| About Peter: I am a 24 old German, living in Birmingham for since October 2008. In 2004 I graduated from "Grosse Stadtschule Rostock", Germany achieving an average grade of 2,1 in my Abitur (A-Level equivalent). My majors were English and German. After my civilian service I studied "Popular Music and Media Management" at the University of Paderborn, Germany, which I will complete this term with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Furthermore I had piano lessons for 10 years and am playing the bass guitar for 6 years. I am also a autodidact in rhythm guitar and able to teach the basic concepts. |
Teaching Experience: Since studying at an internationally accredited university enables you to get to know people from around the world, I came in contact with a lot of students whose mother tongue was not German. |
Tutoring Approach: Learning a foreign language and about a different culture can be a lot of fun. Although some rules, especially grammar, have to be learned by heart. I can offer you German classes with a lot of real life examples, such as music, films, literature, TV shows and magazines. It is possible to learn about German politics and the German party systems through a vivid conversation which does not only enables you to understand German politics and history, but also upgrades your conversational skills. Having played in several bands enables me to teach a real-live approach to music and the instrument. |

| About adam: I am a 26 year old male heavily involved with the current uk music scene, l love all aspects of popular culture especially writing.films and music. l am passionate about these subjects and love the chance to talk to other people about them and gain further knowledge and pass my knowledge,l find nothing more rewarding than passing some knowledge onto another person and them appreciating and cultivating that knowledge into there own mind and way of thinking, l feel that todays generation of yonger children have the best oppertunitys available to them more so than any other genertaion and without the right guidance then so much talent and knowledge will be wasted and underappreciated so l feel that teaching is the only way to help our future by giving todays generation the help the encouragement they deserve. |
Teaching Experience: Not proffesionaly to speak of,l have expericnce with working with children and hope to complete a PGCE in the near future to further my involvement with teaching. |
Tutoring Approach: l feel by tutoring l can give my experience and knowledge to another person and watch them cultivate that knowledge into there own thought patterns and learn about new things they may never have thought they had been interested in, l van think of nothing kore rewarding then setting someone onto a certian subject they have never been interested in and watching they gain a passion for it and hopefully lead a career into that, l never had the guidance l needed whan l was younger and had so many questions about my future which l had to find out myself, l would like the chance to answer these questions myself to younger children and help them find the right path in life.nothing seems more rewarding than that to me. |

| About Francesca: I have graduated from univeristy but am returning for the 2009/2010 academic year to do a PGCE is secondary education, I will be teaching GCSE English and A Level Psychology and Sociology. I am very familiar with the new policies schools have brought in, and have a fresh approach to dealing with exam stress and coping with workloads as having only recently completed my own studies. I am a very friendly, confident and conscientious person and am a firm believer in individuals doing their best and not feel pressured by too many expectations. I think it is very important to enjoy what you are learning otherwise it is very easy to get bored. I therefore endeavor to help those from a young age up to degree level to achieve what they can to the best of their ability. |
Teaching Experience: My teaching experience ranges from listening to reception aged children read to helping peers with research. I have a great deal of classroom experience as a student and now want to help others and gain the experience I need for my PGCE. |
Tutoring Approach: I feel it is very important not to try and do too much at once, I encourage regular breaks and distractions to help refocus the mind. I have a lot of knowledge about the psychology of learning and different learning methods. I like to see what type of learner the student is, for example using a dictaphone to record important information, and mind maps to make connections between different subjects. As a former student I understand that some areas of learning can be very dull, by talking through the subject and encouraging a subjective interpretation guides the student to focus on their own ideas, and this I feel encourages a sense of achievement. |

| About Laura: I am a friendly and dedicated tutor; who works in television, film and theatre (as an actress, script editor, assistant director and production coordinator). I have a BA Honours degree in English (Literature & Language), and also in Film/TV/Theatre/Performance. I have a passion for English as a subject, and would like to help pupils who may be struggling (or who just want some additional help) to really enjoy the subject, and to develop in leaps and bounds. I can also tutor Media & Drama & Film Studies; from my own university educated qualified level in these subjects, and also from my professional experience in television, film and theatre. |
Teaching Experience: I have led drama classes for school aged pupils. I have also assisted a special needs school aged pupil with reading and homework. |
Tutoring Approach: I take a friendly and relaxed approach to tutoring. Questions from my students are always welcolmed and encouraged at all times. Learning, and the subjects being studied, should be fun and interesting- that helps with learning and improving. I am dedicated to improving my student's skills in that subject, in order for them to achieve the best grade they possibly can. |

| About Glyn: I am a fully qualified English and Media teacher who graduated from The University of Reading with a degree in English Language and Literature in 2002. I have since gone on to complete my teacher training qualification (PGCE Secondary in English & Media) through Canterbury Christ Church University, Kent and have undertaken teaching posts in a number of secondary schools and colleges throughout the local area. I have also undertaken work and study placements at a number of different places, including The University of Las Vegas Nevada and London's British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). I am presently teaching English and Media to a combination of teenagers and adult learners at a local FE College whilst running a private tuition service, when possible, in my specialist subject areas. |
Teaching Experience: I am highly experienced in teaching learners aged 11 upwards, including adults. I have taught English at Key stages 3 (11-14) and 4 (14+) and am very experienced in preparing students for the SAT examinations in English (Reading & Writing). I specialise in making Shakespeare and poetry easy! For those learners looking to improve their writing skills as they bridge the gap between primary and secondary, I can also be of much help and support. |
Tutoring Approach: I offer a friendly and informal service. For younger learners who, are, for instance, preparing for their SAT examinations, I can offer an excellent service that can greatly enhance a student's confidence. I have a whole range of resources to support my private tutoring sessions, a number of which I developed and created myself! Many absolutely capable students often underachieve in examinations, simply because of insubstantial 'exam technique' training; I specialise in helping with this. I also like to offer regular feedback to parents on my individual student's progress and where particular areas of progress remain. I do this either by writing regular written 'reports' or through informal conversations, as and when is deemed necessary. I can travel to students who live within the Bracknell/Ascot/Wokingham/Reading area (25), or, for those who are able to 'come to me,' I charge 23. Most slots run for at least 70 minutes, so I can give my students time to settle in and recap on the previous week's work. In some cases, it can be advisable to have two students working together in one slot, as those young people with less confidence can sometimes benefit from working in a small team and being less 'on the spot.' It's also an excellent way to split costs (15 per student) - If interested, please call for more details. More than two or three students is usually not usually advisable. |

| About Nat: I am not only a successful person, but I have many skills and interests. I hold a BA (Hons), HND, A Levels (A- D grades), GCSE's (B- D Grades) and various other qualifications. I am a self taught photographer and swimmer. I love music and can play various instruments at different levels. I am an artist as well as a photographer, I include painting, model making, candle making, picture framing, scrapbooking, beadwork and silversmith crafts as part of my craft enjoyment. I also sell some of my various photography work. I am a motorsports and car fan. I have been a Scuderia Ferrari F1 team fan for almost 15 years. I have tattoos, pircings and crazy hair, I know when to look smart and presentable for my job, but I also enjoy showing people you can have a brain, be responcible but also enjoy your life. I enjoy spending time with my family and pets. I keep furry and tropical pets. |
Teaching Experience: Being a self taught swimmer, my first teaching experiences came at 16 as a swimming coach in the local school I was a sixth form student at. I have also been a private swimming coach and tutor. My first lifeguard rescue was at the age of 11 years old, coming to the aid of a fellow class mate who couldn't swim. I have also been a PE coach at my prevoous school (pupils 11- 18 years of age), duties included coaching of basic/ aqua/ step areobics, football, basketball, netball, rugby, javelin throwing, running, first aid, cross country, badminton and gymnastics. I was also a regular demonstrator and supervisor in the weights gym. I am also a previously qualified lifeguard. I have also worked inschools as a volunteer reader and a teaching assistant teaching Literacy/ English, Maths, RE, PE, Gross Motor Skills, Music, Art, Guided Readin, ICT, Fine Motor Skills, Geography, History, Science, Creativity and various other subjects at primary school level. |
Tutoring Approach: I am not only a successful person, but I have many skills and interests. I'm certainly not a swot, I teach people how to enjoy their life as well as have plenty of study/ learning time. I worked very hard, if not a little too hard, lost a few friends and didn't have much of a social life until I was 17. I realised this was wrong and too much work/ studying actually helps you to FORGET much of what you have learnt! I teach people timetable management, self motivation, enjoyment, relaxation as well as personal skills and the subject of choice! |

| About Barry: I am a fully qualified English teacher with recent experience of Secondary and Sixth Form teaching at various schools in the region. I graduated from Oxford University with a 2:1 in English Language and Literature. I have a thorough subject knowledge which I can apply to help pupils of all ages and abilities make progress. |
Teaching Experience: I have experience teaching English and English Literature at various schools throughout Sussex over the past few years, from Key Stage 2 to A-Level. I therefore have an in depth knowledge of the demands of the National Curriculum and exam syllabi, and can quickly diagnose a learners' needs and the steps needed to take them forward and make progress in the subject. I also have experience in teaching pupils with a range of special learning needs. I have also spent time as a Language Assistant in France, so I can also offer lessons in French up to GCSE, as well as History, my second subject. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that effective learning and progress in a subject can take place only when a pupil feels engaged and enthusiastic about their learning and comfortable in their environment. I therefore always place these conditions at the centre of any learning experience. After taking an initial assessment of the students' current working level, I design a course that is individually tailored to meet their particular needs. My track record shows that pupils consistently make real progress, but importantly, they enjoy their learning |

| About Sam: I have recently completed my MA in 20th Century Literature at Goldsmiths University, and am now progressing to my PhD at Exeter. I am an experienced, fully-qualified teacher/lecturer happy to work with a wide age range from GCSE to Adults. I specialize in English (Literature and Language) at all levels from GCSE upwards, and EFL from Elementary to Advanced. I have also worked with students in preparation for IELTS. Apart from teaching, I write for a number of online publications reviewing live bands. I consider myself enthusiastic, passionate about my subject and able to form a quick rapport with nearly any student. |
Teaching Experience: Between 2004 and 2007 I was employed as a lecturer for (and then from 2005, Head of) English Language Support at Bournemouth & Poole College of F.E working with students aged 16-70 on a wide variety of courses from NVQ to Foundation Degree. Due to the variety of subjects encountered I was required to be flexible and adapt my teaching style in order to provide the highest academic quality. Alongside this I have been teaching EFL to four employees at a Software company in Dorset, designing a scheme of work and delivering evening classes. Additionally, I have worked in summer schools teaching EFL at all ages (from 8+) and during my PGCE placement worked for a year at Brockenhurst College of F.E as part of their English Dept. lecturing in GCSE, A/S and A2 English Literature and Language. |
Tutoring Approach: Due to the nature of my previous employment I am very adaptable and am able to quickly grasp what style of teaching is best suited to each individual student. I am informal and relaxed in my teaching, by which I aim to create an atmosphere where the student is comfortable and unafraid to ask questions. I am also well-read and have a strong interest in theatre, politics and social issues. |

| About Amy-Jane: I have just finished my first year at the University of Reading studying a BA (ED) with English specialism, however, having found that my true passion lies within English, particularly English language, I have decided to transfer onto an English language degree course. I am passionate about helping children discover their true potential, as well as passionate about helping children with areas within their schooling which they may struggle with. |
Teaching Experience: During my first year at university I have completed a four-week teaching placement block at a local primary school in Reading, Berkshire. I acted as a classroom assistant for a large percent of the time, helping the children (year one) with their class work. I also listened to the children read and I also took whole-class and group lessons. During my first year at university I also helped run a poetry workshop, where I worked with a small group of children (year 5) to help them devise ways in which they could present a poem, not only altering the way they spoke but also how they acted certain parts of the poem out with other members of their group. In June/ July 2006 I worked in a local primary school in Norfolk for three weeks where I worked as a classroom assistant in a year six class. My main responsibilities were to help the children with their work, as well as helping with displays and laying out materials which were needed in specific lessons. In July 2005 I volunteered in a local children's holiday club in Dereham, Norfolk. My main role was to support the group leader, as well as to help the children with specific activities. |
Tutoring Approach: I am applying to become a tutor as I am passionate about helping children achieve to the best of their ability. I feel that my passion, not only for the subjects which I would like to specialise in, but for the children, is a big asset as it would enable me to put my all into helping the children, making the job thoroughly enjoyable and inspiring. |

| About Harvey: Harvey Parkes left his birthplace of Greater Manchester at an early age, and his formative years were spent in Spain. Of Icelandic descent, Harvey remains close to his ancestral roots, and has experienced a wide variety of cultures, people and places during his lifetime. Originally a Chemistry undergraduate, Harvey's professional career has taken in activism, journalism, anti-fraud senior management, and even (despite a total inability to draw) cartooning. Family ill-health saw Harvey move back north in 2001 and, after nursing his mother, Harvey decided to change career and move into filmmaking. Harvey is a first-class honours graduate in Moving Image at the University of Central Lancashire. He is also recognised as a leading authority in cognitivism and Deleuzean philosophy within the work of the Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier. As well as his writer/director output under the name Balti and Havana, Harvey has established a large corporate client base through his work under the banner of Elegua Productions. Harvey is currently shortlisted for the UK Young Screen Entrepreneur award for 2008; the region's only industry professional to make the shortlist for this honour. |
Teaching Experience: For the past two years Harvey has taught professional broadcast directing to third-year undergraduates at the University of Salford. Harvey has previously lectured at the University of Central Lancashire, and is also an available lecturer for the University of Bolton. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tuition is one that best encourages the importance of discovery and the broadening of horizons within each student. Film, in particular, suffers for not being thought of as a cerebral industry when nothing could be further from the truth. Using my broad knowledge base both in the industry and beyond, I use an informal and conversational style in order to break complex work down into its constituent parts; revealing the building blocks that make up all of cinema, and helping students to understand and explain how and why pieces of work succeed or fail. I am not a tutor who spoonfeeds facts by rote, preferring instead to cultivate an attitude of critical thought and understanding within each student which they can go on to apply throughout their life. |

| About Victoria: I am 34 years old and married. I trained as a teacher in 1999 at the Institute of Education and have been in full time teaching employment since then. I have worked in Stevenage, Hoddesdon and Enfield. I teach all age ranges from Year 7 to Year 13, in English and Media. I did a degree in English, which included the study of Film and Latin, as well as the more traditional aspects of Literature. |
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching for 8 years in secondary schools and am Head of Media Studies in my current position. I have worked in 3 secondary schools, and have a PGCE in post-compulsory education. |
Tutoring Approach: I have tutored a number of pupils since being qualified as a teacher in 2000. I consider tutoring to be crucial in this time of educational competition. It allows individuals to access the curriculum in an environment where they feel comfortable to ask questions and request clarification. These students will inevitably gain in confidence, and become motivated in school because of this. The main aim of tutoring is to coach students to pass examinations, giving them many opportunities in life. |
