About Samantha:
I have a Biochemistry degree and a PhD in Biochemistry/Cell Biology from the University of Bristol. Through my studies and current connection with the scientific community I feel I have an up-to-date knowledge of current theories and ideas in the life sciences and that this viewpoint is advantageous for tutoring science at a variety of levels.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience of tutoring undergraduate students in Biochemistry and of supervising them during practical classes, both of which have involved assessment of written work and assignments. I also have experience of teaching school pupils during school visits to the university, and have found these experiences to be enjoyable and rewarding for both myself and the students. I am also a distance learning tutor for the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

I have a CRB check application in progress.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that tutoring should not necessarily follow the same approach as more formal school teaching, and should provide an opportunity for the student to ask questions and maybe look at topics from a slightly different angle to that taught at school. I like tutoring to be fairly informal to allow the student to relax and not feel intimidated about asking questions on topcis they do not understand. As every student is different and learns in different ways, I try to adapt tutorials to target particular areas that the student finds difficult. Learning should be a fun experience but good grades and exam results are important too so I also offer help in exam technique to help students to practice answering questions that they will encounter during examinations. I can also offer small group tutorials for two or three students if desired.

About Supriya:
Having graduated with a first class honours as a topper in the university and a PhD in Biotechnology from the University of Westminster. I am well aware of the difficulties students face and how best to overcome them as I successfully managed to do it myself. At this stage I enjoy teaching and sharing what I've learnt and understood over the years during my academic life.

Teaching Experience:

I had the opportunity of teaching primary, GCSE and A - level students privately and Bachelors and Masters students in the university. All of my students went on to get significantly higher grades and managed to gain entry into competitive courses and qualified with a first class.

Tutoring Approach:

With my 5yrs of teaching and tutoring experience, I believe that one-to-one tutoring is the best way to help students to get that extra edge and understand the subject in depth in a better way. I prefer teaching by providing relevant examples and simplifying their process of learning to the best of my abilities.

About Susmita:
I am final year PhD student in Molecular Biology at Medway School of Pharmacy. I am very up to date with my work and would like the tutees to be the same. I believe that to get the best result in any subject you have to understand the subject thorughly and I aim to do that. I am patient by nature and I am punctual as well. As I do not have a car I have to rely on public transport to get to any place. So incase I have to travel to the tutees place I will be adding an extra travel charge to the rates mentioned. If the tutee travels to my residence then ofcourse there will be no travel charge. I can also do online tutioning if the tutee has the facilities. Tution times and the no. of days can be arranged as per convinience and rates are negotiable

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored students of various levels in subjects like Maths, Biology, Elocution and Language. I have also taught some classes of Microbiology to the degree students

Tutoring Approach:

At first I will like to talk to the students and try to know where they are lacking behind or finding difficulties in a particular subject and then go from there. I give notes related to the syllabus and the course to the students and explain each portion in detail. I do give some work for the week so that the student gets to go through the subject themself and understands it better. I would like the student to try and do the work. If the student cant do it I will explain the problem again but they should make an attempt to be able to pinpoint the issue.

About Daniel:
I am a credentialed history teacher from California currently on sabbatical here in the United Kingdom. I have earned a Masters Degree in Teaching and have been teaching since 1999. Teaching and helping students is my passion, and have always found it easy to communicate ideas to others. Tutoring students one on one or in small groups, I find ideal because you can create a stronger learning partnership between the mentor and the student.
Besides teaching I like to travel and have been to parts of Asia, Europe, South America and the United States. Also, I enjoy staying fit, especially running. Last year I participated in two charity running events.

Teaching Experience:

Professional Experience:
2003-2008: History Teacher/AVID Coordinator: National City Middle School, National City, California.
Teacher of United States history, 17th century-early 19th century.
Five consecutive years of improved district and state exam scores.
Three years of managing a faculty advising team that provided support to college bound students.
Three years of managing (AVID) a college preparation program for under-represented populations of students.
Two year member of the Faculty Advising Committee, assisting to make decisions on the overall management of the school site.
Two year active member of the School Site Council, collectively determining the allocation of school funds.
Created weekly and quarterly assessments using Data Director Program that functioned in corralation with school district and state wide standards.
Collected and examined data concerning proficiency levels of each student in order to coordinate academic intervention plans that would support higher levels of achievement.
2001-2002: Supply Humanities Teacher: Soham Village College, Soham
Functioned as a permanent supply teacher.
Communicated with parents during school and at parent's evenings.
Assessed and planned academic intervention programs for various levels of learners.
Covered physical education, history and religious education.

2000-2001: Supply History Teacher: International Turkish Lycee, Cambridge
Covered a maternity leave as the Head of the History Department.
Taught GCSE and International Bachelorette levels of European history, 19th century.
Improved academic levels of proficiency measured by the results of end of year exams.
1999-2000: Initial Teacher Training: Fenway High School, Boston, Massachusetts.
Trained in classroom management and behavior.
Taught to develop lessons and curriculum.
Received support from mentor instructor on how to plan, create and deliver daily instruction to secondary school students.

Tutoring Approach:

The most important part of a tutorial is the question and its preparation. This allows the tutor to understand exactly what the issue or problem might be. Second, asking the student the appropriate questions in order to get them to use their background knowledge or use other skills they may have already aquired is another key. Third, taking good notes and summarizing steps that helped solve the problem or notes to recall or study for an exam is also very important.

About Christopher:
I'm a postgraduate student of clinical Veterinary Medicine at the University of Cambridge, with research interests in the neurological and reproductive disorders of wild animals. I am extremely patient, good natured and understanding.
I am thoroughly excited by the prospect of being able to share the knowledge and ideas in the biological sciences that I have accumulated over the past decade, and am keen to maintain a role in teaching or tutoring of some description well into my professional career.

Teaching Experience:

1. 6 months working in the United States teaching local schoolchildren (ages 7 to 18) about aquatic and marine conservation.

2. Four day study programme teaching university members about reproductive diseases and pathology in exotic mammals.

3. Numerous online tutoring programs run through both the University of Cambridge (providing application support for Veterinary Medicine and Medicine degrees), as well as online e-mentoring in Biology, Chemistry and Zoology to A' Level students.

Tutoring Approach:

A calm, measured approach, yet one which firmly corrects misconceptions, backed up by additional, multiple lines of explanation in order to bring clarity to difficult concepts. I recognise the importance of long-term goals, as well as short ones, and adjust my teaching approach and the level of delivery accordingly until a student is entirely comfortable with the key concepts.

I believe the grasping of over-riding principles to be far more important than mindlessly memorising facts, and that such facts hang better from a more solid framework. Regular multichoice, short answer and extended answer question papers form an integral part of my delivery, but the precise context of these is obviously dependent on the nature of the subject and qualification being studied.

About Nicky:
I am a 26 year old Australian who has been living in the UK for 2 years. I am a dietitian and I currently work for a pharmaceutical company. I am very interested in health and fitness and I love to travel to interesting places whenever I get the opportunity!

I am a happy, positive person and like to work hard but also take the time to enjoy life!

Teaching Experience:

In Australia I have tutored maths for 5 years. I have tutored 3 primary school children (aged 9 - 11 years) and 5 high school children (aged 12 - 16 years). All my students differed in ability and my approach to each child was unique. Whether it was helping with their homework, re-explaining new topics learnt in the classroom, working through many practice questions, or extending their knowledge by working through more difficult examples, I helped each child to become more confident in their maths abilities.

Tutoring Approach:

With so many new maths topics being introduced to children at school, often many children do not understand one topic, and then another one is being introduced. I think this can make the child feel very overwhelmed and they end up getting each new topic confused with the last!

When I tutor students, I hope to build their confidence so they feel like they can tackle any maths problem. This is particularly important for exams and tests. I try to explain new topics in simple terms and then make sure they have plenty of experience doing practice questions so they are familiar with the many ways in which the same question can be asked. I honestly believe 'practice makes perfect!'

About Emma:
I am 23 years old and graduated from the University of Cambridge last year, where I studied Natural Sciences for three years and Management Studies for one year. I am a confident and enthusiastic person with a lot of energy to give. I really enjoy tutoring, and have had good results in the past.

Teaching Experience:

At University I was involved in tutoring younger students in various Biology and Mathematics courses. During Sixth Form College, I mentored 11-14 year old students to improve their reading and writing skills.

At University I specialised in Cellular Biology, but due to the nature of the course I also have very good knowledge of Physiology, Behaviour, Biochemistry, Psychology, Chemistry, Statistics and Pure Mathematics.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a friendly and down to earth person with high standards! My approach depends entirely on the student. I take time to understand the students current level of knowledge and strive to find a method which works well for both of us.

I explain difficult topics by breaking them down into simple portions - once these are individually understood, the overall topic becomes much easier to grasp. I can help with homework and other assignments by logically guiding the student through what needs to be covered. I can help with mid-year and end of year exam preparation, where an extra bit of tuition can make all the difference.
