also helped two of them with their G.C.S.E's and am currently helping Mark in preparing his final year dissertation. |
Tutoring Approach: I aim to create a blanace between a relaxed working environment and a studious approach. I believe that is vital to help the student understand the concepts and methods of how to prepare and sit examinations rather than simply presenting them with fact and figures. My aim is not just to provide students with the specific information needed for an exam but to provide them with the skills needed for sitting any academic exams. |

| About Max: I am 22 and have recently graduated from Durham University with First Class Honours in English Literature. I have been described as intelligent, kind and witty. On a more serious note, I think I have the enthusiasm, communication skills, commitment and patience to be a great tutor. I look forward to it. |
Teaching Experience: I have never tutored previously. However, I did voluntarily enrol on the Student Mentoring Scheme while at University. There, I mentored a 12 year old boy in foster care, over 3 years. This involved meeting up regularly and building a relationship. It required good communication skills, commitment, empathy and a lot of patience. I think this experience and my natural enthusiasm for the subjects will make me a good tutor. |
Tutoring Approach: There are 3 core values that will structure my approach: (1.) Be prepared for each session. (2.) Focus on the specific problems the student highlights. (3.) Make the student feel confident about the subject. |

| About Stephanie: I am an enthusiastic individual who puts every possible effort into everything I do. Being positive and encouraging provides the best possible outcome in almost every situation, therefore I am usually optimistic. I have several interests, including swimming, tennis, football and other sports. I like to read, watch television, socialise and work hard. I am an outgoing, helpful and positive individual. |
Teaching Experience: I am currently embarking on a Post-graduate Certificate of Education which will begin in September, where I will be focusing on becoming a science teacher in secondary schools and colleges. Previous to this I have spent 18 months in China where I taught English as a foreign language in several different settings. This taught me about management within the classroom and in planning. It also gave me the confidence to teach appropriately and it provided me with experience at teaching English to different age groups. Whilst studying for my BSc Hons Biology and University I produced an interactive CD-Rom for GCSE students and presented it to the class as a teacher. I have also spent time with children under examination conditions as an exam invigilator. I have completed my Students Associates Scheme Level 2 in a primary school too. This allowed me to observe several different situations within a school and I learnt a lot from them. |
Tutoring Approach: I have a laid back but encouraging approach to tutoring. I feel that a relaxed learning environment, where topics are made interesting and fun for the student create a better learning environment and encourage progression for the students. I create a steady work load for the students so that the progress at a steady level, to try to reduce pressure. I create extensive lesson plans so that both the student and I can gain the most from the tutoring session. I feel that providing the best tutoring is about both the teacher and the student progressing together to provide the best learning environment for the student. |

| About Emma: I am 23 years old and graduated from the University of Cambridge last year, where I studied Natural Sciences for three years and Management Studies for one year. I am a confident and enthusiastic person with a lot of energy to give. I really enjoy tutoring, and have had good results in the past. |
Teaching Experience: At University I was involved in tutoring younger students in various Biology and Mathematics courses. During Sixth Form College, I mentored 11-14 year old students to improve their reading and writing skills. At University I specialised in Cellular Biology, but due to the nature of the course I also have very good knowledge of Physiology, Behaviour, Biochemistry, Psychology, Chemistry, Statistics and Pure Mathematics. |
Tutoring Approach: I am a friendly and down to earth person with high standards! My approach depends entirely on the student. I take time to understand the students current level of knowledge and strive to find a method which works well for both of us. I explain difficult topics by breaking them down into simple portions - once these are individually understood, the overall topic becomes much easier to grasp. I can help with homework and other assignments by logically guiding the student through what needs to be covered. I can help with mid-year and end of year exam preparation, where an extra bit of tuition can make all the difference. |
