About Marc:
I am a fully qualified Modern Languages teacher with 25 years experience of teaching
FRENCH / GERMAN / SPANISH
to GCSE, AS Level and A Level in schools and Sixth Form Colleges.

Language for Business is also offered

I have an interest in how the use of languages enhances business opportunities for the UK and have been involved in an export business for a few years.

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach in a Sixth Form College. I have taught students of all ages from 11 to adult in schools and Colleges. I also teach Religious Studies to A Level. My experience also includes delivering courses for companies (Business Language).

My teaching experience has been mainly in the UK school system (schools and colleges) but has also included work in France (1 year) and Spain (3 years).

Tutoring Approach:

Learning languages is all about communication and motivation: students need to understand that there is a point to learning a new language - whether for holiday or for business.
Of vital importance for most tutees is that the tutor understands the requirements of the exams and can train students in tasks that will get them through these exams

About África:
I am a Spaniard living in Birmingham. I have got a Certificate of Educational Competence and a degree in History of Art from Universidad Complutense, Madrid, Spain.

Teaching Experience:

I have six years of experience in private tutoring, teaching English in Spain to tutees of different levels, as well as three years of experience teaching English in a school at Primary and Secondary grades.
Although I have never taught Spanish as a foreign language, this is my mother tongue language and I have taught it to Spanish tutees with learning difficulties. I love languages and I am studying German at the moment, so I know how difficult it is to learn a foreign language, I know how to do it and I can help you.

Tutoring Approach:

I use previous experience to adapt my teaching style for each student, taking into account their weaknesses, interests and aspirations.
I try to make learning a language an enjoyable experience, teaching not only grammar and vocabulary, but also Spanish culture and a real up-to-date use of Spanish.

About Remus:
I'm a professional tutor and philologist with a history of getting results fast through a self-designed language teaching programme that throws away such antiquated ideas as learning by rote and emphasises learning through interaction and activities.

Teaching Experience:

In my four years of teaching at all levels, I've had a 100% rate of success, with beginners getting to an advanced level in a matter of a few months. Previous tutees have gone on to pass exams, home and foreign universities, and to work abroad in a country of their chosen language.

Tutoring Approach:

An individual approach is the cornerstone of my approach to tutoring. I personally tailor my tutelage for each student, taking into account their strengths, weaknesses, interests and aspirations. I dislike the approach of teaching a few phrases by rote - my central aim as a tutor is to teach each tutee how to express themselves.

About Lorna:
I am an enthusiastic and confident teacher. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and skills with others, and inspiring them to want to learn. I am able to support students to identify their strengths and weaknesses and to work on these in order to reach their full potential.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked for four years as a class teacher (including one year training through the Graduate Teacher Programme), with most of my experience being in Key Stage 2. I have taught all subjects at primary level, although my subject specialisms are Music and Modern Foreign Languages.

The first meeting also allows you to view how I want to work.
If you want to practise and improve your grammar, we have to work, to do exercises and also to read documents, book's extracts... The grammar is quiet important. You have to know grammar rules ti improve.
If you want to practise your spoken French or Spanish, we won't speak in English at all during the lesson. I will make you discover advertisements, songs... to know how this language works.

About damaris:
I am a Social Science graduate who's passionate about languages, psychology and the social sciences. I enjoy keeping up to date with research in the fields I'm interested in and one of my medium term goals is to undertake research (PhD) in Sociology. I'm genuinely interested in people and I like helping others to develop their full potential, which is the main reason why I chose to go into academic tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

I have 4 years of teaching experience, both privately and as part of voluntary work I undertook. i taught Spanish and Catalan to immigrants in Barcelona, helping them pass language school exams and prepare them for job interviews. During my last year at university and first year of postgraduate study, I tutored first year undergraduate students in Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology and Spanish. My tutoring work included preparation for exams and help with essay writing. I particularly enjoy this last aspect, and all my tutees improved their grades by at least 1 point! I have also successfully helped students with two dissertations in Business and Management.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe learning can be an enjoyable experience that can boost your self-confidence and belief in yourself. I very much prefer to talk about 'learning' than about 'studying', since I put more weight on the experience of learning by itself as natural part of your daily life. I'm confident I can make you enjoy learning and discovering interesting things about your subject. Try it, you have lots to gain!

About Raul:
I have been teaching private classes for more than five years. Since my career is electronic and electrical engineering I have mainly focused my classes on science topics. However I have taught language classes as well, for example English as a foreign language. I really enjoy teaching and I think that this fact is reflected in my students satisfaction. I consider that I have good communications skills and an outgoing personality.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught private classes since I was eighteen years old. Maths, phisycs chemistry are the main courses that I have taught. However, other subjects such as English, Social Science, History have come across during my experience as a tutor. Satisfaction among my former students is total.

Tutoring Approach:

I ike to know everything about my student in my first meeting and afterwards design a working plan in order to reinforce the weakest points of my tutee. This plan usually includes student homework, further study in the darkest points covered in his/her daily classes and further materials exercises. A relaxed environment combined with an efficient use of the time are my basic principles while teaching.

About Safaa:
Hello,
My name is Safaa. I am French and have been living in the UK for 11 years.

Teaching Experience:

I worked as a Learning Mentor for 4 years, supporting Year 8 & 9 students with their revision and study skills and helping them prepare for their SAT examinations.
I have taught French and Spanish at Newcastle College.
I currently work part-time as a supply teacher, teaching RE and Citizenship at KS3.

Tutoring Approach:

When tutoring I focus on study skills as much as the subject itself, as I have often found that pupils find it hard to revise, simply because they haven't been taught how to.
I will always spend 5-10 minutes at the end of a language lesson showing my tutees strategies to help them revise and remember what they have just learned.
I adapt my lessons to each individual pupil, based on their specific needs.

As a newly qualified teacher, I am fully up-to-date with all new curriculum initiatives and methods/levels of assessment in schools.

About Sofia:
I really enjoy teaching Spanish and transmit my culture. I am competent and fluent in English, which is a real asset when teaching a foreign language.

Teaching Experience:

I have one year of teaching experience a Mark Twain School, which is a bilingual primary school.
Besides, I have given private lessons of English to teenagers.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to consider the student needs and I base my lessons on that. I would use a more communicative approach if the student was to travel to a Spanish-speaking country really soon, and I would focus also on grammar rules and on writing if the student was to sit an international exam.

About Jessica:
I am a recent graduate form Newcastle University, with a first class BA in Linguistics with Spanish. I am passionate about languages, both foreign languages and English, and throughout university I have enjoyed the opportunity to gain experience in teaching and tutoring, both on a one-to-one basis and in groups. Therefore I believe it is important to get to know the tutee, and for the tutee to get to know me, and to create an unthreatening, friendly environment where we can work together to achieve the goals stated at the beginning of the sessions.
